Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Bienvenue au salon hosted by Sarah Marielle.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: So my personal zeitgeist lately has been a little too real.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: It hasn't been focused on artistic endeavors like I usually like it, but instead it's been mostly focused on a lot of politics and just real-world news, you know, been listening to kind of both sides or multiple sides of different political spectrums, and just thinking a lot about politics, um, international politics, as well as culture, and just like world events right now, especially with a lot of natural disasters, etc.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, that's what my Hazika has been consisting of, and you know, to force myself to, I realize that I haven't really been.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's because things have been a little too real right now, like personally in the world.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know if things have actually heated up or if it's just like you know, same same stuff, different day.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But I have felt kind of a lull.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I think really, you know, with Leo season and Leo energy, which is all about you know being out there and excitement and just being vivacious, and I think that people are doing that.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I see that in the collective, in the zeitgeist on social media, you know, people are enjoying their summers.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Well, where it's summer, anyways.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Um, this side of the hemisphere, anyways.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It's currently summer, and we're in Leo season, and I think people have been living up to Leo season.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: A lot of people are on vacation abroad, they're traveling, they're working on certain things, and so with that, I feel like people have been lost in their own worlds, which is a good thing.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I think people have been, you know, channeling that lion-like vitality and getting into their shenanigans and channeling their creativity, whatever that looks like.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And so I think a lot of people have been self- self-absorbed lately, which I think which is a good thing because that's what the energy, that's what the season is about, that's what it's for.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And I think just a natural consequence of that is that you know, there's kind of a lull that comes, especially it's the end of, well, it's I know I shouldn't speak too soon, but it's the beginning of the end of summer.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: We're pretty close to being there, you know, moving into fall, not yet, but you know, we all feel it coming.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Winter is coming and all.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And so I think there's always this lull kind of at the end of the summer where there's not really much going on in the zeitgeist in the artistic world.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Um I mean, there's some movies that been that's been coming out, but really that's been more like early kind of to mid-summer.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so there's just been this like delicious lull in a positive way, you know.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people are spending time with family, they're taking a lot of time off.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I know in Europe, um, the month of August is the month when everybody just kind of leaves and then they, you know, are in vacation mode.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So I think we all feel this natural, like delicious lull, especially after such a buzzy early summer, like with all this with everything going on in the sports world, and also a lot of things, honestly.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: But yeah, in order to I just wanted to like give that disclaimer because I don't think I'm necessarily mad at it, I'm not mad at the summer low, and this relates to me focusing on and this relates to my zeitgeist personally.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I think being focused more on like geopolitics and just real world events because I don't know.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: I think honestly, it's a lot of things, but I don't want to go that down that astrology rabbit hole, or should I?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Would you guys like that?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I do love astrology over here, but I'm also not the kind of person I don't like to shove things down people's throats.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is my podcast, so I guess I can talk about whatever I want, but I don't know.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Anyways, I don't know.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe I'll just talk about it.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: For me personally, my Leo is in the 10th house, so whenever I'm in Leo season, even though I feel I do feel the vitality and like the you know, okay, time for consistent action day to day, like channeling that yang energy, and you know that's good for me.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: As for me, what that feels like is it's channeled in like my responsibilities, things I I feel this like push to kind of like okay, we have all this energy, we better use it wisely.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Like, inevitably, I think once we get into August, I'm already thinking, like, okay, there's a finite amount of time because next thing you know, fall is upon us, because that's often been my experience, and I do live in New England, and so I oh my goodness, you guys.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I you guys know, well, if you guys don't know, I am a nature fairy, and I'm like outside kind of ish right now, recording, and I look in my rearview mirror, and there's a deer.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness, it's right next to me.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Oh there's two.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, there's a baby.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: That's a buck.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: He has his horns and everything.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Wow, this is crazy.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: I've seen them in person before, but never this up close.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: They have no idea I'm in here.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Cause they might sniff somebody is even nearby and they're they're off, they're gone.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: They don't fuck around, they don't so bro, it's like a whole deer crossing going on right now.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: What on earth?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I am so honored.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I feel like this episode is so random already because, like, what do you mean you're outside and you're like, where are you?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So I usually come to this kind of it is New England and it's summer, and so our the nature right now is just so beautiful, lush, all kinds of greens that you can imagine.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So there's this little secluded place that I like to come to when I just want to be alone and just kind of I find nature to be very grounding.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people do, I think most people do.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, this is just like a little comfort spot for me where I can kind of just stay in my car, have my windows open, or even open my doors if I want to.