- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast in moderation, episode 47 or something like that.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Close enough it might be half that I don't know, doesn't matter.
- 0:29Speaker 1: But what does matter, I'll tell you, is we have a tremendous guest which we've been told we haven't been doing very well at introducing our guests, and you know what?
- 0:36Speaker 1: I actually agree, we're not really good at that.
- 0:39Speaker 2: So, shaila, we've got you, we've got Shaila.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Today she's a registered dietitian.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Why don't we let her introduce herself, because she's probably better at that than I would.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, that would be nice, because this is my first time meeting her as well.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So you know, liam has told me absolutely nothing about you, so please introduce yourself.
- 0:57Speaker 1: He's probably.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You probably should talk about yourself a little bit on our podcast, like that.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You know that might be helpful.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I'm Shaila.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a dietitian, I'm from Maryland, and what else should?
- 1:11Speaker 1: I even say what got you interested in food?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Why, why, why you become dietitian.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Why you be dietitian?
- 1:16Speaker 3: I was like a really hardcore vegan in high school, like very much so.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Every I met Dr like everybody knew you were vegan.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Everyone knew I was vegan.
- 1:26Speaker 1: If someone's vegan, they know you're vegan.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Like everyone knew I was vegan and it was everyone's problem.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I met Dr Gregor.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I met Dr Barnard.
- 1:34Speaker 1: You did See, I didn't even know this.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I'm there, we go.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I've met all of them, I've worked with them, I've all to everything.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I've news articles written about it.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's just so, yeah, so that's.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And then I'm assuming that all came crumbling down at some point.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It did.
- 1:49Speaker 3: You know I would call it.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It actually crumbled down, though, like what.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I became a RD in June.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I'm a very new RD and then, but like I saw me being in twenty twenty one, so like this is, I don't know, kind of new.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean not that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So now you just infiltrate the vegans and you take them down from the inside.
- 2:07Speaker 3: So essentially no, but sometimes I'll get like hate comments from vegans and I'm like I know who you are, I know what you are, I know the arguments you're using and it's really not wise right now like this.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Don't be like this.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Don't be like this with me.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I have sympathy for you.
- 2:22Speaker 1: We're here, I name myself the plant slant and I say to people like coming after me, I'm like listen.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I'm trying to give people more place, but I'm not, could I just I hate to tell you guys this.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I hate to tell you guys this, but there is a very strict carnivore in this room with me.
- 2:37Speaker 2: That's like getting really upset that you're talking about veganism.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I mean, he is so upset right now.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And he's leaving the camera right now.
- 2:47Speaker 1: He's so mad, he doesn't want to be seen.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I used to eat it because earlier he was like attacking the microphone.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He knew it so yeah, yeah, you knew it.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I mean that is interesting.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And I mean I have I experienced some health issues.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I didn't want to think my diet was part of it, so I did everything I could.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I said, hey, what if?
- 3:11Speaker 3: I maybe expanded a little bit, what if, what if?
- 3:14Speaker 3: And I started to feel a little better.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And here I am.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So and I still eat a lot of plants.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I still have a lot of heavy plant based days.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Sometimes I accidentally eat vegan all day, it happens.
- 3:23Speaker 3: But yeah, now I'm like super interested in just like I don't know.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I've always just been interested in eating everything.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It sounds like the name of an album cover or something like that Basically like literally like sometimes that's my like my lunch today.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Like it was like it's just, it's just what I packed, so like I had no idea what I mean.
- 3:39Speaker 3: It's just like.
- 3:40Speaker 3: So now I just think about food a lot differently and I'm not so like freaking dogmatic about really anything OK, and I feel like as a dietitian in practice that's very important for me and I try to convey that on my page.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's very important because fish is delicious.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Fish is very much, post a lot of seafood videos.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Maybe, rob, you'll see as you look my content out.
- 4:00Speaker 3: But yeah, I post a lot about seafood because I like it.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Good, that's good.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I will say I you know, being in school right now to be a dietitian in school nutrition, it sort of forces you to release some of your dogmatic ideas.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Because I mean, I, when I started getting interested in nutrition, I was like obsessed with finding like the holy grail of diets, like, oh, I'm going to find the best diet that's like going to solve all the problems and help the people.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And then you kind of get into it and you're like, ah, fuck, nope.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Everyone appears to be different which is weird.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I didn't know that before.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Apparently, everyone's different and it has is in different situations.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So you kind of just have to help people you know, one on one, which is kind of difficult, because then you get into social media and you're like oh, I'm talking to thousands of people now, so I don't, you know, you've experienced this, shiloh, I know, I saw it here most recently where it's like you'll say like hey, this is healthy, and people like it's not healthy for me because I'm allergic to it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And you're like well, yes.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Please.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I understand it's like peanuts are good, but if you're going to die from eating peanuts, I would suggest you don't.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You don't eat peanuts.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I'm allergic to peanuts.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Am I going to tell everyone to not eat peanuts?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Absolutely not, because I have common sense.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I'm not going to say that's not.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Well, that means you're doing social media wrong.
- 5:14Speaker 2: You're supposed to fearmonger the peanuts because you're allergic to them.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I mean, if you were going to go full on Paul Saladino, carnivore MD and just be like, yeah, it's got gluten and people who have gluten intolerance have problems with gluten.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Therefore, everybody does Very simple yeah, there we go.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not going to say broccoli is horrible because it can, because it has goitrogens in it and it's going to you know, it makes people fart a lot.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Going to do that?
- 5:39Speaker 3: Oh.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And now people are like oh, I have hypothyroidism, no, I can't eat broccoli.
- 5:43Speaker 3: He's going to mess with my life Like oh my gosh.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Well, that brings me, ok, that brings me to the thing I think we need to start this conversation off with, and I think we all know, because you know it's really been on our minds recently, I don't think I even have to say it.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So, shaila, just take it away with what topic we need to go over.
- 5:58Speaker 3: What Fibers that what it is?
- 6:02Speaker 1: It is that it's close that?
- 6:04Speaker 1: No, I want to start this fucking podcast with a sugar-free gummy bears.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Motherfucker.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I have been thinking about these damn sugar-free gummy bears?
- 6:12Speaker 1: for a long time now in the reviews.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Please, if you're listening to this podcast and you haven't seen the reviews for sugar-free gummy bears, please stop listening.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Let's go listen to that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Pick back up, because it is.
- 6:21Speaker 1: It's a trip.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's an absolute trip.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So, essentially, sugar-free gummy bears are used by making sugar alcohols.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Now, shaila, correct me if I'm wrong here from my understanding, sugar alcohols cause GI upset for a lot of people because they digest more slowly and therefore they ferment in your gut and they can even draw more, more water in which can give me a laxative Like yeah, so first for people.
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know there's stories of people eating like a whole bag of them and not realizing that everyone's different.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I can handle sugar, alcohols.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say that.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Then there's us and we're just like snacking on the bags of them and just like whatever so don't do that, people Don't do that if you haven't been eating lots of fiber.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I feel like you have like a stomach of steel or something I really do.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't remember the last time I really like ate something was like oh no, I'm upset like I can just plow through.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Food, not food, grass, doesn't matter.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I'm sure I could eat it and just be told he's actually talked about eating grass on this podcast before I'm all about eating cheap.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And what is cheaper than the most abundant place?
- 7:32Speaker 3: you can go and grab outside, absolutely.
- 7:34Speaker 3: We talk about fiber.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We never talk about grass.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you know, we're all about affordability.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Plant on social media and said grass was anti-inflammatory, thousands would go outside and try.
- 7:50Speaker 2: We found our new product to talk.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Like grass.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Use all the picture made of grass.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I mean it's green, you just blend it up.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm just saying, like it wouldn't be, it wouldn't sell awful, like that's all.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'm saying we wouldn't.
- 8:04Speaker 1: We probably wouldn't be millionaires, but we do.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Ok, we've been saying yeah, but yeah, but yeah, you know the sugar.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm just selling it anyway.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Frey, by listening, you got to look up like the Haribo sugar free gummy bears Like I, and it's similar with them.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Have you seen like yes, have you guys seen smart sweets Like I'm in a problem.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They have it in Canada, so yeah, we do yeah, smart, we surprise, we do.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm actually, I'm really surprised.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Whenever Canada has anything, I'm like, oh good for you guys.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you're awesome, you've got a thing, a shiny new toy you can look at.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So the smart sweets aren't sugar alcohols, but they do have a tremendous amount of fiber in them.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, they're tapioca starch, aren't they?
- 8:48Speaker 1: Typically tapioca starch.
- 8:50Speaker 1: They can have different ones in there and they use other sweeteners stevia, allulose stuff like that, which I want to sort of back to allulose in a second, because I've been getting a lot of people asked about that.
