- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 3: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:10Speaker 3: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to eighty. He was
- 0:14Speaker 3: bo wow that Prime Time maybe had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 3: Betty Rubbell.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 2: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 3: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 3: the game.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You're listening just to Godsend Company.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We are just hours away from the biggest game at
- 0:34Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden in the history of games played at
- 0:37Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden. It is Nicks, it is Spurs, it
- 0:40Speaker 2: is Game three of the NBA Finals and the deed
- 0:44Speaker 2: of Nick Film School. God, what a title that is
- 0:47Speaker 2: the dean of Knick's Film School. Jonathan Macree is with us. Macrey,
- 0:52Speaker 2: what a title?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Man?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I am jealous. I want your title? I was ask
- 0:55Speaker 2: a Taylor before we started. Are you jealous? Do you
- 0:58Speaker 2: want to be the dean of Knicks Film School? He
- 1:00Speaker 2: said no. I called him a liar. I will tell
- 1:02Speaker 2: you I'm insanely jealous of that title.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Do you believe Taylor when he says no, he doesn't
- 1:07Speaker 1: want anything to do with it.
- 1:09Speaker 4: No, I believe him. Listen.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Coming the title of dean comes with many responsibilities, many
- 1:16Speaker 5: of which are not glamorous. So you know, I'm happy
- 1:21Speaker 5: to I'm happy to do it. Someone's got to do
- 1:22Speaker 5: the job, so might as well be me. But no,
- 1:25Speaker 5: this is this is not for the for the faint
- 1:27Speaker 5: of heart.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Find them wherever you get your podcast on YouTube or
- 1:31Speaker 2: sub stack.
- 1:32Speaker 1: What's the worst part of your job.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Dealing with losses?
- 1:36Speaker 5: Because as much as I may be the dean of
- 1:38Speaker 5: Knicks Film School, I'm a Knicks fan first and foremost.
- 1:42Speaker 5: As I've proven many times over the years, including this one, losses,
- 1:46Speaker 5: tough losses are still brutal for me. You know, I'm
- 1:48Speaker 5: still at that, you know, the the thirteen year old
- 1:51Speaker 5: kid who like they you know, think back to like
- 1:54Speaker 5: Game one against the Pacers last year, horrendous loss. I'm
- 1:56Speaker 5: feeling that for days, you know. So that part never changes.
- 2:01Speaker 5: But talking about the next that part's fun.
- 2:03Speaker 4: That's easy.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Maker, You've been doing Knicks Film School now for almost
- 2:08Speaker 6: eight years. You've been a Knicks fan your entire life.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Between now and the last time the Knicks were in
- 2:13Speaker 6: the finals in nineteen ninety nine. What's the furthest away
- 2:16Speaker 6: from this feeling you've ever had?
- 2:18Speaker 5: That's a good one, the furthest away. Yes, that's a
- 2:21Speaker 5: great question. I will say it's gonna be a little
- 2:26Speaker 5: bit of a weird answer, and it's gonna come probably
- 2:28Speaker 5: out of left field.
- 2:29Speaker 1: CJ. Mccolly.
- 2:33Speaker 5: No, because, like, look, I've been really hard on this
- 2:36Speaker 5: team the last couple of years, harder than most fans,
- 2:38Speaker 5: and some fans have certainly let me know about that repeatedly.
- 2:42Speaker 4: But no, this team is good, They're they're well wrong.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Leon Rose has.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Done a fantastic job, you know, Jaylen Bruns and so
- 2:48Speaker 5: on and so forth. No, but like you know, I
- 2:50Speaker 5: think some fans might point to like some terrible Asiah
- 2:53Speaker 5: Thomas trade or or maybe you know something Phil Jackson
- 2:58Speaker 5: did or when kd you know, pick the nets For me,
- 3:03Speaker 5: it was when stories first started to emerge that Christops
- 3:08Speaker 5: porzingis who, if you remember at the time, was like
- 3:11Speaker 5: the prince that was promised before we got Jaylen Brunson.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Uh started the story started to emerge.
- 3:16Speaker 5: That like oh he thinks this organization is a joke
- 3:21Speaker 5: and It's.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Like, wait a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I had to sift.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Through how many years of you know what to get
- 3:28Speaker 5: this guy, and he showed all this promise and now
- 3:31Speaker 5: he wants out and he's been here for what two years?
- 3:34Speaker 5: And so when that stuff started to emerge, I was like,
- 3:37Speaker 5: you know, it's a phrase a buddy of mine, Bernard,
- 3:39Speaker 5: you know, first kind of introduced to our Knicks group
- 3:43Speaker 5: text the rot is in the walls. And I was
- 3:45Speaker 5: just convinced that, like, there would be nothing that would
- 3:48Speaker 5: ever happen, nothing that ever could happen to this franchise
- 3:51Speaker 5: that would lead to sustainable winning.
- 3:53Speaker 4: That was probably the lowest.
- 3:54Speaker 2: All right, let's fast forward to better times. Because we
- 3:57Speaker 2: are hours away from from a big Knicks game.
