- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: His services to you are free.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_02]: How are they free you ask?
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Because he sees what you're trying to do.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: Then he goes to the franchise, the parent company, and he says, pay me and I'll help these guys succeed doing your franchise.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty brilliant.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: That was like, wow, that's amazing.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Beat Till You See at Podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the detail you see in every recap where my co-host and life Brad and I are going to dig into the supporting combo I had with John Osterson in our last episode.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't yet, listen that interview, feel free to pause us now, go back and listen that one and then come back and join us or listen to this one and then you can decide if you're going to listen that one.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's great.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: John has a book, it's really wonderful, it's a very niche topic, it's a nerdy topic.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's when I wanted to have because I don't think entrepreneurs I'm like making your own idea is for everybody but I do think everybody deserves to have the wealth
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: agency that they want to have in this world to make what they want to make, so I'm excited about it.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I thought I'd be, I'd really like, I'd really like to the conversation.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: I was very, I mean, especially for me, because I am very entrepreneurial, but I appreciated the back and forth.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I think that it was very revealing.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Are you saying it was a great interview?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Did I do it?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying it was a great interview.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: Not only that, but I think the information that he's sharing is shocking.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: He's super smart dude and I thought I thought it was very revealing for someone who might be hoping, wishing they could own a business.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: This was very empowering because it created hope, I think.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so yeah, great.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: I will, you guys stay tuned.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: You'll hear what we're talking about in a second.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Today is September 11, 2025, and it's Patriot Day, which gives us all time to reflect on the devastating terror attacks that took 3,000 lives.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: We can memberate those who we lost and give thanks to the brave responders who put their lives in the line.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Take a moment today to consider what we stand for as a nation and how we can work together to make the world a better place for all.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, especially with 25 years to reflect on what fucking lies we're told afterwards and then how we treat the first responders and how fucking hard it was to get their medical bills paid because they're dying from cancer right now like
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like, it's like a story that keeps repeating itself where something devastating happens that is wrong and tragic, people die and then motherfuckers in office take advantage of the public's emotional state and they use it to go do some wrong shit.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go, so seriously go watch the movie dice.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I happen to be really lucky to be teaching Christian Bale's wife at the time that he
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Dick Cheney, which like, it is a, I mean, of course we want it off.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think you want it much worse for that.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: And he literally thinks Satan for the inspiration.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I remember, I remember my client, I remember my client was like, my client was just like, I can tell them not to do that.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was something like that.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so, anyways, but go watch it because it looks like a lot of people are going to be like, you know, a lot of people are going to
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not historical.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: It is pretty fucking accurate about like how rich Cheney and these bitches got after doing what they did in using, using the heartbreak.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: And what people thought with Patriot has them to go make these fucking wars and then we did a bunch of bullshit and then we ruined places and I just pisses me off because over, over lies.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Lies.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so, and also, if you don't believe in subjember 11th being what it was like, I don't know why you're here.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I, I just really, Well, it was, I mean, it was a terrorist attack.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: No question, but what we did after it, how the public was manipulated to then go to war for 20 years after, based on literal lies.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's, it's hard because like, okay, reflecting on what we consider as a nation today.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think as, and I think the people running our nation today reflect something I would never want to be a patriot of.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that's, that's the thing that really frustrates me as a person who, when you read the definition of patriot, I want to be that, that is absolutely, I mean, I consider myself a patriot, but also there's this
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: There's this frustrating association with angry, white men, usually, who don't give a shit about people and there's so much fear of others associated with it and there's this ego that's associated with it.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: that it's so it's so fragile what they're thinking is so they're they're such fragile people because they're just like they're the way that they think that they're showing strength or like protesting they're like making sure that we see the middle finger and like just like and it's like I have never driven in my entire life of driving past something we're talking about this with the protests.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: where I did it.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: We just live by protests all the time where we lived in LA.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: We were next to the federal building.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: So it was like every weekend.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Every weekend.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was like who's protesting today?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: And like there were times, I was like, oh, I wonder why it made me get curious as to like what is going on here?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: It was very fascinating.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then it was like, what the fuck?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but I never was like, here's my middle finger to you.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, just,
