- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfake, go to roll right, jumps it off
- 0:07Speaker 1: into the right class to Michael Bumpas, who bounces off
- 0:09Speaker 1: on one tackler gets inside the forty down of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: thirty five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com, Matt
- 0:15Speaker 1: pump fakes looking at the goal line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 1: into the end zone. Touchdown. Sayhawks, it's Michael Bumpus with
- 0:21Speaker 1: a diving catch in the end zone. Ten yard touchdown
- 0:25Speaker 1: reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:28Speaker 1: has found himself a place on this team. Now here's
- 0:31Speaker 1: your host, NASA Chubby. Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The Seahawks are back at home taking on the Atlanta
- 0:38Speaker 1: Falcons this Sunday at Looming Field. Open to get over
- 0:41Speaker 1: the loss of the forty nine ers last week. The
- 0:43Speaker 1: Seahawks are one in one trying to shed what happened
- 0:45Speaker 1: last week. It's a brand new week. We're excited here
- 0:48Speaker 1: at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. I'll move my guy,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Michael Bumps and we're gonna talking about those Falcons with
- 0:54Speaker 1: what's on tap what's on tap? Falcons coming into town
- 1:01Speaker 1: this week in O and two record last place in
- 1:03Speaker 1: the NFC South. But these Falcons have played some pretty
- 1:06Speaker 1: good football. It's been kind of a weird season for them. Yes,
- 1:09Speaker 1: they are o and two, but they have lost both
- 1:11Speaker 1: of their games by combined of five points. They blew
- 1:13Speaker 1: a sixteen point fourth quarter lead to the Saints in
- 1:16Speaker 1: Week one. Last week, they were getting blown out by
- 1:18Speaker 1: the Rams twenty eight to three, made a crazy comeback
- 1:21Speaker 1: down their Sofi Stadium and unfortunately fell short for them. Bump.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It was pretty wild to see from from that standpoint.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I saw twenty eight to three, yeah, and I was hoping.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I was like, hey man, maybe they're about to get
- 1:31Speaker 1: their redemption right here, you know what I'm saying. That
- 1:34Speaker 1: was not the case. They kind of flipped the switch
- 1:36Speaker 1: in the second half, bringing into within one score. Unfortunately,
- 1:39Speaker 1: their comeback bid fell short when Jalen Ramsey picked off
- 1:42Speaker 1: a potential go ahead touchdown in the end zone, allowing
- 1:45Speaker 1: the Rams to hold on for a thirty one twenty
- 1:47Speaker 1: seven victory. Comeback was led by Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota,
- 1:51Speaker 1: who had a pretty good second half with two touchdowns
- 1:54Speaker 1: special teams got involved blocking a punt that they were
- 1:56Speaker 1: turned for a touchdown, and then they also converted on
- 2:00Speaker 1: two point conversion to make it a one score game. Now,
- 2:03Speaker 1: bump it was. It's a different kind of Falcons team
- 2:06Speaker 1: right now, right, so they turned the table. Matt Ryan
- 2:08Speaker 1: is no longer there, Marcus mariotas is in town. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: what do you see from them against the Falcons? I
- 2:15Speaker 1: saw a resilient team. I saw a team that is
- 2:17Speaker 1: going to fight. He was gonna stay in the fight. Right,
- 2:19Speaker 1: you talk about them being down twenty eight to three.
- 2:21Speaker 1: A lot of teams would have melded in and say,
- 2:23Speaker 1: all right, we're done. Ended up losing thirty one and
- 2:25Speaker 1: twenty seven. Mariota there was a pig Ramsey reminds you
- 2:28Speaker 1: that he is him apparently after making that pick. And
- 2:31Speaker 1: then you talked about the special teams man, this was
- 2:34Speaker 1: this is a team that has some young talent. Right
- 2:36Speaker 1: you talk about Mariota the veteran, All right, he's the
- 2:38Speaker 1: quarterback back there. But still guy Drake London, a young
- 2:40Speaker 1: receiver out of the Pack twelve, Pack twelve Offensive Player
- 2:43Speaker 1: of the Year. You still have Pits, the tight end
- 2:46Speaker 1: slash receiver over there and Patterson who just seems to
- 2:48Speaker 1: never go away. This guy's played receiver, running backs, in
- 2:51Speaker 1: the return game. If you need a big play, you
- 2:53Speaker 1: can lean on this guy. So offensively, I see a
- 2:55Speaker 1: team that can get it done. They're averaging about twenty
- 2:57Speaker 1: six points per game, so they will put some weights
- 3:00Speaker 1: up and they're okay running the football. We'll talk more
- 3:02Speaker 1: about that in the head to head matches, but I
- 3:04Speaker 1: say a team that's capable, a team that you cannot
- 3:06Speaker 1: sleep one, a team that will put up a fight.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And we're in no room to talk right one to
- 3:12Speaker 1: one coming into the season. You don't sleep on anybody.
- 3:14Speaker 1: You can't sleep on the Falcons, no question about it.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Like you mentioned all those talented players that they have
- 3:18Speaker 1: on their roster. It's kind of a new it's kind
- 3:21Speaker 1: of a new Arthur Smith is in his second year
- 3:23Speaker 1: as a head coach and he's really trying to turn
- 3:24Speaker 1: over a new leaf because the Falcons, after losing the
- 3:26Speaker 1: Super Bowl going to the playoffs the next year, have
- 3:29Speaker 1: been struggling since then. So they got some pieces. They've
- 3:31Speaker 1: had a lot of draft pick because they've struggled the
- 3:33Speaker 1: last couple of years. So they're definitely trying to turn
- 3:35Speaker 1: the page over and set a new foundation there in Atlanta.
