- 0:30Speaker 2: Oh zempic Manjaro wigovi zep bound. What are these peptides
- 0:35Speaker 2: and should Christians be using them? What's up, guys? My
- 0:38Speaker 2: name is Coach Alex van Houghten, exercise scientists and faith

- 0:56Speaker 2: You'll find the link in the show notes below. So
- 0:59Speaker 2: let's talk about peptides. What do you need to know
- 1:02Speaker 2: about making this a part of your health and fitness program.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We're going to cut through all the noise and all
- 1:06Speaker 2: the marketing and see what the science says about whether
- 1:09Speaker 2: or not this is a useful and wise thing to
- 1:12Speaker 2: make a part of your faith based stewardship program for
- 1:15Speaker 2: your body. If you've heard about one of these medications,
- 1:17Speaker 2: or maybe it's been recommended to you by your doctor
- 1:20Speaker 2: or even a friend, I want you to know everything
- 1:22Speaker 2: you need to know to make a wise decision about
- 1:25Speaker 2: what's right for your body and right for your health journey.
- 1:28Speaker 2: The first thing we're going to cover today are what
- 1:30Speaker 2: are peptides by what mechanisms are they working in the
- 1:33Speaker 2: body to create some of these really positive benefits we're
- 1:36Speaker 2: seeing and some of those negative side effects that should
- 1:40Speaker 2: be considered before using them. Second, we're going to be
- 1:43Speaker 2: talking about whether or not peptides have any place and
- 1:47Speaker 2: a faith based program for the body. Is it helpful
- 1:50Speaker 2: for stewardship? Is there any way to make this a
- 1:52Speaker 2: part of my program that's not vanity. We'll be discussing
- 1:55Speaker 2: that as well. In third, we're going to be talking
- 1:57Speaker 2: about the things that you need to be asking you
- 2:00Speaker 2: or doctor in order to make this a part of
- 2:02Speaker 2: your program if it's the right fit for you. So
- 2:05Speaker 2: let's get started first. What is a peptide. As an
- 2:07Speaker 2: exercise scientist, I love the science. I'm going to try
- 2:11Speaker 2: to make this as simple as possible. Peptides are basically
- 2:14Speaker 2: natural compounds that our body creates that are chains of
- 2:17Speaker 2: amino acids, and they signal things in the body. You
- 2:21Speaker 2: could think of them as kind of like a stoplight
- 2:23Speaker 2: in the body. The intersections of the body come together
- 2:26Speaker 2: and the livers trying to talk to the brain. It's like, hey,
- 2:28Speaker 2: whoa hold up? Or Hey let's go a little faster,
- 2:30Speaker 2: or whoa slow down. These peptides are signals on the
- 2:33Speaker 2: inside of the body that help certain things in the
- 2:35Speaker 2: body speed up and certain things in the body slow
- 2:38Speaker 2: down or even stop. And the two peptides people are
- 2:41Speaker 2: talking about when they reference ozepic or manjaro or zep
- 2:45Speaker 2: bound are the GLP one peptides. That's a glucagon like
- 2:50Speaker 2: peptide one GLP one or GIP, which is the glucose
- 2:55Speaker 2: dependent insulinotropic polypeptide. I know, it's a mouthful. GLP one
- 3:01Speaker 2: is a peptide that works on one channel in the body,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and GLP one in GIP GIP working on another channel
- 3:09Speaker 2: in the body. They seem to work together to create
- 3:12Speaker 2: some more benefits and positive results. The drugs on the
- 3:16Speaker 2: market that use GLP one only are things like ozempic
- 3:20Speaker 2: or wagov. And then there are drugs on the market
- 3:23Speaker 2: that use both GLP one and GIP. Those are the
- 3:26Speaker 2: drugs like zep bound or Manjaro. I know that sounds
- 3:30Speaker 2: really complicated, but just know the GLP ones are called
- 3:34Speaker 2: samaglatides and then the GLP one GIP those are called terzepetides.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And when talking to your doctor about which one of
- 3:41Speaker 2: these might be right for you in your program, it's
- 3:44Speaker 2: important to know that there is a difference. I guess
- 3:46Speaker 2: this is as good a time as any to say
- 3:48Speaker 2: I am not a doctor. The rest of this video
- 3:50Speaker 2: is intended for your information purposes only, not medical advice.