- 9:00Speaker 1: But yeah, the smart sweets, they just have a lot of fiber in them which again can kind of have that laxative like effect, and I definitely want to get into fiber a little bit here.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So you know, shaila, what's your take on like the, because I get asked about all the time.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm sure you do the foods with like added fiber, the smart sweets, that sort of thing.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Right, I know I've been getting a lot of questions about that like olipop, olipop, like yeah, all that stuff, and I just feel like let's just call a spade a spade.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Most people are getting about 10 grams If I'm being generous of fiber yeah, if you're being generous that's impressive.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It's impressively bad like.
- 10:12Speaker 3: So let's be real.
- 10:13Speaker 3: But you know, those added things A I kind of feel like people like that that don't have that much fiber normally probably would not benefit from something like a SmartSweets, because it might mess them up.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Because if you eat eight grams and all of a sudden you're eating 20 and one sitting and this is your one day and month, years of having 20 plus grams of fiber.
- 10:35Speaker 3: You're probably gonna have some discomfort.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It's probably gonna make you feel better.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 3: And really it's like products like that keto breads, you know, smartsweets, stuff like that that have like a lot in one thing, versus if you got it from Whole Foods, you'd have to eat a pretty significant amount to reach that high of an amount.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So that's like my one thing where I'm like you know, at least be aware of that if you're gonna eat those.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Otherwise, though, I feel like you know, like olipops have like what.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Eight grams.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Eight grams yeah, hey, if that gets your number up.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Okay, you know what I mean.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Preferably you get this from Whole Foods, preferably we get this in Lifestyles twigs.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Third, though, as you said in your recent video, Liam, those eye pops are like $3 again, and I know this because I like them and it's annoying.
- 11:23Speaker 3: You know, it's like for a lot of reasons, I feel like people shouldn't rely on those products, even though, like you know, numerically they can help you reach a number.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But, like you know, yeah, I mean, when it comes to olipop, it's the price more than anything.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Every time I look at it, even if I'm buying one for a video, I stare at it before I buy it.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And I'm like there's no way this price is real.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Like there's no way they're charging $3 for a goddamn can of healthy soda, like just fucking give me I'm buying a bullet though I can get, though it's so I'll buy one, like I'll buy one for a video and I'm like I better get this right on the first take, like when I open it up because I don't have another one to open up, because I'm not buying, I'm not paying $6 for two cans, I just I can rant the rest of the episode about how much this cost.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Two cans of soda would cost me my entire savings.
- 12:16Speaker 2: For the entire thing, I earn off a TikTok.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'll look at this.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I've got 18 grams of fiber and it tastes shitty.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Okay, some of the olipops tastes fine, the grape is fine, but most of them Grape is good.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Grape is good.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I like grape.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Well, just my favorite.
- 12:31Speaker 1: But there's other ones that I was.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I couldn't drink, I had to get rid of, yeah, so just be careful that the number.
- 12:40Speaker 1: The other thing I wanted to say, though, is a lot of the foods with added fiber are soluble fiber.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So the smart sweets we were talking about soluble tapioca fiber and soluble fiber.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Do you want to?
- 12:48Speaker 1: Why don't you give us like a little intro?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Can you give us a little intro and the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Maybe Jala?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Yeah, so soluble fiber basically acts like a gel, draws water and basically turns into gel.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Think of chia seeds when they're soaked in water.
- 13:04Speaker 3: You put chia seeds in the milk in, and then it goes like that that's soluble fiber, insoluble fiber.
- 13:11Speaker 3: On the other hand, it just really adds bulk to your stool.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Water is not going to absorb.
- 13:14Speaker 3: It's really going to come right through you as it entered Soluble fiber ish in the same way as well, but that's going to undergo something called short chain fatty acid conversion.
- 13:24Speaker 3: So basically, that's the fiber that offers some sort of benefit as far as gut health, flora, things like that.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Right, so that draws in water.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Soluble fiber will bring in water.
- 13:36Speaker 1: So, if you have, I think the lilies gummies have like 25, 26 grams of fiber in a little bag.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah, there's 70 calories.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So you're looking like ooh 70 calories.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I could eat three bags of this and be fine.
- 13:47Speaker 1: No, you will not be fine.
- 13:49Speaker 2: You will have stories to tell to your children than their children's children.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But you will have a lot of calories that day, that is true, but it draws a lot of water in it and you end up fighting for your life in the bathroom.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Exactly because and that's another thing I always advise, like when I speak to people and stuff who are trying to up their fiber intake please up your water intake, because you know it happens to kind of be that way that a lot of people who don't eat enough fiber also do not drink enough water.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Right, and that's such a great reason why vegetables are a great way to increase your fiber intake.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I thought we were going back to olifiber and water Booth comes with water.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry olipop is out of my price range here, people.
- 14:27Speaker 3: It's like 10 bucks a can in Canada.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Like how much.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Right, I think it's like six, maybe five.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You put down payments on olipop and I'll be back.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'm going to get this, can I promise One of these days?
- 14:44Speaker 3: Oh, it tastes, terrible.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Lay away, lay away.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Oh shit, that's fucking great.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm going to ask for Christmas because that's all I get.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Anyway, all right, we'll only talk about the expensive olipop a few more times, I promise.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Now I want to get into.
- 14:58Speaker 1: So we're talking about insoluble fiber.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Now that is correct me if I'm wrong.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I believe what you get in keto wraps and stuff like that, I believe they use a lot of insoluble fiber in the wraps.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So, as far as I'm aware and I haven't looked this up in a minute but soluble fiber does contain some calories in it.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It contains about two, I believe, ish calories.
- 15:21Speaker 1: For anyone who doesn't know, a gram of carbohydrates contains four calories per gram, whereas a gram of fiber soluble will give you about two calories per gram, whereas insoluble fiber correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's basically none right.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Our gut bacteria can feed off it in our election test, but it doesn't give us calories.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Wait, are you talking about soluble?
- 15:42Speaker 1: or insoluble, Insoluble fiber, sorry yeah insoluble?
- 15:44Speaker 3: yeah, it's basically nothing and that's why in a lot of keto wraps and stuff like that, like people who follow keto diet, they bank on those, like basically just being insoluble and not having the calories and stuff.
- 15:56Speaker 2: That's why your corn's still in your poop, yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Imagine if the imagine smart sweets did the same thing you just like little gummies.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You're like oh, I knew I had some smart sweets.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 16:09Speaker 3: And then the calories, because some people like I've had people in my fiber videos be concerned.
- 16:14Speaker 3: They're like wait, the soluble is calories.
- 16:15Speaker 3: So I'm like it's two calories a gram.
- 16:19Speaker 3: And also it's just to account for short chain fatty acid conversion.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:23Speaker 1: You're good, so I say you know it's better.
- 16:26Speaker 1: If you're like counting calories and you want to get really dogmatic and count like the soluble fiber is insoluble fiber, go ahead.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Sounds like a nightmare to me.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'll hard pass.
- 16:34Speaker 1: But yeah, so they both have.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And people ask I get asked a lot like which one's better?
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'm sure you asked that.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I mean they both have the benefits, right?
- 16:42Speaker 1: Do you have anything to say about?
- 16:45Speaker 3: I feel like they both.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Like technically I don't, and I don't even like to get technical just get fiber.
- 16:52Speaker 3: But like technically it's recommended to get more insoluble fiber, just so you can basically have shaped formed poo.
- 16:58Speaker 3: So, like most, like so many whole plant foods have both.
- 17:03Speaker 3: So I, you know people have asked me like how much should I give each?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Like if you're eating whole plant foods, like you're likely going to get both in each food.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Like sometimes some foods have more soluble, some foods have more insoluble, but a lot of them have both, kind of for that purpose.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Like I mean that sounds awful to me.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Like, okay, I'm going to plan my day around like how much soluble versus insoluble fiber?
- 17:26Speaker 2: That sounds fucking awful, I'm going to plan my day around my poop, yeah, so.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I mean this is slowly becoming the second poop episode Well we knew that from the start going into this.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Why do you know what's happening?
- 17:37Speaker 1: There's no chance.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Well, listen, we, none of us want carnivore poop, right?
- 17:40Speaker 1: None of us want like these hard little little like fucking deer or whatever.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Okay, but like, planning your day around which one you're going to get more of, just try and eat a variety of foods.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And that's why, you know like, even when it comes to added fiber, I'll have some like gummies that have soluble fiber.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You have some wraps that have insoluble fiber.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You're getting a little bit of both.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Um, you know like, and the thing I really I want to make sure and I'll make sure you back me up on this is the biggest thing you can do when it comes to fiber, because I I get so many comments of people like it destroys me, it wrecks me, it does all these things.
- 18:13Speaker 1: You have to slowly add fiber over time, like you cannot just go straight to getting those 25 grams or whatever it is.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Try and add a few more things we've talked about before.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I'm sure we can.
- 18:23Speaker 1: We could spit fire a few options like popcorn and whatnot.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that you could slowly add some fiber in and that will let your.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You know, we don't understand the gut microbiome, as far as I'm aware all that much, but we do understand it takes time for it to shift and change.
- 18:38Speaker 2: So here's what you need to do you need to buy one of those uh pet treat dispensers, fill it with the gummy sweets and only allow yourself to have one a day.
