Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Cardinals Fans Want John Mozeliak & Oli Marmol Both Gone
Transcript
- 0:00I did a couple Twitter polls. I still call it Twitter.
- 0:04I know it's X, but I did a couple polls end of last week
- 0:09and I was pretty surprised. I don't want to say shocked by
- 0:15one of the results. So basically let me find the
- 0:17polls here so I can show them to you.
- 0:21So the first one I did, this was this was five days ago.
- 0:26Simple question. All right, Here we go.
- 0:29And this was brought up on the live stream last week.
- 0:33So there's the question right there.
- 0:35Simple question because it was brought up on the live stream
- 0:38yesterday. Do you want our Ali Marmol back
- 0:43as Cardinals manager next season?
- 0:45OK, yes. You want Ali back 17%.
- 0:49No, 83%. I was surprised at the
- 0:54percentages of that question. I knew it would be more than 50%
- 0:59of folks not wanting Ollie back. And by the way, these Twitter
- 1:03polls, they're not official, they're not scientific, they're
- 1:07not Gallup polls. But 83% of you all, and this was
- 1:1312119 votes, 83% of you all don't want Ollie Marmol back.
- 1:21I was surprised by that. I didn't think the percentages
- 1:24would be that great. That was the type of number I
- 1:27expected more from a poll about John Mosaic.
- 1:30And so after I did that poll, I did the poll about John Mosaic.
- 1:34So here you go. This one got 1014 votes.
- 1:38OK, here we go. OK, now MO, do you want John
- 1:42Mosaic to be the Cardinals top baseball decision maker in 2025
- 1:47next season? And I put no to MO, yes to MO,
- 1:5193% of you guys, 93% want MO to go.
- 1:57Even that I feel like was a little more, was a little higher
- 2:03than I expected. I knew it was going to be bad.
- 2:05I knew it was going to be over, let's say 75%.
- 2:07But man, 93% of you want MO to go.
- 2:12I guess that's not as big of a shock to me or a surprise as the
- 2:17Ollie one. I'm not, I'm not an Ollie
- 2:21fanboy. I feel like I'm pretty fair with
- 2:23Ollie. I don't think by any means that
- 2:26Ali is even close to the biggest problem for the Cardinals this
- 2:31year. The last couple years I don't
- 2:32necessarily think he's been a great asset, but there's bigger
- 2:37fish to fry and to me it's more on ownership.
- 2:41John Mosaic. So I'm fine if the Cardinals
- 2:44move on from Alimar Mole. I guess I was surprised though
- 2:48that 83% of you want Ali to be gone.
- 2:52I thought that would be the number that's more like for John
- 2:56Mozelock. What do you guys think?
- 2:58All right, jump in, get your comments in here and we'll get
- 3:03going here. Let's see, Michael Smoot says
- 3:07fire Ollie and grab Skip before the Reds do.
- 3:11How about that Skip Schumacher? It seemed like last week when
- 3:16Skip bloody mouth. F that.
- 3:20I respect this guy too much. Talking about Shohei Otani,
- 3:23we're going to pitch to this guy, Shohei Otani with a chance
- 3:26to go for the the 5050 season. I like that people like that.
- 3:31People love Skip and the fact that basically you have Ali
- 3:34Marmol right now who's not popular and you always want the
- 3:38guy who's not here. Even though it's Skip Schumacher
- 3:40who was here as a player on the coaching staff, he does kind of
- 3:45seem like the one that got away from a managerial perspective.
- 3:50Let's see, Wootage would it JD 4.
- 3:54Of course they want both gone. After seeing what SHIELD has
- 3:57done with the Padres again, I wasn't, I wasn't surprised.
- 4:02I knew I knew Cardinal fans, especially on X, we're going to
- 4:06want both gone. I was surprised by the
- 4:08percentages, especially with Ollie.
- 4:11This live stream brought to you by Where's That boom?
- 4:17It's hard because I'm opposite. I don't know how to do it.
- 4:22Triad Bank, There we go. Brought to you by Triad Bank.
- 4:25Saint Louis lawn care, Saint Louis equipment corner butcher
- 4:27and chophouse in Fenton. So I was at the game Friday and
- 4:32look, the Cardinals are playing better.
- 4:34It's all good. What are they, 80 and 77?
- 4:37So what if they if they won out, Cardinals could win 85 games,
- 4:45which I think it's fair to say is, is right about or a little
- 4:48bit higher. I don't think they're going to
- 4:50win out, but let's say they finish 838482.
- 4:54It's it's kind of what everybody thought they would be before the
- 4:58season, All the projections. I, I think most people didn't
- 5:03think the Brewers were going to be this good and, and kind of
- 5:07run away with the National League Central.
- 5:09What do you guys think about that?
- 5:11Let's check on some. First of all, I'll get to the
- 5:14standings in a second, but I think this is interesting too as
- 5:18we get close to the end of the season here, just to kind of
- 5:22breakdown what happened with the Cardinals.
- 5:26OK, let's let's start with pitching.
- 5:28I was looking at this earlier, so I'm here on MLB.com.
- 5:32I'm just looking at basic stats, folks.
- 5:34I'm not, I'm not trying to get super intricate with all this.
- 5:39So let's just look at, let's just look at ERA overall.
- 5:45OK, ERA, Let's see overall team pitching staff.
- 5:53OK Mariners, Braves best in baseball 3.51.
- 5:57The Cardinals are 17th in baseball 4.04 ERA, essentially
- 6:05tied with the Red Sox and San Francisco Giants.
- 6:09I mean you can't be more right in the middle, middle of the
- 6:14pack pitching wise ERA then where the Cardinals are right
- 6:17now. 4.04 ERA, 17th best out of as we know the the 30 teams and
- 6:25tied with a couple other teams, Red Sox and Giants.
- 6:29OK, but let's go to starter and reliever.
- 6:35First of all, I think most people thought the Cardinals
- 6:39bullpen was going to be pretty Dang good this year when we did
- 6:42our our season preview show on low hanging fruit, Brennan
- 6:46Schaefer and I when we used to do that show and we will do a
- 6:48season ending show, I promise you.
- 6:50I said I think the Cardinals are going to have a top 10 bullpen.
- 6:54So here they are. And we're just looking at ERA.
- 6:57There's a lot of different numbers you can go to.
- 6:59I'm trying to keep it simple because I'm a simpleton.
- 7:02Cardinals 3.62 bullpen ERA 6th best in all of baseball.
- 7:08Guardians 1. Brewers, Braves, Tigers Yankees
- 7:12Cardinals 6th Dodgers 7th, Astros 8th, Rays 9th, Mariners
- 7:1810th. So basically, and look, Halsey's
- 7:19been unbelievable. You can't ask for much more at
- 7:24all from the Cardinals bullpen. I think that's fair to say.
- 7:27Would you guys agree? You should, you should agree.
- 7:316th best bullpen in baseball ERA wise, any way you slice it.
- 7:35Top 10 bullpen, whatever it is. Let's go to starters though.
- 7:38Starters so I said what the Cardinals team ERA pitching wise
- 7:42was 17th 4.04 their starting staff ERA 4.3520 second best in
- 7:51baseball. OK, so we're talking the bottom
- 7:55quartile that's a fun word bottom quartile in baseball and
- 8:01so when when folks are are evaluating what happened this
- 8:04season, look the offense is going to be the number one
- 8:07culprit and we'll get to that in a second.
- 8:08But I do think when folks are saying and I've I've seen some
- 8:12of this online what not and I get comments on on YouTube and
- 8:16all that when I say when I see I should say folks saying look
- 8:21John Mozelock with the with the pitching staff this year pretty
- 8:24much worked. I don't think that's I don't
- 8:26think that's 100% fair at all. Look, it's more this year on the
- 8:31players and and the offense. So that's on the offensive
- 8:35coaching staff as well. But if you're let me just double
- 8:39check it so I have the right number.
- 8:40If you're 20 seconds in starting staff ERA, right, 4.35.
- 8:48Let's go, let's go innings just to to give another perspective
- 8:53here. OK, innings Cardinals better.
- 8:56They're 8th in baseball, 851 and 2/3 innings.
- 9:00And before the season, John Mosaic said a reason they were
- 9:02getting some of these guys, Gray Lynn, Kyle Gibson, they wanted
- 9:05to eat up innings. They did that 8th best in
- 9:09baseball in innings, but we want quality innings.
- 9:13Let's go to strikeouts. This is starting staff
- 9:16strikeouts. Cardinals 13th in baseball
- 9:20strikeouts with 768. So not terrible.
- 9:25Kind of middle of the pack right there.