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, move along, move right along.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you have to make sure I see your face and you're lifted stupid truck while you flip me off.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: It makes you feel like you're like, yeah, I did it to them.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: I did it like we were in Idaho and there was a big ass sign in this guy's house.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was walking by the lake and it was like, make liberals cry again.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, oh, you think I'm crying?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pissed off.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: like the tears of the tears are of what we are losing.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, but like no, I'm pissed off.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: James Baldwin, I want to make sure everyone here's a quote because I think it's really beautiful and I think this is what being a patriot is.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love America more than any other country in the world and exactly for this reason.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that, like, this country has so many shortcomings.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: And nothing, no country is perfect.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's listen to Sophia Bush on a podcast recently.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, like, I'm not going to move because, like, I love this place.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to fight for her.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: And so, like, if you moved and whatever, like, I have no judgments for that.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: But if you're here, like,
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: you have to fight because we're losing rights.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're losing rights, and it really pisses me off because in the time of my mother being an adult and married woman, she could not get a credit card until the 80s.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening to this, and you're just like, Lala, I just want to hear about how to be a ties to you.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies, you are going to lose your ability to have your own bank account.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to lose your ability to have your own vote.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: And if you think it's not going to happen, because, oh, it's not going to happen.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's they want it to happen and the right people are in power.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm tired of being told that project 25 is bullshit.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: It is happening right now.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there are more than 50% of the way through completing project 25.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: In the time we're creating this seven months.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, seven months.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: And if you go through and you actually read the things that are in that platform,
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: they do want to make single family voting, which is literally taking away the rights of women because they would consider the man the head of the household.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: And if you think, oh, I'm not married.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, your brother, get to vote for you.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, brother, your uncle get to vote for you.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like they will find a man in when this type of life existed, they would find someone in the government to become your vote.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get, there's no getting out of this.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get one.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: And the people in power are tweeting about that stuff.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: literally right now like they're they're putting it out there they're trying to normalize the idea so that when they go and try to do it it doesn't seem like it's as big of a deal as it actually fucking is so you know I think patriotism is bright now babe it is fine a protest I know you're busy I know you're a fuck ton going on we are too fine one go for an hour go yell go meet friends go meet people are different than you yep
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's the protest people, some people are fighting for their their gay marriages just to still exist some people are fighting for their to be not be war some people are fighting for God some people are fighting to like for the abstinence I don't care what gets you out there, but like you think that this that what they're going to do is not going to affect your life it is.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: Go go check out individual indivisible.org for a local, you know, event or how you can get involved near you.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we're going to move on and we're going to shoot people like this.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's so important, y'all, and it's like this, I know that we, this isn't a podcast about politics, but it is.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: But also, but also, until you see it is a podcast, it is about like politics and it is a part of every single element of our life.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: Even if you have the perfect life going on quote,
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: it's because of politics that you are able to live the way that you live and what's happening right now is such vast dramatic change in our countries like historically there's so much change happening so quickly there that when we wake up you know in even six months from now
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: it's going to be like they're we are at the brink of things.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how we're going to make it to the midterms.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's my fear.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's my fear and I'll right now.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I will just say even if you're like, Leslie, I just want to homestead.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be like,
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: mean think that everybody wants to do that and that that should be the choice for everybody.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that like that is why we have to get involved.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: And if you are a woman, you are political.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: Your existence in any room is political.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Has been.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And if you really want to get fired up, go read the book she caused to write it.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Go look at history.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like fucking soccer tease is teacher was a woman.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Did you know that?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: There isn't you don't know that is because politics.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't want you to know that there was leaders in this world.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Politics and religion.