- 18:47Speaker 2: One treat a day.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I can just see someone like just turning it over and over.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I can get more of these?
- 18:56Speaker 1: Oh my God, that would be great.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Imagine someone comes to your house like what's with the listen?
- 19:00Speaker 1: Just don't just leave me alone.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Okay, I'm working on my poop, just that's all you need to know.
- 19:09Speaker 3: You know my last comment, but you know I'm I'm kekeying and hollering, but my poop is very important to me.
- 19:15Speaker 3: It really is, and I take pride in it.
- 19:18Speaker 1: It's as important what goes at this end that comes out.
- 19:21Speaker 1: The other end Got it.
- 19:22Speaker 2: What can I say?
- 19:23Speaker 2: I mean, you don't want to be distracted while you're sitting there scrolling TikTok.
- 19:29Speaker 1: What?
- 19:29Speaker 1: How many people don't like?
- 19:30Speaker 1: A ton of people get like heart attacks just from bearing down, like pooping, like.
- 19:34Speaker 1: That's why they want to give fiber to like the elderly they're like let's just make sure you don't have to bear down and have a heart attack on the toilet.
- 19:40Speaker 1: So please get your fiber in.
- 19:44Speaker 2: So, yes, slowly, that's an excellent question for when we have Dr Al-O on.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yeah, just how many heart attacks happen.
- 19:50Speaker 2: We got to get Dr Al.
- 19:51Speaker 1: How many?
- 19:52Speaker 1: First question would Dr Al comes on how many heart attacks happen because of pooping?
- 19:56Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But yeah, so you slowly add fiber in.
- 20:02Speaker 1: And another thing I've seen is that you know fermented foods can actually help, kind of, basically fermented foods kind of act as a probiotic.
- 20:10Speaker 1: You know, adding bacteria was where fiber is generally known as a prebiotic, which feeds the bacteria you have.
- 20:18Speaker 1: So possibly and this still needs more research but adding in fermented foods like kimchi, kombucha, like what are you guys have like favorite fermented foods?
- 20:30Speaker 3: I'm a kimchi gal.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I get the big one from Costco.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yes, the big one from Costco is like you guys have cost, canada has Costco.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's another thing Canada has.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Okay, yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 3: We got Costco.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Do you have the kimchi Sweden this summer and Sweden has a Costco.
- 20:48Speaker 2: A Costco.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Ironically, they don't one single.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Costco.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I was shocked.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I was, it was beyond me.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I was shocked.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Good job Canada.
- 20:57Speaker 2: We're doing better than Sweden.
- 20:58Speaker 2: We've got more than one Costco.
- 21:02Speaker 1: So yeah, kim chi is awesome.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I mean, you know, like all the fermented foods, even yogurt can add, you know, probiotics all that's yeah by adding that into your diet.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Fear fears a good one.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Kaffir is a good one.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So that's a fermented dairy drink.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Think of it kind of like gogurt.
- 21:24Speaker 2: What about Bobby's colostrum?
- 21:27Speaker 3: oh, the color Osterman that is a trip his zone.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Well, you know he works.
- 21:33Speaker 2: No, he um yeah.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Arm, arm rope man.
- 21:37Speaker 1: What a fucking terrible name for a company like.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Forget the whole.
- 21:40Speaker 1: We're taking colostrum from cows and giving it to people and we're telling him it has helping him think.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Fuck that.
- 21:45Speaker 1: The name is just terrible on its own armra.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Like that's even hard to say, yeah it's five letters, and two of them are ours.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Stop say yeah, yeah, all great options.
- 21:59Speaker 3: If you, you know, don't want to drink colostrum, just totally more mall if you don't want to pay a hundred dollars, I'm not joking, it's fucking hundred.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Forget the ollie pop.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Three dollars, three fucking hundred dollars a jar, get out of here.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Um, but by adding fermented foods and it can kind of, you know, help your gut microbiome thrive, flourish, all that great stuff.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And then adding in the fiber, slowly, over time, can adjust.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Because it's funny, because all these Carnivore people will talk about like how our ancestors only ate meat, which most of us know now like it's.
- 22:31Speaker 1: That's bullshit.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's dependent on a wide variety of factors where people were located, oh yeah, but if you look at a lot of the tribes, it's like a hundred grams of fiber a day, up to 150 grams of my birthday.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yes, I actually recently learned that, maybe like a year ago, and I was like Lot just.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Or like just and there's no ollie pop, which is just right, do it.
- 22:57Speaker 3: How did they do it?
- 22:59Speaker 2: how they make it boggles my mind every time I'm carnivore.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Md brings up the hasda studies and all those things and he's talking about how they all you know they worship meat and they're always eating meat.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And you look at the actual study and it's like, yeah, 60 to 80% of their dietary intake was like root vegetables, fruit Stuff, like that.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So I mean, and I like I've done videos, I like a hundred over a hundred grams of fiber a and I'm fine, but I didn't get there overnight, it was slowly over time.
- 23:30Speaker 2: So oh yeah and that's.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I get so many comments, people saying like oh, beans, reckoning.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I'm like that's cuz.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Beans have seven grams of fucking fiber per you know serving and you've been eating ten in a day in a day, now in one meal.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You know you're you're probably having more than one serving of beans.
- 23:48Speaker 1: So now you've doubled it.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You've literally doubled it over day and you're like, oh, my body didn't like that shocking.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you last is a water.
- 23:56Speaker 2: It you know what you can do yeah, get that kitty treat dispenser out one bean a day.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Shouldn't this be refrigerated?
- 24:04Speaker 1: Don't worry about it, it's fine, it's totally okay.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I got different beans.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I got a garbanzo.
- 24:10Speaker 1: I got a kidney bean.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I got a lime of beans.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Oh, I got a jelly bean.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I got all the beans to my bean dispenser.
- 24:21Speaker 1: But I mean, yeah, so I mean that's kind of my little right there.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Do you have anything else, like just on the, the fiber?
- 24:29Speaker 1: You know, like you know anything else you kind of want to add to the conversation, but you know they're just like gut health helping, you know, in that sort of, in that sort of area.
- 24:39Speaker 1: No, we touched it, we, we cleared it, so get your five cleared our colons of it slowly add over time for minted foods and get yourself a bean dispenser and Forgo the ollie pop, because there we go.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I see you got fucking.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Bob Flay city money.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Don't skip on the on the on all.
- 24:58Speaker 3: You know what still has me like dead.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Like I see you made this video a minute ago.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I swear I think about it once a week.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I think you posted a video of him and he pulled out a ribeye out the bag carnivore snacks.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It's next snax, in case anybody wanted to pay $40 for a dried steak in a bag.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I'm screaming.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't and I love that in the video, like it's not open either.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Like he's just like yeah, they paid me, I get money from them.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Here's this fucking Dry ass steak in a bag.
- 25:36Speaker 1: You know it's funny cuz I go to a restaurant.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'm like, can you make it as dry as possible?
- 25:40Speaker 1: And they're like sir, we can't make it any more dry than you normally eat in.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Like this is how I normally eat it.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And just this bag, completely bone-dried.
- 25:47Speaker 1: This is what I want you to do, what it's?
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's like they're trying to be jerky, but they failed halfway through and they were just like fuck it, we'll just throw it in a bag and see if people buy it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds yeah, Sounds about right yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 1: I, I'm still there, so, but that's not even as bad as the $40 yogurt that he see he sells, like there's the coconut, you're.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It's literally $40 a jar and they're supposed to say, like only eat a teaspoon, or whatever.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Like fuck that shit.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm just giving my light and fit.
- 26:17Speaker 1: It tastes better.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I saw that, according to Courtney, food elitism is selling the cheap stuff and we're supposed to be promoting the expensive stuff that doesn't go to big corporations big Kellogg getting rich off us, oh yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 3: They get asked to make videos about him, about flea city, inside I.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm like it's a dangerous rabbit hole.
- 26:49Speaker 1: I will tell you from the source it's it like.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Listen, everybody makes videos about this man.
- 26:56Speaker 3: He knows it.
- 26:57Speaker 3: He gets the attack.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I'm good If you would like to see a video about him.
- 27:03Speaker 3: There's plenty, Plenty out there.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I mean Bobby is starting to crack though, so like it.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the boot is getting pressed down harder and harder and I feel like we're we're almost there, like he's definitely he's got to be losing money by now.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Anyway, we don't have to make this, um, but yeah, so I mean, let's see.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So yeah, we talked about fiber.
- 27:26Speaker 1: I would love to just, you know I don't know how much time we have, but I'd love to just at least run through the other kind of macro nutrients would be awesome.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Just give people a quick rundown, because I think just the basics is.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I love sticking to that.
- 27:37Speaker 1: So, like protein, you know, generally guideline for just being healthy we're not talking about going to the gym, you know, what do you recommend people get for?
- 27:45Speaker 1: Like, just, you know, staying, I want to be healthy.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm a regular person, I'm a person.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I want to be healthy.
- 27:49Speaker 1: What should I do with protein?
