- 0:23Speaker 1: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:27Speaker 1: with us inside the treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley, along with
- 0:31Speaker 1: Trey Trenholm and Jerry Caldwell. Today is Fred Day, July
- 0:37Speaker 1: twenty fifth, twenty twenty five. We are at the end
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the week. I hope you've had a good week.
- 0:44Speaker 1: If so, we're gonna make it better. If you've had
- 0:47Speaker 1: a bad week, Yeah, we're gonna make it better. We're
- 0:51Speaker 1: gonna make it all better inside the treehouse.
- 0:54Speaker 2: We're gonna do that by belittling one man's grand idea.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I love this headline.
- 1:01Speaker 1: A Texas man moved to Russia for traditional values and
- 1:05Speaker 1: was promptly sent to the front lines of.
- 1:07Speaker 2: The Ukraine War.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Oh, it's just I just it.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Makes my heart swell. It really does, Derek. That sounds
- 1:25Speaker 1: karmic in some way. Derek Huffman thought joining the Russian
- 1:30Speaker 1: military would be a shortcut to citizenship in a way
- 1:33Speaker 1: to earn respect in his new homeland. The Texas father
- 1:37Speaker 1: of three uprooted his family for a fresh start in
- 1:41Speaker 1: Putin's Russia, drawn in by promises of traditional values, conservative
- 1:46Speaker 1: culture and a welding.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Job, but not war.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Now he's facing Ukraine's front lines. After just three weeks
- 1:53Speaker 1: of rushed training, he joined Russia's military under false promises
- 2:01Speaker 1: that he'd serve as a mechanic.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Or war correspondent.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Instead, he was placed in a foreigner filled unit heading
- 2:07Speaker 1: into combat. His wife says he feels like he's being
- 2:11Speaker 1: thrown to the wolves and is pleading on social media
- 2:13Speaker 1: for his reassignment, while also reporting the family.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Has not received any of his pay or bonus.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Their journey was backed by Putin propagandist Tim Kirby's American
- 2:24Speaker 1: Village Project, which targets disillusioned US conservatives looking to flee
- 2:29Speaker 1: woke America. But Huffman's case exposes the harsh reality behind
- 2:33Speaker 1: the propaganda, broken promises, financial strain, and front line danger. Now,
- 2:39Speaker 1: like I said, this is a foreigner filled unit, so
- 2:41Speaker 1: he's not alone. Over five hundred foreign nationals have died
- 2:45Speaker 1: fighting for Russia crazy, from welder to soldier, from Texas
- 2:52Speaker 1: to a trench in Ukraine. The Huffman family is now praying.
- 2:56Speaker 2: For a miracle and a way out.
- 2:59Speaker 1: New news is if he lives, you got a Disney
- 3:01Speaker 1: movie on your hands. Bad news is well hopefully obvious.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Don't move to Russia. Kids don't trust Putin? Why do
- 3:16Speaker 1: I have to say these things?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Wow? When did when did he move? When did this happen? Uh?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Let me look, let's see it was three weeks of
- 3:28Speaker 1: rushed training. I don't see specific dates on this story.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I'm assuming though, that it was after the war with
- 3:41Speaker 4: Ukraine had started.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yes, I mean, because it's been going on for a while,
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's not exactly brand new.
- 3:48Speaker 4: This is where history can be such a valuable teacher
- 3:55Speaker 4: of how Russians treat their soldiers. Yeah, I mean, there's
- 4:00Speaker 4: there's literally over a century of data that says Russians
- 4:06Speaker 4: have very little regard for their soldiers.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Does it say, hold, as gentleman, was he is forty six,
- 4:14Speaker 1: which is a great age to go to war.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'm turning forty six in a few months, and I
- 4:22Speaker 1: have a hard time getting out of bed, let alone
- 4:24Speaker 1: out of a trench, or let alone out of the
- 4:26Speaker 1: way of a grenade blast.
- 4:28Speaker 4: And you know, even even during the draft days, the
- 4:33Speaker 4: United States military would not take you at this age.
- 4:36Speaker 4: That's right, But the Russians happily will go. Look at
- 4:41Speaker 4: what Putin does to his friends that get on his
- 4:44Speaker 4: bad side. They remarkably end up dead.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yes, remarkably and in very unmysterious circumstances. Yeah, Like, it's
- 4:54Speaker 1: amazing how many of Putin's friends are so suicidal?
- 4:58Speaker 4: Yeah, or stumble upon you know, radiation.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's I mean, who hasn't stumbled upon radiation while
- 5:05Speaker 1: walking the dog?
