Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Your ass stinks.
- 0:12Yeah, well, I'm gonna watch your least Favorite Scary Movie, The
- 0:15podcast where we talk about the good, about the ugly, any
- 0:18absurd, and all of our favorite. And least favorite scary movies?
- 0:21Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:23base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name's Travis. My name's Jesse.
- 0:27And welcome everybody. It's pride.
- 0:29Month, Yeah, another theme month coming right at you folks we are
- 0:34covering. Movies.
- 0:35The movies. Yes, movies that and in some
- 0:38way, shape or form have a connection to like LGBTQ
- 0:42interest, cast, crew members, themes, subtext, things like
- 0:46that. We've done this for the past few
- 0:48years, and part of what we do for Pride Month is that all of
- 0:51our profits from the Patreon will be donated to The Trevor
- 0:55Project at the end of the month. The Trevor Project is a suicide
- 0:58hotline for LGBTQ youth is a really, really great
- 1:02organization. So take a look at that if you
- 1:06want to be a little bit more informed about the services they
- 1:09offer. And if you want to become a
- 1:11patron, even if it's just for this month, that money will go
- 1:15to The Trevor Project at the end of the month.
- 1:17And you will also be able to listen to like all of our back
- 1:20catalog of bonus episodes. Yeah, you can do that.
- 1:22Or you can also just any like episode or Patreon purchase you
- 1:27make throughout June. All of that goes towards that
- 1:29too. Anything earned throughout June
- 1:31goes towards this. Show yeah, yeah, all of it will
- 1:35go to that it's a. Donation for a good cause and
- 1:38it's you get content. Yeah, the link to our Patreon is
- 1:42at the very bottom of our show notes on whatever platform
- 1:44you're listening on. It should be a link that just
- 1:46takes you right to it. If for some reason it's not
- 1:47working, you can go to the link tree in our bio on any of our
- 1:50social media and it will take you to our Patreon as well.
- 1:53Yeah, so it's but we have a good time.
- 1:56If you're a budget here, you get like extra perks like stickers
- 2:00and voting rights. And yeah, it's a lot of fun.
- 2:04Stickers, episodes, Voting, voting rights.
- 2:08It's paid to play in this. What do we call this?
- 2:13I don't know, I made a fascism joke last night that you said
- 2:15was not well received, so I'm not going.
- 2:17To I said it was dangerous. It's a dangerous line of
- 2:21thinking, OK. Anti fascist for the record,
- 2:24which is why I thought the joke would be extra absurd.
- 2:27And I was like, we're in public. You can't say stuff like that
- 2:29around people that don't know you.
- 2:30That's true. Which is probably also true for
- 2:31the podcast. The couple at the table next
- 2:33week got real quiet, yeah. Fascists.
- 2:39Yeah. This is for the record.
- 2:40Like, I think that we were very clear that we were saying that.
- 2:42We were also loudly debating our poll for last week's movie,
- 2:47which was it's a It was a weird conversation over here if you're
- 2:51in a restaurant next to us, but it's.
- 2:52A really quiet restaurant too, because we were there before the
- 2:54restaurant opened because we didn't realize what time it was.
- 2:56So there's just they're problems all.
- 2:58Around, yeah, So the poll, we talked about Texas Chainsaw
- 3:02Massacre, The Next Generation last week, and as many of you
- 3:06know, that was one of Matthew Mcconaughey's very first,
- 3:09actually, I think it was his very first film role.
- 3:12So are you talking about release or?
- 3:15It is, I think it was introducing.
- 3:17Maybe not. I could be entirely wrong I
- 3:19thought, but I could be incorrect.
- 3:22Either way, he's in that movie and we were like, hey, what if
- 3:24we put Vilmer in another one of them?
- 3:27Like Matthew Mcconaughey's movies, swap the rolls.
- 3:29So we have 4 movies that we could potentially put Vilmer in
- 3:33and you all did the voting for it.
- 3:36So here we are. What were our options?
- 3:39How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Dazed and Confused, True
- 3:42Detective and Tropic Thunder. To be clear, we understand True
- 3:46Detective is a show, not a movie.
- 3:48Well, I put in the poll. Movie slash show.
- 3:50OK, OK. So.
- 3:52We're correct. OK.
- 3:53I just, you said film right now, so that's why I wanted to be
- 3:56clear. So here are the results. 22%
- 4:00would put Vilmer in How to lose a guy in 10 days.
- 4:03I would watch that. Absolutely. 22% put him in days.
- 4:07I'm confused. I'll have to watch that. 11%
- 4:11True Detective. OK. 44% Tropic Thunder.
- 4:16Now here's the thing, and I know last night I said my boat was
- 4:19how to lose a guy in 10 days, but I've been meditating on it
- 4:22and Can you imagine Filmer flying through the jungle?
- 4:26I got your TiVo. Tugger, I got your TiVo.
- 4:30Actually, I thought about this real long and hard,
- 4:33unnecessarily so. And I was like, Filmer would
- 4:36thrive and Tropic Thunder. He.
- 4:38Would he would go out there and like he the end of the movie of
- 4:42Tropic Thunder, Matthew McConaughey is out there in the
- 4:44jungle. With the.
- 4:45Fucking like drug cartel, army, whatever.
- 4:48He could fucking hold his own out there.
- 4:50Yeah, Vilmer would like. He's needed, in fact.
- 4:54And Tropic Thunder. Ben Stiller needs him.
- 4:56Yeah, Yeah. So that's I'm glad that that one
- 4:59won, because I feel like that's the correct answer.
- 5:02You almost didn't even want to put that as one of the options.
- 5:04I know, and I'm happy to be proved wrong, honestly, in this
- 5:08situation because that's one of my favorite Matthew McConaughey
- 5:11rolls right there. All right, so that was it for
- 5:14the poll. Did you announce anything?
- 5:17Did we skip that? I didn't announce anything, but
- 5:21I am going to go ahead and talk about one of the, like, LGBTQ
- 5:26topics because this is also something that I do a little bit
- 5:30of each year. Yeah.
- 5:31And today we're going to talk about fucking pronouns because
- 5:35pronouns, it's just words. It's easy.
- 5:37Somebody says, I use this pronoun and you use that
- 5:40pronoun. It's that simple.
- 5:42When you have the option to put it in, you're like, like social
- 5:46media BIOS, e-mail signatures, things like that.
- 5:50As a SIS person, what it does is it helps normalize it for trans
- 5:54people. And I'm also going to say to the
- 5:56people that get really offended about that, step away from your
- 6:01transphobia and bigotry for a second and think about it for
- 6:04people like, say, me, who have a name that on paper, Jesse.
- 6:10Oh wow, could go either way, right?
- 6:14That also just kind of helps clear up some confusion so I
- 6:18don't get an e-mail that says good afternoon Sir, which should
- 6:22happen before I put my pronouns and my e-mail signatures.
- 6:26It's just a thing that you can do to kind of be an ally and
- 6:29help normalize something like that.
- 6:31And it also does just like it can make your life easier as a
- 6:33sys person as well. But what it really does is it
- 6:36helps our like our trans friends and our non binary friends be
- 6:41able to do that safely without feeling like they're necessarily
- 6:44like outing themselves 100%, if that makes sense.
- 6:49Also, like I want to talk about they them for a singular person
- 6:54and I feel like I have a little bit of ground to talk on about
- 6:56this because my mom is an English major and she had me
- 6:59while she was in college and I went to classes with her.
- 7:01So I feel like I know a little bit about what I'm talking
- 7:02about. I remember one time as a small
- 7:05child, we were talking about a person.
- 7:06I don't know if the person was a man or a woman.
- 7:08My mom said I don't know if that person's a man or a woman
- 7:10either. It was like somebody on the
- 7:11phone or something and we were trying to figure out how to talk
- 7:13about this phone conversation. We were overhearing and she
- 7:16referred to the person as they. She was like, I don't know if
- 7:18that's a man or a woman is perfectly acceptable in the
- 7:20situation to use they in an unknown setting.
- 7:26It's grammatically acceptable. So if a non binary person also
- 7:29chooses also uses excuse me, the pronouns they them.
- 7:34It is so grammatically viable like.
- 7:38I don't like that argument that people make either.
- 7:41Like, it just, it's really fucking simple to just use the
- 7:44words that people ask you to use.
- 7:46Yeah, it's respect. It's just being a decent human
- 7:50being. So you can do it.
- 7:52Yeah. Be respectful people.
- 7:53That's the moral of the story. Just respect people's pronouns.
- 7:56Respect people as people. That's all we're asking.
- 7:58And I'm not telling you you have to put pronouns in your bio.
- 8:01Obviously we don't have that in our bio because it's like both
- 8:04of us, so it but neither of us uses they pronouns is the thing
- 8:10like so that adds to confusion. So we could do he, his, she,
- 8:13her, but then that's also like it's just confusing.
- 8:16So that's why we don't have it in like.
- 8:17Our podcast, we're a podcast. We're not a person.
- 8:20Yeah, that's the answer to that. Look, we get.
- 8:24So be kind, be kind of people, be good people.
- 8:27Yeah, just be a decent human being, yeah.
- 8:29Be a bro, be a sis, be a pal. And this plays very much into
- 8:34today's movie, Yes, returned to sleep away camp, which is what
- 8:37we're going to be talking about on the podcast today.
- 8:40So I am ready for that. Are you ready for that?
- 8:44Jesse just raised her mug up. So that is a yes.
- 8:47I'm ready. Sorry.
- 8:48I had a mouthful of coffee and you asked me a question.
- 8:50It was like being at the dentist's office.
- 8:52I was panicking. How do I react to the situation?
- 8:56All right, so return to Sleep Away Camp.
- 8:58By the way, yes we have all other three Sleep Away Camp
- 9:01movies covered, so this is the final one.
- 9:03This is the final one. Yes, yes, we're closing out this
- 9:06chapter on the podcast. It's So This movie released
- 9:12November 4th, 2008 on DVD. We did not get a theatrical
- 9:18release for this movie. If you want to watch it, you got
- 9:21to pray to God that you find a DVD somewhere because that's
- 9:24really the only way you're going to be able to watch this thing.
- 9:27Had somebody ask how we watched it.
- 9:29I'll tell you how we watched it. I went online and I bought a
- 9:32DVD. On my website, it was Etsy,
- 9:36right? It was on Etsy, Yes.
- 9:37Yeah. So, and this is a was it a
- 9:40birthday gift for me? You got me this DVD in good
- 9:42faith. Yeah.
- 9:43You ordered it from what looked like a verified seller on Etsy
- 9:47and it was delivered to you without a case.
- 9:50And you were like, that's fine, I'll go get a cheap Blu-ray and
- 9:53I will make a cover for it. And that cover's very special to
- 9:56me and I love it. But also when we looked at the
- 10:00DVD, the label for it, you know how normally there's artwork on
- 10:03a Blu-ray or DVD or whatever, you know, the front of it, that
- 10:07it was clearly a printed, a home printed label.
- 10:10Yeah. And so Travis got tricked
- 10:14basically not not through any fault of his own.
- 10:18He thought he was going through all the all the channels to get
- 10:22me a legit copy of Return to Sleepway Camp.
- 10:24But that's how we came to own this movie.
- 10:26Yeah, I'll, I'll post pictures of the thing, the cover and all
- 10:33that we got in the picture of the disc.
- 10:35Just so you know, I'm not happy with how the cover looks today,
- 10:39but it, you know, it's just a, it's that little piece of art
- 10:43that reminds you where you were and how you've progressed so.
- 10:47No, it's a little piece of art that makes me think that at
- 10:49least at one time, you loved me enough to do it.
- 10:52I will get into information on legal way to get that DVD, which
- 10:58I think is still like a way to get it, but we'll get into that
- 11:03here in a little bit when I get into some information.
- 11:05Written by Robert Hiltzik. Directed by Robert Hiltzik,
- 11:08Music by Rodney Wittenberg. Special effects makeup by Ed
- 11:11French and Brian Spears. Ed French.
- 11:14That name sounds familiar. That's the dude that did blood
- 11:18rage and shit, I can't remember which.
- 11:20Movie. It was another one we just
- 11:21talked about recently, isn't it? Yeah, I think it was dead dudes
- 11:24in the house. That sounds probably.
- 11:26About right. It's another bad good movie.
- 11:28Good, bad movie. Something like that.