- 3:55Speaker 2: When it comes to understanding whether or not somemaglatide or
- 3:59Speaker 2: terzeptides should be a part of your program, you should
- 4:02Speaker 2: definitely be talking to your doctor. So I know some
- 4:04Speaker 2: of the jargon around peptides. How do they actually support
- 4:08Speaker 2: health and fitness or weight loss. Well, it turns out
- 4:10Speaker 2: that both the GLP one and the dual agonists GLP
- 4:13Speaker 2: one GIP they help with satiety signaling, that is how
- 4:17Speaker 2: full you feel when you eat. They help with delayed
- 4:20Speaker 2: gastric emptying, meaning that it helps your stomach hold onto
- 4:24Speaker 2: foods a little longer so that you're not hungry so
- 4:27Speaker 2: fast after you eat. Also helps with blood sugar stabilization,
- 4:30Speaker 2: so it keeps you from those spikes and drops, which
- 4:33Speaker 2: is why these drugs are also used in order to
- 4:36Speaker 2: treat diabetes. And lastly, they've been shown to improve insulin
- 4:41Speaker 2: sensitivity that's how well your body responds to carbohype regulation. Now,
- 4:45Speaker 2: I know that sounds like a lot, but in the
- 4:47Speaker 2: last twenty years of helping individuals lose weight to make
- 4:50Speaker 2: the most out of the body God's given them, I've
- 4:53Speaker 2: found that these are exactly the places that individuals need
- 4:57Speaker 2: the most support in order to continue to see positive
- 5:00Speaker 2: progress and results and to support their mindset on the
- 5:03Speaker 2: day to day basis doing good exercise and good nutrition. So,
- 5:07Speaker 2: as a coach, do I recommend these sort of things
- 5:09Speaker 2: to my clients. Again, like I said, I don't give
- 5:12Speaker 2: medical advice, but I have advised some of my clients
- 5:15Speaker 2: to talk to their doctor about using these peptides to
- 5:18Speaker 2: support their program. A cautionary note, though, these are not
- 5:22Speaker 2: first steps when it comes to being a good steward
- 5:25Speaker 2: of the body you've been given. It's important to note
- 5:27Speaker 2: that while these things can support healthy, powerful long term
- 5:31Speaker 2: weight loss in a body, and maybe even some good,
- 5:34Speaker 2: healthy changes in a body, there are some things that
- 5:37Speaker 2: we should be doing already before adding these to a
- 5:40Speaker 2: program to mitigate bad side effects, but also to see
- 5:44Speaker 2: long term progress that's healthy, not just a change on
- 5:49Speaker 2: the scale. So, if you're asking my coach's opinion, what
- 5:52Speaker 2: I would say is that these peptides are not good
- 5:55Speaker 2: for beginners. You should already be involved in an exercise
- 5:58Speaker 2: and nutrition program that is making you healthier every week
- 6:03Speaker 2: before involving these into your program, and I'll explain why.
- 6:07Speaker 2: So I'm about to describe three things that really matter
- 6:10Speaker 2: are a part of your habits and a part of
- 6:12Speaker 2: your program before you need to approach whether or not
- 6:15Speaker 2: peptides are right for you. And if you struggle in
- 6:18Speaker 2: any of these three areas, I'm going to encourage you
- 6:20Speaker 2: to check out our Better Daily Beginner Course. Our Better
- 6:23Speaker 2: Daily Beginner Course is a powerful program designed for beginners
- 6:27Speaker 2: to help their faith in fitness foundations. Is to help
- 6:31Speaker 2: you to understand where your exercise and nutrition practice fit
- 6:34Speaker 2: in to your spiritual practice. What does it mean to
- 6:37Speaker 2: walk with God and take good care of the body
- 6:41Speaker 2: He's given you. This course will help you with just that.
- 6:44Speaker 2: In ten powerful lessons we'll address exercise, will address nutrition,
- 6:48Speaker 2: will address fasting. We'll even address rest and time management.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And through these biblically based principles you can get a
- 6:56Speaker 2: huge jump on the three things I'm about to talk about.
- 6:58Speaker 2: There should be a link right there help you get
- 7:00Speaker 2: connected to the Better Daily Beginner series Faith and fitness foundations.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Make sure you build your house on a rock, not sand.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So the three things we need to have under wraps
- 7:10Speaker 2: before considering peptides as a part of our program. First,
- 7:14Speaker 2: we need to have a regular and consistent weight training practice. Yes,
- 7:18Speaker 2: you need to learn to lift weights before these peptides
- 7:21Speaker 2: are going to be powerful and helpful for you in
- 7:23Speaker 2: stewarding your health and fitness. Why is that these peptides
- 7:27Speaker 2: have been shown while they reduce weight very consistently among individuals,
- 7:32Speaker 2: they also reduce lean body mass. Now, weight training is
- 7:35Speaker 2: important because it tells our body that the lean muscle
- 7:38Speaker 2: mass we have is really important. And if we're going
- 7:41Speaker 2: to be taking a peptide that results in lean mass loss,
- 7:46Speaker 2: then a weight training regimen will actually help the signal
- 7:49Speaker 2: to the body to retain our lean mass, to keep
- 7:51Speaker 2: our muscle mass around, so we can stay functional and healthy.
