- 0:33Speaker 1: The Tale of mister Jeremy Fisher. Once upon a time
- 0:37Speaker 1: there was a frog called mister Jeremy Fisher. He lived
- 0:42Speaker 1: in a little damp house amongst the buttercups at the
- 0:45Speaker 1: edge of the pond. The water was all slippy, sloppy
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the larder and in the back passage. But mister
- 0:52Speaker 1: Jeremy liked getting his feet wet. Nobody ever scolded him,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and he never caught a cold. He was quite pleased
- 1:01Speaker 1: when he looked out and saw large drops of rain
- 1:05Speaker 1: splashing in the pond. I will get some worms and
- 1:08Speaker 1: go fishing and catch a dish of minus for my dinner,
- 1:12Speaker 1: said mister Jeremy Fisher. If I catch more than five fish,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I will invite my friends. Mister Alderman, tottle me tortoise,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and Sir Isaac Newton. The Alderman, however, eats salad. Mister
- 1:26Speaker 1: Jeremy put on a macintosh and a pair of shiny
- 1:30Speaker 1: goloshesh He took his rod and basket and set off
- 1:35Speaker 1: with enormous hops to the place where he kept his boat.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The boat was round and green, and very like the
- 1:42Speaker 1: other lily leaves. It was tied to a water plant
- 1:46Speaker 1: in the middle of the pond. Mister Jeremy took a
- 1:50Speaker 1: reed pole and pushed the boat out into open water.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I know a good place for minnus, said mister Jeremy Fisher.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Mister Jeremy stuck his pole into the mud and fastened
- 2:01Speaker 1: the boat to it. Then he settled himself cross legged
- 2:04Speaker 1: and arranged his fishing tackle. He had the dearest little
- 2:08Speaker 1: red float. His rod was a tough stalk of grass,
- 2:13Speaker 1: His line was a fine, long white horse hair, and
- 2:17Speaker 1: he tied a little wriggling worm at the end. The
- 2:21Speaker 1: rain trickled down his back, and for nearly an hour
- 2:24Speaker 1: he stared at the float. This is getting tiresome. I
- 2:29Speaker 1: think I should like some lunch, said mister Jeremy Fisher.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He punted back again amongst the water plants and took
- 2:36Speaker 1: some lunch out of his basket. I will eat a
- 2:40Speaker 1: butterfly sandwich and wait till the shower is over, said
- 2:43Speaker 1: mister Jeremy Fisher. A great big water beetle came up
- 2:48Speaker 1: underneath the lilies and tweaked the toe of one of
- 2:52Speaker 1: his gunashesh Mister Jeremy crossed his legs up shorter out
- 2:56Speaker 1: of reach, and went on eating his sandwich. Once or twice,
- 3:00Speaker 1: something moved about with a rustle and a splash amongst
- 3:03Speaker 1: the rushes at the side of the pond. I trust
- 3:07Speaker 1: that it is not a rat, said mister Jeremy Fisher.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think I had better get away from here. Mister
- 3:13Speaker 1: Jeremy shoved the boat out again a little way and
- 3:17Speaker 1: dropped in the bait. There was a bite almost directly
- 3:22Speaker 1: the float gave a tremendous bobbit A minnow. A minnow.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I have him by the nose, cried mister Jeremy Fisher,
- 3:30Speaker 1: jerking up his rod. But what a horrible surprise. Instead
- 3:34Speaker 1: of a smooth, fat minnow, mister Jeremy landed little jack sharp,
- 3:39Speaker 1: the stickleback covered with spines. The stickleback floundered about the boat,
- 3:44Speaker 1: pricking and snapping until he was quite out of breath.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Then he jumped back into the water, and the shoal
- 3:51Speaker 1: of other little fishes put their heads out and laughed
- 3:55Speaker 1: at mister Jeremy fisher. And while mister Jeremy sat disconsole
- 4:00Speaker 1: on the edge of his boat, sucking his sore fingers
- 4:03Speaker 1: and peering down into the water, a much worse thing happened,
- 4:07Speaker 1: A really frightful thing it would have been if mister
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jeremy had not been wearing a macintosh. A great, big,
- 4:15Speaker 1: enormous trout came up curve with a splash, and it
- 4:20Speaker 1: seized mister Jeremy with a snap Oi oi oi, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: then it turned and dived down to the bottom of
- 4:27Speaker 1: the pond. But the trout was so displeased with the
- 4:31Speaker 1: taste of the macintosh that in less than half a
- 4:34Speaker 1: minute it spaed him out again, and the only thing
- 4:36Speaker 1: it swallowed was mister Jeremy's glashesh Mister Jeremy bounced up
- 4:41Speaker 1: to the surface of the water like a cork and
- 4:44Speaker 1: the bubbles out of a soda water bottle, and he
- 4:48Speaker 1: swam with all his might to the edge of the pond.
- 4:51Speaker 1: He scrambled out on the first bank he came to,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and he hopped home across the meadow with his macintosh
- 4:58Speaker 1: all in taters. What a in mercy that was not
- 5:01Speaker 1: a pike, said mister Jeremy Fisher. I have lost my
- 5:04Speaker 1: rod and basket, but it does not much matter, for
- 5:08Speaker 1: I am sure I should never have dared to go
- 5:11Speaker 1: fishing again. He put some sticking plaster on his fingers,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and his friends both came to dinner. He could not
- 5:18Speaker 1: offer them fish, but he had something else in his larder.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Sir Isaac Newton wore his black and gold waistcoat, and
- 5:26Speaker 1: mister Alderman Tottlemy Tortose brought a salad with him in
- 5:30Speaker 1: a string bag, and instead of a nice dish of minnows,
- 5:35Speaker 1: they had a roasted grasshopper with ladybird sauce, which frogs
- 5:39Speaker 1: consider a beautiful treat. But I think it must have
- 5:43Speaker 1: been nasty. The end and off the tail of mister