- 27:50Speaker 1: What am I doing?
- 27:51Speaker 3: It's a normal.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Basic recommendation is point eight grams per kilogram of body weight.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Honestly, at least in my own experience, I've seen people do good with more, like one, to be honest, like even if they do moderate exercise, or like Normal, like few walks every day, or like you know what I mean.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And then I mean cuz you know Proteins.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Been that thing on social media.
- 28:18Speaker 1: No, protein was last year.
- 28:19Speaker 1: It's fiber this year.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Okay, Year of the fiber or whatever.
- 28:27Speaker 3: But yeah, like you know, social media, everyone's, like you know, high protein.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Everything the air outside when you go outside needs to be high protein, okay, and I'm just like, okay, okay, y'all.
- 28:40Speaker 3: And I feel like because now I'm gonna go on a little thing I feel like you know, if you especially depending on how I see if you are a protein powder, okay, added to your routine, but I feel like a lot of and a lot of like high protein hacks and stuff like that, yeah, it works.
- 28:55Speaker 3: But I also feel like we've gotten a little bit far from the fundamentals, I don't think.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I think social media particularly has like sort of skewed the idea and made people kind of less able to realize how Simple it is to get good amounts of protein, even if you're trying to have a high protein goal.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I was just thinking that there's a lot of foods that people don't realize are good protein sources.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I get.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Not everything needs to be a hack, not every.
- 29:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 29:22Speaker 3: I'm saying like three meals a day and like a snack or something that's like protein based, like so many things as is has protein, that you can reach your goals even if you're someone who works out like twice a week or you're someone who's, like you know, strength training four or five, six days.
- 29:37Speaker 3: But you know what I mean and I don't know that was my little brand.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I mean, if you for anybody listening that only uses freedom units like I do, it's about like one gram.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It's about half a gram of protein per pound, you know so that's.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I Know you're not really I'm the only one that understood that, so that I just wanted to make sure I know you're giving them a bone, because can I as like nothing?
- 30:02Speaker 3: We also like talk.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I talk kilograms all the time in centimeters and stuff something.
- 30:08Speaker 2: It's all give in to the metric system.
- 30:10Speaker 2: The whole thing.
- 30:13Speaker 1: We did put a man on the moon, so we're gonna use our system.
- 30:15Speaker 1: So I think so, yeah, somewhere around, like if you're, if you're going to the gym and you know You're like really focused on, you know, building muscle, that sort of thing, keep people talk about like one gram per pound, like you could go up to that if you want, but for just generally being healthy, yeah, you can eat and you can I.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I want to rant about something that kind of annoys me is I've been attacked in a lot of videos.
- 30:36Speaker 1: People like, oh, people who say in that nuts are good protein source, wrong, they're awful, it's a suffer protein.
- 30:43Speaker 1: They're dog shit.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Throw them in the trash, piss on them and burn them to death like holy shit, bro, calm down.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Like an ounce of pistachios has six grams of protein.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I know for you who's like deep throats chicken, raw chicken breasts.
- 30:56Speaker 3: That's nothing but like for your average person, like you know, peanuts, and like you know my biggest yeah, that's a good rant, because I think, and this is my biggest thing, with a lot of social media, especially in the nutrition sphere, people take an ounce of what might be a half truth and turn it into an absolute, and I so yeah that's what do well on social media.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, like nuts.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Okay, they have more fat.
- 31:23Speaker 3: You know, you, if you're trying to stay within a certain caloric deficit range thing, you probably don't want to eat a whole lot.
- 31:29Speaker 3: If you do eat a whole lot to reach your protein Go up might not be as efficient for weight loss, or you know stuff like that.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Sure, but like you can still get a decent amount of protein from them.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It's almost like you can have one handful of nuts instead of making it your entire diet.
- 31:47Speaker 1: And there it is.
- 31:48Speaker 1: There's the solution.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So, yeah, if you're trying to add some protein, you diet and you snack on nuts, yes that's.
- 31:52Speaker 1: You know a few grains in there, that stuff adds up.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Just if you're just generally trying to be healthy, yeah you could absolutely get there.
- 31:58Speaker 3: I wasn't allergic.
- 31:59Speaker 3: I would eat them, but I am.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Don't wait you're.
- 32:02Speaker 2: If you're allergic, you're not allowed on this podcast anymore.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 32:07Speaker 1: We can't ask the crunchy or creamy peanut butter, she's just do it off.
- 32:10Speaker 3: guess yeah first of all and I tried it when I was younger, like really young, it was gross, I saw.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I'm not even mad at it.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I don't even like peanut butter, so whatever whatever you have to tell you.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Okay, where's the eject button?
- 32:21Speaker 1: Whatever you gotta tell yourself, that's okay.
- 32:23Speaker 1: The peanut butter is the greatest thing ever.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So you know beans and we talk about like plant sources of protein, plant sources, absolutely added.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I see all the time people like, oh, kodiak cakes don't count because this made from wheat and wheat is not complete protein.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Yeah, the audio.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Shut the fuck up.
- 32:37Speaker 1: All plant sources.
- 32:39Speaker 1: If you're eating a balanced diet from different, from different plant sources, all that counts, it's totally great.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Plus all like the digest ability.
- 32:46Speaker 1: People like, oh, you don't digest as much of the protein.
- 32:48Speaker 1: They're like one that was based off like old, like animal models, and two, as long as you're getting enough total protein, it's fine.
- 32:54Speaker 1: This is only something people have to worry about, like developing countries.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Calm down.
- 32:57Speaker 1: So, yeah, protein, yeah, somewhere around there is great.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And then I'd love to just see a quickly touch on carbohydrates.
- 33:03Speaker 1: We talked about fiber.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You know, obviously.
- 33:07Speaker 1: You know we want people to focus on.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You know what we call like Complex carbohydrates.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I've seen some people kind of like talk like, maybe I don't like that term or whatever, but you know what's your weight.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Sorry, just like I know I've heard some people talking about like complex versus simple carbohydrates and there's like some gray area in between and just you know definitions.
- 33:28Speaker 1: It's not that you know, it's not that big deal, but it's just kind of like people talk about like oh, bagels, that simple carbs, you can't have that.
- 33:35Speaker 1: That sort of.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Thing.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Well, you know, what annoys me is the, the demonization of sugar and the, the misrepresentation of this whole thing, because carbs are sugars, that's what they are.
- 33:48Speaker 1: So yeah, if you don't know, all carbohydrates get, get broken down into simple, into simple sugars.
- 33:53Speaker 1: It's just do they take longer or longer chains because they're in you know their whole, like you look at like a whole wheat or potato or something that has resistant starch, that sort of thing.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Do you have any like recommendations for people just on carbs?
- 34:06Speaker 1: You know what to look for, that sort of thing.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 3: So I will say, you know, obviously, carbs, I would say, out of all the macros, are the most demonized, transcending Definitely.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 3: So let's start there and I think we have room for healthy discussion about carbs, about complex and simple carbs.
- 34:27Speaker 3: I think we can talk about these in appropriate ways and I think we should encourage that.
- 34:31Speaker 3: So you know the slower digesting carbs that have fiber, that have micro nutrients like vitamins and minerals and stuff like that.
- 34:38Speaker 3: That's going to be stuff like oats, which you know all of a sudden they're horrible.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Well, look, life is a fucking poison.
- 34:46Speaker 1: What can I say?
- 34:49Speaker 3: And fruits and vegetables and things like that.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Like we talked about earlier, fiber is what's going to help slow the digestion, mainly of those carbs.
- 34:56Speaker 3: It's going to help your body just process the sugar better, more efficiently, versus if you have a candy bar that really doesn't have any fiber in it.
- 35:03Speaker 3: But this is why I really like how we're, you know, kind of changing the tune of our discussion around carbs and kind of discussing how to build a plate with them.
- 35:12Speaker 3: If you know you eat a piece of cake you know what I mean.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Maybe, like I've, I try to encourage people, for perhaps, if you know that you're going to have a meal before you have that piece of cake, that's going to be good because chances are your meal is going to be protein centered.
- 35:26Speaker 3: You know you're probably right.
- 35:28Speaker 3: I have vegetable with it maybe, which is going to be fiber, and so you know your blood sugar will probably react a little better versus if you just had the cake on its own or, you know, having like a glass of milk with it.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Or you know some people like to put Greek yogurt with their desserts for the protein to help also slow the blood sugar response.
- 35:45Speaker 3: I'm glad that we're kind of shifting the tune of our conversations like that, just because it makes it more practical for people and you know it's not like, hey, you have to swear off all this because, while it's unnecessary and it's also unrealistic.
- 35:56Speaker 3: So, like you know, let's, you know, teach and actually educate on how you can include these foods in a way that is works for you and works for your body.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Let's restrict.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we often don't?
- 36:08Speaker 2: We often don't eat things in isolation, yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 3: And I think a lot of our nutrition conversations are as if we do.
- 36:15Speaker 3: You know like.
- 36:16Speaker 3: People are like oh, beans are incomplete, are you only eating beans?