- 9:28I'm not going to go through all these different stats and all
- 9:32that, but I, I don't think it's fair to say that that all those
- 9:36moves worked out OK. You like the innings, you don't
- 9:40love the quality of innings. And look, before the season
- 9:44started, we talked about this every day on the radio and most
- 9:48people thought the Cardinals are going to get Sonny Gray,
- 9:51specifically Sonny Gray, which they did.
- 9:53They were going to hopefully trade for a higher end front of
- 9:57the rotation starter. They did not do that.
- 10:00And then they were going to get somebody from that final bucket
- 10:03and we joked that was the Michael Walker bucket or Lance
- 10:06Lynn bucket or Kyle Gibson bucket, whatever it is, instead
- 10:09of getting one guy from that bucket.
- 10:10And, and I don't think fans, media would have been
- 10:13complaining if they got just Kyle Gibson or just Lance Lynn.
- 10:17It's the fact that they got both of them and didn't go and go for
- 10:23a higher tier of pitcher. I know it's, I know it's hard to
- 10:28get those guys. Dylan Cease was moved.
- 10:31All I'm all I'm saying is before the season started, I don't
- 10:35think anybody was very high on this Cardinals rotation.
- 10:38And I don't remember what I project them to be.
- 10:40I think I said middle of the pack, but it could be in the
- 10:4420s. And I'll go back when the season
- 10:46ends. I'll go back to that season
- 10:47preview episode and I'll I'll splice in exactly what we said.
- 10:51But I don't remember anybody thinking this was going to be a
- 10:54top ten staff. I don't remember anybody
- 10:56thinking this starting staff was going to be more than middle of
- 10:59the pack. So you kind of got what you went
- 11:03out and signed innings guys, not big, not big time strikeouts
- 11:09guys, not super quality innings, older dudes.
- 11:14And you have the 22nd best starting staff ERA and baseball.
- 11:17Now a lot of that has to do with, I mean, Miles Michaelis
- 11:20did not have a good year and there's positives.
- 11:23Look, Sonny Gray was good. Andre Palante, I think
- 11:25everybody's very excited for Andre Palante.
- 11:28He he pitched the game on Sunday that I was at versus the
- 11:31Cleveland Guardians. So I want to hear your comments
- 11:35on that. Let's go to the offense before I
- 11:38get to your comments, folks. So let's just go again, we're
- 11:43going big picture stats here. We'll go OPS for the offense.
- 11:46So Cardinals 20th in baseball, OPS with 698, twentieth in
- 11:55baseball. So we're talking bottom third.
- 11:58Let's go OBPOBP, Cardinals 15th right there, right there, middle
- 12:05of the pack, A310 OBP. Let's go slug.
- 12:10I'm not going to do all these, but just just some some bigger
- 12:13catch all stats 21st in baseball and slug 388 bottom third in
- 12:19baseball, not good. Can't slug OK at getting on base
- 12:24overall, not a good offense. Bottom third offense in all of
- 12:30baseball. And, and that's, that's the
- 12:32story of the season, folks, even though I think the Cardinals
- 12:35should have, should have tried to shoot higher for the starting
- 12:39rotation. If if you had the rotation the
- 12:43way it is, if you had the bullpen the way it is, top 10
- 12:46bullpen, 6th best bullpen, whatever it is.
- 12:48If this was a top ten offense, which I think was very fair to,
- 12:55to wonder if this offense could be that.
- 12:56And that doesn't mean it has to be.
- 12:58I mean, it could be whatever, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, whatever,
- 13:01if you just had a better offense all of a sudden.
- 13:04So here's a team that probably finishes the year, let's say 83
- 13:07wins. Does that get you to 8788 wins?
- 13:11What does it take right now to make the playoffs?
- 13:14Let's check that. Let's check that folks.
- 13:18Efforting. Here we go.
- 13:20So here's the wild card standings.
- 13:23Obviously you have division leaders, Dodgers, Phillies,
- 13:27Brewers, wild card. Padres 91 wins, Mets 87 wins,
- 13:34Diamondbacks 87 wins already. Braves have 86.
- 13:37So what it's going to take probably is it fair to say 8889
- 13:46wins, 88 or 89 wins to get a wild card?
- 13:50Most likely. We'll see what happens.
- 13:52And that number is higher than I think most people thought.
- 13:54Don't you think? You probably thought it was
- 13:55around 85. So I don't know, maybe maybe
- 13:59even with a top ten offense does a top ten offense and it it's
- 14:04not just look, it's not just I was giving you OPS.
- 14:06We know what this team is runners in scoring position.
- 14:09It's it's timely hitting. That's where the Cardinals were
- 14:12really, really bad. Let's see if I can actually find
- 14:18that specific stat. I don't know if they have that
- 14:22with with MLB. Let's see.
- 14:27Let's see here. I'm trying to find a split for
- 14:29you guys. I don't want this to be, I don't
- 14:34want this to be too boring of me searching for stats anyway.
- 14:39I don't know what it is. We all know that the Cardinals
- 14:41with runners in scoring position has been really, really bad.
- 14:44That's the story. It's not just the offense
- 14:46overall, it's runners in scoring position, timely hitting.
- 14:50Cardinals have been terrible at that.
- 14:52All right, 16 minutes in, what do you guys think of everything
- 14:55that I said? And if you're just jumping in,
- 14:57we got 63 people watching. Thank you for that.
- 15:01The reason I did this live stream is because I was
- 15:04surprised by the numbers again, of, of the polls on Twitter of
- 15:11how many of you want Ollie and John Mozelock to go at such a
- 15:17high percentage. I knew, I knew the numbers were
- 15:19going to be, yes, we want Moe and Ollie to go.
- 15:22But again, if you're just joining us, 83% of you want
- 15:28Ollie Marmol going. That was higher than I thought.
- 15:31And then 93% of you want MO Gon, 93% and I guess that's a little
- 15:40higher. That's a little higher than I
- 15:42thought. I mean, that's hell.
- 15:44That's Dang near unanimous. Let's be honest, 93% might as
- 15:48well be 100. OK, let's jump in the chat here
- 15:52and hear from you guys. Also, what did you think of
- 15:55Wilson Contreras comments? I liked them call out the front
- 16:01office a little bit. Let's let's be hungry to own the
- 16:04central. Also Wilson Contreras.
- 16:07I'm a big fan of his, but he also needs to stay on the field.
- 16:10Let's be real about it. Let's be real about that.
- 16:13Let's check Wilson Contreras last couple years Wilson
- 16:16Contreras. So let's see, 2023 he played 125
- 16:24games. This year he played 84 games,
- 16:30obviously good offensively, very good.
- 16:33I mean OPS plus of 123 last year and 1:35 this year, but he's
- 16:36only playing in half the games. How many games is he actually
- 16:39catching the last couple years? Let's check that real quick.
- 16:44So 2023, I mean, this is the guy that you, you signed on to be
- 16:49your, your catcher for five years. 2023 he caught 97 games.
- 16:55He started at 89 games this year at catcher, he caught 51 games,
- 17:00started 50 games at catcher, less than 1/3 of the games.
- 17:05We all know the best ability is availability and Wilson
- 17:10Contreras needs to stay on the field.
- 17:12I know there's some flukish stuff what he got hit by the bat
- 17:15there, but that also had to do with standing and squatting
- 17:19closer to the the batter to try to steal those low strikes.
- 17:23I'm not trying to get into all the specifics of that, but let's
- 17:26get to your chat. Here we go, do do do do do do do
- 17:30do. Here we go Mt 2330 talking about
- 17:34the percentages of wanting Ollie gone.
- 17:37I think it's because Ollie is directly linked as most guy and
- 17:40fans want a clean slate and no ties back to MO at all.
- 17:43That's fair. That is why if Bloom is the new
- 17:45guy, they have to make it where MO has no connection.
- 17:48That's fair, let's see Justin Kopp.
- 17:52I see likely scenario that MO lessens his role and I can see
- 17:56them staying with Ollie. I agree with that.
- 17:59MO steps aside a bit, says hey, Heimbloom's running the show,
- 18:04I'll be here to help out, give Ollie one more year, see what
- 18:08happens. Remember, they gave Ollie the
- 18:09extension before the season. I think that's probably the most
- 18:13likely scenario. Even if you guys don't like that
- 18:17and you want Ollie gone so Bloom would step in as the main voice,
- 18:20yes, I think that should happen. I want that to happen.
- 18:23Let's see here, Dylan Hatfield. Skip wouldn't take the job with
- 18:27MO here. MO sees the manager as someone
- 18:29to implement his out of date analytics department game plan,
- 18:33which is just lefty righty matchups, not manage players.