- 3:59Speaker 1: What are your feelings? What are your emotions?
- 4:02Speaker 2: You are the dean of Knicks Film School, but you're
- 4:04Speaker 2: also the dean of Nick fans, So what are your
- 4:06Speaker 2: feelings here leading up to a big game three at
- 4:10Speaker 2: the Mecca tonight?
- 4:11Speaker 1: What do you going through right now?
- 4:13Speaker 5: Well, I'll correct you because I don't know that I
- 4:15Speaker 5: speak for a lot of Knick fans.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And one thing that's kind of been well, the thing.
- 4:19Speaker 5: That's been tough to deal with throughout this whole playoff run.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Is you had a lot of fans that have been
- 4:26Speaker 5: super confident in this team, like basically ever since it
- 4:29Speaker 5: was assembled, certainly throughout the course of the year, and
- 4:33Speaker 5: like once they started rolling, They're like, Oh, We're gonna
- 4:36Speaker 5: win the championship. And I'm the fan that is always
- 4:39Speaker 5: waiting for the bad thing to happen.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Call my guard is always up. I'm always cautious.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So, like, you know, they're up two oh, having won
- 4:48Speaker 5: two road games in the finals, the first two World
- 4:52Speaker 5: games in the final, something only Michael Jordan and the
- 4:53Speaker 5: Keim Elijah Wan has ever done right. And I'm sitting
- 4:56Speaker 5: here and be like, don't lose this game. Don't let
- 4:59Speaker 5: this first back in that series. I think they'll win.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Like they're they're playing great. I think that.
- 5:03Speaker 5: I think they're the better team. But I'm not sitting
- 5:05Speaker 5: here being like the series is over, like sweep the
- 5:08Speaker 5: whole thing, Like it's one game at a time. I
- 5:10Speaker 5: gotta see him go out there and play good again.
- 5:13Speaker 6: Macrack, Who do you think has more pressure on them
- 5:15Speaker 6: tonight in Game three? The Knicks or the Spurs?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Wow, I mean the Spurs. I mean, it's ridiculous. They
- 5:20Speaker 2: can't go down oh three, they can't.
- 5:23Speaker 5: So the obvious answer is the Spurs, right and yet
- 5:28Speaker 5: my favorite two words, uh and yet barring something crazy,
- 5:32Speaker 5: and look, the NBA is where crazy stuff happens.
- 5:35Speaker 4: This Spurs team is going to be here for the
- 5:38Speaker 4: next decade.
- 5:39Speaker 5: I know, second Apron and all that crap, But like
- 5:42Speaker 5: they they'd be crazy to break up this this core,
- 5:45Speaker 5: and specifically Wenby and Harper, who I've I mean, I've
- 5:47Speaker 5: compared them to Shack and Colby, like in terms of
- 5:50Speaker 5: what they could potentially become. So like they and I
- 5:55Speaker 5: think they've already kind of realized like, oh, whoops, we
- 5:59Speaker 5: thought we won the title in the last round, which
- 6:01Speaker 5: I think maybe is partially why they're down to h
- 6:03Speaker 5: right now, to you know, putting aside, I think the
- 6:06Speaker 5: Knicks have played good ball.
- 6:07Speaker 4: So like, yeah, the pressure's on the Spurs.
- 6:10Speaker 5: But like I think even subconsciously, I think they know
- 6:13Speaker 5: they'll be back, you know, and they'll probably be back
- 6:16Speaker 5: multiple times. And I think the Knicks, a team full
- 6:18Speaker 5: of veterans, is smart enough to like look around the league,
- 6:21Speaker 5: look at the fact that it's eight forget eight different champions.
- 6:24Speaker 5: A champion hasn't gone back to the finals in since
- 6:26Speaker 5: the Wars in twenty seventeen, and that was you know.
- 6:29Speaker 4: KD and Step. So I think that I'll be very
- 6:32Speaker 4: curious how the Knicks come out tonight. I think they're
- 6:33Speaker 4: going to be feeling it. I really do.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Uh does the entire city, I mean everybody, Oh, Karl
- 6:39Speaker 2: Anthony towns an apology because I feel like we do.
- 6:42Speaker 5: I mean, with all due respect to your apology, my
- 6:48Speaker 5: apology is bigger.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Okay, yes, no, Like I was.
- 6:54Speaker 5: So, I had Mike, you know, my on Knicks phone
- 6:56Speaker 5: school podcast several years ago, and he said, gave me
- 6:59Speaker 5: a piece of advice, was like, never never say anything
- 7:03Speaker 5: about a player that you wouldn't say to a player
- 7:05Speaker 5: in person. And he said that to me, and I
- 7:07Speaker 5: always tried to follow that, and boy have I not?
- 7:11Speaker 4: Was I not able to follow? What was Karl Anthony taks.
