- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to The Favorites, the podcast presented by BET three
- 0:12Speaker 1: sixty five. We are part of the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I am Chad Milman of the Action Network. I'm live
- 0:18Speaker 1: from my Tommy John home studio, and I'm joined as
- 0:22Speaker 1: always by my co host, my companion, Mike Capadre, my
- 0:25Speaker 1: BFF professional vetter, Simon Hunter Ello.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Simon Chad, How are we doing, brother, dude?
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm so psyched for today's show. We are going hardcore football, hardcore,
- 0:35Speaker 1: free agency, hardcore draft. We are joined by one of
- 0:40Speaker 1: ESPN's top talent and NFL draft and fantasy analysts, one
- 0:45Speaker 1: of the swellest people in all of sports media, the
- 0:48Speaker 1: pride of the Wesleyan University Cardinals, my neighbor here in
- 0:52Speaker 1: West Harford, Connecticut. Welcome back to the show, Field Yates.
- 0:55Speaker 3: It's good to be on. It's kind of like an
- 0:57Speaker 3: annual tradition. Now, I guess after you do it twice,
- 1:00Speaker 3: an annual tradition, because if memory serves, the last appearance
- 1:03Speaker 3: was around this time of the year last year, and.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Since then we had you on, didn't we have you on?
- 1:08Speaker 1: In August?
- 1:09Speaker 3: You know, everything is everything blur.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Just maybe you had just injured your shoulder.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Oh, okay, you know what, I gotta be honest with you,
- 1:18Speaker 3: that shoulder. They say that the biggest issue is, like,
- 1:20Speaker 3: you know, the actual like the capacity to come back
- 1:23Speaker 3: to one hundred percent with your shoulder. I just think
- 1:25Speaker 3: it's clouded my memory. Everything is a blur over the
- 1:27Speaker 3: last six or seven months since suffering one is considered
- 1:30Speaker 3: by many the single dumbest injury in the history of
- 1:33Speaker 3: sports media, just in sports in general.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Well, listen, I'll tell you a story from last night. Okay,
- 1:38Speaker 1: that'll make you feel so much better. So I'm talking
- 1:42Speaker 1: to my son, my eighteen year old son. We're talking
- 1:44Speaker 1: about the Bears. Of course during the day as he's
- 1:48Speaker 1: supposed to be in school. You know, he's a second
- 1:50Speaker 1: semester senior, so he's not paying too much attention right now.
- 1:54Speaker 1: He's just texting me about the Bears trade for Joe Toney,
- 1:58Speaker 1: which we are going to dig into. When I mentioned
- 2:00Speaker 1: to him while I'm making dinner and he's hanging out
- 2:02Speaker 1: with me, that were having you on the show today,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and my kid says, oh, I think he's friends with
- 2:07Speaker 1: our neighbors. I saw them once and we were talking
- 2:10Speaker 1: about sports and they mentioned him and I said, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: he is. I've seen Field at their house and he
- 2:15Speaker 1: lives in town. And he said to me, you don't
- 2:18Speaker 1: have a lot of friends. You should just hang out
- 2:20Speaker 1: with Field, and I said, I said, I said, no,
- 2:24Speaker 1: he's young, he's better looking, we're famous. It's just going
- 2:28Speaker 1: to make me feel bad about myself. And then I
- 2:31Speaker 1: did tell him that we saw you and your beautiful
- 2:35Speaker 1: family at dinner one night and you had your young
- 2:38Speaker 1: kids at the dinner tables about a month ago. You
- 2:42Speaker 1: had one kid in your lap, one kid was running
- 2:45Speaker 1: around the table. My wife and I actually said out loud,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we kind of felt bad about it. That looks miserable.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We would not trade places with you, no matter how
- 2:53Speaker 1: much you have going for you.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I can remember that instance very well, and what I
- 2:58Speaker 3: will say is, as turns out, I'm once again by
- 3:01Speaker 3: myself right now with my kids. My wife doesn't travel often,
- 3:04Speaker 3: but when she does, it seems to be aligned with
- 3:06Speaker 3: when you and I are either talking or hanging out
- 3:09Speaker 3: in the same place. I learn my lesson that time.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I thought, hey, you know what, I've got both kids
- 3:13Speaker 3: to myself. I am this well established girl dad that
- 3:18Speaker 3: can handle anything that comes my way. Why don't I
- 3:20Speaker 3: take them out to dinner. That was a poor decision.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So the itinerary for the next three nights, because this
- 3:25Speaker 3: is now one night into a four night departure for
- 3:28Speaker 3: my wife, is to maybe, if we're feeling very adventurous,
- 3:32Speaker 3: get in the car and drive through somewhere. That's as
- 3:34Speaker 3: far as we will go. There will no be going
- 3:36Speaker 3: inside of establishments this weekend other than gymnastis, class and
- 3:40Speaker 3: a couple of other things that we are required to
- 3:42Speaker 3: attend as we are every single weekend.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm going to stay so far away from your side
- 3:47Speaker 1: of town smart. As a reminder, the Favorite podcast is

- 5:06Speaker 1: Live event, Chicago. All right, let's kick it off field
- 5:10Speaker 1: number one. Yesterday was a huge day of news in
- 5:14Speaker 1: the NFL. DK Metcalf wants a trade the Bears trade
- 5:18Speaker 1: for Joe Toney. But the biggest news to me, Max
- 5:22Speaker 1: Crosby signed a three year, one hundred and five million
- 5:25Speaker 1: dollar contract ninety million guaranteed. That feels like folly to me.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Your take, Okay, So.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Here's what I would say. You know, there's been a
- 5:35Speaker 3: lot of turnover in Las Vegas, so they haven't even
- 5:38Speaker 3: been to Las Vegas Raiders for that long, and they've
- 5:41Speaker 3: had a lot of coaching and general manager changes in
- 5:44Speaker 3: that time. Josh McDaniels and Dave Zigler were replaced eventually
- 5:47Speaker 3: by Antonio Pearce and Tom to LESCo, and then they
- 5:50Speaker 3: decided to make the shift one more time. Now it's
- 5:52Speaker 3: John Spytech as their GM with Pete Carroll as their
- 5:54Speaker 3: head coach. Bad probably for Vibes to be making that
- 5:58Speaker 3: many changes, and not ideal for young quarterbacks to constantly
- 6:02Speaker 3: be shifting systems. Probably pretty good for star players. One
- 6:06Speaker 3: of the messages that we heard yesterday from John Spytech
- 6:09Speaker 3: and Pete Carroll was because there was a press conference
- 6:12Speaker 3: that was associated with this landmark deal, was Hey, we're
- 6:16Speaker 3: just getting started here, and what better way to get
- 6:19Speaker 3: started than to affirm to the entire locker room that
- 6:24Speaker 3: it's not just that Max is our most talented player,
- 6:27Speaker 3: it's that Max carries himself and puts in the work
- 6:31Speaker 3: required to be great. That if every player followed his lead,
- 6:35Speaker 3: we'd be a whole lot better. So I'm not saying
- 6:38Speaker 3: that the Raiders, if they had kept their prior administration,
- 6:40Speaker 3: would not have touched Max Max Crosby's contract last year.
- 6:44Speaker 3: They did the oll borrow from a future year accelerated
- 6:49Speaker 3: onto the present year, which basically forces their hand back
- 6:53Speaker 3: to the table the year later. But yeah, the Raiders
- 6:56Speaker 3: are trying to make a statement here. And one thing
- 6:58Speaker 3: I will say about Las Vegas and I that I
- 7:01Speaker 3: probably align closer to you with this is like, I,
- 7:03Speaker 3: if I were the Raiders, would be thinking long and
- 7:06Speaker 3: hard about what is my legitimate path towards the playoffs?