- 5:09Speaker 2: It's truly, truly fascinating.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm looking at a different story here. I don't see
- 5:14Speaker 1: a date of when he moved his family to Russia,
- 5:19Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure this is recent because every news
- 5:22Speaker 1: story I'm seeing is within a few days of each other.
- 5:26Speaker 4: That, you know, it's so let's see the war. I mean,
- 5:30Speaker 4: I'm sure it's been with the last what's up. Hell,
- 5:33Speaker 4: we're going on three years now, probably of that. M Yeah, brilliant,
- 5:41Speaker 4: thanks for leaving Texas.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, the confused wife claims that even after a month
- 5:46Speaker 1: of service, so he's been in service for just over
- 5:50Speaker 1: a month.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm still fascinated though that this part of the story
- 5:57Speaker 1: is well fascinating. He's a forty six year old man
- 6:02Speaker 1: who has no prior military experience. He underwent training in
- 6:05Speaker 1: a language he does not understand, and was promptly shipped
- 6:08Speaker 1: off to fight on the front lines.
- 6:10Speaker 4: But under the pretenses that he might be a war
- 6:12Speaker 4: correspondent and he doesn't speak Russian.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Look, there were signs that not everything was on the
- 6:23Speaker 1: up and up. He just clearly could not read them. Nah,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I will say this, I will say this and I
- 6:33Speaker 1: and I don't say this lightly. The dildo of consequence
- 6:37Speaker 1: rarely arrives lubricated.
- 6:43Speaker 4: That was deep, man, So was it?
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yep? You're in the Treehouse.

- 7:23Speaker 1: the arrow coming out of it, and send the show
- 7:26Speaker 1: to a friend.
- 7:27Speaker 2: The tree House is open. Let's grow.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I did something the other day that I would never
- 7:35Speaker 1: ever have recommended had I not experienced it for myself.
- 7:41Speaker 2: The baby day at Alamo Draft House.
- 7:46Speaker 4: You heard him a strap on?
- 7:53Speaker 1: No, No, I'm talking about the baby day at Alamo
- 7:57Speaker 1: Draft House.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Are you?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Are you guys aware of this? At Alamo draft House,
- 8:00Speaker 2: the movie place.
- 8:02Speaker 7: I don't wear a baby day.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I was not either until the other day. So every
- 8:07Speaker 1: show so at Alamo Draft House, every show before two
- 8:10Speaker 1: pm on Tuesdays is a baby day screening with adult
- 8:16Speaker 1: movies in a baby friendly environment.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I had no idea this existed.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We didn't know what it was until we saw it
- 8:24Speaker 1: on the ticket that we had already purchased online when
- 8:27Speaker 1: we purchased a ticket to go see a movie on
- 8:29Speaker 1: Tuesday because we wanted to go get good Alamo Draft
- 8:32Speaker 1: House popcorn and I wanted and Tara wanted to see
- 8:35Speaker 1: them the Superman movie. Okay, she really What really happened
- 8:39Speaker 1: is she just wanted really good popcorn and was fine
- 8:41Speaker 1: to see a movie.
- 8:42Speaker 2: That's how that works in my house. And I wanted
- 8:44Speaker 2: to see it again.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So we went to the middle of the day showing
- 8:47Speaker 1: on Tuesday at Alamo Draft House to Superman so she
- 8:49Speaker 1: could get some popcorn, and it turns out we're surrounded
- 8:52Speaker 1: by babies. Had no idea, didn't know this was a thing.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Didn't know it was a thing until we read it
- 8:56Speaker 1: on the ticket itself. But every show before two pm
- 9:00Speaker 1: on Tuesdays is a baby day, screening adult movies in
- 9:03Speaker 1: a baby friendly environment. According to the Alamo Draft House website,
- 9:07Speaker 1: when you're a parent with a little bundle of joy
- 9:09Speaker 1: at home, it's really hard to find the time to
- 9:11Speaker 1: see an adult movie. Rather, it used to be really hard,
- 9:14Speaker 1: because Baby Day is back at Alamo Draftthouse. Keep in
- 9:16Speaker 1: mind that the whole premise of the Alamo Draft House
- 9:20Speaker 1: is that it will kick you out if you are allowed,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and it doesn't care who you are.
- 9:25Speaker 2: It kicked out Madonna.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That's part of the reason why Alamo Draftthouse became a
- 9:29Speaker 1: national chain because the og location kicked Madonna out of
- 9:33Speaker 1: a theater because she was being unruly, and everyone said,
- 9:36Speaker 1: that's the theater I want to go to, because if
- 9:38Speaker 1: they'll kick out a loud Madonna, they'll kick out anybody.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So anyway, they've now created a safe space for you
- 9:46Speaker 1: to take your baby to the movies. And I gotta say,
- 9:52Speaker 1: we sat through a two hour Superhero movie surrounded by babies,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and you know what, they were better behaved than adults
- 9:58Speaker 1: are in movies these days.