- 10:29[UNKNOWN]: Fuck that.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then when we get home while we home for a couple weeks and we go to see my best friends and we come visit and then we're going to go to Chicago land for Pilis on tour of bounce body.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing the Joe's jams there.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's some bird ridge if there's any spots left.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: You should snag one because it's super super fun.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: And you have a huge party coming with all of our agency.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Elevate OPC members.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Then we're going to be in Cambodia.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's also an October.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can still join like you can join last minute.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what flight planes will sell a seat.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: As long as there is one, so you can get the fuck out of town and retreat a little bit and be in a different world and get some empathy for what it's like to live in different places.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and experience a different culture.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: See that.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: Not everybody.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: If you are worried, sorry, could you off?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you're worried about being an American in a different country.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: Let me tell you, they see what's happening right now.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: And they are in Cambodia.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: They are sad for us.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: They are scared for us.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: They know that they know where are we're headed and they are sad for us.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I was just going to say, with our experience recently about trying to cross borders and getting stuck and turned around and not being able to, it wasn't the attendees of the events that we were not able to attend who are angry with us.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: It was the border guard you was, you know, unfortunately, misinformed, misinformed and, you know, an angry and he was angry because the border guards of our country were turning away people for no reason.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: So he could just, that's the only power he had was the turn away, you know, Americans for no reason and we just kind of got caught up in that.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of, there is a lot of frustration, but it's not from the people.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: right in this country.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like, you know, so so I would say, you know, yeah, it did feel a little bit stressful to, you know, as we were approaching, once we got there started talking to them, it became clear that that there was just silly reasons being turned away, but, but even in that like the
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the guy wasn't like he wasn't an asshole about it.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I was really frustrating.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: If you're worried about something like that, when you come to a place like Cambodia, you apply for your visa ahead of time.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: You will know before you arrive, if they're going to turn your around because you'll have the right paperwork.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: And also, we're all going as tourists, the Canadian thing that we were going into work.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: That was, we'll have to do a whole episode on it
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: That being said, you go from.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: But as a tourist, they want a tourist.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's literally how their country survives.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's how, well, it's how the city that we're going to, that's how the economy there survives, because from tourism.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and they are very aware of that.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: They want us there.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're so welcoming.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're so kind.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: And you can see what it's like to be living in a different part of this world.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's so important.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest reasons why people in the US are so fucking scared of people of a different color Because they've never, they've never gone and seen how they live.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, go get worldly You will have more empathy Process retreats.com
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: After we leave Cambodia we're going to be in Singapore.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to teach at a beautiful studio there and then we're going to see the botanical gardens and then we're home.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're home for a whole month in November.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, Brad.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going camping anywhere at our home for the whole month.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: But my parents are coming.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go camping.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're that is not why they're coming to visit us.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: Help me help you with the brew for something.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: And then October, we're going to be on our winter tour.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to make sure you hear about that first, go to opc.me slash events, opc.me slash events because our people on our wait list will get the access to the tickets first and the winter tour does have cities that sell out in 24 hours.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we have to get to our interview, but we do have an audience question, so Brad.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, DMK asks on Instagram, hey, Leslie, my footwork question is this.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: What Q or Qs do you like to use during footwork?
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, if footwork students, very confused, they made a mistake.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: What do you do like to use?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: If during footwork students are using it like a leg press?