- 7:11Speaker 3: In this division, the Chiefs, despite the humble pie served
- 7:15Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl, are still the Chiefs. The Broncos
- 7:17Speaker 3: and the Chargers are two teams that both made the
- 7:19Speaker 3: playoffs and are on the rise. Each of those three
- 7:22Speaker 3: teams has both a young quarterback and a very accomplished
- 7:25Speaker 3: and I think we all believe still has some good
- 7:27Speaker 3: coaching left in him head coach. If you're the Raiders,
- 7:30Speaker 3: would you rather play a bit more of the long
- 7:31Speaker 3: game or try to find your way to sneak in
- 7:34Speaker 3: to the playoffs sooner than later. It sounds like when
- 7:37Speaker 3: you hire a seventy three year old head coach and
- 7:39Speaker 3: Pete Carroll, who the second he steps on this sideline
- 7:41Speaker 3: this fall, would be the oldest coach in league history,
- 7:43Speaker 3: and you have Tom Brady as one of your principal voices.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Your mindset is we want to win sooner rather than later,
- 7:50Speaker 3: and so the Max Crosby extension is an affirmation that
- 7:54Speaker 3: we're going to continue to build around Max and a
- 7:57Speaker 3: few other players, and we expect to win, maybe not
- 8:01Speaker 3: win big this year, but when sooner rather than later?
- 8:05Speaker 3: I am I would have been more inclined to soft
- 8:09Speaker 3: reset and try to build this thing organically. But that's
- 8:13Speaker 3: easy for me to say when my I'm not in
- 8:16Speaker 3: the weeds every single day competing with that locker room,
- 8:20Speaker 3: and the one who is not judged based off of
- 8:22Speaker 3: the wins and losses of the franchise, like Pete Carroll
- 8:25Speaker 3: and John Spytech, will be going forward.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Simon, this feels like a tragically terrible move. Is that
- 8:34Speaker 1: cannot get it right for a player who last year,
- 8:38Speaker 1: this feels to me like the owner is constantly trying
- 8:43Speaker 1: to play Kate and be friends with the star player.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Because last year, when Antonio Pierce went from interim coach
- 8:51Speaker 1: to head coach, it was because Max Crosby said he
- 8:54Speaker 1: didn't want to play with the Raiders if Antonio Pierce
- 8:57Speaker 1: wasn't going to be the head coach. So we talked
- 9:01Speaker 1: about the Raiders in the mailbag, like this is creeping
- 9:04Speaker 1: up as one of the teams consistently. I feel like
- 9:07Speaker 1: as a fan, I'd never want to root for.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's it's tough if you're a Raiders fan
- 9:12Speaker 2: because you're not one or two pieces away, right, you
- 9:15Speaker 2: are multiple years away. And it's interesting that division for
- 9:19Speaker 2: the five oldest head coaches in that division, Like that's
- 9:22Speaker 2: people don't realize that's an old school type of division
- 9:24Speaker 2: now when you really think about it, where a lot
- 9:25Speaker 2: of these guys have been around forever and they're winners,
- 9:29Speaker 2: they're proven winners, and they're in a weird spot now
- 9:32Speaker 2: where you know, the other three teams seem like they
- 9:34Speaker 2: found their quarterback and this team here like i'd love
- 9:36Speaker 2: to get fields view on it. Are they really going
- 9:39Speaker 2: for Gino Smith? Are they really in the Sam Darnold business?
- 9:42Speaker 2: There's so many rumors and it's NonStop too. Where I
- 9:44Speaker 2: told Chad last week, I almost got caught. I almost
- 9:47Speaker 2: bet on them because I thought it was a sure
- 9:48Speaker 2: thing that Stafford was going there, that the ink was drying,
- 9:51Speaker 2: that that was a real deal move. It wasn't. That
- 9:54Speaker 2: was all just him leveraging his position with the Rams.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So is it true fields? Are they going after one
- 9:59Speaker 2: of these quarterbacks? Are they just you know, gonna release
- 10:02Speaker 2: Minshew here and then just roll with whatever they can
- 10:04Speaker 2: find the draft this upcoming season.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I would imagine that the most likely thing that happens
- 10:09Speaker 3: at Geno Smith this offseason is an extension with Seattle
- 10:12Speaker 3: as opposed to being on the move. I don't know
- 10:15Speaker 3: the exact number there, but Gino is going into the
- 10:17Speaker 3: final year of a three year, one hundred million dollar deal.
- 10:20Speaker 3: There was some upside on top of that through incentives,
- 10:22Speaker 3: some of which Gino has already hit. I think you're
- 10:25Speaker 3: more likely to see Geno do a remix of that deal.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Maybe it's more because the quarterback market has exploded and
- 10:30Speaker 3: he is playing good football and we don't talk about
- 10:33Speaker 3: tread on the tires for quarterbacks that often, but he's
- 10:36Speaker 3: one of the least experience isn't the right word, but
- 10:40Speaker 3: the least utilized players at that position for his age, right,
- 10:44Speaker 3: because he had like basically that I don't know, seven
- 10:46Speaker 3: eight year period where he just watched most games from
- 10:49Speaker 3: the sideline. So Gino I think is probably gonna stick
- 10:52Speaker 3: in Seattle going forward. I think the Raiders are going
- 10:55Speaker 3: to be in the mix on some of these quarterbacks,
- 10:56Speaker 3: and really there's only one that moves the needle. That
- 10:58Speaker 3: would be Sam Darnold. I'd say this is it's possible
- 11:02Speaker 3: the Raiders could get Shador Sanders sixth overall in the draft.
- 11:06Speaker 3: It's also possible the Raiders could be motivated to try
- 11:09Speaker 3: to move up in the draft because the thing about
- 11:12Speaker 3: April twenty fourth through twenty sixth the Green Bay, Wisconsin
- 11:14Speaker 3: this year is, yeah, it's possible he falls to you,
- 11:17Speaker 3: but he also might not. And if you don't get
- 11:19Speaker 3: your quarterback in the draft, you did nothing in free agency.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You're basically punting on the season. No team can win
- 11:25Speaker 3: with the level of quarterback play that they had last year.
- 11:29Speaker 3: The roster is simply not nearly good enough to compete.
- 11:32Speaker 3: So I think there's a chance they get in the
- 11:34Speaker 3: Sam Darnold mix, and then I think if they don't,
- 11:36Speaker 3: it tells us they're feeling pretty good about how they
- 11:40Speaker 3: can plot their path in the draft. You just can't
- 11:43Speaker 3: afford to wait the Giants, the Browns, the Titans. I
- 11:48Speaker 3: reversed the order there, but I would say that those
- 11:50Speaker 3: two those three teams in that order are most desperate
- 11:53Speaker 3: for a quarterback. When you've got three, they pick one, two, three,
- 11:57Speaker 3: and you're at six, like you just can't settle for
- 11:59Speaker 3: the possibility of maybe a quarterback getting there. So the
- 12:03Speaker 3: Raiders are going to be aggressive. This would not be
- 12:06Speaker 3: the off season that I would be shopping for a
- 12:08Speaker 3: quarterback in an aggressive way. But they are looking at
- 12:14Speaker 3: it like we don't have that many strikes in our
- 12:17Speaker 3: count and we're not going to just take one before
- 12:19Speaker 3: the games have actually begun.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So the other team that they had moved yesterday, the
- 12:26Speaker 1: Chiefs got rid of Joe Toney and they lopped off
- 12:31Speaker 1: sixteen million from the cap, which they needed to do.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Unity was sort of the star of that offensive line
- 12:38Speaker 1: this year, not just for the way he was playing
- 12:40Speaker 1: a guard but for the way he shifted out to
- 12:42Speaker 1: left tackle and was serviceable when that was clearly the
- 12:46Speaker 1: biggest achilles heel for the Chiefs. And even if it
- 12:49Speaker 1: wasn't a great Super Bowl performance, this is a guy
- 12:53Speaker 1: who accrued so much respect in the locker room and
- 12:56Speaker 1: then throughout the league, but they had to get rid
- 12:59Speaker 1: of him as they needed to save the money. If
- 13:02Speaker 1: you're the Bears and you've got Josiah Jackson now from
- 13:06Speaker 1: the Rams and Joe Tooney from the Chiefs, do you
- 13:10Speaker 1: think you have solidified your interior line or have you
- 13:15Speaker 1: just taken guys who are maybe one who underperformed because
- 13:18Speaker 1: of injury and then something quirky that happened in LA
- 13:21Speaker 1: with Jackson, or a guy who's old and might have
- 13:25Speaker 1: had his last best spot and was just really expensive.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Like how am I supposed to feel about this as
- 13:30Speaker 1: a Bears fan?