- 36:19Speaker 3: Yes, exactly, that's it.
- 36:20Speaker 3: You know what?
- 36:21Speaker 1: I mean Sugar is terrible.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Well, if you just ate it?
- 36:23Speaker 1: by the spoonful.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Are you?
- 36:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like, are you know what I mean?
- 36:26Speaker 1: Like, it's just, oh, man, I tell you, like people say, like sugar is addicting.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I'm like listen, charlotte, I'm going to right now.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Okay, pretend I'm.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a bag of sugar, a big old bag of sugar, with a massive spoon, and be like Shaila eat as many spoonfuls of sugar as you want.
- 36:41Speaker 1: How many spoonfuls of sugar are you just going to plow right into your mouth?
- 36:45Speaker 3: I'm going to get ill before I probably even think about getting past one.
- 36:50Speaker 1: You just I think I could maybe three for me, three, three.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I've done it before.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I know it's three spoonfuls of sugar.
- 37:00Speaker 3: I feel ill thinking about it.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I mean, I don't, I don't know.
- 37:03Speaker 1: We need to ask our listeners that.
- 37:06Speaker 2: third, one was just kind of like okay, I'm like, but you got to get out, so done with this, but I got it down.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Holy crap, I don't.
- 37:12Speaker 1: We need.
- 37:13Speaker 1: We need backup from people listening Like how many spoonfuls of sugar could you eat?
- 37:16Speaker 1: Because I think I could maybe get through one.
- 37:19Speaker 1: But and the thing is like you look at something like butter, if I okay, now I'm just going to give you a couple of sticks of butter and be like, unless I know, carnivore people just want them.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Deep throat it.
- 37:29Speaker 1: But like what, how many bites of the stick of butter are you going to eat?
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah, just the blessing Probably none.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Probably none, because that sounds fucking awesome.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I might lick it.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I'll sniff it yes Like yes, I'll smell it, I'm not feta.
- 37:44Speaker 1: But if I combine those two things and make a cookie, obviously now I'm going to eat a whole bunch of them.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So it's really this combination of simple, simple sugars and fats together.
- 37:56Speaker 2: And can I just like.
- 37:57Speaker 2: It's almost like humans, like f-flavor combinations.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I'll tell you what frustrates me is people, always people, demonize carbs and the first thing they say are what?
- 38:07Speaker 1: French fries, potato chips, these?
- 38:09Speaker 2: sorts of things, pizza.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I'm like you realize those have more fats than carbs, right?
- 38:14Speaker 1: Like potato chips are have a lot more calories from fats than carbs.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yeah, for some reason we're only demonizing carbs in that Like.
- 38:21Speaker 1: That just doesn't make any sense to me.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I've talked about this too, which this is another topic that I also will you know.
- 38:28Speaker 3: I think I've talked about it once on my page and never will again.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Seed oil is just you know, stuff like that, the annoying stuff like that, I just can't.
- 38:35Speaker 2: But I hate to tell you this, Liam, but these Pringles are 15 grams of fat and 29 grams of carbs per serving Well.
- 38:45Speaker 1: wouldn't that mean still more calories?
- 38:47Speaker 1: Than fat Because there's nine calories.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, sorry, I mean calories, not grams Calories.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Okay, yes, more calories from fat.
- 38:57Speaker 3: No, but that that like what I like.
- 38:59Speaker 3: I talked about it once on my account and I was like you know what y'all I'm gonna say once, I'm not gonna say it again.
- 39:06Speaker 3: I think we need to zoom out when it comes to food, and it was about seed oils and you know, just fat content, just foods like that.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Like you know, you might not feel super amazing just because you no longer eat canola oil.
- 39:21Speaker 3: You might feel super amazing because you stopped eating, yeah, Chips, a lot of desserts, fried foods that contain more things.
- 39:32Speaker 1: It bums me out so much because I see people like oh, I stopped eating zebra cakes for breakfast and now I eat and now I eat these whole foods, and instead of a candy, I snack on dates that have peanut butter in it, and I feel better and I'm like.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And so your conclusion from that was that sugar is poisoned and seed oils are toxic, like I just.
- 39:53Speaker 3: I can't.
- 39:54Speaker 1: It's like here, like yeah how about we just add in some more of the whole foods, some more, you know, more fiber and more micronutrients, and you know you feel better like that jump.
- 40:05Speaker 1: It sucks.
- 40:07Speaker 1: It really does More fish and chips.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I love fish and chips.
- 40:12Speaker 2: There we go Fish and chips all the way.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I literally think I'm gonna get some chmabis thinking about it.
- 40:16Speaker 3: So that's how I feel.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I just get tired, it's so tiring, it's so fucking exhausting, it really is Like aren't you exhausted?
- 40:31Speaker 3: I'm talking to the people that just overcomplicate me Like aren't you exhausted?
- 40:35Speaker 1: I'm exhausted watching them Like I can't imagine what the fuck they're doing.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Holy shit.
- 40:40Speaker 3: The hoops, the hoops that they're jumping through the hurdles.
- 40:44Speaker 1: But, the money you make off the supplement I was about to say they're just looking at the money, it helps that a lot.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It helps, Listen, guys.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Ultra processed food is bad.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Now here's my greens powder.
- 40:52Speaker 3: That has 84 ingredients in it.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Okay, so first thing we do is we ultra distill.
- 40:58Speaker 1: What the fuck?
- 40:59Speaker 1: What was that?
- 40:59Speaker 1: Liam?
- 41:00Speaker 1: Liam, it's a proprietary blend, don't give them any information?
- 41:04Speaker 2: Just slap all the names on the label.
- 41:05Speaker 2: You're good to go.
- 41:06Speaker 2: We've got 80 things in it.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Number of ingredients.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Bad.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Except this, except this list, this list Impressive.
- 41:15Speaker 3: That list Bad, they've been a whopping two grams of fiber.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my gosh, have you seen?
- 41:21Speaker 1: I mean you might have seen each other Like they do like oh, there's the 50 brain cell challenge.
- 41:26Speaker 1: You lose a brain cell for every ingredient and I'm just like I don't think you had 50 to begin with.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I don't see that it's so bad.
- 41:35Speaker 1: So that guy that does the 50 brain cell challenge.
- 41:37Speaker 1: One time when I did a video of his.
- 41:38Speaker 2: He actually reached out to me and we had a discussion and he was like yeah, I'm really into helping people, etc.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Oh, would you like me to do your marketing for you, because I'm a marketer?
- 41:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and I was like no, I, I, I like you know, I'm not really at that point yet.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Blah, blah, blah, blah and the next.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Thing he does is turns around and does this video.
- 42:01Speaker 2: That's just kind of like attacking me Like all he wanted was to do a video and he's kind of like attacking me like all he wanted was me as a marketing client, right.
- 42:14Speaker 1: It's about the money.
- 42:15Speaker 1: It's always about the fucking money it's.
- 42:17Speaker 1: It is exhausting to see, but yes, I mean, it's kind of what it is, but anyway, that's enough sad shit.
- 42:23Speaker 1: So, shaila, let's say hey, I'm coming to you, I'm a new person trying to be healthy, okay, and I don't really know where to start.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Okay, I've got this plate here, all right, so I got this.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I got this plate for me, so how do what do I do?
- 42:36Speaker 1: Like, what are some tips I can get for just making, you know, just like a simple, you know, balanced meal?
- 42:42Speaker 1: I'm just trying to generally be healthier.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I'm not looking for anything super crazy or specific, or fat diets or anything like that.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Like just how to build a plate.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, help me out here.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Usually what I do.
- 42:52Speaker 3: This is your plate, right, I guess?
- 42:55Speaker 3: Oh, that's terrible.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Looked a little bit more like a heart there.
- 42:58Speaker 2: This is your heart.
- 43:01Speaker 3: You're going to see imaginary plate usually say half non-starchy vegetables.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Non-starchy vegetables are things that aren't like potatoes, corn, stuff like that.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Those are going to be things like broccoli, brussel sprouts.
- 43:13Speaker 3: I've been getting into broccolini.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Oh, holy shit, it's broccoli Good, you don't like broccolini no, I like it.
- 43:20Speaker 3: I really do.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I was going to say about the long stem.
- 43:23Speaker 3: It just gets me.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Oh, asparagus too.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it fucking destroys your bathroom and everybody's.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It smells awful.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Like literally asparagus, like once every six months, like I can't, I drive white asparagus, I felt jipped as fuck.
- 43:35Speaker 1: It tastes, no, it tastes worse, and it's like six dollars for a fucking bushel.
- 43:41Speaker 1: I don't know what it is.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Whatever, a spear, not a spear, it's individual spear.
- 43:46Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:47Speaker 1: A little thingy you get it, you bring home, you eat it, and I was just that.
- 43:50Speaker 1: You could have seen the joy left my face as soon as I ate a one spear of white asparagus.
- 43:56Speaker 3: I'm glad I never fell victim to that thing, because sometimes I've been like, let me know.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Anybody listening.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Don't get the white asparagus.