- 10:02Speaker 7: Not surprising.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Not a gamble I would be willing to take.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And normally I'd agree with you, Trey, but these days,
- 10:08Speaker 1: going to any movie with other humans is a gamble.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And I will say I have had way more movies
- 10:15Speaker 1: ruined by adults than I have babies. Don't get me wrong,
- 10:21Speaker 1: babies have ruined a couple of movies here and there.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But leave it up to an adult to just ruin everything.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Any special menu items or concessions or anything.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Nope, just teara with her. Alamo Drafthouse popcorn with popcorn
- 10:34Speaker 1: salt and real butter. And we've looked, We've looked around.
- 10:39Speaker 1: She is the Indiana Jones of movie popcorn. Alamo Draft
- 10:43Speaker 1: House has, without a doubt, the best movie popcorn.
- 10:45Speaker 2: On the planet.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I can agree with that, well, at least in North
- 10:50Speaker 1: Texas area, because that's where we've looked so far.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But now they actually say so again. And this is
- 10:56Speaker 2: this is not an ad by the way, for Alamo
- 10:58Speaker 2: Draft House.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They technically still the foundation money from screenings we did
- 11:02Speaker 1: there years ago. I'm just surprised that this whole thing exists.
- 11:08Speaker 1: A period b exists at a movie theater known for,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, making things quiet for the movie going experience.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So they're carving out of space, you know, for adults
- 11:18Speaker 1: that take their kids bankruptcy.
- 11:20Speaker 4: You'll change a fella, It's right, it really will.
- 11:23Speaker 2: All of a sudden, you're open to kids.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they say, Baby Day is all about giving parents
- 11:29Speaker 1: the chance to see growing up movies in a baby
- 11:31Speaker 1: friendly environment. They keep the lights a little bit brighter
- 11:34Speaker 1: so you can find their favorite binki in the diaper bag.
- 11:37Speaker 1: The sound is a little bit lower so they can
- 11:40Speaker 1: snooze right through the film. And this is true because
- 11:43Speaker 1: I saw Superman at the theater on Saint Thomas before
- 11:46Speaker 1: we came to Texas, and that is not.
- 11:49Speaker 2: A good theater.
- 11:50Speaker 1: That is, that's just not That's the only theater within
- 11:54Speaker 1: forty miles that doesn't have water separating it. So that's
- 11:59Speaker 1: my only option, not a great theater. If I could
- 12:02Speaker 1: compare it to a movie theater in the States, it
- 12:04Speaker 1: would be whatever your favorite movie theater was circ in
- 12:07Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two. Okay, Okay, So seeing it in a
- 12:15Speaker 1: state side theater the other day, the sound was definitely lower.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination. I
- 12:22Speaker 1: could just tell it was a little bit lower than
- 12:24Speaker 1: what I had seen, you know, previously, but still very manageable.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I was kind of surprised by that. So anyway, they
- 12:30Speaker 1: keep the brights, They keep the lights a little bit brighter.
- 12:32Speaker 1: The sound does a little bit lower, and they don't
- 12:34Speaker 1: kick out anyone for crying because you know, babies. So
- 12:39Speaker 1: just keep that in mind if you ever feel like
- 12:41Speaker 1: a Tuesday matinee at the Alamo Draft House because you're
- 12:43Speaker 1: gonna get babies.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Yeah. I would think if if I were like a
- 12:50Speaker 4: urology or stuff, that I would be handing out, you know,
- 12:53Speaker 4: half price to the sectomies if you were somehow got
- 12:56Speaker 4: stuck in that hell.
- 12:59Speaker 7: Said, I don't get kicked out for craying because babies, yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 7: or parents yeah, for that matter.
- 13:08Speaker 4: If I walked into a theater full of babies, I
- 13:11Speaker 4: would just literally just ask what hell is this?
- 13:15Speaker 2: And you might you might welcome a vessectomy right there
- 13:17Speaker 2: on the spot.
- 13:18Speaker 4: I would probably I have been on the fence about
- 13:21Speaker 4: getting one that I am quite sure would be the
- 13:24Speaker 4: catalyst that just you know, pushed me over the snip.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 1: And ironically, you'd walk into a movie theater and use
- 13:36Speaker 1: the famous movie line, cook me big.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Yeah, don't eve worry about the anesthesia, just get in there.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Or back to a previous subject, now talked about the
- 13:50Speaker 4: million dollars no sex. You walk me into a theater
- 13:55Speaker 4: full of babies, I'd like give you the money.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Show me the money.

