  SPEAKER_00: So when I was 17, right, I have a company called Q17.
• 0:03
SPEAKER_00: So that's the first company I registered, like a talent management company.
• 0:05
SPEAKER_04: So what were some of the challenges you faced in the beginning?
• 0:08
SPEAKER_00: Um, not knowing how to sign a contract.
• 0:13
SPEAKER_00: With the dance industry, um my main goal was to change perception because nobody was even willing to pay us.
• 0:20
SPEAKER_04: So, how did you used to handle the mindset of your people?
• 0:25
SPEAKER_04: Because I'm sure it will be painful when you are trying to do something that you're passionate about and you're being told like you're joking.
• 0:35
SPEAKER_04: How much will a successful creator be making in a good month, and how much will they be making in a bad month?
• 0:42
SPEAKER_04: So that's a very deep thought to have at a 17-year-old that you know, how are you going to be remembered and tell it to serve people so they can remember you?
• 0:53
SPEAKER_04: Before we jump into the conversation, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting and deciding to watch this episode.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_04: But now I have a favor subscribe to the channel.

SPEAKER_04: Subscribing to the channel helps me and an entire mastermind team to continue bringing you wonderful conversations and episodes that bring you closer to being the mastermind you deserve to be.

  SPEAKER_04: So join the community.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_04: Your mind is right here again.
• 1:38
SPEAKER_04: My name is Richie Mensa, and I am just a humble servant.
• 1:41
SPEAKER_04: Now, this conversation is going to be nice because this guy is my guy.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_04: You know, one thing I like about, let me call him by his government name, Ernest.
• 1:50
SPEAKER_04: One thing I like about Ernest is the fact that he's been very disciplined in an industry that wasn't too structured, and he's created a very good structure that has helped many people.
• 2:03
SPEAKER_04: You know, it's it's one thing to do good for yourself, but it's another thing to be able to extend that to other people and create a system that keeps doing so.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_04: So I really respect him.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_04: You know, I watch him from far.
• 2:15
SPEAKER_04: I don't tell him there's a lot today, because I'm saying this, I know that next time he will rush me because I've said it.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_04: But Quabbles has done an amazing job.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_04: So I said, let me bring him here today so we can talk about the creator economy and how you hopefully, an up-and-coming creator, can become a legend, like the legends that he's created.
• 2:33
SPEAKER_04: So, Quabbles, welcome to Masterminds.
• 2:35
SPEAKER_04: Wow, how are you doing like you're shy?
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I mean this is coming from Richmond, sir.
• 2:41
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, small boy.
• 2:42
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: Because I've I feel like you've done you've done so much in the industry, and I mean, I've I've seen all the works that you've done, even before I started everything I do.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_00: And if somebody would inspire me, so you tell me that I'm doing a good job.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_04: See, that's the same way you're inspiring somebody out there who will also sit there, you watch the person do pictures, and you say cobbles inspired me.
• 3:03
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, but you're doing a very good job.
• 3:05
  SPEAKER_04: Thank you very much.
• 3:06
  SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
• 3:06
SPEAKER_04: And is it like I was saying, it's easy to make it once, but when you can repeat it, then it means it's not just luck, it's a system that you've created.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and the fact that you've extended that outside of you, because I mean the list goes on.
• 3:20
SPEAKER_04: The number of creators that you've made in Ghana and you've sent them global goes on.
• 3:25
SPEAKER_04: So Charlie, if nobody will clap for you, me, let me clap.
• 3:32
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, let's start.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_04: Let's start by talking about you.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I want people to understand your background.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_04: You know, I think most people don't know where cobbles comes from.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_04: So tell me about you before you started building up dancers in the creative economy.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so um, me before all of this, I was in KNUSC.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_00: Um, I studied publishing, and I was trying to find myself, you know.
• 3:59
SPEAKER_00: Like you know, you're going to school, but you sometimes you don't know whether you actually want to do A to Five.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_00: You don't know whether you have this talent, whether you should develop it or whatnot.
• 4:11
SPEAKER_00: Then I started doing modeling.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_00: Let me even go back.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_00: So when I was 17, right, I have a company called Q17.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_00: So that's the first company I registered, like a talent manager company.
• 4:21
SPEAKER_00: And I don't know why, but at that age, I used to fear death.
• 4:27
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, right.
• 4:28
  SPEAKER_00: At 17.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_00: At 17, and I was I was thinking that if I'm to die today, what are people gonna remember me for?
• 4:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, and um I was like, then I need to help people so that if I die, those people remember me for what I did for them.
• 4:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's why I created uh um um their company called Q17, because at 17 that's when I had you know those feelings.
• 4:53
SPEAKER_00: And um later on I started working with brands like MTN Tigo.
• 4:59
SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I became very popular, but I became quite popular on campus.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_00: And it didn't give me so much fulfillment, you know, it didn't give me so much fulfillment, I wasn't so happy.
• 5:11
SPEAKER_00: And I just kept on remembering the younger me that you know wanted to help people so that I can be remembered for something.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_00: So then I decided to actually channel like that theme into other people, okay, you know, and coincidentally, and everything happened uh, you know, simultaneously.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_00: Like we were premiering a movie in campus, and then I think dance god came to campus.
• 5:36
SPEAKER_00: He met me and was telling me, you know, that you know it's not easy and the dance is not going well, and everything.
• 5:41
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, even me, I'm in this space where I'm feeling like this, so I'm gonna channel my energy, you know, into you.
• 5:50
  SPEAKER_00: And that's how I all started.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_00: Um I I I feel like I put in my all because I just wanted to see people, you know, do well in in whatever field that they found themselves in.
• 5:59
  SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_00: Because I can't dance, you know.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: It's not like it's not like I've seen you try it's not like I can dance, it's not like a field that you know I was so excited about, it was more about being able to assist somebody.
• 6:13
  SPEAKER_04: But that's a very deep thought to have as a 17-year-old.
• 6:16
SPEAKER_04: That you know, how are you going to be remembered?
• 6:19
SPEAKER_04: And you decided to serve people so they can remember you.
• 6:22
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and now I I actually understand that when you stopped doing that, you missed it.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_04: You know, there's this joy that you get from helping people.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_04: I think most people don't know that.
• 6:35
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it feels better than anything you can do for yourself, honestly.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's it's the feeling is so surreal, like because I don't know, I just cannot even explain it because I can go somewhere and then they can talk about me.
• 6:53
SPEAKER_00: But if they say Quabbles aided this or the manager of this, if I see endurance, you know, shining somewhere, I'm so excited because I know I played a role in you know, I think that's a joy that parents also feel about their kids.
• 7:05
  SPEAKER_04: Honestly, yeah.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_04: It's like you've been able to impact in somebody's life.
• 7:09
SPEAKER_00: Once you see your child be like doing well, you're happy.
• 7:12
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
• 7:13
SPEAKER_04: But that means you weren't prepared for the dance and creator industry.
• 7:17
SPEAKER_04: So how were you able to maneuver your way when you started?
• 7:20
  SPEAKER_00: I I learned every day.
• 7:22
SPEAKER_00: I learned on the job, I made so many mistakes.
• 7:25
SPEAKER_00: Um, and I pay attention.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_00: So, like something you don't know, I'll be paying attention to you know you and how you're managing your talent, yeah.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_00: How you're probably you know relating with them, the kind of post that you write.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_00: I'll watch your interviews, I'll probably watch a Don Jazzi interview, I'll watch and I'll watch so many managers' interviews, and you know, I'm picking little traits from everybody, and I think that's how I became successful in this in this space.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so what were some of the challenges you faced in the beginning?
• 7:52
SPEAKER_00: Um not knowing how to sign a contract.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_00: You know, everything was everything was boys, boys, and on a friendship, you know, yeah, basis, uh not even thinking about how much I'll make you know from this space, you know, and all of those things I had to learn, you know, coming up.
• 8:15
SPEAKER_00: And you know, once once you're if you're there are no contracting, whatever you're doing, then you know you're not protecting yourself.
• 8:22
SPEAKER_00: So that's one of the challenges that I faced in the beginning.
• 8:25
SPEAKER_00: Another one was raising capital because I was actually doing eight to five without earning you know some good money.
• 8:32
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 8:32
SPEAKER_00: Right now, there was um um it was difficult balancing, you know, managing the talents and then going to work every day.