- 3:38Speaker 1: When we look at the head to head comparison, this
- 3:40Speaker 1: is probably the last week where we're still kind of
- 3:42Speaker 1: waiting and seeing we're gonna look at the numbers. But
- 3:45Speaker 1: moving forward, these numbers are going to mean a lot more.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But when you look at it, last week was tough
- 3:50Speaker 1: for the Seahawks. Obviously offensively mean you don't score touchdown,
- 3:52Speaker 1: that's gonna drop you in a lot of the rankings.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Total offensive Seahawks come in at thirty one going two
- 3:58Speaker 1: hundred and thirty five yards per game rush offense, or
- 4:01Speaker 1: at thirty two or only rushing for sixty fifty six
- 4:04Speaker 1: yards pass offense twenty seventh, one hundred and seventy eight
- 4:07Speaker 1: yards a game. And then points per game twelve points
- 4:10Speaker 1: per game. That ranks them twenty ninth overall. And honestly,
- 4:12Speaker 1: bump these numbers just went in the tank after last week. Yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 1: when you know it's scoring offensive touchdown, that's what's gonna happen.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And when you only have a sample size of two games,
- 4:19Speaker 1: not great. But when you compare it to the other side,
- 4:22Speaker 1: the Falcons a little bit better. You know their nineteenth
- 4:24Speaker 1: overall in total offense can going in three hundred and
- 4:27Speaker 1: thirty eight yards per game, seventh in rush offense one
- 4:29Speaker 1: hundred and forty five yards per game, in twenty second
- 4:31Speaker 1: in the pass offense at one ninety three, and they're
- 4:34Speaker 1: scoring twenty six points per game, Like you mentioned earlier,
- 4:37Speaker 1: someone comparable. Obviously they're putting up a little bit more points,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but when you look at those head to head matchups,
- 4:42Speaker 1: you know, obviously the Seahawks are hoping they can really
- 4:44Speaker 1: improve a lot of those numbers given what happened last weekend,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and obviously scoring points will help you do that. But
- 4:49Speaker 1: they're pretty comparable. Obviously Seaws are a little lower right now,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but through two weeks they haven't lit the world on
- 4:54Speaker 1: fire the Falcons. So I think this will be a
- 4:56Speaker 1: closer matchup. We look at it on Sunday, Yeah, it
- 4:59Speaker 1: should be a close up. You're looking at these numbers,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and if you're the Falcons, you're gonna embrace them a bit, like, yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 1: we're number nine when it comes to points, score number seven,
- 5:05Speaker 1: run of the football one hundred and forty five yards,
- 5:07Speaker 1: And if you're the Seahawks, you're like, okay, let's not
- 5:09Speaker 1: pay attention. It's two weeks, Sam. There's some things that
- 5:11Speaker 1: we have to figure out. You look at the defensive numbers,
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Falcons are ranked twentieth given up three hundred sixty
- 5:17Speaker 1: one yards per game. The Hawks are twenty fourth given
- 5:19Speaker 1: up four oh three. A stat that sticks out to
- 5:22Speaker 1: me the most really is the possession time of possession.
- 5:25Speaker 1: This is something that the Hawks have struggled with so
- 5:26Speaker 1: far this year, something that I think they can fix
- 5:28Speaker 1: once they get that run game going. The Hawks have
- 5:30Speaker 1: possessed the ball in an average of twenty four minutes
- 5:32Speaker 1: per game and the Falcons thirty one minutes per game.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I don't think you look at the stats. I think
- 5:37Speaker 1: you look at the matchups and I we've mentioned some
- 5:39Speaker 1: of the guys on offense for the Falcons, and you
- 5:41Speaker 1: know that this defense is figuring some things out. They're
- 5:44Speaker 1: coming off of a tough week against the forty nine
- 5:46Speaker 1: ers where they were pushing around a little bit, so
- 5:48Speaker 1: I know these guys are looking to bounce back. Look
- 5:51Speaker 1: at the stat leaders. The leading rusher for the Seattle
- 5:54Speaker 1: Seahawks should be with Shot Penny and he is seventy
- 5:56Speaker 1: five yards this year so far. Patterson has one hundred
- 5:59Speaker 1: and sixty one yards for the Falcons, throwing the football
- 6:02Speaker 1: genos having in a fishing year man completing eighty percent
- 6:04Speaker 1: of his passes. Marcus Mariota leads over there and then
- 6:08Speaker 1: at the receiver spot. Drake London, the rookie receiver at
- 6:11Speaker 1: a USC, has thirteen catches four hundred and sixty yards.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Title Lockett has twelve or one thirty five. Had one
- 6:16Speaker 1: hundred yard game last week against the forty niners. You
- 6:20Speaker 1: look at these teams, anybody can get it. It's up
- 6:23Speaker 1: in the air for Gras and hopefully the Seahawks come
- 6:25Speaker 1: down with it. Absolutely Now, these teams have played each
- 6:28Speaker 1: other a decent amount over the last couple of years.
- 6:30Speaker 1: It's time to know our history, no your history. Seahawks
- 6:35Speaker 1: lead the all time series and the regular season twelve
- 6:37Speaker 1: to eight. We're not going to talk about the two
- 6:38Speaker 1: postseason meetings because those are still touchy subjects years and
- 6:41Speaker 1: years later. The last meeting was good for the Seahawks.
- 6:44Speaker 1: They opened up that weird twenty twenty COVID season with
- 6:47Speaker 1: a thirty eight twenty five victory on the road. If
- 6:49Speaker 1: you guys remember Russell at a great day, he was
- 6:51Speaker 1: thirty one to thirty five three hundred twenty two yards,
- 6:53Speaker 1: four touchdowns. Lockett Metcalf combined for twelve receptions, one hundred
- 6:57Speaker 1: and eighty seven yards and a touchdown. Chris Carr had
- 7:00Speaker 1: two reception touchdowns, and Greg Olsen got his only touchdown
- 7:03Speaker 1: as the Seahawk. And the thing about that game that
- 7:06Speaker 1: jumps out to me. Obviously the offensive numbers were great,
- 7:08Speaker 1: but it was what we expected to see from Jamal Adams.