- 13:31Speaker 3: Really good, is what I would say. So let's talk
- 13:32Speaker 3: about this. Let's break it down in a couple of
- 13:34Speaker 3: different ways. You have this head coach and Ben Johnson,
- 13:37Speaker 3: who of course chose Chicago over pretty much any job
- 13:40Speaker 3: he wanted. Right that was substantial. It was a big
- 13:42Speaker 3: move for this franchise, and it spoke to I think
- 13:44Speaker 3: the way that Ben views the roster already and also
- 13:47Speaker 3: how I think he've used the front office and the
- 13:49Speaker 3: vision and the cohesion he felt during that interview process
- 13:52Speaker 3: with Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren, the GM and the
- 13:54Speaker 3: president of the Bears, amongst others who were also in
- 13:58Speaker 3: that mix. That being said, it's still important once you
- 14:02Speaker 3: land the coach that you make him happy beyond that, right, Like,
- 14:06Speaker 3: you know, you want to woo him during the interview
- 14:08Speaker 3: process to incentivize him to take this job, and then
- 14:10Speaker 3: you want to show him just how much on the
- 14:12Speaker 3: same page you two are. And you know, Jonah Jackson
- 14:15Speaker 3: is familiar to Ben Johnson. Four year starter for Ben
- 14:19Speaker 3: Johnson in Detroit, right, I mean the guy played left
- 14:21Speaker 3: guard for the first four years of his rookie contract.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I guess the entire day of his rookie contract with
- 14:26Speaker 3: the Lions. I'm sure that Ben had a prominent voice
- 14:30Speaker 3: in this process to acquire Jonah. It wasn't as if,
- 14:33Speaker 3: you know, the Bears went to him and said we're
- 14:34Speaker 3: thinking about acquiring Jonah. He said, I think I'm good
- 14:37Speaker 3: on that guy. Will maybe go a different direction. They said, no, no,
- 14:39Speaker 3: we're Acquiring him like that does not get done if
- 14:41Speaker 3: Ben Johnson was not confident in the player that he
- 14:44Speaker 3: still is Joe Tony. This is a good reminder that
- 14:47Speaker 3: circumstances are different for every single team. The Chiefs could
- 14:51Speaker 3: not go five minutes this past year without discussing just
- 14:55Speaker 3: how respected Joe Tooney is. He was in a locker
- 14:58Speaker 3: room that is full of future Hall of Fame player.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Certainly Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey and Chris Jones has
- 15:04Speaker 3: that trajectory, and maybe a couple of others get there.
- 15:06Speaker 3: By the time it's all said and done, Joe Toney
- 15:08Speaker 3: was frequently referred to as amongst the most if not
- 15:11Speaker 3: the most respected, dependable players on the entire roster. The
- 15:15Speaker 3: chief season was not falling apart. They lost one game
- 15:18Speaker 3: during the regular season until Week eight team when the
- 15:21Speaker 3: backups played against the Broncos. That being said, it was
- 15:23Speaker 3: clear their ceiling was not at the same level as
- 15:27Speaker 3: it had been in prior years in which they made
- 15:29Speaker 3: deep playoff runs. Because the offensive line was a disaster.
- 15:32Speaker 3: They took some swings. They have drafted in the third
- 15:35Speaker 3: and second round juan Ye Morris and Kingsley's Suamata Eya, respectively,
- 15:39Speaker 3: and those guys just weren't ready for prime time. So
- 15:41Speaker 3: they said, let's take our best offensive lineman, Joe Tooney
- 15:44Speaker 3: and make him a left tackle, which he was, by
- 15:47Speaker 3: the way, a first team All American at North Carolina
- 15:49Speaker 3: State way back when he came out. But Joe Tooney
- 15:52Speaker 3: has the strongest stamp of approval from Bill Belichick and
- 15:55Speaker 3: Andy Reid. I would say it's a pretty good starting point.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Does he have five years left in him? Probably not,
- 16:01Speaker 3: But does he have two years left in him? I
- 16:03Speaker 3: sure think so. And I think I don't know this
- 16:06Speaker 3: for a fact. I haven't seen it report anywhere. I'm
- 16:08Speaker 3: just using my common sense here. Wouldn't stun me if
- 16:10Speaker 3: the Bears and Joe too, and you find a way
- 16:12Speaker 3: to do some sort of short term pact that maybe
- 16:16Speaker 3: guarantees Joe all of this season, which he's gonna make
- 16:20Speaker 3: that money from the Bears no matter what. You don't
- 16:21Speaker 3: trade for a guy and then cut him, but guarantees
- 16:23Speaker 3: him this year, maybe some of next year as well.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Maybe they say, hey, we'll do a three year deal
- 16:28Speaker 3: that reduces your cap hit a little bit this year,
- 16:31Speaker 3: maybe your average annual value drops down by a little bit.
- 16:34Speaker 3: So maybe a one year, sixteen million dollar deal turns
- 16:37Speaker 3: into a three year forty two million dollar deal where
- 16:40Speaker 3: the third and final year is non guaranteed. So Joe's
- 16:42Speaker 3: no longer giving it. He doesn't no longer has that
- 16:45Speaker 3: elite upside in him at age thirty four or thirty five,
- 16:48Speaker 3: which you don't see many of those in the NFL
- 16:50Speaker 3: will move on. But in the short term, the Bears
- 16:53Speaker 3: have completely reconstructed not just the talent of their offensive
- 16:56Speaker 3: line room, but I really think that the I would say,
- 16:59Speaker 3: the leadership, the maturity, the intangibles to that lock to
- 17:03Speaker 3: that offensive line room, which when you've got a young
- 17:05Speaker 3: quarterback with so many gifts but had so many things
- 17:08Speaker 3: last year that just did not work out in his favor,
- 17:11Speaker 3: you got to find ways to pour every resource into him.
- 17:14Speaker 3: And with Ben Jonson, of these two offensive linemen, it's
- 17:16Speaker 3: a darn good start for them, really good.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I may or may not. Yesterday after the Bears traded
- 17:21Speaker 1: for Joe Toney, have decided that the interior offensive line,
- 17:26Speaker 1: which to me might be the most important point of
- 17:32Speaker 1: sort of strategy and competence that you need to run
- 17:36Speaker 1: an offense with a guy like Kayleb Williams who got
- 17:38Speaker 1: sacked so much last year. I might have felt overconfident.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I may or may not have been in the Bears
- 17:44Speaker 1: to win the Super Bowl. I'm just saying, Simon, I.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Think you're required to do so every year, right, isn't
- 17:49Speaker 3: that just like in the Milman Blood I am.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I am required to do it. But I might have
- 17:54Speaker 1: done it yesterday with more enthusiasm than I have in
- 17:56Speaker 1: years past, sin since justin fields prior to this past year.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So it's been two years since I felt this confidence,
- 18:04Speaker 1: which is a run.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Yeah that is.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And they might not be done yet. Yeah, I've heard
- 18:11Speaker 2: the rumors they might go up to the center from Atlanta.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Yes, Drew Dollman is the fourth.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Best center of football, so that would just be huge, huge.
- 18:19Speaker 2: You keep adding that.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Think about how many times we've talked about the Falcons
- 18:23Speaker 1: running game and the most important part of their running
- 18:26Speaker 1: game being their center in their right car. Yep, same system, Yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: same system scheme, Yes, exactly.
- 18:33Speaker 3: So.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Of course, because my kid isn't paying attention in his
- 18:36Speaker 1: ap psychology class, yesterday, we were texting about the Bears
- 18:40Speaker 1: getting Drew Dolmen and how important he has been to
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons run game. That's when I pulled the trigger,
- 18:45Speaker 1: by the way, on the Super Bowl that it was
- 18:47Speaker 1: after I decided they were getting Drew Dolman.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Last thing, I'll say it here on the Bears. I'm
- 18:52Speaker 3: sure we want to get to other topics as well.
- 18:53Speaker 3: You can say whatever you want about Ryan Pole, So
- 18:55Speaker 3: I happened to believe has done a pretty good job
- 18:58Speaker 3: in terms of in a few ways. First of all,
- 19:00Speaker 3: they made a masterstroke trade to land Caleb Williams. He's
- 19:02Speaker 3: going to be a good player. I still believe that
- 19:04Speaker 3: was an excellent deal. On top of that, the books
- 19:07Speaker 3: are clean here in Chicago for the most part. Like
- 19:09Speaker 3: they've made two trades for guys and Jonah and Joe
- 19:13Speaker 3: who are counting for like thirty plus million dollars in
- 19:16Speaker 3: twenty twenty five as the contracts are currently written, they
- 19:20Speaker 3: still have like fifty million to spend. Right, And there
- 19:23Speaker 3: are some in house free agents that will see on right,
- 19:26Speaker 3: like Keenan Allen probably seems like he's not likely to return,
- 19:31Speaker 3: but we shall see, right, Like, the books have largely
- 19:34Speaker 3: been kept clean, and Chicago is not one of those teams.