- 11:30Speaking of dead dudes in the house, we also watched No Hard
- 11:33Feelings and the dad of the Gen. Z party.
- 11:38That super aggro dude yeah, from that movie yeah and it's one of
- 11:42those ones where like, yeah, I see it yeah, so it's
- 11:45intimidating I. Can't Unsee it.
- 11:47Yeah, what's intimidating in that movie?
- 11:48Cuz he you know. Cuz he doesn't have weaponry.
- 11:51He doesn't have the bandana, I think.
- 11:53That's a big part of it. The bandana is where his power
- 11:55is and. I think so.
- 11:56That's where it lies. Starring Michael Gibney as
- 12:00Allen, Vincent Pastor as Frank, Paul D'Angelo, returning as
- 12:04Ronnie, Isaac Hayes as Charlie and Felissa Rose returning as
- 12:09Angela Baker and spoiler Sheriff Jerry.
- 12:13Yeah, all right. Time for our favorite game on
- 12:15the show, Budget or bug Ted? Oh, I'm gonna go hard bug, Ted.
- 12:21OK, it's a pretty decent bug Ted.
- 12:24It is bug Ted. It's $4,000,000 to make this.
- 12:28You know what? Good for them.
- 12:30Yeah, I'm actually shocked. Yeah.
- 12:32Oh, we're about to say where I went.
- 12:33Yeah. Well, I'll tell you, I think I
- 12:36have an answer to that. So I don't have opening box
- 12:39office or worldwide gross because this went straight to
- 12:41DVD. Yeah, but the IMDb is 4.1.
- 12:44Honestly, OK. You think that's OK?
- 12:474.1. Yeah, that's higher than what
- 12:50I'd expected it to be. OK I guess that's fair.
- 12:52So I have 3 movies from 2008. I have AI feel very fitting
- 12:57theme for these 3 movies. It's teenagers are mean.
- 13:01I I endorse that theme. I know that you're a big
- 13:05supporter of that one right there.
- 13:06I think a lot of people would agree.
- 13:08Teenagers are scary. So let's start off with some of
- 13:11the scariest teenagers that we've ever seen.
- 13:14Eden Lake, the first movie? No.
- 13:17Yeah, that's that's a traumatizing movie.
- 13:19I think Jesse refuses to ever watch that one again.
- 13:23Yeah, I won't watch it again. And my mom, who's a listener of
- 13:25the show, has yet to listen to that episode because she only
- 13:27listens to the episodes of movies she's seen.
- 13:30And she's scared to watch the movie by herself.
- 13:32Because of how I always react when I talk about it is.
- 13:35This generational trauma she passed down, the fear of
- 13:38teenagers on to you. I don't know, I feel like I got
- 13:43my fear of teenagers from a very healthy place.
- 13:45From a very healthy place. Yeah, teenagers are scary.
- 13:49I've experienced that. That doesn't sound healthy to
- 13:52experience bullying from teenagers, but OK.
- 13:55All right, evenly, it came out September 12th, 2008.
- 13:59Don't have budget, but it grossed $4 million.
- 14:01So as much as this movie we're talking about cost OK IMDb 6.7
- 14:07OK movie #2 prom night prom. Night.
- 14:12Yeah, obviously this is the remake.
- 14:13Mm Hmm. Yeah, and of course, bullying
- 14:16teenagers and prom competition and you know, you know the
- 14:21drill. It's a bunch of it's teenagers
- 14:22killing each other. That's the ultimate mean
- 14:24teenager. So that Released April 11th,
- 14:262008. Budget of 20 million.
- 14:30Worldwide Gross 57 million. IMDb 4 out of 10.
- 14:36I don't. I know we've watched that at
- 14:38least once together, but I don't remember anything about it.
- 14:40Yeah, I don't remember much either actually that I think
- 14:46I've only seen that that one time.
- 14:47That'd be about it. Yeah.
- 14:49Which if you stick around on the podcast for a couple more years,
- 14:52you might hear us talk about that one.
- 14:54OK, there eventually. Final movie, let the right one
- 14:57in. That's one that I haven't seen.
- 14:59I don't think you've seen either.
- 15:01No. Is that the one that's like the
- 15:03vampire movie and she like drowns his bullies?
- 15:06Yeah, it's about a kid. I think I I read like a
- 15:09synopsis. A 12 year old kid is being
- 15:11bullied by a bunch of kids and then this vampire girl comes in
- 15:16to step in and take care of his bully problem.
- 15:19OK, so that released December 12th, 2008 $4 million budget, so
- 15:25very comparable $11 million gross 7.8 IMDb.
- 15:30Wow. Yeah, I've heard nothing but
- 15:32great things about. That movie, I've heard it's a
- 15:34really good movie. Yeah, we should watch it
- 15:37sometime. Maybe if we're feeling like
- 15:39dealing with asshole teenagers again.
- 15:41That's rare that I'm ever in the mood for that.
- 15:43But you know, I'm. I'll never say never.
- 15:46All right? I've got 1 tagline.
- 15:47Only one. Kids can be so mean and it's so
- 15:52fitting. It's so.
- 15:53True, actually. That's it for that.
- 15:55I've got a surprising amount of information for this movie.
- 15:58Really, I didn't expect to be able to find anything.
- 16:00Yeah, I thought you would struggle.
- 16:02I thought I would too, but no, I've got some stuff here.
- 16:05So OK, let's start off with this.
- 16:07So technically this is the fifth film in Sleep Away Camp
- 16:12franchise. I don't know how many of you are
- 16:15aware of like the Sleep Away Camp for their release.
- 16:18Are you aware of it? Vaguely.
- 16:21OK so there was a movie in 1993. You can put movie in quotation
- 16:26marks because I don't know if this really counts as one, but
- 16:30it is called Sleep Away Camp for the Survivor.
- 16:33It is a movie that has 20 minutes of original footage and
- 16:38the rest of it is composed of footage from the previous 3
- 16:42movies. Awesome.
- 16:43Yeah, so if you thought Silent Night Deadly Night 2 was bad, I
- 16:47think this is actually pushing it or actually around the same,
- 16:50maybe about the same I'm. Curious if they like mixed all
- 16:54three of the first ones together since we had a casting change
- 16:56for Angela. Well, I've seen parts of it and
- 16:59yeah, they did because I got you can find parts of it like just
- 17:03like snippets, like clips of it. It's basically like a person on
- 17:06the camp and there's like a voice over telling like there's
- 17:09a thing that happened over there and then it'll like flashback to
- 17:12the scene of like the thing that happened over there.
- 17:15That sounds like we were just talking about this cuz there was
- 17:19like a clip episode of Friends on but it's very much like the
- 17:23clips episode. I've also heard since we talked
- 17:28about Sally Night, Deadly Night 2 that we made, I think it was
- 17:32Joe, he said he was sad because we missed so much from the first
- 17:35movie. There's a lot apparently that
- 17:38goes on in the first movie that we're not aware of, so that's
- 17:40probably not the best way to experience that story.
- 17:44So maybe we'll talk about that one soon around Christmas time.
- 17:47I don't know. I always watch it.
- 17:49I won't watch it. I said that last year and I
- 17:51didn't. After the first film, Thomas Van
- 17:55Del, he was one of the actors in the original movie.
- 17:57He played the guy that Angela was interested in and that Meg
- 18:03was trying to get with the entire time.
- 18:06He ended up becoming a producer after that movie.
- 18:10He ended up getting the rights. I think he has the rights of
- 18:14this movie. Angela and Meg.
- 18:17Meg was the counsellor. OK, not Meg, Judy.
- 18:20Sorry, Judy. OK, Paul.
- 18:22Paul is the other guy. No, OK, it's not Paul.
- 18:24It's the the grown up dude. The other dude.
- 18:27I think it's the guy that Ricky is actually upset with her
- 18:31getting attention from. OK, I was going to say because
- 18:33the only like. I wish I remember.
- 18:35Angela was really ever kind of flirty with was Paul.
- 18:38OK, actually scratch that. It's the language.
- 18:41It's not it's not the person that Angela was with.
- 18:45I got that wrong. I think it's a very small role
- 18:48in the movie, but he ended up taking the rights, I think for
- 18:51the movie and became a producer for this.
- 18:54OK. He actually produced, he's
- 18:56produced several movies, some that you are a fan of, and one
- 19:00of them was one that Paul D'Angelo wrote and directed
- 19:03himself also. And the movie that he did that
- 19:06you're familiar with is We Summon the Darkness.
- 19:10Yeah. He's a producer for that,
- 19:11surprisingly, Yeah. So the rights thing, I think
- 19:15that's something that I think I remember seeing online myself.
- 19:20So, OK, here's the thing. Here's how you can get a legit
- 19:22copy of Return to Sleepway Camp. He does conventions.
- 19:25He does reunion stuff for Sleepway Camp.
- 19:29When he goes to conventions, he has copies of this movie at his
- 19:33table. So you can get a legit copy from
- 19:36the source itself right there. But I think that's the only way
- 19:38you can get a legit one unless you find one second hand on like
- 19:41Amazon or eBay or something like that.
- 19:43Or you can try your luck on Etsy like we did.
- 19:45Yeah. But again, you're probably gonna
- 19:48come across some bootlegs like we did too.
- 19:50So. But yeah, you know, there, I
- 19:52think that is a source have a legit copy for some people out
- 19:56there. I could be entirely wrong about
- 19:58that, but that is something that I did see a long time ago.
- 20:01OK. So Mr. Van Delk seems to be very
- 20:04involved and was very involved in this movie back when it was
- 20:07being produced. And there's a whole website
- 20:10dedicated to it where he has a frequently asked questions
- 20:12section where he just gives people a bunch of information
- 20:16about the movie. And one of the things here was,
- 20:19how did you find Robert Hiltzik and talk him into coming back to
- 20:22sleep away camp after all these years?
- 20:24So this is what he had to say. I was in New York meeting with
- 20:27Melissa. This was the weekend that I did
- 20:29the original Felissa Rose interview.
- 20:31I asked Felissa to dig out anything she could find from the
- 20:34production of Sleep Away that might help lead me to Robert
- 20:36Hilstick and other cast members. She came across a scrapbook that
- 20:39various cast members wrote back in 1982 during production, and
- 20:44they actually used that piece of info that they found in the book
- 20:47to make the connection that ultimately led to Robert's phone
- 20:50number. So they had a long conversation,
- 20:53asked him if he would be able to or if he would be interested in
- 20:56doing a Slipway sequel. But he wanted to know if there
- 20:59was actually an audience for that.
- 21:01He had already tracked down Jonathan Searson, who's Ricky
- 21:05and Felicia, and Robert said he'd be interested as long as
- 21:08they, like, actually found out if there's interest for it.
- 21:11So he sent him to the original website that he had created and
- 21:15told him about the fan feedback and everything.
- 21:17So he saw all that stuff and he was able to be convinced to come
- 21:21back to the friend. Pretty much, that's kind of cool
- 21:24actually. And that's how a lot of them got
- 21:26convinced to do their reunions at conventions in the 1st place,
- 21:30because Felicia has been doing conventions for a while and she
- 21:33told a lot of them like, hey, no, you actually really,
- 21:37everybody loves this movie. It's become such a darling, you
- 21:41know, come to conventions, people will love it, people will
- 21:43want to meet you. And it was really great when the
- 21:46whole cast was there at Scarefest last year or the year
- 21:50before, whatever. When we had the reunion up here,
- 21:53yeah, it was really neat. He was there, too.
- 21:55So yeah, it's cool to see them all and they're all super into
- 21:58the roles and everything. They all have embraced it.
- 22:02Hiltzik actually had a sequel written back in 1986.
- 22:05He didn't like the comedic tone that the producers of the movie
- 22:09wanted to go in with the franchise.
- 22:11They were looking to go with something along the lines of the
- 22:14Nightmare on Elm Street movies, because those were huge at the
- 22:16time. So he also ended up just selling
- 22:20off his rights to the film and he decided to just like him and
- 22:23his wife wanted to start a family, so they just left the
- 22:26business all together and used whatever money they got from
- 22:29that to get that going. He wrote four different endings
- 22:32to this movie. Everybody got different scripts
- 22:35and he only used one of them. They only filmed one of them.
- 22:37So he was doing that to I guess try and keep spoilers under
- 22:41wraps. That makes sense.
- 22:43Filming of the movie wrapped back in 2003.