- 7:54Speaker 2: While appreciating the beneficial effects of these peptides, it should
- 7:59Speaker 2: also be noted that and research that trzepetide sees less
- 8:03Speaker 2: lean mass loss than the samaglatide, so that's important to
- 8:07Speaker 2: consider as well. The second thing that we need to
- 8:09Speaker 2: get under wraps is high nutrient density eating. What's that mean, Well,
- 8:14Speaker 2: both of these peptide paths will result in less consumption.
- 8:19Speaker 2: You'll feel fuller longer, Sometimes you might wrestle with nausea.
- 8:22Speaker 2: A lot of times, you might not feel like eating
- 8:24Speaker 2: at all, and that's not necessarily a bad thing as
- 8:27Speaker 2: long as the food we eat has lots and lots
- 8:30Speaker 2: of nutrients to feed our metabolism. Just because we are
- 8:34Speaker 2: not hungry for something doesn't mean that our body doesn't
- 8:37Speaker 2: need nutrients from our food, and so while we're eating
- 8:40Speaker 2: less and less food, it makes the food we eat
- 8:44Speaker 2: paramountly important, and so we need to be focused on
- 8:47Speaker 2: eating things that are high in nutrient density, lots of polyphenols,
- 8:51Speaker 2: lots of vitamins and minerals, and when we do, we
- 8:54Speaker 2: eat those things, even though we can only eat so
- 8:56Speaker 2: much of them, those things to support our metabolism, to
- 9:01Speaker 2: support our health processes, to nourish our body while it's
- 9:04Speaker 2: getting good at burning fat as a fuel source. An
- 9:07Speaker 2: example of this might be Let's say I would like
- 9:10Speaker 2: a snack, and if I'm on a peptide, I don't
- 9:12Speaker 2: really want to eat much of a snack, but I
- 9:15Speaker 2: am going to eat a snack. The question is which
- 9:17Speaker 2: is better for me, peanut butter crackers or blueberries. The
- 9:22Speaker 2: answer is blueberries. Blueberries are a much more high nutrient
- 9:26Speaker 2: density food than peanut butter crackers. Peanut butter crackers have
- 9:30Speaker 2: some energy in them, maybe a little bit of protein,
- 9:32Speaker 2: but there's a lot of empty calories in peanut butter crackers,
- 9:35Speaker 2: whereas blueberries have lots of fiber, lots of nutrient density.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And that's going to help my metabolism and my body
- 9:42Speaker 2: with that little bit that I'm willing to eat. And finally,
- 9:45Speaker 2: the third thing that I need to be considering if
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm going to add peptides to my program is whether
- 9:51Speaker 2: or not I'm consuming enough protein. Remember that lean body
- 9:55Speaker 2: mass loss is very significant in both the GLP one
- 9:58Speaker 2: and the GLP one on GIP peptides. In the primary
- 10:03Speaker 2: way that I can support my body and help it
- 10:05Speaker 2: to hold on to lean body mass is to consume
- 10:08Speaker 2: adequate grams of protein. Now, the clients that I've worked
- 10:12Speaker 2: with who have used ZEP bound Er Manjaro in their
- 10:15Speaker 2: program have reported that they really don't feel like eating
- 10:18Speaker 2: much at dinner time, or lunchtime, or even breakfast, and
- 10:21Speaker 2: so it's extremely important that they start with good protein,
- 10:25Speaker 2: something like eggs or chicken or fish, to make sure
- 10:29Speaker 2: that they're getting protein before they feel too full to
- 10:33Speaker 2: consume any more food. Again, this practice on a regular
- 10:37Speaker 2: basis will help individuals see very positive and beneficial results
- 10:41Speaker 2: from these peptides while mitigating some of those less desirable
- 10:45Speaker 2: results like lean muscle mass. So I can hear you saying, hey,
- 10:48Speaker 2: coach Alex, that was a lot. Here's a quick review.
- 10:50Speaker 2: If you're considering making peptides a part of your program
- 10:53Speaker 2: to see whether or not that would be beneficial for you,
- 10:56Speaker 2: it's very very important that you've already established these three
- 10:59Speaker 2: very powerful habits. It's one weight training consistency, two high
- 11:03Speaker 2: nutrient density eating and three adequate protein consumption daily. If
- 11:08Speaker 2: you have these habits down and you've been doing them
- 11:11Speaker 2: for at least twelve weeks, then introducing a peptide to
- 11:14Speaker 2: your program will one help you build on that foundation
- 11:18Speaker 2: and see accelerated results, but two, it will also keep
- 11:21Speaker 2: you from developing some bad habits that will see this
- 11:24Speaker 2: peptide hurting your health over time rather than helping you.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So now the big question should you add peptides to
- 11:30Speaker 2: your program? And if so, which peptide should you add?
