- 0:24It's powerful and strong. It gives us direction.
- 0:29We're going to study out of Hebrews for the next hour and
- 0:32just go through some of the verses by verse, by verse and
- 0:37see what they mean and and kind of dissect some of them a little
- 0:42bit. We welcome your input.
- 0:45You could do that via the chat anytime you would like.
- 0:48We would address your questions or comments as we can throughout

- 1:08there Simply Christ podcast. So yeah, we'll get started
- 1:15tonight in Hebrews chapter 12. Verse 1 is going to be our
- 1:20starting verse, and we'll go through this a little bit out of
- 1:26time. Let's see.
- 1:27Dan, would you lead us to the word of prayer?
- 1:30Sure, Father, we look to You this evening.
- 1:33We look for your wisdom, for your grace, for your
- 1:35understanding. We do trust that Your Spirit is
- 1:38within us and that we are walking in Your will.
- 1:41We ask God that you would open up our understanding, help us to
- 1:45enunciate and speak clearly and to articulate our thoughts to
- 1:49Your glory. Keep us from saying things we
- 1:52ought not to. And I pray that You would make
- 1:54things more clear to us and especially to those people that
- 1:57are some of them of our background, of our persuasion,
- 2:01some people that are caught and lost in the religion.
- 2:04I pray that you would free them by the gospel and that the words
- 2:06we get through tonight would be an edification to believers and
- 2:10a challenge to those that are still stuck in religion.
- 2:13We do pray again, Father, for the tragedy of last week and the
- 2:16families and the the community that's hurting from that
- 2:19difficulty. We ask that you would be the God
- 2:21of all comfort to them during this time.
- 2:24We ask this all in Jesus name, Amen.
- 2:29For those of the you that are tuned in don't know what he was
- 2:32talking about is one of Andrew Strock's helpers got caught and
- 2:39died in an accident at his sawmill a couple weeks ago here.
- 2:43So keep them in your prayers. OK, so so busy visiting here
- 2:52prior to opening up that I wasn't paying much attention to
- 2:55the scriptures here, so I'll wig it.
- 2:58I know that we just got through the the faith chapter last week
- 3:01and we we talked just a little bit on chapter 12 verse one, but
- 3:06that's what we start again this week and I just really, really
- 3:11appreciate it. Last week we talked about having
- 3:15that, that cloud of witnesses and the weight that that wants
- 3:21to set in and, and draw us down and pull us back how that we can
- 3:27we can overcome that by the grace of God.
- 3:29And, and through these examples of faith or faithful faith
- 3:36filled people, we can see that sometimes it's a long haul.
- 3:41Sometimes we go a long ways through a dark tunnel before we
- 3:45seem to see any movement or anything changing.
- 3:49But that doesn't, you know, negate that we should still stay
- 3:53strong. And again, the the whole
- 3:54argument for the poker Hebrews is to not depart from the faith,
- 3:59even even if other things come up that seem to be working
- 4:03better at the moment. Don't hand off what you've been
- 4:07taught in the gospel for something flashy on the side.
- 4:11So I'll read verse one and I'll kick it over to you, Aaron.
- 4:16So obviously it says there. Wherefore, seeing we also are
- 4:20come passed about with so great a cloud of witnesses.
- 4:23Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily
- 4:28beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set
- 4:32before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of
- 4:35our faith do for the joy that was set before him endured the
- 4:39cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of
- 4:43the throne of God and we we're just kind of focus on verse one
- 4:46for now, but that was the complete sentence.
- 4:48I wanted to read it that way. And one thing that that that I
- 4:53wanted to point out real quick here is it says the sin which
- 4:57does so easily beset us and I'd want to say in my life that you
- 5:03know, I'm not sure that sin really easily besets me.
- 5:07You know, I'm I'm pretty good, but the fact is it does actually
- 5:11easily beset us believers. It is something that is
- 5:15constantly there looking for an opportunity to latch on and just
- 5:19keep you from the the fullness of the glory of God.
- 5:23I believe and so I think we do well.
- 5:26I know I do well to realize that that I am fallible and unable.
- 5:33Sometimes I too need the grace of God.
- 5:36I too need his mercy. I too, need every instrument of
- 5:39power that he gave us. The shield of faith, you know,
- 5:43all the all the Shields of the swords of the darts, everything
- 5:46that we got. So, Aaron, go ahead.
- 5:50Yeah, I, I try to think about it in the context we talked a
- 5:58little about this last week, but in the context of why he's
- 6:01saying all this, we've we kind of got distracted with the faith
- 6:06chapter of the Bible, but he's been encouraging these people to
- 6:10continue to be believing in Christ.
- 6:13And I think he's he's used all these people.
- 6:18We said this last week that you had a first half of the list
- 6:24starting there and verse 33 of Chapter 11, the first half, that
- 6:30list, they were conquering and doing great things.
- 6:32The second-half and it actually changed quite abruptly there in
- 6:37verse 35, it changed. It went from somebody having
- 6:41their dead child raised life again to others being tortured.
- 6:47And and I think that that's what I really see in this verse is
- 6:50that he has used all these people as an example and said
- 6:53and because it because he's going to go on to say that like
- 6:56you all have, you've not been killed for your faith yet,
- 6:59right? You've not strove on the blood
- 7:01yet so he's going to he's used all these people's to say that
- 7:05they believed something and they done great things or they
- 7:09suffered a horrible death because of it or they suffered
- 7:13some other thing in life because of it.
- 7:15And he's saying I know we have two things that are around US1
- 7:21is a cloud of witnesses that done great things through faith.
- 7:24The other thing that beset and I don't know y'all can correct me
- 7:27if I'm wrong, but best I looked that up that actually I was
- 7:31thinking of it like it means kick me off the trail, but it
- 7:34actually means like surrounded as well, doesn't it?
- 7:36Like when I looked that up, it kind of meant like around you on
- 7:39all sides, like coming around you.
- 7:41So you've got a crap, a cloud of witnesses that that had all
- 7:47kinds of different experiences and they done all these things
- 7:51by faith. And then all around you, there
- 7:54is this opportunity to to get off track, to stop believing, to
- 8:01go backwards to to to go away from this.
- 8:05And he says he ends that verse with let us run with patience
- 8:11the race that is set before us. And and I know you said focus on
- 8:14one, but but verse 2 says looking unto Jesus, the author
- 8:19and the finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set
- 8:21before him like that. That same word set before
- 8:25happens in verse 1 and in verse 2 He says, who for the joy that
- 8:29was set before him, endured the cross, despise the shame, and
- 8:33sat down throughout hand of the throne of God.
