This past Friday, seven brave Montford Point Marines were honored posthumously with Congressional Gold Medal replicas at a moving ceremony held on base due to weather—marking the 17th annual tribute to the first African American Marines who served with courage during WWII. Despite many still unaccounted for, their legacy endures as Major James Capers Jr., Medal of Honor recipient, and Brigadier General Andre Ingram reminded us: their sacrifice broke barriers and paved the way for generations to come.