- 44:02Speaker 1: It's twice the price and half the flavor.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:06Speaker 3: But I have no search, you guys.
- 44:08Speaker 3: And a quarter of a car, what rice could be a potato, could be pasta, things like that.
- 44:17Speaker 3: And something that I always talk to people about building their plates to, is that a lot of times, especially people that may be, you know, insomersistant, prediabetic or have diabetes is that like dishes that normally would be like mainly all carbs, like they can be sides to, so like if you cook spaghetti, like the spaghetti doesn't have to make up your entire plate, like it can be a side dish.
- 44:37Speaker 3: You know what I mean and I think that perspective helps a lot of people.
- 44:40Speaker 3: And then the other quarter would be protein, whatever.
- 44:45Speaker 3: That is, chicken, fish, fish, whatever you want yeah, for me fish.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yes, I like this guest.
- 44:55Speaker 3: I love fish.
- 44:56Speaker 3: But then people also get confused because then you know, for someone who is really new to nutrition, they're like well, like, what about?
- 45:02Speaker 3: Like a sandwich or something Like?
- 45:03Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 45:03Speaker 3: Like it's not actual thing, it's not actual plate with heart.
- 45:07Speaker 1: How do I put this on a plate?
- 45:08Speaker 1: Do I have to take the burger apart and then put it on?
- 45:10Speaker 3: each little part.
- 45:12Speaker 3: So I'm always like, you know, then just focus on making sure you're getting all those groups.
- 45:17Speaker 3: So like, obviously your bread will be your carbs Boom, we got it figured out.
- 45:20Speaker 3: And then what are you having?
- 45:22Speaker 3: Like turkey or something?
- 45:23Speaker 3: Are you having chicken?
- 45:24Speaker 3: Are you having like beans or something, protein?
- 45:27Speaker 3: And then you know, like I always tell people like sandwiches.
- 45:30Speaker 3: I have no idea why people can't stand sandwiches.
- 45:32Speaker 3: They're the quickest way to get so much, just there, 100% right, you know what I mean.
- 45:37Speaker 3: And then what you put veggies, like a lot of people do, lettuce.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Look that thing up with as much veggies as you can.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Yes, for the fiber you could do a black bean burger.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Like, I love like black bean burgers are awesome.
- 45:50Speaker 1: They have fiber, they still have protein and maybe not a ton, but they still have, you know they still have some and then you can get vegetables.
- 45:57Speaker 1: You could get if you want to do like a whole grain bun or something like that.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Personally I'd rather just get like regular, a regular bun.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I like, I love me.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Like like everything big, like the everything buns or whatever they got, like all the different seeds and stuff on there.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Where do you get that, sir?
- 46:10Speaker 1: It's called a store, it's called a grocery store.
- 46:15Speaker 1: No, what do you mean?
- 46:16Speaker 1: They say it's like everything.
- 46:17Speaker 3: It's store everything bagel, but not a bun.
- 46:20Speaker 3: I've never seen a bun.
- 46:21Speaker 1: but it's got like, it's like everything, it's got all the things on it.
- 46:24Speaker 3: I guess I'll have to look at the store.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I like that.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I like a little texture, yeah, so I throw that on there and yeah, you get a little micronutrients from that, whatever.
- 46:31Speaker 1: But yeah, I just think it tastes better.
- 46:32Speaker 1: So I'll get my whole grains and shit elsewhere.
- 46:35Speaker 2: whatever, I'll have some oats, yeah, so that's what.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I think so yeah, like it's totally fine, you know just, and it's yeah, sandwiches, like it's that drives me crazy Like it's already sort of a balanced meal.
- 46:45Speaker 1: You do a couple little things and you're all set.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Throw an avocado.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Oh, throw an avocado on like some kind of sandwich.
- 46:52Speaker 1: So good, boom, like come on.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I live in Canada and I don't have options.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Hey so what's?
- 47:04Speaker 1: A sandwich?
- 47:04Speaker 1: I don't know what's a sandwich sandwich, do you do you?
- 47:09Speaker 1: Do you put maple syrup on it?
- 47:11Speaker 1: Is that anything you hit the golf ball with?
- 47:12Speaker 1: No, that's, oh, that's a wedge, right Say.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Golf ball.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Is that like hockey on snow?
- 47:26Speaker 1: Everything's just related to hockey.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so, like, picture the puck and that is your, that's your burger.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so I mean, just, you know, I'd say, like, when it comes to building a play, I love that, that method.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I've seen it many times, but I still enjoy seeing those sorts of videos where you just break it down and you can just go like, what do you like?
- 47:49Speaker 1: Like, okay, you know, I really like Faro.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Like, I don't know if a lot of people haven't heard that one.
- 47:55Speaker 3: You're not a big fan of that.
- 47:56Speaker 3: It's got more of a texture to it.
- 47:57Speaker 3: That's what it is, I think it's the bite.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I like that bite where I don't like the bite of quinoa.
- 48:03Speaker 1: People have told me to try it all sorts of different ways and I'm just like.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I don't like either.
- 48:07Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of the quinoa, so you're going to find these things and people will be like oh, try this.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Like oh, I don't like that, that's fine you know.
- 48:13Speaker 2: yeah, I don't know any of them.
- 48:15Speaker 1: It doesn't matter how many times have you been asked like which is the best whole grain, which is the best vegetable?
- 48:20Speaker 3: which is the best fruit, which is a big debate that people constantly have on my pages.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Like I think people they just get pissed when I talk about brown versus white rice.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I'm also a freelance writer and I wrote that on the site that I write for.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Like you know, brown rice is really not that different and the people were.
- 48:43Speaker 3: They had their tidies up Like, oh my God, the same thing happens all the time.
- 48:49Speaker 3: So I get a lot of questions about rice and I stand by it.
- 48:52Speaker 3: They're not that different.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So the microdutrient there's I mean white rice is often fortified, so you'll have more of certain minerals, whereas brown rice will have more of other ones and it has what a gram of fiber per serving.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Like brown rice has, like one or two grams and white has zero.
- 49:07Speaker 1: You know roughly.
- 49:09Speaker 1: So I'm like pick whichever rice you like.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I'm going to let you guys in, I'm going to let everybody in on a big secret here.
- 49:14Speaker 2: I'm going to do it Liam style, hold on.
- 49:15Speaker 2: I'm going to let you in on a big secret here the best thing to eat is the thing that you're going to eat.
- 49:22Speaker 1: It's the thing you will eat and stick to eating, not eat for a goddamn week and then give up.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Like.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Again, we have to zoom out.
- 49:29Speaker 3: If you, having white rice on the bottom, helps you like eat your veggies and eat your proteins, because it's just a great vehicle for all of those things, and then you do the same thing with brown rice and it's a bad experience, please just eat the white, like I get so bent out of shape and then as soon as it becomes like from a takeout, it's also immediately becomes bad.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Like you know what I've been getting a lot of like Chinese food.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Like I get, like I got white rice, I get mixed vegetables and I usually get shrimp or tofu.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Those are like my two things I normally get.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I'm like that's a pretty balanced meal, oh, but it's got salt, that has sugar in it, Seed oils, Like it's a pretty balanced meal overall.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Like yeah, it's delicious and only a lot of it.
- 50:08Speaker 2: But like also people.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Liam's going to yell at you to wash your rice in a second here, but I'm also going to yell at you Flavor your rice.
- 50:18Speaker 2: You can use like chicken stock, you can use spices, you can use herbs.
- 50:22Speaker 3: I'm like you can like, because something that I do to kind of like up the protein a little bit and rice is, I'll just do it in bone broth, Bone broth yep and like, it tastes better.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, using using a good broth to cook your rice in is amazing.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Like I know people just think it got to be water.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Boom, that's it.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Like no, you can pull out of the world, you could, you could season it for all I care.
- 50:43Speaker 1: There's some Gatorade in there, let's see.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I want blue rice, god damn.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to try that.
- 50:48Speaker 1: It's got electrolytes.
- 50:51Speaker 3: It's got rice that has electrolytes in it.
- 50:52Speaker 3: It's got healthy.
- 50:53Speaker 3: All of a sudden, people Oli pop in there.
- 50:54Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 50:57Speaker 1: We can sell us fibers.
- 50:59Speaker 1: This is the fiber rice right Now.
- 51:04Speaker 1: It does it cost 5742 to make a cup of rice?
- 51:07Speaker 1: Yes, but this is about your health, people.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Think about the fiber.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Oli pop rice use the just prepare yourself for the toilet after you eat it.
- 51:20Speaker 1: I want to use the grape one so bad.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I want purple rice.
- 51:23Speaker 1: I want purple.
- 51:25Speaker 3: It's funny, it's not like exist, oh, okay.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I'm, we're, we're, we're making purple rice, and then we're rewriting purple rain as the song to cover it.
- 51:39Speaker 1: So this is a different type of purple rice that I've ever had before.
- 51:42Speaker 1: It's very sweet.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a different variety.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I get it from like one local region and just in Taiwan.