- 8:35So Christ had a course, you could say laid out in front of
- 8:40him, a course of life that was going to end in his ultimate
- 8:45laying his life down. And he says, whatever your
- 8:49course is, whatever is set before you, let's run that with
- 8:54a with patience or a continuing and enduring belief, regardless
- 9:00if it comes to good or to some horrible end.
- 9:03Let's go forward and continue to believe that whatever the
- 9:07outcome may be. And not like I said that that
- 9:10that's what I thought about in that first one, but.
- 9:12Yeah, that's good, Dad. Yeah, I think very much along
- 9:16the same lines as Aaron there, that the context actually tells
- 9:20us what the sin is that he's referring to.
- 9:23It's not like an open drawer for you to decide which sin it is
- 9:27that besets you. The sin that he's dealing with
- 9:29seems to be the sin of turning back on faith, right?
- 9:34No longer continuing because he actually, he says don't be beset
- 9:40with the sin that be so easily besets us.
- 9:44Rather let us run with patients. So he's kind of contrasting
- 9:47those two. So running with patients is the
- 9:50opposite of the sin that so easily besets us.
- 9:53But one couple things I'd like to point out is that the whole
- 9:55idea of witnesses is also translated as martyrs.
- 9:58I mentioned that last week, and I thought that was kind of
- 10:00significant because the end of the last chapter, talking about
- 10:03all these different people who've gone before who died not
- 10:06having received the promises. Some were stone and sauna,
- 10:09slender and slain with the sword and wandered and so on and so
- 10:12forth. The world was not worthy of
- 10:14them. But seeing that we have that
- 10:16great cloud of witnesses, I even think of a few good faithful
- 10:21Saints that have died in my own life who I believe now to be
- 10:24witnesses also of the life that I'm living.
- 10:27And they're kind of cheering you on, so to speak.
- 10:29It's, it's not wrong for us to can think about the Saints have
- 10:33gone before. They now know what we're longing
- 10:36for to some degree, 1° or another.
- 10:39And it's like they're cheering us on saying don't give up,
- 10:42continue to run. And then he says, lay aside
- 10:45every weight. I, I really like sports.
- 10:47I like baseball and and weightlifting and volleyball,
- 10:50those kinds of things. Most competitors, when they're
- 10:53training for a meet or something, they'll use some kind
- 10:56of weight. They'll either run with a vest
- 10:58on or they'll swing a weighted bat just to kind of get warmed
- 11:01up. That way they take the weight
- 11:03off and it makes them feel that much lighter.
- 11:05And so weights are distractions. They might not be actual sins
- 11:09that we're living in, like looking at pornography or
- 11:12whatever else. It's just a thing that's kind of
- 11:14getting in your way from continuing on something that's
- 11:17kind of holding you back from continuing further in the face
- 11:21from growing. And so he says, lay aside all
- 11:24the weights. Like, you don't need to do that
- 11:26anymore. We're actually in battle.
- 11:28Put the weights aside all the distractions.
- 11:31I don't maybe it's not a perfect illustration because those
- 11:32things wouldn't really train you for for this, but the idea is
- 11:36that you're as soon as you lay aside the way you feel that much
- 11:40more at ease to do the thing that you were supposed to do,
- 11:42right? So the question could be asked,
- 11:45what distracts you from your faith?
- 11:47What weights are you carrying around that are keeping you from
- 11:51this great understanding, a deeper depth of knowledge of who
- 11:56God is and what Christ has done? It can very often be, for most
- 12:00of us, it is at times. It's that crazy spider net of
- 12:03web, the Internet. It catches us, it weighs us
- 12:07down, it slows us down, it keeps our minds distracted.
- 12:10It could be Netflix or Instagram or Facebook or any number of
- 12:14things. You know, it can be just your
- 12:16phone. And I've been trapped in this so
- 12:18many times. It's just a weight.
- 12:20It's something that's distracting me from pursuing
- 12:22what is good and right. But it could be a good thing,
- 12:25like hunting, fishing, boating, you know, I need not, you know,
- 12:28normal good activity to do, but it can so consume you that
- 12:33you're not continuing in the faith.
- 12:35You're distracted from what actually matters.
- 12:37And so, again, just to reiterate, Hebrews 1035 through
- 12:4239, there's one part there where it says now the just shall live
- 12:45by faith. But if any man draw back, my
- 12:48soul shall have no pleasure in him.
- 12:50And I think that's the sin that is so easily besetting to us.
- 12:54And the distractions, the weights of this world can kind
- 12:58of keep us bogged down to where we are more tempted to draw
- 13:02back, no longer continue to pursue, not willing to be mocked
- 13:07or to be scourged or to suffer torture or to see great
- 13:11extraordinary things happen because of your faith, because
- 13:14we're too easily distracted by the weights of this world.
- 13:17And then the word patience is waiting for the promise.
- 13:21It's faith stretched out. It's a continued faith.
- 13:24And so we look up the word patience sometimes and you think
- 13:27it's all having a deep understanding and being kind and
- 13:30tender. No, it's, it's believing God and
- 13:32then stretching it out over a long period of time where you're
- 13:35going through long-suffering. So you need to lay aside the
- 13:38weight and continue on in the faith.
- 13:42Hey, man, that's really good. While you were talking there, I
- 13:45looked up that word besetting or beset and it the the Greek
- 13:51definition says to skillfully surround.
- 13:56So there you go. That's that's pretty good.
- 13:58And you know, I had to think too what that that sin is at
- 14:03descending. You know, the the opposite of it
- 14:06is like he's telling us the answer is to look up to Jesus,
- 14:09the author of the finisher. So to contrast that anything
- 14:12that is not that is going to be a wait.
- 14:14It's going to be something that is drawing us back in a way.
- 14:18So I agree with what you were saying then, Melvin, go ahead.
- 14:23Yeah. So I would want to say one thing
- 14:27about the witnesses. I've heard some people already
- 14:32say that, you know, these Saints of older up there in heaven
- 14:36looking down, you know, and watching over us.
- 14:40And I don't find any scripture to back that up.
- 14:43I guess for myself, when I see this, I see that this is the way
- 14:47I kind of see what it's saying. You think of a witness, it's
- 14:52someone like, let's just say a witness for a murder or an
- 14:57accident or whatever it is someone that was there and
- 15:01seeing the actual happening. And so when I think of these
- 15:04witnesses, I and that, and that's what it is.
- 15:08It's actually Saints that have lived by faith, right?
- 15:14Because we went through the whole list and they've
- 15:17experienced living by faith, right?
- 15:21And so they just have set an example for us, so to speak.