- 18:36I think Skip would take the Cardinals job regardless of
- 18:40who's the pobo Ralph Jenkins. But Charlie, a lot of the
- 18:44starters ERA is because they were always pitching under the
- 18:47gun because of lack of run support.
- 18:49OK, yeah, I I don't know if I'm 100% with you there, but I get
- 18:56it. Chiefs 15.
- 18:57Michaelis needs to go. He's been mid for a while.
- 19:00Yes, he has that that's been a really bad extension.
- 19:04Let's let's talk about just how bad it's been.
- 19:06Remember, he's under contract for next year as well.
- 19:09At what? What's he making next year?
- 19:12Something like 18 1/2, I believe. three-year 55.75
- 19:17million extension. I think it's 18 1/2.
- 19:19I looked at this not too long ago.
- 19:21Yes, he's making 18 and a half million this year, 18 and a half
- 19:25million next year. Miles Michaelis Miles Michaelis
- 19:30this season, 5.35 ERA 9:00 and 11:00.
- 19:36He did make his start 31 games, 166 and 2/3 innings.
- 19:40Only 118 strikeouts, a fip of 4.2 so fit much better than his
- 19:48ERA but still not striking anybody out, giving up a ton of
- 19:53contact, ton of hits. It's ugly folks.
- 19:57It's ugly. And you got to think next year
- 19:59is going to be more of the same. Let's see.
- 20:04Larry Bloom should be allowed to hire the manager.
- 20:06I agree with that also. MO and his minions cannot run
- 20:08the franchise. Yes, I agree with that also, but
- 20:11if I'm Bloom. I might come in my first year
- 20:13and go, hey, let's fix the entire front office 1st.
- 20:17That's the biggest problem. See what happens with Ollie.
- 20:20Maybe Bloom likes Ollie. If things don't go on next year,
- 20:24you can move on from from Ollie. But fixing the foundational
- 20:27parts of this franchise, front office wise, drafting,
- 20:31developing, decision making, that's the number one.
- 20:35That's the number one issue. And that's why I'm saying, look,
- 20:36I understand if you want to move on from Ollie.
- 20:38I get it. I just don't think Ollie's even
- 20:40close to the biggest problem. I I would be fine.
- 20:43And I'm not even a huge Ollie fan.
- 20:45I'd be fine with Ollie sticking around 2025 and see what
- 20:50happens. If you move on from Mosaic and
- 20:53you say Hein Bloom's going to be the number one decision maker.
- 20:58OK, Flying Navy 73 now check offense with runners in scoring
- 21:02position. 28th or 29th. Yeah, I was trying to do that.
- 21:04Is that is that what it is? I, I believe you.
- 21:07I just, I don't want to go through checking all these stats
- 21:09while I'm live with you guys. I'm sure it's something like
- 21:11that. Yeah, that's the story.
- 21:13Not just OPS. Overall runners in scoring
- 21:15position, timely hitting. This team has been really bad.
- 21:19Agreed. Dylan Hatfield didn't even hit
- 21:21on the worst part of the rotation.
- 21:22They're paid like a top ten staff.
- 21:24Yep. Looking at pay alone, the
- 21:25expectation should be flipped for the staff and offense.
- 21:28Agreed. What do we got?
- 21:30Mike was making 18 1/2. Remember Steven Matz?
- 21:33What's he making 11 AAV? Sonny Gray's making what, 25,
- 21:36but it was deferred. Who else?
- 21:41Lynn and Gibson are making what, 1213 or whatever it is.
- 21:44Yeah. And then Palante's cheap right
- 21:47now. Palante's been Dang good.
- 21:49But that's a lot of $10 million plus salaries and a couple that
- 21:54are approaching or over 20 million for a starting staff
- 21:57that is not good at all. I don't know why people want
- 22:02them to go. I look forward to the league
- 22:04average vets we bring in every offseason.
- 22:06Logan Hart, Again, I was more surprised at the percentages.
- 22:09I knew you guys would all want Ollie and especially MO to go.
- 22:15I have a cough dropping Monty Metcalf.
- 22:19MO was about a decade behind the times.
- 22:20No reason to let him screw up another offseason just because
- 22:23he's under contract. Let's turn the page.
- 22:24I agree with that. It's time to move on.
- 22:26It's time for him to step aside and let Hein Bloom run the show.
- 22:29I've been saying that for a long time.
- 22:32Justin Kopp, biggest offseason needs our #1 starter or number
- 22:36two. Yeah, front end guy who's not 34
- 22:39and a bat, preferably a lefty that can split Contreras and
- 22:42Arenado up. Then they must ensure that the
- 22:45bullpen is strong. Yeah.
- 22:46And then you got Ryan Helsley there.
- 22:48Ryan Helsley one year left. You give him a big extension.
- 22:51Extensions for relievers. Lot of volatility with
- 22:55relievers. I would do it.
- 22:58But if you're Helsley, I don't think you're signing A-Team
- 23:02friendly deal. I don't think you're signing a
- 23:04little little three-year extension, right?
- 23:08Let's look, I mean, Helsley coming off an amazing season, I
- 23:11always forget how old Ryan Helsley is too.
- 23:13I feel like he's a little older than I think he is.
- 23:16Let's look, Ryan Helsley is 30, so he'll be 31 next year.
- 23:23So if you give him an extension, it's essentially starting with
- 23:26his age 32 season, so 32345 man. So you basically have to give
- 23:35him an extension. He's already under contract next
- 23:38year. You'd have to give him an
- 23:39extension for his ages, 32345, maybe age 36 season.
- 23:46What do you get? A five year contract if you had
- 23:48a great season next year? I don't know.
- 23:52He's great, but that worries me. If you have to give him, you
- 23:55have to give him four or five years.
- 23:56He's one of the best relievers in all baseball.
- 23:59What do you guys think about that, Matt, The Michael's
- 24:03contract was bad from the start. Yes.
- 24:04The extension. The extension absolutely was
- 24:09Justin Kopp. Most of these moves will need to
- 24:11be done via trade. Yeah, we'll see.
- 24:14Here we go. Scott Fawn, my guy.
- 24:17Scott Fawn. How you doing?
- 24:1883% of folks not wanting Marmol back seems low to me.
- 24:22He's not an Ollie guy. I get it.
- 24:25Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I thought maybe 75%, I knew you
- 24:30guys would want Ollie gone. I think Ollie, my main issues
- 24:34with Ollie, they haven't changed.
- 24:36I thought he mangled game one of the playoffs, 2022 as also his
- 24:41first playoff game. I thought he handled the Tyler
- 24:44O'Neill situation really poorly. No reason, in my opinion, to
- 24:48publicly call that guy out. Then you basically had to trade
- 24:50him for a bucket of balls. What does Tyler O'Neill have
- 24:54this season? Last I looked, 31 bombs or
- 24:56something. I know he's hurt all the time,
- 24:57but also we're talking about an offense with the Cardinals that
- 24:59needed any type of help. That relationship was fractured
- 25:03beyond repair. And I just thought that was
- 25:05stupid. I didn't there was any reason to
- 25:07call the dude out publicly like that, especially when you would
- 25:09never do that. I mean, the year before Yachty's
- 25:12going to going to Puerto Rico to to check on his basketball team,
- 25:17right? We're calling out some people
- 25:19and not calling out other people.
- 25:21Tyler O'Neill this year, 31 bombs, 61 RBI, 133 OPS, plus 855
- 25:28OPS for Tyler O'Neill has not been good at all for the last
- 25:35week or so. Let's check the splits real
- 25:37quick. He's very streaky. 2024 splits.
- 25:42Tyler O'Neill. Let's check him out.
- 25:46Do do, do, do, do, do, do, do. First half, first half, 838 OPS.
- 25:52second-half, Tyler O'Neill 882 OK, he's actually been, he's
- 25:59actually been good overall in September, 816 OPS.
- 26:03He was bad in August, really bad in May, but great in April and
- 26:10really good June, July. So he's streaky.
- 26:13He's had two bad months, but he's had four really good
- 26:17months. I know he's banged up here and
- 26:19there, but again, I thought Ollie calling him out fractured
- 26:23that relationship beyond repair. He essentially said that if you
- 26:26watch the interview on foul territory this winter, then you
- 26:30had to trade him for nothing. I just thought that was totally
- 26:32stupid. You had an asset in his walk
- 26:35year, super motivated, and you had to trade him because your
- 26:38manager called him out. You cannot change my mind on
- 26:41this. You cannot change my mind on
- 26:43this. Stupid.