- 22:46It was intended for a theatrical release between 2004 and 2006,
- 22:50but they couldn't find any distribution.
- 22:54Also another problem, which might explain why this had $4
- 22:58million as a budget. They were super not satisfied
- 23:02with the special effects of the 1st edition of the movie, so
- 23:07Robert Hiltzik ordered them to do another round of it.
- 23:11And then they came back. Got that one finished in
- 23:14December of 2006 and Hiltzik still thought that that needed
- 23:18more work. So they ended up doing more, run
- 23:20another team on and then by 2007 they had finally gotten enough
- 23:24of it done to his lacking. Some of the major ones that
- 23:27needed to be retold were the ending scene with, I think it's,
- 23:32yeah, Michael's body where he was skinned.
- 23:34Yeah, they had to redo that. Just to be fair, the final
- 23:36product was pretty awesome. It was really good.
- 23:39TC's death had to be redone, and they also did some pick up shots
- 23:45that ultimately need to be redone.
- 23:47OK, so yeah, that's it for my fun facts that I had for this.
- 23:51All right, Yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there.
- 23:53Apparently it was like a super brutal shoot from everything
- 23:56that I read. They had like natural disasters
- 23:58and everything happened so. Oh.
- 23:59My God. God didn't want this movie to
- 24:01happen. It's an abomination, I think,
- 24:03yeah. All right, so with all of that
- 24:06said and done, I think we're ready to move on to good, bad,
- 24:09ugly and absurd. So, Jesse, what's the good?
- 24:12The good I like how much of the cast returns.
- 24:16I like that we get Felicia Bag. We get Ronnie DeAngelo Bag,
- 24:19Jonathan Pearson, history's greatest cousin, Cousin Ricky
- 24:25still killing it out there. I think we berenstain bared
- 24:29ourselves. Mandela affected ourselves
- 24:32because we were convinced he was in on all of it, but he ended up
- 24:36being just as shocked as everyone when we rewatched it
- 24:39last night. Yeah, he if anybody wants
- 24:42anything interesting, I suggest looking up his Instagram because
- 24:45he's he's a strange character. Yeah, it's an, it's an
- 24:48interesting. It's.
- 24:49Girl like I send Jesse some of them whenever he like posts like
- 24:53a real really weird 1 and I'm like Oh my God.
- 24:55Yeah. It's strange, but yeah, I agree
- 24:59with that. I like cousin Ricky.
- 25:01I'm glad he's back. I.
- 25:02Mean, yeah. That's all.
- 25:05You have good sense, that's fine.
- 25:10That's all you feel about. That that's what I got right
- 25:12now. OK, I I thought this actually
- 25:17captured the feel of the first one.
- 25:19Like, I watch this movie and I can feel it being more connected
- 25:24to the first movie then two and three, which I thought that that
- 25:29was actually cool. It did feel like a movie of that
- 25:31era, just with modern people. OK, You get like the punk kids
- 25:37and shit like that. Oh yeah.
- 25:38That reminds me. There was another thing I had.
- 25:40There was like a lot of weird cameos for this movie, which I
- 25:43guess would explain some of those weird punk, punk kids,
- 25:45'cause we have a lot of CKY members in this movie because
- 25:50one of them married Felissa Rose.
- 25:52Yeah, so you got that. One of the margieres is in it.
- 25:57This one I think only you and I will appreciate.
- 25:59But Mr. Chris Violet, who is in a little movie called A
- 26:04Christmas Crush, is one of the campers.
- 26:06There. We have Drake.
- 26:09And Christmas crush. Christmas crush the guy.
- 26:12The guy that gets the wish to like his neighbor.
- 26:17Like is he the one that accidentally has the wish?
- 26:21Or yeah, he's the main guy that like has like his fiance that he
- 26:24ruins his own marriage for potential marriage.
- 26:26Yeah, that's him. OK.
- 26:29Drake Bell's another one. He's in this movie.
- 26:32He's one of the counsellors, or not the counsellors.
- 26:34He's a camper in this movie. Where?
- 26:37I think that makes sense considering this rapt in 2003
- 26:40and that was around the era of like Drake and Josh getting
- 26:43started. So he wasn't like he was in his
- 26:45all that time, I think, but he wasn't like a mega star yet.
- 26:49And also Robert Hiltzik had this family in there, a lot of them.
- 26:53Like I saw a lot of Hiltzik's in the cast.
- 26:55So yeah. But anyways, yeah, like I, I
- 26:58really do feel like they recaptured the the tone, the
- 27:01feel, the vibe of the original 1 man.
- 27:04I don't know, I don't think they do a bad job with this movie.
- 27:07It's not terrible. Like I watched it yesterday and
- 27:10I had thought that it was really bad, but then like I was, I came
- 27:13away pleasantly surprised. Although I was kind of bummed
- 27:16afterwards. But we'll get into that in a
- 27:19little bit. All right.
- 27:21What's the bad then? What did you not like?
- 27:25I feel like he was trying to kind of recapture the first one
- 27:30and it just ended up like he was kind of overdoing some of the
- 27:34stuff, OK, he said. The kids are like overly mean on
- 27:39this one. Yeah, they're.
- 27:41Intense. I think that's the point that
- 27:44they're going with. They're trying to go with like,
- 27:47bullying is bad and here's how it can go terribly.
- 27:52But yeah, like, I, I watched this movie and I'm depressed.
- 27:58Like it. It actually makes me genuinely
- 28:01sad for this kid. Yeah, it just it never lets up.
- 28:06Man, yeah, that was a thing. Like, like we paused it a few
- 28:10times to do things like, you know, feed the pets and all
- 28:13that. And like, I just stopped.
- 28:15Like this is the meanest movie I've ever seen in my fucking
- 28:17life. And I think that's still true.
- 28:20I don't think I've seen a movie that is as mean as this movie is
- 28:24because the things that they do to that kid.
- 28:28Like I don't why that is a bad that I'll agree with.
- 28:32Why front load? Like why make this movie
- 28:35basically just a montage of bullying and some of the most
- 28:39cruel bullying that you could do too?
- 28:41Yeah, like we, we never let up from it and we never get like
- 28:47the characters never feel nuanced.
- 28:49There's no redemption. There's like he, he doesn't have
- 28:51a moment where he comes out the other side like, you know,
- 28:55feeling good or better or, you know, like triumphant.
- 28:59Anyway, it just ends on such a downer too, man, it's so fucking
- 29:05upsetting, all right? Did you have anything else bad?
- 29:08That was like, that was the main thing.
- 29:11OK, I'll agree with you about the old dad, obviously, but the
- 29:15trend to recapture certain things because I feel like what
- 29:18he ended up doing was he ended up copying the same beats as the
- 29:21first movie. A lot of times, a lot of the
- 29:22deaths mirror some of the deaths, and just a lot of the
- 29:26plot points kind of mirror what happened in the original movie,
- 29:30which, you know, you can call it a homage, but to homage your own
- 29:33movie and the direct sequel to it is it's a choice.
- 29:37I guess. I don't know, But yeah,
- 29:40whatever. All right.
- 29:42So I think the Ugly's pretty obvious.
- 29:44Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:47Some of the bullying, the one that fucking kills me is the
- 29:50frog one. I wish that they didn't do that.
- 29:52What the? Fuck yeah.
- 29:54Why is animal cruelty funny? Well, I don't even think that
- 29:57they they may have. I see people refer to this as a
- 30:00black comedy sometimes and like, I just don't see the humor in
- 30:04any of the stuff that happens in this.
- 30:06But yeah, that was at least the only thing that makes that
- 30:09redeemable is the fact that Michael gets skinned later as
- 30:13punishment and payback. Because he thought skinning
- 30:15frogs was funny. Yeah, because he thought it was
- 30:17cool. And but I don't think that that
- 30:21justifies doing it in the movie in the 1st place because I don't
- 30:25want to see that shit. I don't want to see that.
- 30:27That's just, it's too much. This movie's too much sometimes.
- 30:33What's your absurd? Alan having the singular outfit
- 30:41and his catch phrase he has. He has he has one outfit change
- 30:46and I think it's because the counsellors forced it on him.
- 30:48Yeah. But it's.
- 30:50Because the kids stole his clothes, but I guess they gave
- 30:52the pants back because he's wearing the same pants.
- 30:54He he has to smell like shit. I don't think he showers all it.
- 30:57Has to be awful. Yeah.
- 30:59I'm honestly surprised his techie whitey's wear his white
- 31:02as they wear. Oh yeah, If we were being
- 31:05realistic for that character, they'd be staying in all all the
- 31:08ways. Well, they made a comment at the
- 31:10beginning that he like shirted. Oh yeah, you're right.
- 31:13Yeah. Well, I don't know.
- 31:14They could have been bullying. The movie starts with bullying
- 31:17and it ends with bullying. And there's a lot of bullying in
- 31:19the middle. Yeah.
- 31:20And then a little bit more bullying to go on top of that.
- 31:23Yeah, and there's like side plots of bullying.
- 31:25And then in the after credits, there's bullying there too.
- 31:29My absurd is he has this place that he goes to to run away from
- 31:34everybody. His secret hideout, he calls it,
- 31:36and he invites his crush to go there and then he doesn't even
- 31:40know that they're coming. He goes over there and he's just
- 31:42hanging out with his frogs and then she just comes up there and
- 31:44found it so easily. It's not a very secret hideout.
- 31:47He didn't even know that she was there.
- 31:49He just like walked. She just waltzed down.
- 31:51It seems like he expected her to not show, which also makes it
- 31:54seem like she could have just lied and agreed to go and then
- 31:57never go. She didn't have to do it, but
- 32:00you know what? She's a she's a person that's
- 32:02treated her words. So I respect them.
- 32:04OK. OK.
- 32:05What are you rated? Oh man, I want to like this more
- 32:09movie more than I actually do. I think if it had like a little
- 32:13bit more levity and fun in it at times it would be easier, but we
- 32:19just don't ever really get that. So I think I'm going to give it
- 32:24a 4.5. OK, when you're so above IMDb,
- 32:28at least I don't think it's that bad.
- 32:30I think it's a good movie still. It's just a hard watch.
- 32:33I think for me, it's one that I'm not going to revisit often
- 32:37because I just, I don't like the way it makes me feel.
- 32:39It just makes me feel bad and I don't like there are some movies
- 32:43where, you know, drama, feel bad, whatever.
- 32:46Like, you know, that's the point.
- 32:47I know what I'm getting. I I don't go to sleep away camp
- 32:50for the feel bads. I go to sleep away camp for the
- 32:54the schwalk and the cheese and the, you know, fun kills and
- 32:58stuff like that. Yeah, this movie, like it does
- 33:01get fun kills towards the end of the movie, but man, it's just
- 33:07it's, it's a swag through to like to sit through all that
- 33:10stuff. So I think I'll give it a six.
- 33:14OK, so 5 no 5.25525 starting. Average, OK, that's, that's a
- 33:24whole point that's above. Yeah, yeah, that's not bad.
- 33:28That's serviceable. Yeah, OK, let's get into it.
- 33:32So we start off, we have a musical song.
- 33:37Yes, that's how that works. A musical song.
- 33:39That's that phrase. I feel like it's sleep away
- 33:41camp. Yeah, it's got to be CKY, I
- 33:44would assume. I would assume as well, but they
- 33:48that's playing over newspaper clippings basically recapping
- 33:52sleep away camp. Yeah, then we cut 2 boys in a
- 33:55cabin trying to light their farts.
- 33:56Now here's the thing. As we learned from the Jackass
- 34:02collaboration with Mythbusters, it's not as simple as holding a
- 34:06lighter up to your butt while you fart.
- 34:08Yeah, they had to build a whole machine.
- 34:11There's a whole thing to try and get a lit fart.
- 34:15And we see them in this movie, so they must have had some kind
- 34:17of rig around that area where they had an open flame or
- 34:21something. Must have been because there's
- 34:23no way that this actually happened because it wouldn't
- 34:26have taken as many tries as it did to light a fart on Jackass.
- 34:29This is these these campers got to be super bored if this is
- 34:33what they're doing to entertain themselves like Whiting their
- 34:35farts. I mean, that just seems like
- 34:37typical boy stuff to me. I was a typical boy that I was
- 34:41at one point that age and I had never really crossed my mind
- 34:44but. Did you ever go to sleepaway
- 34:46camp? Though I went to a camp.