- 15:25These whole cloud of witnesses, a cloud to me means just saying,
- 15:31you know, there's several different people that have lived
- 15:36by faith. They haven't lived perfectly far
- 15:39from it. You know, they're all humans,
- 15:42but they have believed God that that he that he is good, right
- 15:49and, and will be despite maybe the circumstances that they're
- 15:53in. And so that's what I see as a as
- 15:56a witnesses, but so the weight and I agree with everything you
- 16:03guys were saying that that you were dead on.
- 16:06One of the weights that I think could be in my own life
- 16:10sometimes is myself. Actually, maybe I it's my
- 16:15selfishness, because when I'm being selfish, I look away from
- 16:20Christ, right? I'm looking to myself.
- 16:23Or or maybe it's maybe it's something that like a mindset
- 16:31that I have or, you know, one of the things that I struggle with
- 16:35is, is being negative. And and so that is a weight that
- 16:41distracts me from, you know, like you were describing Dan and
- 16:46I agree, you're right. The weight, he says, is opposite
- 16:53of looking onto Jesus. And so anything that distracts
- 16:57us or pulls us away from Christ is a weight.
- 17:02And he says just just lay it aside.
- 17:04Just just put it aside. It doesn't say that it's a sin
- 17:08necessary. It just says, you know, you just
- 17:10take the weight and you set it aside so you can run.
- 17:13Because The thing is, is when you run a race, you you don't
- 17:17want any sort of additional weight.
- 17:19You know, most of your runners, they try and, and get as light
- 17:22as they possibly can. You know, because you don't want
- 17:25any extra weight bogging you down when you're on a 5K or 10K
- 17:30or whatever. The other thing that stood out
- 17:33to me is he, he gives us, he gives us the antidote or what we
- 17:38should do. He says let us run with
- 17:40patients. And, and when I think of running
- 17:43with patients, like when you run a race, you don't run all out
- 17:49for the whole 5K or 10K. You just, you can, unless you're
- 17:53Superman or the Energizer Bunny, But so you pace yourself, right?
- 17:59And so you might slow down when you're getting too winded or
- 18:04whatever. And to me, that's kind of like
- 18:06when you are experiencing maybe a hard time in your life or some
- 18:11sort of trial that you slow down, right?
- 18:16And, and then when things are good, you're, you're running
- 18:20full, full potential. So anyway, I just because the
- 18:25reality is, is this walk with Christ after you get saved is
- 18:30indeed a race. It's, it's like a marathon.
- 18:34And so we need to set every weight aside and every sin,
- 18:37whatever that is, if you're living with sin in your life,
- 18:40the Bible says that we have to turn to Jesus.
- 18:45And so, yeah, even after you get saved.
- 18:50Yeah. That's right, good stuff.
- 18:54I like that. This verse is extremely helpful.
- 18:59I would say I love these these verses here in Hebrews 12.
- 19:04OK, so the second-half, looking unto Jesus, the author, the
- 19:07finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him
- 19:10endured the cross, despised the shame, and it sat down at the
- 19:14right hand of the throne of God. That looks to be like somebody
- 19:18that is confident and at peace with the way that he made and
- 19:23he's not looking to. He's not up there wringing his
- 19:26hands, is he? Any additional thoughts on verse
- 19:302 there? Eric, I've always been intrigued
- 19:34by that comment. The author and finisher.
- 19:38I, I think you could take author in a couple different ways.
- 19:44I think that I think that he is the designer.
- 19:50In other words, I think he you like you even say the author of
- 19:53book like he wrote the wrote the plan like the Bible says that
- 19:58before the foundation of the world that the father and the
- 20:00son determined what they were going to do to save mankind.
- 20:06And so I think it's that sense, but I also think it's.
- 20:12It's like he had a course because I've that really stood
- 20:17out to me that verse 1, he says we need to run the race that is
- 20:20set before us. And then he says about Jesus
- 20:23that that something was set before him, which was the cross
- 20:30and the shame of it. So it's like he, he had this
- 20:34plan of what it was going to take to, to redeem mankind, and
- 20:40he started on that course and then he finished it right.
- 20:44In other words, he actually, he, he, and like I said, you could
- 20:47take that as deep or as shallow as you want, but he he wrote the
- 20:50he authored it like he's the he's the chief.
- 20:56I think that's the way it referred to it, like the chief
- 20:58for the Prince of of it. But but I also think it's deeper
- 21:03than that. I think he made the plan and he
- 21:05also in the sense is, is the he started out, he actually started
- 21:12out what Adam could should have and could have done, right.
- 21:16I mean, but he finished it, unlike Adam.
- 21:19So I don't know, like I said that that just really stood out
- 21:22to me because I'm playing on that fact that he says we have a
- 21:27race like we all have. It's going to look totally
- 21:30different for each person, but we all have life.
- 21:34Ahead of us it is. Set before us and Christ had a
- 21:38specific life or you know, literally as a man life set
- 21:43before him and he finished it in perfect faith, right.
- 21:48I mean he never I mean I was just talking to somebody
- 21:51yesterday I and I said that that's really that was what his
- 21:54temptation was was to step outside the plan right.
- 21:58I mean, that's one of the ways that Satan tempted him is to go
- 22:02against. The course.
- 22:05That is set beforehand, right? And that that was the
- 22:08temptation. So he actually authored it and
- 22:12finished it. And it's because of that he sat
- 22:17down throughout Hand of God, and because that all the rest of
- 22:20these earlier chapters are true, that He by himself purged our
- 22:24sins. Yeah, that's good.
- 22:27I, I too like that phrase. The author, the finisher, he
- 22:29wrote it, and then he actually was one of the characters that
- 22:33actually finished the plan. Yeah.
- 22:36Yeah, even some of the earlier references to Jesus, knowing
- 22:40that he can he's, he can be touched with the feeling of our
- 22:43infirmities. He too went through the same
- 22:46kind of faith that we have to patiently endure.
- 22:51He had some joy set before him, and because of that, he was able
- 22:55to endure the difficulties of life.
- 22:57He even endured the cross. And now you and I and the
- 23:00Hebrews alike, we are enduring, they were enduring great
- 23:03persecution and and encouragement to leave the
- 23:06Christian faith, to stop believing in Jesus.
- 23:09But because they have a joy set before them with witnesses
- 23:13clouding a cloud of witnesses there ahead of us, there should
- 23:17be that same kind of endurance in us that we can endure the
- 23:20cross, endure this, despise the shame.
- 23:22Sure, that's fine, but you can continue through all the
- 23:25difficulty. And so like Aaron already said,
- 23:28he is the origin of our faith. He's the author and the
- 23:32finisher. He, he, we're not trying to
- 23:34finish up our faith. He started it, He completed it.
- 23:37The story's been written, the work has been done.
- 23:40He sat down at the right hand of God.
- 23:42And so we enter into that faith. We have this cloud of witnesses,
- 23:47but we don't look to the witnesses, we look unto Jesus.