- 7:12Speaker 1: He exploded on the scene his first career game of
- 7:14Speaker 1: Seahawks Twelve tackles, two TFLs, two quarterback hits, one sack
- 7:18Speaker 1: and it man looking back and I thinking about it
- 7:20Speaker 1: just made me sad. Man, it just made me sad
- 7:22Speaker 1: because Jamal Adams, despite what some people want to say
- 7:25Speaker 1: as a hell of a a football player in the Seahawks
- 7:27Speaker 1: are in a lot worse position without him. I think
- 7:30Speaker 1: this defense was gonna play right up his alley and
- 7:33Speaker 1: how he plays football, it's really tough to see. And
- 7:35Speaker 1: so shout out to Jamal Adams. I think he had
- 7:37Speaker 1: surgery this week, so hopefully he's on the up and
- 7:39Speaker 1: up and hoping we get to see him back next
- 7:41Speaker 1: year doing his thing. But that's a little bit of
- 7:44Speaker 1: a history now, tiding to figure out what's going on
- 7:46Speaker 1: in the West. What's the word? And the Seahawks were
- 7:53Speaker 1: the NFC West champs. Again, what's the word in the West?
- 7:58Speaker 1: On hawk talk? All right, let's take a look at
- 8:01Speaker 1: the NFC West. The Seattle Seahawks are one on one,
- 8:03Speaker 1: the Rams one on one, Cardinals one on one, nine
- 8:06Speaker 1: Ers one on one. It's all knotted up at first week, Man,
- 8:09Speaker 1: it looked beautiful for the forty nine excuse me, the Seahawks.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But then they play the forty nine Ers, they take
- 8:13Speaker 1: an elm. The Rams beat the Falcons. The Cardinals get
- 8:16Speaker 1: a big win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Let's talk
- 8:19Speaker 1: about that women. The Cardinals, man hey, got beat up
- 8:22Speaker 1: that very first week, forty four to twenty two against
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs. There's a lot of questions going on.
- 8:27Speaker 1: How is Kyler Murray in this office going to respond?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Week two, it does not look good for the Cardinals. Initially,
- 8:33Speaker 1: they go on a halftime down twenty to zero. At
- 8:35Speaker 1: one point they were down twenty three to seven with
- 8:38Speaker 1: less than nine minutes remaining. Than Kyler Murray has two
- 8:41Speaker 1: drives where at least for a touchdown, also converting on
- 8:44Speaker 1: two point conversion attempts. And then there's just one player
- 8:46Speaker 1: where this man is scrambling left, he's scrambling right. He
- 8:49Speaker 1: looks like he's playing on the video game. He gets
- 8:51Speaker 1: all the way to the left, runs it in for
- 8:53Speaker 1: a touchdown, run about seven to eighty yards in that process,
- 8:56Speaker 1: at least it seemed like so. Then they get into
- 8:57Speaker 1: overtime and the Raiders start the Cardinals on the open
- 9:00Speaker 1: and drive. But Hunter Renfro, the sure handed slot receiver man,
- 9:06Speaker 1: coughs it up and guests who picks it up for
- 9:08Speaker 1: the scoop and score UDUB standout Former UDUB standout Byner
- 9:13Speaker 1: Murphy ran it back for fifty nine yard touchdown winning touchdown,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and Kyla Murray he did it all for the Cardinals.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Man thirty one to forty nine, two hundred and seventy
- 9:20Speaker 1: seven yards, one touchdown, one interception, had twenty yard rushing
- 9:24Speaker 1: on five carries and a touchdown. Zach Ertz to let
- 9:27Speaker 1: all Cardinals receivers with eight receptions for seventy five yards.
- 9:30Speaker 1: This was an emotional win for these guys. The Cardinals
- 9:33Speaker 1: knew they needed this. You see the celebration of Kyler
- 9:36Speaker 1: Murray after the game. I didn't realize his fro was
- 9:38Speaker 1: that big cops the helmet off. He runs to the
- 9:40Speaker 1: end zone. Apparently he thinks he gets smacked by Raiders fan.
