- 0:09Hello and welcome. You're listening to Galaxy

- 0:17Brought to you by us 2 mums Just trying to parent responsibly
- 0:22while still mentally in 2005. I'm sham.
- 0:26And I'm Tay and coming up this week, we've got In the Wild
- 0:29where we're talking about Harry Judd casually running a marathon
- 0:32like it's a trip to Tesco's, and we're putting our emotional
- 0:35stability on the line with Busted Song Without You.
- 0:39Prepare yourselves as a sad one. We will not be OK by the end of
- 0:43it. Definitely not.
- 0:45And finally, slight change of scenery with this naughties lost
- 0:49song is taking us back to Lose Yourself.
- 0:54And Tay's slightly concerning Eminem era.
- 0:58It was a phase. It was a phase.
- 1:00Was it though? Was it a phase?
- 1:02Who can say? I'm not going to lie, I think
- 1:05sometimes I'm still in it a little bit.
- 1:06I still love me a bit of Eminem. But before we start all of that,
- 1:11we should probably mention that today's episode is also on
- 1:15TikTok Live. So if you like the idea of
- 1:18watching us record a podcast, make sure you tune in to our
- 1:21TikTok lives. You can ask questions, you can
- 1:23answer your this or that. You can give us your opinions on
- 1:26the song of the week. And we most definitely love to
- 1:29hear from you. So make sure you join us on
- 1:31TikTok next episode. OK, let's get started.
- 1:35How was your week? Shannon, are you OK?
- 1:36How are you doing? I'm not really sure.
- 1:39I'm not sure I'm doing good start this.
- 1:43This week's been pretty hectic to be honest.
- 1:47Hectic but also like not a lot going on at the same time.
- 1:50I just feel like I'm constantly chasing my tail all week.
- 1:54Like adjusting to being back to work after I swear to.
- 1:57I swear I'm not gloating they get 2 weeks off.
- 2:00I'm not gloating about the time off that teaching assistants
- 2:02get. However, I will say it takes me
- 2:05a while to like get back into the swing of things and I'm
- 2:08actually not OK. It's so difficult, isn't it?
- 2:11It really is hard. It's really difficult.
- 2:13It's lovely, but it's hard at the same time.
- 2:15Yeah. I.
- 2:15Get it? Yeah, definitely.
- 2:17And then like, we've come back into school, we've come back
- 2:19into school time and it's just been thing after thing after
- 2:23thing. We today I've had Arya had a
- 2:25stay and play which I had to fight so hard to be able to go
- 2:30down for 10 minutes. Autumn's had a school trip this
- 2:34week. It's just been, it's been a lot,
- 2:39but also a little bit of nothing all at the same time.
- 2:42Yeah, I get you, I get you. Yeah, so and I, I spent all
- 2:47Saturday, all Saturday, you know, all Sunday at home
- 2:50watching the London Marathon. I spent the whole day inside.
- 2:53I remember because you were actively voice noting me and
- 2:56messaging me while you were watching the London Marathon,
- 2:59telling me where everybody was. Yeah, may I cry so much?
- 3:03Is Cynthia a rezone? I downloaded the app and I was
- 3:07like tracking them on the app whilst also watching the telly
- 3:10and watching the like iPlayer live to see everyone come
- 3:13through. I absolutely.
- 3:15Finished line. The dedication.
- 3:17To it. I loved it.
- 3:18Yeah. As of next year, we're going to
- 3:19go. If we're not part of it, we're
- 3:22going to go and watch it next year.
- 3:24Good plan, absolutely love that I think.
- 3:26How was your week anyway? Ricky went to watch the marathon
- 3:28just before I move on. Ricky went to I.
- 3:30Saw. Yeah, and he said it was
- 3:31amazing. He really loved it.
- 3:33He said it was so. Lovely, wasn't he?
- 3:35Yeah, so many people just coming together and cheering, like and
- 3:38cheering for people that you don't even know, but you're so
- 3:39happy for them and you're so like, proud of people you don't
- 3:42even know. So I think I'd love to get my
- 3:44race tour. I thought that would be quite
- 3:45good. My race top for the Torbay Half
- 3:47Marathon, they've they, they give you letters and then you
- 3:50can decide what's written on the back if you talk.
- 3:52But they advise you to put your name because people cheer for
- 3:55you even if they don't know you. So if you put your name, then
- 3:59they know like instead of like your team name or like doing
- 4:03this for such and such. They know your name to cheer you
- 4:06on. Yeah, so, so you're telling me
- 4:08that the the people of Torbay are going to be going come on
- 4:11Galaxy Crashes podcast because you're definitely going to be
- 4:13advertising that on your runners bad, right?
- 4:18You can do it. Yes, my Race for Life is going
- 4:21to say it says this is for. And then there's a big blank
- 4:25space. I'm just going to put our logo
- 4:27there. Go for.
- 4:28It, I love that, absolutely. I'm doing this race because I
- 4:31I'm doing my. Because I want to get a bit of
- 4:35publicity and I didn't think of any other way.
- 4:37I'm desperate. I really am desperate.
- 4:40I love that. That's hilarious.
- 4:42Oh, my goodness. How's your?
- 4:44Yeah, it's OK. It's we've had a really rough
- 4:48few weeks as a family, family members of Paulie and stuff.
- 4:52So it's been a bit bumpy with that.
- 4:53But I did have a really lovely weekend with my daughter.
- 4:57Jack was away visiting his friends in Reading so I had like
- 5:00a full mummy daughter weekend which was so like.
- 5:02Lovely. And it was sunny, it was really
- 5:05sunny, so we were outside like the whole time.
- 5:07It was so lovely. And we had like a beach trip and
- 5:10we did like park visits and we went for walks and we played in
- 5:13the garden. We had picnics in the garden and
- 5:16on Saturday night we had our first movie night, which like
- 5:21now she's 2. She's like obviously she's,
- 5:24she's very hard to sort of like sit still for more than like
- 5:27half an hour. She doesn't quite want to sit
- 5:29still for that long. However, she did sit and watch
- 5:32the whole of Moana, which I was very, very pleased with because
- 5:36she loved. Legend.
- 5:37Water Movie. So I'm OK with it.
- 5:39And we had pizza for dinner and then we had ice cream and we sat
- 5:43like with the tub and both our little spoons and it was like
- 5:46under the blanket. It was so cute.
- 5:48We were just sat. I love that.
- 5:50Yeah, it was so nice. It was really, really cute.
- 5:52So yeah, it was a lovely, a lovely weekend.
- 5:55And obviously we are actually recording on a Wednesday night,
- 5:58which is weird because we normally record on a Monday.
- 6:00But it's been, like I said, a bit of a bumpy week for us.
- 6:02So it's nice to be midweek and know that it's only two more
- 6:06days and then the weekends here again and then it's time to sort
- 6:09of chill out. And Molly's Nana.
- 6:12As well. This weekend, yes.
- 6:13Molly's Nana's coming for the weekend which will be so lovely
- 6:15to have somebody else around to like spend time with her and
- 6:18just give me a little bit of a break because it's been a very
- 6:21full on couple of weeks with her.
- 6:23She is like full on in her no stage.
- 6:28Oh yeah, let me, let me. It doesn't stop.
- 6:31It's fun in it doesn't stop. Nobody warned me it's fun.
- 6:34Nobody warned me. Seven years.
- 6:35At. The moment she literally puts
- 6:39her hands on her hips like this and she goes no mummy.
- 6:43Wow, I love them. And everybody's always like, oh,
- 6:46she's so adorable, She's so cute.
- 6:48And then I literally take videos of her sat on the naughty step
- 6:50just screaming at the top of her lungs.
- 6:52And I'm just like, this is what I'm doing.