• 8:41
SPEAKER_00: So how to quit the job.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_00: Now, how to raise enough money, you know, enough money to be able to, because you need money to be able to do you know whatever you are doing.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_00: So that's one of the big biggest challenges, like raising money in the beginning was a challenge.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_04: So when when it was difficult to raise the money, how are you able to maneuver into the industry?
• 9:03
SPEAKER_04: Because I know that you know, in any industry, we struggled in the beginning, yeah, raising money to keep doing things.
• 9:10
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, how are you able to keep the people going, especially talents?
• 9:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so so with with the dance dance industry, um my main goal was to change perception because nobody was even willing to pay us, you know.
• 9:25
SPEAKER_00: Um the uh if you try and mention a price, they will tell you that you are just dancing, yeah.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_00: You know, so the the the first thing I had to do was to change the perception.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_00: Um the way the dancers talk, the I had a good phone at the time, I think it was iPhone 7 or I don't remember.
• 9:46
SPEAKER_00: You know, and I think my so my phone was better than the people that was managing.
• 9:50
SPEAKER_00: So I would use it to record, you know, good videos, post it out there, um, try to get people to hear them speak, you know, and gradually, gradually, you know, we were making something small.
• 10:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in the beginning, we're doing a lot of free free jobs because we wanted people to see us, we wanted the people to see what we can do, and and with times the money started coming so small.
• 10:12
SPEAKER_04: So it was more about building the right brand.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because I remember before you guys, your time, dancers have always been in the background.
• 10:21
  SPEAKER_04: Do you get me?
• 10:22
SPEAKER_04: It's like we all have our dancers that we loved and everything, but there were background information.
• 10:26
SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, they'll dance in a music video in the back, they'll dance on stage in the back.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but it's in your era that dancers started to become the main feature.
• 10:37
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it's like I'm watching this video only because of the dancer, not because of the person they are standing behind.
• 10:44
SPEAKER_04: So that was like a conscious effort to make dancers the foreground.
• 10:49
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 10:49
SPEAKER_00: So so they they always saw themselves as you know, dancing behind an artist, or um, you know, like I was saying, the perception was bad, like people saw them as school dropouts, yeah, or people that you know don't have anything to do.
• 11:04
SPEAKER_00: So they had to be uh uh uh an interesting brand position so that people see them as the main figure, you know, or see their value to have to want to pay for it, you know.
• 11:16
SPEAKER_00: And I I think that we we were able to change that perception.
• 11:20
SPEAKER_00: It it took a uh quite a while.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_04: How about how long do you think it took?
• 11:23
SPEAKER_00: Um I'll say five years.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_00: Wow, I'll say five years because um even my parents didn't like what I was doing.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like why are you following this shit, guys?
• 11:38
SPEAKER_00: Because they they they don't understand why you want to quit your job and uh you know manage people that you don't probably see how it's gonna go, you know.
• 11:48
SPEAKER_00: So it took quite a while, five years.
• 11:51
SPEAKER_00: Um and even with that, you probably see that they are they are only seeing certain dancers as the main figure.
• 11:59
SPEAKER_00: So maybe they are seeing dance god as the main figure, they're probably seeing Aphrobis, they are probably seeing Ziggy.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_00: So it's just a few people, it's not like they are seeing the whole dance industry, but now we've been able to build so many dances in that space that can stand alone and probably you know.
• 12:15
SPEAKER_04: Now it's cool to say I want to be a dancer.
• 12:17
SPEAKER_00: A lot of a lot of parents bring their children and they want them to be trained to become professional dancers because you know it looks cool, yeah, you can make a living, and you can be very educated and be a dancer.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_04: You know, no, no, you see dancers you know graduating and everything, and yeah.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_00: Most of my dancers are like you know, very good academically.
• 12:36
SPEAKER_00: Like, for instance, Lisa, um I hear when she was in high school, she was always first in class.
• 12:40
  SPEAKER_00: Nice, you understand?
• 12:41
SPEAKER_00: Because it takes intelligence to dance, you know, to be able to create, yeah, you know.
• 12:45
SPEAKER_00: So imagine being this intelligent, you could work anywhere, you could you could bag a good job and and earn some good living, but she's been able to graduate with good grades, but she wants to be a professional dancer.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_00: So now parents could because the parents, most of their worries is that baby, when you're public dancing, you're not gonna pay attention to school, you're not gonna focus on that.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_00: So once you can be able to balance that and be successful at both, then then you're good.
• 13:11
SPEAKER_04: So, how did you used to handle the mindset of your people?
• 13:15
SPEAKER_04: Because I'm sure it will be painful when you are trying to do something that you're passionate about, and you're being told like you're joking.
• 13:22
SPEAKER_04: Like, let's take a Lisa, for instance.
• 13:24
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for you to be doing well in school, and then now you say you want to dance, yeah.
• 13:29
SPEAKER_04: I'm sure there'll be the comments of, oh, why are you wasting your life?
• 13:32
SPEAKER_04: Why are you throwing your life away?
• 13:33
SPEAKER_04: How do you condition their mindset to handle these kind of things?
• 13:36
SPEAKER_00: Um it's it's it's it's not been easy because especially with the parents, a lot of people actually dropped out.
• 13:44
SPEAKER_00: We saw when we started, for instance, we started the OP Academy, we were about 50 people in the beginning, right?
• 13:50
SPEAKER_00: And most of them dropped, and now we have 12 from that time.
• 13:55
  SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot of people that didn't.
• 13:57
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, 30 years gone.
• 13:58
SPEAKER_00: They didn't believe that this had a future, or they didn't believe that they will make a living from this, you know, or their parents to them, you are wasting your time.
• 14:06
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_00: But it had to take a lot of convincing, telling them that in this field you can probably make money this way, this way, this way.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we are not gonna stop your child from you know focusing on school.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_00: Maybe when it's time for school, they should focus on school.
• 14:22
SPEAKER_00: When they come home, then you know, and this is how you are probably going to position them so that they can also make money, you know, from whatever they are doing.
• 14:29
SPEAKER_04: Everyone's biggest aim is to build wealth.
• 14:32
SPEAKER_04: Now, anyone who knows what they are about will tell you the one true way to build wealth is to have a system that gains that wealth over time.
• 14:41
SPEAKER_04: Now, most people are suffering to what system or what tool can they use?
• 14:46
SPEAKER_04: How do they get to invest easily?
• 14:48
SPEAKER_04: How do they get to invest over time?
• 14:50
SPEAKER_04: Small amounts, compound interest, and build their wealth.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_04: Well, that tool is Achieve by Petra.
• 14:57
SPEAKER_04: Download Achieve by Petra now and let's build wealth together.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_04: I know this thing that has been painful for a lot of dancers.
• 15:05
SPEAKER_04: That they go for such a long time without making any.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_04: You know, I I they every musician tells this story, it makes it sound like the saddest thing.
• 15:15
SPEAKER_04: But I know it can be even worse for dancers.
• 15:19
SPEAKER_04: What do you do to keep the dancers going during that period?
• 15:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that we have created a system sad that there's always money coming in.
• 15:29
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you know, um so the for the people that manage this, they they I make sure that they have like um online platforms that you can make money from.
• 15:38
  SPEAKER_00: So there's YouTube.
• 15:40
SPEAKER_00: If you if you're a good creator, you make money on YouTube.
• 15:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there is um TikTok, you know, some of them have their TikTok monetized.
• 15:47
SPEAKER_04: So people are doing arbitrary stuff like that.
• 15:50
  SPEAKER_04: Ghana TikTok is not.
• 15:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, yes, but some people are you actually you actually create your account in that space, and then you will you live here, but the account is recognized as okay uh an account from there, so you can still make money, you know.
• 16:04
SPEAKER_00: So that's one one stream of income.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_00: Now we promote artist songs, you know.
• 16:10
SPEAKER_00: I know you charge me plenty before because of because like the the our band position, we get gigs from all over the world.
• 16:17
SPEAKER_00: So it's Ghana, Nigeria, anywhere in the world, yeah.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_00: And that's another stream of income.
• 16:23
SPEAKER_00: And now there's um clothing.
