- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. So today we're talking about
- 0:32small decisions. You know, often times we think
- 0:35we need to make grandiose big changes in order to have things
- 0:39work out differently. And honestly, sometimes the
- 0:42smallest ones are the are the things that make the biggest,
- 0:46most impactful shifts quickly because you can stack them
- 0:50quickly and you can get shifts to happen quickly.
- 0:54So I'll give you a For instance, one would think that you could
- 0:57not lose a lot of weight just walking, Simply just walking.
- 1:00Well, I can hear, I can tell you myself, personal experience,
- 1:04that I lost 40 lbs just walking. Now here's the trick to this
- 1:09thing. I I just didn't even notice that
- 1:12it was on me because I'm just tall and it just kind of went
- 1:14everywhere. I kind of felt like a sausage at
- 1:17one point. And when I weighed myself, I was
- 1:19like, Oh my God, and it had to come off.
- 1:22But The thing is, I just don't like going to gyms.
- 1:26I just really don't like going to the gym.
- 1:28And I also think that that's not, you know, ideal for me in
- 1:32the sense that you go in, you work out, and then you come back
- 1:35and what you said all day, it just didn't work.
- 1:37So for me, it began just with moving, taking steps, moving,
- 1:42moving, moving and really tracking my steps.
- 1:45And I've said this before in the podcast, tracking the steps is a
- 1:47huge thing. I I'm a mad tracker, but a small
- 1:51thing like walking. I literally walked my ass off
- 1:56and people always go, no, it can't be just that, no, it was
- 1:59really just that did I shift my diet at all?
- 2:04Probably a little bit here and there.
- 2:06I I really ditched alcohol for a while but other than that it was
- 2:11not something that I did big shifts with.
- 2:14I, I, and I really want to stress this about the small
- 2:17shifts, because this is one of those things where when you just
- 2:21do it tiny, especially at this time of the year, you can again
- 2:25feel like you've got to win and those tiny little shifts add up.
- 2:29So when we're looking at something to start with,
- 2:32whatever you're trying to work on, even if you do it for 5
- 2:36minutes a day, let's say you focus on, you want to add
- 2:39reading in. OK, so you're just adding
- 2:41reading and just read for 5 minutes, just for 5 minutes.
- 2:44If you. And if you can't pull off 5
- 2:46minutes for yourself, we have bigger problems.
- 2:48So we really need to work on figuring out what those are.
- 2:51But the reality is doing little tiny things and allowing them to
- 2:57affect you really works. So it's really funny how
- 3:01sometimes these things show up and you don't even realize it.
- 3:04So I was telling my husband about how one of my clients was
- 3:06using Duolingo. And then he's like, well, what
- 3:09is it? And so I tell him it's an easy
- 3:11way. It's an app.
- 3:12You can start to do it. So he got it and he's been doing
- 3:15it every single day. And I'm like, how long you doing
- 3:18it? He's like 15 minutes.
- 3:19And I'm like, do you feel like it's working?
- 3:20He's like, yeah, it's really cool.
- 3:22And it's 15 minutes. And in just that short period of
- 3:25time, these little things start to happen.
- 3:29So this time of year, people often think of gargantuan things
- 3:33instead of small, little tiny quick things.
- 3:37So I want you to think about doing the the things that you
- 3:40think are insignificant, just do them anyway.
- 3:42Just do them anyway because it makes a massive difference.
- 3:46So pick two or three things that, you know, you really want
- 3:50to do. Like I have a client right now
- 3:52who's coloring with. She's got some beautiful pencils
- 3:57that she ordered and she's starting to sketch and she's
- 3:59starting to color in, in one of those adult coloring books,
- 4:04flowers and, you know, a simple thing as a stress reliever
- 4:08during the day. I've got somebody else who's
- 4:11like, OK, I'm going to cook one different recipe a week, OK,
- 4:16there you go. That is going to be epic.
- 4:18By the end of the year, she'll have made 52 different meals,
- 4:21have tried all kinds of different spices, 'cause that
- 4:24was the part, you know, the part that she really wanted to do was
- 4:27become better at cooking. I can obviously relate to that
- 4:30since I am not a good cook and it's just considering taking
- 4:35into account that those small, little, tiny things will add up,
- 4:40will affect you, will be positive and will go in the
- 4:43right direction. So work on that piece, be kind
- 4:48to yourself about it. Don't just focus on gargantuan
- 4:51things. I'm not saying give those up.
- 4:53I'm just saying to in order to feel good because you've got to
- 4:57stay in that framework of feeling good about this process
- 5:00and not tearing yourself down. And maybe maybe one of the
- 5:04things is you have to just get back to like, relaxing a little
- 5:07bit. Maybe you're so frenetic all the
- 5:09time, you just need to relax. So you're going to say, hey, you
- 5:11know what? Once a week I'm watching a
- 5:13movie. OK, that's great.
- 5:15That is excellent. Maybe it's OK.
- 5:18I'm going to meditate. Don't try to meditate for 1/2 an
- 5:21hour. Try to meditate for 5 minutes.
- 5:23Meditation is hard. It is hard, hard work.
- 5:27And it is not easy to quiet one's mind.
- 5:30So start small, forgive yourself for failing and do it again.
- 5:35And do it again. And do small, small, small and
- 5:38stack up. All right, my friends, I will
- 5:40see you tomorrow. Bye.