- 6:53What? A girl what a girl?
- 6:56Today she spent half an hour, half an hour.
- 6:59Yeah, true, half an hour. Sat there today because she was
- 7:01so stubborn. She just wouldn't say sorry.
- 7:03She would not say sorry. And I was like, I can't, I can't
- 7:05blame her because I'm stubborn. I suppose she's got it from it's
- 7:07me, so I can't only blame myself.
- 7:11Can't I really? But yeah.
- 7:13She's. She's got a lot going on, but
- 7:15bless her, other than that, it's been, it's been a nice week.
- 7:17And you know what? Seeing that sunshine, doesn't it
- 7:21just make you feel so much better.
- 7:23So much. Although I will say it was so
- 7:26nice here on Monday. So then yesterday I wore a dress
- 7:30to work with no tie. So I went there and sandals and
- 7:35it was overcast and it was so cold.
- 7:37And I sit in the morning in the area of the school where there's
- 7:41no. Shelter.
- 7:43There's like the the sun hits the other side, it comes there.
- 7:46In the afternoon. I was freezing my tits off.
- 7:51I was like, this is not OK. Oh.
- 7:57My goodness, I know the feeling. I went to a new school this week
- 8:00as well. I did the same thing.
- 8:02I didn't wear tights. I wore like a long dress to
- 8:04school. It was a new a new school for me
- 8:06as well, and I was only there for two hours, but I felt like
- 8:08I'd been there a week. It was one of those classes.
- 8:11It was a long. A long afternoon, but yeah, I
- 8:14feel the the no tights thing was quite nice.
- 8:17But then when the wind captures you, you're like, oh, it's
- 8:19still, it's still not summer yet.
- 8:21I can feel the breeze and the hairs on my legs.
- 8:25Yes, exactly. It's time for this or that.
- 8:30No thinking, no hesitation, just raw gut instinct and potential
- 8:35regret. OK, and this week we're fully
- 8:38late, leaning into the heartbreak drama and like main
- 8:41character energy syndrome. Oh yes, so like I said, I've
- 8:46been really in my busted era this week.
- 8:49So I've been listening to like the deep cuts, like the the
- 8:53silly, like fun songs like Shipwrecked in Atlantis, which
- 8:57really doesn't make any sense at all.
- 8:59But it's just so funny. They have crashed a plane and
- 9:03they're now having fun in a water park on an island
- 9:05somewhere. Like, it's crazy.
- 9:07So as I was thinking about my busted deep cuts and obviously
- 9:11knowing that this episode is all about without you, I thought I'd
- 9:16give you this. Listening to without you in bed,
- 9:19crying into your pillow, which we've all done.
- 9:23Or staring out the window of a train but secretly watching your
- 9:27own reflection like you're in a music video.
- 9:29Because we've also all done that.
- 9:32Us train. Us train girlies.
- 9:35Yeah, I actually think this is quite easy this week.
- 9:42OK. Staring out a window?
- 9:45OK. Love that feeling.
- 9:46Staring out a window like I'm in a music video for two reasons.
- 9:51The first one I won't tell you because it's a spoiler for the
- 9:53rest of the episode. OK, we'll hold it. 3 And the
- 10:02second reason is I think I spent at least three years of my
- 10:08teenage years consecutively staring at windows, pretending I
- 10:12was in music videos, chasing, chasing raindrops down my
- 10:15window. Why?
- 10:17Were we, why were we so cool? I remember like I can always
- 10:20remember literally sitting in the train, like up against the
- 10:23window and you can always see your reflection.
- 10:25I used to use it as a way of looking at the people around me
- 10:27and what they were doing you. Can just spy.
- 10:31On the people around you, yeah, I think I would.
- 10:34I'm definitely the same, although I have probably spent a
- 10:37lot of time crying into my pillow as a teenager listening
- 10:40to deep cuts like this. So on our TikTok live, we've got
- 10:43a couple of a couple of answers. Violet says she's definitely
- 10:46staring out the window kind of girl and Mia as well. 100%
- 10:49staring out the train window. So there you go.
- 10:52It's a it's across the board. Quite a few of us are feeling
- 10:55that main character energy, main character vibes.
- 10:58Absolutely love that. Thank you girls for your
- 11:00comments. OK?
- 11:02Have you got a this or that for me this week?
- 11:05Yes, I've got technically 2, but I'm going to use it as one.
- 11:09OK, so my first one is well, my my main one is busted in their
- 11:13like ballad era, like the big big ballady songs or their fun
- 11:20upbeat songs. Oh.
- 11:23That's so hard because I literally just spoke about that.
- 11:26I use Shipwrecked in Atlantis as an example, which was probably
- 11:30not a good idea because it's not one of their top songs for me.
- 11:35So hard because you know, my all time favourite McFly song, which
- 11:40like it's going to be a long time till we get there because
- 11:42it's halfway through the next album.
- 11:43But Meet You There is like top tier busted for me.
- 11:49Like top tier busted song. Yeah.
- 11:51I love Meet You There so much, and I think I would choose Meet
- 11:55You There over any other Busted song any day to actually
- 11:58specifically the Abbey Road version.
- 12:00But obviously I still like the original and like 3 AM, 3:00 AM
- 12:06is like, and again, love the original, but I feel like the
- 12:102.0 version of 3:00 AM is something else because it's got
- 12:13Charlie's little scream in it and it's like, Oh yeah, like the
- 12:16emo kid in me. It's just like, yes, Charlie,
- 12:18It's like. He's got something to prove.
- 12:21He deserves to be back in the band.
- 12:22That's like that. Yeah.
- 12:25I. Can I have an amazing voice
- 12:27Listen to me? So so difficult.
- 12:30I I think Abbey Road meet you there really does shift it to
- 12:35the busted ballad era for me. But you know, saying that is
- 12:39really hard to like not imagine me dancing around to crash the
- 12:42wedding and our Hostess in the 3000 because they are like such
- 12:45bangers. But if I had to, had to, had to
- 12:48choose, I think it would have to be, yeah, ballad era for me.
- 12:52Ballad era for me. What?
- 12:53OK, what would you have chosen? So it's really hard because some
- 12:58of my favourite songs in the world are busted ballads like I
- 13:03There is Who's David and 3:00 AM are just like 10 out of 10 songs
- 13:08for me. However, there is no feeling
- 13:13like dancing around your kitchen and your pyjamas to She Wants to
- 13:17Be Me and falling for you somebody.
- 13:21Notice me. Somebody notice me?
- 13:23Honestly, that song. Is.
- 13:26So fucking good. Genuinely, it's so simple.
- 13:31The concept of that song is so simple, but I so I think that
- 13:36tips me that tips me to the upbeats genuinely, I just want.
- 13:41I just love. Dancing around to When I think
- 13:45of nostalgic Busted, I think of the fun songs before I think of
- 13:50the others. Yeah, I get you.
- 13:53And I think I'm the same. But I think that I'm like, you
- 13:56know me. Oh, my sad girl era never ended.
- 13:59I am like knee deep in it all the time.
- 14:03Sometimes I'm drowning in it, sometimes I'm dipping in a turn,
- 14:05but I'm always in it. There's always something going
- 14:08on. So my half second question is
- 14:12same question, what about McFly? Oh, oh, that's hard because like
- 14:20the heart never lies. Forever is not enough.
- 14:22Love is easy. Like how can I not choose those?
- 14:30Because I think even Ballad of 4K, you had to slide that in
- 14:34there, didn't you? For those of you that don't
- 14:37know, Shannon loves that song. I love that song so much.