- 26:44I I didn't hear one. And when you hear other
- 26:46professional athletes talk about this, whether it's on the radio,
- 26:49TVI didn't hear one person think that that that Ollie handled
- 26:53that properly. I will not change on that.
- 26:57Logan Hart. We need to bring a Pete Kosma
- 26:59back into the fold. I promise that will turn things
- 27:02around. All right, Pete Kosma as a
- 27:05coach, What is he even doing? Reverend 20 piece.
- 27:09We need a remake of Velma and Louise.
- 27:11Oh, come on, come on. Starring Mosaic and Marmol.
- 27:15That's not nice. I remember how that movie ended.
- 27:18Come on now. No violence, Bo.
- 27:23Their issue with the Cardinals, how they handle their young
- 27:25talent. Mason is an outlier as most of
- 27:27the talent. Gorman, Scott, Walker, have all
- 27:29been handled poorly. This needs to be addressed.
- 27:31Yeah. Alec Burleson's been good.
- 27:33Scott. Yeah.
- 27:34Up and down. That was weird.
- 27:36What? Just back up for paternity leave
- 27:39for Luke and Baker. Gorman.
- 27:40I don't know what's going on with him.
- 27:42Walker's starting to hit, which is good, but he's been freaking
- 27:46just kind of sabotage the last year or so.
- 27:50Let's see cold trickle. The entire front office and
- 27:54ownership need to go. That's one poll I didn't do was
- 27:57do you want the Dewitts to sell the team?
- 27:59And I think I think the I think the percentage would be right
- 28:03around there. What was Ali 83% and MO was 93%.
- 28:08I think I think the Dewitts selling the team would be in
- 28:11between 83 and 93%. Is that fair to say, Fat Bob?
- 28:16We want them gone, Charlie, Matt.
- 28:21God, imagine if they brought in an actual manager like Joe
- 28:24Madden and not a puppet. What do you think?
- 28:26Also, maybe a manager with experience.
- 28:30They've gone three straight managers with no big league
- 28:32experience like Metheny. Now obviously Shilt was a minor
- 28:36league manager, Ali minor league manager, but no big league
- 28:40experience since Tony Larussa. That's a long time ago.
- 28:43That's 13 years ago, folks. Let's see here.
- 28:48Cold trickle. Pretty sure DeWitt the Sonny
- 28:50boy. What?
- 28:53OK, I'm going to. I'm going to.
- 28:54I'm going to hide that one again.
- 28:57Not nice. OK, we're not getting personal
- 29:00here. He'll likely hire the first
- 29:02chick for GM and manager. Come on now, folks.
- 29:04Come on. I have to edit these better
- 29:07before I read them. Ralph Jenkins Managers don't
- 29:11make a huge difference in baseball compared to sports like
- 29:14football and hockey. I agree, especially football,
- 29:17baseball and basketball. It's about managing
- 29:19personalities. Managing a bullpen I think is
- 29:22important. Managing rest is important.
- 29:24Being a good spokesperson for the team.
- 29:26That's one of the main jobs of a baseball manager.
- 29:29I hate to say it. That's another thing.
- 29:31It's entertaining. Ali can be a little
- 29:33condescending with the press. I think it's funny.
- 29:36I wouldn't like if he was doing it to me also sometimes a little
- 29:40a little too big for his britches.
- 29:41Maybe. I was talking with my buddy
- 29:42about that who was the assistant hitting coach for the Cleveland
- 29:45Guardians. I think a reason for that is so
- 29:48my buddy didn't play in the majors either.
- 29:49He played in the minors. But I think I think everybody,
- 29:52you know your strengths and you know your weaknesses.
- 29:55And if you've never played in the big leagues and you're on a
- 29:58big league coaching staff or you're a manager, you know that
- 30:02you have to overcome that. And one way to do it is to kind
- 30:05of fly under the radar and pay your dues and be like, hey, I
- 30:09didn't play in the big leagues. Listen, learn.
- 30:12And then the opposite way is to kind of just be real
- 30:16authoritative about it. That's what I've seen from
- 30:18Ollie. Look, I, I know Ollie's the
- 30:20manager, he has to run the show, But I've, I've always felt like
- 30:24he's trying to overcompensate for the fact that he's young and
- 30:28overcompensate for the fact they didn't play in the big leagues.
- 30:32And I just, I don't know, not a huge deal.
- 30:34I just kind of noticed that with the way he treats umpires and
- 30:38the press sometimes. What do you guys think?
- 30:40I don't know. I don't know.
- 30:43Just my two cents. Chiefs 15, wish they would stop
- 30:46giving out all these undeserving contract extensions.
- 30:49Yeah, that's another thing. The Cardinals, I've thought
- 30:51about this a lot. The Cardinals are a family
- 30:54business that run their business too much like a family business.
- 31:00You know what I'm saying? When you run a family business,
- 31:04it's with family and it's it's hard to fire a family member,
- 31:10discipline a family member, move on from a family member if it's
- 31:14not working. And that's what I'm saying.
- 31:17The Dewitt's treat John Mosaic like a son Bill Junior does.
- 31:21And then all these extensions, I think that's part of it.
- 31:24The Cardinals are so in love with their past, which is great.
- 31:26We all love, we all love the Red Jackets.
- 31:29We all love best fans in baseball, baseball heaven.
- 31:32But I feel like the Cardinals treat their longtime players so
- 31:35much like family that they're afraid to cut bait with them
- 31:39when they should. It's like the only guy they did
- 31:42that with was Matt Holiday. Matt Holiday, if you go back the
- 31:45last 10 years or so, Matt Holiday is basically the only
- 31:48player they didn't give that extra extension for.
- 31:51All these other guys, whether it's it's Matt Carpenter's first
- 31:55extension, Miles Michaelis even continuing to bring back Adam
- 31:59Wainwright. Even though it worked out for a
- 32:00couple years, the last year was awful, right?
- 32:03They just, they're they're in love with their past.
- 32:06They're in love with nostalgia. That's why I wouldn't rule out
- 32:10Paul Goldschmidt. That's a that's a tough one
- 32:12about what what price he would come back.
- 32:15I'm probably OK with moving on from Paul Goldschmidt.
- 32:17But again, because he's one of those legacy guys, I feel like
- 32:21he's somebody else who they'll give another extension to that
- 32:24probably you shouldn't if it was anybody else, right?
- 32:27You got to make tough decisions flying Navy 73.
- 32:32I also think that MO has been paralyzed the last 5-6 years.
- 32:37The bad trades have been so bad. The Ozuna deal giving up a
- 32:42Contra gallon, the Randy Rosa Rana deal.
- 32:45I feel like the Cardinals made a couple really bad trades and
- 32:49then that made them afraid to make any big moves.
- 32:52And what happened was then instead of making a tough call
- 32:56moving on from an outfielder, you save these outfielders
- 32:59forever. You, you keep them forever.
- 33:02Whether it's Dylan Carlson, I mean, even Tyler O'Neill, you
- 33:06move him when he has no value. His last year, you get nothing
- 33:10for him. He has a nice year, but just
- 33:14choosing outfielders, the Cardinals have been bad at that.
- 33:16And then making a decision to to cut bait with somebody when they
- 33:20still have value, when they're still valued by other
- 33:22organizations and their top prospects.
- 33:25Somebody like Dylan Carlson, where you trade him for
- 33:26literally nothing, you get Sean Armstrong, who you what, put on
- 33:32waivers a month or so later. Let's see.
- 33:37OK, MO has to go. I'll take the opposite on Ollie.
- 33:40He has done an outstanding job considering their roster.
- 33:43MO saddled him with excellent job with bullpen.
- 33:45Yeah, I don't think this year Ollie's done a bad job.
- 33:48Good bullpen. I I don't think Ollie's the
- 33:51biggest problem by any means, but I understand if you guys
- 33:53want him to go. I get it, Ken San the first
- 33:57bloom new pobo utilize Molina's advisory role.
- 34:00Yes, the fact that Yadi just didn't even show up, that's also
- 34:04hilarious. To restructure the organization.
- 34:06It feels that the whole org lost its way.
- 34:09The cardinal way is gone folks. I agree Yadi can fix that, but
- 34:12he can't if he's just the manager.
- 34:14Does Yadi want to come back for anything other than the manager?
- 34:16Come on now. The dude made $100 million.
- 34:20Bo. The handling of Nolan Gorman and
- 34:22Jordan Walker has been a travesty.
- 34:25Let's see, flying Navy 73 Part 2.
- 34:28Not a real fan of Ollie and could offer reason for him to
- 34:32go, but my Spidey sense that he would be better than most of the
- 34:35guys they would hire. Skip is the exception.