- 9:43Speaker 1: If you look at the film, I think the man
- 9:46Speaker 1: was trying to slap him on his shoulder pads ends
- 9:48Speaker 1: up smacking Calamur in the face. Nonetheless, an emotional win
- 9:51Speaker 1: for these guys, and they held Avante Adams right. Only
- 9:55Speaker 1: had two receptions on seven targets for twelve yards and
- 9:58Speaker 1: one touchdown for the Cardinals. Yeah, on the Raiders side,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you just you look at that and you say that
- 10:04Speaker 1: can never happen again. Not only be paying this man
- 10:07Speaker 1: too much money. He's one of the best receivers in
- 10:09Speaker 1: the Nashville Bay League. That can never happen again. He
- 10:11Speaker 1: can never have just two receptions on seven targets. But
- 10:13Speaker 1: you mentioned it. The Cardinals, man, they needed that one,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and you could tell you right the emotion on the sideline,
- 10:18Speaker 1: everyone running down Chason Murphy. It was huge for them
- 10:21Speaker 1: because they were getting smacked again. And if that game
- 10:23Speaker 1: ended the way it was going, there's a lot of doubt.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Now you're owing two and two blowout losses. So things
- 10:29Speaker 1: definitely turned out well at the end for the Cardinals
- 10:31Speaker 1: and head coach Cliff Kingsbury because if you talk about
- 10:34Speaker 1: another fourth quarter of collapse, I would have been devastating
- 10:36Speaker 1: for them. And Kyler. You know, the end of that
- 10:40Speaker 1: game shows you what he can be. Just the elusive,
- 10:44Speaker 1: the running, the scrambling, and just the playmaking ability. That's
- 10:47Speaker 1: what he can do. So we'll obviously get our chance
- 10:50Speaker 1: to see them later in the year. Unfortunately for us,
- 10:52Speaker 1: we're watching that, we're doing our postgame show. We're hoping, okay,
- 10:54Speaker 1: well we lost, but you know, the Cardinals rights and
- 10:59Speaker 1: the Falcons would come back. We thought things were gonna
- 11:01Speaker 1: come up Seahawks again and unfortunately did not. So we'll
- 11:04Speaker 1: see the divisions all nodded up one and one. So
- 11:07Speaker 1: it's time now for the Seahawks get back on that
- 11:09Speaker 1: winning track. So we'll turn it back to the Falcons.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Time to man up, is this missus? Man up on
- 11:21Speaker 1: Hawk Talk? All right, take a look at the quarterbacks
- 11:25Speaker 1: like we always do every week, this time we looking
- 11:27Speaker 1: at Marcus Mariota taking on the Seahawks defense. Marcus Mariota
- 11:31Speaker 1: from the Pacific Northwest. If you're around you're familiar. You
- 11:34Speaker 1: know that he had a lot of success, winning the
- 11:36Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy at Oregon, and he's once again a starter
- 11:39Speaker 1: in the National Football League. He was drafted second overall
- 11:41Speaker 1: in twenty fifteen to the Titans. He was a starter
- 11:44Speaker 1: from twenty fifteen all the way up into Week seven
- 11:47Speaker 1: of the twenty nineteen season, where he was replaced by
- 11:49Speaker 1: Ryan Tannehill. At the time, you know, I didn't think
- 11:52Speaker 1: that was gonna come of anything, and then obviously tanna
- 11:54Speaker 1: Hill catches fire. They go all the way the AFC
- 11:56Speaker 1: Championship Game, eventually losing to the Chiefs. But that was
- 11:59Speaker 1: the last time we really sal Marcus Mariota and what
- 12:01Speaker 1: we know about him. He's a quiet guy. He kind
- 12:03Speaker 1: of is a good teammate, doesn't say a lot After that,
- 12:06Speaker 1: played two years in Vegas behind Derek Carr and then
- 12:10Speaker 1: with Matt Ryan leading for Indie. Marcus Mariota is finally
- 12:12Speaker 1: getting his shot again to be a starter and trying
- 12:14Speaker 1: to get back to where he was in twenty sixteen,
- 12:16Speaker 1: which is really the best year of his career, where
- 12:18Speaker 1: he threw for three thousand, four hundred twenty six yards
- 12:20Speaker 1: twenty six touchdowns only nine interceptions this year, He's thirty
- 12:25Speaker 1: seven to fifty nine for four hundred and eleven yards,
- 12:27Speaker 1: two touchdowns, tune receptions eighteen carries eighty eight yards in
- 12:31Speaker 1: one touchdown. And what I see for Marcus is he's
- 12:34Speaker 1: still an athlete. Even though he's a little getting a
- 12:36Speaker 1: little bit up there in age, he can still run.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I know that one play where he falls down on
- 12:40Speaker 1: fourth down, gets up, spins around, completes the ball to
- 12:42Speaker 1: the flat to the tight end, gets the first down
- 12:44Speaker 1: against the Rams. So he's definitely a guy that can
- 12:46Speaker 1: still hurt you offensively. He is also a guy that
- 12:50Speaker 1: will occasionally turn the ball over. He's fumbled in the past,
- 12:53Speaker 1: He's had two interceptions on the year. But he's definitely
- 12:56Speaker 1: not someone you can take lightly. You know he's In
- 12:59Speaker 1: terms of a playing perspective, I wouldn't say it's the
- 13:02Speaker 1: same as what the Seahawks had going in against Trey
- 13:04Speaker 1: Lance last week, because Marcus Mariota can do a lot
- 13:06Speaker 1: better things of his arm. But honestly, I think he's
- 13:09Speaker 1: a guy that can really help them as this transition,
- 13:12Speaker 1: right because they draft Desmond Ridder and everyone's kind of
- 13:15Speaker 1: thinking doesn't Ridder is going to be the guy. I
- 13:17Speaker 1: think Mariota is a perfect guy to help this transition,
- 13:20Speaker 1: and if he keeps playing well, maybe he starts for longer.
- 13:22Speaker 1: What have you seen for Marcus? I see a guy
- 13:23Speaker 1: who can run an offense, a guy who's a leader
- 13:26Speaker 1: and who can extend some plays. You mentioned that play
- 13:28Speaker 1: on fourth down where he falls down, gets stuff, flick
- 13:30Speaker 1: at a risk, Boom gets that first down. This is
- 13:33Speaker 1: the perfect guy you need to kind of mentor a
- 13:35Speaker 1: guy like Desmond Ridder. You don't want to throw him
- 13:37Speaker 1: into the fire. I think the NFL these days, they're
- 13:39Speaker 1: so obsessed with finding this the next phenom and throwing
- 13:42Speaker 1: him in the fire right now that you can ruin
- 13:44Speaker 1: a guy. So I like the move by acquiringent Marcus Mariota.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I think he's Yeah, he's good enough to keep you
- 13:51Speaker 1: competitive and not bad enough to where you just have
- 13:55Speaker 1: to blow the whole thing up. Right, there's talent around him.