- 14:42In my head I'm like because don't get me wrong, like 5
- 14:45colours like obviously amazing. Like that sort of energy from
- 14:49McFly is so so good. Star Girl is one of my top McFly
- 14:52songs. I love Star Girl so much but I
- 14:55do really enjoy their like it's not like maybe not the emotional
- 15:00ballads like that, it's not that about McFly.
- 15:02But I do enjoy the slightly more like less slightly less gimmicky
- 15:07ones because their vocals just are chef's kiss on point.
- 15:14Like listen. To Danny and forever is not
- 15:16enough. Like you can't you can't compare
- 15:20that to do you know what I mean? As much as I love 5 colours,
- 15:24it's not the same. You can't compare the vocals in
- 15:28that the same with Tom. I mean Tom.
- 15:30Oh, Tom. Oh, Tom Fletcher, Mr. Fletcher,
- 15:35the man you are. Like his voice is just
- 15:39incredible and every song I hear them sing is amazing.
- 15:42But I do feel like the slightly slowed down ones, not
- 15:44necessarily like the ballads, but like even like love is easy
- 15:48like to to strip it back. And like I think even like the
- 15:52acoustic versions and stuff. So, so good.
- 15:54I think I like to really be able to hear their vocals.
- 15:59And I just think that you can hear that better with those
- 16:02slower, more emotional songs than you can with like the
- 16:05upbeat like 5 Colours. Do you know what I mean?
- 16:08I'm going, I'm going double ballast.
- 16:10I'm going double ballast. I'm going ballad for that one.
- 16:14I love their upbeat songs but I think nothing beats like She
- 16:20falls Asleep walking in the Sun. Bubble.
- 16:23Wrap. They're like they're 10 out of
- 16:2710's and there is like this is I think the album we're on right
- 16:33now that we're almost about to end.
- 16:34Room on the 3rd floor is probably their most upbeat
- 16:36poppy. Yeah, very, you know from anyone
- 16:40and next few albums. You can tell.
- 16:42You can tell because I've rated it quite low, because I love the
- 16:47not alone's of it all, you know? Yeah.
- 16:51I'm very much looking forward to doing our album episode, which
- 16:55will be not next week, the week after, I think, isn't it last?
- 16:58Next week is Broccoli. So yeah, it'll be the week.
- 17:01The week after next, we'll be doing Lose a Kid and then it'll
- 17:04be the album review. So we have one album review for
- 17:07Busted, one album review for McFly.
- 17:10I'm very much looking to looking forward to seeing what your
- 17:12album rating is because I know that you don't rate this album
- 17:16as highly as I do, but I know compared to other albums I still
- 17:20rate it low in my head. Do you know what I mean?
- 17:22Like you feel like my rating is higher than yours, but it's
- 17:25definitely not my favourite album.
- 17:28I The thing about this album is the songs that I love on this
- 17:31album are the album track tracks.
- 17:35The singles on this album I think are subpar, but I think
- 17:40it's because I'm comparing them to other albums where the
- 17:45singles on those albums, they they've grown, the band has
- 17:49grown, the lyrics have grown. Everything is just, they get
- 17:53better with age. Oh.
- 17:54God, of course they do their album.
- 17:55Tracks on this album are so good because they feel nostalgic.
- 17:59Yeah, exactly. That's what it is.
- 18:00I think it's nostalgia. It takes you back to being young
- 18:03teenager with your MP3 player and you've made sure that Five
- 18:06Colours is on there because it's your favourite song ever and
- 18:08you're playing it over and over again.
- 18:10Like, you know, there are people that that are young that listen
- 18:13to me fly now, that will never know that feeling because it was
- 18:16so long ago, because we're so old.
- 18:18Yeah. We're so old.
- 18:21There's been a few comments about what we've been talking
- 18:23about as us. I'm just going to read a few of
- 18:25them. Lots of people, lots of people
- 18:28agreeing that me there is amazing and that ballads are the
- 18:33way forward for Busted. Let's have a look at this one,
- 18:37says Ben. Still waiting.
- 18:39Still waiting for them to put Abbey Road version on Spotify.
- 18:41Ben, honest to God, if I actually go on to YouTube to
- 18:45listen to this song any more times, I listen to the original
- 18:49version. It's just not the same.
- 18:51Yeah, every three, all the I'll get all the pop ups, all the
- 18:54ads, all the viruses. I'm computer just so I can
- 18:56listen to the you torrent. So lots of people have agreed
- 19:01with Ben there. Violet loving she wants to be
- 19:04me. Absolutely.
- 19:06Yeah. Lots of people also choosing
- 19:07McFly ballads. Mia saying this is such a hard
- 19:09question. Top tier ballad of Paul K
- 19:12Absolutely love that Shannon. Shannon loves that song so much
- 19:16and I don't rate it as much and I think I'm going to get a lot
- 19:19of hate for this. Sorry.
- 19:22I don't know why I don't like it.
- 19:24I think it's the weird music video.
- 19:25It's not the song itself. I think I just relate it to the
- 19:28music video and I'm like so weird.
- 19:31It's just, I think, strange video.
- 19:33I think that song is genuinely 10 out of 10 across the board.
- 19:39Like live this is a spoiler for like the next album, but like
- 19:43live the music video I think is 10 out of 10.
- 19:47I don't know why I feel. So nostalgic I don't hate.
- 19:49The song, I don't hate the song, I just I don't like the video so
- 19:53it creeps me out a little bit. So I've got like this these
- 19:55dreams, feeling about corona. I just don't like it.
- 20:00I'm sorry. It's not nothing personal like
- 20:03it is a good job I'm. Taking it personal, I'm.
- 20:06Sorry, but lots of people agreeing with you.
- 20:08That ballad of Paul K is great and yeah, lots of I would
- 20:12commit. Crimes to hear ballad of Paul K
- 20:14live I love that I'm. Young, but I always feel like I
- 20:16was in the 2000s witnessing it. Oh honesty, you'll wish you were
- 20:20because the 2000s were someone else.
- 20:22They were the best years. It's Charlie's high notes after
- 20:25the second chorus. Absolutely.
- 20:27The music video is the best. I would commit crimes.
- 20:29I would hit the ballad of Paul K live.
- 20:32Absolutely love that I'm with. You, I'll help you hide the body
- 20:35I. Love it.
- 20:36Absolutely love it. Well, I think for me, ballads
- 20:39McFly and Ballads Busted. And you're are you upbeat?
- 20:43Busted. Ballads McFly.
- 20:44Is that what you were going for? Yeah.
- 20:46Yeah, I can't. You just can't keep, you cannot
- 20:49be the feeling. If she wants to be me, No.
- 20:51It's very true. It's very, very true.
- 20:53It was a very, very difficult question.
- 20:55Thank you for making me contemplate my life choices.
- 20:59You're welcome. It's time for In The Wild, where
- 21:04we talk about what the boys from both bands have been up to.
- 21:08A little confession, it was supposed to be we are family
- 21:10this week but I totally messed up the order a couple of weeks
- 21:13ago so apologies there. But it doesn't really matter
- 21:16because how could we possibly record this week without talking
- 21:19about Harry Judd? Because this week we've got
- 21:22fitness which feels off brand for me, not going to lie, not
- 21:25really into my fitness, but here we are.
- 21:29Let's have a chat about Harry completing the London Marathon.
- 21:33So, Shannon, you watched the London Marathon, didn't you
- 21:35Live. Do you want to talk a little bit
- 21:36about about what you saw, what you were like following?
- 21:40Yeah. How was it?
- 21:42Well, I watched it from the beginning.
- 21:44I literally I made the girls their lunch the night before and
- 21:48put it in the fridge so they wouldn't have to disturb me by
- 21:50asking me for food. That is such a Shannon thing to
- 21:55do, really well prepared. It's all done, you don't have to
- 21:59bother me now. I gave them not to.