- 7:14Speaker 5: And like there was like, I mean the fourth game
- 7:16Speaker 5: of the year they lost the Bucks. Yeah, and like
- 7:20Speaker 5: like Kyle Kuzma's physicality, which by the word, by the way,
- 7:23Speaker 5: two words that don't go together.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Kyle Kuzman physicality.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Sure, Kyle Kuzma's physicality was like getting to him and
- 7:28Speaker 5: he was throwing up this nonsense. And I went on
- 7:31Speaker 5: my post game, I'm like, we've been dealing with this,
- 7:34Speaker 5: We like NBA fans, have been dealing with this for
- 7:36Speaker 5: ten years. At some point, it's not about how do
- 7:38Speaker 5: you fully actualize Karl Anthony Towns. It's about Karl Anton
- 7:41Speaker 5: Towns like stepping up to the plate and being the
- 7:43Speaker 5: guy that he was supposed to be when they when
- 7:45Speaker 5: he got drafted eleven years ago.
- 7:46Speaker 4: And that was just one example. I just did not
- 7:49Speaker 4: think he had this in him.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Like we always saw the skills, like multiple sixty point games,
- 7:54Speaker 5: the whole thing, but the defense, the lack of silly
- 7:57Speaker 5: fouls giving his team exactly what they need on both
- 8:02Speaker 5: ends of the floor. I can't I can't remember a
- 8:07Speaker 5: player in all my years watching forget basketball, watching sports
- 8:12Speaker 5: that has like at this point in their career.
- 8:15Speaker 4: It's almost like the.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Light bulb went off, right, and that's you know, that's
- 8:18Speaker 5: to me what we're seeing and MACA.
- 8:20Speaker 6: To be fair, this team felt like they had major
- 8:23Speaker 6: question marks as recently as like a few months ago.
- 8:26Speaker 6: That's why I think there's there's almost a disbelief to
- 8:30Speaker 6: this historic run that the Knicks run where you had
- 8:32Speaker 6: question marks about Cat, you had question marks about mckel
- 8:35Speaker 6: bridges to a certain extent, and what they gave up,
- 8:39Speaker 6: and now they're all of a sudden, like you mentioned,
- 8:42Speaker 6: a switch flipped and they're on one of the best
- 8:44Speaker 6: runs we've ever seen from a basketball team.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I like, if you would have watched this team.
- 8:51Speaker 5: At certain games during the after or during and talked
- 8:54Speaker 5: about them after certain games during the year, you would
- 8:56Speaker 5: have bet anything this isn't a contending team, like you
- 9:00Speaker 5: know a contending team when you see it.
- 9:04Speaker 4: At the same time.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Like, again, I don't always follow my own advice, but
- 9:09Speaker 5: something I like to say is that development isn't always linear.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Which is we say that about like young prospects. I
- 9:14Speaker 5: think it's the same goes for a team as well.
- 9:16Speaker 5: So like new coach asked Karl Anton Towns to embody
- 9:19Speaker 5: a new role on offense, Jalen Brunton to a certain extent,
- 9:22Speaker 5: everybody like deepening the bench, the whole thing. And so
- 9:25Speaker 5: I think, you know, we all told ourselves as Nick
- 9:29Speaker 5: fans before the year, like, Okay, this is going to
- 9:31Speaker 5: be a roller coaster ride, Like it's not. It's not
- 9:34Speaker 5: going to be like go out and win every game
- 9:35Speaker 5: at all all costs, like it was under TIBs. We
- 9:38Speaker 5: should be prepared for a bumpy ride. And yet they actually.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Won one more right, one more game or two more games, whatever,
- 9:45Speaker 4: it was more more.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Games than last year. And at the same time, it's
- 9:49Speaker 5: still like, as you were watching.
- 9:50Speaker 4: It, you're like, nah, they're you know, they're they're not
- 9:53Speaker 4: we it's it's it's fools gold.
- 9:55Speaker 5: So yeah, this was not the same team, and like
- 9:58Speaker 5: credit to them because they've kind of revamped their offense
- 10:01Speaker 5: in the playoffs, going through Kat and the whole thing,
- 10:04Speaker 5: and they're just like locked in, like you know when
- 10:06Speaker 5: you see a team just like you see. We said
- 10:08Speaker 5: that about them during the regular season, we know when
- 10:10Speaker 5: we don't see it.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Now we know when we see it. And the Knicks
- 10:13Speaker 4: were playing like it.
- 10:14Speaker 1: How long have you been a Knicks fan?
- 10:17Speaker 5: Ninety three ninety four was my first year, so, like
- 10:19Speaker 5: I have vague memories in ninety two ninety three that
- 10:22Speaker 5: ended with the with the Charles Smith unfortunate incident under
- 10:25Speaker 5: the basket there, right, But ninety three ninety four was
- 10:29Speaker 5: my first year as a real fan, and obviously it
- 10:32Speaker 5: went to Game seven of the finals. It was the
- 10:34Speaker 5: first year I was ever really a fan of any
- 10:36Speaker 5: sports team. So they kept winning in the playoffs, and
- 10:40Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, this is great being a fan of
- 10:42Speaker 5: a basketball team.
- 10:43Speaker 4: This is super fun. Why doesn't everybody do this?