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Obviously, I have to be vigilant, mostly for like animals, because one time I did see a small little, I don't know if it was a mountain lion or it looked like a cat, but it was kind of small, but big enough to where you could see, like, oh, this is like maybe a bobcat or something.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: So I know I have to be careful.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's crazy.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Whenever I see deer, they're so majestic, dude.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, maybe I just need to be exposed to them more in person, and they won't be as like etheral to me, but I don't see anything wrong with the way that I see them.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: I I'm just saying that because I'm just thinking, I know some people hunt them, which you know, we listen and we don't judge.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be that judgmental girl, because I know a lot of people love to hunt, and I don't want to come down on your throat.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Personally, I have a hard time kind of reconciling myself to hunting for fun or for sport, just because like I was just thinking with these deer that I just saw, like, how could anybody want to kill them?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Especially like up close, like that, seeing them up close.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I do want to learn.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I know this sounds like totally like it's like contradictory, it's contradicting.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: I'm contradicting myself, but I want to learn.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I think hunting is a good skill to have, you know, for the skill of it, because who knows?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: God knows, like where you could be, you could be stranded, you know.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: I think it's good to be connected to nature and just know how to provide for yourself in like the bare minimum, like, you know, like no having no food, so having to get your own food, having to find water, having to make shelter, having knowing, having to know how to like defend yourself, all those things.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Survival instincts, I think, is good to have.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: But some people I know a lot of people, my my dad, he loves watching this outdoor channel where they're like serial hunters, like it's all they're ever doing in those episodes is hunting.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, not all, I'm exaggerating, but like 85% of the time they're hunting, and I'm just like they're so happy and they sound like barbarians like on the hunt.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: And I'm just like, okay, I admire the skill to hunt and to know how you know, because they I think they I'm not sure if they show how to like skin it and prepare it, but they do cook it sometimes, and yeah, that's a great skill to have, but just the sport of it and the glee and the and the glee and just the it's too much for me personally, but I'm not condemning anyone, I just have a hard time with it, and I don't know.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I need someone to explain it to me or to help me come over to your side.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Maybe you know, some people don't care, and they're just like, yeah, whatever, it's just hunting.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I just do it for sport.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I just personally don't understand, and sometimes I be getting annoyed.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: I'm like, sometimes I'll wish on their lives.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I hope that in the next lifetime you guys reincarnate as a deer, just so you can feel the terror of these animals surviving out here and being hunted by humans.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Maybe then that's the only way we'll understand.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, they're even though they're not humans, they're sentient beings like us, and they do have like emotions and they do matter to a certain extent.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, I don't even remember what I was talking about before.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Those majestic ass creatures interrupted, gl like wonderfully interrupted.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what I was saying.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I think I was talking about politics or something.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, I was talking about my chart with my Leo being in the 10th house, and how I feel like um, yeah, like this push, like I just need to prepare for incoming fall season, and yeah, I think I was saying, like, I'm very aware of that.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: I think most people are very aware of it.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Like, as soon as it's August, it's like, oh my god, it's the last month of summer.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: But specifically for me too, I have this pattern of trauma I need to unlearn because I am just now, believe it or not, after being in this country for I think I think after being in this country for 16 years, I am just now, you guys, starting to like fall and winter, like just this past year, this past fall and winter.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Because literally for most, and I did live in other that happened mostly because I I moved away for a couple of years and lived in literally the opposite climate.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I lived in Arizona and Phoenix for a couple of years where it's like dry and hot, and so it really made me appreciate the seasons mostly, like just the the change of it, and also the amount of trees that's in New England because obviously it's the desert and Phoenix, and so there's not a lot of trees, it's it is beautiful on its own.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not comparing, or I I do miss it, and I loved it.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: I loved my experience there, but it's different being from somewhere and having kind of grown up somewhere and really like feeling nostalgic for that, and that was my first time I ever felt nostalgic for New England, so I think once I came back, it made me appreciate like just the change of the seasons and um obviously fall and all the trees, like uh, it's so lush in New England, and I love it.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I just started enjoying fall and winter, you guys.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: And but like those years when I was like before that, and before I moved away, when I was like growing up here, I would I suffered my first like decade and like change in this country personally were like really harrowing for me.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I'm so dramatic, but you know, like I don't want you guys to like I don't want to jump into my trauma with you guys, but there was a lot going on in my life in those times, and also adding like winter and I mean fall and winter on top of it, and just like all the themes that that brings up in life, you know, like death and um letting go and going in and less light, and obviously I'd moved.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: If you guys don't know, I am Haitian.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I grew up there for 10 years of my life, and so moving there from I mean moving from there to here, like completely different and a different climate, you know, coming from a tropical climate, and now for the first time as a kid too, because you know it's one thing to experience it as an adult and like have a sense of self-aware awareness, but I didn't have really any self-awareness when I was 10 years old, and so just like for the first time going through winter blues and never knowing like what was happening and you know what was going on, not really knowing much about myself physically, not knowing much about wellness, all of that.