- 22:00Come near me, I gave them while I'm watching the marathon
- 22:03because I'm looking out for Harry Judd and I do not want to.
- 22:06See that man on the telly instead?
- 22:08I just saw a man running with a fridge on his back, but that's
- 22:11fine. Oh, I.
- 22:12Saw that too. Fair play to him though, it's a.
- 22:14Really good message behind it, but I was like him.
- 22:17He's got so much air time. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:20Where's? Harry.
- 22:22Where's Harry? It was brilliant.
- 22:25It was so good. It sent me into like an
- 22:27emotional spiral. The reason why these people are
- 22:30running, like everybody's got a personal reason, whether it's to
- 22:34hit a personal best or because they needed something to work
- 22:38towards or whether it's just the next thing to tick off their box
- 22:42or whether they're running for a charity or in aid of a family
- 22:47member who's passed or, you know, this, that everybody's got
- 22:50their own reason. And it made me so emotional.
- 22:55I remember sending a picture to my friend Danny, who I run with
- 22:58at 8:30. The coverage started and a woman
- 23:02was on the screen saying that she was running because she had
- 23:06an eptopic pregnancy. And she's trying to get the word
- 23:10out about like the symptoms that that that you get at the
- 23:14beginning. And I was gone.
- 23:16When I tell you I was like, this hurts.
- 23:21These people are doing it because it hurts.
- 23:24And it was, oh, my goodness, it was so, so good.
- 23:28And. Things like that are really
- 23:29important because I think as somebody who's experienced that
- 23:33themselves first hand, people don't know about it at all.
- 23:37Like I didn't know about it. So when it happened to me, I was
- 23:40like, what the hell is this? Like what's happening?
- 23:42I think being able to be on national telly and actually
- 23:45stand in front of all those people with a little, you know,
- 23:48they've got like a little pink logo for it now, the awareness
- 23:54for it. And I think that's amazing
- 23:55because, you know, yes, lots of people run for Cancer Research
- 23:59or the like Hospice care, children's hospitals, all of
- 24:03those things like Great Ormond St, like all of those big
- 24:05charities. But there are very small
- 24:07charities that are also very, very important, like the Ectopic
- 24:11Pregnancy Trust. And they are so small, they
- 24:14don't get a lot of funding. And the making people aware,
- 24:17aware, more aware of it is amazing.
- 24:19So fair play to her. Love that, Absolutely love that
- 24:22there was this. Man who?
- 24:23There's this man who like I was genuinely, when I tell you I was
- 24:26bawling my eyes out, he ran with a pair of shoes around his neck.
- 24:30And I was really confused. And his son had died at the age
- 24:36of like, I think it was like 6. And he was like, he's running
- 24:41with me. He had his his son's shoes.
- 24:44And I was like, this means so much to so many people.
- 24:47And I just think whether you're doing it for a personal best or
- 24:50for something a lot deeper. You're an.
- 24:53Absolute. You're an absolute hero for
- 24:55doing it. I think you are the best of the
- 24:57best. The 1% club, that's what they
- 24:59call themselves. Because did you know only 1% of
- 25:01people ever run a marathon? Wow.
- 25:04That's interesting. It will not be me, I'm not going
- 25:08to lie. And not because.
- 25:10Not because I don't want to, because I will probably die.
- 25:14Probably die. Probably.
- 25:16I have a friend who also did it, Emily, she's a mum, She's got a
- 25:20little girl who's one and a bit now and fair play to her because
- 25:26I'm two years postpartum and I'm still not up for it.
- 25:30She's got half a year on her and she smashed it, absolutely
- 25:34smashed it. So I saw her, her mum had made
- 25:37her like a little like well done Emily Sign with 26.3 or whatever
- 25:41it is, the amount, whatever mileage is it is.
- 25:46It was so, so lovely. Fair play to them.
- 25:48You know, I think it's mad and it's really funny because I see
- 25:50her running all the time and I always think, oh, I wonder what
- 25:53she's running for. And then she's not just running
- 25:56and then she. Did the marathon, Yeah, because.
- 25:58I see her everywhere, like I see her the the other week before
- 26:01last, I saw her in the local village and then I saw her like
- 26:033 or 4 miles away and I was like, what are you doing here?
- 26:07I just saw you up there. And she'd literally run the
- 26:08whole circuit and she just kept running and running.
- 26:10Fair play, absolutely fair play. So let's talk a little bit about
- 26:14Harry. Harry finished in three hours
- 26:18and 5 minutes, shaving a whole 10 minutes off of his time from
- 26:22last year. Which in the running world is a
- 26:25lot, right? A lot.
- 26:27Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so much. And also just to like, just to
- 26:33say how fast that actually is I put into ChatGPT, how like the
- 26:38speed that I'm running right now and where I'll be in September
- 26:42when I do my half marathon, how fast will I be able to complete
- 26:45it? And it said about 2 1/2 hours
- 26:491/2. And he did a whole marathon in
- 26:53three hours, 3 hours. And five minutes, That's mental.
- 26:56Did you see that the actual guy that that won the marathon ran
- 26:59it in? Oh my goodness.
- 27:00Under 2 hours. What's on earth?
- 27:04Is he human? Is he?
- 27:05Made of. He did not.
- 27:07Just see him. There was two of them.
- 27:09There was. Two of them were.
- 27:10Right behind each other. Weren't they so, so close?
- 27:12I watched, I watched him finish and we were all like on the edge
- 27:15of our seats because I was like, Oh my God, you've got 30
- 27:17seconds, Are you actually going to do it?
- 27:18Because he would be the first person ever to do it in under 2
- 27:20hours. World record?
- 27:23Absolutely. Imagine being the guy behind him
- 27:25though though. Like he also broke the world
- 27:27record. I only.
- 27:30Didn't, But he didn't. 10 seconds Violet saying I can't
- 27:35even last. APE lesson gal I feel yeah.
- 27:40To be honest, I consider walking to the fridge or work out
- 27:44because that's the kind of person I am.
- 27:46Yeah, right. Oh my goodness.
- 27:49He's running out here running 26 miles for fun.
- 27:52I know fair play to him though. Fair play to him, I think.
- 27:56I think it's incredible. And like we know Harry loves his
- 27:59running. It's his thing, isn't it?
- 28:00And we see it a lot on on his on his socials and we know that
- 28:04it's something that he loves and he's doing that.
- 28:05He's done the marathon a few years in a row.
- 28:06But I think it's amazing that he's beat his personal best and
- 28:09he enjoys it because he talks about it all the time.
- 28:12So now he loves it. It's a little bit like somebody
- 28:15else I know likes to bring likes to bring running up all the
- 28:19time. I mean, I'm very proud, very
- 28:21proud of him, very proud of him. I think it's amazing.
- 28:24I'm very inspired. But I will not be following in
- 28:26his footsteps. I will definitely be leaving
- 28:28that out to you. Mrs I've signed up for next
- 28:31year's marathon. When I saw your post I was like
- 28:35oh Oh my goodness I got strapped.
- 28:37Up in the moment, I got strapped up in the moment and I signed up
- 28:40for next year's London Marathon, put my name.
- 28:42In Yeah, I should put it in. The ballot, loads of people,
- 28:45well at that point I was like, loads of people don't get in
- 28:47anyway. And then at the end of the race
- 28:49they were like, we're thinking about doing it for two days next
- 28:52year. I was like fuck, I've just
- 28:54doubled my chance. If you get, if you get in, it's
- 29:00got to be done. It's got to be done.
- 29:02Yeah, did you, did you watch? The the last, the last runner,
- 29:06the last person, the lady, the old lady, Oh my God.
- 29:09She was on like it was like 8 or 9 hours or something and she was
- 29:13literally like at the end she was just like like walk speed
- 29:16walking and it was just so sweet.