- 23:50So one thing that really is stands out to me here is that,
- 23:54you know, God has never needed anything.
- 23:57The Lord Jesus Christ wasn't here on earth and needing us to
- 24:01worship Him. He has all the worship, all the
- 24:04glory that He would ever need just from being who He is, that
- 24:08that, you know, glory radiates from him.
- 24:10He doesn't need us. So he didn't do this because he
- 24:13needed it. There wasn't this great urge in
- 24:17him to complete the cross and to do the cross because he had a
- 24:22need at the end. It was rather for joy.
- 24:24It was the joy that was set before him.
- 24:27There was something that was going to give him immense
- 24:29gratification, joy and celebration if he endured
- 24:34through the hardship. And so he looked to the joy that
- 24:38was set before him not to like, oh, I've got to do this, I have
- 24:41to do it. I have to obey God.
- 24:42I have to do the right thing. I've got to try to be a good
- 24:45person. I've got to cross the TS dot.
- 24:47The no, no. He had this great joy and hope
- 24:50set before him, and because of that he was able to endure all
- 24:54difficulties, and he was anointed with the oil of
- 24:56gladness above his fellows, even though he was called a man of
- 24:59sorrows. That should give us the same
- 25:02motivation. Don't put a list of do's and
- 25:04don'ts in front of you to try to endure to the end.
- 25:07Rather set the joy of knowing that you will be redeemed with
- 25:11Christ. You will be seated together with
- 25:13Him. There is a great joy set before
- 25:16us, and it should cause us to endure through the difficulties
- 25:19of life and to continue in the faith and to run with patience
- 25:23the race that is set before us. That's that's where we get our
- 25:27motivation. Motivation from knowing that
- 25:29Jesus endured and he sat down at the right hand of God, and now
- 25:33seeing that vision, having that before us is what gives us the
- 25:36joy to endure the difficulties. Amen, Melvin.
- 25:42Yeah, so when I think of the Arthur of our faith in Hebrews
- 25:48210, it said this. For it became him for whom are
- 25:53all things and by whom are all things in bringing many sons
- 25:58into glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect
- 26:01through sufferings. So Jesus is definitely the
- 26:06Arthur and he is telling us to that's what we need to focus on.
- 26:10We need to focus on Christ because he is the Arthur and the
- 26:13finisher and then the finisher. Hebrews 10/14 there's several
- 26:18verses, but this one I really like Hebrews 10/14 says for by
- 26:22one offering he have perfected forever than that are
- 26:27sanctified. So we can look to those kind of
- 26:31verses and I and I think it'd be good if we could look out, you
- 26:35know, a lot of those verses, but that helps us to to keep our
- 26:40focus on Christ and and know that we are sanctified, that he
- 26:44sanctified us forever. And that is he's the finisher
- 26:48like. And so one of the things that
- 26:50you were saying, Dan, about, you know, what did God need or
- 26:55whatever? One of the things that I thought
- 26:58of when you were saying that is one of the things that Christ
- 27:01will receive is, is a bride. What the Bible says that we are
- 27:06the bride of Christ. And so someday we are going to
- 27:10be, you know, seated around the wedding feast with Christ and
- 27:13he's going to receive his bride. And so when I think of that, you
- 27:19know, you think of of what you were saying joy, right?
- 27:23It just don't be in eternity. There's going to be this joy
- 27:29and, and being with Christ, being with the bride, being with
- 27:32the bridegroom and the bride coming together and it's going
- 27:36to be so glorious. And to be a part of that, all we
- 27:39have to do is believe by faith in the grace of Jesus Christ in
- 27:46the finished work of the cross. So that's so good.
- 27:49I I really love that because if, if, if we could remember to look
- 27:55to that and to focus on that as we are going.
- 27:58Here. Through on this race, you know,
- 28:00because you can't look on what you're experiencing or what
- 28:06you're going. Through or you're.
- 28:08Going to stop or you're going to crash you're going you're going
- 28:11you're not going to finish the race so I need to look unto
- 28:14Jesus the author finisher over faith and that and hey, he's
- 28:19sitting down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- 28:21That's what it says, says that several places in the Bible.
- 28:23And so he his work is finished and he's waiting to to receive
- 28:28his bride. Yeah, that's good.
- 28:32I had to think earlier in Hebrews 2 it says in verse 10
- 28:39For it became him for whom are all things, and by whom are all
- 28:44things that bring him in his sons of the glory, to make the
- 28:46captain of their salvation part. But it became Him.
- 28:49You know, I'd like what you were you guys were saying about the
- 28:53joy and the joy that was set before him and it was actually
- 29:00becoming to him, which if you think of that word becoming,
- 29:04it's to make beautiful, made him beautiful, to endure that cross
- 29:09and that shade and bringing many sons to glory.
- 29:13Just yeah. Beautiful picture.
- 29:19OK three. Or consider him that endured
- 29:21such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be
- 29:26weary and fate in your mind. Now here is the weight that does
- 29:33so easily beset us. This is the hard part of this
- 29:38faith journey. I liked how you said that, Dan
- 29:42Gretching just goes on and on and on, but he says, lest you be
- 29:47weird and say that's going to be our enemy where it is and
- 29:51faintness that is going to be the enemy of faith right there.
- 29:55Plain and simple. Anyway, Aaron.
- 29:58Yeah, I think he's trying to bring out the point that
- 30:02regardless of what they are going through, regardless what
- 30:07kind of persecution, what kind of discouragement, whatever the
- 30:12life was throwing at him, it doesn't compare to what Christ
- 30:17did. In fact, this is not.
- 30:20I mean, obviously it's not a coincidence.
- 30:21He's going to go right on to say that you forgot that God has
- 30:26even said sometimes he's going to chasten you, right?
- 30:30He's going to give you uncomfortable things to make you
- 30:33grow. He's going to go on to say that
- 30:34in just a second. So.
- 30:36So here's my point. He's saying when you get
- 30:40discouraged and you think, why me?
- 30:42Why am I going through this? Or is this worth going through
- 30:45this? Is it worth all that is being
- 30:48asked of me to give up? Is it worth it?
- 30:51He says, think about Christ, you know, like, and I'm going to tie
- 30:55this with what he said here. You might go through something
- 30:59in life that actually God is chastening you for something
- 31:04else. And I mean, and, and that may be
- 31:07the case. He's saying Christ could up with
- 31:12all the shame, all the reproaches and all that, and he
- 31:16actually didn't deserve any of it, right?
- 31:18In other words, it was all it was taught, it was all totally
- 31:22undeserved. It was all a total contradiction
- 31:26to who he really was, right? It all totally contradicted who
- 31:30he actually was. And that's what he's saying.