• 16:25
SPEAKER_00: So we make sure that we have like each of them have probably have like clothing brands, or we have a clothing brand as a collective that we can sell and and and make you know.
• 16:36
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you have your own brands that you sell interest.
• 16:39
SPEAKER_00: We have a collective brand that's DWP Academy.
• 16:42
SPEAKER_00: So we have clothing lines that we sell, clothes, clothes that we sell to make revenue for and does it sell well?
• 16:47
  SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes.
• 16:49
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, sometimes, you know.
• 16:50
SPEAKER_00: Recently there was an event poor speech.
• 16:52
SPEAKER_00: We sold um key key holders.
• 16:56
SPEAKER_00: Okay, we made about 200 to 300 pieces.
• 17:00
SPEAKER_00: We didn't even think people were gonna, you know, and we sold our everybody, people bought everything.
• 17:04
SPEAKER_00: So there's times where the sales is very good, and there's times where you know, I mean, just like yeah, just like any business, you know.
• 17:11
SPEAKER_04: But now that that explains something I was going to ask about because one thing I like about your your talents is they always look very good, like that they dress really nicely.
• 17:20
SPEAKER_04: So I'm now seeing the business sense in that because by having your clothing label, it does two things when you make money, that's good for them and for the business.
• 17:29
SPEAKER_04: When you're not making money, at least you still have a way to keep them clothed nicely.
• 17:33
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it's invest back into them.
• 17:36
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, wise, yeah, wise.
• 17:39
SPEAKER_00: So it's I mean, there's this um, then there's brands, you know, with there's brands that we work with.
• 17:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, so so there's different streams of income.
• 17:48
SPEAKER_00: So if there's no money coming from here, at least there's money coming from here.
• 17:52
SPEAKER_00: It's it's but like any other, like like you're saying, like the artists, it's not consistent all the time.
• 17:59
SPEAKER_00: But you know there's something to fall back on.
• 18:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if this one is not working, there's something else that's you know who's which source of income would you say is the highest?
• 18:08
SPEAKER_00: Um I think and like brand endorsement deals.
• 18:13
  SPEAKER_00: Brand endorsement deals.
• 18:14
SPEAKER_00: Yes, I think those are the highest.
• 18:16
SPEAKER_00: Um I think YouTube could be very big, you know, depending on how big your platform is and and how big your engagement is.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_00: We are baby platforms by not making plenty of money, either give us time.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_00: And depending on how like how how big your engagement is.
• 18:32
SPEAKER_00: But once the engagement is good, you know, you'll be you'll be sorted.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_00: Because I like I've seen there's certain creators that I've watched where um I hear that they probably make like three thousand dollars per video on YouTube.
• 18:47
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, interesting.
• 18:47
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_00: So imagine that you're you're creating every day, yeah, and you're probably making three thousand.
• 18:53
SPEAKER_04: That's not bad at all.
• 18:54
  SPEAKER_00: You understand?
• 18:54
SPEAKER_00: But over here, our engagement is not as high as hey.
• 18:57
SPEAKER_04: Should I learn how to dance?
• 19:02
SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah, our engagement is not as high as you know, some people, but I mean, we're getting there, yeah.
• 19:07
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
• 19:08
SPEAKER_04: So you said endorsements are the biggest, yes, yeah, but which is the most consistent?
• 19:12
SPEAKER_00: The most consistent is the promotion of songs, promotion of songs.
• 19:15
SPEAKER_00: Artists are releasing music every day, yeah.
• 19:17
SPEAKER_00: So there's definitely an artist that's gonna reach out to us in a month, you know, wanting us to promote their songs, so that's the most consistent.
• 19:25
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
• 19:26
SPEAKER_04: So let's take a successful creator right now.
• 19:29
SPEAKER_04: On the average, how much will a successful creator be making in a good month?
• 19:34
SPEAKER_04: And how much will they be making in a bad month?
• 19:38
  SPEAKER_00: A successful creator.
• 19:43
SPEAKER_00: That was an interesting question.
• 19:45
SPEAKER_00: A successful creator could make close to a hundred thousand a month.
• 19:50
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yeah, they could make close to a hundred thousand a month because maybe they're making money on Snapchat, they're making money on YouTube, they're making money from brands, they're making money from you know, yeah.
• 20:02
  SPEAKER_00: So that's a good month.
• 20:03
  SPEAKER_00: That's a good month.
• 20:04
SPEAKER_00: How about a bad man?
• 20:05
SPEAKER_00: A bad month could be like a tanky, like a tanky, yeah.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you can fall anywhere in between there.
• 20:13
  SPEAKER_03: It's good.
• 20:14
SPEAKER_00: You know, a bad man could be like a tanky.
• 20:15
SPEAKER_00: That means that maybe every other thing didn't source it.
• 20:19
SPEAKER_00: Maybe probably YouTube did well, or you know, you probably got one brand new.
• 20:23
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, yeah.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_04: You know, I keep talking about this guy.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_04: You know, when I started Masterminds, um, somebody commented, this guy have to find you.
• 20:30
SPEAKER_04: Hey, if you are watching me right now, I'm looking for you.
• 20:32
SPEAKER_04: He commented under Masterminds and said, I've inspired him to continue his content creation journey.
• 20:39
SPEAKER_04: He said he finished school and he's not getting a job, so he started posting on YouTube and he's making about 10,000 CDs a month.
• 20:47
  SPEAKER_04: Wow.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, bro, who needs a job then?
• 20:53
  SPEAKER_04: Yes, because that's good.
• 20:54
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's okay.
• 20:55
SPEAKER_04: And I and I watch his content and he shoots with his phone.
• 20:58
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it's not he's not even shooting himself, he's shooting other people, yeah, and he's making 10,000 a month.
• 21:04
SPEAKER_04: So I think the opportunities there that people don't realize.
• 21:08
SPEAKER_04: Somebody's probably watching this guy's contents right now.
• 21:11
SPEAKER_04: I have to find your name and put it in the comments or more people will watch.
• 21:15
SPEAKER_04: Somebody's watching his contents right now and they don't know that these opportunities are there.
• 21:21
  SPEAKER_00: True, true.
• 21:22
SPEAKER_00: The the possibilities are limitless.
• 21:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the how big my dances have become.
• 21:31
SPEAKER_00: I mean, if anybody touring the world, you know.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_00: You know, I have a dancer that's close to like a 40 million followers.
• 21:38
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 21:39
SPEAKER_00: If you put like all of the whole collective together, we have close to like 70 million followers.
• 21:43
  SPEAKER_04: Wow, 70 million.
• 21:45
  SPEAKER_00: That's that's wild.
• 21:46
SPEAKER_04: You know, people are chasing Mr.
• 21:47
  SPEAKER_04: B small follower.
• 21:48
SPEAKER_00: You know, that's wild because it's from a uh especially especially in a space where nobody saw dancers as you know, yeah big talent, or nobody, you know, kind of like gave Them their spotlight.
• 22:06
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can't say some things, but they are working with big, big, big, big brands.
• 22:10
SPEAKER_04: You know, and oh, but you can mention the popular ones, the ones that we've made up in the past, you know.
• 22:14
SPEAKER_00: Just for instance, um, recently Endurance stared in a movie by Fisherman.
• 22:20
SPEAKER_00: And I mean, it's won awards, she's been touring the world with the movie.
• 22:24
SPEAKER_00: She's featuring another very big movie that's not out yet.
• 22:27
SPEAKER_00: You know, so it's it's it's trust me, don't give up on whatever you're doing.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what it is, it doesn't matter how small it is, it will definitely blow up all yeah once you put the right energy and then the right mindset behind it.
• 22:41
SPEAKER_04: I like how you said that.
• 22:42
SPEAKER_04: Don't give up on whatever you're doing.
• 22:44
SPEAKER_04: I think the mistake most people make is that oh, they are watching this interview, Cobbles is talking about dance industry, talking about someone making 100,000, hey, I'm going to dance.
• 22:55
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 22:55
SPEAKER_04: But they don't realize that when you and the people you were bringing in got in, it wasn't making this money.
• 23:01
SPEAKER_00: So it could be anything.
• 23:02
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 23:03
  SPEAKER_00: It could be anything.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_00: It could be, I was telling somebody yesterday, I know someone that sells fools.
• 23:12
SPEAKER_00: And the person started by selling, you know, small, small.