- 29:18I was literally thinking that would be me.
- 29:22Well, I would be the last. I'd get a medal for being the
- 29:24last person. Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:29So while we're here, we've got a few minutes on the in this
- 29:32section. Do you want to talk a little bit
- 29:34about why you chose to start running?
- 29:36Because we do talk about it a little bit every week.
- 29:38And I know we always make jokes about you, you're running
- 29:40schedules and stuff. But I feel like it'd be
- 29:42interesting to let people know, like, why you decided to do it
- 29:45and what it's actually done for you.
- 29:46Because it's been quite a big turning point for you, I think,
- 29:48hasn't it? Oh 100%.
- 29:51I have tried all the diets and all the things that you're told
- 29:57you're supposed to do to keep fit and be healthy, and I
- 30:01consider my eating very healthy anyway.
- 30:04I eat what I expect my children to eat, so I don't eat shit
- 30:08ever, really. I have crisps every now and
- 30:11again once I've gone to bed and I enjoy the whole crisp or slice
- 30:14of carrot cake. Calm.
- 30:15Down carrot cake is a vegetable. I don't care what anybody says,
- 30:19it's a vegetable. I celebrated Arya eating a
- 30:23carrot cake because I was like Oh my God, she's like carrot.
- 30:26I love that, love that for her. But yeah, I've tried all those
- 30:30things and I, I've done Couch 5K before.
- 30:32I've done it three times. I did it in lockdown, I did it
- 30:35when I moved up here. And I just can't commit to it.
- 30:39And I enjoyed it, but I could never commit because I was too
- 30:43paranoid and anxious about what other people thought of me.
- 30:47And my friend at the end of last year said to me, oh, I'm
- 30:50thinking about doing couch to 5K because she she works in the
- 30:54office at the school that I work in.
- 30:55And she was like, I'm sat on my ass all day all day, a fancy
- 31:00half an hour without children around me because she also has
- 31:03kids at home like I do. She was like, so think I might
- 31:06start couch to 5K she's. And she said to me, would you do
- 31:09it with me? And I said no to start.
- 31:14And then I, I was like, no, I've, I've tried twice.
- 31:17I can't do it. I've tried twice.
- 31:20And then she said to me, I don't think I'm going to do it a week
- 31:24later. I don't think I'm going to do
- 31:25it. No one would do it with me.
- 31:27And I work better when I bounce off someone.
- 31:30And I said to her, if I can do it on my treadmill with you,
- 31:34I'll do it. So you.
- 31:35Don't have to go out and. She was like, OK, that's fine.
- 31:38And tell you what, I started and I regretted it straight away. 60
- 31:43seconds on a treadmill felt like 60 hours on a treadmill.
- 31:49It was awful. But then like it works.
- 31:53Fast forward 3 weeks and I was out with her outside trying to
- 31:57beat my anxiety. That's been my big my big thing.
- 32:00It's not about losing weight. It's not about, it is about
- 32:05keeping fit, but it's about my mental health really.
- 32:10And I tell you now from that 62nd interval run, my first
- 32:17week, 4 weeks later, you're running for 20 minutes.
- 32:21And before that run, I had the biggest panic attack I can
- 32:25remember. I was like, I can't do it.
- 32:27I can't do it. I'm going to let her down
- 32:29because that's part part of my anxiety as well as like I'm such
- 32:33a people pleaser to a fault where I will like I'd give
- 32:37someone my last penny if they asked me because I don't want to
- 32:40let people down. And I really felt like I was
- 32:45going to let down. I had a huge panic attack, but I
- 32:47did it. And the feeling I felt after I
- 32:50did that run, I was like, I need to chase that run as high
- 32:54because I, the elation genuinely felt phenomenal.
- 32:59And now every week I run probably minimum hour and 20
- 33:03minutes. We're not fast runners, we're
- 33:07slow gals. We're doing like. 9K9K even
- 33:12walking this one K is hard. When we went to London, I was
- 33:16like 3 miles away, could run that.
- 33:20And the other day I ran 6 miles and I said this to Danny.
- 33:25I was like, you say 5K and it it feels like everyone can run a
- 33:30cheeky 5K, but if you said can you run 3 miles which is 5K,
- 33:35Yeah, it feels so different to say that.
- 33:39No, yeah, I ran that one. With also.
- 33:44With confidence, no. Yeah, somebody at work said to
- 33:48us as well. The other day, we put our poster
- 33:49for our fundraising for our half marathon in the staff room and a
- 33:55woman came over to us and was like, you 2?
- 33:58And we were like, yeah, us. And we owned it.
- 34:01And she was like, she she said to us, do you run the whole way?
- 34:05And I was like, without stopping.
- 34:07Yes, yes, we you like we don't, we don't say that we can't walk,
- 34:13but we try and run the distance and then incorporate the walks
- 34:17in if we need them. But also we will always run the
- 34:19first one. You're not stopping, you're not
- 34:21sitting down and having a cup of coffee and then doing the next
- 34:23mile like you're still moving. Your body needs to have a have a
- 34:27break every now and again. Exactly, but I I don't think I
- 34:31would say that I can run 10K if I couldn't run that can.
- 34:34Do it. Yeah, my God.
- 34:35And also none of our business mind your business literally
- 34:39and. I just loved being like your
- 34:40business. I love being able to do the
- 34:44verbal middle finger in the middle of the the school staff
- 34:47room. And I was like, yes, absolutely.
- 34:49And. Fair play to you.
- 34:53It does encourage me to want to do it.
- 34:55And I've said this to my friend Tasha.
- 34:56I was with her the other night and I was like, we were just
- 34:59like, oh, I need to lose some weight and I need to do some
- 35:01more fitness and bloom. And I said I'm going to do couch
- 35:03to five Ki just need to actually start it.
- 35:06I keep telling myself. I'm going to do it.
- 35:08I'm going to do it but I have so many markets on this month that
- 35:11I know I'm going to be absolutely knackered because I
- 35:14am working every weekend. I work three days a week and I
- 35:17work on the weekend and on the two days I don't have work.
- 35:19I have my daughter so I am busy every day like there is no I'll
- 35:24tell you. What sells it for me, I'll tell
- 35:26you what sells it for me genuinely is if I'm not doing it
- 35:31for my mental health, then I am doing it so I can spend an hour
- 35:34away from my kids every day, three times, not every day,
- 35:38three times a week. It's.
- 35:39Not in the. 90s but we love. Our children don't get us.
- 35:42We love our children, but. But I can listen to a whole
- 35:47podcast I would love in one guy without losing.
- 35:52Yeah, I've missed so many episodes of On the Mend with
- 35:54Matt Willis because I haven't had time to think about it.
- 35:58I put it on and it starts and I really, I was listening to the
- 36:00Professor Green episode the other day and I was like, this
- 36:02is amazing. Really enjoying listening to it.
- 36:05It was getting really deep, really emotional.
- 36:07And then Molly woke up and I was like, well, that's the end of
- 36:09that because I can't listen to that while she she's running
- 36:13around asking me can I take her socks off and can she have a
- 36:16wafer and can we put Mickey Mouse on and Mummy, I've done a
- 36:19poo. Oh, great, cool.
- 36:21Thanks for that. Like.
- 36:24Do it. Start couch 5K.
- 36:26You won't hear it. I'm going to do it.
- 36:28I'm going to do it. You've inspired me.
- 36:30Thank you for that. I appreciate you.
- 36:31You're. Welcome, it's time for Song of
- 36:36the Week. And this week we are emotionally
- 36:40unwell because we are talking about Without You by Busted.
- 36:43Now this is the kind of song when you lie on your bed and
- 36:47rethink your entire life at the age of 14 because.
