Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, it's Emily coming to you live from the
- 0:21Speaker 1: AG studio. You are listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Hope everyone is.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Having a good Friday, Christmas Eve, tonight, Christmas tomorrow, if
- 0:32Speaker 1: you are celebrating and sending you all the good vibes,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I feel like it's probably also relevant right now to
- 0:38Speaker 1: just send some healthy vibes into the world. I recognize
- 0:44Speaker 1: that New York City, as it has been in the past,
- 0:47Speaker 1: is certainly the epicenter of God. Whatever is going on
- 0:51Speaker 1: in our world right now with COVID, I feel like
- 0:54Speaker 1: everybody has it, but I am lucky in that I'm
- 0:59Speaker 1: literally knocking on wo on my desk right now, but
- 1:01Speaker 1: I do not. I've been rapid tested, rapid PCR tested,
- 1:05Speaker 1: caveat there twice this week and pretty much isolating myself
- 1:11Speaker 1: in preparation to see some family tonight.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So I hope that however you're.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Celebrating, if you are celebrating, you are safe and healthy
- 1:17Speaker 1: and happy. And that's it for five Minute Friday. This week,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I want to talk to you about spending New Years
- 1:24Speaker 1: by myself. I'm gonna be honest. I used to feel
- 1:28Speaker 1: a lot of anxiety about this particularly somehow, I have
- 1:33Speaker 1: no issue spending a lot of my time alone. I
- 1:35Speaker 1: work for myself, I live on my own. I'm very independent.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I like to go eat alone, out to eat alone,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I like to travel alone, like so many things, Like
- 1:45Speaker 1: solo time is great with me. But for some reason,
- 1:47Speaker 1: the idea of spending New Years alone always made me
- 1:50Speaker 1: feel like I was really doing something wrong. And over
- 1:54Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks, as the world has slowly
- 1:57Speaker 1: started to shift and the COVID crazy here, I for
- 2:02Speaker 1: the first time, like in my adult life, feel a
- 2:05Speaker 1: beautiful sense of peace about the idea of just being
- 2:08Speaker 1: here in my own space to start off a new year.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And I'm not saying, as you know, we've heard people
- 2:17Speaker 1: speak about the pandemic and whatnot in this way like
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm not saying I'm happy that this has happened, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: I was really dealing with like this huge mental block
- 2:28Speaker 1: about the idea that like, oh, if you're home alone
- 2:32Speaker 1: on New Year's then like, how lame are you that
- 2:35Speaker 1: you have nothing to do? How lame are you that
- 2:37Speaker 1: you're probably gonna fall asleep before it even hits midnight?
- 2:40Speaker 1: What does this mean for the start of your new year?
- 2:42Speaker 1: Like I was putting so much like in retrospect when
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think about this unnecessary pressure on myself to have
- 2:49Speaker 1: something to do, because as this woman in my early thirties,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'm single, like I should be doing X, Y or Z,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and honestly, now having shit in my perspective and being
- 3:02Speaker 1: forced almost to this place, I am so grateful that
- 3:06Speaker 1: I was able to get out of my own way.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm not saying that for certain, one hundred
- 3:11Speaker 1: percent I'm going to be sitting on my couch here
- 3:12Speaker 1: by myself on New Year's Eve. But what I am
- 3:15Speaker 1: saying is I feel so much better now knowing that
- 3:19Speaker 1: whatever happens that night doesn't make me any less of
- 3:22Speaker 1: a person. And I know that probably sounds like silly
- 3:26Speaker 1: or whatever, but at the end of the day, our
- 3:30Speaker 1: perception is our reality, and I have done so much
- 3:34Speaker 1: great work on getting to a place where I feel
- 3:37Speaker 1: so good as me and I know that I, Emily
- 3:41Speaker 1: a body, have so much to give. But sometimes, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: we go through moments where we may falter in that.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think this is a really great example of just
- 3:52Speaker 1: because you may be great at navigating a hurdle at
- 3:56Speaker 1: one point doesn't mean that old anxieties or feelings about
- 3:59Speaker 1: something to arise at another But the best thing that
- 4:02Speaker 1: we can do with ourselves in these hurdle moments is
- 4:05Speaker 1: have some grace and take a deep breath and know
- 4:10Speaker 1: that it may not feel like it in that instant,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but you will get through it and you're going to
- 4:17Speaker 1: learn from it too. My prompt for you this week,
- 4:21Speaker 1: what is something that has previously made you uncomfortable that
- 4:25Speaker 1: you want to perhaps overcome in the new year. Again,
- 4:30Speaker 1: what is something that previously made you uncomfortable or gave
- 4:33Speaker 1: you anxiety and you want to work on or overcome
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the new year. And now a listener question.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Hi, Emily, this is Jessica from Chicago. I love your
- 4:44Speaker 2: podcast and I love listening to it during work when
- 4:48Speaker 2: I'm writing as well. I'm in marketing, so whenever i'm
- 4:51Speaker 2: doing something, i love to listen for some inspiration. So
- 4:55Speaker 2: I'm curious if you have any bucket list races in mind.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I like to run the States, so I'm always curious
- 5:04Speaker 2: what everybody's bucket list races. If you could go anywhere
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the world, and let's take lottery picks out of
- 5:13Speaker 2: the question, just you could get into wherever you wanted,
- 5:16Speaker 2: where would that be? I look forward to hearing your
- 5:18Speaker 2: answer and your why have a great day.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Hey, Jessica, good question. So for those of you that
- 5:24Speaker 1: don't know, there are the six races marathons that are
- 5:28Speaker 1: called the World Marathon Majors, and if you run all six,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you're part of like an exclusive amount of runners who
- 5:36Speaker 1: have done all six and you get the school medal whatever.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So these World Marathon Majors include New York, Chicago, Boston, Berlin, Tokyo,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and London. I have run New York, Boston, and Chicago,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but I still have yet to run Berlin, London, and Tokyo,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and so those are definitely on the top of my list.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I am hoping to run London in twenty twenty two
- 6:05Speaker 1: and then Tokyo maybe in twenty twenty three, so that
- 6:09Speaker 1: will make Berlin the last to check off, and then
- 6:11Speaker 1: I mean, who knows how much longer I'll actually be
- 6:13Speaker 1: running full marathons for, but those are certainly at the
- 6:17Speaker 1: top of my list. I wouldn't mind running one in Paris,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and I've heard the Paris Marathon is absolutely stunning. But
- 6:25Speaker 1: other than that, that's kind of what's on my radar
- 6:28Speaker 1: that is it for this week?
- 6:31Speaker 2: My friends.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I feel like this episode was a little extra rambly
- 6:34Speaker 1: over here, but I hope that you have something nice
- 6:37Speaker 1: on deck for your weekend. If you're celebrating, if you're
- 6:40Speaker 1: not enjoy it, take some you time, find something a
- 6:43Speaker 1: little festive to get you in the spirit, and I'll
- 6:47Speaker 1: see you soon at Emily Body at Hurdle Podcast Another
- 6:52Speaker 1: hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time in my
