- 0:05Speaker 1: I can't remember what the budget was for the construction
- 0:07Speaker 1: on any given year it's gone, but it was. These
- 0:11Speaker 1: are very significant projects, and so that was what I did,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and I managed the budgets.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Well, I didn't manage the budgets. I oversaw the budget.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So I would just make sure that if you said
- 0:22Speaker 1: you bought an out there and their conditioning clant, I
- 0:27Speaker 1: saw an air conditioning implant, and like they called the
- 0:32Speaker 1: island manager, did you receive the carrier whatever?
- 0:36Speaker 3: You know? When did mister Epson purchase the island?
- 0:42Speaker 2: I wanted to say ninety six or ninety seven, something
- 0:45Speaker 2: like that.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Okay, so we're going to come back and spend more
- 0:47Speaker 4: time on the money with with respect to mister Epstein
- 0:51Speaker 4: and his wealth, but just so we can finish this.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So in two thousand and nine, you end relationship with Ted.
- 1:00Speaker 2: That's night. That's a ten, ok I can't remember if
- 1:02Speaker 2: it was tens.
- 1:03Speaker 4: In that time period. What happens next with as far
- 1:06Speaker 4: as your relationship with mister Epstein, I don't have one
- 1:08Speaker 4: with You don't have one of him, like you don't
- 1:12Speaker 4: see him or it's just a different relationship.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I did see or maybe some once or twice and
- 1:19Speaker 1: maybe even three times. I certainly went to his house
- 1:21Speaker 1: once for sure, maybe twice, but I.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Was not seeing him.
- 1:28Speaker 1: The only time that I was in touch with him
- 1:31Speaker 1: was when the.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Things happened, like things somebody were.
- 1:37Speaker 1: In the press that affected me, or when the cbr
- 1:40Speaker 1: A case was filed and there was all that rubbish
- 1:42Speaker 1: that went out.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Cause I didn't do the information, cause I didn't know.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I didn't know anything about what was happening, and I
- 1:49Speaker 2: needed his help a to understan I.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I made a sound way depraise that I topt me
- 1:57Speaker 1: in his help.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I meant to have answers.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So that I had an ability to defend myself.
- 2:04Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I'm not when does that relationship change, so you're working
- 2:10Speaker 4: you talked about when your the physical relationship stopped, and
- 2:14Speaker 4: then you're still working for him or with him managing
- 2:17Speaker 4: his properties and being serving as a general manager. You
- 2:21Speaker 4: then start your own relationship with another individual from with
- 2:24Speaker 4: Ted from two thousand and three till two thousand nine
- 2:26Speaker 4: or ten, At what point in that whole period is
- 2:29Speaker 4: there like more of a break where you're no longer
- 2:32Speaker 4: acting as his job.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I wanted to have a full break when I started
- 2:37Speaker 1: dating Techt, and he.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Was pleas I suppose it would be true to say that.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I sort of viewed the step seeing that point sort
- 2:48Speaker 1: of family. If he will let someone I could rely on,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and I should have had more confidence in myself. I
- 2:56Speaker 1: can see that now, but it kind of given everything
- 3:00Speaker 1: that had happened in my life, I thought that it would.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And I saw how he voiced with other people like Eva,
- 3:07Speaker 1: who seemed to be very comfortable with saying there.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I thought this to be, and he always said I
- 3:11Speaker 2: was like family.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So he worked hard to maintain a relationship with me.
- 3:18Speaker 2: He was generous with me. He let me use the
- 3:21Speaker 2: plane with bass, which was very generous.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He would.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Check in with my mum. He things that woul were
- 3:33Speaker 1: meaningful to me in that time. And then it may
- 3:38Speaker 1: still not her work, but that his his mother, that
- 3:42Speaker 1: Paula had been in a very serious car crash, and
- 3:48Speaker 1: I am.