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: So I've had a a traumatic relationship with the yin seasons, I call them, with fall and winter, but not anymore.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: I'm glad.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: I'm very excited for it to finally be taking hold in me, and I'm finally starting to feel like a native, like like this is my home.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Like after literally, well, I guess on and off.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Like it's been like 10 years of living here.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: After 10 years, you guys, 10, 11 years or so-ish, or if or more, I'm just now starting to feel like a native, and a big part of that was there's other factors, it's like culture and and you know, race, all of that, demographic.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, but also a big part of it was definitely the climate.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: And I think, yeah, now that I'm finally starting to enjoy the hardest, because spring and summer, like I love it, especially in New England, it's beautiful, you know, it's mild, sometimes it's annoying, especially the spring when it's like you're just waiting for the sunshine and being like, hello, it's new, but it's New England, and I've actually figured out like a solution.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Like, obviously, like duh, I'm not this is not innovative at all.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm starting to see what people are on to when they travel in the spring or you know, in the winter, or whenever they go, because it's like I'm just thinking, like, okay, you know what?
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start perhaps making it a tradition or working towards like you know, finances willing, of course, God willing, of course.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: But um, I want to start making it a tradition to just like travel in the spring because I do like New England and I don't want to hate it, I don't want to criticize it for the way that it naturally is, and so I'm just gonna, you know, you know what, babe, it's okay.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: You are perfect the way you are.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna go somewhere where it's warm and sunny in the spring when like we're in that period where it's kind of dragging, it's like you have the spring showers, it's like gloomy for weeks on end, and you know, it is kind of warm, but it's still like it's dreary, and you're just like waiting for like the end of spring and beginning of summer when it's like hooray! But with that said, I hope you guys, if you guys are not from the east coast or New England, if you're not from New England or the East Coast, I hope you guys are picking up on just how short summer the Yang seasons are here, and so a part of that is as soon as it's August, I think all of us are like, oh, dun dun dun.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we love it, and that's what I'm I'm feeling right now.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I am excited thinking about fall in the winter, but also there's a sense that like dun dun dun, you know, like it's ending.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Obviously, I love summer, I am a summer baby.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm not born in the summer, but spiritually, I'm definitely like a early, I mean like late spring summer baby.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, just preparing for that.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: And so it feels like a sense of responsibility, a sense of like needing to situate myself and kind of get equilibrium and just you know, like, what are we doing?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Where is our energy going?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: What are we working on?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: What are we making sure that we're being productive with right now so that calm fall, we're not like scrambling and feeling like the time just caught us um off guard, and I feel like that's very 10th house theme, and so yeah, the sun is going through my 10th house right now, so it's been making me like it's been making it feel unforgiving for me to focus on kind of our frivolous artistic things, and obviously not like it hasn't been cold turkey because I don't think I think art is in the I think the arts are necessary, obviously, to a certain extent.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: It's like you know, obviously it's balance because yeah, that is like where I get a breather, but yeah, I've just been like feeling not really connected when I'm trying to focus on the artistic things that bring me pleasure.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: So I've really been on like a social media break randomly.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: I kind of realized like my brain was too into the the zeitgeist, too into the collective, and I needed to like stop and ground myself in touch ground, and I think that's what everyone is doing this season, especially like with what I was saying, like you know, a little bit more self-centeredness, which is a good thing, which is what like a part of what Leo energy is about, and so I think everyone has been embodying that, and part of that has been for me to just disconnect from the collective from that Aquarius kind of energy, you know.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Which I do have a lot in my chart, but kind of that Aquarius energy, and so my grounding has been looking like focus focusing on the world around me, what's going on in my immediate life, which to me includes like what's going on in the climate of the country because I do live in the country, you know, like my daily life is affected by politics because of more things than one.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, I don't want to like expose people who are close to me and like our situation, and just for the sake of for privacy's sake, I can't like I don't feel I don't really feel like it's time for me to um talk about everything that I'm experiencing and how politics and just the climate of the country how that is affecting it, but yeah, it's been making me kind of feeling like I need to get my shit together and like I need to be responsible and like I need to have my ten toes on the ground looking around me.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: And one thing that I've been noticing in that space has been well, one one of those things are uh natural disasters like just popping up in every single fucking corner of the world.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm glad this finally came out.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I think I saw something that I think it was a Wall Street Journal.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure why I was seeing it, but they just recently posted it.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I think I saw this post like yesterday or the day before, but they just now because I I saw this pattern.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people have been seeing like there's been an earthquake in so many locations in the world, like very, like in very um, like very close to one another in terms of timing.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: So there was those two big, like dreadful ones in Venezuela, the big one in Colombia.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: There was one I'm miss, I'm definitely missing locations, even like some of the locations they were mentioning in the video.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: I didn't even realize it had happened, but there was one in Mexico apparently.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: There was one, I think, did they say Spain?