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, sorry, okay.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thank you.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I just read that wrong.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's all good.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: First off, we're clearly talking about.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: But work on the reformer.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Team K, this is, I hate queues.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Well, hold on.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Let's explain what the problem is.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: What is the problem with the problem with the problem with the problem that she's probably seeing is they're they're pushing out and in like it's a leg press machine like it's like a leg machine Okay, so like only a leg exercise versus a full body exercise right and then the other thing is that they're not using all the muscles of their legs because they're just like shoving their knees straight
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they're probably pausing at the top, which is what you do in a late press machine and then kind of hopefully on a late press and machine you're resisting, but a lot of people just kind of like close the the weights or clothes that kind of flowed in or ride the springs in.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the deal, D.M.K.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: My teacher, J. Grimes, and the teachers I studied with him talked a lot about how Joe didn't really correct during footwork.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: You use footwork to tell you what's kind of going on in the person's body.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: I also happen to like three or four springs on for a footwork, so some people think that like heavy springs means they're going to use it like a leg press machine.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: But ideally you want those heavy springs to warm the body up.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Two lightest springs can actually affect someone's lower back if they have a titular back or they're knocking the the the connection in the warmup for what's to come.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I do
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: what you can do for those people who want to make it a like press machine, take all the springs off, go down to one light spring and see what happens.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to fly off.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, yeah, you actually have to push into the football the whole time, even as you come in.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I love a one spring because it kind of helps teach the actual movement.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then load the springs up.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you take my fast workshop, I think you can get it on our OPC website.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: You'll see how I explain how to use, especially with arches and heels to do that.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I would say is,
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Ask them if they are opening the front of the hips or opening the back of the knees.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: What is their intention?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: Meaning when you focus on opening the knee joint, you're a leg press machine.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: When you focus on opening the front of the hips, you're making this move from your center.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: I am looking, I actually don't care people's knees go straight.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at can they move their thigh away from their center and open the front of their hips.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: and then pull that back in.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm kind of looking at that, but if they don't do those things, the footwork is just really telling me how they're actually moving, and I have to pick other exercises to assist.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: So other ways to help them, understand that's not like press machine would be willing like springs.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Single legs brings, both legs brings footwork on the towers going to be really helpful because that's a whole different plane.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so like find different exercises that get your point across, ask them what they're feeling, and then take them back to the reformer and say find that feeling here.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: Great, love it.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's the best cue you could do.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: Great question.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: If you have a question, just text us through an 095, 5534, 310905, 5534, or you can actually send your question in through be it pod.com slash questions, be it pod.com slash questions.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's where you can also send your wins and two.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: I want your wins people.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: We want your wins.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: Let's do it.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: Stick around.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: We're actually going to talk about John Austinson next.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: Finally.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's talk about John Austinson, an expert in franchising and based out of Atlanta, Georgia, John Austinson left his W2 job eight years ago after years in the corporate world to become president of self-genie, a large franchise system where he says he fell in love with the franchise model.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: which he explained amazingly and in detail during the interview.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if you didn't get a chance to listen to that, I would very much encourage you to go listen to it as super informative.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: He is John is now the founder of Fran Bridge Consulting and author of the best selling book, non-food franchising, which, Leslie, I know you read.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: seen it on our table out there, John helps clients find suitable franchise opportunities from over 600 different brands outside of the fast food industry.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: His mission is to guide individuals who want to own a business, but may feel risk adverse or lack a quote unquote genius idea connecting with them with proven scalable franchise model.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the crazy thing.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is where I was like, oh my god, this guy's brilliant.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: His services to you are free.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: How are they for you ask?
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: Because he sees what you're trying to do.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: Then he goes to the franchise, the parent company, and he says, pay me, and I'll help these guys succeed doing your franchise.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty brilliant.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, wow, that's amazing.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I love it so much because it's like it's completely risk a version for you like and the reason I thought this was I really wanted to begin with this guy because I don't even understand how you get into a franchise and well, it makes me want to get into franchises.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: I know, and we just met someone who's like, all he does is all these different franchises, and so I just like it because like, first of all, we talked a lot about how you could like work and have a franchise like it's like, there's like there's all these different ways you can do it.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, he has a lot of franchise doors.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: The people on the franchise still might have a day job.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because are they a franchisee?