• 23:16
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 23:16
SPEAKER_00: And now the person imports containers.
• 23:19
SPEAKER_00: You know, like 12 to 15 containers.
• 23:22
SPEAKER_00: And that's starting small, and now it's so big.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_00: And the person is really rich.
• 23:27
SPEAKER_00: You know, so it doesn't matter what you're doing, doesn't matter if you're there's this this um the zip.
• 23:33
SPEAKER_00: You know, there's most of the time the zip that we wear, right?
• 23:35
  SPEAKER_00: There's this thing I see on a Y2 something.
• 23:38
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it's called.
• 23:38
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 23:39
SPEAKER_00: But it's like there's a brand that actually produces zips, but nobody knows the brand.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_00: They don't need to come out.
• 23:45
SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they're making millions, you know.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_00: So it doesn't matter how big pen.
• 23:48
SPEAKER_04: You know, they've never done adverts.
• 23:50
  SPEAKER_04: Never.
• 23:52
SPEAKER_04: You know, I think that's the most arrogant brand in the world.
• 23:56
  SPEAKER_04: Big pen.
• 23:56
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 23:57
SPEAKER_04: No adverts, no billboards, they've never changed their design, nothing.
• 24:03
  SPEAKER_04: Never.
• 24:03
  SPEAKER_00: Same, same design.
• 24:04
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 24:05
SPEAKER_00: Same design from way back.
• 24:06
  SPEAKER_00: And crazy.
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_00: They're still selling.
• 24:08
SPEAKER_04: And one thing I like about the creator economy is you know, it's exciting because most jobs are, sorry to say, one way.
• 24:17
SPEAKER_04: Like if you want to go into finance, there are very few options.
• 24:20
SPEAKER_04: You're either going to work in a bank, you're going to be an auditor, you know, finance manager.
• 24:24
SPEAKER_04: If you want to work in medicine, you're either a doctor, you're a pharmacist, or you're like there's limits.
• 24:30
SPEAKER_04: But when it comes to the creator economy, anything you want to be, it fits there.
• 24:36
SPEAKER_04: Look at me, I'm doing a podcast.
• 24:37
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 24:38
  SPEAKER_04: Who would have thought?
• 24:38
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 24:39
SPEAKER_04: And if I look at it from my point of view, I've always liked sharing knowledge.
• 24:43
SPEAKER_04: I do it to my people.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_04: You see, before you came, I was standing here chatting with my people, telling them things that I've learned and stuff.
• 24:49
SPEAKER_04: So the fact that the internet and my cameras and my set design team allows me to be able to share knowledge.
• 24:58
  SPEAKER_04: That's my thing.
• 24:59
  SPEAKER_04: I get excited.
• 25:00
  SPEAKER_04: Doing it.
• 25:01
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 25:01
SPEAKER_04: Somebody else, um, like headless YouTuber was telling me a story about a guy who came to him asking him, he wants to be a creator, what should he do?
• 25:09
SPEAKER_04: What should he post about?
• 25:10
SPEAKER_04: And he told him, Post about anything you like.
• 25:13
SPEAKER_04: He met the guy like three months later, and the guy's YouTube channel was already monetized.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_04: And he said, Hey, wow, what are you posting about?
• 25:20
  SPEAKER_04: He works Lotto.
• 25:26
  SPEAKER_04: He works Lotto.
• 25:27
  SPEAKER_04: Wow.
• 25:28
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_04: So anybody can be anything really now.
• 25:32
  SPEAKER_00: Anything.
• 25:33
SPEAKER_04: I've I've seen people, I've seen uh I've seen this person, the spiritual doctor.
• 25:41
SPEAKER_00: It could be anything, you know.
• 25:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it could be anything.
• 25:47
SPEAKER_00: And I think that the people need to know that you you have to learn every day, yeah.
• 25:52
SPEAKER_00: In in whatever space you find yourself.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_00: Like, for instance, with the people that I manage, in the beginning, I had to pay attention to how the platforms work.
• 26:03
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 26:04
SPEAKER_00: Instagram, I realized that in the beginning, when we posted videos with the edited sound, with the artist song, it was never doing well.
• 26:13
  SPEAKER_00: It wasn't doing well.
• 26:13
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
• 26:14
SPEAKER_00: So now I made sure that we posted the videos without editing the sound on it.
• 26:18
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 26:18
SPEAKER_00: And uh, we used back then, like this is like five, six years ago, we're always going viral because and and I think because of the copyright, that's why maybe the platforms were not pushing the videos.
• 26:28
  SPEAKER_00: You understand?
• 26:29
SPEAKER_00: So you have to pay attention to the platforms to know what will work and what will not work.
• 26:36
SPEAKER_00: Uh, YouTube back then, I have a channel that has like um almost 400,000 subscribers, right?
• 26:42
  SPEAKER_00: It's called Q17, the company I call it.
• 26:44
SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I was just posting every day, okay, every single day.
• 26:50
SPEAKER_00: And the video will probably get 50 views or probably get 100 views.
• 26:54
SPEAKER_00: Now, if I go back to look at the videos I posted seven years ago, they have like 500,000 views, 1 million views.
• 27:00
SPEAKER_00: So once with the 50 views, which is crazy because I'm like, when did the blow up actually come?
• 27:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it was just consistent work for years, and now once the blow up came, everybody went back to look at everything that we have created.
• 27:13
  SPEAKER_00: True.
• 27:14
  SPEAKER_00: You understand?
• 27:14
SPEAKER_00: But some people start when they're probably getting low views on us so much, and they stop because they're like, I'm probably wasting my time.
• 27:23
SPEAKER_00: But I'm telling you, that and that platform is almost 400,000 subscribers.
• 27:27
SPEAKER_00: It's not easy to grow, subscribe.
• 27:28
SPEAKER_04: I went to go and check it out.
• 27:29
  SPEAKER_04: Right, right.
• 27:29
SPEAKER_04: Let me let me check it out right now.
• 27:31
  SPEAKER_00: Q17 Dynasty.
• 27:32
  SPEAKER_04: Q17 Dynasty.
• 27:34
SPEAKER_04: So, what do you post there, guys?
• 27:37
SPEAKER_04: Check it out with me.
• 27:38
SPEAKER_04: Oh no, you can't leave here.
• 27:39
SPEAKER_04: We'll check it out later.
• 27:40
  SPEAKER_04: Q17 Dynasty.
• 27:45
  SPEAKER_00: How many subscribers?
• 27:46
  SPEAKER_04: 358k.
• 27:49
SPEAKER_00: Yes, wow, and this channel was created years ago.
• 27:53
SPEAKER_00: What's the most popular video?
• 27:55
  SPEAKER_04: Let me see.
• 27:56
  SPEAKER_04: Most popular video.
• 27:59
SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying most popular, but I'm seeing 164k.
• 28:04
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, most popular videos.
• 28:06
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, 1.3 million 922k, 695k, 562k, 50.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_04: Oh, this boy is cashing out.
• 28:16
SPEAKER_04: Please, my memo number is just you know, but these videos didn't do um when they were requested, yes.
• 28:24
SPEAKER_00: So it was just consistent work every day, and then with time, you know, everything just so what sort of systems do you put in place to maintain the type of consistency?
• 28:35
SPEAKER_04: Because look, when I open, let's say TikTok, my for you page is filled with DWP.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_04: How are you managing to maintain this type of consistency?
• 28:45
SPEAKER_04: First, you've proved that you've done it with yourself, and now you're also showing it with your talent.
• 28:49
SPEAKER_04: How do you manage that?
• 28:51
SPEAKER_00: Um I mean, I think I the energy I give the dancers, they'll also like you know, probably they're also uh exhibiting the same, you know.
• 29:01
SPEAKER_00: Coming from a space where no, like you were not making anything, and now you have gotten your condition.
• 29:08
SPEAKER_00: This is not the time to slow down, to slow down, you know, and it is a lot of people are also learning, you know, in this same space.
• 29:16
SPEAKER_00: So we have to work as twice as hard as we used to to still, you know, stay relevant or to still make people want to see us as the top.
• 29:25
SPEAKER_04: Okay, right now you're going to give us tips.
• 29:27
SPEAKER_04: I know that social media works so fast that maybe the person watching this video six months from now can't use it, but at least those watching for the next six months can use it.