- 31:32Consider him that endured such contradiction, contradictions of
- 31:36sinners against himself, lest ye be weary and faint in your
- 31:39minds. In other words, it's like saying
- 31:42if you get discouraged and say why me or why am I going through
- 31:45this? Or it seems like life always
- 31:47hand bad things to me. Think about Christ and what he
- 31:51what he went through totally undeserving and he says that
- 31:55should make you want to keep on going right?
- 31:57He did that for you. Totally undeserving.
- 32:01Yeah, that's good. I was thinking very much along
- 32:04the same line, so I won't reiterate too much, but
- 32:07something that was pointed out to me years ago is sometimes
- 32:10skeptics of the faith or maybe Christians who have become
- 32:13bitter against God will say things like if he really loved
- 32:17me, he wouldn't allow this kind of thing to happen, or if he
- 32:19really loved the world, this wouldn't happen.
- 32:22We know that the Lord Jesus fully pleased God and God loved
- 32:25him to the NTH degree like he he was, he loved his Son, He was
- 32:29well pleased with Him, and yet he endured such contradiction of
- 32:33sinners, yet he suffered. So the fact that you're
- 32:35suffering or someone else that you love might be suffering is
- 32:38not indicative of God not being there or God not being loving.
- 32:43He does let his people suffer, and sometimes for good reasons,
- 32:47sometimes for reasons you might not know.
- 32:49But like Aaron already pointed out, you think your plight and
- 32:53is strange and unfair at times. But there's nothing as unfair as
- 32:57the Lord Jesus suffering. It doesn't make any sense.
- 32:59There's no reason for he didn't someone else where many of our
- 33:05sufferings are of our own doing or the result of a life that we
- 33:09lived a certain way or that our parents lived a certain way.
- 33:12So not only did they physically try and eventually did, always
- 33:16trying to trip him up in his words, he was constantly having
- 33:19difficulties, everyday people coming at him.
- 33:21One very difficult thing to deal with is having some someone
- 33:25contradicting you, someone going against you.
- 33:27It weighs on your mind and you sometimes you lose sleep because
- 33:31you know that there's somebody out there who's contradicting
- 33:33you. Well, Jesus had that constantly,
- 33:35continuously, and he never deserved it once.
- 33:38And so don't give up in your mind.
- 33:40Don't be weary. And well, doing all these
- 33:42commands should be coming back to our minds throughout the book
- 33:45of Hebrews. Run with patience.
- 33:48Yeah, that's. Good, Melvin.
- 33:51Yeah, in verse 2 he said look unto Jesus.
- 33:55So, so when we look unto Jesus, we're actually, you know,
- 33:58looking at Christ. It's something we do with our
- 34:01eyes and then he says here in verse three, he says for
- 34:08consider him and when we consider him, we do that with
- 34:12our minds. We think of what Christ
- 34:16suffered, the contradiction like you were saying then the
- 34:20contradiction that he took from sinners.
- 34:23It says against himself. He's saying we need to consider
- 34:28Christ in that so that we don't get weary and faint in what
- 34:34we're going through. Right, because the all reality
- 34:38is is when, when, when we're facing something hard in our
- 34:43life, it's like the IT like if we don't watch ourselves, it
- 34:48consumes us, so to speak, like it's the only thing that you can
- 34:52think about and see, so to speak, like it's almost like the
- 34:56rest of the world is not functioning around you.
- 35:00So to be but he's he's saying, look, not look.
- 35:04He's saying consider, see. He says there that you be not
- 35:07faint in your mind. So he's uses that word mind.
- 35:12And then the, the antidote for that is consider, think about
- 35:19what Christ suffered and he didn't like you said, Dan, he
- 35:24didn't have to do it right. I mean, he he did it because he
- 35:29loved. He loved us and he wanted to
- 35:31spend eternity with us. Amen.
- 35:36Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever
- 35:38things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
- 35:40things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever
- 35:43things are of good report, on and on and on.
- 35:46Think of these things. Amen.
- 35:50They will actually lift you above despair.
- 35:53That's right. Honestly, actually can.
- 35:55I've experienced it myself. Yeah, that's good stuff right
- 35:59there. Hey, verse 4, ye have not yet
- 36:02resisted unto blood striving against Sid.
- 36:05Any additional comments? I think that goes kind of with
- 36:07what we've been saying. But Aaron, any anything
- 36:09additional to death? Yeah, that's why I said what I
- 36:12said is I think he's pointing out in verse 4, they've not yet
- 36:16died for their faith, but the keyword in that is yet they
- 36:20might. Do that all right.
- 36:22They may be asked to die for the faith.
- 36:24They've not yet done that. But even if they're asked to,
- 36:28it's not unjust, right? I mean, just like Dan said
- 36:31there, God asked his son to die and allowed him to suffer all
- 36:37that in, I mean, obviously for a purpose, but without cause,
- 36:42right? Without a without a single
- 36:46accusation that they made being true or in other words, he he
- 36:50was falsely accused and yet suffered all that false
- 36:55accusation. And like Dan said, every time
- 36:58they tried to pin him down for something he said he actually
- 37:01spoke nothing but truth, right. So all those things, you know,
- 37:06and like I said that. So I really just said that to
- 37:09say, regardless of what a person goes through, he's not being
- 37:14treated unjustly or or handled differently than what God's own
- 37:19son was handled. Yeah, because we deserve grief
- 37:23from our own mistakes and from the sin that we committed or the
- 37:27sin that we're surrounded in. We deserve that.
- 37:30Jesus didn't. It has just not just as you get,
- 37:34Dad. A really good example, slightly
- 37:37off topic, but it fits because I once years ago when I was first
- 37:41understanding that we're not trying to die to our sins every
- 37:45day that we are indeed dead indeed descends.
- 37:48I had somebody bring me this verse and say, look, he's
- 37:51encouraging us to strive unto blood against our sin.
- 37:55I'm like no, no, no, just read the context like we did it here
- 37:59today. It's very obvious there was
- 38:01sinners working contrary. They were contradicting Jesus,
- 38:05and he strove against it unto blood.
- 38:08He he actually went so far to resist sinners that it led to
- 38:13his own physical bloodshed. You know, the Jews of his day
- 38:16were not yet at the point where their families and kinfolk of
- 38:20the Jews of this day during the Hebrews letter were not yet
- 38:23being killed for their faith, by the sounds of it.
- 38:26And they were only suffering contradiction.
- 38:28But Jesus was not only verbally opposed, not only physically
- 38:32opposed, they didn't just try to throw him off a Cliff.
- 38:34They actually did end up crucifying him and and beating
- 38:38him to a bloody pulp. So don't think of that bit of
- 38:41difficulty that you're having as so strange.