- 34:37I agree with that. That's well said.
- 34:41Ken's on the 1st. Best to trade Housley.
- 34:43Use that money for towards starting pitching and bats.
- 34:47The league is going to figure him out by next season, maybe
- 34:50not even next season. To me, it's more about God to
- 34:53give a 32 year old like a four year deal with the volatility of
- 34:58bullpen arms injuries, right? I'm I think the more I think
- 35:04about if you get if you get a huge return from Helsley, I
- 35:07would do it. If not, I would just keep them.
- 35:09I would keep them. See what happens to the deadline
- 35:11next year. Then you can always qualifying
- 35:13offer him, right, even for a reliever, an unbelievable
- 35:18closer, whatever that is, $20 million for one season.
- 35:22But if they get a haul for him, I would move in this offseason.
- 35:24I don't think I'd sign him do a big extension.
- 35:27If he wants a A-Team friendly one, which why would he want
- 35:30that? Remember he also they went to
- 35:32arbitration and he was a little unhappy with the Cardinals
- 35:34several years ago. That was when I was at.
- 35:38Was that when I was at spring training?
- 35:39Would that have been 20? I can't remember when that was.
- 35:43No, that was not. I was not there whenever that
- 35:45was. He was not happy with the
- 35:47arbitration process, so I can see him wanting to test free
- 35:50agency. Also.
- 35:54Uncle John, here's a hypothetical question from a fan
- 35:57in Asia. If Marmo is still managing next
- 35:59season and wins the division, By the way, where you at in Asia?
- 36:02How many fans would still be clamoring for Ollie's head?
- 36:06Oh yeah, nobody. Nobody would if they win the
- 36:08division, for sure. I also think moving on from MO
- 36:11is enough substantive change that Cardinal fans would kind of
- 36:15withdraw their arrows from Ali for a little bit.
- 36:19Right? Moving on from MO is the biggest
- 36:21is the biggest part. Rodger Walton been saying
- 36:25Marmole should be fired from the from the get go.
- 36:27Lousy manager. Keep Goldie at least two more
- 36:29years even though he sucked this year.
- 36:33Noah Priest. Cardinals used to be pretty good
- 36:35at signing older players Will Clark, Larry Walker and the
- 36:37Lance Berkman. Let's see, Ralph Jenkins, there
- 36:42are not many systems in basketball and baseball.
- 36:44A coach with a great defensive system in football and hockey
- 36:47can make an immediate impact. Let's see 111 games played.
- 36:52Hurt again. Crazy.
- 36:54Who are you talking about there? We looked up what did Wilson
- 36:59Contreras played about 80 or so games.
- 37:01Who are you talking about? 111 games played?
- 37:03I can't remember. That was 10 minutes ago.
- 37:05We were talking about that. I had another discussion with my
- 37:07buddy at the Guardians Cardinals game.
- 37:09Different, different friend, big baseball guy, and he was having
- 37:13a discussion with his baseball friends.
- 37:14He brought this up to me. What do you think?
- 37:16He said the Cardinals may have been the team most negatively
- 37:22affected by the shift leaving. And when he brought that up,
- 37:27started thinking about that. We've discussed that a little
- 37:29bit and makes a lot of sense. The Cardinals did seem to have
- 37:34an advantage defensive alignment for all those years.
- 37:39They seem to really take advantage of the shift better
- 37:42than a lot of other teams. And since then the defense has
- 37:47fallen off. What do you guys think about
- 37:48that? I thought that was a pretty
- 37:49interesting topic. I haven't looked up all the
- 37:51numbers on that, but I feel like the eye test speaks to that.
- 37:57Quinn Matthews is Baseball America's minor league pitcher
- 37:59of the year for 2024. Yes, we're very high on Quinn
- 38:01Matthews. We're very high on Tink, hence.
- 38:03So hopefully some big time starters are coming from the
- 38:06organization, which has been the problem the last five to seven
- 38:10years. Really nobody from the
- 38:11organization besides Flaherty, who is up and down.
- 38:13He was hurt a lot. We like Palante, he's got to
- 38:16show more, but so far so good. Jacob Strange, maybe Ronnie Bell
- 38:23Yard to bring him back, huh? He'll save this Ralph Jenkins,
- 38:28John Mosaic and to a lesser extent Bill DeWitt Junior.
- 38:31Much bigger problem than Ollie Marmol with the Cardinals issues
- 38:34in the last decade. I agree Ryan made managers do
- 38:38not matter. Look at the Brewers.
- 38:40Cubs, yes, I don't want to say do not matter, but they don't
- 38:44matter nearly as much as a lot of people think.
- 38:46The the baseball decision makers in the front office matter much,
- 38:51much more. And look what happened with
- 38:53Craig counsel. Everybody said, oh, you're
- 38:54losing the the best manager, the guy who knows how to handle a
- 38:57bullpen. Brewers didn't skip a beat.
- 39:00Cubs not that great. Let's see it's got fun man.
- 39:05This is the time you want to take the pobo job.
- 39:07You would end that goodwill day one if you keep your losing
- 39:12manager. OK yeah, like I said, if if they
- 39:15if they move on from Ollie, I totally understand it.
- 39:19But first and foremost, you got to move on from from John
- 39:22Mosaic. If they move on from Ollie to
- 39:25I'm fine with it. I just don't think it's as
- 39:26pressing Aaron Dodson. The Dewitts don't care to win
- 39:31anymore. They need to sell.
- 39:34They certainly don't care about really winning at a high level.
- 39:37They certainly don't care about really putting themselves in a
- 39:39position to not just squeak into the playoffs, right.
- 39:42The last 3-4 years, I feel like all the teams have been the same
- 39:46on paper, just, hey, let's get in and see what happens.
- 39:48And then when things go poorly, all it takes is a couple things
- 39:51to go bad. Last year was awful.
- 39:53Then you you sell at the deadline.
- 39:55This year things OK at the deadline, but still you don't
- 39:59get any type of boost in in August and you missed the
- 40:03playoffs. Let's see Bird chatter baseball
- 40:0670% on DeWitt. Even if it was 95%, I would be
- 40:10the 5%. No, you don't want the Dewitts
- 40:12to sell Aaron Dodson. The Dewitts don't care to win
- 40:16championships. I agree with that.
- 40:18Here's the best. Comment of the live stream.
- 40:20Charlie should be the new GM. Yes I agree I will take that job
- 40:25for sure. Bird chatter baseball 70% on to
- 40:28it. He's a Hall of Fame owner.
- 40:30STL quality and a great story. Like Augie until the old man's
- 40:33gone. I say no it wouldn't, it won't
- 40:36and shouldn't. Let's see.
- 40:41As for mole, say lock and oily caramel, I don't know if that's
- 40:48a typo. I don't know.
- 40:51Scott Vaughn. What about DeWitt the Third
- 40:52stepping up to be the owner? Yeah.
- 40:55I mean, you got to think they're going to keep it in the family
- 40:58down the road. Let's see.
- 41:01Bird chatter, baseball. I thought this was a new live
- 41:03stream. See.
- 41:05Same live stream. What?
- 41:06We're 42 minutes in. I'm not going to go super long.
- 41:10I'm trying to get to all your guys questions.
- 41:12I appreciate them all. Let's see, cold trickle.
- 41:17DeWitt the Third has been at the helm of this club for at least
- 41:19the last four years. He's done quite a bang up job,
- 41:21huh? DeWitt the third?
- 41:24He's more the business guy. Let's see Ryan Cleary, they
- 41:29brought back Matt Adams for a day.
- 41:30Love the guy, but he hit 559 homers in his career.
- 41:33I'm fine with that. I love big city.
- 41:35Matt Adams. Hey, that's what the Cardinals
- 41:37are about, having little ceremonies for guys like that.
- 41:39You can joke about it. Hey, should they have bigger,
- 41:42bigger numbers to honor those guys?
- 41:43I'm fine with that. We love Big city, we love Matt
- 41:45Adams, big moments, Clayton Kershaw.
- 41:47It's all good. I'm not going to complain about
- 41:49that, especially in a year where not much is going right.
- 41:52OK, I'm not going to. I'm not going to RIP on Big
- 41:55city. He's my guy.
- 41:58But I understand what you're saying.
- 42:00Verles Quinn, If most days Ollie stays, it makes sense.
- 42:03It's MO's last year again. If most days, he will make some
- 42:05player moves, but I think we'll be mindful of the new GM coming
- 42:08in 2026. Brad Nichols.
- 42:12Ollie did fine. Fans usually have very stupid
- 42:14reasons for demanding he goes as if this team would have
- 42:17performed much differently without him.