- 19:37Speaker 3: And this is not a negative, but they don't push
- 19:39Speaker 3: all their money into the future a la Philly, Cleveland,
- 19:42Speaker 3: New Orleans, Pittsburgh, et cetera. Like they kind of keep
- 19:46Speaker 3: structure flat. So there are actually is some good wiggle
- 19:48Speaker 3: room here for this team to despite the fact that
- 19:51Speaker 3: they've already made two notable trades, do go big game
- 19:55Speaker 3: hunting maybe and Drew Dollman, maybe some other pieces as well.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I know Chia was good draft before we get their chat,
- 20:01Speaker 2: I needed to know more about DK because to me,
- 20:04Speaker 2: it's a big deal where this might structure a whole division.
- 20:07Speaker 2: That division is the AFC East. Can't everyone I'm hearing
- 20:10Speaker 2: from is Bills Patriots? If they're the two teams playing
- 20:14Speaker 2: for DK field here is locked in with the Patriots?
- 20:16Speaker 2: Is that true? Is that really the guy the pitcher's
- 20:18Speaker 2: going after? Is that a smoke screen by them to
- 20:21Speaker 2: drive the price to the Bills try to get DK
- 20:23Speaker 2: because it's it's a last year right a DK's deal.
- 20:26Speaker 2: So if he gets traded here, he is gonna get
- 20:28Speaker 2: paid a big, big amount of money.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Fifty factors to note here, and you're right of the
- 20:31Speaker 3: contract is I think if the Seahawks get this done,
- 20:34Speaker 3: they're gonna work very hard to make sure he's an
- 20:36Speaker 3: AFC team. It's not that you can't trade a player
- 20:40Speaker 3: from the NFC to another team in the NFC, but
- 20:43Speaker 3: there's something a little bit different about this high profile
- 20:46Speaker 3: trades where you know, if DK gets traded to the Patriots,
- 20:49Speaker 3: the Seahawks play them once every four years, they play
- 20:52Speaker 3: them in Seattle once every eight years. Like, I haven't
- 20:55Speaker 3: done the math or checked when New England last played
- 20:58Speaker 3: or Buffalo last played in Seattle, But I mean, it's
- 21:00Speaker 3: possible that DK could be on. He could be retired
- 21:04Speaker 3: by the time they next play in Buffalo if it
- 21:06Speaker 3: was this past year, right, that that is possible, And
- 21:08Speaker 3: it's a factor that I think teams are somewhat mindful of.
- 21:12Speaker 3: So let's start there. I think AFC would be the preference,
- 21:14Speaker 3: all things being equal. On top of that, you're right,
- 21:16Speaker 3: he's gonna need a new deal as well. He's scheduled
- 21:19Speaker 3: to make eighteen million bucks this year. He signed a
- 21:22Speaker 3: three year, seventy two million dollar extension a few off
- 21:26Speaker 3: seasons ago. That no longer is commensurate with the market.
- 21:30Speaker 3: It just isn't. Jamar Chase probably explode the wide receiver market,
- 21:35Speaker 3: but it's already boomed a lot since DK did his deal.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So if you're a team it's acquiring Dk Metcalf, you
- 21:40Speaker 3: have to account for not just the draft capital that
- 21:43Speaker 3: Seattle once, but also the fat they're gonna have to
- 21:45Speaker 3: pay Dk Metcalf, which kind of deflates the draft capital
- 21:49Speaker 3: value a little bit. You're paying double freight in this case.
- 21:54Speaker 3: DK is an interesting one, right, So such a talented player, explosive,
- 21:58Speaker 3: he's one of the best deep thatt receivers in the
- 22:00Speaker 3: entire NFL. He also is a player that has run
- 22:02Speaker 3: hot and cold, right. I mean, this is a guy
- 22:04Speaker 3: who at times we've been talking about him and need
- 22:06Speaker 3: to control his emotions. More so, I think he needs
- 22:09Speaker 3: to go somewhere where he feels as though he's got
- 22:12Speaker 3: a chance to win, right, And so I think New
- 22:14Speaker 3: England do they need him desperately? Yeah? They do? And
- 22:18Speaker 3: do I think that the Patriots have some things going
- 22:19Speaker 3: for them. Drake may certainly looks like he's a really
- 22:22Speaker 3: promising player, and Mike Vrabel is a stud head coach,
- 22:25Speaker 3: But I think they're more than Dk Metcalf away from
- 22:28Speaker 3: getting anywhere close to competing in that division. So I
- 22:31Speaker 3: think I might be looking more towards teams actually like
- 22:34Speaker 3: the Chargers, who have been reported as a DK Metcalf suitor.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I think the Texans have been mentioned. I think the
- 22:39Speaker 3: Bills have been mentioned. Teams like that that if you're
- 22:42Speaker 3: DK or if you're those teams, you're saying to yourself, hey,
- 22:44Speaker 3: we get this guy. We might be the team to
- 22:46Speaker 3: beat in the AFC. This is unfair to the Chiefs
- 22:49Speaker 3: in my opinion, But right now, I'm just telling you
- 22:52Speaker 3: talking to people around the NFL, this is and not
- 22:56Speaker 3: every person right I haven't canvassed every single person who
- 22:59Speaker 3: has an opinion, but I've talked to enough people that
- 23:01Speaker 3: feel like they're there's some sharks in the water right now,
- 23:04Speaker 3: right like they feel as though Kansas City is going
- 23:08Speaker 3: to be excellent next year, but that the Super Bowl
- 23:10Speaker 3: reminded them that you can still make the playoffs and
- 23:15Speaker 3: do some damage if you're not the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 23:17Speaker 3: And I think people feel as though, well, Casey deserves
- 23:20Speaker 3: to be the favorite, and I'm sure they will be
- 23:23Speaker 3: at least in the AFC West. You know, you might
- 23:26Speaker 3: be able to get them in a one game scenario
- 23:29Speaker 3: as well. And breathe some life into your franchise.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So you were at the combine. I'm sure you were
- 23:37Speaker 1: having a lot of these conversations that give me your
- 23:41Speaker 1: most impressive prospect from the combine.
- 23:46Speaker 3: So I did not spend a lot of time at
- 23:48Speaker 3: the podiums or the players. We're speaking to the media.
- 23:50Speaker 3: So I'll give my evaluation just from like a from
- 23:54Speaker 3: the perspective of what he did on the field. And
- 23:57Speaker 3: it's polarizing, it is, it's probably it's probably Shamar Stewart
- 24:01Speaker 3: or Matthew Golden from two separate Texas schools, Texas A
- 24:05Speaker 3: and M for Shamar Stewart and Matthew Golden at Texas.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And I'll lean towards Golden for this reason. Is I
- 24:12Speaker 3: prefer when the combine looks like the tape, and the
- 24:15Speaker 3: tape looks like the combine as opposed to the combine
- 24:18Speaker 3: not perfectly aligning with the tape. So Shamar Stewart, I've
- 24:22Speaker 3: used this phrase fifty times, might as well make it
- 24:24Speaker 3: fifty one times, is the most fascinating prospect in the draft.
- 24:27Speaker 3: He six foot five. He dropped from two hundred and
- 24:30Speaker 3: eighty pounds to two hundred and sixty four pounds from
- 24:32Speaker 3: the senior Bowl to the combine, which is like a
- 24:35Speaker 3: month apart, so he may have been like in combine
- 24:38Speaker 3: training mode, but still at two hundred and sixty four pounds,
- 24:40Speaker 3: you were in a four to six oh forty. He
- 24:43Speaker 3: had one of the best vertical jumps of any defensive
- 24:46Speaker 3: player at like forty or forty one inches. His broad
- 24:49Speaker 3: jump was eleven feet. The guy, if you saw him,
- 24:52Speaker 3: is one of the most impressive looking humans that you
- 24:55Speaker 3: will see. He had four and a half sacks in
- 24:58Speaker 3: his career though four and a half, one and a
- 25:00Speaker 3: half in each of his three seasons at A and M,
- 25:03Speaker 3: so you're gonna pay the guy to be a pass rusher,
- 25:06Speaker 3: and he had just one and a half sacks each
- 25:08Speaker 3: of his three college seasons. He's a really, really talented
- 25:11Speaker 3: player and a really solid kid too. This is not
- 25:15Speaker 3: a kid who just didn't produce because he wasn't engaged.