- 14:41Speaker 1: Off the toppier head, what is your favorite ad slogan?
- 14:45Speaker 1: If you have one off the top of your head,
- 14:48Speaker 1: do you have a favorite ad slogan? There's classics, like
- 14:52Speaker 1: from Nike, just do it. From Wendy's back in the day,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the Three Old Ladies.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Saying where's the beef subway? Eat fresh?
- 15:01Speaker 1: I mean there's many, many, many many out there. Diamonds
- 15:05Speaker 1: are forever. That might be our least favorite because we're men. Hmmm,
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'll give you, I'll give you a little time to
- 15:13Speaker 1: think about it, Okay, because right now it's time for
- 15:17Speaker 1: Little Caesars to enter the chat with their all time
- 15:21Speaker 1: ad slogan.
- 15:23Speaker 2: According to this that I saw the other day.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This was a Yelp review for Little Caesars, and it's
- 15:28Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. This is the action movie Yelp review for
- 15:35Speaker 1: Little Caesars. A man named Kevin s posted his Little
- 15:39Speaker 1: Caesar's Yelp review and it goes like an action film.
- 15:44Speaker 1: He says, stopped into this Little Caesars just trying to
- 15:46Speaker 1: get a six dollars pizza and ended up in a
- 15:48Speaker 1: full on action movie. Just as I grabbed my order,
- 15:52Speaker 1: this furious dude barges in, yelling about how I cut
- 15:55Speaker 1: him off in traffic earlier. Before I can even respond,
- 15:58Speaker 1: he throws a punch, but then out of nowhere, the
- 16:02Speaker 1: guy behind the counter at Little Caesars jumps over it
- 16:05Speaker 1: like he's been waiting for this moment his whole life,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and beats the living hell out of the guy. The
- 16:11Speaker 1: guy runs off, and the cashier just dusted himself off.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I said, are you a kaman?
- 16:15Speaker 1: And he looked at me dead in the eye and said, bitch,
- 16:18Speaker 1: this is Little Caesars. We always hot and ready five
- 16:23Speaker 1: stars will absolutely return.
- 16:27Speaker 7: Awesome.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I just just I've never thought about taking an ad
- 16:32Speaker 1: slogan and turning it into an action movie equip But
- 16:35Speaker 1: by god, bitch, we always Hot and Ready sounds really
- 16:39Speaker 1: really good.
- 16:41Speaker 4: I mean, I guess it if that was waffle House,
- 16:46Speaker 4: I'd be like, yeah, okay, I could totally see it.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 1: The difference is there is they would use the spatuel
- 16:53Speaker 1: at the waffle house.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Because they're like the waffle house chefs.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I'm sorry, the waffle house cooks are armed to the
- 17:00Speaker 1: teeth and they know how to throw all those things.
- 17:02Speaker 2: By the way.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It is great, though, when I go through and think
- 17:08Speaker 1: about all the other great ad slogans and think, Okay,
- 17:11Speaker 1: how many of these would work in this same scenario,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and they could still use the ad slogan right after
- 17:17Speaker 1: they just beat somebody up like it's an action film.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mentioned earlier, Nike, just do it.
- 17:24Speaker 2: That kind of fits. Make it your Way, Burger King,
- 17:34Speaker 2: you know something along those lines.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Actually, ano that I'm looking at some of these they
- 17:39Speaker 1: look like Subway Eat Fresh, Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's finger
- 17:45Speaker 1: licking good McDonald's. I'm loving it. These actually don't sound
- 17:49Speaker 1: like action movie equips. This sounds like porn.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Stuff takes a licking and keep it on ticking.
- 17:58Speaker 2: See what I mean.
- 18:00Speaker 7: I like Wisconsin Tourism Departments latest slogan, what's that come?
- 18:06Speaker 7: Smell our dairy air?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Okay, I believe we've stumbled across something because the Little
- 18:12Speaker 1: Caesars ad had worked for an action movie quip. But
- 18:16Speaker 1: in reality it really does sound more like a like
- 18:20Speaker 1: a porn slogan BMW the Ultimate driving Machine. Man.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Bet you can't eat just one.
- 18:33Speaker 7: Once you pop, you can't stop.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You're damn right. Coca Cola Open Happiness. This is working.
- 18:42Speaker 2: America runs on Duncan. Yeah, I'm sure Duncan, D's Nuts maybe, uh,
- 18:49Speaker 2: Subway eat Fresh. Oh, there you go, Staples. That was easy. Gatorade.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Is it in you?