- 34:49Was it a sleep away? Camp it was not a sleep away
- 34:51camp I went home the same day and went back the next day and
- 34:54only lasted a week all right so they are they're over there
- 34:58they're having fun doing that Alan inserts himself he invites
- 35:01himself to a little fart lighting she.
- 35:03Comes out at first she's like, why are you guys laughing at me?
- 35:05And they're like, we're not laughing at you.
- 35:08So like already you kind of get the energy that and we talked
- 35:12about this a little bit last night with Alan.
- 35:13It almost feels like chicken and egg situation.
- 35:16Like does he have some of these behaviors as a defense
- 35:19mechanism? Or were some of these behaviors
- 35:21the reason why kids are not wanting to interact with him?
- 35:24And I feel like, I feel like they kind of built on each
- 35:27other. Like it's a negative feedback
- 35:28loop, you know? We get some snippets of some
- 35:32stuff with them. We get out of line from Michael
- 35:36and him or from a discussion where he was really sick for at
- 35:40a point of time as a kid, and apparently that has some kind of
- 35:45trauma. And he says that that has the
- 35:47lasting effects, too. So I don't know if that has
- 35:50mental effects also. Yeah, I really do.
- 35:55I just, I see this guy as a tragic character, truly.
- 35:59He's sad. Like I think he bullies because
- 36:02it's like pre emptive, like self-defense because this kid
- 36:05has to fight. Travis, are you saying that hurt
- 36:10people hurt people? That's that's the case, man.
- 36:17That's truly what happens here. Like he, I think he does.
- 36:21Like he, he's it's a defense mechanism every time this kid
- 36:25has to like fucking fight for his wife every goddamn day in
- 36:28this movie. So he wants to light his fart
- 36:30and when he does the kids say taba Hershey squirts.
- 36:33Which is why I think it was a poop fart shark, as they say.
- 36:38And he gets upset they're making fun of him and so he grabs a
- 36:41bottle of Hairspray alone. I don't know.
- 36:45He makes torch and comes at them and they're like.
- 36:48And then Randy comes in. How fucking old is Randy
- 36:51supposed to be? I thought camp counselors were
- 36:52generally in like their 20s. I don't know.
- 36:54I don't know if you can legally say no to somebody applying when
- 36:58you're 40. Yeah, I was going to say Randy
- 37:00is about 45. Yeah, he's, you know.
- 37:03And he goes, don't worry, he'll get his sometimes.
- 37:06He's British. The actor, I'm fairly certain,
- 37:10is always British. Yeah, but the character is not
- 37:13always British. It might it might have been a
- 37:15choice. Who knows?
- 37:17He they get him and Randy have like a whole situation where
- 37:21they're constantly going at it too and.
- 37:23Yeah, it's kind of, I think it's meant to mirror like the Angela
- 37:26Meg, Yeah relationship. That's how it seems, yeah.
- 37:29So this is more intense. Yeah.
- 37:33And he basically kicks him out of the cabin, I think.
- 37:37And then he says it's trademark catch phrase.
- 37:39Hey Randy, your ass stinks. He had to have said that one
- 37:45time in like 4th grade and everybody laughed because he
- 37:48laughed at stuff like that in 4th grade and he has ridden that
- 37:52high ever since and hasn't come up with new material.
- 37:56You know, it seems to actually be effective because everybody's
- 37:59generally like, oh, man, he got me.
- 38:01Like anytime they like. He says that in this movie,
- 38:02everybody's like shit. It's his version of like you've
- 38:05been jammed. You just got jammed.
- 38:08So his stepbrother Michael is flirting with the girl he likes
- 38:12and all of the campers at his table are making fun of them.
- 38:17This is when Sheriff Jerry stands up to give a speech on
- 38:19the dangers of smoking. And the kids all suck.
- 38:23They just suck. They're they're just making fun
- 38:26because he's got a voice box and you know, like he's just trying
- 38:32to be like a I have an example of like, hey, cigarettes like do
- 38:34this. So if you don't want this to
- 38:36happen to you, don't smoke. And then the kids just make fun.
- 38:38And you know, it's, I mean, that's just the theme of this
- 38:42movie. Kids fucking suck.
- 38:43I can understand why. That's why that's the tagline.
- 38:46Can I also say though, Frank kind of sucks for not getting
- 38:50Jerry a microphone to speak with because I don't know how much
- 38:54volume control there is with those tools.
- 38:58Yeah, you know, you're right. I didn't even think about.
- 39:00That how was he supposed to project to a cafeteria full?
- 39:03Of he can't project. 100 kids. Turn the volume up I.
- 39:07Guess like is there a way? Yeah, that's true.
- 39:10He was set up for failure there. And he seemed too excited.
- 39:13He's like, yeah, the same shit, different day.
- 39:16So Randy is trying to get Alan to eat his chicken.
- 39:20Alan's like, no, it's going to make me throw up.
- 39:21To be fair, that. Chicken.
- 39:22It was raw, man. Everybody's going to get sick.
- 39:26Yeah, that was some nasty chicken.
- 39:27And yeah, they go back and forth.
- 39:29Randy, like actually forces his face onto the plate and then he
- 39:32forces his plate onto the ground and his plate, his face onto the
- 39:36plate on the ground. Yeah.
- 39:38It's bullying, man. He's being a meanie.
- 39:42So at what point does it go from bullying to abuse?
- 39:45When it's like an adult versus a child.
- 39:47It's abuse in this situation. But don't worry, everybody.
- 39:50Our true hero, Mr. Ronnie. Yeah, and his short shorts, as
- 39:54he, as God, intended. He has matured.
- 39:57His shorts are at least three inches longer than they were in
- 40:01the first sleepaway camp. They've got their priorities
- 40:04wrong if this is what they're addressing.
- 40:06Like, they see all of the abuse going with the counselors, but
- 40:09then they're like, hey, Ronnie, you need to like, lengthen the
- 40:12shorts just like an inch maybe. Listen, he's a part owner now.
- 40:15That's true. Dress professionally.
- 40:17He's like, oh, I'll be an owner, but I can still wear shorts.
- 40:20You know what? That's another thing this movie
- 40:22is missing is a random scene of Ronnie in the background pumping
- 40:25some iron. You're right, we didn't.
- 40:26I get that. I wish we did get.
- 40:28That, yeah. But I wish he's still a nice
- 40:30dude. Yeah, he breaks it up.
- 40:31And then kind of like Angel in the first movie who didn't want
- 40:34to eat and got in trouble. And he's like, hey, like, go
- 40:37back to the kitchen. They'll get you something
- 40:38special. And you know, we'll, we'll
- 40:40smooth things over like that. So he goes back there.
- 40:44Mikey's back there, Mickey. See, and this fucked me up.
- 40:48I we could have had a different name for either Michael or
- 40:50Mickey. We could have, we could have
- 40:52done a different. Yeah, this is confusing.
- 40:54He's like, you can have egg salad or two, no salad, no ice
- 40:58cream, and Alan grabs an ice cream bar anyway.
- 41:01So Mickey, being the mature, reasonable adult, throws eggs at
- 41:06Alan. This is a fucking burnout.
- 41:09And Alan, being a child being attacked by an adult, throws
- 41:14pots and pans back at Mickey. Mickey throws more eggs.
- 41:19Oh. Alan grabs a knife.
- 41:23By this point, everybody has heard the commotion in the
- 41:25cafeteria. So Frank comes running in, sees
- 41:27the knife being thrown, and like whoa whoa whoa, we need to not
- 41:31do any of this. Alan runs away with his classic
- 41:35line. Your ass stinks.
- 41:36And Frank tells Michael to go find Alan.
- 41:40Yeah, so Alan has ran into a secret hideaway camp, and he's
- 41:44got frog friends. And I like this, You know, this
- 41:47at least makes him human and somewhat likable for him to have
- 41:50his like a little group of frog friends.
- 41:52It is kind of a dream where he's like, they're my friends.
- 41:54I someday I so want to be like a like a crow lady because you can
- 42:00become friends with the crows. They actually befriend you.
- 42:02Exchange gifts, Yes. They actually give you gifts.
- 42:05Yes, but as I talked about at book club this week, I don't
- 42:08know the difference between birds.
- 42:09I know crows are black. What kind of gift does a crow
- 42:12give you? Like sticks and rocks and like,
- 42:14maybe sometimes it'll find like, I'm not even joking.
- 42:16You can look this up online. People befriend crows.
- 42:19That's kind of cool. I didn't know you could do that.
- 42:21Yeah. Don't tell Talia you're planning
- 42:23on doing this, so she's not gonna be.
- 42:25She would not be OK with it, No. Maybe this.
- 42:28Maybe this is what would change her opinion on birds.
- 42:32I don't know. She she never really.
- 42:34She's just now warming up to Zoe, who's lived there here for.
- 42:3710 years. Yeah, she doesn't really take
- 42:40the change. All right, So now, yeah, they're
- 42:45having their conversation. I think Michael is actually
- 42:48trying to be somewhat nice to his brother here.
- 42:52He's like a cool man, like, you know, just deal with shit, you
- 42:56know, be a fucking like a person.
- 42:59Don't like run away and hang out with your frog friends.
- 43:01Still kind of fuck you for saying that, but.
- 43:03It's interesting that you said that because I wrote Michael is
- 43:06not sympathetic. He's well, I think I'm just
- 43:09skewed with how shitty he becomes in this movie, but this
- 43:13is like the closest thing to sympathy I think that
- 43:15character's capable of. Yeah, it ends with them like
- 43:19fighting and Michael drops his knife.
- 43:23He Allen holds a knife to him and he's like, go get the fuck
- 43:27out of here. And then, yeah, Michael, like,
- 43:29grabs the knife out of his hand and just storms off and keeps
- 43:32it. I wish he had one Danny McBride.
- 43:35That's what I thought. OK, so Mickey is cleaning up in
- 43:40the kitchen. And by cleaning up, I mean he
- 43:42was making his own dinner, which is burgers and fries.
- 43:45I just I could not motivate myself to operate a whole ass
- 43:48fryer for fries. No, I think it's a little.
- 43:52That air fryer is too much for me.
- 43:54Yeah, yeah, it's a little bit. It's a it's a bit much.
- 43:57But if it's between that and raw chicken, I'm going to do that.
- 44:01For sure. So he's over there, he's got the
- 44:04fryer going and he's getting his fries put in there, and then
- 44:07somebody sinks up right behind. Him, he starts wiping the side
- 44:11of the fryer because he's like imitating Charlie.
- 44:13He's like got more grace on the fryer.
- 44:16Oh, yeah, we, we didn't mention Charlie.
- 44:19The chef here is Isaac Hayes, who plays chef on South Park,
- 44:23and he's dressed exactly like chef.
- 44:25He's got the red shirt and the blue jeans.
- 44:27It's. I just wish he could have had
- 44:29one moment where he passed with the kids and said hi children.
- 44:32I know this was his final movie apparently.
- 44:34Man. Yeah, let's stroke you.
- 44:37All right, So anyways, this is mirroring the scene from the
- 44:42first one with the creepy pedophile dude getting boiling
- 44:46water poured all over him. Except this guy Mickey.
- 44:49He gets his face dumped right into boiling oil.
- 44:53I will say this is one of the more like well shot scenes and
- 44:57how tense I feel because like you see his hand sliding, which
- 45:00is why I pointed out that grease line because it's important
- 45:03because it's not clean on there. His hands are sliding around a
- 45:05lot and like I'm in my head, I'm like, all it would take for me
- 45:10is for my thumb to dip into the fryer just a little bit and then
- 45:13out of like instinct, I would yank my hand back and then all
- 45:16of me would fall. I.
- 45:17Think that's exactly what. Happens.
- 45:18That's exactly what ends up happening.
- 45:20Then when he gets pulled out. So he gets pulled out and his
- 45:25head is deep fried. His lips have disintegrated,
- 45:30which cool effect, but it does make the fact that his eyeballs
- 45:34are still intact a little bit weird.
- 45:36They would have boiled. Yeah, they're.
- 45:37Jelly they would have like melted or something.
- 45:39The whole eyeballs are is Jelly. Yeah, you know, I hadn't
- 45:42considered that. Don't tell Robert Hilton.
- 45:44That's like, God damn it, we got to redo it again.