- 25:17Speaker 3: It was just couldn't quite finish the job on these sacks.
- 25:21Speaker 3: I think he's gonna end up going as high as
- 25:24Speaker 3: like pick seven, eight, ten. I have him a little
- 25:29Speaker 3: bit lower in the rankings because I'm just a bit
- 25:31Speaker 3: more risk averse pulling. You know, that would be a
- 25:33Speaker 3: big bet on a guy who had such a modest
- 25:36Speaker 3: college career. Matthew Golden from Texas at one hundred and
- 25:39Speaker 3: ninety one pounds. We're going to four two nine forty
- 25:43Speaker 3: and this kid can scoot. He had a really good season.
- 25:46Speaker 3: He had just one year at Texas. He was previously
- 25:48Speaker 3: at Houston, but he had a great finish to the year.
- 25:51Speaker 3: In two of the final four games Texas played, he
- 25:54Speaker 3: had one hundred and forty nine or more receiving yards.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I wish he had gotten to one hundred and fifty
- 25:58Speaker 3: because one hundred and forty nine just sounds a little
- 26:01Speaker 3: bit awkward. That being said, you guys get the point.
- 26:04Speaker 3: He was big when it mattered most for Texas, and
- 26:07Speaker 3: he can fly like that is clear on tape. He
- 26:09Speaker 3: was the second fastest player in Indianapolis, behind only Max Harriston,
- 26:13Speaker 3: a guy who I've loved throughout the process from Kentucky
- 26:16Speaker 3: at four to eight. That being said, Golden, a guy
- 26:20Speaker 3: who I think I who grew on me throughout the
- 26:23Speaker 3: year because his play improved throughout the year, shouldn't be viewed,
- 26:26Speaker 3: at least in my estimation, as a first round lock.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Don't we have enough evidence at this point of guys
- 26:32Speaker 1: who are physical freaks and didn't perform in college not
- 26:36Speaker 1: being the best reaches for the NFL draft.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Yes, that being said, there are like things that
- 26:45Speaker 3: are tantalizing in life that we consistently go back to
- 26:48Speaker 3: all the time. Right, it's just hard not to, you know, Like,
- 26:52Speaker 3: you know, or do you prefer fashion over function when
- 26:54Speaker 3: it comes to your car, or you know things like that, right,
- 26:57Speaker 3: or like people will sacrifice warmth or comfort with their
- 27:00Speaker 3: clothing to look a little bit cooler. You know, it's
- 27:02Speaker 3: like it's just hard not to, you know. So I
- 27:05Speaker 3: think probably the truth is that Shamar Stewart, he's going
- 27:09Speaker 3: to be one of those guys that a GM either
- 27:11Speaker 3: gets the feather in the cap or perhaps the walking
- 27:13Speaker 3: papers from a few years from now. Right, you either
- 27:15Speaker 3: sit there you look at genius because you were audacious
- 27:18Speaker 3: enough to take a kid whose skills were so so enticing,
- 27:22Speaker 3: or hey, the guy ends up in three years with
- 27:25Speaker 3: just four and a half sacks at the NFL level
- 27:27Speaker 3: and that's just not good enough from a first round pick.
- 27:30Speaker 3: It was paid to rush the passer.
- 27:31Speaker 2: It's like that James Harris quote chat it's I'm not
- 27:34Speaker 2: a model. That's why I wasn't a buddy in the combine.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I'm a football player.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's an issue. Right.
- 27:38Speaker 2: There's a couple of guys that looked the part. Are
- 27:41Speaker 2: they a football player? So yeah, I mean off that topic.
- 27:44Speaker 2: You know, I've heard Quinn yrr is the guy who
- 27:46Speaker 2: heard his draft prospect of the combine. Are there anyone
- 27:49Speaker 2: that jumps out through that really hurt their draft stock
- 27:51Speaker 2: from the combine? Because we know that, you know, guys
- 27:53Speaker 2: are sitting out the combine nowadays because of this fear,
- 27:56Speaker 2: this exact fear of hurting their own draft stock.
- 27:58Speaker 3: You know, I'll give you a few guys performed or
- 28:00Speaker 3: didn't perform in the way in which I think he
- 28:02Speaker 3: could helped them or hurt them, or help them by
- 28:04Speaker 3: doing the opposite. Here, I love Tyler Booker. He's a
- 28:07Speaker 3: really good player from Alabama. I think he still goes
- 28:09Speaker 3: in the first round, but he ended up doing all
- 28:12Speaker 3: the testing after measuring at like six', five you're hundred
- 28:15Speaker 3: and twenty five. Pounds he's a big. Human he's A
- 28:17Speaker 3: connecticut kid by the way as. WELL i think he's new.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Haveymn but this is like this guy is hard to
- 28:23Speaker 3: miss and he had a great college career At. ALABAMA
- 28:26Speaker 3: i mean you hear, IT i mean they just they love.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Him Nick, saban who will be on the Broadcast i'm,
- 28:30Speaker 3: sure will have glowing things to say About. Booker athletic
- 28:33Speaker 3: testing though just wasn't Great and there are teams that
- 28:35Speaker 3: are just a little bit scared on guards who aren't that.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Explosive he ran a five three nine. Forty doesn't matter
- 28:41Speaker 3: how fast you are as a, Guard, no but you
- 28:44Speaker 3: know it also suggests that your foot quickness is not
- 28:47Speaker 3: in line with where some of these defensive tackles. ARE
- 28:50Speaker 3: i still think he goes to the first, round BUT
- 28:51Speaker 3: i moved him down from like maybe a guy that
- 28:54Speaker 3: could go as high as like thirteen fourteen to maybe
- 28:56Speaker 3: a guy that ends up going like twenty twenty. One
- 29:00Speaker 3: Teammate Jalen, MILROE i think actually would have benefited from
- 29:02Speaker 3: doing some stuff at the. Combine the throwing is always
- 29:06Speaker 3: going to be a hot, topic but don't you guys
- 29:08Speaker 3: Think AND i don't want to put words into your,
- 29:11Speaker 3: mouth so if you disagree vehemently let me. Know but
- 29:14Speaker 3: If Jalen milroe had gone to the combine and run
- 29:17Speaker 3: a four three five, FORTY i think it would have
- 29:20Speaker 3: helped him a lot because it would have been a
- 29:21Speaker 3: reminder to people that for the deficiency he does have
- 29:25Speaker 3: right now is a pocket and rhythm. Passer he's one
- 29:29Speaker 3: of the most explosive players in THE. Nfl in the,
- 29:31Speaker 3: draft he just is like i'd be If i'm Taking
- 29:34Speaker 3: Jalen milroe AND i haven't. Finished i'm working on my
- 29:37Speaker 3: top one hundred right. Now it's not, finished it won't
- 29:39Speaker 3: be for some. Time there's a lot of work to
- 29:41Speaker 3: be done. There but you can tell Me jalen deserves
- 29:44Speaker 3: to be. Fortieth you could also say he might be
- 29:46Speaker 3: closer to seventy. Fifth he's such a tantalizing. GUY i
- 29:50Speaker 3: think if he had, run it really would have helped
- 29:52Speaker 3: remind us of why he is so. Intriguing and you,
- 29:56Speaker 3: know just generally, speaking like running backs and wide receivers
- 29:58Speaker 3: that don't run great to come out of the combine
- 30:01Speaker 3: feel a little bit. Different Caleb johnson From iowa's a
- 30:04Speaker 3: really great. Player it was just like a perfect fit
- 30:06Speaker 3: for a zone. Scheme he just wants to put one
- 30:08Speaker 3: foot in the ground and just it's get a great,
- 30:10Speaker 3: vision just hit the hole and go run a four or, five,
- 30:12Speaker 3: seven not a great number for. Him so running backs
- 30:16Speaker 3: and wide receivers that missed that speed mark are always
- 30:18Speaker 3: going to be impacted in a negative. Way. Unfortunately we
- 30:21Speaker 3: just you just don't see many four or five or
- 30:24Speaker 3: faster excuse, me four or five or slower wide receivers
- 30:26Speaker 3: going round. One and if you're closer to four to
- 30:28Speaker 3: six than four or, five it might mean That Caleb
- 30:31Speaker 3: johnson goes sixtieth as opposed TO i thought maybe thirty
- 30:34Speaker 3: Fifth at one point during the, PROCESS.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I feel, like h everybody would be better. Off maybe
- 30:41Speaker 1: you disagree with, This, okay everyone would be better off
- 30:44Speaker 1: if nobody worked out at the combine and you just
- 30:48Speaker 1: used film that you had and the players on the
- 30:51Speaker 1: field and what you did at the, Combine you did your,
- 30:54Speaker 1: Interviews you got to meet with the players one on.