- 36:51I I did it or 32? Absolutely.
- 36:55I'm 33 now, so you know. Oh, there we go.
- 36:58Absolutely. OK, let's get into the song
- 37:00then. Let's go for ratings.
- 37:04Why we like it, why we don't like it, where it ranks in, you
- 37:07know, Busted songs of all time. Let's talk a little bit about
- 37:10the lyrics and if there's any favourite parts of the song.
- 37:14Do you want to go first? Because I've got a feeling we're
- 37:16going to differ a little bit on this.
- 37:20Yeah, sure, I'm scared. I'm not scared.
- 37:22I'm not. I'm not scared to tell you that
- 37:24I give this a 2 out of 10 to Shannon.
- 37:33So sad the deep cut by the girls are crying right now.
- 37:40I don't like it actually. I'll give it a three.
- 37:43I think some of the vocals no don't.
- 37:45Take it back. You went to go where you got No,
- 37:47no, no. I'll go no, I'll go 3 because I
- 37:49think I'm doing Charlie a bit unfair on his vocals.
- 37:53I do think they're very good. I just think the song is
- 37:59forgettable. OK, yeah, true.
- 38:03Because we did actually forget it was on the album.
- 38:06So definitely I would. Never choose to listen to this
- 38:09song ever. If it came on, I'd be like, oh,
- 38:13he sounds good, but I wouldn't. I probably would be like, what's
- 38:16this song? I don't like it.
- 38:20I'm not, I'm not, I'm I feel like I know we've got loser kid,
- 38:25but I feel like it's really flat way to end an album.
- 38:30Yeah, I think Loser Kid is is a good final song.
- 38:34This being the penultimate does let it down a little bit.
- 38:36I think it probably would have been better to have like Britney
- 38:40or like even like Psycho Girl would have been a bit better to
- 38:42have, you know, because it's even though it's a bit weird,
- 38:45it's still upbeat. I agree in that like it can be
- 38:49quite forgettable and it's not one of those songs I get in the
- 38:52car and think I want to listen to this song, but when it comes
- 38:54on, I do sing it. I don't skip it very often.
- 38:57I do often sing it, but it is sorry I just saw somebody on
- 39:05dictating normalising blasphemy. Yes, we are, obviously.
- 39:12Apparently that's what we're doing.
- 39:14I, I give this I it's not top busted song for me, but it's not
- 39:18a two. I'd give it like a six, maybe a
- 39:225 1/2 at lowest, but I think it's a good six for me.
- 39:25I think that I love Charlie's voice in this song.
- 39:28It's so Charlie. It's so raspy and low and like,
- 39:32oh, oh, it's so, I don't know. And it's, it's sad.
- 39:36Like the lyrics are sad. The way you always made me look
- 39:39at you with all the simple things you said, the way so many
- 39:42things surrounded you and all the tears it seemed to make and
- 39:46they were falling. There's nothing left to say.
- 39:48I can't break free. I mean, it's just really sad.
- 39:51I think it's a bit like, I just think it's a bit sad.
- 39:56I think it is. Sad, but I'm also a she wants to
- 40:00be me gal. So did you expect?
- 40:02Yeah, true. I mean, I I am a deep cut busted
- 40:05girl. Like you said, I'm a meet you
- 40:06there if you're if you're she wants to be me.
- 40:09This isn't a song for you, isn't it?
- 40:10Let's put it that way. They didn't acute.
- 40:12Spence says they did an acoustic version at the Royal Albert Hall
- 40:14and some of the note changes were wild.
- 40:17I think I've seen OK. I haven't heard that.
- 40:19I think I saved. The link for that so that I
- 40:22could send it to you before the episode today and I forgot,
- 40:27sorry. I will have another look at I'll
- 40:30send that to you later, Shannon, so you can have a look at it a
- 40:32bit too late for that now, sorry.
- 40:33Thank you for that though, Ben. We we do.
- 40:37I do feel like it's a lovely song.
- 40:39I do feel like it's a bit boring.
- 40:42It could come across a bit boring because there's nothing
- 40:44major to change in it. The Royal Albert Hall version
- 40:48with the the note changes, I feel like it made more of an
- 40:51impact on the song and I feel like they've done that with a
- 40:54few of their like flatter songs, even like the Meet You There,
- 40:58Albert Abbey Road version. It's different.
- 41:02There's more to it. There's more like oomph to it,
- 41:05there's more body to it and I feel like live they always are.
- 41:10But if we're talking about the track, I think it's definitely
- 41:13A5 and a half six for me. What don't you like about it?
- 41:18Do you think it's because it's flat?
- 41:20Do you think it's like because it's a bit more slow and I.
- 41:23Just. I.
- 41:25Just think I would rate every other busted song higher.
- 41:31Wow, every single one. Even 19.
- 41:35There's a Shannon, I'm telling you now.
- 41:38I was listening to Meet You there today, and I cannot
- 41:41believe that you don't like that song.
- 41:43Like there's something I know. I do, I like it more than this
- 41:47one. I just can't.
- 41:49When I hear that song, it reminds me of like us.
- 41:52So I got in my head, I'm like, I can't, but it reminds me of me
- 41:56and you at Bunga 90s. That's what it reminds me of, of
- 41:58us looking at all the old videos and you know, I just don't.
- 42:02I need. To give it another try, I.
- 42:03Think you need to I think you need We're going to get to the
- 42:06Halfway There album anyway, but 90s is amazing.
- 42:10Reunion is also really good. Mia.
- 42:13Great song, love that all. Songs I would rate higher than
- 42:17radio. Oh, radio so good.
- 42:19Yeah, sorry, I'm getting I'm getting on my Halfway There
- 42:22album love because I love that album.
- 42:24It's one of my favourite Busted albums, yeah, I think.
- 42:27If I'm rating songs, if I'm rating songs like on past songs,
- 42:32I've rated them A4 or A5 and I like them more than this.
- 42:38So it would do those songs a disservice, A disservice This
- 42:41the same level, OK. OK, but can we just have a
- 42:45minute for Charlie's vocals? Because yeah.
- 42:47We can. I always have a minute for
- 42:49Charlie's vocals. Always.
- 42:51His little low, low, raspy oh, I love it.
- 42:54And you know what? It's really sad.
- 42:56Like the ending, I feel like it's very like, you almost don't
- 43:00know it's ending because like the piano just sort of like
- 43:03drips off and it's quite a sad way to end it.
- 43:05It just says, and I see things now in these memories just to
- 43:09see you again and that's it. And it's just, and the piano
- 43:12just fades out and it's like, oh.
- 43:14It's gone. It's.
- 43:15It's finished. That's it.
- 43:16I will. Say OK bye.
- 43:18I'll redeem myself by saying it's 10 out of 10 live because I
- 43:21think any Busted song is 10. Busted song is 10 out of 10
- 43:23live. Absolutely.
- 43:24I'm down with that 100%. We've got some people on our
- 43:28TikTok live gasping at the blasphemy going on here,
- 43:32Shannon. So I mean, I'll let you deal
- 43:34with with that after when people are in boxing and telling us
- 43:37they're boycotting the podcast because you cannot be a Busted
- 43:40and McFly podcast woman because you hate them.
- 43:44I don't hate them. I just differently Oh I.
- 43:51Moved it just three because I appreciate Charlie every moment
- 43:55of my life. I appreciate that man, but I
- 43:57will say I just I just I would be doing the other.
- 43:59I'd be doing crash the wedding a disservice because I gave that
- 44:034. Yeah, I love that song.
- 44:05I love Crash the Wedding. It's a great song.
- 44:07I love all those cheesy, mimicky songs, though.
- 44:10You don't like them as much as me, but I love them.
