- 0:16Robert: the producer here. And today we have a, a rather
- 0:20Robert: short Classic Suze School for you.
- 0:23Robert: It's a short work week, so why not a short
- 0:25Robert: podcast episode? This one comes from a Labor Day themed
- 0:30Robert: podcast that we did a few years ago, and the
- 0:33Robert: main point that Suze makes, I think is very relevant today.
- 0:38Robert: So it's going back to the top of your feed.
- 0:42Robert: Suze and KT will be back with an all new
- 0:44Robert: Ask KT and Suze Anything podcast this coming Sunday. Remember,
- 0:48Robert: if you wanna write in and maybe get your question
- 0:51Robert: answered on the pod, send an email to podcast@askSuze.com That's
- 0:57Robert: podcast at A S K S U Z E.com. And now,
- 1:03Robert: here's Suze.
- 1:08Suze: I always think about holidays and what they mean, and
- 1:12Suze: are we celebrating them for the right purposes. So I
- 1:16Suze: always look up the definition of what Labor Day is
- 1:22Suze: a celebration about. And here's what it says. Labor Day
- 1:26Suze: is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements
- 1:31Suze: of American workers.
- 1:35Suze: And I thought about tha,t and I thought about that,
- 1:38Suze: and I thought about that.
- 1:40Suze: And then I got really sad.
- 1:43Suze: Because I realized the real reason you are celebrating isn't
- 1:48Suze: because you're celebrating your social and economic achievements of what
- 1:53Suze: you have accomplished. It's because you get a Monday off,
- 1:57Suze: which means you don't have to go to work. So,
- 2:03Suze: you are not celebrating your achievements at work. You are
- 2:07Suze: most likely not celebrating the fact that you have a job.
- 2:12Suze: And the reason for that is most likely you are
- 2:16Suze: not happy in your job. When I ask so many
- 2:22Suze: of you, and everywhere I go, I always say to somebody,
- 2:25Suze: I go, What do you do for a living? What
- 2:27Suze: da da da, all those questions that you ask one
- 2:30Suze: another when you don't really know what else to say
- 2:32Suze: to each other.
- 2:33Suze: I always end up asking them, are you happy in
- 2:38Suze: your job?
- 2:40Suze: They normally say to me, no, so I'm asking all
- 2:44Suze: of you right now.
- 2:46Suze: Are you happy in your job? Yes or no?
- 2:53Suze: So, if your answer happened to be no, the next
- 2:58Suze: question that I would ask these people, and you need
- 3:01Suze: to be asking yourself, is, why aren't you happy in
- 3:06Suze: your job?
- 3:08Suze: All right, for those of you who answered no, I
- 3:13Suze: want you to write down why you are not happy
- 3:16Suze: in your job.
- 3:18Suze: For those of you who answered yes, that you are
- 3:22Suze: happy in your job, I want you to write down
- 3:27Suze: why you are happy in your job.
- 3:31Suze: Now I don't know what you're going to write or not,
- 3:34Suze: but the most frequent answer that I would get when
- 3:38Suze: I asked that question was this Oh, Suze, I'm just
- 3:44Suze: not passionate about what I'm doing.
- 3:47Suze: I want to quit my job. I want to find
- 3:50Suze: a job that fulfills my passion.
- 3:54Suze: Any of you write that down?
- 3:56Suze: How many of you have written me and you've said,
- 3:58Suze: you know, Suze, I wanna quit this job that pays
- 4:01Suze: me a whole lot of money, because I wanna find
- 4:04Suze: a job that fulfills my passion. I'm looking to fulfill
- 4:09Suze: my passion.
- 4:12Suze: Hmm
- 4:13Suze: I have to say, I honestly have no idea where
- 4:17Suze: that concept of finding a job that you are passionate
- 4:21Suze: about came from.
- 4:24Suze: And that's what you're looking for, 'cause in my opinion,
- 4:27Suze: that is the worst advice I have ever heard. And
- 4:33Suze: if you've heard that advice, that's the worst advice, in
- 4:36Suze: my opinion, that you have ever heard. Now, why is that?
- 4:41Suze: That's because passion changes all the time.
- 4:47Suze: Not just in what you do, but even who you're
- 4:50Suze: in a relationship with. One day I hear you saying,
- 4:54Suze: I love this person, I love this person. Oh, Suze,
- 4:57Suze: I'm just so passionate about them.
- 4:59Suze: And then a while later you say to me, I
- 5:03Suze: hate this person. There's no passion between us whatsoever.
- 5:07Suze: And then, of course, you end up splitting up.
- 5:11Suze: You know what I'm saying is true. How many relationships
- 5:15Suze: have you been in that it was just so passionate.
- 5:19Suze: And it, was it the passion that you loved?
- 5:23Suze: Or did love create passion? Like, what was it, everybody?
- 5:29Suze: So, I then decided that I would look not only
- 5:34Suze: at my own life but I would look at the
- 5:37Suze: lives inwardly of all the people I worked with over
- 5:42Suze: all my years and what I learned was this they
- 5:49Suze: didn't love their job because they were passionate about what
- 5:52Suze: they did.
- 5:54Suze: They loved what they did because their job gave them meaning.
- 6:01Suze: And because they found meaning in their lives, that created passion.
- 6:08Suze: Passion doesn't create meaning, meaning creates passion.
- 6:16Suze: So the question that all of you need to be
- 6:19Suze: asking yourself is, what would give you meaning in your life?
- 6:28Suze: All right, everybody, that's a question for you. In your
- 6:31Suze: little Suze notebooks, how would you answer that? What would
- 6:36Suze: give you meaning in your life? And it's not just
- 6:42Suze: meaning today.
- 6:44Suze: Because as your life goes on, as your life changes,
- 6:49Suze: as the events in the world change, meaning will also change.
- 6:58Suze: All I ask is for you to think about what
- 7:01Suze: I have just said.
- 7:04Suze: For it's in finding your meaning that really leads to
- 7:09Suze: happiness in your work and in your life, and never
- 7:13Suze: forget meaning.
- 7:16Suze: Today may be different for you 5 years from now
- 7:20Suze: or 20 years from now, so don't be afraid to change.
- 7:26Suze: Please know there's only really one thing that I want
- 7:29Suze: you to say every single day.
- 7:33Suze: And on some level, this also will help give you
- 7:37Suze: meaning in your life.
- 7:40Suze: Today wherever I go I will create a more peaceful, joyful,
- 7:48Suze: and loving world, and if you do that.
- 7:52Suze: I promise you, you will be unstoppable. See you soon.