- 11:33Speaker 2: So let's say right now you're doing everything right, You're like,
- 11:36Speaker 2: all right, coach, I'll pause. I'm going to build a
- 11:39Speaker 2: foundation of health and fitness first in my life before
- 11:42Speaker 2: trying to add these to my program to see the benefits,
- 11:45Speaker 2: and that would be awesome. The Better Daily Beginner series
- 11:48Speaker 2: Faith and Fitness Foundations knocking out all ten of those
- 11:51Speaker 2: things that you need to know to build a healthy
- 11:54Speaker 2: and powerful foundation to make the most of the body
- 11:57Speaker 2: God's given you. You've done all those things and you're like, okay,
- 12:00Speaker 2: now what well? I need you to talk to your
- 12:02Speaker 2: doctor because there's an important few decisions that need to
- 12:05Speaker 2: be made here and some negative effects that you should
- 12:08Speaker 2: know about before starting peptides into your program, So while
- 12:11Speaker 2: you're talking to your doctor, you should ask one, should
- 12:14Speaker 2: I be on a symaglatide or should I be on
- 12:16Speaker 2: a truzepetite. Samagnetides have been around a lot longer. They
- 12:20Speaker 2: seem to have less intense negative gastric effects, meaning less nausea,
- 12:27Speaker 2: less diarrhea, that sort of thing. However, they also seem
- 12:31Speaker 2: to have some of the increased incidents of more severe
- 12:34Speaker 2: effects like pancreatitis. Another negative on the symagnatide side is
- 12:38Speaker 2: increased muscle loss versus those turzepetites. On the other hand,
- 12:42Speaker 2: the turzepetites seem to have slightly more intense gastrointestinal issues
- 12:47Speaker 2: like nausea or diarrhea. Those would be considered minor side effects,
- 12:51Speaker 2: but in the research it also shows that if you
- 12:53Speaker 2: have a family history of thyroid disease like thyroid cancer,
- 12:57Speaker 2: or if you're currently being treated for something like hype
- 13:00Speaker 2: both thyroidism, it's really worth speaking to your doctor about
- 13:03Speaker 2: whether or not that pathway would increase your major and
- 13:07Speaker 2: negative side effects. At the end of the day, you,
- 13:10Speaker 2: your doctor, and your insurance will have to figure out
- 13:13Speaker 2: which one of those are the best fit for you.
- 13:15Speaker 2: When it comes to peptides, one size does not fit all.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It's so important that you have the support you need
- 13:21Speaker 2: to make a wise decision and to monitor the positive
- 13:25Speaker 2: benefits while mediating those negative side effects. So what now, Well,
- 13:29Speaker 2: by now, I hope you have all the information you
- 13:31Speaker 2: need to know where you need to start with regard
- 13:33Speaker 2: to adding peptides as a part of your health and
- 13:36Speaker 2: fitness program. To be a good steward of the body
- 13:38Speaker 2: God's given you, you might need to start at square
- 13:41Speaker 2: one by first adding good exercise and good nutrition practices
- 13:45Speaker 2: to your day to day before considering making peptides a
- 13:48Speaker 2: part of the process. Again, I would refer you to
- 13:50Speaker 2: our Better Daily Beginner series Faith in Fitness Foundations to
- 13:54Speaker 2: give you a strong and powerful starting point to be
- 13:57Speaker 2: able to add something like peptides to your practice. Or
- 14:00Speaker 2: you might be at the step where you need to
- 14:02Speaker 2: have a conversation with your doctor about whether or not
- 14:05Speaker 2: peptides are right for you given your medical history, and
- 14:08Speaker 2: which one of those peptide classes would be the most beneficial.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Whatever step you're on, I want to pray with you
- 14:14Speaker 2: about your decision to make peptides a part of your practice.
- 14:18Speaker 2: So bow your head and repeat after me. Father God,
- 14:21Speaker 2: thank you so much for this body you've given me.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I want to learn how to be a good steward
- 14:27Speaker 2: of it. I need you to teach me how to
- 14:31Speaker 2: make the most of the body you've given me. Lord,
- 14:37Speaker 2: Please teach me on a daily basis to exercise well
- 14:42Speaker 2: and defeed myself well. And that's not an easy process
- 14:47Speaker 2: and I've struggled with it in the past. And Lord,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I pray that if peptides need to be a part
- 14:53Speaker 2: of my program, that you'll give me wisdom, clarity and peace.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I pray that what I do with my body glorifies you.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Thank you for drawing near to me. In Jesus' name. Amen,