- 45:46All right, everybody come back. All right, we're starting from
- 45:50the top. Yeah.
- 45:53So they're down, then he gets. Compacted in the trash.
- 45:57Yeah, he gets a goose burial. If anybody wants to know what
- 46:00that is, I have a fantastic movie suggestion for you.
- 46:04It's called Deadbeat at Dawn. Sorry, you said let's do it from
- 46:09the top. My brain immediately went to Tim
- 46:11and Eric, Top Gun from the top. And then you said Goose burial.
- 46:14And I was like, that is not how Goose was buried in Top Gun.
- 46:17Is, is Goose a gun in Top Gun? Yes.
- 46:19Oh, wow. Yeah, he's Tom Cruise's bestie
- 46:22who dies because Tom Cruise is an arrogant asshole.
- 46:24Wow. But also his character is an
- 46:26arrogant asshole. Wow, that's a crazy coincidence
- 46:30right there. Yeah.
- 46:31I'm just I was so confused. For a second, it's not really
- 46:35much of A spoiler. Debbie had done his Somebody
- 46:40gets a trash compactor, death or burial, basically.
- 46:42They just like, all right, can't do anything else with you, so
- 46:45they just throw you in it. It's kind of funny, but sad.
- 46:50Ronnie and Ronnie go to visit Frank.
- 46:52Yeah, yeah, they're going to complain about Mickey.
- 46:55He's just not really up to snuff.
- 46:56So the Frank's like fuck it, fire, whatever.
- 46:59And then this is where we go. And Ronnie is actually a part
- 47:02owner and. We also need to do something
- 47:05about the rats and Frank's like later.
- 47:07He goes, It's just like it's a health concern.
- 47:10And now that I'm an owner and Frank's, like, part owner.
- 47:13Minority Share. Oh asshole, this dude has the
- 47:17same last name as the count or the owner of the from the first
- 47:21one in the movie. Oh, does he?
- 47:23Yeah. So I don't know if it's meant to
- 47:24be like a relative or something. That would kind of make sense.
- 47:28Yeah, I think it it makes sense. So the burnouts, as I was
- 47:32calling them, I believe you were calling them the punks, but they
- 47:35seem much more interested in smoking than anything.
- 47:38Well, yeah, they're. Understand.
- 47:40Yeah, They want to prank somebody into smoking dried cow
- 47:45shit. Apparently they do this every
- 47:47year. And so that's what they're doing
- 47:50back behind the stage in the rec area, the gym, what have you.
- 47:54This is where you were in the trick.
- 47:57I mean, you hit it first and then I hit it cuz you don't
- 48:01wanna. You don't wanna.
- 48:03Yeah, smoke a shit, doobie. It's just like if you go to a
- 48:07meal or have a toast or something with your enemy and
- 48:10it's like, yeah. You go first.
- 48:11Yeah, unless, you know, they pull up Princess Bride and like,
- 48:15has spent years developing an immunity.
- 48:19Oh yeah, tolerance. Aw man, I forgot about that.
- 48:22Yeah. OK.
- 48:24So yeah, there's like a camp mixer going on that like the.
- 48:29It might just be like a regular old night.
- 48:31Like I think that they can just hang out in the rec area at
- 48:33night. This is another one of those
- 48:35things that made me think of the original cuz the like 2 and
- 48:39three never did anything like this.
- 48:41I know. Which is weird, but that's like
- 48:43it. Immediately brings me back to
- 48:44the original Super 8 camp when I see this.
- 48:47So Alan approaches Karen and her group of friends, and Karen's
- 48:50like please don't leave me with him.
- 48:52And of course, they all leave him with him.
- 48:54And she tells Alan that he smells.
- 48:57And he goes, oh, it's because Mickey threw eggs at me.
- 48:59And she goes, oh, he's such a creep.
- 49:00You haven't changed your shirt since then.
- 49:02And what Alan takes away from that is, oh, you also hate
- 49:05Mickey. Yeah, you hate Mickey too?
- 49:07Yeah. All right, We got a connection.
- 49:10We can bond. Then he starts to walk away.
- 49:13Bella starts fighting him, and then TC starts fighting him, and
- 49:18then Bella and TC are fighting. It's just kind of a brawl, A
- 49:22melee if you will. Frank sends Alan to his cabin,
- 49:25but instead he goes backstage. Yep, where he finds the stoners
- 49:29who have a rolled up shit doobie right there ready to go.
- 49:33And they're like, hey, Alan, you, you like to party?
- 49:36And he's like, yeah, yeah. So he like, he lights it up.
- 49:39He keeps talking and they're like, oh, he's amazing.
- 49:41He's so fucking good. He's just like, I think I
- 49:47actually, I feel like if you smoked an actual piece of shit
- 49:50you would probably like that would hurt your lungs.
- 49:52I don't think it'd be good for you.
- 49:53Yeah, no, there's no way that it felt good at all.
- 49:56And the way he was coughing, I don't maybe he did get a little
- 49:58bit of a buzz just from being light headed.
- 50:00Whoa, yeah. I think, you know, he might
- 50:02actually have a buzz. He like, collapses his knees
- 50:06coughing, and then he, like, you know, wraps himself around,
- 50:09spazzes. We, we, they did this in
- 50:12American Dad when Stan has to live on minimum wage for a month
- 50:17and then he ends up like huffing the poop bag.
- 50:20Yeah, with the street person. And then we discovered that
- 50:24that's a real thing that kids did for a while and like, yeah,
- 50:27remember, because it was on that one of the, like, spooky YouTube
- 50:31channels. Yeah, no, that's a definitely a
- 50:32thing like yeah, yeah. So I wonder if maybe he was
- 50:36getting something from it. You know, he could have.
- 50:39Yeah, he's down there and he's, he's coughing his fucking lungs
- 50:44out. How bad?
- 50:44Does he have to smell that people aren't reacting to the
- 50:47smell of lit shit? Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 50:50Like this kid, the more this movie goes on, the more I'm
- 50:53like. I will say I am really impressed
- 50:55with the continuity of his shirt's filth.
- 50:58Dude, that's the thing. Like I see pictures of it and
- 51:01like by the end of it I thought, oh, he has a cool tie dye shirt.
- 51:04No, it's not tie dye. It's eggs and paintballs.
- 51:08Yeah, the tie dye kind of makes me.
- 51:10It makes me think of the shirt I got at a Twin Peaks concert and
- 51:15it followed me into the mosh pit and it has what I refer to as
- 51:20the burl tie dye job it. Didn't follow you remember I
- 51:23held onto it because you went to mosh and I dropped it
- 51:26accidentally and it got stomped. That's exactly.
- 51:29What happened? That was my cute suit way
- 51:31without throwing you under the bus.
- 51:32No, I deserve it. You know, it's true.
- 51:35I mean, the Mosh culture was kind.
- 51:36They're like, here's your shirt. But I like they're like.
- 51:39Oh, sorry, Mosh culture is kind. Yeah, it doesn't seem kind, but
- 51:43it is. Surprisingly kind.
- 51:46I'm still I got my defenses up around them.
- 51:50They also helped me because that was my Fitbit fell off that
- 51:52night too, and everyone was like stop cover Fitbit.
- 51:54It was really kind. And then that was the last show
- 51:58we went to before COVID, and washing has never been the same.
- 52:01That was the last show I think Twin Peaks paid I.
- 52:04Play too Twin Peaks was never the same all.
- 52:08Right. So people TC who is 100% got to
- 52:13be called back to TC from Superway camp too.
- 52:17He. My car.
- 52:20He walks in and he sees what appears to be Allen giving Spaz
- 52:24a blowjob, so they come up with the most.
- 52:27Stan. Stan OK, they come up with the
- 52:29most clever nickname ever, Blowjob.
- 52:32That seems correct for like 13 year old boys.
- 52:36Yeah. See, Allen, he does the thing
- 52:38that you're not supposed to do here, and he makes it very clear
- 52:41that it's getting to him because he's just like, stop it.
- 52:44Stop calling me that. He like gets really freaked out
- 52:46about it and that's just going to make them continue to do.
- 52:49It and that's when PD walks in and she breaks up what's
- 52:51happening and as Ronnie walks in, he tells everybody that they
- 52:55need to get to their box. Man I feel bad for Ronnie.
- 52:59This was like this is probably the worst group of kids he's
- 53:02ever had to deal with his entire lives.
- 53:04They really do. There's not a single good kid in
- 53:06this entire batch. And he's like more invested than
- 53:09ever since he literally invested in the camp.
- 53:12Yeah, he's like literally invested.
- 53:15So later that night, it's around 2:00 AM, stoners are out there.
- 53:18Just token. They have two other gals that
- 53:21are with them, but they're like, hey, Sue and Eddie, Sue and
- 53:23Eddie. OK, somehow man, you should get
- 53:25their names. Yeah.
- 53:26So they're they bounce. Stan also leaves.
- 53:29Yeah, Weed, which I was writing Reed because I was really hoping
- 53:33they didn't just name this kid Weed.
- 53:34I understand it's probably a nickname, but Oh yeah, it's it.
- 53:38Like, again, it's all the creativity of blowjob.
- 53:42Yeah. None of these kids is good at
- 53:43bullying, and I talk about that a lot.
- 53:45Like if you're going to be a bully, at least you know, have
- 53:47some I. Don't know man.
- 53:49I think some of the things they do later, like it's not like
- 53:51good bullying, but it's effective.
- 53:55So he is like stoned out of his fucking gourd and he gets tied
- 53:59up to the chair and force had some gasoline which I feel like
- 54:02would have a very immediate negative effect.
- 54:06And then he has gagged with a DARE sticker, which was a funny
- 54:08little. Yeah, that was cool.
- 54:11And then they like, there's a hole right in the mouth and a
- 54:14joint gets put in there. And when the joints lit, he is
- 54:16like explodes, Yeah. Like actually, his insides come
- 54:19outside of him. The whole camp basically comes
- 54:22out and sees it. Santa's distraught, absolutely
- 54:25torn up, and this is the last receive stand.
- 54:27Yeah, and Ronnie is now like, all right, I fucking know.
- 54:32I know who did it. It's Angela.
- 54:34And Frank is trying to call him him cuz he's selling this to the
- 54:36cop. Yeah Frank also sucks cuz he's
- 54:39like oh Angela you mean he him? Yeah, this is another one of
- 54:45those things of this movie. Like they get really fixated on
- 54:48the gender of this person where it's really not even a thing
- 54:52worth worrying about. It's like any Facebook comment
- 54:55section. Yeah, it's so Ronnie suggests
- 54:59that the cop go talk to Ricky. That's Angela's cousin, Alan
- 55:04Ruins Sports the next day. Yeah.
- 55:07Yeah, he just. It just he's walking through,
- 55:11like, the middle of games, taking equipment, and then he
- 55:16walks into the middle of a croquet match and he tells the
- 55:21cabin full of girls, like, I'm not going to leave until Karen
- 55:24agrees to come to my secret spot with me.
- 55:26And she's like, only if I can bring a friend.
- 55:28And he goes, which friend? And she goes, Marie.
- 55:30He goes, I like Marie. Yeah, she can come too.
- 55:32You know, her friends kind of like bullied her into doing it.
- 55:35They're like, all right, just fucking do it, Karen.
- 55:37And like, just like, this is like this.
- 55:39It's a bummer. So he then arrives late to
- 55:44paintball and he basically puts no gear on he's got.
- 55:48He's trying to but they take his gear and throw it.
- 55:51Away, yes, but he goes to pick it up and he leaves everything
- 55:54except for the face mask, which he then just wears around his
- 55:57neck. Yeah, Come on, kid.
- 55:59You know what's gonna happen here?
- 56:01Why would you do that to yourself?
- 56:03Yeah, and exactly what you think happens, happens.
- 56:05He goes out there and everybody turns on him and shoots him.
- 56:09Yeah, he sees the enemy team and like they start firing and he
- 56:13runs back to his own team. He's like, guys, guys are over
- 56:15there. And then they just start firing
- 56:16at him. And this is another one of those
- 56:18extremely sad scenes where they have him completely circled.
- 56:20He's just down on the ground in the fetal position, and they are
- 56:23just lighting him up with the fucking paintballs until they
- 56:26run out. It's a it's an upsetting shot.