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, sorry, franchise E, the franchise or is the parent company, the franchise E is the person who's like purchase one of the locations, whatever.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: So the franchise E, as if you could still be working your normal life and have a franchise, obviously then it's about the team that you put in place to make sure that they can run it without you having to be there.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: But but this guy was talking about having franchise is all over the country.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so he's clearly not in them operating them.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, and so you can be an owner operator.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: He has his book has got a lot of this stuff in it.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to dig in even more and then do that with him.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: But like, here's what I have.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, we're not just talking about Pilates franchise.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: No, he is, but in words, I'm like, there's so many.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's some out there and also like, I personally,
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: I personally don't want to grab someone else's police franchises because the way I like to teach, I'd probably want to make my own.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe I want to get one that's in the like, maybe that's a god of red lights on a space or something that goes along with what I do that's like in the thing that I am interested in in life.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's like,
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: or salt path, float float floating floating yeah by the way there is a float place I'm sure as a franchise and Nashville that I'm like how the fuck do we get it out here in our neighborhood because I'm tired of driving 30 minutes to go fucking float pissed off by the time I get back anyways we just need I don't know a few thousands of dollars and then we can do it babe
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he is about our next adventure.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's so crazy.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: As you said, that like a lot of people will start a franchise with maybe, you know, 50 to $100,000 down.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: And the rest of it is actually from an SBA loan because the SBA in the banks believe in the franchise model so much that they are willing to effectively front.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: the rest of the startup capital.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, wow, I never thought about that.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's amazing.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: Because and like, you know, $50,000 just still a shit load of money.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: I understand that.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: But it also isn't a million dollars, right?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: And also like anyone who wants to start to make
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Legitimate money you have to stop thinking if $50,000 a lot of money to start thinking it's possible that you can get it Yeah, that there's a way because I remember thinking that oh my god so much money and let me tell you the long as you think 50,000 is so much money You're gonna have it's gonna feel so far away when you start to think like of course I said to find $50,000 you would go listen to that podcast.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have with the guy with the question marks.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: I forget his name
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Hey guys, go and find it, but let's just talk about things I love to use that.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let me get into my notes.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: He said you're in business for yourself, but not by yourself.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I love this because so many of the people I meet, they're like, so lucky that you and Brad, like, are married and like you work together in our biggest response is like, not everyone should do what we do.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to be in business,
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: For yourself, but not by yourself, instead of working with your partner, why don't you get a partner and it can be a franchise.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think it's really cool.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: And a different franchise or is for different support, and that's one of the conversations that you could have with a person like John.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: where you might be like, hey, I am innately a marketer, but I'm terrible at operations, right?
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: Then he might say, okay, well, this franchise, whatever they can help or conversely, I hate marketing, I'm really, that's not my jam.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: I need a franchise that will create the content for me that I can just use to put out there.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: So they're different like corporate offices will do different things for the business support, the franchisee, but as a as a layman, how am I supposed to know?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: But John gets to see hundreds of franchises.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's so cool.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: If you know your strengths, then you can talk to John and figure out like what are the different franchises that I'm interested in, either like in an area I want to be in.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then, okay, of those, which one matches my strengths and my weaknesses because you don't want to have something that's like Great at marketing and you're great at marketing, but like has the systems are not there for the operations like things like that.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: But also the franchise, or does a lot for you and remember it's a proven business model.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: So like it's already figured like it's already thrown ideas at the wall figured out what works and then you just get to rent and repeat that and I really
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I really like that for people who want to create their own schedule, create their own impact, be part of the community, but our risk adverse, you know, and by the way, I get it.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: We just, I'm risk adverse too.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: But I, in a mentioned way.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: But it's like, I wouldn't want to go just to go throw money away and hope that something works.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Imagine being able to follow a systematic approach where they figured out all the kinks in the business.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: The business, the lesson I run that we've created has taken us a lot longer to get to where we are today.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's literally 10 years.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: Now, 10 years of running this business.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 10 years of trying to figure things out, making mistakes, doing all the stuff.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: When with a franchise model,
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: There are so many less mistakes to make because hypothetically, they've already made the mistakes for you and figured it out and put together the playbook that you can simply follow the plan, the process, right?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I really love the one he talks about, business ownership is really hard.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: it takes a lot of work.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, that's that's very true too.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: And he said if it's easy, everyone would be a business owner and what he what so so of all the pros that we've been talking about with a franchise model, it still does take a lot of work.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: And it it takes focus.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: And the biggest thing he mentioned was the people who fail don't follow the plan.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: And John goes
- 25:27[SPEAKER_02]: corporate office and goes, yeah, what happened here?