- 42:20That's kind of where I'm at. Burlesquin, I'm OK with Ollie.
- 42:23Offense was bad. Yeah, this is much more, first
- 42:25of all, on Mosaic big picture and specifically on the players
- 42:29this year offensively, Goldschmidt, Arenado, Gorman,
- 42:35Jordan Walker. Who am I missing?
- 42:37Go around the diamond. Contreras being hurt.
- 42:40He was good when he was in the lineup, but hurt for half the
- 42:43games? Who else?
- 42:46I mean, look, the dudes you're paying 60 million to got to be
- 42:50better. No one.
- 42:51Arenado, Paul, Goldschmidt, Wilson.
- 42:53Contreras has to be on the field more.
- 42:56Jordan Walker, we expected him to take a step forward and
- 42:58instead he was in the minors for most of the season.
- 43:02Nolan Gorman in the minors, we expected him to take a huge
- 43:05step. It ain't good, folks.
- 43:08Oh, Tyler O'Neill, 111 games played.
- 43:11That's who you're talking about. Ryan Mabe.
- 43:12Yes, Ryan Mabe again. Cardinals over under for wins
- 43:17was 84 1/2 were one of the favorites.
- 43:19Brewers being much better than expected killed the season.
- 43:22Yeah, but still, I don't think you should be happy going into a
- 43:25season where you're over. Under is 84 1/2, right?
- 43:27The Cardinals may land right around there.
- 43:29If they won out, they get 85. They probably land on more like
- 43:3283, right? You can't.
- 43:35You can't expect to get to the playoffs with 84 wins, right?
- 43:39I would feel much better if you're over.
- 43:41Under is 88 and a half, 89 1/2. OK, You feel pretty good.
- 43:44Hey, this is a playoff team. 84 1/2, you're kind of.
- 43:48We'll see what happens. Bird chatter, baseball.
- 43:52So whatever percentage is majority is wrong on DeWitt.
- 43:54I don't know with MO Good time to part ways from Walt Jockity
- 43:571995. Ali manages like a deer in
- 44:00headlights. Must fire Eric Wade.
- 44:05The Edmond stuff alone is grounds for firing.
- 44:07How are you going to be asleep at the wheel the entire season?
- 44:10Almost none of their moves made a ton of sense.
- 44:12Move UPS, downs, trades, waivers.
- 44:14Yeah, I agree with that. Eric Wade always playing catch
- 44:18up. Aaron Dodson.
- 44:21MO should be fired and left penniless.
- 44:25That's harsh. I think he's probably got some
- 44:27money in the bank. MO strikes me as somebody who
- 44:29manages his personal portfolio very well.
- 44:32Spencer Bean. Skip is likely to replace Ollie
- 44:35based on some inside info. They may keep him next year
- 44:38though. But if they drop him this year
- 44:39to Skip, fans would love Skip coming back.
- 44:42Let's be real. That's one thing right?
- 44:44It's a no brainer just from a popularity standpoint because
- 44:46remember, you also need to sell tickets.
- 44:49The Cardinal fans did not show up this year.
- 44:51I'm not mad at you didn't get to 3 million fans for the first
- 44:54time in this ballpark's history. And look, there was half of
- 44:58that. Let's be real about that.
- 44:59However many, whatever the number is going to be 2,800,000,
- 45:05whatever the number is, it's it's it's more like half that,
- 45:07right that actually showed up and attended the games final
- 45:11think what would Trump do? You're all fired.
- 45:13Make Cardinal baseball great again.
- 45:15There we go. Cold trickle prediction.
- 45:17They don't do anything in the offseason.
- 45:19I agree. I I disagree, disagree with
- 45:23that. They're going to do something in
- 45:24the offseason for sure. I think Mosaic actually going to
- 45:27step aside or at least step aside a little bit and say, hey,
- 45:32I'm Bloom's coming in. He's going to be the future.
- 45:35We're going to give him a bunch of responsibilities for 2025.
- 45:37I think that's what is and should happen.
- 45:42Alex Clubs, if Charlie was managing, who would you start
- 45:44next year? Who would I start if I was a
- 45:50manager? I mean, these dudes just got to
- 45:52hit right? Gorman has to hit.
- 45:54Walker has to hit. Aronado has to hit.
- 45:57We'll see if if Goldsmith's even here.
- 45:59If he is, he has to hit like a $26 million player.
- 46:03Aronado has to hit like a $35 million player.
- 46:06Jordan Walker has to hit like a top five prospect in baseball.
- 46:10Gorman has to hit like a guy that we looked at as a first
- 46:13round pick who was going to be a 30 bomb big leaguer for 10
- 46:16years. That's what has to happen.
- 46:19Spencer being Goldie is likely to go back to Arizona unless
- 46:22we're able to sign him for a lot lower price tag.
- 46:25If he goes back to Arizona, I think that's OK folks.
- 46:27I think it's OK to move on from Goldschmidt.
- 46:30I don't think anybody's going to really either way be like, oh,
- 46:32we lost Goldschmidt at his age. What what is he?
- 46:35How old is Paul Goldschmidt? Is he 36?
- 46:40Let's look him up because I forget all these things.
- 46:42Paul Goldschmidt. Paul Goldschmidt is he's already
- 46:4637. He just turned 37 September
- 46:5010th. So you're basically getting him
- 46:52for his ages 37 and 38 season. I don't think you can be really
- 46:56mad if they don't sign Paul Goldschmidt, folks.
- 47:00Let's see Spencer Bean, even if Paul Goldschmidt goes somewhere
- 47:04else and is good, OK it it's OK with moving on from a 37 year
- 47:09old on A2 year deal if if he wants 2 years, it's OK to say,
- 47:13you know what we don't feel great about About this deal at
- 47:15this price, Ali's likely to be shelved for skip, though you
- 47:18heard it here first. Just watch and see Spencer Bean
- 47:23O'Neill hit as many dingers as our whole outfield combined.
- 47:25That was my whole point earlier. And you traded him for nothing.
- 47:28You traded him for nothing in his walk year when he was super
- 47:30motivated. He wasn't making a ton of money
- 47:32and you did it because you fractured the relationship
- 47:34beyond repair last year by calling him out publicly.
- 47:38I will never, I will never change my mind on that.
- 47:40I said it was stupid then, stupid now.
- 47:43Even. Looks worse when your offense
- 47:45sucked. He hits 31 bombs.
- 47:47He'd have been your best outfielder.
- 47:49And oh, by the way, you traded him for nothing.
- 47:51What a minor league guy. And then who was the other guy?
- 47:54I forgot his name. Was it Nick Robertson?
- 47:56That they freaking DFA, Right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 48:00I believe I am. Let's see.
- 48:04Devin Hilton Ali is fine for high school baseball coach.
- 48:06Come on now. Hall of Fame managers don't grow
- 48:08on trees. There's only a handful at any
- 48:10time, and we need to go get one. Go get one.
- 48:12Or or get somebody who turns into a Hall of Fame manager.
- 48:15How about that, J Bok? Look at the majority of good
- 48:19teams. They have at least six players
- 48:21in the lineup with 20 plus homers.
- 48:23Yeah, we we looked earlier. The Cardinals, what was their
- 48:26slugging percentage? Was it 388?
- 48:29Let me go look again. I think the Cardinals slugging
- 48:31percentage. Cardinals.
- 48:35OK, let's look at this again. We did this earlier, folks.
- 48:40Cardinals Team OPS Team OPS Cardinals 20th in baseball 6698
- 48:52team slug Yikes 38820 first in baseball team OBP OK 15th Middle
- 49:01of the pack 3-10 in baseball. And we all know the biggest
- 49:05issue is timely hitting runners in scoring position.
- 49:07That tells the story. Verlis, Gwynn.
- 49:12I think if or when Bloom takes over, say bye bye to the big
- 49:15money contracts. Wilson, Goldie, NATO and Gray,
- 49:19it may take him a year or two to trade them away, but I believe
- 49:22that's the direction he will go. You should keep Gray first of
- 49:25all, Wilson, he stays healthy. You like that deal.
- 49:29Even if he turns into ADH or first baseman in the last couple
- 49:31years. NATO, don't you think NATO's
- 49:35going to want to trade this offseason?
- 49:36He's making a lot of money for less production.
- 49:38Goldie, you just don't bring him back.
- 49:40That's easy. I don't think you move on from
- 49:42Gray's contract. Let's see.
- 49:46Spencer being Goldie is the most likely to go.
- 49:49I'll go for an hour here, folks, About 9 more minutes.
- 49:52Scuba 13. There's some sort of disconnect
- 49:54between minors and majors player development.