- 10:45Speaker 5: And then of course it ended with, you know, a
- 10:47Speaker 5: heartbreak that I did not think was possible.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Shout out to John Starks.
- 10:51Speaker 5: We love you, John, but you know, two for eighteen
- 10:53Speaker 5: will live rent free in my head until my dying.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Last breath, you know, and so like.
- 10:59Speaker 5: But it was weird because I came in in a
- 11:02Speaker 5: sense at like the high point since seventy three. But
- 11:06Speaker 5: I also came in right when, like, you know, you
- 11:09Speaker 5: recite chapter and verse every heartbreak, you know, eight points
- 11:12Speaker 5: and eight point nine seconds, you know, the finger roll,
- 11:15Speaker 5: the suspensions, even stuff that doesn't get talked about that
- 11:18Speaker 5: much anymore, Like the series they won against the Pacers
- 11:20Speaker 5: in ninety four to make the finals. You know, Reggie
- 11:23Speaker 5: Miller scores twenty five points in the fourth quarter at
- 11:25Speaker 5: Game five of that series, the Pacers come back overcome
- 11:27Speaker 5: a fifteen point differcent to win. I remember, these things
- 11:30Speaker 5: are seared in my brain, and I thought and I
- 11:33Speaker 5: thought that they and maybe they always will be right.
- 11:35Speaker 5: But that's I think everybody's different. For me, why this
- 11:40Speaker 5: run like is taking on the meaning of like it's
- 11:44Speaker 5: taking on just so much meaning is because, like I
- 11:46Speaker 5: just I don't want to have to live with all
- 11:48Speaker 5: of that baggage for the rest of my life.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Macuri also on this run does it feel better too?
- 11:54Speaker 6: Because I was thinking about it from my perspective where
- 11:58Speaker 6: this team is doing it with a lot of people
- 12:00Speaker 6: that we're overlooked, the Jalen Brunson's, the Josh Hartz who's
- 12:03Speaker 6: a throwing in these trades. Where this run feels better
- 12:07Speaker 6: than if Lebron came to the Knicks and saved the Knicks,
- 12:09Speaker 6: or or KD came in and try to save the Knicks.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yes, it does.
- 12:15Speaker 5: I will just I'm gonna be fully transparent. If the
- 12:18Speaker 5: Knicks ended up winning a championship in an alternate history
- 12:20Speaker 5: where Lebron came or KD, like, I would have enjoyed
- 12:24Speaker 5: the hell out of it. Like, I wouldn't have felt
- 12:25Speaker 5: bad about it. I wouldn't apologize to anywhere very nice,
- 12:28Speaker 5: I mean seriously, but you know, like for me, I
- 12:34Speaker 5: think one of my favorite things about Knicks film school
- 12:39Speaker 5: is when not only I get to like the community
- 12:43Speaker 5: of Knicks fans, but when you feel like fans have
- 12:47Speaker 5: a real connection with the team in a way that
- 12:50Speaker 5: goes beyond just a rooting interest. Sure, and like, I
- 12:53Speaker 5: don't know to talk to you guys about like the
- 12:55Speaker 5: mentality of your average New.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Yorker, Like we are all about you know.
- 13:00Speaker 5: But Boston has the reputation of like, oh, you think
- 13:02Speaker 5: you're better than me.
- 13:03Speaker 4: New York isn't that.
- 13:04Speaker 5: But it's like we are convinced that we will outwork anyone.
- 13:08Speaker 4: That is our calling card. If you're if you have
- 13:11Speaker 4: ever worked in the.
- 13:12Speaker 5: City, it's almost like, give me more impediments to get
- 13:15Speaker 5: around or get over or figure out my way past, and.
- 13:18Speaker 4: That's going to motivate me that much more.
- 13:20Speaker 5: And if you look to a man, everybody on this team,
- 13:23Speaker 5: even coll antone town's first pick in the draft, look
- 13:25Speaker 5: at all he's had to deal with in terms of
- 13:27Speaker 5: criticism of the last.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Decade of his career.
- 13:30Speaker 5: You know, to say nothing in macal Bridge is getting
- 13:32Speaker 5: traded by his hometown team on draft night, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 5: Josh Hart following the last pick of the first round,
- 13:37Speaker 5: and then you know, multiple teams not believing in him,
- 13:40Speaker 5: like the Raptors not really wanted to pay Ojan Andob
- 13:43Speaker 5: like all the way on down the line, all these
- 13:45Speaker 5: guys like Landry Shammitt.
- 13:46Speaker 4: You mentioned Landry Shammitt.
- 13:48Speaker 5: Non guaranteed contract, Like, can you write this that this
- 13:51Speaker 5: guy's doing this in the NBA Finals.
- 13:53Speaker 4: It is not even a guaranteed deal, training camp deal.
- 13:55Speaker 4: It's crazy. You really can't rate it.
- 13:57Speaker 2: We have a game for you called One Table. We're
- 13:59Speaker 2: gonna play some sound from your show as well. Taylor,
- 14:02Speaker 2: Go ahead. Taylor has a question. First, go He's very excited.