- 51:48Speaker 1: This is not important.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Hold on, let me get rid of my cans.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I may be broke, but I'm healthy.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Oh my God.
- 52:01Speaker 1: But, yeah, I usually throw like better than like the better than bully on stuff.
- 52:04Speaker 1: You never tried that.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I love that stuff.
- 52:06Speaker 1: I just, you know, like yeah, because I hate.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I just like the vegetable stock or chicken stock.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Like it takes up so much room and they put in the fridge.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I got so much shit in there already.
- 52:14Speaker 1: I like just having a little better than bully on stuff Teaspoon in a cup of water, whatever tablespoon, whatever it is done, yeah.
- 52:22Speaker 2: And then there's me over here.
- 52:23Speaker 2: We make our own stock because you know, I always buy a chicken's whole portion and I'm up myself.
- 52:28Speaker 2: You know, got to do the whole, got to do the whole, putting everything into it, got to do the scavenger hunts.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Got to hit those savings.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Man mushrooms.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Wow, we don't have that supplement money here.
- 52:38Speaker 3: All right, okay, cost savings.
- 52:42Speaker 1: I hit up the five.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I mean hey.
- 52:45Speaker 2: I get $5 a month from TikTok.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I got to spread that out.
- 52:49Speaker 1: That can get you a lot of my clearance section.
- 52:51Speaker 1: If you haven't seen my videos, I find that I find the fight finds.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Find the finds there.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Yes, Well, I don't know how many times we have to say that Check your clearance sections.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Every episode now is going to start off hey, well, in moderation, check your clearance sections and today we have all that.
- 53:09Speaker 3: It's true, though, they're always having the weirdest spots, like right next to the bathroom, like okay, I know.
- 53:14Speaker 1: They try and hide it.
- 53:15Speaker 1: They always try and hide it.
- 53:17Speaker 2: I don't take that shit, I find it.
- 53:21Speaker 1: And then, like you know, the meats in, like the meat section they usually have.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Like, on the end they'll have like a little discount bar Like, and a lot of stuff.
- 53:26Speaker 1: It's just because it's going to go, you know, off it's going to go best by date and like a couple of days, take a home, freeze that shit.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Exactly, or even take it home and cook it right away, throw it in a crock pot.
- 53:41Speaker 3: There's that.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Yeah, there is that.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Listen if everyone's not super healthy by the end of this episode.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I don't understand how we gave you every possible All the tools?
- 53:51Speaker 3: Yeah, free, I can't.
- 53:54Speaker 3: I'm spitting knowledge right now, for everyone.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, okay, Okay, we got to back up.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Holy shit we didn't even talk about it.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Back it up, back it up.
- 54:07Speaker 3: We get asked about constantly Supplements.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Holy shit, when people start off, they're like which ones do I need?
- 54:13Speaker 1: Okay, so give us a quick little I don't know, tier list of like.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Okay, here I'm going to give you like S tier A, tier B, tier C, tier D, tier F Okay, what about vitamin D?
- 54:26Speaker 1: Where is that?
- 54:28Speaker 3: Well, tons of people are deficient in vitamin D across the world Most people in this country especially.
- 54:36Speaker 3: They will test find their low.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Probably could use a supplement for that.
- 54:41Speaker 2: So what S tier?
- 54:42Speaker 2: A tier Got an office job.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Yes, if you have an office job.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Wait, would you say.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Leon A tier S tier.
- 54:49Speaker 3: What's that?
- 54:50Speaker 3: It's S tier.
- 54:50Speaker 3: That's like lab.
- 54:51Speaker 1: It's like super, oh really.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome, amazing.
- 54:57Speaker 3: That's what we could provide him Honestly, just because of just the the grave issue, we'll make it S.
- 55:02Speaker 1: I think it's like I would.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I would put it S for people with office jobs and stuff.
- 55:07Speaker 2: If you get outside more, you've got like a construction job.
- 55:10Speaker 2: It's dropping down to like a C.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, like if your levels are normal, like, but the reality is a lot of people's levels aren't normal, so like a lot of people, and then also, you know, people with my skin tone, black people, like deficiency is just it's more common and it's also more difficult to correct.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Um, so yeah, I definitely yeah.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Cause I think vitamin D is like one of the few supplements that's actually work it, that's actually worth it.
- 55:37Speaker 1: I would.
- 55:38Speaker 1: And then you know, the next one people ask about is magnesium.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I know you talk about that.
- 55:42Speaker 1: A lot of people are deficient in that, not getting enough in food, that sort of thing.
- 55:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so for that, honestly, a lot of people would probably benefit from magnesium supplement, but there's a few things that I try to point out.
- 55:54Speaker 3: When we say deficient, we're talking about people not meeting their needs via diet.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Why?
- 55:59Speaker 3: Because there is no validated way to test true magnesium deficiency, right, so you know, we can only really quantify it by how people consume it in their diet, and if they're not eating enough, we can suspect that they don't have enough total body stores.
- 56:10Speaker 3: And so you know, with that, like I said, though, we really don't have a way to quantify deficiency.
- 56:16Speaker 1: But people are getting enough.
- 56:17Speaker 1: So you know, would you recommend a specific type of?
- 56:20Speaker 2: I would say yeah.
- 56:22Speaker 3: So for a spars specific type, you know everyone talks about glycinate.
- 56:25Speaker 3: Glycinate, yeah, and it helps a lot of people sleep better, helps a lot of people feel more relaxed, helps, might help some people with mental health, spars, anxiety and stuff like that just helps them feel a little bit more relieved, relaxed.
- 56:36Speaker 3: But I also try to talk about on my page, which is something that a lot of people experience, is that glycinate can actually be excitatory.
- 56:43Speaker 3: It can actually, like make insomnia worse for some people.
- 56:47Speaker 3: It can make anxiety worse for some people it can just do nothing at all.
- 56:51Speaker 3: And so if you want to kind of, you know, support your body's levels of it like glycinate's, fine, try it.
- 56:58Speaker 3: So usually a good intro for a lot of people, but for a lot of other people it really doesn't help them, it does the opposite.
- 57:04Speaker 3: So I always try to talk about that, because a lot of people don't talk about that, because they don't know that.
- 57:07Speaker 3: And so yeah, psytray, if you just want to poo, maybe just do side trade If you're not eating enough gummies.
- 57:16Speaker 2: Okay, at the start of this episode I'm just gonna like add a little dub in thing.
- 57:20Speaker 2: That's like hey, everybody get a drink ready, take a shot every time we mention anything to do with the toilet.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yeah, not like an alcoholic drink, cause people will be fucking toasted like, but like water or something.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Yeah, Just making sure Cause.
- 57:34Speaker 2: No, we don't want to, we don't want to send anybody to the hospital here.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well, we could always make them have a Bobby approved alcoholic drink with pesticide free wine.
- 57:46Speaker 3: It's because of it's because of you, liam, but like sometimes I'll like post something and people will make like a Bobby approved joke.
- 57:51Speaker 3: They're like is this Bobby?
- 57:52Speaker 1: approved.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Oh, I guess it's all, every, every episode.
- 57:57Speaker 2: I was talking about a shirt Playing a game on stream.
- 57:59Speaker 2: I know I was starting to ask if the game is Bobby approved.
- 58:02Speaker 1: A T-shirt?
- 58:03Speaker 1: Damn guys.
- 58:04Speaker 1: And the answer is always no.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Well, like you, don't need to ask.
- 58:12Speaker 2: If it's not paying Bobby, it's not Bobby approved.
- 58:15Speaker 3: So, yeah, I would.
- 58:16Speaker 3: So, yeah, what do?
- 58:17Speaker 1: you say Like we put an A tier magnesium.
- 58:22Speaker 2: I would say See, personally I would.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I would put it B tier and then pumpkin seeds A tier, cause pumpkin seeds are awesome.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Pumpkin seeds?
- 58:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree.
- 58:29Speaker 1: One serving is like 30%.
- 58:30Speaker 1: My only concern is well?
- 58:31Speaker 3: like proof.
- 58:32Speaker 3: Yeah, with food, though the only cause.
- 58:34Speaker 3: Here's the thing Again.
- 58:35Speaker 3: A lot of this is in the ideal world where people just you know they're very diet and the reality is they aren't, and then also food absorption rate is really like 30, 40%.
- 58:46Speaker 3: So even if people are eating a little bit more, it's probably not going to be enough to meet their daily.
- 58:52Speaker 3: So I say I think people just ate.
- 58:54Speaker 3: I don't know, I just want you to go eat more.
- 58:56Speaker 3: Very Right.
- 58:58Speaker 1: That's what we always, especially you get into, trust me, like you get into school to be like a dietitian.
- 59:02Speaker 1: You'll see like, wow, this is a little depressing here, like 95% of people don't get enough fiber, 90% of people don't need enough fruits and vegetables.
- 59:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Oh boy, this is.
- 59:13Speaker 1: And then they come to you and like what's the best cutting board I should use?