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: One happened in Japan, and I was just like wondering what is going on, dude.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of people have been thinking that, but yeah, this post was basically saying that all of these locations are along like a fault line that stretches like thousands of miles, like places like really far away from each other, like South America versus you know, Japan versus that those locations, and like but they're all along the same like continuous chain.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: It's like this this like global kind of um figure.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Which is like um that's where the line along those fault lines are.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: And for some reason, I mean, even like I'm glad that we know what's going on.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Like, why like I'm glad we've picked up on the pattern of all these earthquakes happening and like big earthquakes, by the way, not like real earthquakes.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Like you guys know, if you've been paying attention, that that those earthquakes like in Venezuela and Colombia and in Japan, like those are huge earthquakes, like lives being put in danger and people literally dying from them.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm glad that we finally kind of have answers, but it still doesn't change that.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Um they were saying like this fault line has been activated and it there's like it's like flaring up this year, and even so, you know, like even though we know like why all these earthquakes are happening and such short timing, like between one another, I'm still just like thinking, like, well, why is this fault line being activated or being um is flaring up all of a sudden?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And I know like it's it's natural to a certain extent.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I don't even want to get into a whole discussion of climate change and global warming and all of that.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: I think that's a whole episode for another time.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And I think I would like to actually talk about it at some point, but not here.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't want to keep jumping into rabbit holes, but you know, I do believe in climate change and global warming.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: And so to see, like when you see things like this, obviously you don't know for sure because I I'm not I don't want to be one of those people that like you know it rains tomorrow, and I'm like, oh my god, climate change.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: I don't want that to be the kind of person where that's my answer for everything because I do know there are natural weather patterns that occur around the world and they're just like they're normal, but still, like you know, I I think I'm somewhere in the middle closer to like no, there's something going on, and like you know, like you we are starting to see the effects of these big ass, negative ass changes, and so with that, and then all the wildfires happening in Europe, dude, and can't North America, Canada, I think freaking South America, some parts have experienced it, like China, dude, or or maybe not China, somewhere like in um in Asia, wildfires happening, and then there's monsoons that you know sh are normal, like it is normal, but like the scale of them has been like so much bigger than people are used to, even normally, and then there's like a bunch of floodings going on in certain parts of the world too, like where it's like, yes, it's normal, it is a time for them, but what people are saying is that they're more intense at a scale that like they should not be this quickly intense so early, like it should be a natural progression because to a certain extent, nature is predictable in its unpredictability, but even in that it's like wildly different.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm not gonna speak further on on it than that, but that's just been like what I've been noticing and what's been on my personal zeitgeist, and just kind of making me like I don't know, it sobers you up a little bit, it makes you realize because I have experienced a natural disaster, that's why we left Haiti um to move to the United States was because of that 2010 earthquake, and so it's like when you experience those things, it's very sobering because all of a sudden you're really aware of what is important in life, like things become very clear-cut, like this is what matters.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Like the people, the lives of the people who are close to you, you know, your immediate safety, obviously, your life, your resources, like where are you gonna get food?