- 30:57Speaker 1: One you got to know them, Personally you got to
- 30:59Speaker 1: get a sen to who they. Are you got to
- 31:01Speaker 1: see how they perform in front of the. MEDIA i
- 31:04Speaker 1: think the combine creates such recency bias that he screws
- 31:08Speaker 1: up the metrics and the measurements and the feelings for
- 31:12Speaker 1: all the people who have been doing the work all
- 31:13Speaker 1: season long and changes the calculus on this. STUFF i
- 31:17Speaker 1: think it's a terrible way to try to manage the
- 31:21Speaker 1: draft because you go into it, thinking oh my, GOD
- 31:23Speaker 1: i just saw a Superhero Jalen. Milroe judgement on what you.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Saw we've got so much film On Jalen. Milroe if
- 31:31Speaker 1: you need the combine In Jalen milroe to run a four,
- 31:35Speaker 1: three five point forty to, decide oh my, god we
- 31:38Speaker 1: have to get this. Guy and then you get him
- 31:40Speaker 1: in a camp and, realize wait a, second he's not
- 31:42Speaker 1: an accurate. Passer he's just a really dynamic. Athlete shame on,
- 31:46Speaker 1: you not your, field but on the.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Scouts So i'll take it one step. Further we're in
- 31:51Speaker 3: the same vicinity, here but a little bit. Different i've
- 31:53Speaker 3: wondered why we don't have the draft five days after
- 31:56Speaker 3: The National championship, game, Right and you, THINK i wonder, if,
- 31:59Speaker 3: like AND i hope this has not come across as
- 32:02Speaker 3: piling on BECAUSE i was incredibly, optimistic like in a
- 32:07Speaker 3: detrimental manner On Anthony richardson for fantasy football purposes last,
- 32:11Speaker 3: Year does that guy go? Forth? Overall if the combine
- 32:14Speaker 3: is excuse, me if the draft is done On january,
- 32:17Speaker 3: twentieth as opposed To april. Twentieth you have three months
- 32:21Speaker 3: to think and overthink, stuff you, Know And i'm sitting
- 32:23Speaker 3: here thinking to, Myself, okay, YEAH i, mean it is
- 32:26Speaker 3: impressive that some of these Guys Chamar stewart And Anthony
- 32:28Speaker 3: richardson can run as fast as they can at that.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Size but if every coach AND gm says the starting
- 32:34Speaker 3: point of the evaluation is the, tape maybe it'll be.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Different and you, know the is it a shorter window to?
- 32:42Speaker 3: EVALUATE i, mean, yes for the first, time but it
- 32:46Speaker 3: won't be for every year after, that. Right it just
- 32:48Speaker 3: means that your scouts startup on the twenty twenty sixth
- 32:51Speaker 3: draft On january thirtieth of twenty twenty, five as opposed
- 32:54Speaker 3: To april thirtieth of twenty twenty. Five so it is
- 32:59Speaker 3: an interesting. Debate AND i do wonder about how the
- 33:02Speaker 3: combine will look in future years because of the number
- 33:06Speaker 3: of players that are opting out AND i meet optioning
- 33:09Speaker 3: out of the testing of, course because they all still showed.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Up but last, YEAR i, Mean Marvin Harrison junior showed,
- 33:14Speaker 3: up did interviews? MEASURED i think just Left Jaden daniels
- 33:16Speaker 3: from the. League neighbors didn't even take, measurements and those
- 33:20Speaker 3: guys had two of the greatest rookie seasons we've ever.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Seen so it's sort of, like if those guys are
- 33:25Speaker 3: gonna be completely unbothered by their participation or lacked the
- 33:30Speaker 3: up with the, combine what is the point of. It
- 33:32Speaker 3: it's a fascinating. Debate you. KNOW i like the combine
- 33:35Speaker 3: still because of you, know the intel, gathering AND i
- 33:38Speaker 3: do enjoy seeing some of these kids who are more
- 33:41Speaker 3: Like day three players who can reaffirm or boost their.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Stock that being, said it's it's a very different event
- 33:47Speaker 3: when you're sitting there and each position group that comes,
- 33:50Speaker 3: by you're, like, okay so my top wide, receiver no
- 33:53Speaker 3: sign of, him top quarterbacks no sign of. Them it
- 33:56Speaker 3: just it just hits a little bit. Differently there's no
- 33:58Speaker 3: two ways around.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Me WHEN i talked to Coaches chad the, combine, honestly
- 34:03Speaker 2: it's mental. Warfare it's not really about on the. Field
- 34:06Speaker 2: it's about making these kids, uncomfortable asking them crazy, questions
- 34:10Speaker 2: honestly talking shit to. Them like a lot of these
- 34:13Speaker 2: drills you see ON. Tv sometimes there are at ten
- 34:14Speaker 2: o'clock at, night like it's just messing with these kids'
- 34:18Speaker 2: heads and it always cracks me. Up but it's the
- 34:21Speaker 2: great part of that Movie Draft. Day did they go
- 34:24Speaker 2: to the kid's birthday? Party like that's what this three
- 34:26Speaker 2: months is. About all the stupid. Shit wonn't even think
- 34:29Speaker 2: about it to them trying to figure out who this
- 34:31Speaker 2: person is as a, man how are they mentally and
- 34:33Speaker 2: what will they be coming out of? It So i'm with, You.
- 34:36Speaker 2: CHAD i get like the combine can be a little
- 34:38Speaker 2: bit much at, times but OVERALL i love the idea
- 34:41Speaker 2: of it of they're just trying to poke and prong
- 34:44Speaker 2: with these guys and really figure stuff out what kind
- 34:45Speaker 2: of man they are because it is so. Mental and
- 34:48Speaker 2: you know a guy we heard a ton About chad
- 34:50Speaker 2: that might have not done the best of the combine Is, sanders,
- 34:55Speaker 2: RIGHT i mean this is a quarterback. Position he's polarizing
- 34:58Speaker 2: a lot of front. Offices what's your view on that? Field,
- 35:01Speaker 2: like what are you hearing about him right? Now Where
- 35:04Speaker 2: i'm of the mindset of teams that love him are
- 35:06Speaker 2: gonna absolutely talk about him and bash him to the
- 35:08Speaker 2: media right, now because that is the game of the,
- 35:11Speaker 2: draft Right they're gonna say they don't like the way
- 35:13Speaker 2: he spoke that he's, arrogant that he's two. Cocky they
- 35:16Speaker 2: probably love. That behind closed, doors they're just like, thinking of,
- 35:20Speaker 2: COURSE i don't be trading up to number one or
- 35:21Speaker 2: number two to get this. Kid so what are you
- 35:23Speaker 2: hearing about him right?