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on?
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: And the franchise or said, you know, let's say to John, well, look, we did everything we could to support this person, but they didn't listen.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: Right, they just didn't fucking listen, you know?
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: And that doesn't mean that like there won't still be challenges because every single location is different.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Every market is different, every opportunity.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: And what I mean that I mean different franchise model is different.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it's still will take work, but you don't have to do it alone, you know, and that that's amazing, but he, you know, so anyway, he doesn't sugarcoat Frances, but I mean, but he said it's a lot easier and a lot more predicted his book actually like talks about it like like kind of like if it's for you, you know, and this is where like.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: it for us to follow the rules right with you have to know okay we're gonna do this thing with this company we're gonna follow their rules which means I'm gonna hire someone to go follow their rules because I am unemployable so I will probably like about but you have to know that about yourself you know yeah such a cool dude he also was like because I told I have an idea yes I said I have an idea that I might want to like happen and make and
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: Amazing.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I just love how generous people can be.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll stick around.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about how generous John is with his be it action items in just a minute.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: So finally, let's talk about those be it action items.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: What bold, executable intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your combo with John Austinson?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: He said he really encourages people who are interested in franchising or the concept of franchising just simply explore that there's no downside.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: how it works, what it is, is it even plausible for me?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: Is this something that I could do while still doing my life?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: He said it's super free to work with them, which we already talked about at the very beginning of this combo here.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: Brand Bridge Consulting, his company helps clients navigate.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: and find top available opportunities among over 600 different non food franchise brands and we love that I don't not want to do with food well he's he's not he's not a post to food but it also apparently just adds a whole lot more variables in there are you so we're going to coffee shop and it was small business owned and i'm going to tell you right now it is
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: But that's different than a franchise because a franchise is a system so I know that all of them son might make this is complicated because they're making shit a food food there's like the things you have to do to prevent rats right there's just a like variables when it goes to food there's also a lot of more licensing and a lot more
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: like red tape with white tape, like local, state government stuff.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so anyway, he explained that what I already mentioned is that how does he get paid?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: He gets paid by the franchise business, the corporate, right?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: You're not necessarily paying him directly.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I mean, it seems like an absolute win-win.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: This is worth having the conversation.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's, there's no harm in it.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what about you?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I love that he said activity breeds activity.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's like a body emotion, it stays emotion.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yesterday, we just got into town, you know, at midnight on Friday night.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: I guess at Saturday morning, anyways, our friend Mai, she saw me at the gym and she was like, you're like the most consistent creature.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, I don't, if I was to not be consistent, like,
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if I use travels, excuse how it never be consistent.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: So activity, breathe activity, a body motion, say it's a motion.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: Explain it's the idea he saw play out in his career and life.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: That whenever he gets off the sidelines, he starts moving to option A or B. That's that, then that's when option C comes out of left field.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's good things happen when you're in motion.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so true, like,
- 29:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's so true.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, even when we got sideline with the fucking Canada thing, we pivoted and kept going and like because we did that other things happened that the dominoes kept going and like these other opportunities came around and I think like Yeah, we met a whole studio and everyone met.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: We totally did could be a pop-up someday, but anyway, like, you know, you be surprised what happens to often we get we get sideline and we're like, I'm going to sit over here.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: as you hear the podcast, it says action is the antidote to fear.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: So, anyways, I'm Lessologan.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm Brad Crowell.