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Those kinds of things.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: It makes you realize what's really important in life, and I think just like tapping into that and just seeing the scale of all those natural disasters that's been going on, it reminds me that, like, you know, this could happen at any moment.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: Um, this could have very well been us, or even like it doesn't even have to be natural disasters.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Like, let's talk about the climate of war right now, you know, in conflicts around the world, people's lives being just that are disrupted by warfare and yeah, and violence, by warfare and violence, like anything could disrupt our equilibrium right now, and so I don't know.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: I think there's something very it's honestly very it's obviously very sobering in like a kind of dark way, but I think it's can also be very grounding because it it kind of it's like this is so random, this is such a random analogy, but I think of um when they say like when you're when you become a new mom, like your brain, something about gray matter, like a lot of gray matter in your brain, like your brain shrinks when you become a mom, which basically is it happens on purpose because your brain wants you to get rid of like the excess stuff that you're thinking about and just focus on your baby, on keeping your baby alive, and so life becomes very clear-cut and like you know, very sober for mothers.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: So I think I've I know that was so random, such a random analogy, but that's what popped into my head.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, keeping in touch with these real world things have been like shrinking my brain and just making me focus like on just things that seem to matter, the things that seem to be like actually consequential to like survival and quality of life.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, that's what's that's what's been on my zeitgeist palette lately, which has led to like I said, me not really being on social media, so kind of being disconnected from the zeitgeist, which I don't think is a bad thing because I don't think much has been going on.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you guys let me know, but I mean I know there's been a lot going on in people's personal lives, but that's what I've been saying.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: Like, I feel like everyone is just in their own world right now, and there's a lot going on in every individual's personal life, but it's not necessarily like connecting collectively, which is a which I think is a good thing, like that's what Leo is about, and because you know it is finite, and I think at like a certain point it's gonna turn in, especially oh if you're American, if you're American, or if you I mean if you live in the United States, is what I mean.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: You know, the freaking primary elections are coming up, and so we're all about to be real connected and in more ways than we probably want to be.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: So I think it's good that everyone is focusing on their own life right now and just tapping into that yummy Leo end of summer or the beginning of the end of summer kind of lull vacation mode, like just like um yeah, yang mode.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: So yeah, get all your vacation in, you guys, and really enjoy this right now, this quiet right now, and this kind of slow pace and this kind of sobering or or clear-cut um focused energy because it's about to get real like just scattered and buzzy, and like people won't shut the hell up for the next like for the rest of the year, because you know, also with fall and winter comes holiday season.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: So just sorry if I'm triggering you guys, but I I don't want to trigger you guys, you know.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: We're all in this together.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: If you're the kind of people who also dread fall and winter, you guys don't easier said than done, right?
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Don't just don't, just don't do it, just don't.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: But um, I think I'll make um further episodes about just you know, tapping learning to love the energies of fall and winter and just tapping into those energies and healing those parts of ourselves so that you know we flow through seasons gracefully.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: So we're all in this together because I'm in it too.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: I refuse to feel triggered by all the energy that's coming our way this fall and winter because I know there's also a lot of good, cozy, hibernating, you know, like rest after a long, vivacious or you know, real and intense summer.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, it's gonna be time for us to like go draw inward and you know do some healing and be connected in certain ways and etc.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: And so so so many things.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I was gonna talk about you know, like me also like paying attention to like politics, but I don't think I need to.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I think mostly what I wanted to say is just like what's been mostly consequential, like with my personals I guess right now, consisting of like more politics, is I've just really been I've really I love this strategy of mine of just like listening.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: If you live in the United States, you know that there's like two prominent um there's like the two-party system, and the two prominent parties are obviously like the Republicans and the Democrats, but obviously that's not all the parties, but they're the most popular, and usually like it's one or the other that's the president.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: I don't think there's ever been like a non-bipartisan like president.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure I'm sure you will, but yeah, I was just saying that to say, like, if you do know what the heck I'm talking about, then you know that you know they're always at each other's throats, and they're both very extreme, and they're both kind of like it's either one or the other, which I think a lot of people are tired of and sick of, and like just like just feeling nauseated from like this tug of war of being pulled to one side or the other.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Um, so um my way I think ever since like honestly, like the 2024 election, I've just like made it a point to really make sure that I'm pursuing and listening to both sides and finding my middle in all of that because I don't know.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: I don't want to dive too deep into the politics and my political thoughts and all of that, but I think because of obviously like also a lot of violence going on, I think it's so important.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, not I think it is, it's so important for people, like even if you're angry at each other to at least talk and come in the middle and have common ground and just like common ground as humans and just know, like, okay, we can be safe in discussing our ideas, and like you know, let's just like banter it out, but like let's have at least a basis of respect and civility and like non-violence, you know.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: So I've really been like seeking out and listening to both sides and just like both sides of like to the extreme of one spectrum to the other, and just finding where my middle is and and just honestly just listening and just seeing like all sides of the story rather than like hate this side because they're doing this, no, hate that side because they're doing that.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: No, we're better than you.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: We want us, we want to be completely in power, and it's just like it's like all of us, it's either all or nothing, and it's like, no, guys, let's just relax, let's come in the middle.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: Shit, I'm sure the pie is big enough for all of us.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: Damn, it's America, bro.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: It's like there's so much, anyways.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Anyways, I'm getting too deep into it, anyways.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's been my mostly my zeitgeist for the past honestly, like, I don't even know.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: I haven't been keeping track, but I've been realizing that, and I think as we're ever more approaching towards fall and going into September, I am feeling kind of I think a little like wanting to just come back up for air and reconnect with you know, like having balance.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: And so I forced myself to write down what I've been partaking in when it comes to the arts and the things that I feel like nourish me internally.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Um and you know, what has my even in the lull of Leo season, that yummy lull, what's been like going on um in my person in my arts palette when it comes to like really what I've been partaking in is really just like watching new movies, you know, my playlist for this season, you know, the fashion world, art world, the dancing world, all of it.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: Mostly I've only really been watching new movies and you know, my and my playlist for this season, and really fashion.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: I haven't really been partaking in visual arts or dance or anything.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but I guess I'll start with fashion.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Like I've really been I don't know in the spirit of I don't know what it was this year.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it was this year, but in the spirit of like I think honestly, as soon as like the sun started approaching my 10th house, I just started feeling like uh just a sobering of you know getting ready for the next season and getting my my ducks lined in a row.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: So, in with that said, in relation to fashion, I've been thinking about fall fashion and winter fashion, and and that might sound frivolous, but I guess this whole topic is frivolous, so who cares?