- 3:50Speaker 2: She had become sort of like a a surrogate.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Mother for me, sort of because my mom wasn't there,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I could I could look after her the way that
- 4:00Speaker 1: I would have sorry, the way that I would have
- 4:09Speaker 1: liked to look after my own mum. So I became
- 4:12Speaker 1: very close to his mother, and she had been in
- 4:15Speaker 1: a car crash and in two thousand and four, I
- 4:21Speaker 1: believe it it it may have been five. I I
- 4:23Speaker 1: don't recall exactly she took her Her health took a
- 4:27Speaker 1: serious decline, and Epstein called me and asked me if
- 4:33Speaker 1: I could look after her.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And by looking after her, that meant organizing her doctors, uh, making.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Sure she had new clothes, making sure her house was cleaned.
- 4:48Speaker 2: She lived in a.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Retirement uh establishment in outside of Palm Beach, outside of
- 4:56Speaker 1: its West Palm. I wanted I'm going to say something
- 5:01Speaker 1: like the Golden Girls, but it's not called that. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: just don't remember what it is. Gold but it was
- 5:05Speaker 1: an old age. It was for a time with him
- 5:07Speaker 1: and if.
- 5:08Speaker 3: You will, Todd, I don't know.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We've been going for maybe about an hour.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Now, do you think is this a good time? Yeah? Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 3: so we'll take a we'll take a break.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so we're going to take a break.
- 5:18Speaker 3: The time is ten fifty six.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I were continuing the Popper interview with miss Maxwell. The
- 5:31Speaker 1: time is eleven oh seven am on Thursday, July twenty fourth.
- 5:35Speaker 3: All right, so just picking up where we just stopped.
- 5:40Speaker 5: So you have basically a break, well not a break,
- 5:45Speaker 5: that's the wrong word, but your your relationship with mister
- 5:48Speaker 5: Maxwell professional and other changes in.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Two thousand and three four.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean over the time that I stay with Ted,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the more time I'm with Ted, the.
- 5:58Speaker 2: More distance I have him. And then when the.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Arrest, well, let's go back when he whatever whatever happened
- 6:08Speaker 1: in two thousand and five, and he became arrested in
- 6:11Speaker 1: two thousands, So when.
- 6:12Speaker 4: He's charged and arrested in what we'll call the Florida investigations,
- 6:18Speaker 4: that's what you're talking about.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Okay, go ahead.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So I had I was not in.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Well, well, we part of that investigation.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Did law enforcement ever talk to you as far of that,
- 6:31Speaker 4: did you, Like, the Feds never talked to you, The
- 6:34Speaker 4: FBI never talked to you. I never even received a phone,
- 6:38Speaker 4: did you, So you didn't receive a subpoena?
- 6:41Speaker 3: Did the state law enforcement ever reach out to you?
- 6:45Speaker 4: As far as you know, did the government, either state
- 6:49Speaker 4: or federal, subpoena your bank records or subpoena anything from
- 6:55Speaker 4: your financial life during that time during the.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Not as far as I'm aware out If they did,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I don't know it and I have no idea about that,
- 7:03Speaker 1: to be honest, but I'm not aware of it, and
- 7:05Speaker 1: I would say no, but maybe you guys do things
- 7:07Speaker 1: that I don't know.
- 7:09Speaker 4: So how did how did you learn of that case
- 7:12Speaker 4: when Miss Repsing was arrested or did you know that
- 7:14Speaker 4: something was happening before then?
- 7:17Speaker 1: The first thing I knew was he had told me
- 7:21Speaker 1: he was deciding to redecorate the house in Pumpeach. It
- 7:28Speaker 1: didn't surprise me. It was like a rolling situation.
- 7:31Speaker 4: But by that time, are you doing are you like
- 7:33Speaker 4: he tells you because he wants your help or your
- 7:35Speaker 4: relationship changed by this time where you were no longer
- 7:37Speaker 4: kind of acting as his general manager?
