- 0:13Speaker 1: quick on the radio?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Sure.
- 0:15Speaker 1: The reason we wanted to call you is because your
- 0:18Speaker 1: daughter Morgan had reached out to us and you shared
- 0:21Speaker 1: that you are going through a really tough time. Do
- 0:24Speaker 1: you mind taking a minute to tell us what you've
- 0:27Speaker 1: been going through these last couple of months.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I was diagnosed with stage four cancer, colon cancer. It
- 0:34Speaker 2: went into my liver and found out it was pretty
- 0:38Speaker 2: much all over my cavity. Mm.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And when did you get this news, Wendy?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Oh geez, right before Thanksgiving?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. And up until that point had you
- 0:53Speaker 1: felt a little off? Was this a regular routine appointment
- 0:57Speaker 1: or what had happened?
- 0:59Speaker 2: I didn't feel nothing. There was nothing wrong with me.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And then I went out. We're kind of remodeling our home,
- 1:07Speaker 2: so my husband and I went out and got a
- 1:09Speaker 2: beam that was in our quantt outbuilding and I carried
- 1:14Speaker 2: it up with him. It's about nate foot beam, okay,
- 1:18Speaker 2: And I sat down and I'm like, h I didn't
- 1:23Speaker 2: really want to eat anything. So I had a few
- 1:25Speaker 2: bites of something and I told my husband. I said, well,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I'm just going to take a shower. And this was
- 1:28Speaker 2: in the morning, and so took a shower and before
- 1:34Speaker 2: I even finished, I had a really painful it's hard
- 1:40Speaker 2: to explain. I told my husband. I said, I'd rather
- 1:42Speaker 2: have twins and teeth pulled with this pain. And it
- 1:48Speaker 2: just stabby feeling, and I don't know, it was a
- 1:54Speaker 2: weird feeling. And I'm like, I couldn't talk, I couldn't walk.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And I got out of the shower and I looked
- 2:00Speaker 2: to my husband. I'm like, Hugh, I just pointed, got
- 2:03Speaker 2: to go. So went in and found out there is
- 2:10Speaker 2: pretty much a fist full of cancer in my liver.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, So Wendy you at this point, I
- 2:17Speaker 1: mean a million things, And I think women do this
- 2:20Speaker 1: all the time. You're going through your head, you're talking
- 2:22Speaker 1: yourself out of all the things you don't automatically go to.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It's something terrifying. When they told you this news, your
- 2:28Speaker 1: world had to have been crushed.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for everybody else but me, I'm like, nope,
- 2:35Speaker 2: you know what I'm gonna I'm fighting it. You'm gonna
- 2:37Speaker 2: fight it?
- 2:38Speaker 1: Well, of course you doing, Wendy. That is the energy
- 2:41Speaker 1: that you bring. And for people listening right now, they
- 2:43Speaker 1: might go her voice sounds familiar. You are the owner
- 2:46Speaker 1: and operator of Jazzy and Mumbos, which is a huge nonprofit,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and you you volunteer your time, you give back all
- 2:54Speaker 1: the time. You've done this for so many people and
- 2:57Speaker 1: our community, and it's just really important that you know
- 3:00Speaker 1: that people are thinking about you in this time.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I hope too, really hope.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I can only imagine also, Wendy, when you had kind
- 3:08Speaker 3: of mentioned for everyone else it might have been heartbreaking,
- 3:12Speaker 3: and for you you kind of just took this thing
- 3:15Speaker 3: head on. I know there's a lot of people who
- 3:17Speaker 3: you know, get news like this, and it's just really
- 3:20Speaker 3: you never the people around you, I think always are
- 3:23Speaker 3: a little more sad, frightened, heartbroken than maybe you yourself.
- 3:27Speaker 3: What was that like, kind of having to share that
- 3:30Speaker 3: news with other people and how did you go about
- 3:32Speaker 3: doing that?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Well? I have my family that spread it all out
- 3:36Speaker 2: for me anything, And.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You know I should tell you because that is something
- 3:42Speaker 1: when you're used to giving back to people. I think
- 3:44Speaker 1: one of the hardest things is asking for help, and
- 3:46Speaker 1: that is something that is so hard for so many.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But you do have a wonderful family. How many kids
- 3:51Speaker 1: do you have?
- 3:52Speaker 2: I have three kids and five grandkids and one on
- 3:55Speaker 2: the way, so I'll have six in a few months.
- 4:00Speaker 1: So and they took the news hard, yep, harder.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Than I did.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Let's talk about your next steps.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Well, I've already done one infusion. Okay, I go back
- 4:13Speaker 2: in uh it's a week next Tuesday, I go back
- 4:17Speaker 2: and for the second they gave me two years to live.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And you know what, that's just that's a prediction.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And you exactly, you know, coactly, I'm like, nope, nope,
- 4:29Speaker 2: not doing it.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Oh gosh. And that attitude, for sure.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I have too much to live for for for that diagnosis.
- 4:38Speaker 1: You're going to fight. That's what we do, yep, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: And that's it. Take it day by day. I know,
- 4:44Speaker 1: before Thanksgiving hearing this news. There's never a good time
- 4:48Speaker 1: for any of this. But it's just got to be
- 4:50Speaker 1: sitting there in the back of your mind going through
- 4:52Speaker 1: the holidays when you have a beautiful family and all
- 4:55Speaker 1: you want to do is celebrate this joyous season, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: we want to give you thanks to your Morgan for
- 5:00Speaker 1: sharing this story, and our friends at Gateway Chevrolet and
- 5:03Speaker 1: Heartland Chevy Dealers, and of course big Christmas wish. We
- 5:06Speaker 1: want to give you a check for one thousand dollars
- 5:08Speaker 1: to spend however you want to just make the holidays
- 5:12Speaker 1: a little brighter.