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: It's all frivolous, anyways, right?
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: But that is especially like something to pay attention to, again, because of the climate that I live in.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: You know, what I'm wearing in the fall and the winter is drastically different from what I'm wearing in the summer and in the spring because the seasons are so different from one another.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: So I've you know, so I've put a hold on or a stop to like looking certain fall colle- I mean certain summer, spring, summer collections that I was paying attention to.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: I was, you know, I was paying attention to the cruise line.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: I know that came out like way early in the summer, but I hadn't really caught up with um with digesting all the collections that I wanted to, and I don't know, I was also just like shopping.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: So once I started to feel that energy come in, I'm like, oh okay, the time for spring summer shopping is done.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: I'll probably do that like in the winter time as I'm preparing for spring and summer.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: But as for now, any clothes that I buy now for spring or summer, I'm not gonna be able to really wear.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: So I'm shifting my focus to fall and winter fashion.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: And what's what that's looked like for me is I've purposely didn't really look or study the collections from like the designer major like designer collections from fall and winter 2026 slash 2027, and so I've kind of just had that like on hold because I think at the time that I put it put it on my list, it was like the end of winter and like the beginning of spring, and I didn't really want to think about fall or winter wardrobe, which I think is for the best.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: Um, one thing I do wonder, I wonder what it is that people are up to when they release their collections at the times that they do.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Because usually they release spring and fall.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: I mean spring and summer collections, like at the beginning of spring and summer, which I find kind of bold and daring because I don't know.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: I'm just picturing a bunch of people scrambling to get all this stuff.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's what they want, maybe they don't want it to be available for too long so that it can, you know, like a sales tactic of alluding to like finite supply, so it makes people want to buy faster.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: So maybe that's what it is, and also they do the same for fall and winter, they usually release the collections like in the middle late September to October, which I feel like I don't know, I want to have my shopping already done by then because I don't want to be feeling scattered of like what am I gonna wear this season?
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I just like to know, you know, set aside my wardrobe and have like all the pieces that are available that I want to wear, um, and just have them ready for like before the fall solstice.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: I know that's very particular, but I don't know.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: I just like that that flow of seasonal change and like like on the actual date, which is September 21st, that's the day of the fall solstice, or is it equinox?
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: I think it's equinox, I don't know.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Equinox is spring and fall, and I think solstice, yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: And winter, so yeah, fall equinox.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: I want to have my stuff done before then.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: So, what that's looked like is I've been kind of feeling like the girl from Clueless, what's her name again?
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: When the way she like arranges her outfits.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: I've really been just looking at my Pinterest board because I do have I was gonna say, by the way, if you guys want to follow me on Pinterest, but maybe don't because it's private.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of protective of my Pinterest.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know if anybody feels that way, but it's like the most raw location for my most unedited, most raw, like creative self.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Like, I feel like that's where all the loose ideas are kind of floating in an ether, and then I'll like download the pictures from Pinterest, my boards, when I'm like trying to solidify the vision.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: So I don't know, you probably don't need to follow me on Pinterest.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: There's enough socials in the world where you guys can keep up with me better, like the Salon Gazette Instagram page, or I'm even relaxing to share this, but it is what it is.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: My personal page, Sarah Marielle.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: If you guys want to quote unquote keep up with me and the content of Salong is at there, follow me there.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe not Pinterest because I'm private anyways, you won't be able to see anything, and I'm not accepting any followers because I want to remake I want to keep some parts of my creativity to myself, right?