- 38:44You know, the cloud of witnesses before suffered.
- 38:46Jesus himself suffered, and he went through it with joy.
- 38:50And so we have not yet resisted unto the point of bloodshed.
- 38:53So stop complaining and take it patiently.
- 38:55It seems like he's telling us. Yeah, no, I think you covered it
- 39:00pretty well. I just, you know, like you said,
- 39:04Jesus suffered so much that he strived against sin.
- 39:08It's saying it's not saying that we strive against sin.
- 39:10It's just pointing out that Christ strive against sin and
- 39:15that's that's why he was sweating those droplets of blood
- 39:19there in the garden of Gethsemane before he went to the
- 39:22cross. Some of the love it was because
- 39:24of the he knew, you know what he had to drink that cup, that of
- 39:30our sin. And so, yeah, it's very good.
- 39:34Yep. OK Verse 5 And ye have forgotten
- 39:40the exhortation with which speaketh unto you as unto
- 39:44children, my son, despise not thou the chaste of the Lord, nor
- 39:49faint, when thou art rebuked of him.
- 39:51For whom the Lord loveth, he chasteeth, and scourges every
- 39:55son whom he receiveth. Yeah, I mean just.
- 40:01Finishes out what what he's been saying here.
- 40:03Go ahead, Aaron. I totally believe that this
- 40:10would apply to all people. Like I think when he says
- 40:14everybody, when he says that we all have endured chastening and
- 40:21if you haven't, you're a bastard, not a son.
- 40:23Like I think that this is applicable to all of all of his
- 40:28sons, like that day all the way up to present.
- 40:32But I also think, and I want I, well, I'll say it like this.
- 40:35I wondered if this isn't also pretty specific to these people.
- 40:40This is the Hebrews. So they're getting ready.
- 40:44I don't know, timeline. I'm not good with that.
- 40:46I've not done a whole lot of research, but the, the Jewish
- 40:50people as a whole are getting ready to go through the 70AD
- 40:54ordeal and all that. Like, I think that this could be
- 40:59very specific to them in the sense that God is rebuking his
- 41:04children, right? You know, like he's really is
- 41:07rebuking his, his own children like these chosen people.
- 41:10But like I said, I'm not, I'm not erasing.
- 41:12I think this is applicable to all of us.
- 41:15But I do think specifically they could have thought back on all
- 41:19those times that God had rebuked his people and over ago over
- 41:26again, he had rebuked that nation.
- 41:29But like I said, I'm not I'm not taken away from what I actually
- 41:33think it means. I do think it is a like I said
- 41:36earlier, it is a recognition or a reminder that sometimes you go
- 41:42through things the Bible says that time and chance happens to
- 41:46them all. Like there's things that happen
- 41:47to people that are truly time and chance.
- 41:50You think about Job story, God allowed the devil to come in and
- 41:55do all those horrible things to him.
- 41:57There are different explanations for why bad things happen to
- 42:02God's people, but he says you all have forgotten that God
- 42:06himself said sometimes you're going to go through hardship
- 42:09because I'm rebuking you right? And he says, but he goes on to
- 42:13say in these next few verses that if God is rebuking you, it
- 42:18is for your prophet. It's not because he's just I'm
- 42:21mad at you. He is hoping to have some good
- 42:24outcome, just like the parent has a good or should have a good
- 42:31outcome when they rebuke their child or when they are
- 42:33chastening their child. They are hoping to turn that
- 42:36child's character into a better person than what they would have
- 42:39been had they not rebuked that child.
- 42:41So, but, but like I said, I'd be more than glad to hear what you
- 42:45all think of if it is, if it does ring truer to them because
- 42:50of the nation, the people that he's addressing or not, but I
- 42:54don't know. Yeah.
- 42:56That's good, Dad. Yeah, to me this is this is
- 43:00encouraging that he Romans 828 one of the most famous verses
- 43:05right. God works all things together
- 43:07for the good of them that love God and are called according to
- 43:09his purpose. The the fact that whatever
- 43:12suffering or difficulty you go with go through, whether it's
- 43:15actually God rebuking us or whether it's just circumstances
- 43:19happening to us. We know that God's going to work
- 43:22it out for our good in some way. So that Hebrew Christians here,
- 43:25they were tempted to become impatient, waiting for the
- 43:29redemption that they were told was nigh, waiting for Christ's
- 43:33return, they were told was just around the corner and they're
- 43:36tempted to give up. And he says, can't you see that
- 43:39I'm kind of rebuking here, you here, I'm trying to make you
- 43:43realize that you have to continue on.
- 43:45You have to push through. I'm chasing you.
- 43:48I'm rebuking you through these trials, through these tests,
- 43:51through these circumstances. Because I might put my child
- 43:54through a series of tests to see if they will actually heed my
- 43:58word and if they will continue even when I'm not there.
- 44:02You know, put something out like you see these little videos
- 44:05where they'll take a 2 year old and they'll put like some candy
- 44:08in front of him. They'll set the video camera up
- 44:10and they'll say hey now don't touch this.
- 44:12I'll be right back. I'll be back in like 2 minutes.
- 44:14I got something really good for you.
- 44:15And you can see the kid is like reaching for it pulls back,
- 44:19reaching for it pulls back. There's just real urge like
- 44:23this. I really, really want that
- 44:25thing. But the, the parent is kind of
- 44:27testing the child to see if they'll obey whether they're
- 44:30watching or not. And I think God does that kind
- 44:33of stuff to us all the time. OK, now your feelings are gone.
- 44:36You don't have that joyful feeling that you once had.
- 44:38Are you going to continue in the faith?
- 44:40OK, now you've failed in some way.
- 44:43And I saw your failure, failure coming.
- 44:45I knew you were going to fail. Are you going to despair?
- 44:47Are you going to give up? Are you, how's your faith now,
- 44:50Right. And so all these different
- 44:51things that come upon us, they are God's chastening of us.
- 44:54They're God's dealing with us as with sons.
- 44:57He's trying to grow us and make us more mature.
- 45:01In chapter 6, I believe it was, he said that we ought to have
- 45:05been teachers by now, that we should be able to leave aside
- 45:08these these doctrinal basic principles and move on to
- 45:11deeper, better things. But he said, I can't quite give
- 45:14you the meat yet because you're not actually growing.
- 45:17But now I'm trying to tell you like, hey, all these things have
- 45:19been coming upon you because I'm testing you.
- 45:22I'm trying to show you the right way.
- 45:24At times I'm even rebuking you to you have to continue in the
- 45:28faith, just like all your Saints of old, all the cloud of
- 45:31witnesses that have gone before us, they all strove this way.