- 13:57Speaker 1: He doesn't have to win games for you, So we'll
- 14:00Speaker 1: see what he does. Hope he doesn't ball out this
- 14:01Speaker 1: week though. Next matchup Gino Smith versus the Falcons defense.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Here's the thing about Gino all right, offense hadn't scored
- 14:08Speaker 1: in six quarters, but he's still doing his job. Essentially,
- 14:11Speaker 1: twenty four or thirty eighty percent for one ninety seven
- 14:15Speaker 1: against the forty niners. On the season, he's forty seven
- 14:18Speaker 1: to fifty eight, three hundred ninety two yards with two
- 14:20Speaker 1: touchdowns and one interceptions. All Right, Geno's eighty one percent
- 14:23Speaker 1: completion percentage on the season is number one in the NFL.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Now the people are gonna say, well, all he's doing
- 14:30Speaker 1: is stowing checkdowns and short stuff, and I say to them,
- 14:34Speaker 1: he's taking care of the football. Right. Eventually they're gonna
- 14:36Speaker 1: open up this offense for him. And Pete Carroll talks
- 14:39Speaker 1: about that in this clip here, after two weeks of
- 14:41Speaker 1: watching Gino play. We need to We don't need to
- 14:44Speaker 1: hold him back at all. I think Gino's got his
- 14:46Speaker 1: game ready to go. We need to trust him and
- 14:48Speaker 1: we need to let him, you know, have maybe give
- 14:51Speaker 1: him a few more opportunities and stuff. We were we've
- 14:53Speaker 1: been pretty pretty solidly conservative counting them running the football.
- 14:56Speaker 1: One we didn't run the football, then, okay, we didn't
- 14:58Speaker 1: have much of a mix that we need. So we
- 15:00Speaker 1: can do better with that. And uh, you know, whether
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's that's right or wrong, you know, like you know,
- 15:06Speaker 1: that's not the point. The point is that we need
- 15:08Speaker 1: to keep expanding if we have too many explosive avenues
- 15:10Speaker 1: to go to, and we gotta make sure that these
- 15:12Speaker 1: guys show up. Now, it's right, Pete, open it up, baby,
- 15:14Speaker 1: let's go. You got DK, you got sixteen over there,
- 15:17Speaker 1: you got your tight ends who've been involved in these guys.
- 15:19Speaker 1: The Falcons are twenty second against the past, allowing two
- 15:22Speaker 1: fifty three right up Gino's alley overall, the twentieth on defense,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and then against the run they are fifteenth in line
- 15:29Speaker 1: one away. I'm saying, look, it's time for Penny to
- 15:32Speaker 1: go for a hunt and it's time for DK to
- 15:34Speaker 1: get his Let's go get it. Okay, well, let's let's
- 15:37Speaker 1: if you're putting on the offensive coordinator, how you're putting
- 15:39Speaker 1: on the headset? What does that mean to open up
- 15:41Speaker 1: the offense for Gino? Is it? Do you feel like
- 15:43Speaker 1: it's been conservative in terms of what they're asking him
- 15:45Speaker 1: to do? How do they open up that offense? What
- 15:47Speaker 1: does that entail? Open up means that you won your
- 15:51Speaker 1: design plays for Gino? Mean? Excuse me four, DK? There
- 15:54Speaker 1: have been instance last week where I saw a three
- 15:56Speaker 1: by one DC is on the one receiver side by himself,
- 15:59Speaker 1: the corners playing six seven yards off out of while
- 16:02Speaker 1: to throw a hit. She's getting the ball right now,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and then don't be afraid to throw the fifty fifty footballs.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I think Gino his gift is that he's going to
- 16:08Speaker 1: be responsible with the football. But then it hurts him
- 16:11Speaker 1: when he comes to DCA at times because he's big
- 16:13Speaker 1: enough and good enough to where if he has a
- 16:15Speaker 1: half a step on a guy he's opened, throw it
- 16:17Speaker 1: to him, let him go. So I think once Gino
- 16:19Speaker 1: gets the green light, which it sounds like he's gonna
- 16:21Speaker 1: get you here peek Caro talking about that, he'll take
- 16:24Speaker 1: more risks down the field. Now we start turning the
- 16:26Speaker 1: ball over a bunch, then okay, obviously got a rill
- 16:28Speaker 1: it back in, but we got a talent like fourteen man,
- 16:31Speaker 1: open it up, throw it to him. And I know
- 16:33Speaker 1: Shane has been watching a lot of them. He's got
- 16:35Speaker 1: two weeks to kind of figure out what's going on
- 16:38Speaker 1: with his offense. He'll find a way to get fourteen
- 16:40Speaker 1: the ball. I'm hoping so because Gino, Gino shown he
- 16:43Speaker 1: could do it. In the fact, the crazy thing about
- 16:45Speaker 1: some of his completion percentage numbers. I saw something the
- 16:47Speaker 1: other day. He's set in NFL records, right, I mean Gino.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It's when I saw this, I had a double check
- 16:53Speaker 1: before it came out. I was like, that's not right.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Gino is the first player with an eighty plus completion
- 16:58Speaker 1: percentage and with at least ten attempts in three consecutive
- 17:02Speaker 1: games in NFL history. So it's been two games this year,
- 17:05Speaker 1: going back to how well he did in the Jacksonville
- 17:06Speaker 1: game last year, So Gino was capable, he can do it.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I'm really excited to see what this offense gonna look
- 17:11Speaker 1: like a little bit more opened up now. Flipping back
- 17:13Speaker 1: to the Falcons looking at Cordell Patterson versus Seahawks front seven. Now,
- 17:18Speaker 1: Cordel Patterson has had a kind of a journey in
- 17:20Speaker 1: the National Football League, spending time in Minnesota, Oakland, New England, Chicago,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and Atlanta. So last season he had a really productive,
- 17:27Speaker 1: probably the best season of his career. Six hundred and
- 17:29Speaker 1: eighteen rush yards, one hundred fifty three carries, six touchdowns,
- 17:32Speaker 1: five hundred and forty eight receiving yards on fifty two receptions,
- 17:35Speaker 1: and five touchdowns but before he got there, he played
- 17:40Speaker 1: his first eight years as a receiver. Essentially, he's a
- 17:42Speaker 1: former first round pick. Never really panned out as a lightout.