- 19:04Speaker 4: Your post your post coital bliss, happiest place on Earth?
- 19:11Speaker 2: No, Kia connecting people.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Do the do oh Man.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That is really really good?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Right?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Oh, I forgot this one from Coca Cola. Taste the feeling.

- 20:55Speaker 2: I'll come up with something at some point.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So here's a headline that had me thinking one thing
- 21:00Speaker 1: but turned out to be something slightly different than I expected.
- 21:06Speaker 1: A surf instructor had her arm ripped off when she
- 21:09Speaker 1: was clipped by an Amtrak trained with no warning. The
- 21:14Speaker 1: reason why this stood out to me was because just
- 21:16Speaker 1: the other day Trey and I were waxing poetic about
- 21:19Speaker 1: our train rides.
- 21:19Speaker 2: In our lives.
- 21:20Speaker 1: We have not had any, but the ones we've had
- 21:22Speaker 1: were all magnificent, very enjoyable, a very pleasant way to travel.
- 21:27Speaker 1: And we've ridden the train in the Pacific Northwest a
- 21:30Speaker 1: couple limes, going from Seattle to Levenworth, Washington, and part
- 21:34Speaker 1: of that trip when you're going Seattle north to Everett, Washington.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You're actually out over the water, You're over the ocean,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and it looks like you're just doing the train tracks.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Over the water. There's seals, there's bald eagles, all these things.
- 21:47Speaker 2: And so when I saw that headline, I thought, did
- 21:49Speaker 2: some idiot surf instructor on a surfboard get clipped by
- 21:53Speaker 2: a train that she somehow didn't see. Not exactly.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Turns out this is when she was trying to carry
- 21:59Speaker 1: her e bike across the train tracks and she didn't
- 22:03Speaker 1: do it quickly enough. But she still swears it's the
- 22:06Speaker 1: train's fault.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Her name is Aleiah Boyd. She's twenty four.
- 22:11Speaker 1: She said she was in complete disbelief to look down
- 22:14Speaker 1: and see her arm was missing, because it had been
- 22:21Speaker 1: ripped off after being hit by an Amtrak train while
- 22:24Speaker 1: she pushed her e bike across the tracks. Now, she's
- 22:29Speaker 1: very lucky in the sense that she found the arm
- 22:32Speaker 1: and it was only, you know, several feet away, so
- 22:37Speaker 1: it was able to be reattached. So she's very lucky there,
- 22:41Speaker 1: I mean, except for the part that it was torn
- 22:43Speaker 1: off in the first place. She says there was no
- 22:45Speaker 1: train horn she says. It was like three seconds from
- 22:48Speaker 1: when I saw the train to when it happened. She says,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I just happened to have my hand still on the
- 22:52Speaker 1: bike as the train goes by. The train barely clipped
- 22:55Speaker 1: the bike just enough to take.
- 22:57Speaker 2: My arm completely off. I'm going to go.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Out on a limb here and say that it barely
- 23:01Speaker 1: clipping is not appropriate here.
- 23:04Speaker 2: If it rips off your.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Arm, I mean, well you have the whole you know,
- 23:13Speaker 4: Superman stronger than a locomotive of the big, big, big
- 23:19Speaker 4: fast deal things.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It doesn't take much to rip off an arm.
- 23:26Speaker 4: No, No, it's.
- 23:28Speaker 7: I feel like we're missing some information here. Well, I
- 23:31Speaker 7: just had a crossing, didn't see the train coming, I mean.
- 23:36Speaker 1: She says, there was no horn, which, by the way,
- 23:40Speaker 1: I've again, I've been on an Amtrak train. When it
- 23:44Speaker 1: approaches those intersections and things, it makes a sound and
- 23:48Speaker 1: I'm not even sure if that's the conductor doing it.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It might be automatic, I don't know.
- 23:54Speaker 7: And I'm sure you can see it coming from quite
- 23:56Speaker 7: a distance, regardless of whether it's a rural or urban setting.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah, trains don't just kind of out of nowhere. This
- 24:03Speaker 1: isn't back to the future. She says this happened just
- 24:08Speaker 1: before five point thirty pm on July seventh, that she
- 24:11Speaker 1: was pushing her eighty pound electric bike across the train
- 24:15Speaker 1: tracks in Ventura, Ventura, California. Miraculously, a retired firefighter had
- 24:20Speaker 1: been walking with her at the time and called paramedics.
- 24:24Speaker 1: She was airlifted to uc Rvine Medical Center, where she
- 24:27Speaker 1: underwent a grueling ten hour surgery to reattach the limb.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'd like to point out that the grueling ten hour
- 24:33Speaker 1: surgery isn't grueling for her, she's asleep.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It's grueling for the doctors.