- 45:35Jesus himself strove this way. And now don't think that because
- 45:39you're going through hard times, it's because I've forsaken you.
- 45:42It's because I love you and you're my child.
- 45:44And I always chasten my children.
- 45:46I always rebuke my children. I want them all to grow up and
- 45:50be mature, right? That's good, preacher.
- 45:55Yeah, I love that. Yeah, I think you're right,
- 45:59Aaron. I mean, he is writing obviously
- 46:02to the Hebrew believers here. So some of this is obviously for
- 46:06for them, but it is also for us. Good, he says.
- 46:10You know who, what son, if you, if he God doesn't chastise you,
- 46:15then you're a bastard and not a son.
- 46:17And so, but anyway, I, you know, when I think of, of God chasing
- 46:27us, a lot of people when things are happening in their life,
- 46:32whatever it is a, some sort of trial or whatever and right of
- 46:36ways they're thinking, you know, what is God doing?
- 46:39And sometimes he is, but it's not always a lot of times when
- 46:46we like for my in my own life, when I feel like God is chasing
- 46:51me. And I don't know what you guys
- 46:53would say, what it seems like to you and God has chased me.
- 46:57But what seems like to me is like when I do something, let's
- 47:02just say I get upset at my wife or, or one of my children or
- 47:07whatever, and, and I just flip, you know, and then right
- 47:12afterward, it's just like, you're just like, oh, you know,
- 47:15and it's like God is speaking to me and it's saying, look, that
- 47:20you, you shouldn't have done that, right?
- 47:22He, he doesn't necessarily, you know, like physically, actually
- 47:29lash us or scourge us, so to speak.
- 47:32It's just like in your spirit, you, you, you just feel.
- 47:35And you're like, oh, yeah, sorry.
- 47:37You know, you're right, I shouldn't have done it.
- 47:39So we go back and, and to their child or spouse and, and say,
- 47:44you know, look, I messed up, I'm sorry.
- 47:47And and, and we thank God for forgiving us, you know, and then
- 47:52and, and through those experiences, we grow.
- 47:55I mean, that's why look what it says there.
- 47:57It says for whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth.
- 48:01So the the key is, is that when he's chasing us, it's because he
- 48:06loves us and he wants us to grow.
- 48:08That's why we chasing our children, you know, because we
- 48:12want them to grow and we love them.
- 48:15And most times they're, when we have to chase them, they are
- 48:19doing something pretty stupid or selfish, right?
- 48:22And that's oftentimes what happens when I feel like God is
- 48:26chasing me. I'm being, you know, selfish and
- 48:29just being stupid. And so anyway, that's what I see
- 48:34here. It's just, and not everything
- 48:38that God does is he's, or how should I say I said that wrong.
- 48:42Not everything that is happening to us is God chasing us.
- 48:46I think for myself, when you're born again and you have the
- 48:51Spirit in you, you can tell when God is chasing you.
- 48:56Or that's kind of my experience, I guess.
- 48:59So yeah. I and that brings a good I was,
- 49:03I was going to bring this up anyway.
- 49:06Like I've, I've heard a great deal of Bible students, maybe I
- 49:12would call them talk about, you know, whether is is this God
- 49:16chased when this happened? Is this God chased you or when
- 49:19this happens to that God? Or is this just this, you know,
- 49:21a whole lot of effort goes into trying to discern what it is
- 49:25that God is chasing you with or if it is him chased again, if it
- 49:30is, what for why? But I don't think that actually
- 49:34is important. What, what is important that the
- 49:38context here and what he is looking to have us do is realize
- 49:44that a temporary distress is just an opportunity to exercise
- 49:50faith, right? So do we need to decipher that
- 49:55this is a question for you guys that I, that I really is it
- 49:57important that we decipher whether it is God chasting us or
- 50:01it's like Job where it was just an act of, of the power of God
- 50:07there that that really wasn't, it wasn't it wasn't chasting Job
- 50:12or anything really. It was just battle going on and
- 50:16God had a point to prove. You know, what, what, what do
- 50:19you think? Is it important that we discern
- 50:20this kind of stuff? I was going to bring.
- 50:24Go ahead. Sorry, Melvin, go ahead.
- 50:26I was just going to say, if we're in my mind, if we're
- 50:30trying to figure out if God is chasing us or what he's chasing
- 50:35us for, we're already losing the point.
- 50:37Like, you know, because he because he said we're to look to
- 50:42Jesus. And the simple fact is, is that,
- 50:47you know, God is wanting us to grow in our faith.
- 50:51And so we shouldn't be focusing on what The thing is or what the
- 50:55whatever we're experiencing or why.
- 50:58Yeah. I'm afraid it brings a lot of
- 51:00kind of duplicity and just kind of like if you try to analyze
- 51:03this, Dan, go ahead. I was going to say, you could
- 51:06kind of take almost anything that comes at you as a test from
- 51:10God, no matter the difficulty. Like in fact this sentence here
- 51:14I noticed it begins with the word and you have not suffered.
- 51:19You have not resisted rather unto blood striving against sin.
- 51:24Jesus dealt with contradiction of sinners.
- 51:27So sinners were coming at Jesus and in Paul, the author here
- 51:30says you've not yet resisted against sinners striving against
- 51:35sin unto blood, and you have forgotten the exhortation.
- 51:38So it's almost like he's saying the fact that people are coming
- 51:42against you, the fact that you're facing difficulties, the
- 51:44fact that maybe somebody doesn't like you, the fact that you
- 51:47maybe have lost your job, all of that could be seen as God
- 51:51rebuking me. God's trying to teach me
- 51:53something here. God's trying to show me
- 51:55something. And you don't have to over
- 51:57spiritualize this. Some people get way too way too
- 52:00spiritual about it. You know, that was a hot day
- 52:02today and God was trying to teach me and maybe he was.
- 52:04You don't have to point out everything as this great
- 52:07spiritual thing, but you can receive every difficulty, every
- 52:11trial, every circumstance in your life, whether it's
- 52:14contradiction of sinners, whether it's a loss of a job,
- 52:17whether it's a, you know, a stubbed toe.
- 52:19You can say, Lord, what do I need to learn from this?
- 52:22How am I supposed to be instructed by this?
- 52:25I remember once I never really experienced rage.
- 52:29I'm I'm pretty, pretty calm person for the most part.
- 52:32I don't get that angry at people.
- 52:35And and one day my dog, after several times of trying to pray
- 52:38him to not eat my chickens, he was eating a chicken again.
- 52:43And and I was so consumed with rage.
- 52:45Like I had murderous rage. I mean, it sounds ridiculous to
- 52:48say it, but I was like, oh, this is so irritating.
- 52:51I, I just wanted to beat the dog and I was like, I'm not going to
- 52:55over spiritualize this, but this just showed me something.