- 14:04Speaker 2: This has changed his life.
- 14:05Speaker 6: I mean it has, Yes, So I was gonna I
- 14:08Speaker 6: was gonna set up the sound.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I love.
- 14:11Speaker 6: If I'm not watching the game on TV, or I
- 14:14Speaker 6: need a second screen experience, I watch Knick's film School
- 14:17Speaker 6: The watch alongs STU when Jalen Brunson hits a shot
- 14:21Speaker 6: to go up six in Game one, Yes, nobody encapsulated
- 14:25Speaker 6: what Nick fans felt better than Macery.
- 14:28Speaker 2: So all I want from a watch along is not
- 14:30Speaker 2: Pat McAfee. But what I do want is I want
- 14:33Speaker 2: a Nick fan watching the game the way I'm watching
- 14:35Speaker 2: the game at home and you're telling me he delivers
- 14:38Speaker 2: on this.
- 14:38Speaker 1: All right, Let's play the sound bruntson on the drive.
- 14:42Speaker 7: Spence underneath puts it up, puts it up.
- 14:47Speaker 4: None ahead.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That's how you do it. One more time. I want
- 14:51Speaker 2: to get that sound one more time. That got me
- 14:52Speaker 2: fired up for the game to the first thing on the.
- 14:55Speaker 7: Drive, Spence underneath puts it up, puts it up.
- 15:03Speaker 2: What was the sound coming out of your mouth when
- 15:05Speaker 2: Wemby had that wide open elbow jumper to win the game.
- 15:09Speaker 5: I mean, no, sounds good because because I was you know,
- 15:14Speaker 5: I was convinced it was going in. I said it
- 15:16Speaker 5: after the game on the postgame show. I'm like, I've
- 15:19Speaker 5: been a Nick fan for thirty three years. Every every
- 15:22Speaker 5: one of those shots against us, right, goes in, goes in.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Yes, you know yeah, And now we did have the
- 15:28Speaker 4: on Houston shot.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I mean, come on, like, look, the Knicks have had
- 15:33Speaker 5: great shots in their history.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong.
- 15:35Speaker 5: I'm mane Houston shot the LJ shot like we've had
- 15:37Speaker 5: you know, Brunton, and you know, you want to go
- 15:39Speaker 5: back to like Game six against Detroit last year.
- 15:41Speaker 4: That was probably the biggest shot of history up to
- 15:42Speaker 4: that point.
- 15:43Speaker 5: But the shot against us, you know, it always goes in,
- 15:47Speaker 5: and that one didn't.
- 15:48Speaker 4: And uh, you know, credit to credit to Mitch was
- 15:51Speaker 4: some good defense. I guess.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you're proud of yourself, though when you hear that soundback,
- 15:54Speaker 2: are you proud? Embarrassed? What's going on there? Because I don't.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Yeah, as listeners though, And I think this is part
- 16:02Speaker 5: of why Knicks Film School resonates with people.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Not only you know, we do great coverage.
- 16:06Speaker 5: When I say we, I mean the people I'm lucky
- 16:08Speaker 5: enough to work with, great analysis, the whole thing. But
- 16:11Speaker 5: people feel like they know me, they know all of us,
- 16:13Speaker 5: because they do. I don't hide anything, you know, even
- 16:18Speaker 5: including my frustrations and especially my frustrations with this team.
- 16:21Speaker 5: So yeah, like the notion that I would like tamper
- 16:25Speaker 5: it down or try to tamper it down like I
- 16:28Speaker 5: was in you know, it's crazy to say this now
- 16:30Speaker 5: because the teams are the finals, but I was in
- 16:33Speaker 5: tears after they beat Boston last year, you know, after
- 16:36Speaker 5: Game six, just to be back in the Eastern Conference
- 16:39Speaker 5: Finals for what was at that time the first time
- 16:41Speaker 5: in twenty six years.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Yeah or twenty five years, right, MACREI when I told
- 16:45Speaker 6: these guys that Jalen Brunson has changed my life.
- 16:49Speaker 4: They laughed me out of the room.
- 16:50Speaker 1: We did.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Now I feel like right now I'm kind of having
- 16:53Speaker 6: the last laugh. Jalen Brunton has changed your life.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Well, I mean again, talk about transparency. I do Knicks
- 17:03Speaker 5: Film School for a living now. Like up until a
- 17:05Speaker 5: year ago, I was a New York City public school teacher.
- 17:07Speaker 5: This was a it was a full time job, but
- 17:09Speaker 5: it was ostensively a side gig, you know. I did
- 17:11Speaker 5: it nights, weekends and anytime I could beg.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Bar or Steel Like I don't.
- 17:17Speaker 5: I'm not going to try to sit here and pretend
- 17:19Speaker 5: like this all happens for me for Knicks Film School.
- 17:22Speaker 5: If Jalen Brunson doesn't come to the Knicks like, the
- 17:24Speaker 5: Knicks would still be probably.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Pretty good like they were there.