- 44:12I think they're so fun. I.
- 44:13Love them, but I love the album ones I think they made obviously
- 44:19made they made the right ones singles because.
- 44:22Got them to where they. Are however, I just think
- 44:25they're better ones were not singles, yeah.
- 44:28I get that there are so many. Even I was listening to the
- 44:30Present For Everyone album and there were songs that came up.
- 44:32There was like Oh my God, I haven't heard this for so long.
- 44:35Also nerdy nerdy, so good. Why so good?
- 44:40Falling for you, How can we? How do we not hear that song
- 44:43more often? It's so good.
- 44:45How was that song not a single? Do you know what song?
- 44:48Is do you know why? Because he literally says are
- 44:52you the I paid to come and to come and.
- 44:57Me. Yeah, true.
- 45:01I mean. James Bond, we love you.
- 45:03We love you but maybe except to. But I mean, I still sing it.
- 45:09Sing it in the car could become. A lyric change in OH.
- 45:12Yeah, I also still do, you stupid lying bitch.
- 45:16Choose David in the car because. Why?
- 45:19Wouldn't you? Do you know what I mean?
- 45:21I do. As well and I feel like like
- 45:241312 year old 13 year old me used to scream that word just
- 45:27because it was a naughty word. Literally.
- 45:29This is I did a video of this stupid.
- 45:31Like I did. I did a video of me doing this
- 45:35in the car for a TikTok because I thought it was funny and when
- 45:38I watched it back I was like I looked ridiculous.
- 45:39I'm not I'm not putting that anywhere.
- 45:41That's. The point of TikTok?
- 45:42I was just. Screaming, but I was just
- 45:45screaming the word bitch because obviously I felt so cool saying
- 45:48that at like 13 I feel. Like I still do it feels feel
- 45:51like I still accidentally scream that word because it feels a bit
- 45:54naughty. I.
- 45:55Definitely do. It's the piano in the Hot.
- 45:58So Meet You there. Apparently Ben was talking about
- 46:00it on our TikTok live. He's saying that the piano in
- 46:03Meet You there is like all the way through, whereas in the
- 46:06actual album version it isn't there.
- 46:08It's only a little bit of the end.
- 46:09And he's so right. When I think of the when I think
- 46:13of the Abbey Road version, I can hear the piano.
- 46:15It starts with piano and it is so prominent all the way
- 46:18through. And there's also a note change
- 46:21and there's a little bit, there's a bit where one of the
- 46:25notes is held a lot longer and it's a lot more powerful.
- 46:28I think those like live versions and like the Albert Hall
- 46:31versions, the Abbey Road versions, they're all so much
- 46:34better than the truck versions because they age well, don't
- 46:36they? They add to something new to
- 46:38them. McFly do the same.
- 46:40When you see McFly do, obviously now it's so different to them
- 46:45doing it back in the day in 2004, you know, even doing it on
- 46:49the TV or whatever. Like I think it is just
- 46:51different. They do it differently, they do
- 46:53it with a different energy and I think it's the same for Boss.
- 46:55I think if we saw this live, it would change your mind.
- 46:58I think it would be a little bit more, a little bit higher, but
- 47:01we'll let you off, OK. I think, I think, I think
- 47:09there's much else to say about that.
- 47:10Shan, do you think we're all right for?
- 47:12Is that OK if we move? On from there.
- 47:14OK, just moving on then to oh, it's my favourite part.
- 47:19I'm so excited. That was 49, Shannon.
- 47:28If you don't give 90s another go, I don't think we can be best
- 47:30friends again. Like seriously, like you need,
- 47:34you need to listen to it again. I was genuinely listening in the
- 47:37car and I was like, how could she not write this song?
- 47:42I. Just.
- 47:44I missed the days of Ditch in school to watch The Goonies.
- 47:49So good, so good. I'm not saying lyrically it's
- 47:53not good, I'm just saying like. I gotta miss the 90s.
- 47:59It's just so good. I honestly, I can't.
- 48:01This is why I can't believe you don't like it.
- 48:06I'm angry. It makes me angry.
- 48:07I'm not even going to lie. I'm sorry, I'll give it another
- 48:10go. I don't think Matson's on the
- 48:12track. You're right.
- 48:13Actually, Ben, if he does, he's only backing because it's very
- 48:17James heavy. Meet you there.
- 48:19And the newer version, the Abbey Road version, they all share it
- 48:23out and it's so delicious. I'm going to listen.
- 48:28It's literally delicious. There is no other way to
- 48:30describe that version of that song.
- 48:31It is chef's kiss delicious. Anyway, shall we move on the
- 48:37next bit? For those of you that are a
- 48:39little bit younger, you probably won't appreciate this as much as
- 48:42the older people because this is Naughty's lost song.
- 48:45So we're going to be talking today about Eminem.
- 48:49I'm very excited. OK, you ready?
- 48:54Why introducing it again? Yeah, sorry.
- 48:57You took. Because it was me last week, so
- 48:59I've switched it all around so it's you.
- 49:02OK, right. Have you put your time stamp?
- 49:08Yes. Nice right?
- 49:13Time for naughties lost songs. And this week not lost because
- 49:19this song is permanently embedded in our brains.
- 49:29Are you stopping because it says both?
- 49:33I don't know what it's supposed to say at.
- 49:40The same time I don't know why lose.
- 49:43Yourself I. Don't know why, I don't know
- 49:50why. That's supposed to be you.
- 49:52I don't know why it says both. I'm very sorry.
- 49:54That's you saying that. OK, Shan.
- 50:00Shan, Shan, that's fine. Let's try again, shall we?
- 50:04Yeah, let me just put the timer 52, OK?
- 50:08Yeah. Right, it's time for naughties
- 50:16lost songs. And this week not lost, just
- 50:19permanently embedded in our brains.
- 50:23This week it's Lose Yourself by Eminem, and if you say you don't
- 50:27know every word, you're lying. You're.
- 50:29Lying because we were all out here aggressively wrapping this
- 50:34song in our bedrooms Like we have the same struggles as
- 50:36Eminem, right? Because I certainly did.
- 50:40Yeah, definitely. But meanwhile our actual biggest
- 50:42issue was our crush. Just like not replying to us on
- 50:45MSN or something. Is it dramatic?
- 50:48That's the most dramatic thing that happened to me when I was
- 50:5013. However, Speaking of crushes, I
- 50:54have a little confession to make about this.
- 50:58Oh no, Oh no, I. Had this.
- 51:03Is past tense OK? It's definitely not present
- 51:06tense. I had a very, very weird crush
- 51:09on Eminem back in the day. A very weird crush.
- 51:16I don't know why. I mean, I mean, I don't know.
- 51:19It's just not your generic, you know, teenage attractive kind of
- 51:25when you sort of think of being 16 and who you fancied at that
- 51:27age. You don't usually think of
- 51:29Eminem, but I did, apparently. I did.
- 51:35I don't know why. It was very intense.
- 51:36It was probably a bit concerning considering the age difference.
- 51:39However, I don't know. I don't know what it was about
- 51:43him. And we are speaking here like
- 51:45Eight Mile era Eminem. Can you remember Eight Mile?
- 51:49Like I loved Eight Mile. Yes.
- 51:51What a film. You know, when he had like the
- 51:55the relaxed blonde hair, not like the bleach blonde yellow
- 51:59that it turned into. Yeah.
- 52:01OK. But seriously, I spent a lot of
- 52:03my time wishing I was Brittany Murphy in that film because I
- 52:08loved him. Yeah, I've.
- 52:11I actually have a little fact about your husband and Eminem.
- 52:15Oh. Please, for the listen, please
- 52:17just delve into my fantasies, bring them together.