• 29:36
SPEAKER_04: You're going to give me tips for each platform so that that young creator watching can also increase more.
• 29:42
SPEAKER_04: Let's start with let's start with here, YouTube.
• 29:45
SPEAKER_04: One of the biggest lessons I've learned in life and in business is that not everything deserves access to you.
• 29:52
SPEAKER_04: Your attention is valuable, your focus is valuable, and in this world full of noise and distraction, the ability to control your world is your true power.
• 30:04
SPEAKER_04: Lynx Reverb was designed for premium sound, complete silence, and amazing clarity.
• 30:11
SPEAKER_04: So head to any computer gamer shop or to our website, linkselectronics.com, down in the description, and grab yourself a headset now.
• 30:20
SPEAKER_04: Links Reverb, now that's clarity.
• 30:23
  SPEAKER_00: YouTube.
• 30:24
SPEAKER_00: Um YouTube, I'll say um shorts.
• 30:30
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 30:30
SPEAKER_00: Shorts is one of the best ways to grow the platform.
• 30:33
SPEAKER_00: It works just like TikTok.
• 30:34
SPEAKER_00: You can be like you can create your profile today, and before you realize your account has blown up.
• 30:39
SPEAKER_00: So posting more shorts would gain get the platform more subscribers.
• 30:45
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 30:45
SPEAKER_00: And then now these subscribers will end up going to watch the longer the longer videos.
• 30:48
SPEAKER_00: And the longer videos, the only way you can make money from them if it's the video, if the video is probably more than 13 minutes.
• 30:53
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 30:54
SPEAKER_00: You know, if it's less than 10 minutes or something, it changes, right?
• 30:59
  SPEAKER_00: It's more than 10 minutes.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_00: You cannot probably um you can monetize it, but but the revenue won't be that much.
• 31:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, revenue will not be that much.
• 31:05
SPEAKER_00: But when it's more than 10 minutes, then you make more money.
• 31:09
SPEAKER_04: Because they pay you per how long the person watches.
• 31:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or how many ads play on the video.
• 31:13
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
• 31:14
SPEAKER_00: Yes, but how many ads play on the video?
• 31:16
  SPEAKER_00: So that's YouTube.
• 31:17
  SPEAKER_00: So post more shots.
• 31:19
SPEAKER_04: So let's say how many shots would you say that somebody should post?
• 31:22
SPEAKER_00: I'll probably say post a shot every day.
• 31:24
SPEAKER_00: A short every day, okay.
• 31:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, post a shot every day and be pay attention to like um trending sounds.
• 31:30
SPEAKER_00: So you could probably post a short and then clickbait, you know, you probably know that okay, um, this is a trending hashtag.
• 31:39
SPEAKER_00: So when you post, you use those hashtags.
• 31:41
SPEAKER_00: So if probably which means I trended, and then I post the video, the hashtag is not good.
• 31:48
SPEAKER_00: No, there's a way to put hashtags without putting the hashtags in the description.
• 31:51
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I'll put which means as a tag, I'll probably put you know, black or probably put Ghana.
• 31:58
SPEAKER_04: So when somebody searches that it pops out, there's a probability my video might pop out.
• 32:03
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you know, so it's just trying these little little things, and then your video will end up showing on somebody's feed.
• 32:08
SPEAKER_00: Once the content is good, they stay with you.
• 32:10
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, interesting.
• 32:12
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so that's YouTube, YouTube.
• 32:13
SPEAKER_04: Now let's go to TikTok.
• 32:15
  SPEAKER_00: TikTok.
• 32:15
SPEAKER_00: Um TikTok is very easy to blow up.
• 32:20
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you have to pay attention to what's trending or what's you know happening around you, and then you know, uh tap into that.
• 32:31
SPEAKER_00: I don't want to say because I'm a dancers, I don't want to say everybody should use maybe trending sound, but if you you can be talking in your video, right?
• 32:39
SPEAKER_00: But once you put under a sound that's trending, and then you mute the sound so that people hear you speaking.
• 32:46
SPEAKER_00: Now, if people go and they're watching the videos under that sound, they might probably see your video and probably click it and they learn something, you know.
• 32:54
  SPEAKER_00: So that's one way.
• 32:55
  SPEAKER_00: Also using trending sounds.
• 32:56
SPEAKER_00: This one you can actually put a sound and let people hear, you know.
• 33:00
SPEAKER_00: Hashtags also work on TikTok.
• 33:02
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you know, so if um as independence day and you join that that trend and you use the hashtag independence day, the probability of a video being seen is higher than just posting it without it.
• 33:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I think another thing that probably works on TikTok is when you record a video directly on the app.
• 33:20
SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, when you record a video directly on the app, the probability of it seen is higher than when it's a video film.
• 33:28
SPEAKER_04: So guys, all of those throw away our cameras, I'll be recording on TikTok.
• 33:33
SPEAKER_00: All of those, all of those things help.
• 33:35
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't mean that when you record a video before you post it, it might not do what it can.
• 33:39
SPEAKER_00: It's just probabilities, the probabilities, you know.
• 33:41
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the probabilities.
• 33:43
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so TikTok to give me frequency, how often do you think someone should post on TikTok?
• 33:48
SPEAKER_00: I'll probably say in the when you create a fresh account, I think you should post every day.
• 33:52
SPEAKER_00: Okay, when you create a new account, you should post every day.
• 33:55
SPEAKER_00: Once the following starts coming, then you can probably space it out and say, okay, maybe once every two days.
• 34:00
SPEAKER_00: Okay, but every day for your fresh account.
• 34:03
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 34:04
  unknown: Okay.
• 34:05
SPEAKER_04: Let's go to let's go to the toughest one Instagram.
• 34:08
SPEAKER_00: Instagram, yeah, Instagram is one of the toughest ones.
• 34:10
SPEAKER_00: But that's where we actually blew up.
• 34:11
SPEAKER_00: We blew up on Instagram before like TikTok and everything came.
• 34:16
SPEAKER_00: Instagram is very dicey right now because of the algorithm.
• 34:20
SPEAKER_00: Because before it was more about the followers, but now it's about your interest.
• 34:25
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you see somebody with four million followers, they post, then it's like 100 videos.
• 34:30
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's big.
• 34:31
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 34:32
SPEAKER_00: Because they gain all of those followers at the time where followers really mattered.
• 34:35
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 34:36
SPEAKER_00: But now they are not gaining a lot of it's like when you follow somebody right now, when the person posts, that's what shows on your home feed.
• 34:43
SPEAKER_00: Because the platform sees you things you're interested in the person.
• 34:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they show you the person's content.
• 34:50
SPEAKER_00: But you're following the person five years ago, they're not going to show it.
• 34:54
SPEAKER_00: They might be posting every day and their content is not showing on your on your on your feed.
• 34:58
  SPEAKER_00: So it's very dicey.
• 35:00
SPEAKER_00: I think timing is also very important on Instagram.
• 35:02
SPEAKER_00: Oh, you have to pay attention to what time works for you.
• 35:05
  SPEAKER_00: Works.
• 35:06
SPEAKER_00: Because maybe when you post, so there's something I do called A-B testing.
• 35:09
SPEAKER_00: I can probably post in the morning, post in the afternoon, and post in the evening.
• 35:13
SPEAKER_00: Okay, and then see which time works best.
• 35:16
SPEAKER_00: Once I find out what time works best for me, that's the time frame I'm usually posting.
• 35:23
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 35:24
  SPEAKER_04: Interesting.
• 35:24
SPEAKER_04: I haven't considered the timing factor before.
• 35:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the time, the time, the time really matters.
• 35:30
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you see my page start doing well.
• 35:32
  SPEAKER_04: I'm right now.
• 35:34
SPEAKER_04: Let me write them down.
• 35:35
SPEAKER_04: Is there any other platform forgetting?
• 35:37
  SPEAKER_04: Hey, Facebook, Facebook.
• 35:38
SPEAKER_04: A way people have forgotten about Facebook.
• 35:40
SPEAKER_04: Facebook is for the old people.
• 35:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't pay attention to Facebook as much now, but I know it's one of the is it's the biggest platform.
• 35:50
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 35:50
SPEAKER_00: Right now, I just post and leave.