- 59:16Speaker 1: Shut the fuck up.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Can you please not ask me, like what's the best air fryer that I need to buy?
- 59:24Speaker 3: Like oh God.
- 59:26Speaker 2: Although I must say please don't use a glass cutting board.
- 59:29Speaker 2: People Take care of your knives.
- 59:32Speaker 2: That's about your knife.
- 59:33Speaker 1: That's it, yeah, that's about your knife.
- 59:35Speaker 1: That's a thing.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Yeah, people, it'll.
- 59:38Speaker 1: It'll fuck up your knife, but anyway, yeah.
- 59:41Speaker 1: What about fiber supplements?
- 59:42Speaker 1: Cause I would put that like kind of like A or B, because like it's, it can help.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Most people aren't getting enough fiber, so it's helpful.
- 59:49Speaker 1: It's not as good as from food, but like I do think people could benefit from like a $10 jar of metamucine.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Yeah, like a lot of people are asking about stuff like that for fiber and I just again, I just get upset Cause like, ah, you can eat food but, like you know, a lot of people could probably use it, they could probably benefit from it.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: You know a lot of people in my experience work against stuff like that.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Just a little psyllium husk is what they need.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Get the cheapest thing of psyllium husk or whatever you have.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: You do not need the um Unicity, yeah, Unicity.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Don't need that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: You don't need to pay hundreds of dollars.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I've said it a couple of times that I keep a jar of psyllium husk on hand.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: If I feel like I'm not getting enough fiber in a day, then yeah, I'll throw some in to something.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: You know, throw some in my cooking, whatever.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I throw it in my bean dispenser.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Just kind of mix it up.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Yeah, covered it.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: There we go.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: I recommend whoa.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: I said wreck it to me.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Anyway, I recommended to people who like like, cause a lot of people experience like travel constipation.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: So, like, a lot of people find use in having like a fiber supplement on hand when they travel Right, um, and then, just like you know, throw them back to water cause they could just help, you know.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I can see when you're traveling.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: You're just getting like fast food or whatever like that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: You're probably going to get next to no fiber, right, you're probably not much to be feeling, you know, depending on what you can find.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: So I think that's a great idea if you're traveling, something.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: Um, is there any?
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: I mean, what a like, what a vitamin C.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: No, like, I put that shit way down there.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: You don't need that shit, yeah, whatever.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: The last one is yeah, you don't need it.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Multivitamins man, I used to take multivitamins.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I stopped taking that shit.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Throw the F like there's no people ask me all the time what's the best multivitamin?
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Uh, the one that's still on the shelf.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Because I there's like no evidence supporting it being beneficial, like I've seen.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Yeah, there there was this recent big thing that, um, I think people were like oh my gosh, we found that multivitamins.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I think I was like a few, maybe a month ago or something or a few weeks ago some large study came out about how it benefited old people and stuff like that.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: And it just maybe multivitamins are great and like wait like we're talking about old people that aren't getting most of the food that they need in the first place, but they barely get any of the protein they need.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: There's bigger.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: So yeah, we'll throw that down there.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Fish oil I used to take that again I stopped taking that.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Um, you know, there's maybe benefit if you're vegan and you know that sort of thing.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I get that, but for most people Vegans.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I like algae oil.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Algae oil, yeah, obviously not taking fish oil, algae oil, for a mega threes, but for for most people.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen some problems because of tainted supplements.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Um, you know, that's a problem.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: That's always that's always a huge problem with supplement industry.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Like they're not really regulated.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: They aid people from specifically yeah, for all supplements, but omega threes those are.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: You know, you really kind of got to vet your sources with those.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: They're very fragile.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Omega threes are very fragile.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: You put them into pill form, it's just not.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: It's a good chance it's.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: It's not going to be nearly as beneficial as getting it from from fish or whatever.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: So, um, yeah, I don't know Any other supplement.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: What other supplements?
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: you get asked about.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: Well, for the, for the amagi, amagi, for the amagi.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: For the amagi.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: That's how Canadian people say it.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Yeah, right Got it.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Yeah, for the amagi's.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: We uh, for most of people just um, watch your supermarket for one of those big freezer bags of salmon to go on sale and just have like one of those once in a while.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I like the little packets of salmon, the little like tuna packets, but it's same, it doesn't need to be fresh grass-fed salmon from Antarctica.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: whatever in crystal glacier waters Doesn't need to be all that.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: You think they were swimming in those people's supplements.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: The way they push that shit.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: It's fucking nuts Calm the hell down.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Um, but yeah, I can't think of.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I mean, I like creatine personally.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I think a lot of people, especially if you're working out.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: I think it's.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's what literally one of the most, if not studies, probably the most studies supplement five grants.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: You don't need to load it just every day.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: We've talked about this before, but I put that like a tier.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I think a lot of people could use that.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: You don't have to take it, but it is beneficial yeah.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: And there are some studies coming out that it's beneficial for mental health as well.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I've seen some of those.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: I think it's still kind of really on.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I just started to see that.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: But yeah, so I think that's good Monohydrate, whatever's third-party tested I usually get like NutriCost Doesn't matter, use my code In moderation in moderation creatine.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: That's our next step.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: There we go.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: So is there any other supplements you guys have about?
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Like what the fuck?
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I can't think of anything else.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: That's the big one, you know, because then you've got the obscure ones that people try and ask about.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: But yeah, those I feel like those are good.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so pretty much everything else is going to be low down, like D, f, like most people won't need it, just just pass them on.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Like a lot of those are just individualized.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: The rest If and the Talk with your doctor.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Talk with your dietitian.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: They'll tell you if you need to take something.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: I'm a dietitian.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: I'm not yours, exactly yeah.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Oh shit, do we?
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure I feel like something else I want to touch on, but so yeah, I'm into.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: We talked about supplements.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: This is where we do the little dance while we wait for Liam to wait.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Look things up.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: I just want to make sure, because every time it you know it ends and we're like, oh fuck, that was like the main thing we wanted to bring up.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Anything.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Oh, we're terrible at planning.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: How much water am I supposed to be drinking, Rob?
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: shut up.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: How much water am I supposed to be drinking?
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: That's, that's.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I can't ask the fluids Everyone's like oh, I can't drink tap water.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I got to make sure it has electrolytes in it or it's dehydrating me more.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Oh, coffee is good, coffee is dehydrating.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Yeah, so like, and it's you know eight glasses is always that classic shit Like what what's the deal Like?
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Come on, just what's the deal with like fluids and shit.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: To be honest with you, I'm like low key intuitive in my own drinking water habits and also in encouraging other people's drinking water habits.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: And that's part one.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Part two a lot of it depends on activity.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: So when that whole gallon of water situation was going on, I was like ma'am, you work out 20 minutes three times a week.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: No, you don't need an office, it's just like out of a gallon jug that you don't need a gallon of water like that is diluting yourself like it.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Yes, over Overhydration and complications from it.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: They don't happen a lot, but they happen.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Okay, you don't need to go overboard.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: It feels like too much.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: It's probably too much.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: So that's what I mean by like intuitively fluid in yourself.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I know what.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: I mean like the people, people.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Every year, one person dies from overhydration.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Don't let it be you like come on Too late.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: I feel like two years is a good standard.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Um, I would say, and then, like I don't know, like, like I said, intuitiveness, like if you work a lot, you drink.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: I always tell people drink when you're thirsty.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: If you're peeing off yellow, look at your urine.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: That's like a great thing.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Is it clear you might be drinking too much?
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: Is it like dark brown?
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: You might.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Is it purple then?
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: You've been eating too much of that rice.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: You gotta slow down.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Now maybe back up like yeah, and then the electrolytes and stuff like that.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: I think again situationally.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: I got me a little Random free liquid idea got from Costco right here.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Basically like again, if you are someone who is like you, are a runner, you work out a lot, wet a lot.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: There's a lot of water and you lose a lot of electrolytes.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Like, yeah, it's important for you to not just replenish with just water, you should also have electrolytes.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: But you know, as far as the trend and stuff goes, like what these things can pack, like 500 milligrams of salt in it.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: The average person doesn't need an extra 500 milligrams seriously.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: And so I think you know, and so with that stuff I'm like so many of these videos are like you're hydrating wrong.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: You're just drinking water.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: You got to replace it with this.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I'm like you're not.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Are you, are, I'm?
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: Who the hell?
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: are you?
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: It's like salt to rock.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Are you LeBron?
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: James, sweating your ass off?
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: You know Electrolytes, glucose.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: They help to deliver hydration to yourselves better.
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: But you want to know something, and we talked about it earlier fruit vegetables.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: They have all that really nice.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Weird how we can come back to food.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: Oh, that's our thing with food, hydration, love package like literally.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: Meanwhile to all my Canadians out there You're huddled up in your igloo.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: You're not sweating much because it's freezing out here.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: You know, just just focus on.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: You know, having a couple double doubles every day, you know, you're good, you're good.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: You're in the one Costco Just all huddling for warmth.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: Costco is made out of ice.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Did you know that?