- 17:45Speaker 1: He had never broken the five hundred yard receiving mark
- 17:48Speaker 1: in his career. A lot of people kind of labeled
- 17:51Speaker 1: him as a bust, even though my man was a
- 17:53Speaker 1: Pro Bowl, All Pro returner, like clearly an athlete, clearly
- 17:57Speaker 1: doing things in the return game. But in twenty eighteen,
- 18:00Speaker 1: he was in New England, they had a ton of
- 18:01Speaker 1: injuries running back. Bill Belichick was kind of the first
- 18:03Speaker 1: coach and be like, no, let's put him back from
- 18:05Speaker 1: the backfield as a primary back. And then he goes
- 18:08Speaker 1: to Atlanta and Atlanta has a couple of injuries too,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and now he's just kind of the do it all dude.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of why when you first see
- 18:14Speaker 1: that number, you go eighty four and running back. Okay,
- 18:17Speaker 1: but he's a hybrid and he's just a dangerous football player.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And I think he's he's a guy that you can't
- 18:22Speaker 1: can't let get loose because he can hurt you receiving,
- 18:25Speaker 1: running in the return game. He's definitely a guy who
- 18:27Speaker 1: watch this weekend. He is the new type of athlete.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But he's an older statesman at the same time, you
- 18:34Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like, imagine if he were a
- 18:36Speaker 1: first second year guy in today's game. I know, eight nine,
- 18:40Speaker 1: ten years isn't very long in human years, but in
- 18:43Speaker 1: football years, the game changes. So he's a big play guy.
- 18:46Speaker 1: If you let him get loose, he will get those
- 18:48Speaker 1: knees up, through the duces up and score touchdown. So
- 18:51Speaker 1: you gotta be sure tacklers this year against number eighty four.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm excited to see what he can do. All right,
- 18:56Speaker 1: the next match we're gonna look at this is Teriq
- 18:58Speaker 1: Willen and Mike Jackson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts. And you
- 19:02Speaker 1: say that last name because I don't want to jack
- 19:04Speaker 1: it up. Oh, elam Zakis. I don't know Lamaday Zakis. Sorry,
- 19:09Speaker 1: that's what we're gonna call it. Elamaday are bad if
- 19:12Speaker 1: we are misspronounce your name. A're pretty sure we are.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But all right, this is what they're going up against.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I mentioned Drake London. He was a number eight pick
- 19:18Speaker 1: in the two twenty twenty two drift from USC two
- 19:22Speaker 1: games for the Falcons. This guy's been doing the sting
- 19:25Speaker 1: thirteen receptions one hundred and sixty yards one touchdown. His
- 19:27Speaker 1: senior year at USC, he had eighty eight receptions for
- 19:30Speaker 1: a thousand and eighty four and seven touchdowns. I've seen
- 19:32Speaker 1: this guy live. I cover covered him for the PAC
- 19:35Speaker 1: twelve network against Colorado. Tore him up. Not the fastest guy,
- 19:39Speaker 1: fast enough to get by you, quick enough to movie.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Former basketball player played hoops at USC. Will go up
- 19:44Speaker 1: and grab that thing out the air. Kyle Pitts had
- 19:47Speaker 1: a good rookie season, only one touchdown, but he still
- 19:49Speaker 1: went for over a thousand yards on sixty eight receptions.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So far this year he has four recesson for thirty
- 19:54Speaker 1: eight yards. This guy causes matchup issues because he's labeled
- 19:58Speaker 1: as a tight end. If you just look at him,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I think you would guess that he is a receiver.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But they will line them up tight. They will split
- 20:04Speaker 1: him outside, always looking for the matchups there. All right, now, Alambada,
- 20:09Speaker 1: sorry again if we're saying that you're a name wrong.
- 20:11Speaker 1: All right. He's emerged as another thread with Russell moving
- 20:15Speaker 1: on in twenty twenty one, yet thirty one receptions for
- 20:17Speaker 1: four hundred and six yards three touchdowns so far they
- 20:20Speaker 1: year six receptions for seventy and a touchdown. They got
- 20:24Speaker 1: three receivers who can get it done next ye and
- 20:27Speaker 1: we have some youth, even though Mike Jackson this is
- 20:30Speaker 1: fourth year in the league, first real time being a starter.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Other side, you got Tarik Willing, first time in the league.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Tarik has struggled a bit and when it comes to penalties,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but he's also won a full game where there were
- 20:41Speaker 1: no receptions on them. So these guys are growing and
- 20:43Speaker 1: they're gonna have to grow pretty fast against these dudes. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 1: no question about it. I think it's like the young
- 20:48Speaker 1: youth youth a little bit there between Pitts and London
- 20:51Speaker 1: and then Tariq and Michael Jackson. Very impressed what I've
- 20:55Speaker 1: seen from the Falcons and if they can get their
- 20:58Speaker 1: quarterback situation figure out. They've had a lot of draft picks,
- 21:02Speaker 1: They've had a lot of early guys. Kyle Pitts, I
- 21:04Speaker 1: think it was fourth overall. London was top ten, you
- 21:06Speaker 1: know what I mean. So they have guys that some
- 21:08Speaker 1: youth in there that can really play. So the young
- 21:10Speaker 1: guys on our side are gonna have their their hands full.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Mentioned a trick Will and he's been targeted seven times
- 21:15Speaker 1: a lot, three receptions for thirty eight yards, passerating loud
- 21:18Speaker 1: only fifty eight point nine and Michael Jackson just play
- 21:21Speaker 1: maker man. That's what he does. He is a magnet
- 21:22Speaker 1: for the football. It's the right place at the right time,
- 21:25Speaker 1: two critical FuMB recoveries and he returns the block field
- 21:27Speaker 1: goal for a touchdown against the forty nine ers also
- 21:29Speaker 1: got ten tackles and when past offended. So this will
- 21:32Speaker 1: be a fun matchup. And I think this is a
- 21:34Speaker 1: matchup two where I want to see if our guys
- 21:36Speaker 1: can take the ball away right. You know, that's always
- 21:38Speaker 1: the maturation process. Obviously, Tarique has played not that much
- 21:42Speaker 1: football and he's so ahead of where he should be,
- 21:44Speaker 1: you'd think. But I want to see what they can
- 21:45Speaker 1: do try and take away the football. If Marcus Marriott
- 21:47Speaker 1: is gonna put it up there, give London and Pits
- 21:49Speaker 1: a chance, it'll be a chance for our guys to
- 21:51Speaker 1: make some plays. Now, flipping it back to our side,
- 21:54Speaker 1: DK metcalf and Tyler Lockett versus AJ Tarrell and Casey
- 21:56Speaker 1: Howard Heyward, did you get mecalfs superstar bump? He's a
- 22:01Speaker 1: superstar National Football League. It's well documented his paychecks. Say
- 22:05Speaker 1: he's a superstar. You look at him, he says, a superstar.