- 7:40Speaker 2: No, I was. I was still around. I wasn't gone.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I was with Ted, I was traveling.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I wasn't daily. If you'd ask me where he was
- 7:53Speaker 1: in any given time, I'm not sure I would have
- 7:54Speaker 1: known then. I mean it was I felt like I
- 8:00Speaker 1: suppose the relationship moved into sort of like a.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Longtime friend family, you know, like look like I felt
- 8:09Speaker 2: that you had with Eva. If I'm honest.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Okay, so he says to you he's going to redecorate.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He asked me specifically, which decorator he thinks he should
- 8:19Speaker 1: use because I had a lot of contacts with decorators
- 8:23Speaker 1: and he was not very good with people, and he
- 8:30Speaker 1: was useless at maintaining relationships with people who work for him.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm not so anyway, So I recommended. I think I recommended.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I can't be one hundred percent sure because it's a
- 8:46Speaker 1: long time, but I think I recommended Mark Zef at
- 8:49Speaker 1: that time who Mark Zef?
- 8:51Speaker 2: I believe, and I don't know why.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 8:57Speaker 1: That's all lost the time. But anyway, at some point
- 9:02Speaker 1: I think his mother had died. Now I can't remember
- 9:05Speaker 1: the timing of all of that either, But I ended
- 9:09Speaker 1: up in Palm Beach and he had asked me to
- 9:12Speaker 1: come and look at the swatches or whatever he was doing,
- 9:14Speaker 1: because they had laid it all out over the house
- 9:17Speaker 1: and various things, and I think he'd asked for my opinion.
- 9:19Speaker 1: That's my memory of this. It may also be that
- 9:23Speaker 1: Ted and I were going to Palm Beach because Ted
- 9:25Speaker 1: had a golf match or something. There was a reason
- 9:27Speaker 1: I was in Palm Beach. It wasn't so leaf. I
- 9:30Speaker 1: don't Maybe that's not true, right, I don't know.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So there's a.
- 9:34Speaker 1: You know, sometimes I went to Palm Beach because Ted
- 9:36Speaker 1: was there. I don't know if that's part of that
- 9:38Speaker 1: time or not, or Ted went there.
- 9:39Speaker 2: And left me.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Something anyway, I was there. No, that's not either.
- 9:46Speaker 1: No, anyway, at some point in that time I saw
- 9:50Speaker 1: all the swatches. At some point in two thousand and five,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I think that was and then I believe I don't remember.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I think I got a phone call. Actually I wasn't
- 10:01Speaker 1: in pant Beach. I think I got a phone call
- 10:02Speaker 1: that there was a police at his house or something.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Would you've got a phone call from him or you
- 10:11Speaker 4: think you've just told by somebody that knew that it happened,
- 10:13Speaker 4: or don't or don't you remember?
- 10:15Speaker 2: Definitely not him, Okay, I think it would have been
- 10:18Speaker 2: the house.
- 10:18Speaker 4: So when that happens, whenever it was, that's kind of
- 10:21Speaker 4: the first time you know that mister Epstein's being investigated.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I didn't even know what. I didn't even understand. I
- 10:30Speaker 1: didn't have a context for that. It was like I
- 10:33Speaker 1: didn't even know.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I didn't know. I didn't. I didn't, I didn't. I'm
- 10:39Speaker 2: not sure even.
- 10:41Speaker 4: After you find out about it, what happens with your relationship.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I asked him.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I asked him what was going on?
- 10:47Speaker 1: And he said, not to worry, nothing, nothing, don't worry
- 10:52Speaker 1: about it, and then it went quiet. I didn't he
- 10:57Speaker 1: didn't say, he didn't share. I wasn't part of it
- 11:00Speaker 1: at all. I was off with Ted and I really did.
- 11:03Speaker 4: He tell you, Well, why don't we come back to
- 11:07Speaker 4: more specifics around that time period in a few minutes.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I want to just finish this opening part so that
- 11:14Speaker 3: case goes on ultimately it ends.
- 11:19Speaker 4: What what was your relationship like with him during that case?