• 35:53
SPEAKER_00: You don't pay attention to leave.
• 35:56
SPEAKER_00: But because I I think what's happening with our Facebook pages is the audience we are growing on all of our platforms are transcending to Facebook.
• 36:05
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 36:06
SPEAKER_00: So because maybe I can have maybe 30 million on TikTok, there's a percentage of them that's also following me.
• 36:13
  SPEAKER_00: On Facebook.
• 36:15
SPEAKER_04: So they'll see it on TikTok.
• 36:16
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 36:16
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 36:17
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 36:18
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 36:19
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 36:19
SPEAKER_04: Now, these platforms, what are the challenges that a Ghanaian creator is going to face on these platforms?
• 36:28
SPEAKER_04: Because the truth of the matter is they weren't made with us in mind.
• 36:33
SPEAKER_04: So, what are some of the challenges that as Ghanaians, or let me not say Ghanaians, let me not limit it because I have a lot of African viewers.
• 36:41
SPEAKER_04: What are the challenges Africans are facing on these platforms?
• 36:46
SPEAKER_00: YouTube, for instance, you can in this space, you can make you can get a hundred thousand views, and the amount of money you make is very small as compared to somebody that lives in the state.
• 36:56
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 36:57
SPEAKER_00: You know, so you find creators putting in so much effort and the revenue that they make is very twice as hard as somebody in a different, you know, in a different space.
• 37:11
SPEAKER_04: So the revenue is based on is it the revenue based on where your channel was created or based on where they are watching you?
• 37:20
  SPEAKER_00: Both.
• 37:21
SPEAKER_00: I think also based based really based on where they are watching you.
• 37:24
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 37:25
SPEAKER_00: You know, um the um there's something called is it CPM or LPM?
• 37:33
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the CPM.
• 37:33
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the CPM, right?
• 37:35
SPEAKER_00: If if the uh and also based on where you find yourself, truth, yeah, where you find yourself also matters because where you find yourself would the determine the kind of ads that will show true, the kind of ads that will show.
• 37:48
SPEAKER_00: So if the companies the ad spend is low, the you're not making so much, right?
• 37:55
SPEAKER_00: But if the brands are spending so much on ads, then you as a big creator is gonna make you know more.
• 38:02
SPEAKER_00: So where and the people that watch you, you know, a platform like Instagram, we don't make money from it, so you find creators creating so much content, but having a lot of followers, having a lot of views, and they don't make revenue from so that means in the creator economy, it's very possible to be super popular and not making any possible.
• 38:22
SPEAKER_00: You know, you have to be strategic to be able to channel all of that influence, all of that followers into you know revenue.
• 38:32
SPEAKER_00: If you don't, you'll be popular and not make anything.
• 38:34
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 38:35
SPEAKER_04: Let me ask you this question are influencers influential?
• 38:40
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, they are.
• 38:41
SPEAKER_00: I think they are because they're um, but not every influencer is influential.
• 38:47
SPEAKER_00: Okay, I think you can be an influencer in your own space, you know, and I don't like to say something because you look like I'm I'm you know because you can you can you can actually be very popular on TikTok and nobody else knows you are out of that space, yeah.
• 39:10
SPEAKER_00: You can actually be very popular on Twitter and nobody knows you're out of that space, yeah.
• 39:14
SPEAKER_00: So uh but there's influences that try it transcends from the platform today their physical presence, you know.
• 39:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so and they can probably cause you know an action or cause somebody to make a change, yeah, you know, or probably make a purchase.
• 39:32
SPEAKER_00: But if you're popular and if you see um I use this brand, everybody else should try it.
• 39:40
SPEAKER_00: Nobody tries it, then they just follow you.
• 39:42
SPEAKER_00: They don't have you don't have any influence on them.
• 39:44
SPEAKER_04: I think that's one thing that a lot of brands are suffering with when they try and work with influencers, they don't understand there's a difference between attention and influence.
• 39:54
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, I was talking to somebody about this not too long ago that certain people I'm watching you for entertainment purposes only.
• 40:03
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm watching you because maybe you make me laugh or you distract me or something like that.
• 40:08
SPEAKER_04: It doesn't mean I will actually follow you into doing something.
• 40:14
SPEAKER_04: So I think the reason that brands and influencers have fights is they don't know when to look for attention versus when to look for influence.
• 40:26
SPEAKER_04: Because let's say maybe, oh, I'm launching something, I'm releasing something.
• 40:31
SPEAKER_04: I want everybody to hear that I'm releasing it.
• 40:35
SPEAKER_04: So I go for certain types of influencers who will give me attention.
• 40:39
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's it.
• 40:41
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, awareness.
• 40:42
SPEAKER_04: Thank you, awareness versus I'm selling something, so I'm looking for an influencer and make people buy.
• 40:49
  SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
• 40:50
SPEAKER_04: So now you see brands go to influencers who have attention and they want people and they want them to buy.
• 40:57
SPEAKER_04: Then they now come complaining, oh, the KPIs are not being met, and you know, our targets are this, and it's like that's not.
• 41:04
SPEAKER_00: And then they decide not to work with influencers again.
• 41:06
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
• 41:06
SPEAKER_00: They say influencers are not influential, you know.
• 41:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's the choices that they make because it's sometimes it's then they just look at the numbers, it's not really the value or yeah, if the person can be able to translate that into sales, you know.
• 41:20
SPEAKER_04: So they have to do their research to choose exact, you know, the right people for whatever campaign that they're running, and also sometimes maybe what brands should realize is maybe it's not the influencer's job to give you the sales, it's the influencer's job to shine a touchlight on your campaign so that if your campaign is deserving, people die into it, you know.
• 41:46
SPEAKER_04: Like um, if I'm driving around and I see a billboard and you've put a black star player on the billboard, I am not going to go and buy the product because of the black star player.
• 41:57
SPEAKER_04: But what happens is because I recognize his face, I will now look at the billboard.
• 42:03
SPEAKER_04: And if your artwork is right, if your messaging is right, if it's something I'm looking for, then I'll go.
• 42:10
SPEAKER_04: So the player did not sell the product to me.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_00: It's your job to be able to sell, exactly.
• 42:17
SPEAKER_04: But they don't understand that part, and they are thinking once I've put it in your hands, you have to give me sales.
• 42:30
SPEAKER_00: Because you if if the billboard is not looking very good, if the design is not nice, then I'll not look, I'll not believe in the brand.
• 42:40
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that nobody will care about it.
• 42:42
SPEAKER_04: You know, it's it's it's the same thing with let's say like me bringing music to DWP to promote fun.
• 42:49
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I can pay you as much as I want.
• 42:52
SPEAKER_04: We can do whatever we can do, we can post 20 times a day.
• 42:55
SPEAKER_04: If the people don't like the song, they don't like the song.
• 42:58
  SPEAKER_00: True.
• 42:59
  SPEAKER_04: It's nothing I can do 100.
• 43:02
SPEAKER_04: We've seen songs that have had 50 dancers doing a campaign not hit.
• 43:08
SPEAKER_04: And we've seen songs that one dancer posted once and it went viral.
• 43:14
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so yeah, that that conversation really needs to be had.
• 43:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because a lot of people pay us to do promote their songs, right?
• 43:25
SPEAKER_00: And they're expecting the same result as every other song that they've seen us promote.
• 43:30
SPEAKER_00: But they forget that you know the consumers choose what they want.
• 43:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, if the song is not as good as song A, the reaction is going to be different.
• 43:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, so we can create the most beautiful dance challenge or the nicest dance to your song, but how people react to it, we can't predict.
• 43:49
  SPEAKER_00: We can't predict.
• 43:50
SPEAKER_04: I think this is something I think I understand this because I learned it when running a record label.
• 43:56
SPEAKER_04: I always said my job as a record label boy.
• 44:00
SPEAKER_04: Is not to make a hit song.
• 44:02
SPEAKER_04: My job is to give the song and the artist a platform and enough attention for people to see and decide if they want it.
• 44:13
  SPEAKER_04: Do you get me?
• 44:14
SPEAKER_04: I can't make somebody like your music, I can't make somebody dance to your music.
• 44:17
SPEAKER_04: What I can do is I can put it on radio, I can put it in the clubs, I can put it on TV, I can put it on social media so that when they see, they make that decision.