- 22:08Speaker 1: You see him play, He's a superstar. I mean that
- 22:10Speaker 1: just is what it is. But so far this year
- 22:12Speaker 1: he's only got eleven receptions for seventy one yards, no touchdowns.
- 22:15Speaker 1: You know, it also hurt when you take away fifty
- 22:17Speaker 1: yards on that play last week, and you know, Lockett
- 22:20Speaker 1: stepped up his production with a big game last week.
- 22:22Speaker 1: On the season, he's got twelve receptions one hundred and
- 22:24Speaker 1: thirty five yards. Now, teams are doubling DK Metcalf. So
- 22:29Speaker 1: if from a layman's perspective explained to the listeners, teams
- 22:33Speaker 1: are doing what they can to take DK away, doubling him,
- 22:36Speaker 1: having a safety over the top. If that's the case,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you know, why aren't we seeing more exposed to play
- 22:41Speaker 1: from other guys? Good question. I think last week was
- 22:44Speaker 1: the first week we saw an exposed to play Tyre
- 22:46Speaker 1: lock had a twenty seven yard reception, another one for
- 22:49Speaker 1: like fifteen to sixteen. But what they're doing is they're
- 22:52Speaker 1: staying in that two high look those two safety So
- 22:54Speaker 1: when you say double him, that means that that safety
- 22:57Speaker 1: over d case cheating over right, He has a corner
- 22:59Speaker 1: over him, and that safety is kind of bracketing him
- 23:01Speaker 1: over on that same side of that corner. But that
- 23:05Speaker 1: defense takes away the big place, or its supposed to
- 23:08Speaker 1: take away the big play. So what do you do?
- 23:10Speaker 1: You force defenses to bring another guy in the box.
- 23:13Speaker 1: How do you do that? You run the football? Well,
- 23:15Speaker 1: when you don't possess a football, you're only running on
- 23:17Speaker 1: average forty eight plays per game. You're not forcing anything
- 23:21Speaker 1: with that defense. So I think you gotta get Rashot
- 23:23Speaker 1: Penny involved, only had what fourteen carries the last couple
- 23:26Speaker 1: of games. You gotta get ken Walker, ken Walker out
- 23:28Speaker 1: an eight yard run. They got me excited as that
- 23:31Speaker 1: four back look down the goal line goes one way,
- 23:33Speaker 1: makes a guy miss get up the sideline, like you
- 23:36Speaker 1: see the potential in ken Walker in Rashot Penny. That's
- 23:39Speaker 1: how you get dk mancalf open. You have to be
- 23:42Speaker 1: able to run the football effectively. You see if they
- 23:45Speaker 1: can do that this week. I'm hoping so because we
- 23:47Speaker 1: know it's there. We know we know with Geno's completion percentage,
- 23:49Speaker 1: we know he's gonna take care of the football. You
- 23:50Speaker 1: know you have two guys on the outside he makes
- 23:52Speaker 1: a no offan will Disley. You look at the first
- 23:54Speaker 1: couple drives against Denver. They showed they can do it.
- 23:57Speaker 1: They showed they can have explosive plays getting well, Dislely open,
- 24:00Speaker 1: Geno can scramble and do things. So it's definitely there.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I'm really hoping we get to see that this week.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And on the secondary side from the Falcons, they also
- 24:07Speaker 1: got some good players. Aja Tarrell was a first round
- 24:09Speaker 1: pick in twenty twenty, and he had a good sophomore
- 24:11Speaker 1: season last year. Eighty one tackles, three interception, sixteen passes defended,
- 24:15Speaker 1: in a sack. On the other side, you get the
- 24:17Speaker 1: better in Casey Hayward. He's in his eleventh season with
- 24:19Speaker 1: the Falcons. Two time former Pro bowler, twenty five career
- 24:23Speaker 1: interceptions with one hundred and eleven passes defended. But let's
- 24:26Speaker 1: test him, baby, Let's get after him. Let's put the
- 24:28Speaker 1: pressure on him. Go over the top of old man, Casey. Hey,
- 24:30Speaker 1: We're come on eleven season, Go after him, the old man.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Go get him, all right, man, Let's go figure out
- 24:34Speaker 1: how to get this win. Path to victory. At the
- 24:38Speaker 1: forty five waits for the snaff, Michael Dickson puts it down.