- 49:56Springfield and Palm Beach had great, great years, but guys
- 49:59aren't developing at AAA. Yeah, that's another thing.
- 50:02When the Cardinals were good 11 to 15, they would just go down
- 50:05and bring up a frickin army of pitching reliever.
- 50:08I was talking to my buddy about this at the game the other day.
- 50:11I mean, just even we're talking the Rosenthal, the Kevin Segres,
- 50:14the Seth Manesses of the world, then go to starters Shelby
- 50:18Miller, Michael Walker, Lance Lynn, Carlos Martinez.
- 50:22They would always go down and get folks from the minor leagues
- 50:25that would come up and contribute.
- 50:27And we have not seen that, that pipeline of pitching.
- 50:30I mean, we'll see what happens with Mcgreevy, but guys like
- 50:32Mcgreevy and Graceffo and Zach Thompson, who you thought would
- 50:35be contributors, that has not really been the case.
- 50:39Palante obviously was great this year.
- 50:41You're happy with him. But big picture, just churning
- 50:44out the the pitching that you develop yourself.
- 50:47That's why the Cardinals were so good from 11 to 15.
- 50:52Let's see, Spencer Bean, we aren't willing to give him
- 50:5418,000,000 next season. Talking about Goldschmidt, I
- 50:56believe, yes. Craig Star, possibility of
- 50:59trading multiple prospects for a future Hall of Famer on a bad
- 51:02team. Mike Trout, that ain't going to
- 51:04happen. What's Mike Trout make, like 40
- 51:06million, something like that. He's also always hurt.
- 51:11We're trying to get rid of the big contracts, older guys that
- 51:14are hurt. All right, Aaron Hughes, time to
- 51:16let Mcgreevy and hence start establishing themselves in the
- 51:18rotation. Hard to give start to the lots
- 51:20of veteran. That's another thing.
- 51:21Yeah, like next year. Miles Michaelis, OK, he's under
- 51:24contract. Wouldn't you rather see somebody
- 51:27like Mcgreevy get a shot? Tink?
- 51:31I don't think Tink and Quinn Matthews are going to start the
- 51:33year with a chance to make the big league club as starters.
- 51:37But hopefully they're in the big leagues at some point next year.
- 51:41Let's see. Ryan Cleary, Charlie, will they
- 51:44have an end of season press conference this year?
- 51:45Lol yes they will. But I don't think it'll be a
- 51:48typical press conference of basically the post mortem on the
- 51:51season. I think.
- 51:52I think there will be news. I think it'll be a news
- 51:55conference announcing some changes.
- 51:57That's what should happen. I just answered this question,
- 52:00but Spencer Bean, will we see Quinn Matthews as a starter at
- 52:03the beginning of next year? I say no, but hey man, he's been
- 52:06unbelievable. So I wouldn't rule it out, but I
- 52:08wouldn't bet on it. Let's see.
- 52:14Kent's on the 1st. Props for Wilson to say what's
- 52:16needed to be said. Too many holes in the lineup
- 52:18from underperforming players. Hopefully the front office
- 52:20doesn't take offense and trade him.
- 52:22I saw a stat on X. Did you guys see this?
- 52:24Somebody put it out there of the Cardinals record though, the
- 52:27last couple years with and without Wilson Contreras.
- 52:30I didn't even want to bring it up because I didn't personally
- 52:33vet it, but it was a stark difference of the Cardinals
- 52:36record. When Wilson isn't playing, it's
- 52:39much better than when he is playing.
- 52:41Did you guys see that? Did anybody check on that?
- 52:44I shouldn't have brought it up without checking on it, but it
- 52:46was really surprising to me. Terry McKenna, watch Goldie will
- 52:51come on after he gets away from Ollie.
- 52:52I mean, yeah, but wasn't Goldie? Goldie was really good Ollie's
- 52:59first year, wasn't he? Let's look it up.
- 53:03So Ollie's first year was 2022. Goldie an All Star?
- 53:07Oh, he's a fricking MVP. Come on.
- 53:09Yeah, that was his MVP year. I mean, he was the MVP with
- 53:13Ollie, led the league in slug OPS and OPS plus.
- 53:18Fricking MVP, 35 bounce, 115 RBI, 2022.
- 53:23So it's not on Ollie, it's on Goldie.
- 53:25And even last year, Goldie was 120 OPS plus.
- 53:29To me, you're seeing potentially just aging.
- 53:32He's up to 95 OPS plus not. I mean, look, you're getting
- 53:36close to league average, but you're making how much money is
- 53:38he making, $26 million a year? I mean, that dude's got to be at
- 53:42least 120 OPS plus. I know he's getting older, but
- 53:45yeah, he's making $26 million this year.
- 53:50Mike Keeler Like Wee Willie Keeler's relative, Trout's best
- 53:56years are in the rearview mirror.
- 53:59Let's see. Zachary Long Honestly, we just
- 54:02need another hitting coach, a bat and maybe another starter.
- 54:04Got plenty of trade options. Gorman I do think the Cardinals,
- 54:07there's another thing we talk about front office, but field
- 54:10staff. Don't you think you have to move
- 54:11on from the entire offensive coaching staff?
- 54:13So hopefully this offseason we have at least two big moves.
- 54:17Maybe 3 because you guys all want Oligon, but at least two,
- 54:20in my opinion. Mosaic says Heimloom's going to
- 54:23take over. I'm going to give him a ton of
- 54:25responsibility in 2025, Get rid of the entire offensive coaching
- 54:29staff. At that point, I think fans
- 54:32would not be that pissed if Ollie's back.
- 54:35What do you guys think? Here we go, Bird chatter
- 54:38baseball. What would Trump do?
- 54:39We have the greatest, winningest franchise.
- 54:42We know the Yankees, but they cheated.
- 54:44Everybody knows they cheat. So we are the greatest, the top
- 54:47and #1 baseball team. Not a very good impression.
- 54:50I tried Spencer Bean, that's my main grief with Ollie is he did
- 54:55that to O'Neill. That was probably the biggest
- 54:56problem he has with ownership to philosophy wise, which says a
- 54:59lot. Who is your favorite one year
- 55:03bullpen pitcher with the Cardinals or somebody to get?
- 55:06I haven't even looked at the freaking who's who's available
- 55:08out there. Another Trump.
- 55:12Trump continued. In America, folks, we are better
- 55:14off than we were four years. Remember when Jack Flaherty was
- 55:17great? Matt Carpenter could hit Goldie.
- 55:20She's Goldie. Not even gold.
- 55:22They tarnished Goldie. That's pretty good.
- 55:25That's pretty funny. My impression wasn't good, but
- 55:27the writing is good. Get rid of Gibson in my opinion.
- 55:32How about we give Ryan Lotus a chance?
- 55:3518 of 20 save OPS in triplet. Great story.
- 55:38I remember interviewing Ryan Lotus.
- 55:40Is that how you pronounce it? I can't remember.
- 55:42I remember interviewing him at Wash U when Wash U was going to
- 55:46the Division Three World Series I believe.
- 55:48And for a guy like that, wasn't he undrafted?
- 55:51Was that the COVID year? Maybe the COVID year, I can't
- 55:55remember. But for him to be a big leaguer
- 55:57from D3, Wash U throws gas now. Super impressive.
- 56:03Spencer, me and I say we bring back JoJo and Kit.
- 56:07Honestly, yeah, Kit Ridge. It'd be nice to have Kit Ridge
- 56:09back on a nice little one year deal.
- 56:11Also Nathan Holtmeyer. Aside from shite trades, I think
- 56:18the Dewitt's deserve a majority of fan hate as opposed to MO.
- 56:21Both. Do you agree MO can operate
- 56:24within the financial limits that ownership places them in?
- 56:27I don't know because the Cardinals payroll isn't like
- 56:29$200 million. It's not about how much
- 56:31recently, it's about how they spend the money.
- 56:35But it's on MO more for just the whole organization.
- 56:37Drafting, developing, that's on MO, but really it's on the
- 56:41Dewitt's because the buck stops with the owner.
- 56:44I'll always blame the ownership more just big picture because
- 56:48they run the business, they run the company.
- 56:50At the end of the day, if somebody underneath you, even
- 56:53Mosaic, isn't doing well for your business to succeed, you
- 56:56have to move on from that person.
- 56:59Let's see, man, you guys have a lot of questions and comments.
- 57:02I don't think I'm going to be able to go to all these.
- 57:04OK? I'm just going to, I'm going to
- 57:05sift through them. I appreciate it, honestly.
- 57:07We'll go a nice solid hour. Let's see.
- 57:11Do, do, do, do, do. Yeah.