- 52:19I'm happy with it. I can bring the listeners, I
- 52:23don't. Know Taylor married my cousin,
- 52:27so I have these deep memories of her husband from my childhood.
- 52:33And Eminem plays a huge part. I'm not going to lie, when I
- 52:37think of the Curtain Call album, I think of your husband.
- 52:41Nice. I so for one Christmas my
- 52:46auntie, his mum bought me Curtain Call and we also bought
- 52:50him Curtain Call. And what we did was for weeks we
- 52:54would listen to this album, like constantly memorise it.
- 52:57And then we'd have a battle off. We would wrap the shit out of
- 53:05Eminem. And I tell you now, I probably
- 53:10still know all the lyrics. That's how hard I'm again.
- 53:13I'm telling you now, I'm getting a performance after this is
- 53:15finished recording, I'm going to go and you don't even.
- 53:18Have to ask me twice. I go full soldier.
- 53:24What's the song called? Tiny.
- 53:26I wouldn't say tiny Soldiers. Toy soldiers.
- 53:29Toy soldiers, See, I was a love. The way you lie.
- 53:32I'm not afraid. You're a kind of rapper when it
- 53:35comes to Eminem songs. However, I think my love for
- 53:39this song came from the Eight Mile soundtrack because that
- 53:42film lives deep in my soul. So like, I will never get sick
- 53:47of that film. I don't know what it is.
- 53:49I don't know what I love so much about it.
- 53:51I don't know why I want to be in a sweaty, tiny little club in
- 53:56Harlem somewhere watching Eminem, you know, choke on stage
- 54:00because I do. I want to be in that crowd.
- 54:02I'll probably, I'll probably end up like falling over and getting
- 54:04trampled because I'm not not ever set out for crowds.
- 54:08I love that, but I love that movie.
- 54:11So this song Lose Yourself came out on October 28th, 2002.
- 54:15So it was the year that Busted first came out.
- 54:18This song was released and it was critically acclaimed as the
- 54:24Anthem 4th movie Eight Mile, which was obviously amazing and
- 54:29obviously it was composed and written by Eminem as well.
- 54:32And little known fact, he actually recorded each verse in
- 54:37a single take. So he like each section of the
- 54:42song. He just recorded it once and
- 54:44that was it. He never did it again.
- 54:45He did it once. I mean, we don't even do that
- 54:47with this. That's so cool.
- 54:48We can't even do that with this. We can't even do that with this.
- 54:52So, you know, and obviously, no, we're not, but.
- 54:55Teenage me wanted to be. Teenage me wanted to be with
- 54:59Eminem on his face. I don't know what it is.
- 55:06I'm sorry. There's some sort of weird
- 55:08issues going on in my brain. Obviously.
- 55:11This song won Best Original Song 2003, and it won Grammy Awards
- 55:16for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance in 2004 as
- 55:20well. And as of 2018, which was eight
- 55:24years ago, 08 years ago, 2018, it certified 13 times platinum.
- 55:32How amazing is that? Wow, that was really cool.
- 55:34It's widely considered one of the greatest hip hop songs of
- 55:37all time, and it's famously referenced by the mom spaghetti
- 55:41meme. Have you seen that?
- 55:42Oh oh. Yeah, everywhere.
- 55:45Everywhere, obviously Eminem has some insane, insane songs, but I
- 55:52think this is definitely one of my favourites.
- 55:54Like when you think of Eminem, you think of this song.
- 55:57You think. Of this song, yeah, I if this
- 55:59song goes off in like club or, you know, anywhere like a party
- 56:04or anywhere where there's lots of people, every single person
- 56:08is at least singing the first person called the first bit.
- 56:12Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 56:14And when he starts singing the lose yourself, everybody's like.
- 56:18Yeah. What is this arm about?
- 56:20Like, what is this? Why do you do this?
- 56:22Yeah, like it's not a good luck. Sorry.
- 56:29It's. Especially not a good look for
- 56:30me because I'm like a healthy kid and I'm like dressed all in
- 56:34black but thinking I'm a gangster every time Eminem comes
- 56:38on. I'm literally like, not no, I
- 56:40can't. It's just so funny.
- 56:42And also the actual paper that Eminem wrote the lyrics on of
- 56:46this song appears in the film scene where in the.
- 56:50Film. Yeah.
- 56:50Where? He's writing on bus, so that's
- 56:53the actual piece of paper that he wrote the lyrics to Lose
- 56:55Yourself, that's. So cool.
- 56:57Oh, it's a nice like little cameo fact there.
- 57:01He's such a cool guy. He.
- 57:02Really is or something even now. And he's like, what is he now?
- 57:05Like nearly 50? He's got me nearly 50, right?
- 57:08Something like that. He's like the.
- 57:09Same age as my dad, maybe a little bit less.
- 57:14I think he's still, he's still got his, he's got that same sort
- 57:18of thing about himself, hasn't he?
- 57:20Like he's he holds the same like personality.
- 57:24And what's your what's your favourite Eminem song?
- 57:30I can tell you, but I don't know what it's called because all
- 57:34I've got in my head is lose yourself.
- 57:38Knees weak, arms are heavy. I'm in a sweater already.
- 57:42Mom's spaghetti. Hold on, I'm going to.
- 57:46I'm just writing the lyrics. Oh, I love that.
- 57:49I do that all the time. When you've got an earworm.
- 57:51Anybody else get that? When you get an earworm and
- 57:53you're like, and it annoys you all day because you don't know
- 57:55what it is and you're like, what is that song?
- 57:58I hate that. I hate that so much.
- 57:59I've got. It I've got it OK favourite song
- 58:03when I'm gone. And when I'm going to carry on,
- 58:07don't carry. On every time.
- 58:09You hear the sound of my voice. Just know that.
- 58:11See, I'm I'm a fan. Love that song so much.
- 58:15Have a. Have a strong memory, a very
- 58:18strong memory of when we were at university going to a karaoke
- 58:23pub kind of thing with Steve, old Steve, friend of the podcast
- 58:29Steve, Stevie T and a load of the year below us.
- 58:34They were all there and like a couple of our year and we were
- 58:37all drinking. It was all, you know, knees a
- 58:39bit of a knees up. I think it was someone's
- 58:41birthday and they were doing, they were doing karaoke and me
- 58:44and Steve signed up for Love The Way You Lie.
- 58:47Wow, that's awesome. However, however.
- 58:51I was Eminem and he was Rihanna. Oh, it's normally the other way
- 58:55round with us. Exactly.
- 58:57So Steve singing the the female vocals and me singing the rap
- 59:02and I'm telling you now, I've never seen anybody scream back
- 59:04more in my life. They were literally I was
- 59:06rapping. They were just going and I
- 59:11genuinely was like, I am so proud of myself right now.
- 59:15Like I have never, ever been so proud of myself rapping than I
- 59:19am in this moment. It felt like fame.
- 59:21It felt like everybody was just cheering me on.
- 59:24I was living the dream. So, yeah, love the way you lie.
- 59:27Obviously not afraid. You know that.
- 59:29We've played that one together. Big.
- 59:32Song I will. Say, can I just give like a
- 59:34little shout out to cleaning out my closet and back because it by
- 59:43the way, 10 out of 10 song fags shove a Jebel where where?
- 59:50Are you putting that? Through a what?
- 59:53Through a what? Where are you putting that,
- 59:55Jebel? What a song.
- 1:00:00Oh wow, yeah. I mean.
- 1:00:03Yeah, that's the kind of song you can imagine being on, like
- 1:00:06the soundtrack of like Borat or something.
- 1:00:09Yes, get. Stupid next.
- 1:00:11Time we go to a karaoke bar. I'm smacking out.
- 1:00:14FAC I'm smacking out. FAC I am not OK, can we also