- 52:57I've got some serious things to learn about controlling my
- 53:00emotions and about not losing my cool on something that I can't
- 53:04control or that the dog can't even control.
- 53:06It's just innate nature. That's tough.
- 53:08Off topic, but everything that happens to us is happening so
- 53:12that we can receive it as from the Lord, even if it's not God
- 53:16doing it. Like Melvin said, it's not like
- 53:17God is controlling all these pieces, constantly trying to do
- 53:20stuff to us. But something happens and we can
- 53:22say, OK, Lord, what can I learn from this?
- 53:24How are you perhaps rebuking me through this, even if you didn't
- 53:27do it directly right? No, I appreciate that.
- 53:32Yeah. And I would say too, kind of, I
- 53:36don't know, I no, I totally agree.
- 53:41And I guess that's I got, I guess I would say that I would
- 53:45build on that and say there's nothing wrong with wondering if
- 53:49I have done something that has caused God to be chasing me.
- 53:54Because let's, because, you know, think about it's, it's
- 53:56chasing and skirts, right? It's not just like chasing would
- 54:02be a lighter thing. That'd be like a teaching moment
- 54:04or whatever. But scourging is always like
- 54:08without exception, that is a spanking, right?
- 54:10I mean, that's, you know, like that, that's a beating.
- 54:13So I guess I would just say there's nothing wrong with
- 54:17saying have I done something that would make God be trying to
- 54:22get my attention here like I in my opinion, and the reason I say
- 54:26that partly is because James 1 he says and verse 2 my brethren,
- 54:32count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations.
- 54:35Knowing this, it's trying your faith work with patience, but
- 54:39let patience have our perfect work that you may be perfect and
- 54:42entire lacking or wanting nothing right.
- 54:45So it's like you all said that the goal is is that you would
- 54:48grow in your in your faith. But then he says, if any of you
- 54:54like wisdom, let him ask God give us to all men liberally and
- 54:57upbraise not and it shall be given in.
- 54:59So I've always thought that that's he's opening the door for
- 55:04you to say is what? What is What is this right?
- 55:09Is this a in my opinion, I think he's off.
- 55:12He is opening the door for you to say, what is this?
- 55:15Is this not just what is this lesson to learn?
- 55:18But is there something that I am doing that is causing God to
- 55:23literally spank me? Right?
- 55:25You know, So yeah, by all means, I totally agree with you all.
- 55:29There are people that just have went overboard with it and they
- 55:33and it's basically crippled them in life so that they feel that
- 55:37all the things are God rebuking them and, and I so I do think it
- 55:42is it can be crippling to some people.
- 55:45But on the other hand, I would also, I wouldn't want people to
- 55:50never to never realize that the verse is saying God sometimes is
- 55:55rebuking you to get your attention.
- 55:58You know what I mean? In other words, if you say
- 55:59forget about it and don't don't ever look at it as a chastening
- 56:04or don't ever worry about whether it's a chastening, then
- 56:06you are kind of doing away with the verse that says, I mean, he
- 56:09goes on. Think about it from verse 5 to
- 56:14verse 11 is all about chastening.
- 56:20Like it's a whole big passage about it.
- 56:22And he basically wounds up saying you know that it is going
- 56:27to yield a, a fruit hopefully, but it's not fun.
- 56:31It's not fun at the time. Yeah, that's for sure.
- 56:34I, I tell my guys at at work that every time that you meet a
- 56:40a difficult situation with a difficult customer, that is
- 56:44where that is an opportunity to set ourselves apart from how
- 56:48anyone else would handle it. Set ourselves apart as a company
- 56:52in having good customer service standards.
- 56:54If we all we have is easy to get along with customers, it's
- 56:58impossible anyone can get along with those.
- 57:00There's there's no glory in getting along with someone
- 57:03that's nice to you. Really, it's not.
- 57:06But it there's no glory, there's no glory.
- 57:09But what is incredible is if you have that abrasive customer and
- 57:14yet you do the right thing that is.
- 57:17And I think that is kind of the context here.
- 57:19If you look at it holistically, what he is saying is that these
- 57:24chastings, whether they're chastings or they're just a
- 57:27stupid decision that you made, whichever one, sometimes they
- 57:29look a lot alike. The point is, are you taking
- 57:34this opportunity to display faith or character or, you know,
- 57:38whatever it is that, that that's, that's what it looks
- 57:42like if you back up a little bit away.
- 57:44So I, I think sometimes we go astray a little bit when we try
- 57:48to analyze whether this was a, you know, a chase thing or did I
- 57:53just whatever. But and sometimes when I when
- 57:58things, sometimes things happen just because of my own
- 58:01stupidity, I mean, that just is a reality.
- 58:04But I like what you said, Dan, to me.
- 58:07So we got to remember we're in the context of fate still in
- 58:11this, right? And so I like what you were
- 58:13saying, Dan, that the point that you made about, you know, that
- 58:19we should be looking at when things happen in our life, like
- 58:24maybe what can I get out of this?
- 58:27Or how can I grow out of this? Because that's what God is
- 58:31looking for is he wants a, you know, he's, he's telling them
- 58:36here, don't turn away from Christ, like, don't go back to
- 58:40the law. Keep the faith, keep your keep
- 58:43your eyes on Jesus. And, and so that's, that's the,
- 58:47that's good, because that is faith, right?
- 58:50I mean that's part of of faith is is what are my can I learn
- 58:57about you, Father, you know, out of this right and and so and
- 59:02looking at it not necessarily as him being evil towards you or
- 59:08I'll willed towards you, but that he loves you and and that
- 59:13you can trust him right that because he is.
- 59:17What was that verse? It said that I can't, I can't
- 59:21think of it. But anyway, he he has his best
- 59:25interest for you. Yep, absolutely.
- 59:30Anything else that you really want to say about shades or
- 59:34chasing? All right, I'll We'll hold our
- 59:39tongue. I was wondering if you're just
- 59:43if you're watching the clock anyway, all the test I was I was
- 59:47looking to see might have been chased it if you would have
- 59:51spoke up. All right, yeah, all righty
- 59:53sounds good. Well, hey, I appreciate everyone
- 59:55being on tonight. I was blessed.
- 59:58That was a good study. As we conclude today's study,
- 1:00:02remember Hebrews 11/1. Faith is the substance of things
- 1:00:05hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- 1:00:08And we pray that your faith would reveal biblical truths
- 1:00:10even more clearly than your physical eyes and perceive the
- 1:00:13things before you. Join us next Monday as we
- 1:00:16continue to look at God's Word through the substance of faith.
- 1:00:19God bless you guys. Thanks for your time and we'll
- 1:00:21see you next Monday.