- 56:29Yeah, I hate it. So Cousin Ricky gets a visit
- 56:34from Sheriff Jerry. And Sheriff Jerry says, now your
- 56:37cousin Angela is still locked up in the sanitarium, right?
- 56:40He goes, yeah. He goes, Are you sure?
- 56:43And he's like, yeah, I'm the only one that goes to visit her.
- 56:46And I was just there a couple weeks ago.
- 56:47And then Sheriff Jerry goes, you mean him?
- 56:49And then Cousin Ricky looks like he's about to beat Sheriff
- 56:52Jerry. Yeah.
- 56:52He tells him to fuck off pretty much and gets back on a fucking
- 56:56construction machine. I don't know what he's on.
- 57:02I believe that little YouTube fellow that our nephew likes
- 57:07would say it's an excavator. Man, what is his?
- 57:10Name Dirt. See you later.
- 57:12Lippy. Lippy.
- 57:12Lippy, Lippy the today's Bob the Builder.
- 57:16Yeah. So we are now with Alan, who is
- 57:20in the secret hideaway. He's playing with his frogs and
- 57:23what do you know, we have Karen and Marie who have arrived and
- 57:27he's super shocked about it. And he's like, I got soda.
- 57:30You want soda? I got some chips.
- 57:32You want chips? And then, like, there's a lot of
- 57:34frogs. Here he goes.
- 57:34Yeah, they're my friends. And then I see some skin.
- 57:39Oh God yeah, I want to just like cruise passes as fast as
- 57:42possible so. Yeah, And it's really like, so
- 57:44Karen and Marie rightfully are like, oh, we're getting the fuck
- 57:47out of here. What is this?
- 57:48And Alan is crying. I feel like his reaction makes
- 57:51it very clear he did not do this.
- 57:52Yeah, but these kids don't give a fuck, man.
- 57:56And then Vinny and Michael pop out with a knife and they're
- 57:59laughing and they're like, yeah, it's cool.
- 58:01We did it because it's cool. It's funny.
- 58:02And then Alan fucking snaps and he's like, Oh my God, that
- 58:06Karen, I got to go tell her. So he like, goes chasing after
- 58:09her and he's trying to tell her that it wasn't him, it was
- 58:14Michael that did it. But he gets down to the pier
- 58:17where everybody's swimming. And then he's just, I'm probably
- 58:20the worst day of this kid's life where his, you know, he just
- 58:23witnessed that. He goes down there and the
- 58:25counsellor down there, Randy picks a fight with him and then
- 58:30he orders the kids there to give him a wedgie and then they end
- 58:34up giving him a wedgie and throwing him in the water.
- 58:36State sanctioned bullying. It's like God damn so fucking
- 58:40much. It never stops.
- 58:42PD helps him out and then tells Romney that like, yeah, this is
- 58:46going to keep happening unless you actually fucking do
- 58:48something. We come to Frank, who talks to
- 58:52his bird Matilda and learns that Matilda has learned to say.
- 58:56Grass stinks. And he's pissed, Yeah.
- 59:00He thinks Alan's been in his place, so he goes running off to
- 59:03get him. Bella is shooting spit balls at
- 59:07Alan, but Alan is also bullying some of the smaller kids in
- 59:10line. It's chews on one girl's pink
- 59:13tails. Yeah, this is 1.
- 59:15Where? Like, come on, Alan.
- 59:17My God, we have cats out there ready for food.
- 59:18That's. Loud.
- 59:21Yeah. Yeah, he's, he's being, he's not
- 59:24helping himself in this situation.
- 59:26So yeah, you know, he's getting spitballs out of him.
- 59:29He goes over there and confronts Bella for doing the spitballs.
- 59:32They start fighting, and then Frank comes in and I was like,
- 59:36what did you do? Why did you teach Matilda to say
- 59:39that? And he goes, what?
- 59:40I don't know what you're talking about.
- 59:41And Bella, creative bullying goes, what are you talking
- 59:44about, Alan? You were just in here bragging
- 59:46about it. Oh.
- 59:47My God, yeah. I'm not condoning bullying, I'm
- 59:50just saying like it's nice for it not all to be like hey poop
- 59:54head. That's true.
- 59:56So before this, we had the Karen and TC and a couple of other
- 1:00:00kids outside and they're like, come on, you got to like
- 1:00:03convince Alan to do this. Just tell him, you know, you
- 1:00:05want to hang out, you know, whatever.
- 1:00:06It'll be funny. And she's really worried.
- 1:00:08She's like, I think he might kill me if I do this.
- 1:00:11Yeah, he is. He is like 1 bad day away so and
- 1:00:14he's already had half of a really bad day.
- 1:00:16Yeah, and he is now leaving the mess hall and he's walking past
- 1:00:20her and she's like, hey, I don't know, like where me and a couple
- 1:00:23of the girls are going to play spin the bottle.
- 1:00:25We'd like you to join. And this kid should know better
- 1:00:27at this point, but he just agrees and goes along with it.
- 1:00:30So they he is. So trusting.
- 1:00:32And he should not be. No, he needs.
- 1:00:35To go back to that energy he had at the beginning of the movie,
- 1:00:37like, are you laughing? At me.
- 1:00:38He should yeah, he should be skeptical for sure.
- 1:00:41He he's led to a dark room and he goes there and Karen's like,
- 1:00:45hold on, I'll be right back. And then while he's there alone,
- 1:00:49he's being grabbed. And we don't know what's
- 1:00:51happening, but we see he's on the stage behind the curtain.
- 1:00:55And the whole hall gathers and the lights turn out, the
- 1:01:00spotlights thrown on there, the curtains pulled.
- 1:01:04And it's Alan. He's tied up with no clothes but
- 1:01:07his underwear on. And he's just pushed out there
- 1:01:09for everybody to see and laugh at and at finally, Ronnie
- 1:01:16Stepson. I want to know who is
- 1:01:17responsible for this, he tells Randy to figure out because he
- 1:01:20figures it has to come from his cabin.
- 1:01:21I mean, he goes. It's my night off, Sir.
- 1:01:24You're 40. Why are you hanging in the rec
- 1:01:27hall on your night off? I'm a man I'm 40.
- 1:01:31So Ronnie cancels his night off, but that means Dick to Randy.
- 1:01:36Yeah? So Ronnie accuses PD of being
- 1:01:39Angela, PD Peter, and like he's getting really aggressive with
- 1:01:44her. And then Sheriff Jerry comes in
- 1:01:46and stops and Frank sends PD to her cabin and it's just like
- 1:01:50kind of trying to talk Ronnie off a ledge.
- 1:01:52And then they go outside and all the other campers are outside
- 1:01:56behind tree shouting blow, drop, blow, drop, blow, drop.
- 1:02:01Fuck these fucking kids. So Alan goes running off.
- 1:02:05Yeah, and he this is like his like defining snap moment
- 1:02:08because he goes out there yells and then you just see he like
- 1:02:11oh, like a calm washes. Out my head and.
- 1:02:13Then he just looks around and he just like, sprints to the woods.
- 1:02:16So Ronnie goes to look for him in Frank's cabin.
- 1:02:19We see Matilda is grabbed. Frank hears the sound so he
- 1:02:22comes out and he's bonked on the head.
- 1:02:24When he comes to they put the cage on his head and add in some
- 1:02:28rheics. That right there, I feel like
- 1:02:31that was like giving like, is Ronnie the killer vibe right
- 1:02:35there because he was complaining about the rats earlier.
- 1:02:37So Karen is feeling partially guilty but mostly worried that
- 1:02:42she is, like, on a hit list for this.
- 1:02:45Yeah. And.
- 1:02:47The rest of the girls in the cabin are like, we don't care.
- 1:02:49Like we want to go back to the canteen.
- 1:02:51So they convinced her to go back to the canteen with them.
- 1:02:54TC is convinced to go on a panty raid.
- 1:02:59I hate the word panty. And he's like, I don't know,
- 1:03:03guys. Like Ronnie said he's going to
- 1:03:05check on me every 15 minutes and like has it yet?
- 1:03:07And he's like, no. So he starts to get up and go,
- 1:03:10and as soon as he steps outside, Ryan's like Tuesday.
- 1:03:12Yeah, I love that. I love that he immediately got
- 1:03:15it. So Ronnie, Randy and Linda are
- 1:03:20at the pump house to pump house. Yeah, Randy keeps doing this
- 1:03:26fucking stupid little gesture where he's like used to pump
- 1:03:30house and he's like cuz fuck. And if you think Randy sounds
- 1:03:33like the type of guy who wears tight pants and menarded button
- 1:03:37up, you are 5000% correct. Yeah, you'd be correct.
- 1:03:42With a shirt that looks like maybe he got it at Dan Flashes
- 1:03:44on sale. Yeah, and he's like, hey, Linda,
- 1:03:47go get the beers up there. And the sleeping bag.
- 1:03:50And. The sleeping bag.
- 1:03:50She's like why don't you? And he's like cuz I got to take
- 1:03:53a leak and I'm shocked. Hi.
- 1:03:55Yeah, so she goes and he is weaning up against the tree and
- 1:03:59then there is somebody behind them.
- 1:04:01He's peeing the wrong way, leaning up against the tree.
- 1:04:04He is, yeah. You know.
- 1:04:07You're supposed to pee on the tree.
- 1:04:08Maybe that's like a. British thing, they do a
- 1:04:10different over there. Yeah, like they drive on the
- 1:04:13right side of the road. They pee outside of the road.
- 1:04:14Yeah. They pee on the other side of
- 1:04:16the tree. They don't pee on the tree.
- 1:04:17That's disrespectful. Yeah.
- 1:04:19He gets tied to the tree. And we see this like little like
- 1:04:24wire that has like a hoop on it or a loop and it's the perfect
- 1:04:28size for a pee pee and it goes around his around the Dick and
- 1:04:33balls or just the Dick. He says that's not jewels there.
- 1:04:36I think it grazed the balls. I think he, I think they got the
- 1:04:38balls in there it. Doesn't count if the balls
- 1:04:40aren't involved in some way. Yeah.
- 1:04:43And he's like, he's really uncomfortable, obviously.
- 1:04:49And you see the wire is being stretched out and it's like
- 1:04:52going through the woods. And then we see that it's like
- 1:04:55tied to the bottom of his Jeep, and Linda is trying to get the
- 1:04:59stuff from the Jeep. And as she's walking back to the
- 1:05:01woods, she's like, Oh my God, he's after me.
- 1:05:04Yeah, and he thinks it's Alan because he's like, he's
- 1:05:07apologizing profusely at Alan, which, you know what, man?
- 1:05:10I think he had this one coming. Yeah, honestly, I I have no
- 1:05:13sympathy for this guy who was in his Dick.
- 1:05:16So Linda goes running and she slams on the car and it takes
- 1:05:19her mix. She gets caught in a ditch and
- 1:05:21then she remembers to. She sucks at driving.
- 1:05:24She doesn't just like fuck up the gear spat.
- 1:05:26She just runs right into a fucking hill and gets stuck in
- 1:05:30the mud out there. And then eventually she's like
- 1:05:3204 wheel drive. She switches that on and fours
- 1:05:35in and this just Yanks the shit off of Randy.
- 1:05:38And then she is driving and not paying close enough attention.
- 1:05:41Plus it's also dark and she hits some barbed wire.
- 1:05:44Oh yeah, at face height. Rest right around her head.
- 1:05:48So TC is in the cabin. He's looking through a magazine
- 1:05:52and then like a sharpened broom handle comes up and he's like
- 1:05:55poking at him. So he freaks out and does what
- 1:05:58you shouldn't do, which is stick your eye to the hole in the
- 1:06:01floor. Yeah, and he, his friend that
- 1:06:04did the panty raid comes in. He's like, dude, look at our
- 1:06:06score. And he's like, no, dude, look,
- 1:06:08there's a hole in there and there was a broom down there.
- 1:06:10And they just keep taking turns looking in the hole.
- 1:06:12No. One of them's gonna get it.
- 1:06:13Yeah, this is the right one. It's TC.
- 1:06:16He gets one right through the eye.
- 1:06:17And then he like, freaks out, stands up, and then ends up
- 1:06:20running into the wall which pushes it all the rest of the
- 1:06:23way through. Yep.
- 1:06:24So Ronnie is by Frank's cabin and he finds Matilda outside
- 1:06:28saying your ass stinks and then he comes inside and finds Frank
- 1:06:33dead. Bella comes back from the
- 1:06:35canteen alone and fucking litters.