- 35:24Speaker 3: Now? YEAH i take a lot of that stuff with
- 35:27Speaker 3: a grain of. Salts what's what's, Reported And i'm not
- 35:30Speaker 3: talking about the. People i'm just talking about like the
- 35:33Speaker 3: people that are. Reporting i'm just, saying like the content
- 35:35Speaker 3: because of what you're describing, silent is that like there
- 35:37Speaker 3: might be some, motivation, right there might be a motivation
- 35:39Speaker 3: to get this guy to, fall you, know like because
- 35:42Speaker 3: it's it's a completely unpredictable event and you're at the
- 35:46Speaker 3: mercy of. Others if you want to shift your draft, order,
- 35:48Speaker 3: right if you want to go from six to four
- 35:50Speaker 3: and you're The, raiders you got to convince The patriots
- 35:52Speaker 3: to do a. Trade you can't just, say, hey well
- 35:54Speaker 3: we'll slip, flop.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Right SO.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I have NOT i had a conversation with somebody WHO
- 36:03Speaker 3: i spent time With shador and explicitly has said to
- 36:05Speaker 3: me something that has negatively impacted my evaluation of. HIM
- 36:10Speaker 3: i Like schodor as a. Player i'm not as bullish
- 36:13Speaker 3: on either of the quarterbacks at the top AS i
- 36:15Speaker 3: was the first three last, year WHICH i think is
- 36:18Speaker 3: in line with where most people wind. UP i and
- 36:22Speaker 3: that has nothing to do with them as humans and
- 36:23Speaker 3: has she. Has it's just from a pure football from
- 36:25Speaker 3: a football talent evaluation. Standpoint so Cam, ward my top
- 36:29Speaker 3: thirty two will drop tomorrow ON espn sometime. Soon if not,
- 36:32Speaker 3: tomorrow it's very. Soon and Cam ward Is i'm, SORRY
- 36:35Speaker 3: i should know better six or, seven And shador is.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Seventeenth so AND i last, YEAR i mean those guys
- 36:42Speaker 3: at the. Top from the day the draft order was,
- 36:44Speaker 3: SAID i, said let's just move on to pick, four
- 36:46Speaker 3: because in some order is going to Be, Caleb Jaden.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Drake you decide which order it actually. Is more of
- 36:52Speaker 3: the question was would it Be jaden Or drake it
- 36:54Speaker 3: picked number. Two so, ANYWAYS i think those guys both.
- 36:58Speaker 3: GO i think Cam ward's going first. OVER i just
- 37:00Speaker 3: think that's where we've. LANDED i don't know to, who
- 37:02Speaker 3: but if to, somebody and The titans have found themselves
- 37:05Speaker 3: in a pretty good position, actually BECAUSE i do, believe
- 37:08Speaker 3: and again there's no such thing as a unanimous sentiment
- 37:11Speaker 3: in THE, nfl BUT i spoke to significantly more people
- 37:16Speaker 3: that if they had the option to choose Between Cam
- 37:18Speaker 3: mooord Or shoot Or, sanders would Prefer ward To sanders
- 37:22Speaker 3: while still Liking. Sanders it's not, like, HEY i Like
- 37:25Speaker 3: cam And schador does nothing for. Me it's just if
- 37:27Speaker 3: you're giving me the option one or the, other it's
- 37:29Speaker 3: a binary decision. Here i'm Taking Cam. Morton AND i
- 37:33Speaker 3: also think that because teams with their quarterback preferences in
- 37:39Speaker 3: some cases it is like you like one guy and
- 37:43Speaker 3: you don't like the. Other it's like house, hunting right
- 37:45Speaker 3: you might see two houses for homes for similar. Value
- 37:48Speaker 3: you really like, one but the other lacks three features
- 37:51Speaker 3: that you really feel are must and you're not going
- 37:54Speaker 3: to have any interest in. It SO i think The,
- 37:57Speaker 3: titans whether they want to take camboard or whether they
- 37:59Speaker 3: find a team that prefers cam word enough that they
- 38:01Speaker 3: would move ahead Of, cleveland who of course has number,
- 38:04Speaker 3: two they can get a pretty decent trade package. Here
- 38:07Speaker 3: but it wouldn't surprise me if the first three picks
- 38:09Speaker 3: in the draft are two quarterbacks and then one Of
- 38:12Speaker 3: Travis hunter Or Abdul, carter which means despite The patriots
- 38:16Speaker 3: winning In week eighteen and pushing them down to one to,
- 38:19Speaker 3: four they may well end up with one of to,
- 38:22Speaker 3: me the two best players in the. DRAFT i still
- 38:25Speaker 3: View Abdul carter Well Travis hunter first and Then Abdul
- 38:28Speaker 3: carter second is the two best players in this. Class.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Simon even for elite, prospects THE nfl draft can be
- 38:35Speaker 1: a nerve racking. Experience think about. It after years of hard, work,
- 38:39Speaker 1: preparation and physical, sacrifice you endure the invasive poking and
- 38:43Speaker 1: prodding of the combine, process and then one day In,
- 38:46Speaker 1: april you get all dressed, up surrounded by loved ones
- 38:48Speaker 1: and hangers, on and you anxiously wait for the phone
- 38:50Speaker 1: to ring and your life to. Change and if front
- 38:53Speaker 1: offices don't like what they, see if they sent you
- 38:56Speaker 1: lack the proper, confidence that agonizing weight can turn into public. Humiliation,
- 39:02Speaker 1: Simon hunter And Field. YATES i can tell by the
- 39:05Speaker 1: looks on your faces you're thinking What i'm. Thinking it's
- 39:07Speaker 1: the same situation with our. Underpants if we work, hard
- 39:11Speaker 1: we make. Sacrifices we enjoyed the pokes and prods of
- 39:13Speaker 1: a demanding. Lifestyle but even when we're all dressed, up
- 39:16Speaker 1: surrounded by our own loved ones and hangers. On if
- 39:19Speaker 1: we lack the elite downstairs preparation and undercarriage confidence of, flexible,
- 39:23Speaker 1: breathable top quality, underwear we too run the risk of
- 39:26Speaker 1: lowered expectations of public. Humiliation, luckily our beloved, Sponsor Tommy
- 39:30Speaker 1: john can end your agonizing. Weight every day they make
- 39:34Speaker 1: the metaphorical, call offering you the assurance of best in
- 39:38Speaker 1: class underwear and casual. Essentials With Tommy, john you effortlessly
- 39:42Speaker 1: stride across the stage of, life greeting The commissioner Of
- 39:44Speaker 1: comfort with the confident handshake of a man who's downstairs
- 39:48Speaker 1: affairs are in. Order, simon why will you be wearing
- 39:52Speaker 1: More Tommy john in twenty twenty?

- 40:14Speaker 3: You really it did well done By Matt.
- 40:17Speaker 1: FIELD i want to switch quickly to fantasy for a
- 40:21Speaker 1: second dynasty. Draft, yeah THE nfl draft is a great
- 40:26Speaker 1: time to start thinking about dynasty. Draft if you are
- 40:29Speaker 1: drafting number one on the dynasty draft right, now who
- 40:32Speaker 1: do you? TAKE i THINK i know exactly who should. Go,
- 40:36Speaker 1: Okay i'm Curious simon's. TAKE i want your.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Take rookie only or is this just or is this in?
- 40:41Speaker 3: General like, HEY i would.
- 40:42Speaker 1: SAY i think it's, both like start from scratch and
- 40:45Speaker 1: then rookie.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Only, Okay so If i'm starting from, scratch It's Jamar,
- 40:48Speaker 3: Chase i'm going to lean wide. Receiver just in, general
- 40:52Speaker 3: they're just a much longer shelf. Life and While Justin
- 40:55Speaker 3: jefferson And Jamar chase is a healthy, debate he's one year.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Younger more quarterback certainty there, right not that you, Know
- 41:02Speaker 3: Sam darnold showed last year that they know what they're
- 41:04Speaker 3: doing in terms of quarterback evaluation of. Development SO jj
- 41:07Speaker 3: could be, Great But Joe burrow is a you, know
- 41:09Speaker 3: AN NFL mvp or candidate to be AN NFL. Mvp
- 41:13Speaker 3: so that duo should go nowhere for a long. Time
- 41:16Speaker 3: that rookie, dynasty It's Ashton denty and it's not, close
- 41:20Speaker 3: especially because Maybe i'll be, surprised but it just feels
- 41:25Speaker 3: like he's gonna end up in a spot where like
- 41:29Speaker 3: if he goes To, VEGAS i might adjust my my
- 41:31Speaker 3: sentiment a little. Bit and Like omari And hampton went To,
- 41:34Speaker 3: denver they had the number one run block win rate
- 41:37Speaker 3: offensive line last, year and they need a, GUY i
- 41:40Speaker 3: might flip, that but without knowing where they're going to.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Land It's Ashton, denty WHO i think is truly in
- 41:45Speaker 3: a class of his own in this historic running back.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Class like this guy is not, good he's not, great
- 41:51Speaker 3: he is super. Elite that's.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Interesting, Oh Diamon, simon do you have thoughts on that
- 41:58Speaker 1: you're a draft, Guy you're a dynasty draft.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Guy, yeah it's.