• 44:26
SPEAKER_04: So if I fail to put it in front of the audience, then I fail to do my job.
• 44:32
SPEAKER_04: But if I put it in front of the people and they still don't like it, then it's not you.
• 44:38
SPEAKER_00: That one is not you.
• 44:40
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 44:41
  SPEAKER_00: 100%.
• 44:41
SPEAKER_04: But I see I see these fights a lot, you know, where people say, I gave them my money, I paid, can you imagine I paid them 70,000 and my song didn't hit?
• 44:50
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 44:51
  SPEAKER_00: That's it.
• 44:51
SPEAKER_00: That's the fight we have with you know a lot of artists.
• 44:54
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, what you're saying, true.
• 44:56
SPEAKER_00: If you if you you put a song, because imagine you give the song to GWP to promote, and then we do our best, but you don't put it on radio, you don't put it on TV, you don't put it somewhere else.
• 45:09
SPEAKER_00: That means that we are only promoting to a specific audience, and it probably might end there.
• 45:16
SPEAKER_00: But if you put in all of these spaces, then the somebody knows okay, they had it here, they've seen it on TV, they've seen it on radio.
• 45:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they might end up, you know.
• 45:27
SPEAKER_04: Do you think there's a way we can educate, especially people in these types of spaces, to understand?
• 45:33
SPEAKER_04: You know, you're you're talking system thinking, like as you're talking right now, like how you mentioned, yeah, you've given a song to DWP, but is it on radio?
• 45:40
  SPEAKER_04: Is it on TV?
• 45:42
SPEAKER_04: Is it only in dance spaces or is it in other spaces?
• 45:46
SPEAKER_04: How do we educate people to think systems instead of just try your luck?
• 45:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because if if let me even go back to the the social media platform, it's a software, right?
• 45:59
SPEAKER_00: There's not somebody that's sitting behind saying that this video should blow, yeah, this video should blow.
• 46:04
  SPEAKER_00: It's a software, so it's a system.
• 46:07
SPEAKER_00: If you're able to figure out the system and put your content in the system the right way, then you'll fly.
• 46:14
SPEAKER_00: But if you are doing anything, so probably there's keywords that maybe when you use in your caption, it's not gonna blow up because yeah, the platform has tagged them as you know, yeah.
• 46:25
SPEAKER_00: There's keywords that probably let's say you use the the hashtag happy or you write happy.
• 46:30
SPEAKER_00: It's a keyword that probably TikTok will probably you know push because then that means the content is gonna make people happy, you know.
• 46:38
SPEAKER_00: So systems definitely, you know, like if you follow the system, then you're gonna get you know the right results.
• 46:47
SPEAKER_00: But in the space that we find ourselves to, you need the money to be able to follow the system.
• 46:50
  SPEAKER_00: It's not easy, though.
• 46:52
SPEAKER_00: Because you can't pay GWP and somebody doesn't have the money to pay GWP, P Radio, P the Club, P.
• 46:58
SPEAKER_04: Nobody has the money for that.
• 46:58
  SPEAKER_04: It's not easy.
• 47:00
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's how I've stopped.
• 47:05
SPEAKER_04: This should be the highlight of the buttons know how expensive it is to promote very expensive because I started managing the the dancers, I have artists as well, right?
• 47:21
SPEAKER_00: And um, even though I have the dancers to be able to promote them, I know I can't leave it to just the dancers.
• 47:27
SPEAKER_00: I have to pay the DJs, I have to before even the song comes out, there's a lot of money I have to pay before the music even comes out.
• 47:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, imagine spending so much money on production, video, and everything.
• 47:38
SPEAKER_04: And then there's nothing, and I think people don't realize the worst part about creative work is when it feels, it feels yeah.
• 47:47
SPEAKER_04: See, like let's say right now, I'm selling headphones, right?
• 47:51
SPEAKER_04: Wow, I have one of these, you know.
• 47:52
SPEAKER_04: Oh, thank you, thank you.
• 47:54
SPEAKER_04: So as I'm selling headphones, my headphones are in a warehouse.
• 47:57
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, if you are ready to come and buy the headphone, you buy it.
• 48:01
SPEAKER_04: You know, if you are not ready to buy it, oh no, next month come.
• 48:04
SPEAKER_04: The headphones are still there, you can still buy it.
• 48:06
  SPEAKER_04: It doesn't get finished, it's there.
• 48:09
SPEAKER_04: The problem with creativity is so like when you are doing, let's say, products and other types of businesses, the the core material is still there to be exploited later.
• 48:20
SPEAKER_04: Problem with creativity, when it fails, it's filled, it's filled.
• 48:24
SPEAKER_00: Like if you there's no returning to your unless you you have to continue.
• 48:27
SPEAKER_00: Yes, just continue and just keep spending, spending.
• 48:31
SPEAKER_04: You know, if if you spend plenty of money and shoot an amazing music video, pay good actors, killer cameras, do all this, and the video gets 10 views on YouTube.
• 48:43
SPEAKER_04: There's nothing you can do.
• 48:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's nothing you can do about it.
• 48:46
SPEAKER_00: It's not coming back, it's not coming back.
• 48:49
SPEAKER_04: Can't go and sell the the music.
• 48:50
SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
• 48:52
  SPEAKER_00: You can't do that.
• 48:53
SPEAKER_00: But like you're saying, with the product, it's there, so you can always, you know, it does it's not expiring.
• 48:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you understand, but the the the the content or whatever they have created, if you're even bringing it trying to repost it another time, it will be like, ah, we are near old video, you know.
• 49:12
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's gone.
• 49:14
SPEAKER_04: And so, how do we secure the security for talents?
• 49:18
SPEAKER_04: I think that's one thing that talents have always suffered with.
• 49:21
SPEAKER_04: Let's even take those who hit big.
• 49:24
SPEAKER_04: The question for them is how are they able to sustain themselves when they are past their prime?
• 49:32
SPEAKER_00: I think that they should all learn for rich men, sir.
• 49:35
SPEAKER_00: Because yeah, I tell my talents all the time that you need to be able to channel whatever audience or whatever you have into something that you can sell because you cannot dance forever, or you can probably maybe you can dance forever, even when you're old, you can still dance, but you cannot be in your prime forever.
• 49:53
SPEAKER_00: So whatever audience or or influence that you've built, you need to channel it into a business or a product or something, and that's how you can, you know, live, live, live on when you are not in your prime, exactly, you know, because if you stay just dancing and you don't channel that into anything else, somebody else is gonna come overtake you.
• 50:16
SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be so many new talents that are gonna come up, and because it's a part of life, yeah, it's a part of life.
• 50:21
SPEAKER_00: You're gonna grow old, yeah, the younger people are gonna have learns from you and are even doing better.
• 50:25
SPEAKER_04: So you have to and and I think the truth is you should feel good when the younger people are doing better, yeah.
• 50:32
SPEAKER_04: Because it's like you've inspired people to take it to the next level, yeah.
• 50:37
SPEAKER_04: But when you want to be like, hey, forever, forever, it doesn't work like that.
• 50:41
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
• 50:42
SPEAKER_04: And if you listen to the words of the great Jay-Z, I'm not a businessman, I'm a businessman.
• 50:49
SPEAKER_04: That thinking is understanding the fact that you have amassed some level of power and authority with what you've done over the years.
• 50:58
SPEAKER_04: Now you need to transform that into the next thing.
• 51:02
  SPEAKER_04: Do you get me?
• 51:02
SPEAKER_04: But so many people are fixated on their prime that they don't build anything on top of it.
• 51:08
SPEAKER_04: Like creators, I'm talking to all of you creators out there, they they need to understand the fact that the attention, the influence, everything you are building is building up a brand that you can use in other ways, monetize in any way that you like.
• 51:22
SPEAKER_04: So many different ways, yeah.
• 51:23
  SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
• 51:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and with with the people that I started with, so I started managing just dance god and afrobies, right?
• 51:29
SPEAKER_00: And that's why how we created GWP Academy, because we're thinking that they are not going to be in their prime forever.
• 51:36
SPEAKER_00: So we have to create a system that so many create like creative dancers or dancers can pass through, and whatever we have created doesn't end, you know.
• 51:46
SPEAKER_00: So there's that's why there's different generations of GWP Academy dancers.