- 17:27Speaker 5: We shout out to the we hear season, Julius Randall,
- 17:29Speaker 5: the whole thing, but like Jalen Brunson put the Knicks
- 17:33Speaker 5: back on the map and just as a fan, like
- 17:37Speaker 5: again to go back to like comparing it to all
- 17:39Speaker 5: those years when you were a fan, it was always
- 17:42Speaker 5: the other team that had that guy, even when we
- 17:45Speaker 5: had Mellow and mellow is damn good and like I
- 17:47Speaker 5: probably didn't appreciate enough at the time, Like Melo was
- 17:50Speaker 5: really great. He wasn't Lebron James and he wasn't Kevin Durant. Now, look,
- 17:55Speaker 5: is Jalen Brunson the best player in the league. No,
- 17:57Speaker 5: But in the last five minutes of a close game,
- 18:00Speaker 5: go find me someone that's better playing today.
- 18:02Speaker 2: You can't because of what you guys were discussing earlier.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's not Lebron, it's not you know, it's not one
- 18:07Speaker 2: of these big superstars.
- 18:09Speaker 1: It's Jalen Brunton.
- 18:10Speaker 2: They become become a blue collar team, and it's funny
- 18:14Speaker 2: because the experience of this is nationally they become some
- 18:18Speaker 2: sort of lovable underdog and all of a sudden, everyone's
- 18:20Speaker 2: jumping on the bandwagon and I'm saying, get the hell off.
- 18:23Speaker 1: How do you feel about that?
- 18:25Speaker 8: Oh?
- 18:25Speaker 5: I don't care about So this is like do you
- 18:28Speaker 5: how much do you care about the discourse?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Right?
- 18:31Speaker 2: And I'm eddy, yeah, like Peter Scheger, get the hell
- 18:35Speaker 2: out of here, you know, I mean, Jesus, I don't look.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Maybe it's because like I'm now in the business of
- 18:45Speaker 5: like more subscribers and more you know listens is like
- 18:49Speaker 5: good for us.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Like I'm certainly not going.
- 18:50Speaker 5: To be like, no, you can't listen to my podcast,
- 18:52Speaker 5: go away, we don't watch you.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Look.
- 18:57Speaker 4: I I'll say this. I there have been.
- 19:03Speaker 5: People who have been kind enough to reach out over
- 19:06Speaker 5: the last few weeks, in particular talking about like, oh,
- 19:09Speaker 5: you know, I've been with you since like twenty eighteen,
- 19:13Speaker 5: you know, which is roughly when I started doing this,
- 19:15Speaker 5: since like I was doing the early versions of post games,
- 19:19Speaker 5: and I'd be like talking about, like, oh, Mitchell Robinson,
- 19:22Speaker 5: he covered that pick and roll really nice today.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:25Speaker 4: The other forty seven minutes and fifty seconds of the
- 19:28Speaker 4: game sucked, but we had that one play, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 4: in the midst of whatever. That was the seventeen win season.
- 19:34Speaker 5: And so when I get like, those are the comments
- 19:36Speaker 5: that mean the most to me. And there's so many
- 19:38Speaker 5: nick fans out there like that, like you know, who
- 19:40Speaker 5: have been here the whole time, Like, yeah, that's more
- 19:43Speaker 5: meaningful for sure. But like I'm not gonna sit here
- 19:45Speaker 5: and be like, no, you can't. You can't get in
- 19:47Speaker 5: on this like it, because you know what, if you've
- 19:50Speaker 5: been here for the long haul, that's your reward. You
- 19:53Speaker 5: know what you get that that's your prize. And if
- 19:56Speaker 5: if you're someone that has come in recently, I just
- 19:58Speaker 5: can't you know, I'm not in their shoes, so I
- 20:01Speaker 5: can't say this definitively, but I doubt that it's the
- 20:04Speaker 5: same or anywhere close to the same.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Macri how I'm viewing it as bandwagon fans mean you're
- 20:10Speaker 6: doing something right. And if the Knicks win a title,
- 20:13Speaker 6: I won't care if you weren't there for the Alonzo
- 20:15Speaker 6: Trier days. I'm gonna be too busy celebrating that damn title.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Man, Alonzo.
- 20:21Speaker 5: One of my first talk about how far Knicks Film
- 20:23Speaker 5: Schools come. I had Alonzo Trier's mom on the Knicks
- 20:26Speaker 5: Film School podcast What back in the day, back when
- 20:29Speaker 5: I was trying to get literally anyone who had anything to.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Do yes with the Knicks, right, you know.
- 20:36Speaker 5: And she she was lovely, by the way, but like, yeah, no,
- 20:41Speaker 5: and let's be prepared if they win this. And I say,
- 20:44Speaker 5: if we're sitting here and we're, you know, seven and
- 20:47Speaker 5: a half hours from Game three, like series is not
- 20:49Speaker 5: over yet, if they win this, you know, I saw
- 20:51Speaker 5: someone say this on Twitter the O day. I forget who
- 20:53Speaker 5: it was, But like, yeah, everyone's gonna be in love
- 20:55Speaker 5: with the Knicks for a while and then the Knicks
- 20:56Speaker 5: are going to just be absolutely hated, you know, next season.