- 24:42Speaker 1: That kick is away. If that kick gon, it's gun,
- 24:47Speaker 1: it's a pass to victory. On Hawk Talk, if I'm
- 24:51Speaker 1: we want to win this game, you gotta stay on
- 24:52Speaker 1: the field and office, sir, the Seahawks need to run more.
- 24:55Speaker 1: You mentioned a second ago than forty nine or forty
- 24:57Speaker 1: seven plays. You're hoping they're gonna be around the seventy
- 24:59Speaker 1: mark here in the NFL, And that's a lot goes
- 25:02Speaker 1: into that third downs, it goes into getting you know,
- 25:05Speaker 1: being in third and short and manageable and stuff like that.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So if you stay on the field more than that,
- 25:09Speaker 1: that's that's a key to victory for me. Right off top,
- 25:12Speaker 1: Stay on the field, and how do you do that
- 25:14Speaker 1: You get the running game going. We talked about a
- 25:17Speaker 1: bit ago over Shot Penny and Ken Walker need to
- 25:19Speaker 1: get going. Man, this is going into the season, he
- 25:22Speaker 1: Carroll said, this is what he wants to do. Goes. Look,
- 25:24Speaker 1: we signed with Shot Penny to a one year deal.
- 25:27Speaker 1: He wants to prove it to the organization, to himself
- 25:29Speaker 1: that he can say healthy and get it going. You
- 25:31Speaker 1: go and get in my opinion, the best running back
- 25:33Speaker 1: in the draft out of Michigan State. The guy's first
- 25:34Speaker 1: carry from Michigan State goes to the house, right. You
- 25:38Speaker 1: have to build this offense around the box, so the
- 25:41Speaker 1: running backs and the tight ends. If you can get
- 25:43Speaker 1: those guys going, the defense has to respect it and
- 25:47Speaker 1: pinch in that box, and then everything else opens up
- 25:49Speaker 1: and you control the clock, You control the pace of
- 25:53Speaker 1: the fight when you can run the rock absolutely man.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And on the other side, they didn't tackle, you know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I think it's been one of those things where there's
- 25:59Speaker 1: been more tackles than Clinton heard or Pete Carroll and
- 26:02Speaker 1: anyone would like, and players included. I think you need
- 26:04Speaker 1: to wrap up men to tackle. They need to be physical,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you know. I think they're really physical. They were the
- 26:07Speaker 1: aggressors against Denver and you know, forty nine ers with
- 26:11Speaker 1: the more physical team last week. So they need to tackle.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And I think they can get that done because they
- 26:15Speaker 1: have the dudes, and Eric can do it. A guy
- 26:16Speaker 1: who's been consistently doing that. Chenna and Wosue, that man
- 26:19Speaker 1: has been balling out. You watch the fire he plays with,
- 26:21Speaker 1: so I'm expecting continued big things from him. I want
- 26:23Speaker 1: to see Darryl Taylor step up and get a sack
- 26:25Speaker 1: this week. Makes some big plays in the run game.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Jordan Brooks, all those guys, and I think as a unit,
- 26:30Speaker 1: if they can, you know, step up that physicality and
- 26:32Speaker 1: remember at home, get in front and get after him,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be good thing for Seahawks. Get
- 26:37Speaker 1: after Marcus Mariota. Man, Marcus Mario. How do you say
- 26:41Speaker 1: Mario to Mario? It's like Kamara and Kamara. Yeah, you know.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I remember back in the day there was the ESPN
- 26:47Speaker 1: thing and when he was in college, and then everyone
- 26:49Speaker 1: thought it was they're supposed to emphasize that Mariota and
- 26:51Speaker 1: then they got went two hards. It was like Mario
- 26:53Speaker 1: ta and it's like it was a little too much.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I think it's Mariota is wrong. I think that's how
- 26:57Speaker 1: people see all these Mariota Mario. Okay, I should I
- 27:00Speaker 1: should know that we did do our homework. Better, have
- 27:02Speaker 1: you ready for Sunday for show. We'll get after him.
- 27:06Speaker 1: We gotta get after this dude. He's good enough to
- 27:09Speaker 1: expose you and make some plays. You know what I mean.
- 27:11Speaker 1: If you're giving him ample time and he's sitting back
- 27:13Speaker 1: there him and he's looking for young Drake London or
- 27:16Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts. He can hurt you, so make sure you
- 27:18Speaker 1: get after him. It's time for DT to do his
- 27:21Speaker 1: thing and then take the ball away. That's the recipe
- 27:24Speaker 1: right there. Easy, easy, let's get it done. Come on,
- 27:26Speaker 1: we'll go one and all this week. Sehawks will be
- 27:28Speaker 1: tune one and get things going. And man's back in
- 27:31Speaker 1: front of the twelve to twelves. You brought it against
- 27:34Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and Devern Broncos on Monday Night to start
- 27:37Speaker 1: the season. Seehoaws. You're gonna need that performance again on
- 27:39Speaker 1: Sunday as a Seahawks welcome in the Atlanta Falcons. Kickoff
- 27:43Speaker 1: is at one twenty five on Sunday. Pregame coverage on
- 27:45Speaker 1: the radio begins at ten am with Seats Pregame Show
- 27:48Speaker 1: and you can hear Michael Bumpus and the rest of
- 27:50Speaker 1: the crew. Reminder, you can hear all of our podcasts
- 27:52Speaker 1: everywhere sehaws dot Com, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Sitch R, Sirius XM,

- 27:59Speaker 1: weekend until next time. We'll talk to you on Monday
- 28:01Speaker 1: with the recap. Until next time, it's been all talk