- 24:39Speaker 1: She still has a further two surgeries scheduled, but said
- 24:43Speaker 1: she already has some feeling back in her arm, So
- 24:45Speaker 1: in one sense, she's lucky. In another sense, she might
- 24:48Speaker 1: be a huge moron.
- 24:54Speaker 4: My first question is why not ride the e bike
- 24:59Speaker 4: across the t You know, I could be a more
- 25:02Speaker 4: efficient way, But maybe I just of all the words
- 25:11Speaker 4: that would come to mind if my arm got ripped off,
- 25:15Speaker 4: disbelief is not one of them exactly.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I think I'd be really aware of what's happened and
- 25:21Speaker 1: how and why.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Did did did I forget it? Did I leave it
- 25:25Speaker 2: at home? What's yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I mean, I'm in disbelief if I can't find my car, keys.
- 25:35Speaker 2: My arm.
- 25:36Speaker 1: On the other hand, if I've if I've misplaced that
- 25:39Speaker 1: the things have gone sideways today. But then again, you
- 25:44Speaker 1: can always track those things with those those Apple air tags.
- 25:50Speaker 4: You know what, probably if perhaps that phone, that arm
- 25:53Speaker 4: was holding her phone, you don't even need an air
- 25:55Speaker 4: tag there. You go find my eye arm.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And you know what the most twenty first century thing
- 26:05Speaker 1: would be in that scenario is you look down and
- 26:07Speaker 1: realize your arm is gone and your arm was holding
- 26:11Speaker 1: your phone, and you tell the people around you, quick
- 26:14Speaker 1: grab my phone.
- 26:17Speaker 7: It was hold a meaning to the phrase keeping it
- 26:19Speaker 7: at arm's length.

- 27:17Speaker 1: Fred Day, July twenty fifth, twenty twenty five. Let's celebrate
- 27:21Speaker 1: today with birthdays. The world's first test tube baby, Louise Brown,
- 27:31Speaker 1: is forty seven today. She was born in Oldham, England,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and in that time since she's had two children of her.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Own that she conceived naturally. Look at that when for science.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Not only did the first test tube baby survive, she's
- 27:47Speaker 1: mid middle aged and got two of her own babies.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Good for her and good for science.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Other birthdays today.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Dbie Woodside is fifty six, played President Wayne Palmer on
- 27:57Speaker 1: twenty four and the Angel a minute deal on Lucifer
- 28:02Speaker 1: Say that a couple times from friends. Matt LeBlanc. He
- 28:05Speaker 1: is fifty eight today. Roger Clinton is sixty nine. That is,
- 28:10Speaker 1: of course, the brother of President Bill Clinton. But he's
- 28:15Speaker 1: a pretty big name in his own right because he's
- 28:18Speaker 1: the star of Biodome, Spyhart and Pumpkinhead two Blood Wings.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's difficult for parents to be
- 28:26Speaker 1: proud of both their children, but in this case, good on.
- 28:31Speaker 7: You Pumpkinhead too.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Man.
- 28:33Speaker 2: That's that's solid.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, it's like, yeah, you know, you
- 28:38Speaker 1: know Bill was president, but you know, Rogers in a movie.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Franchise, and Roger didn't have to put up with Hillary,
- 28:49Speaker 4: so I think he won.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I think I think that's I think that's probably the
- 28:52Speaker 1: conversation he has with Bill every Thanksgiving. David Bowie's Bowie
- 29:00Speaker 1: David Bowie. Yeah, David Bowie's widow Imon is seventy.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Today.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Sci fi fans would remember her as the shape shifter
- 29:07Speaker 1: Martya in Star Trek six The Undiscovered Country Trey.
- 29:12Speaker 4: I remember.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I know you're a Trek guy. Were Were you a
- 29:17Speaker 1: fan of the movies as well? Are you more of
- 29:18Speaker 1: a just the TV show? Because I know you're a
- 29:20Speaker 1: big Star Trek next Generation fan.
- 29:23Speaker 4: I know I like the movies. I think I was
- 29:27Speaker 4: pretty young when the first one came out, but especially
- 29:34Speaker 4: the first one I distinctly remember was The Wrath of Khan,
- 29:38Speaker 4: which I think that was two.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was, And I'm with you.
- 29:41Speaker 1: That movie scarred me because the opening of that movie
- 29:45Speaker 1: has Cardo Montalbon putting the whatever alien creature bug thing
- 29:52Speaker 1: and that dude's ear, and as a kid who had
- 29:55Speaker 1: a multitude of ear problems.