- 42:01Speaker 2: AGAIN i, Mean field's doing it the nicest way to
- 42:04Speaker 2: you chat where it's like you need so much info,
- 42:06Speaker 2: nowadays all in your league in the settings that it's
- 42:09Speaker 2: really hard to say what you should do in your rookie.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Draft like in my league last, YEAR i had the
- 42:13Speaker 2: fifth pick in this nice League i've had with my
- 42:15Speaker 2: buddies for fifteen, years AND i luckily worked my magic
- 42:20Speaker 2: Got Jane daniels BECAUSE i just kept talking about everyone.
- 42:23Speaker 2: ELSE i, go you're looking at Pass On, harrison all time, receiver,
- 42:27Speaker 2: neighbors all time my, receiver And Jane daniels felt to.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Me and it's in a TWO qb, league and NOW
- 42:32Speaker 2: i might have a top five guy for the next
- 42:33Speaker 2: ten to fifteen.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Years so my view of it.
- 42:36Speaker 2: IS i probably would go what he talked. About if
- 42:40Speaker 2: we're doing overall, Right Chase jefferson always go. Receiver receiver
- 42:45Speaker 2: is by far the safest spot right in the Dynasty.
- 42:47Speaker 2: League you want someone that's going to play for a
- 42:49Speaker 2: long time and their injury risk is. Mitigated and you,
- 42:53Speaker 2: know on the flip, side looking at this draft and
- 42:56Speaker 2: just this upcoming, SEASON i would just Love this is
- 42:59Speaker 2: a personal. Question is not a, Dude i'm not gonna
- 43:02Speaker 2: help anyone. Else Brian Thompson. Junior where do you put
- 43:04Speaker 2: him on this level wide? Receivers BECAUSE i got him
- 43:07Speaker 2: as a steal my dynasty. LEAGUE i love. HIM i
- 43:10Speaker 2: feel like it doesn't matter whose quarterback is gonna. Be
- 43:12Speaker 2: this kid's talent is just out of when we saw
- 43:14Speaker 2: it last. Year Mac jones came. In, yeah, still this
- 43:16Speaker 2: guy was putting up insane. Numbers what's your view on.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Him is he already a top five receiver in fantasy
- 43:22Speaker 2: football or is he more top ten back in top?
- 43:24Speaker 3: TEN i, MEAN i think he's got a chance to
- 43:26Speaker 3: be in that top, Five AND i actually think my
- 43:28Speaker 3: favorite calls in fantasy are NOT i, MEAN i would
- 43:32Speaker 3: have loved to have been all Over pokinakua last year
- 43:34Speaker 3: going into his rookie season and been, LIKE i think
- 43:37Speaker 3: the guy's got top ten, upside and then have him
- 43:39Speaker 3: be whatever it was wide receiver for or. Something BUT
- 43:42Speaker 3: i actually think the calls that are to me more
- 43:48Speaker 3: satisfying are the ones where it's there's a guy who's
- 43:51Speaker 3: really good, already we know, that, right but when you
- 43:55Speaker 3: build your list from, scratch he doesn't quite crack THE. Si,
- 44:00Speaker 3: Right he's the really awesome, player but not quite in
- 44:04Speaker 3: that same, cut because those are the more likely, jumps, Right,
- 44:06Speaker 3: like that's much more likely than some fifth round wide
- 44:09Speaker 3: receiver becoming a top five play again this. Season SO
- 44:13Speaker 3: i admit that this time of the YEAR i focus
- 44:17Speaker 3: much more of my draft rankings than my fantasy. Rankings
- 44:20Speaker 3: BUT i would imagine off tough that the first three
- 44:24Speaker 3: receivers and some first four receivers in some order are
- 44:26Speaker 3: going to Be Jamar, Chase, Justin, JEFFERSON. C. D, lamb
- 44:29Speaker 3: And Aman Ross Saint, brown and THEN i would say
- 44:32Speaker 3: that fifth is open Between. Pooka probably pook would be.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Five then it would be some sort of combination Of
- 44:40Speaker 3: Brian Thomas. JUNIOR i PROBABLY Aj brown will be in that.
- 44:45Speaker 3: CONVERSATION i, mean that's the kind of tier that we're talking,
- 44:48Speaker 3: About like IT'S Aj, Brown Brian Thomas. Jr i'm sure
- 44:52Speaker 3: forgetting A Malik neighbors of, course like a few others
- 44:54Speaker 3: in that same. Category BUT btj is, awesome and you,
- 44:58Speaker 3: know he really did show that quarterback quarterback agnostic value
- 45:02Speaker 3: That i'm not saying it's the fault of receivers when
- 45:07Speaker 3: they can't overcome poor quarterback, play but, man is it
- 45:10Speaker 3: a comforting feeling when you see them ball with you,
- 45:12Speaker 3: know sub standard at best quarterback play for much of the.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Year football is the fucking.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Best amend better.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Myself oh my, GOD i just love the. Best like
- 45:23Speaker 1: thinking About Brian thomas and the plays he was making last.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Year he was A he was a, miracle he really.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Was AND i mean the only good thing about that
- 45:33Speaker 3: offense Once Trevor lawrence went down Was Brian. Thomas YOU i,
- 45:35Speaker 3: mean they were a mess across the board, basically and
- 45:38Speaker 3: you know that's a team that has some optimism right.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Now they got to nail this. Draft but the only
- 45:45Speaker 3: THING i can count on For jacksonville going forward Is
- 45:47Speaker 3: Brian Thomas junior is the.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Man and gives him love to our Guy Chris raybond
- 45:51Speaker 2: who loved him last year and gave out another. GUY
- 45:54Speaker 2: i want to talk About Buck Irving and you, know
- 45:57Speaker 2: are we in a new age here field of running
- 45:59Speaker 2: back WHERE i was someone who's made a lot of
- 46:02Speaker 2: money doing season long best ball leagues WHERE i would
- 46:05Speaker 2: take a running back around one or two and then
- 46:07Speaker 2: not take another running back until round twelve or, thirteen,
- 46:10Speaker 2: right kind of basically fade running, backs take the. Backups
- 46:13Speaker 2: guys always get. Hurt last, year no one got hurt.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Hurt studs played out and their value shifted. Tremendously where
- 46:21Speaker 2: are we in a year now where we're gonna have
- 46:22Speaker 2: five six guys running backs in the first round once,
- 46:25Speaker 2: again like it's two thousand and, Eight like what's are?
- 46:27Speaker 3: Happening we? Are and by the, way before people get, mad,
- 46:30Speaker 3: yes we Know christian McCaffrey missed all of last year, basically,
- 46:33Speaker 3: Right so other than, him, though when you think about
- 46:35Speaker 3: the top Dog, Saque Derek henry And Jamior gibbs And James,
- 46:38Speaker 3: connor on on on and, on the guys who were
- 46:40Speaker 3: like in the top ten by the end of the,
- 46:41Speaker 3: season they played all. Year i'm missing, others of, course
- 46:44Speaker 3: but you get the. POINT i think, SO i really
- 46:47Speaker 3: do think. So LIKE i think that people are gonna
- 46:49Speaker 3: say you just have to have them because they show
- 46:51Speaker 3: there in This we talked about recency bias earlier in
- 46:55Speaker 3: the idea of the combine and how it influences draft.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Sock but, YES i believe we're gonna see a very
- 47:00Speaker 3: running back heavy start next, year especially because one factor
- 47:04Speaker 3: we probably don't have him play next year is Like
- 47:08Speaker 3: Travis kelce being like a top five. Pick, Right it's
- 47:11Speaker 3: gonna be Brought bowers but a little bit lower than.
- 47:13Speaker 3: That and you might make the case, that like there
- 47:16Speaker 3: is After, brock there are more quality. Options you, know
- 47:20Speaker 3: kill was right there as well on the points per game,
- 47:22Speaker 3: basis but there just have been. More we'll see probably
- 47:25Speaker 3: more quarterback fades this year, Too Like lamar was great last,
- 47:29Speaker 3: Year Josh allen was great last. Year Jayden daniels was,
- 47:31Speaker 3: Great Jalen hurst was. Great but you may say to, yourself,
- 47:33Speaker 3: like we don't have the one supernova that quarterback that
- 47:36Speaker 3: you have to draft him, early and that's the edge you.
- 47:40Speaker 3: GAIN i think the edge you're going to gain in
- 47:42Speaker 3: people's minds going into the season is you either have
- 47:45Speaker 3: running back depth or you. Don't and next thing you,
- 47:48Speaker 3: know It's week two of the playoffs and you're starting