- 11:25Speaker 3: When he goes, you.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Know, he.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Told me he said, listen, I'm going to jail, and
- 11:33Speaker 1: he goes, I'd like you to stay on board to
- 11:37Speaker 1: manage the properties, animals, this and that, and just stay
- 11:41Speaker 1: put and I'll continue to pay you in cases any emergency.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I don't trust anyone.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And I was like, okay, well and you said continue
- 11:50Speaker 4: to pay you had he?
- 11:51Speaker 3: He he never stopping, He never stopping.
- 11:54Speaker 4: So even when your relationship changes, you're getting does the
- 11:56Speaker 4: amount increase from the twenty five thousand or so a year?
- 12:00Speaker 3: Like how much are you getting paid yearly?
- 12:02Speaker 2: I think it.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Ended at the time, Well, we had different payment structures,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and I'm happy to explain how that was. But I
- 12:07Speaker 1: think salary wise, if I'm right, it ended it around
- 12:10Speaker 1: a quarter of a million a year? How much quarter
- 12:12Speaker 1: of a million? Two hundred and fifty thousand?
- 12:14Speaker 3: And when and when did it end? When was that two.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Thousand and eight or nine?
- 12:22Speaker 3: So? Nine?
- 12:23Speaker 2: When did he come out of jail? Whenever he came
- 12:24Speaker 2: out of jail?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Okay?
- 12:26Speaker 4: So, and over the years it increased from what you said,
- 12:31Speaker 4: what you thought about twenty five thousands or two hundred
- 12:33Speaker 4: and fifty thousand, that's between like ninety early nineties until
- 12:37Speaker 4: two thousand and nine or.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Ten whatever he stopped? Is that right? And how were
- 12:41Speaker 3: you paid?
- 12:43Speaker 2: W two?
- 12:44Speaker 3: W two from which? From what company? Are do you.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Like? He just moved me around over to this company there.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I didn't care, okay, And I didn't care. I didn't think.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I didn't understand any rhyme or reason. It doesn't tells
- 12:59Speaker 2: you know whatever.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:01Speaker 4: So when he's going to go to jail, he says,
- 13:03Speaker 4: can you stay around and manage everything?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah? And do you do that? I do, okay, And
- 13:08Speaker 3: then and then we'll come back to that.
- 13:10Speaker 1: We will not manage everything. Now, I mean there are
- 13:12Speaker 1: other people at this point. My specific role then was
- 13:14Speaker 1: very very diminished. I reviewed the bill structure that came
- 13:19Speaker 1: from the constructions that was storming the island and wherever else.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I was going to Paris at this point because I
- 13:26Speaker 1: speak French, I'm fluent in French. And also my relationship
- 13:29Speaker 1: was with the French decorator was critical to him in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the French component part of that aspect that was really vital.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And so you'd have had to find someone who was
- 13:40Speaker 1: well actually and the Spanish trilingual. You would have had
- 13:43Speaker 1: to find someone who's trilingual and that he trusted. Did
- 13:47Speaker 1: you to not steal from him?
- 13:51Speaker 3: Did you?
- 13:54Speaker 4: So when he gets out of jail between that time
- 13:59Speaker 4: two thousand nine or ten and twenty nineteen, what's your
- 14:04Speaker 4: relationship like with mister Epstein?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Oh, it's non existent.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Why I had just moved on and I just didn't
- 14:13Speaker 1: want to have anything.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I didn't want the drama. I didn't want to be
- 14:16Speaker 2: associated with.
- 14:19Speaker 4: So do you recall when you say almost non existent?
- 14:24Speaker 4: Does that mean it doesn't mean it phone calls, some visits,
- 14:27Speaker 4: some trips or what.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I don't I don't think there were any trips. Oh,
- 14:34Speaker 2: I don't I don't.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Think where were you living during that time period or
- 14:38Speaker 4: was it which time period between twenty nine ten and
- 14:41Speaker 4: twenty nineteen, I was back in New York. Okay, so
- 14:47Speaker 4: you had no So so you're your phone calls with
- 14:52Speaker 4: them on occasion.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yes, well I certainly did.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Whenever there was any legal drama or any like serious
- 14:58Speaker 1: press attention, I always called him to try and.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Find out what was going on.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Okay, okay, And I.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Did email him at that time for those types of details.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I was like, what do I do? What I mean?