- 29:57Speaker 2: I couldn't handle that. That just wigged me the f out.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I was like, holy, mister Rourke is from jack.
- 30:09Speaker 2: See there in lies the age difference. I didn't understand
- 30:12Speaker 2: that at the time.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I didn't understand who that was for a few more years.
- 30:20Speaker 4: But uh, but yeah, I like and a mom was
- 30:24Speaker 4: actually one of the original supermodels.
- 30:26Speaker 2: That's true, very very true. Other let's see what any
- 30:32Speaker 2: there were good birthdays today?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Manny Charlton from Nazareth. Oh no, wait, sorry man, he's dead.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Sorry if you've found if you just now found that.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Out, that's my apologies for being insensitive. From Earth, Wind
- 30:45Speaker 2: and Fire. Verdine White is seventy four, still alive.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Biggest hits include Shining Star, got to Get You Into
- 30:51Speaker 1: My Life, Sing a Song, September, Boogie Woogie, Wonderland, After
- 30:54Speaker 1: the Love Is Gone, and Let's Grooves.
- 30:57Speaker 4: I will always say that one of the to me,
- 31:02Speaker 4: one of the more underrated bands of all time. They've
- 31:06Speaker 4: their hits, just they still I don't care September. I
- 31:10Speaker 4: don't care where you are you play that song. I
- 31:12Speaker 4: don't care what age, group, anything else. People will people love.
- 31:16Speaker 2: It, People make babies of that one.
- 31:20Speaker 3: September.
- 31:20Speaker 4: It's just a feel good like, that's just a happy song.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's a you know, a
- 31:27Speaker 1: testament to a band success is that not only the
- 31:30Speaker 1: music you released at the time, but decades later it
- 31:35Speaker 1: holds up. That's amazing because there's plenty of bands that
- 31:41Speaker 1: we know that we may or may not have enjoyed
- 31:45Speaker 1: at their peak, but I mean ten years later and
- 31:48Speaker 1: you're like, oh god, what was I thinking.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Limp Biscuit, Yes, yes, some Fred issues Dan.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I do, because I mean I was down
- 32:06Speaker 1: with the nookie at one point.
- 32:09Speaker 4: But here's the crazy thing. You say that they were
- 32:14Speaker 4: just on tour and sold out, like they sold out STARplex.
- 32:20Speaker 1: People are still angry, you know why, because they never
- 32:24Speaker 1: got that cookie. By the way, if if TIFFs, Treats
- 32:31Speaker 1: or Crumble is not sponsoring the Limp Biscuit tour, that's
- 32:34Speaker 1: a huge missed opportunity.
- 32:38Speaker 4: I'm just like I was. There were and gen Z
- 32:43Speaker 4: people were going to it. I'm like, again, it's kind
- 32:48Speaker 4: of like some of the things you'll like, we all
- 32:50Speaker 4: regret being limb Biscuit fans. It was a moment, but
- 32:53Speaker 4: it's not something we're proud of Why are y'all doing it?
- 32:57Speaker 4: Because I I'm quite sure, although I have not seen
- 33:01Speaker 4: one ounce of tape, I am quite sure fred Durst
- 33:05Speaker 4: has not aged well, nor has his music.
- 33:08Speaker 1: No, and maybe the reason why they can't have the
- 33:11Speaker 1: Crumble or TIFFs Treats sponsorship of Limp Biscuit is because
- 33:16Speaker 1: maybe fred Durst has eaten all of them and not
- 33:18Speaker 1: shared any I would also like to throw out that
- 33:23Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of the gen Z stare, but
- 33:26Speaker 1: if I see gen Z bragging about their attendance at
- 33:30Speaker 1: a Limp Biscuit show, They're gonna get one from me.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Yeah, but it has a lot more meaning, it's not
- 33:37Speaker 4: just a blank look.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, no, there's there. There's hate in my eyes.
- 33:50Speaker 3: You're in the Treehouse.

- 34:30Speaker 8: dot com.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Have good.
- 34:57Speaker 1: With news that should come as a surprise to absolutely
- 35:01Speaker 1: no one.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Deep Elum is full of crime.
- 35:10Speaker 1: According to the story on Fox four, Deep Elum closing
- 35:13Speaker 1: at midnight. Property owners demand the city take action against crime.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Just now. I think it's been an issue forever.
- 35:25Speaker 1: No Deep Ellum businesses and property owners are calling on
- 35:30Speaker 1: the City of Dallas to take dramatic action after a
- 35:32Speaker 1: series of violent incidents. To put it bluntly, they believe
- 35:35Speaker 1: the area is no longer safe after midnight. Oh, just
- 35:38Speaker 1: like all of our parents said. And they're proposing closing
- 35:41Speaker 1: all businesses at midnight unless a business can justify a
- 35:45Speaker 1: special use permit.
