The story of David and Mephibosheth is a profound picture of the Gospel. To understand it, we must look at the background of David and the House of Saul. After King Saul’s death, David eventually took the throne. In the ancient world, a new king would typically eradicate any remaining rivals from the previous dynasty. However, David sought out any survivors from Saul’s family—not to harm them, but to show them kindness for the sake of his beloved friend, Jonathan.