• 51:50
SPEAKER_00: There's kids that are like six years to 12 years, and they are also gonna grow, and it's another generation that's gonna pass through and you know it lives.
• 51:58
SPEAKER_04: So you they are sorted for life.
• 51:59
SPEAKER_04: Your children will come to inherit GWP making money.
• 52:03
SPEAKER_04: You mean hey, but that's that's um page with the almost 400,000 subscribers.
• 52:08
  SPEAKER_04: You give me 10, just 10.
• 52:12
SPEAKER_00: You know, and and and the the if you check most of the dances, they are YouTube, they have like 600,000 subscribers averagely.
• 52:20
SPEAKER_00: Average, everybody has like 500k followers, right?
• 52:23
SPEAKER_00: And this is because we started years ago, yeah, and they were just posting continuously, continuously.
• 52:28
SPEAKER_00: Is we we didn't even have them in them in mind that we're gonna make so much money on YouTube because their views were very low, right?
• 52:37
SPEAKER_00: But we wanted to have an audience on every platform, yeah.
• 52:42
SPEAKER_00: You know, we wanted to have the influence on every single platform, we didn't want to leave it to just Instagram.
• 52:48
SPEAKER_00: So once a new platform came, trailer came, we all jumped on it.
• 52:51
  SPEAKER_00: Hey, trailer, trailer.
• 52:53
SPEAKER_00: I knew that was the next thing.
• 52:58
SPEAKER_00: We all jumped on it, we were posting heavily, and then TikTok came and then we moved there, and we we we we we killed it as well.
• 53:07
SPEAKER_00: So we we once any new platform that comes, we have to make sure that we have the influence there as well.

SPEAKER_04: Okay, so what is your long-term plan business-wise for DWP?
• 53:20
SPEAKER_00: Long term is to be able to like channel the the audience that we've um um amassed into like clothing.
• 53:28
SPEAKER_00: I mean, we already do that, but it's not on a large scale, you know.
• 53:31
SPEAKER_00: Um, we want to have like a school, uh, like the the the infrastructure itself and run it like a proper school, you know, so that we can have people from different countries come from exchange programs and everything, uh, and probably have like curriculums where like you know, you have um there's uh they're teaching you how like there's a computer lab, there's a support formalized academy, sports department, but that's the the the primary focus is dance, you know, like a proper proper school.
• 54:02
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a long term goal.
• 54:03
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, I'll be interested.
• 54:03
SPEAKER_04: If you are looking for partners, I'm here, right?
• 54:05
  SPEAKER_04: I'm looking for a partner.
• 54:06
  SPEAKER_04: I like that.
• 54:06
  SPEAKER_04: I like that.
• 54:07
  SPEAKER_00: I like that idea.
• 54:08
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a long-term goal.
• 54:10
SPEAKER_04: I want you to explain, I know you've said it many times, but DWP.
• 54:14
SPEAKER_04: I want you to explain the meaning behind DWP.
• 54:18
SPEAKER_00: Um, DWP means dance with a purpose.
• 54:21
SPEAKER_00: And like I said, I started this thing without knowing how to dance or knowing what their direction was going to be.
• 54:28
SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to, you know, help.
• 54:31
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 54:31
SPEAKER_00: And I started with dance.
• 54:34
SPEAKER_00: Now, I believe that whatever we're doing with this dance is gonna lead us somewhere, it's gonna help you find your purpose.
• 54:40
SPEAKER_00: Everybody's trying to find a purpose every day, yeah.
• 54:42
SPEAKER_00: So blow up through dance, but it's gonna lead you somewhere, and it's gonna help you find your purpose.
• 54:48
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
• 54:48
SPEAKER_04: You know, two days ago, I was on TikTok, and then I saw this old video of Champion Roley and Dem Z rapping.
• 54:56
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 54:56
SPEAKER_00: They used to do that.
• 54:58
SPEAKER_04: How do you feel when you see how far you've brought people?
• 55:03
  SPEAKER_00: Um, it's it's surreal.
• 55:06
  SPEAKER_00: Like it's I I don't know how to describe it.
• 55:09
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I just probably be in my own shell and I'll cry and I'll thank God.
• 55:17
SPEAKER_00: I'll thank God like you know that I chose this path and you know, He guided me to help people see their dreams come true.
• 55:26
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, um I'm happy and I'm I'm still here, so I'm gonna help more people's dreams come true.
• 55:32
  SPEAKER_03: I like that.
• 55:33
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like that.
• 55:34
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't end with the people that you know everybody knows right now.
• 55:38
SPEAKER_00: It's gonna continue until I'm not here anymore.
• 55:41
SPEAKER_04: Oh, well, you'll be here for long.
• 55:43
SPEAKER_04: Once you have a vision like that, what happens is the the world will conspire to help you help other people.
• 55:52
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you are somebody's guardian angel, yeah.
• 55:55
SPEAKER_04: So you need to keep going so that there's there's a six-year-old boy right now who's destined to become the greatest dancer in Africa.
• 56:05
SPEAKER_04: So you need to keep going to turn that boy into the greatest dancer, it's gonna happen.
• 56:10
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I see you if you could do things all over again.
• 56:16
SPEAKER_04: What would you do differently?
• 56:18
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 56:24
SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I I don't know if I would have gone the same path, but I know I'd still help people because that was the goal.
• 56:31
SPEAKER_00: The goal was to be able to use whatever influence I had to help people, and what I would have done was um, I don't think I would have done anything differently.
• 56:45
  SPEAKER_00: Because everything I did, I did with I I did with my 100%.
• 56:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, I did it with my 100%, and and um any mistake that I made, I think it was a lesson.
• 56:57
SPEAKER_00: So I don't think I would have done anything differently.
• 56:59
SPEAKER_04: That's the perfect answer, and that because that's the irony of life, you know.
• 57:03
SPEAKER_04: When we are in the middle of a bad situation, all we see is how bad the situation is, but then when we keep going, we realize that every bad situation is what has led us to the greatness, yeah, honestly.
• 57:18
SPEAKER_00: So I don't think I would have made anything because I did everything in my hand.
• 57:22
  SPEAKER_04: Well done, well done.
• 57:24
  SPEAKER_04: Do something for me.
• 57:25
SPEAKER_04: There's a young person out there watching you right now, and I want you to think what is the one piece of advice or mindset shift that you can drop in their mind that will take them on the path to be a mastermind.
• 57:42
SPEAKER_00: Most of the people that have managed came from like wild situations where they never didn't even believe that you know they will make it.
• 57:54
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 57:55
SPEAKER_00: Now they all they had was hope, all they had was to believe that you know they will make it, or they believe that okay, what I'm telling them is gonna like I'm telling you, you're gonna make it.
• 58:06
SPEAKER_00: Like just believe, just be consistent.
• 58:08
SPEAKER_00: And now they are the biggest, you know, dancers all over the world, they're traveling all over the world.
• 58:12
  SPEAKER_00: So don't give up.
• 58:15
SPEAKER_00: You can be in the most difficult situation, you can be in the most terrible situation, but don't give up because there's light at the end of the tunnel.
• 58:26
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, very nice.
• 58:27
SPEAKER_04: Look, if Ghana won't tell you enough, let me tell you, we're proud of what you do.
• 58:32
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we're grateful for all the people that you've put on, all the platforms that you keep putting Ghana on and helping us to shine.
• 58:39
SPEAKER_04: And I pray for long life for you so that you can keep doing this and move the entire creative economy forward.
• 58:46
SPEAKER_04: Okay, thank you so much.
• 58:47
SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, VG.
• 58:49
SPEAKER_00: And Viji, you've inspired me to do a lot and do another.
• 58:52
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, thank you.
• 58:53
  SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
• 58:54
  SPEAKER_04: By inspiring each other.
• 58:56
SPEAKER_04: Once again, I hope by watching this, we come two steps closer to being the mastermind.
• 59:04
SPEAKER_04: Thank you for watching this episode.
• 59:06
SPEAKER_04: Now, the mastermind's dream is about building a community of people who have the right mindset and are ready to take their success into their own hands.
• 59:16
SPEAKER_04: So do me this wonderful favor, subscribe and share with anybody out there who you believe you want to see have the right mindset to succeed so that together we can all become the masterminds we deserve to be.