- 35:48Speaker 4: And this is how it started twenty years ago. It's
- 35:52Speaker 4: about to happen again.
- 35:54Speaker 2: This is a cyclical thing.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Well, I mean it's starts with this and then the
- 36:02Speaker 4: city's gonna do what they did before. They're gonna slap
- 36:05Speaker 4: you know, a zoning overlayover it, overlay over it, kick
- 36:08Speaker 4: out all the businesses, make you reapply, clean it up.
- 36:10Speaker 4: It'll be good for ten years, and then it'll revert
- 36:13Speaker 4: right back to its old self. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 36:17Speaker 4: right before yea. I think it was. In twenty eighteen,
- 36:19Speaker 4: Deep Elam was doing so well and so popular that
- 36:23Speaker 4: it was being talked about as replacing Austin as the
- 36:26Speaker 4: music capital of Texas.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Mm HM and den Deep Bellam deep Ellamed.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Yep, which is another way of saying people go to
- 36:33Speaker 1: people well.
- 36:35Speaker 4: And it's funny the property you know, talking about property owners,
- 36:39Speaker 4: the same thing is. And now I will say there
- 36:42Speaker 4: was one wrinkle in this and it was COVID. But
- 36:45Speaker 4: property owners get greedy. They'll least two crap clubs bars.
- 36:51Speaker 4: I mean there's one bar down there now I will
- 36:53Speaker 4: not say it's name, but it is minting money, minting money,
- 36:58Speaker 4: but it's also the source of a ton of crime
- 37:01Speaker 4: and problems and so and it's just like before. The
- 37:09Speaker 4: business owners that are making all this money, they don't
- 37:12Speaker 4: want to pay the extra money for extra security.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Yeah, just in the month of June there were three shootings.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Honestly, that seems kind of low.
- 37:20Speaker 1: The president of the Deep Elam Foundation, John Hetzel, shared
- 37:23Speaker 1: a video from social media that showed a man running
- 37:26Speaker 1: after another man punching him. It's a scene that's become
- 37:30Speaker 1: all too common and Deep Elam, he says, Deep Elm
- 37:33Speaker 1: is an absolutely amazing neighborhood during the day and in
- 37:37Speaker 1: the dinner time, evening hours. I take my five and
- 37:40Speaker 1: two year old down there on a regular basis.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I office here. I love this neighborhood.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Until we see some real policy change, it's not going
- 37:47Speaker 1: to be safe in the late night hours, and that
- 37:49Speaker 1: would be a shame for the entire region to lose
- 37:51Speaker 1: this district as a nightlife district.
- 37:54Speaker 2: He's not wrong there.
- 37:56Speaker 1: More specifically, the property owners want the city to shut
- 37:58Speaker 1: down all deep Eleum businesses at to change the behavioral
- 38:02Speaker 1: patterns of non patrons coming down here with their guns
- 38:05Speaker 1: late at night, making it scary for patrons to come
- 38:07Speaker 1: to the neighborhood and then also doing violence.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Hey listen, I was down there for a concert a
- 38:13Speaker 4: couple months ago, and it's not I think the concert
- 38:20Speaker 4: got out about ten thirty. I mean it was great.
- 38:23Speaker 4: We went to dinner before at some place, walked around,
- 38:27Speaker 4: great fun everything else. Walked out after. Like I said,
- 38:30Speaker 4: I think it was about ten thirty. I couldn't get
- 38:33Speaker 4: to my car fast enough.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Yep.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Similar scenario a couple of years ago.
- 38:37Speaker 1: AT friend was in town and wanted to meet up
- 38:39Speaker 1: in deep Ellam to say hi. Fortunately the place we
- 38:43Speaker 1: were going to was on the very corner edge of
- 38:46Speaker 1: bad deep Ellum area. But even then we knew, all right,
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's ten o'clock time to get out. Time to go,
- 38:54Speaker 1: and the next morning on the news, I think it
- 38:58Speaker 1: was an hour later, there was a order two blocks
- 39:01Speaker 1: away from where we were, and it's like, see.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and I've been around bars a lot
- 39:11Speaker 4: and it takes I'm normally not that skiddish, but yeah.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I was like, uh oh, because my date at the
- 39:18Speaker 4: time was like, oh that's good. No, uh we can
- 39:20Speaker 4: for another place time to go.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I'd like to relocate this state to someplace a little
- 39:28Speaker 1: more romantic like Compton.
- 39:36Speaker 2: For all things Treehouse, go to Treehouse on Air dot com.