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: I think everybody feels that way to a certain extent about their pro creative process, but anyways, yeah, I'll just like take the pictures from the Pinterest boards that I have for fashion, which you know some are centered around fall, some are centered around the winter, and so I just went and did like an audit and looked through my folders of what I have, and I just saved the pictures that I found inspirational and jumped out at me and the ones that I wanted to embody this season.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: This this coming up season.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: So I downloaded those and I put them in a folder, and then now I'm starting.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of late actually, but it's fine.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: I wanted to start this because I am saving up right now for me to do like a haul.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: I really want to do like a haul, a really big, not like huge, irresponsibly big, but a lot of stuff that I've been kind of putting on the back burner because I haven't done a haul in a long, long like years.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: You guys, I'll do them in increments here and there, but there's been so many times where I just want to buy everything all at once and just have it and you know be stored up for like a couple years because I don't really I think that'll change as I get older and as my finances expand, god willing.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: But I don't really spend money shopping like that as much as I would like to, but which I think is fine, you know.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: I think at the end of the day it's it's good to stay grounded and remember that these are things that I want, not necessarily things that I need.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: So it's fine that I can't buy to my total heart's content right now because it's really not life or death or anything.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: But saying all of that, I have been saving and putting weddings aside so that I can do like my haul for this fall and winter, ideally before or maybe like the week of the fall equinox, just so I like to feel seasonally caught up.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: I like to start channeling the energies that are meant for that season, the beginning of that season.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: I don't want anything to sneak up on me, so I am kind of late because September is literally right around the corner, but it's fine because I did start looking at some of the collections.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of them, like I like looking at um more designer brands because I like the idea of them.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Obviously, there's whenever you're talking about luxury or just commodities in the in life in general, people you will never really fully know where is the point of like this is expensive because it's valuable, or the it's maybe not even like the value of like the fabric or the material, but maybe it's like the labor behind it, maybe it's the supplying, all of it.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: And as someone who you know has sympathies for uh sustainability on all scale, I do like the idea and of people brands charging the price of what it actually took to create those pieces, and so I know that obviously in the luxury market it's wildly overpriced because you're mostly paying for the brand, but that's up to you to like discern and look through everything and see like okay, this is because there's a lot of like luxury brands out there that I pay attention to that I noticed, like, like for example, today I was looking at the okay, I don't want to throw shade, but I'm just gonna say where what I was thinking.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: But I was looking at the Tom Ford um fall winter 2026-2027 collection, and I don't know, it's just I mean, it wasn't really my vibe, I didn't really like it that much.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: But it's okay, that's fine because I'm sure there's people out there who love it.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: My thing personally is I just get scared or kind of disappointed sometimes when things seem very simple, like something that I could just walk into.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe not necessarily obviously the same material and the same, like I don't know, I don't know what makes it as valuable as it is.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I don't I haven't really studied the house of Tom Ford like that.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: No what is their expertise or you know where the value is.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: Is it like quality?
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: Is it craftsmanship?
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Is it like is it just the brand?
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: You know, so I can't really speak to that.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: But I am wondering, like some of the pieces that I'm looking at, they look like I could just I don't know, they look very ordinary, very basic, and that kind of irks me sometimes when I go to because that's why I don't know.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: I like fashion obviously on a scale of like I like to use it.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: I think most people that's what they get out of it.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: It's like uh it's an outlet for them to express themselves.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: It's like something that makes you.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I know for me, like it makes me feel comfortable, it can make me feel like you know I'm in my skin, like it just I don't know, it just embodies how I'm feeling, and so it it's like a comforting piece.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: I forgot my train of thought.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Oh I'm talking so much, I'm yapping so much.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: But I'm like when I'm looking at like when I'm following when I'm talking about following like um collections, usually I'm looking at luxury brands, and maybe that's because I'm very new to kind of looking outward because I want to engage, I want to engage with people, and I want to see what people is because I do believe that fashion is a form of art, and I want to engage with that, I want to engage with people's creativity, and it brings me joy to see how people express themselves and especially through clothes, you know.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: And I already love clothes, so maybe it's because I am new to looking outside on the outside for just fashion inspiration and like at the highest level, and like real artistic, you know, skill at the highest level, and so I'm not gonna sit here and say like you can only find that in luxury brands because I know that's not true, I know that's not true, but it's just easier to access, usually, like they have more notoriety, and you just have like better access in terms of like content, being actually being able to see their collection without having to go in store and see it, you know.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Usually they have it on their website, etc.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: It's just easier to see, and bringing myself back to the point of everything seeming kind of basic, and I would expect that they would have a higher sense of like being out outside of the box, kind of with their designs.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: And I know that's a part of luxury brands, they don't want to make themselves go out too outside of the box because then it starts seeming like costume and people can't relate to it, and since it's already so pricey, there's not not really any motivator for people to partake in it because they can't see themselves in it aesthetically.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: I get that, you know, they have to tow like a balance, but sometimes when I'm looking at these luxury brands, it's like they are way too into like oh, this is like basic.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Like I could walk into I don't know, HM and go get this, or I mean it's closed now, it's gonna say forever 21.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Obviously, definitely probably not the same quality, but the same look.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: And to some people, that's more important, honestly.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: As much as we would love to spend on quality, some of us just like don't have the funds, and so you know, I think first and foremost, if you're really a fashion person, and you know, it's for the look of it, obviously.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Anybody like if we're talking about we're not talking this is not about necessity, you guys.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: This is this whole conversation with the arts, it's all frivolous because again, they're not necessarily necessities.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: So if we're gonna be frivolous, then be frivolous.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: Like, why am I gonna spend this much money?