- 57:12Runners in scoring position killed us this year.
- 57:15We all agree on that. Do, do, do, do.
- 57:17Do. They need a whole new outfield
- 57:20move Burleson into first. Don't you like.
- 57:22You like new bar, though, right? New bar.
- 57:24Solid, Donovan. Solid.
- 57:27This is funny. Patrick Longshanks.
- 57:29Whatever happened to Molina Consulting?
- 57:31He watched this team this year and said, I'm not interested.
- 57:34I'll take that check, though. We'll see you next year.
- 57:37This is well said. Chester Markle MO did a good job
- 57:41for a long time, but I think it's time to move on.
- 57:43That's that's an adult way of saying it.
- 57:46That's how I say it. I agree with that.
- 57:48More good than bad. Big picture. 1st 10 years not as
- 57:51good as first ten years, much better than the last.
- 57:53Whatever eight years, whatever it is, overall good.
- 57:57Time to move on. This is business baby.
- 58:00That's all it is. You like my Trump impression?
- 58:02It was OK Good writing though. Yadi as manager, Who do you
- 58:07think Hein Bloom wants to come in and have Yadi be the manager
- 58:10who has more juice than him in the organization?
- 58:12Would you want that? Would you want that as a
- 58:15president of baseball operations?
- 58:16Year one hiring Yadi, who's more popular than anybody on freaking
- 58:21Earth in terms of Cardinal Nation, Libertour will be the
- 58:26next closer, or at least set up guy.
- 58:28Yeah, I'd like to see Libertour more opportunities for sure next
- 58:31year manage the Cardinals. He was supposed to be an advisor
- 58:33and player helper this year, but he didn't show up at all, which
- 58:36is hilarious, let's be honest. That they doesn't jive.
- 58:44With ownership, unfortunately, Trust me, Jive.
- 58:46Yeah, yeah, I like Burley at first.
- 58:49Next year, Livitor is a positive thing we can take from this
- 58:53season. How many years until we're a
- 58:55playoff contender going into the season?
- 58:58Big time playoff contender. I think 2026 Cardinals can make
- 59:02the playoffs next year, right? They can make the playoffs next
- 59:05year, but I don't think on paper they're going to be that great.
- 59:08But don't you think 2026 is more of the year where you're
- 59:12shedding contracts, right? You're shedding Michaelis,
- 59:15you're shedding Steven Matz. You would think that at that
- 59:19point, Quinn Matthews and Tinkhens are really ready to
- 59:23contribute maybe as full time big league starters, even though
- 59:26that would probably be their first year at that point.
- 59:29You're hoping Jordan Walker figures it out and he's really
- 59:31good. You're hoping Nolan Gorman is
- 59:33pretty good. I can see the Cardinals on paper
- 59:372026 being pretty damn good. I think on paper next year, very
- 59:41good chance that they're kind of like this year with that over
- 59:45under win total of 84 1/2 or 83 1/2 or or something of that
- 59:49nature. OK, here's a good stat.
- 59:54Oh, wait. I don't think there's a chance
- 59:55Tink is ready before Quinn. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 59:58I'm saying 2026 as full time starters.
- 1:00:00I think they'll both be in the big leagues at some point next
- 1:00:03year for something. Cup of coffee, spot start, end
- 1:00:07of the year, whatever it is. Here's the stat I was trying to
- 1:00:09go to scuba 13. Insane stat of the year.
- 1:00:12Bases loaded batting average is 184, down from last year's 198.
- 1:00:17So 15 point drop. I'll, I'll take your word for
- 1:00:19that. Let's see.
- 1:00:24Jay Bok. Need better hitters from the.
- 1:00:26Miners rarely get a stud hitter develop.
- 1:00:28They always have to trade for older hitters already past 30.
- 1:00:31How about developing the guys that like Walker and Gorman?
- 1:00:34I mean, you like Donovan, don't you?
- 1:00:35You like Burleson, you like win, you like Newt Bar.
- 1:00:38I know Newt Bar has to, you know, some of these guys have to
- 1:00:39stay a little more healthy, but there's some good position
- 1:00:42players there. OK, let's wrap it up.
- 1:00:44We're over an hour. Thank you guys for watching.

- 1:00:55loans to a local bank over there in Frontenac that cares about
- 1:00:58me. Their customer service is top
- 1:01:00notch. Triad Bank been working with
- 1:01:03them for about 5 years or so. They've been a sponsor for about
- 1:01:063 years. Love Triad bank and Frontenac.
- 1:01:09They also have a location in Creve Coeur Saint Louis Lawn
- 1:01:12Care for your lawn cutting needs mulch aeration.
- 1:01:16They're about to do the aeration coming up this week mosquito and
- 1:01:18bug control. You got Saint Louis equipment
- 1:01:22stlmowerrepair.com buy a new mower, get your mower repaired.
- 1:01:25We're talking SCAG, we're talking right the big time
- 1:01:28Brands, handheld machines. I have a Crest battery operated
- 1:01:32trimmer. I have a Husqvarna blower, which
- 1:01:35is that fuel mix. It's all great over there.
- 1:01:37Then corner butcher, I got to get out there.
- 1:01:39Corner butcher. Now in the same building as Chop
- 1:01:41House in beautiful Fenton, MO Love Corner butcher for all your
- 1:01:45grilling needs for the weekend, for college football, for
- 1:01:48baseball playoffs. Are you going to watch baseball
- 1:01:49playoffs even though the Cardinals aren't in it?
- 1:01:52I'm a Guardians fan and I haven't looked, but the Tigers
- 1:01:54have a chance to make it. My dad's happy about that.
- 1:01:56My dad's a Tigers fan. My buddy's the assistant hitting
- 1:01:59coach for the Guardians. I will be rooting for the
- 1:02:01Guardians and I'll be rooting for the Tigers if they make it
- 1:02:03as well. What do you guys think about
- 1:02:05that? OK, I'll do a couple more,
- 1:02:09Couple more. Mitchell Baquette.
- 1:02:14Mitchell is your dad Dave from the gym.
- 1:02:17Let me know with the end of your conference Monday.
- 1:02:20I'm worried the big changes MO will announce won't be big at
- 1:02:23all. Firing Turner Award and naming a
- 1:02:24new director of player development.
- 1:02:26MO will still be pobo. We shall see.
- 1:02:29I don't know. I hope, I hope, MO.
- 1:02:30I don't think that'll happen immediately, that announcement,
- 1:02:33although you should probably shouldn't hold the press
- 1:02:35conference until you actually have that solidified.
- 1:02:40So whatever they have to do, I don't think you're going to see
- 1:02:42a press conference that first week.
- 1:02:44I think if the Cardinals are going to make big changes, they
- 1:02:46have to let those things play out a couple weeks and maybe you
- 1:02:50have a press conference where Heim Bloom's actually they're
- 1:02:52sitting there, right? Mitchell says.
- 1:02:55Yeah. Dad's a good dude.
- 1:02:56I talked to him at the gym all the time.
- 1:02:59Let's see. The Cardinals are opening their.
- 1:03:01Own streaming service, that's another thing.
- 1:03:04The TV Cardinals are going to have to invest in that
- 1:03:07infrastructure with the TV moving forward and that's going
- 1:03:09to be a big investment, even though big, big picture long
- 1:03:12term is going to be much better for them, but probably going to
- 1:03:14be a little painful financially for the first couple years.
- 1:03:17Hope Schilt wins the World Series.
- 1:03:19I agree with that. I want the Guardians to win the
- 1:03:22world. Series, but I would.
- 1:03:23Want to see Schilt as well? I'm I'm totally fine with that.
- 1:03:27All right, all right guys, we'll end it there.
- 1:03:30I think I read almost every one of your guys comments, almost
- 1:03:34everyone. If I miss some, I apologize, but
- 1:03:36we read a million of them and I appreciate all you guys.

- 1:03:48concurrently. So there you go.
- 1:03:51Thanks, guys. Charlie Marlow signing off.
- 1:03:54Thank you so much. We'll try to do at least one of
- 1:03:56these per week or so. I'll do one.
- 1:03:59I'll tell you what. Also, I think I'm gonna do one
- 1:04:00next Tuesday when playoffs start.
- 1:04:03Maybe we'll do 1 during the day while I'm kind of watching games
- 1:04:06over there and we can have a little chat while we're going
- 1:04:08back with all the games. I got to see the schedule, but I
- 1:04:11love that first playoff day when there's a ton of baseball games,
- 1:04:15so we'll see. All right, guys, and I'll end on
- 1:04:19this Spencer Bean. Thanks, Charlie.