- 20:59Speaker 5: So I'm ready for that too.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Before we get to one table here, does Stephen A.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Smith deserve the credit he wants for the nixt being
- 21:05Speaker 2: in the NBA Finals?
- 21:07Speaker 7: God?
- 21:08Speaker 5: What I have to I have to choose my words
- 21:12Speaker 5: carefully when it comes to Stephen A.
- 21:13Speaker 4: I admire Stephen A.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Smith, who has turned himself from you know, a blue
- 21:18Speaker 5: collar journalist into the highest paid man in media.
- 21:23Speaker 4: I have never cared about one word that Steven A.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Smith has said.
- 21:26Speaker 5: He is less relevant to me than a mouse fart
- 21:31Speaker 5: in the wind.
- 21:32Speaker 4: And I mean that completely.
- 21:33Speaker 5: And to everybody who watches him and loves him and
- 21:35Speaker 5: cares about what he says every day. God bless and again,
- 21:38Speaker 5: God bless him. He's earned it, because if you resonate
- 21:40Speaker 5: with people, you resonate with people.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I know. I do not give him any credit.
- 21:45Speaker 1: If I told you that I can get Stephen A.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Smith to appear in your program tomorrow, would you want him?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Oh?
- 21:51Speaker 5: Absolutely yeah, But but give me give me time to
- 21:56Speaker 5: get some sponsorships lined.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Up first, shit, oh man, so listen, Macary, I'm proud
- 22:02Speaker 2: of you. That's the exact answer.
- 22:04Speaker 1: You needed to give me. So, and you wouldn't say
- 22:07Speaker 1: any of this to his face, right, You'd be like,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I love you.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Listen.
- 22:11Speaker 5: I would ask him to explain to me why true
- 22:17Speaker 5: Diehard Nick fans should care about his opinions, and I
- 22:20Speaker 5: would be genuinely curious. But I might phrase it a little differently,
- 22:23Speaker 5: but I would want to know that, Yes, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 5: I would want to know that.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Okay, that interview would not last very long.
- 22:29Speaker 4: No, that's okay, but you're also never getting that interview.
- 22:32Speaker 2: So yes, well, we'll see what we can do. Are
- 22:34Speaker 2: you going to the game tonight? Before we get to
- 22:36Speaker 2: one table, you go into the game?
- 22:37Speaker 4: No, no, I don't.
- 22:39Speaker 5: I never go to games, just because we do the
- 22:41Speaker 5: live watch along and then I go right into the
- 22:43Speaker 5: post game. The last game, I think the last game
- 22:46Speaker 5: that I've been to was actually the Dante shot game.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Game two against the Sixers and the twenty four playoffs.
- 22:53Speaker 2: All right, let's get to uh, well, let's get people
- 22:56Speaker 2: a sample of what it is they'll be listening to,
- 22:58Speaker 2: if indeed they choose to listen to you as they're
- 23:00Speaker 2: watching the game tonight, I'll play the clip from a
- 23:02Speaker 2: show one more time again on the brunt and shot.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It's fantastic, brunts.
- 23:06Speaker 7: Of I'm a drive Spence underneath puts it up.
- 23:13Speaker 2: You do that for every basket tonight, and I'm telling
- 23:16Speaker 2: you I'll be glued. Okay, I mean seriously.
- 23:19Speaker 4: It won't be for every basket though, but if it's
- 23:22Speaker 4: a close game late, okay, we'll get some of that.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I forget about it.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Let's get to one table. Give me the imaging. Go ahead, guys.
- 23:32Speaker 8: There's one table left at the hottest spot in town,
- 23:35Speaker 8: and everybody wants it. Who's getting it and who's getting
- 23:40Speaker 8: left outside Greatness gets seated.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Everyone else waits. This is one table, all right.
- 23:49Speaker 2: So you're in a restaurant in New York City. You're
- 23:52Speaker 2: the host of the restaurant. There is one table remaining
- 23:55Speaker 2: in your restaurant and in walks at the same exact time,
- 23:59Speaker 2: separate they're walking in at the same exact time, but
- 24:02Speaker 2: they have separate reservations or separate deals trying to get
- 24:05Speaker 2: into your restaurant. It is Josh Hart or John Starks
- 24:09Speaker 2: who gets the table.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Josh Harton didn't even blink.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Jesus correct, they haven't wont anything yet, but neither the
- 24:18Speaker 2: John starts.
- 24:19Speaker 5: I was about say, yeah, Focks and Josh hart have
- 24:21Speaker 5: both made it the same distance in the playoffs.
- 24:23Speaker 6: All right, gott Solly, So Jalen Brunson walks in, Patrick
- 24:29Speaker 6: Ewing walks in?
- 24:30Speaker 4: Who gets the table?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Wow?