- 15:08Speaker 3: And then when he's charged in New York federally, how
- 15:14Speaker 3: did you learn about that case in the press?
- 15:17Speaker 4: And had you, as far as you know, been contacted
- 15:21Speaker 4: by law enforcement before his arrest?
- 15:24Speaker 2: No, I wasn't in an indictment.
- 15:27Speaker 3: No, I know that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: But even as a witness or asking you if you
- 15:30Speaker 4: would give documents or materials, I.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Had never up until up until when my lawyers said that,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I don't even know. I had no knowledge of them
- 15:43Speaker 1: being interested in me. Honestly, I don't, I want to say,
- 15:47Speaker 1: until he had died. Now I know that my lawyers
- 15:50Speaker 1: were in touch with some district of New York at
- 15:55Speaker 1: some point after his addressed. I'm pretty sure that had
- 15:58Speaker 1: have happened, right, But my understanding is that they had
- 16:02Speaker 1: not shown any interest. I know my lawyers went to
- 16:04Speaker 1: see them once, I.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Believe, and went to see him, meaning mister Epstein District.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Sorry, and that they had been in regular in touch
- 16:16Speaker 1: with them.
- 16:17Speaker 4: And but now you're talking about after mister Epstein died,
- 16:21Speaker 4: or you're talking about before he died.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I think if you can't.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Remember, it's easily verifiable. My memory is that they were
- 16:32Speaker 1: in touch with them when he was arrested.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I don't know if.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Anything happened until after his death. Then after that, I
- 16:40Speaker 1: don't think they saw them met with them Suden.
- 16:43Speaker 2: District of New York.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'm talking about now until after he died. I know
- 16:47Speaker 1: that they were in regular telephone contact with them, and
- 16:51Speaker 1: that my lawyers believed that they had been told that
- 16:55Speaker 1: there was no interest in me and were absolutely stunned
- 17:00Speaker 1: when I was arrested. But maybe stunt is too big
- 17:02Speaker 1: a word, but surprised.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I certainly was.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Okay, So.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Let's okay. So that's That's was a long description of
- 17:13Speaker 4: what was a very long life, and that was very helpful.
- 17:16Speaker 4: So I want to go back and talk more specifically
- 17:19Speaker 4: now about particular areas, and but that was a very
- 17:23Speaker 4: helpful kind of foundation for us. The first the first
- 17:28Speaker 4: thing I want to talk about you talked about earlier
- 17:30Speaker 4: on about mister Epstein's financial success.
- 17:36Speaker 3: What you know?
- 17:37Speaker 4: Do you know how he when you first meet him?
- 17:40Speaker 4: At some point you say, I got this place for
- 17:42Speaker 4: you to rent. You can't afford it, and he laughs
- 17:43Speaker 4: at you and says, yes I can. What did you
- 17:47Speaker 4: learn about his wealth and how he was and how
- 17:51Speaker 4: he accumulated his money?
- 17:52Speaker 1: I can tell you what you told me, Yes, so
- 17:55Speaker 1: I I know that he was hired from working at
- 17:59Speaker 1: a price at school whose name eludes me at this point, Dalton.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He was working at Dalton as a math teacher and
- 18:08Speaker 2: he met.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I think it was Ace. I'm not sure he met
- 18:15Speaker 1: someone from Bear who hired him because he was very
- 18:17Speaker 1: good at math. And I believe that he then worked
- 18:21Speaker 1: on creating a trading of.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Just describe it ahead.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He kind of came up with some new type of
- 18:42Speaker 1: trading system, not not a system so much, but as
- 18:45Speaker 1: a as a as a vehicle, a trading vehicle that
- 18:49Speaker 1: I'm just escaping.
- 18:50Speaker 4: And this is why while he was working there and
- 18:56Speaker 4: and was this before you met him?