- 1:06:37Fuck you, Bella. Yeah, Bella's a little shit.
- 1:06:40They're all shits, but you know, that was shitty.
- 1:06:43She comes in, she finds all of her stuff has been like, thrown
- 1:06:46asunder. It's her.
- 1:06:46Candy. She's got that candy sash.
- 1:06:48She's like God damn it, he fucking take the shit big.
- 1:06:50Candy sash. Why does she need to go to the
- 1:06:52canteen? You are the canteen, Bella.
- 1:06:55I think she's sneaking them back to her candy stash.
- 1:06:59She she's pissed, but she's like fucking I'm going to go chill on
- 1:07:01the bunk bed. And she gets in her bunk and
- 1:07:04then looks up and there's spikes on the top bunk.
- 1:07:07And then we see the camera pan up and the killer is standing up
- 1:07:11in the rafters up top jumps, right?
- 1:07:14That's a good kill. It's a reverse bed of nails.
- 1:07:16Yeah, that was really cool. So everyone is sent to their
- 1:07:20cabins early because they found TC dead.
- 1:07:23Karen and Marie get to their cabin and find Bella and Karen
- 1:07:27just like loses her mind so she runs out.
- 1:07:31She's blaming Allen. Marie tells Ronnie that Karen
- 1:07:34ran out and so Michael over here is that he's like, we go to go
- 1:07:37find her and then Ronnie is like, it's Angela and Marie is
- 1:07:43like no, it's Alan and. Then Ricky shows.
- 1:07:46Yeah, when Ricky is here, he says he's got a call.
- 1:07:50He got a call from Sheriff Jerry and Sheriff Jerry was like, I
- 1:07:52never called you. Yeah, and he's like, all right,
- 1:07:54somebody wants you here, obviously.
- 1:07:56Duh. Yeah, Sheriff Jerry.
- 1:07:59So Karen finds Randy and Linda, who are both semi conscious,
- 1:08:02somehow haven't bled out yet. Yeah, and then she ends up
- 1:08:06running straight into the killer and passes out.
- 1:08:09Yeah, Killer grabs Karen and we see she's tied up in the gym
- 1:08:14when she's woken up and she's tied to the basketball goal and
- 1:08:19the killer goes and flips the switch, which gets the
- 1:08:21basketball goal to like fold up into the ceiling, which is gonna
- 1:08:25hang her cuz she's got a noose tied around her neck.
- 1:08:28But Michael comes in at the last second and stops in freezer.
- 1:08:32I will say I've had the key to lift one of these before in a
- 1:08:36previous job and it it's not like maybe in the 80s it was
- 1:08:41different because maybe it was not as secure safety measures.
- 1:08:43But it is the 2000s here. That's true.
- 1:08:47I'm still in the mindset of the first sleepway camp.
- 1:08:50But like you have to hold the key and it's a tiny little key,
- 1:08:53so it's not easy to hold and it hurts your hand and it takes
- 1:08:56forever and like you have. To hold it the entire time.
- 1:08:58Yes, that's and it's a lot of like pressure that you have to
- 1:09:01put on it. That's weird.
- 1:09:03Why would they make that so hard?
- 1:09:04I assume a safety feature, but yeah, so the fact that the
- 1:09:08killer was like holding it steady until somebody came in is
- 1:09:12already kind of impressive. Yeah, and the cop is there too
- 1:09:15and comes in and you know that that little was suspicious.
- 1:09:20So Michael grabs him out and says I'm going to go take care
- 1:09:23of Ellen and he finds him at his frog spot and starts beating.
- 1:09:29Oh my God, I forgot about this. Yeah.
- 1:09:31You can see it bending on his back and you can also hear that.
- 1:09:36You can hear the air escaping. I forgot about that man I I
- 1:09:43can't believe you didn't have them redo that scene of all of
- 1:09:46them that actually it's. Like nobody will notice but I
- 1:09:49guess cuz we have a dog who kills the squeakers in your toys
- 1:09:52immediately. We are so finely attuned to the
- 1:09:55sound. That right there, I think that
- 1:09:57was one of those things. It took the wind.
- 1:09:58This is a super mean scene, but it took the wind out of it
- 1:10:01because of that. I wish that that we would have
- 1:10:03had something like that in this movie.
- 1:10:05For all the other scenes where it's like something so obviously
- 1:10:08fake or bad that like, OK I can, I can watch this, not I feel
- 1:10:12depressed. So Ronnie finds Alan like half
- 1:10:17dead and he was like it was Michael.
- 1:10:20And he points over to where Michael is and then Sheriff
- 1:10:22Jerry walks out and says kids can be so mean and then starts
- 1:10:28taking off the facial prosthetics and wouldn't you
- 1:10:31know, it's Angelo. And we see Michael has been
- 1:10:38skinned. Fantastic.
- 1:10:41Yeah, like eyelids and all. Thank you.
- 1:10:43Thank you for doing that. Yeah.
- 1:10:46And it just ends there. Like, I mean, like the skinned
- 1:10:49and they're just kind of there and they're just.
- 1:10:51And. We do get a Felissa Rose face.
- 1:10:54Yeah, and you get Ricky. He just goes Angela.
- 1:11:01And we get and we get Ronnie. Oh my God.
- 1:11:05Yeah, yeah. It's just like the ending to the
- 1:11:07first I. Was going to say, I think that's
- 1:11:09what they were going for. They were going for a big shock
- 1:11:11ending right there. Then we get to an end credit
- 1:11:14scene where we see a car is pulled over on the side of the
- 1:11:19road up on a Jack. A cop comes to help and the
- 1:11:23woman who is very like Peggy Bundy coded in the moment.
- 1:11:29Could just be the jersey in her also.
- 1:11:32This is Jersey's spoitation. And the cop like, gets down
- 1:11:36there and says you're going to need like a new brake line, this
- 1:11:39one's leaking and it's Angela, of course, and she kicks out the
- 1:11:46Jack and busts, the cop said. Yeah, I think her DVD ends too
- 1:11:50soon because it cuts like, right as soon as Andrew goes.
- 1:11:54It's just like I I feel like there's like I if I remember, I
- 1:11:58feel like we've seen this before.
- 1:11:59Like she gets his uniform and you remember Ricky being a part
- 1:12:02of it too. Where I remember Ricky being and
- 1:12:04the part of it. So the first time we watched
- 1:12:06this, we actually rented it from Hastings.
- 1:12:08Really. Yeah.
- 1:12:10So granted, that was obviously a while ago since I'm referencing
- 1:12:15Hastings, but. Yeah, I'm gonna look this up.
- 1:12:18I'm gonna look up because. I looked it up on IMDb, it
- 1:12:20didn't say anything beyond what we saw.
- 1:12:23Really. Yeah, hold on.
- 1:12:24Let me go to Wikipedia. She murders him by dropping car
- 1:12:30on his head and still is close to become the new sheriff.
- 1:12:32OK, Yeah. So I guess Ricky isn't involved.
- 1:12:34OK. All right.
- 1:12:37OK. So yeah, that's how the movie
- 1:12:38ends. All right, I'm going to keep it
- 1:12:40a 4.5 because honestly, like if it had more fun moments, like I
- 1:12:47would be all for this, but it just, it's so mean and heavy the
- 1:12:51entire time that it's just it's rough.
- 1:12:54Yeah, I agree. I think they needed to sprinkle
- 1:12:57some of the killings. The killings are backwarded and
- 1:13:01they needed to like, sprinkle it more.
- 1:13:03Like we need to see these kids, like, do something mean and then
- 1:13:06get their shit because we get a little bit of that in the first
- 1:13:09one. Well, yeah, we get a little bit
- 1:13:10of that with this one with Mickey, and then you get the
- 1:13:12Stoner kid. But then everybody else just
- 1:13:14continues to be fucking assholes throughout and it's just like
- 1:13:17getting progressively worse and worse.
- 1:13:20Yeah, I think it would have been better to do that.
- 1:13:24I'm keeping mine at six though. I agree it it this is a hard
- 1:13:28watch. Talia was very active during
- 1:13:31this movie. She was very playful.
- 1:13:34She was wanting to play with us. She was trying to do her barking
- 1:13:37game with us. She was feeling it.
- 1:13:39Yeah, I think she sensed tell me it was.
- 1:13:41And she was like, I would never be that mean.
- 1:13:42I mean, she can be tough, but she's not mean.
- 1:13:46Yeah. So I think Talia.
- 1:13:50I think she'd give it a five. Yeah, cuz she's not mean and she
- 1:13:53doesn't like the mean. Yeah, she recognized that she
- 1:13:55had to make some of the fun for us.
- 1:13:57Yeah. Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:14:00Man, this is a tough one. I think Ronnie, because Ronnie
- 1:14:09wants Frank to get the rats and Zoe gets the mice around here.
- 1:14:14Not real mice. That her toy mice.
- 1:14:16Yeah. And she, she respects that.
- 1:14:18And she she figured that, you know, her and Ronnie would be
- 1:14:21good friends. She probably thought that Frank
- 1:14:25was the killer's favorite person.
- 1:14:26Like, oh, the killer is giving Frank all of the meat.
- 1:14:30I know that's like the highest honor.
- 1:14:33OK, so Ronnie. Ronnie the Rat.
- 1:14:38Ronnie the Rat? Yeah.
- 1:14:41OK, dream sequel. Oh boy, I mean there's there's a
- 1:14:48chance there's another one could be made apparently, like on the
- 1:14:52website they said that would a 5 or 6 happen and the dude's like
- 1:14:57it's up to you if there's interest I.
- 1:15:00Mean there's interest, baby, there is interest I We
- 1:15:03definitely need Felissa Rose back she's active, she's
- 1:15:05working, she can. She's doing all kinds of stuff.
- 1:15:07Yeah, she will. She will be on board.
- 1:15:09And we need her to get Jonathan Tearson on board.
- 1:15:12Yeah, he's the last link. I think she's got everybody else
- 1:15:15from the original doing the cons.
- 1:15:17So I think if we get the next one, we could get Judy back,
- 1:15:22because she's back doing that stuff.
- 1:15:23You can get Meg. Oh, yeah, you're right.
- 1:15:27All right. Meg died too.
- 1:15:30All right. Well, Ronnie, you can get Paul.
- 1:15:33Yeah. Paul didn't die, I don't think.
- 1:15:35No, Yeah, yeah, it is very, very.
- 1:15:37He's definitely dead. God.
- 1:15:39Damn it, Angela killed all the good people.
- 1:15:43Who else could you bring back? From there, it's fine, let's
- 1:15:45just work on the story and then we'll figure out the rest.
- 1:15:47OK, OK, well it's got to be another camp situation so it's
- 1:15:54got to be a time jump. So I.
- 1:15:58Think it. Let's bring it modern day.
- 1:15:59Let's bring it to the Twenty 20s.
- 1:16:01I would really love it if we did you know how like in 21 Jump St.
- 1:16:05Channing Tatum, like when they go back to school, he's like,
- 1:16:07all right, you got to be a real asshole to be cool.
- 1:16:10I would love it if Angela and then all the cool kids are
- 1:16:13actually like really open minded, really kind and
- 1:16:16everything. I would love it if Angela like
- 1:16:17came back and she keeps getting into situations where she thinks
- 1:16:20bullying is happening, but it like then some other kid steps
- 1:16:23up and is like, hey, that's not cool for XYZ reason.
- 1:16:26Oh man. And then she finds like there is
- 1:16:28cyber bullying or something happening.
- 1:16:30That's the thing, I think it's either got to be cyber bullying.
- 1:16:33I think that I was thinking you could turn it more into like a
- 1:16:35comedic type thing. Like she goes there and she's
- 1:16:39like really looking forward to like killing boys, but nobody's
- 1:16:42being bullied because everybody is like avoiding like actual
- 1:16:47human connection. So she's like manufacturing ways
- 1:16:51to like manufacturing reasons to kill these people.
- 1:16:55Like, all right, that's bullying.
- 1:16:56And it's like the lightest thing accidentally, like shoulder
- 1:17:00checking a kid when they're like walking and texting at the same
- 1:17:03time. Or maybe she like does like an
- 1:17:06AI deep fake of like some of the kids to like create beliefs.
- 1:17:11That's a good one, but the kids would be wise about it.