- 24:32Speaker 3: Patrick Ewing over Jalen bruns Patrick Ewing.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Like if you tell a Knicks fan, like, just say
- 24:41Speaker 5: the word warrior, every Knicks fan who was brand in
- 24:44Speaker 5: the nighties, you can just picture Patrick Ewing's.
- 24:46Speaker 4: That's you know.
- 24:47Speaker 5: I think I think Jalen Brunston is at his I
- 24:50Speaker 5: think he's probably exceeded.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Youing in terms of how good he's playing. Like, I
- 24:53Speaker 4: don't know that you never played like to this level.
- 24:57Speaker 4: It's close. But yeah, no, I gotta give a de now,
- 25:00Speaker 4: Clyde Fraser walks in.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So it's Fraser or Patrick Ewing?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Clyde seniority, seniority.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Okay, Well, Jalen wins two more games, is it Jalen
- 25:10Speaker 2: over everyone?
- 25:11Speaker 4: I mean, if he wins.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Two more games, yes, you know what, only because Clyde
- 25:20Speaker 5: and Ewing have already had so many great tables in
- 25:24Speaker 5: New York City if it was my restaurant, Yes, Jalen.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Gets the reservation over, Okay, this is your restaurant.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Carl Anthony Towns walks in. Carmelo Anthony walks in. Who
- 25:34Speaker 2: gets the table?
- 25:37Speaker 4: Karl Anthony town Now.
- 25:39Speaker 5: He does, no, But but that's I also wasn't maybe
- 25:45Speaker 5: the biggest fellow guy in the world.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Right, okay, but you weren't the biggest Towns guy. Otherwise
- 25:49Speaker 2: you would have listened to Brain I mean Jesus.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I wasn't. But boys, he.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Won me over in a way that Mellow never did.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yes, all right, go ahead tell it.
- 26:00Speaker 4: Og Anenobie walks in. Alan Houston walks in wax table.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So the Anenobi's in the Houston's.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Yes, that's a really good one. That's the toughest one
- 26:13Speaker 4: for me so far, I will say, o j anob
- 26:16Speaker 4: all right, I think I didn't og.
- 26:20Speaker 5: He has He has embodied the selflessness that this team
- 26:25Speaker 5: needed to come together.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yes, yep, very well said, all right, final one for you,
- 26:30Speaker 2: Michale Bridges, Watrell Spretty, Well, both, that's a tough one.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I know, I mean Bridge Jesus, So.
- 26:39Speaker 4: We all do respect to Patrick Watrell was my favorite
- 26:42Speaker 4: Nick Crown up right, Yeah, but.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Michale's about to do something Ladrell never did.
- 26:46Speaker 4: So I mean, if it's if I'm giving away the table.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Like right this afternoon for lunch, yes, I think it's
- 26:55Speaker 5: still Latrell ask me in.
- 26:57Speaker 1: A week and I think, wait, so for lunch today.
- 27:00Speaker 2: You're not even happy with yourself for saying that if
- 27:03Speaker 2: he comes in for lunch today and what it on
- 27:05Speaker 2: thing it would be for the two of them to
- 27:07Speaker 2: come in to try to have lunch just moments hours
- 27:09Speaker 2: before Game three.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Of THEBA Bottoms.
- 27:12Speaker 2: You're giving it this free well, but if they win
- 27:15Speaker 2: tonight and the same two guys come walking in tomorrow morning,
- 27:18Speaker 2: you're giving it to Michale Bridges.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Right, I am nothing if not a fickle dec So, yes,
- 27:26Speaker 4: the B.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And Bridges stands for brunch. We appreciate this very very much. Man,
- 27:30Speaker 2: check him out the dean of Knicks Film School. Wherever
- 27:33Speaker 2: you get your podcast on YouTube or substack. That was
- 27:36Speaker 2: an abrupt ending to the restaurant right there, Jonathan Macree.
- 27:40Speaker 2: We appreciate your time, dude, and trot listen, try to
- 27:43Speaker 2: settle down, try to not get too emotional. Try to
- 27:45Speaker 2: enjoy the moment, enjoy the day. I know everyone's terrified
- 27:48Speaker 2: we're a bit too overconfident, but we are up too
- 27:51Speaker 2: ho headed back to the Mecca. So just try to
- 27:53Speaker 2: soak it all in and enjoy it, man, and just
- 27:55Speaker 2: be happy. You'll never have to teach again.
- 27:57Speaker 1: How about that?
- 27:59Speaker 4: Well, listen, I'm thankful for that every day. Don't be wrong,
- 28:02Speaker 4: but yes, I'm gonna I'm trying to soak.
- 28:04Speaker 5: It all in and I'm gonna try to occupy myself
- 28:08Speaker 5: with god knows what over the next What have we
- 28:10Speaker 5: got seven hours left?
- 28:11Speaker 4: So whish be luck with that.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I know the clock is moving so slowly today. All right, buddy,
- 28:14Speaker 2: we appreciate it. We'll talk to you soon. Good luck tonight,
- 28:17Speaker 2: and look forward to us speaking to you again down
- 28:19Speaker 2: the road here.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Appreciate you, guys, Thank you so much,