- 1:17:13Oh, it's got 6 fingers. There are some, unfortunately,
- 1:17:16that are getting better. Yeah, it's true, but the adults
- 1:17:20are the ones that get fooled by that.
- 1:17:22But that would actually track for her character.
- 1:17:23She's like, look, it's so real. It's totally him.
- 1:17:27I think it could be fun. There's potential there.
- 1:17:28I think that's true. Yeah.
- 1:17:30I like that idea. I think it'd be fun.
- 1:17:32What's up? What's good?
- 1:17:33We'll talk. Listen.
- 1:17:34Yeah, we'll talk a listen in October.
- 1:17:36She'll be there. Be like, listen.
- 1:17:37We got ideas. We got treatment.
- 1:17:41Yeah. All right.
- 1:17:42Tagline. Your ass stinks, but it doesn't
- 1:17:45have to. But it should.
- 1:17:48But it doesn't have to. I like that actually.
- 1:17:51But it it sounds very like the more you know, yeah.
- 1:17:57OK, I think we can rock that. OK.
- 1:17:59All right. OK.
- 1:18:01So I guess it's time for reviews.
- 1:18:03OK, let's let's hear it. Most of most people probably
- 1:18:06haven't actually seen this movie, if you know.
- 1:18:10Yeah, I think it's just so I did in advance pool to just to be.
- 1:18:15Just to get a couple. Yeah, just to make sure that we
- 1:18:18had some. So I'll start off with the
- 1:18:19negative. It's 4 outs in April 2012.
- 1:18:26This one was one I was really looking forward to seeing.
- 1:18:28It felt like it took years for it to be made and released, so
- 1:18:31when it was available to purchase I bought it at full
- 1:18:33price not knowing what a disappointment it would be.
- 1:18:36The plot follows the basic kids are at a camp when a bunch of
- 1:18:39murders occur. Storyline fans of the original
- 1:18:42know the back story evangelist so I won't go into that, but if
- 1:18:45you don't it's probably a good idea to familiarize with the
- 1:18:47film. Sequel does something I hate
- 1:18:50which is it completely ignores Safeway camp two and three.
- 1:18:53We are supposed to forget those late 80s sequels which involved
- 1:18:56Angela escaping and becoming a counsellor killing a bunch of
- 1:18:59teenagers by not bringing up the incidents that took place in
- 1:19:02these movies with me a little confused but I'll move on from
- 1:19:05that. Negative.
- 1:19:06The next problem I have with this is the lead character Alan.
- 1:19:10What an annoying human being. He bullies other kids and then
- 1:19:14whines like a baby when he gets bullied or other kid counsellors
- 1:19:17tell him to stop. The constant whining, screaming
- 1:19:20and cursing was driving me nuts by the time or by the 20 minute
- 1:19:24mark. Now I love the fact that Ricky
- 1:19:26and the original cuss like no other, but it's way overdone in
- 1:19:30this by Allen and the acting by pretty much everyone involved is
- 1:19:33some of the worst I've seen since Troll 2.
- 1:19:37What I found in this movie after seeing the original was that a
- 1:19:39lot of these new characters emulated characters from the
- 1:19:42original. There's Alan, who is supposed to
- 1:19:44be a mix of Angela and Ricky. A character named I know Right,
- 1:19:49acts a lot like a shy Angela. There's even a nasty chef who
- 1:19:52gets scalded by boiling boiling water.
- 1:19:56There is Greece, my man, that is not boiling water.
- 1:19:59I'm also wondering if they got peedy confused with pee pee.
- 1:20:02No, there is a character if you go through the list.
- 1:20:04That's called Pee Pee I. Think I remember her.
- 1:20:06She's the one that's sitting on her bed like reading.
- 1:20:09Yeah, yeah. Other cons are the music which
- 1:20:13is mostly terrible and that's no suspenseful effect to the scene
- 1:20:17like the original score did and juvenile riding is just annoying
- 1:20:21to sit through. Some of the things the teens say
- 1:20:23and do is supposed to be funny but just leaves a bad taste in
- 1:20:25the viewer's mouth, especially when you same joke as repeated
- 1:20:28over and over again. I've been down on returning to
- 1:20:32Sleepway camp so far and rightfully so it isn't very good
- 1:20:34but the ending definitely saves it from being a total wet down.
- 1:20:37The last half hours of jam packed with murder and mayhem
- 1:20:40and some of the gore is pretty shocking and well done.
- 1:20:43Also like the added mystery of trying to find out who the
- 1:20:46killer is. And I love seeing some of the
- 1:20:48original cast return like Ricky, Ronnie and cameo by Flissa Rose.
- 1:20:53Overall this movie is all over the place.
- 1:20:55It's almost as if Return to Sleepway Camp it has an identity
- 1:20:57crisis. The first Sleepway Camp was
- 1:20:59scary 2 and 3 funny. This one tries to be a bit of
- 1:21:02both except for a good 30 minutes of scares.
- 1:21:04Doesn't do well at either. It's not a cameo by Felissa Rose
- 1:21:08like she is in the prosthetic makeup Asher of Cherry.
- 1:21:10Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 1:21:11She's in the movie throughout the entire time.
- 1:21:14Yeah. She respects on her name.
- 1:21:15She's a workhorse. They did a good job with her
- 1:21:17too, man. Yeah, I never would have guessed
- 1:21:19until I. Saw.
- 1:21:20No, I remember being surprised. I did too.
- 1:21:23I didn't have any context for the first sleepaway camp when we
- 1:21:26watched this, but I do still remember being surprised.
- 1:21:31You've never seen the first one. No, I saw them all out of order.
- 1:21:35Oh wow. Remember the first one I saw was
- 1:21:37sleepaway camp too. Yeah, I just thought so.
- 1:21:41I guess that that's got to be the true for me too, because
- 1:21:43I've watched this whole series along with you.
- 1:21:45Yeah. So I watched this first and
- 1:21:47then. Wow.
- 1:21:48OK, Yeah, well, weird. OK, but but you know, this
- 1:21:54person has some good points I guess.
- 1:21:56Some good points, but also like. Yeah.
- 1:22:01Some of them are like, listen, there's a lot to harp on in this
- 1:22:03movie, don't get me wrong, but it does feel like nitpicks at
- 1:22:06some points. Yeah, I just, I, I don't think
- 1:22:11this movie has any comedy to it. No, personally, I just, I don't
- 1:22:14see that at all. And yeah, I don't know, like I
- 1:22:19get the scares. It's, it's not exactly a scary
- 1:22:23movie either, but it does some good killing, at least in the
- 1:22:25final bit. I agree with that part right
- 1:22:27there. Yeah, it would be nice if it's
- 1:22:29spread it out more like in the first one.
- 1:22:31Yeah, I agree. All right, let's move on over to
- 1:22:34the positive. Yes, I would love to hear from
- 1:22:35somebody who adores this movie. So it's a nine on 10 feud in
- 1:22:402011. This movie is brilliant.
- 1:22:42When I first watched it, I thought it actually was an 80s
- 1:22:45movie because it looked and it's exactly like that.
- 1:22:47All right, so I'm not weird for forgetting it was 2003.
- 1:22:50I had to double and triple check that this was 2008.
- 1:22:54I was really surprised when I came here and saw a relatively
- 1:22:57low rating and bad reviews. OK, I don't mind if a person
- 1:23:00gives a 5. I can see why some people might
- 1:23:03mightn't like it that much. But who on earth is giving it
- 1:23:07lower than fives? Jesse.
- 1:23:09Oh. No, it's it's sold out.
- 1:23:12It's hard to believe that they don't seem like fans of the
- 1:23:15original if that's their attitude, as this is very close
- 1:23:18to the original in a lot of ways and better than it in some.
- 1:23:21I have to admit I hated the fart scene at the beginning of the
- 1:23:24movie as well as many others. I also thought there were too
- 1:23:27many shots of boys in states of undress and the whole thing is
- 1:23:31quite campy. I totally get that the fat kid
- 1:23:33with the frogs is very weird. It makes things a bit
- 1:23:35uncomfortable and outrageous at times.
- 1:23:37It's called originality. It's called being different.
- 1:23:41It's viewing something new that you didn't see tons of times
- 1:23:44before. The fat kid is like a
- 1:23:46monstrosity, like some weird fuck, which is what horror
- 1:23:49movies are all about. Dude, you're not.
- 1:23:52You're kind of. You're a bullying.
- 1:23:54Dude, we're getting bullying in the reviews.
- 1:23:55Even that's fucked up. I think that as the movie wore
- 1:24:00on, the fat kid scenes got better.
- 1:24:02You know, you know, this man watched Hunchback and Notre Dame
- 1:24:06and sided with the creator. This guy.
- 1:24:09With the back. Look at that bag.
- 1:24:11Now you're gonna have a back. Fucking back.
- 1:24:14It's weird. It's a monstrosity.
- 1:24:16I love it. Again, if this is all not your
- 1:24:20cup of tea, fine, but it's certainly not a bad movie
- 1:24:22whatever you way you look at it. But those scenes were amazing.
- 1:24:26I don't like. I don't think anyone will have
- 1:24:28qualms about these. One of them dragged the belittle
- 1:24:31and that's it. The characters weren't overly
- 1:24:33mean to each other. Fuck off.
- 1:24:36Sure sure. Things got very heated at times.
- 1:24:39This is how the world works sometimes, and children can be
- 1:24:42very cruel to each other. Was was this reviewer, Michael?
- 1:24:46I think it was. That reviewer, Michael.
- 1:24:50Look, some of us might not have skin, you know?
- 1:24:53But monstrosities could be funny.
- 1:24:55Yeah, it could be. Funny, it could be a new novel.
- 1:24:58I was hot when I had skin. Yeah, I know.
- 1:25:00It's like this way. I don't like boys in various
- 1:25:02states of undress. Yeah, it's this is this is a
- 1:25:04various state of undress. Even if it's pushing credibility
- 1:25:09at times, I was able to believe in all of the characters actions
- 1:25:12in the movie. This is how horror movies were
- 1:25:14best. The music and atmosphere created
- 1:25:16are top notch. Maybe the plot could have been
- 1:25:18done a bit better with more comprehensive explanations for
- 1:25:21things and better mysteries surrounding who was doing
- 1:25:24things. I can certainly see how the
- 1:25:26movie might have had more potential, but for some reason
- 1:25:29the movie really just lured me into it in a way that's hard to
- 1:25:32explain. Maybe it's just the mood I was
- 1:25:34in, but it really got my imagination flying and had me in
- 1:25:37a lot of suspense about what was going to happen next.
- 1:25:40I'm glad this guy had a good time with it.
- 1:25:42Some real hot takes there. I think maybe he had a good time
- 1:25:46because he's a bully. I think so too.
- 1:25:48Oh man, this is cool. He's like, this is really cool.
- 1:25:51The way they make fun of the fat kid.
- 1:25:52It's one of yes, this guy is like, man, I fucking miss high
- 1:25:56school. You better hope Angela Baker
- 1:25:57doesn't read that review, dude. Yeah, yeah, you're dead.
- 1:26:01I mean that was 20 or. 11 Yeah, I could.
- 1:26:04Beat that already. That was a while back, All
- 1:26:06right. We need to start wrapping this
- 1:26:07thing up because it's getting crazy out there.
- 1:26:09Animals are losing their minds, so that's the end of return to
- 1:26:12sleep. Like who did you relate to?
- 1:26:15God, we didn't do that. We didn't do that.
- 1:26:16Who do I fucking relate to in this movie?
- 1:26:18I relate to Ronnie because I would try and be a mediator here
- 1:26:21and like get everybody that chilled the fuck out.
- 1:26:24I related to the girl who just read her book and tried to stay
- 1:26:27out of any kind of trouble. All right, so we're good people.
- 1:26:31That's good to know. OK, so that's it for a return to
- 1:26:34sleep away camp next week we're going to talk about raw French
- 1:26:40film. Vegetarian goes to vet school
- 1:26:42and becomes a non vegetarian. I'm excited for it.
- 1:26:45I've been wanting to cover it for a while.
- 1:26:47Yeah, Oh my God, me too. All right, You all can hear this
- 1:26:50shit. I'm sure we got a fucking
- 1:26:52argument going out there erupting between the cats.
- 1:26:54We already talked about our Patreon and where to find it,
- 1:26:56but we want to shout out our bubbies over there.