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: And even if it's good quality, there's like a point I feel like luxury brands hit where it's like, even if it's good quality material, I'm still not gonna spend this overpriced amount on it just because of quality, because I know there's other quality brands that I can find that are actually quality and they look the same as yours.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: So, what am I paying for?
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: Anyways, that was my spiel about that.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to say that because I did.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: I said I'm starting to look at the collections, and I looked at the Tom Ford collection today, and again, I don't want to bash anyone.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: If you loved it, then that's great.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: This is just my corner of the internet, and this is just how I feel.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: And I feel like the 2026, 2027, fall, winter collection just looked kind of basic, and I'm like, uh, okay, thanks.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Not really inspired.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: I think I took so what I'll do is going back to the original discussion of how I organize everything, you know, with organizing my Pinterest pictures in a folder.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: What I'll do is when I'm looking at those outward-facing um brands and taking inspiration from them, what I'll do it is I'll look at their collection for the year that I'm interested in, and I'll just screenshot the looks that I feel like really inspire me, that I love, and somehow try to replicate that in my own wardrobe with the funds that I do have.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: So it's like a you know, taking everything in and then funneling that into what I can do for now.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: So I think from that collection of Tom Ford, I only took like two two screenshots of two looks, and that's what that's another thing.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: They'll have so many looks again, but in the in the in the name of sustainability, so many looks, so many pieces of fabric, right?
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: So much potential waste, and it's like, what are we doing with that?
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not really consequential.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, it isn't, it's not it, I don't see it.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: Like, there's already so much, most of oversaturation, so much clothes out there, and just the fashion industry just keeps churning and churning new looks, especially in this age of social media and the internet, and people just like you know, things having shorter life cycles because of the zeitgeist and aesthetics and all that complete continuing to change.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: And it's like, why are you guys putting out like 40 looks, 50 looks, and like five of them look very similar to one another?
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: There's just a tweak here, a tweak there.
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: Like, to me, that's just a waste of fabric, honestly.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know, and I know some of the luxury well, that's mostly hook couture.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: Who knows how much they actually have in supply, but I don't know.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: I just I don't see it.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: I don't see the buzz, I don't see all I'm seeing is that this is a brand name and whoop de-da.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: This is a luxury brand name, and buy it because of that.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Whoop de-da.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Anyways, yeah, so that's what's going on in my world of fashion.
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: Just kind of I have so many collections to get through.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: Like, hang on, let me go look at my list real quick and see how much, and and as you know, as I continue to live, of course, I'm finding new brands that have piqued my interest, and so I'll add it to that.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh, that's yet another brand that I need to look at their collection, and my brain kind of gets crowded with especially if they're each putting out like millions of pieces in one collection.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have 28, I think, brands so far that I need to, which doesn't sound like a lot, but again, when they all have multiple looks and pieces, yeah.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: I just basically what I'm saying is I have a lot of work to do.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: My life is so difficult.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: I have to look at fashion and engage with fashion like all the time.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: Ugh.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't have to do shit actually.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: I I choose to do this, so anyways, yeah, we'll update you guys, and maybe I will update you guys.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: We'll update you guys on everything on the haul, and you know, I want I want when I finally put all my pictures together to have like a clear vision, and then I actually deploy my funds and buy the things.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: Ugh, that's gonna be so satisfying, and I just can't wait to have the clothes in my hands and wear them on my body for the upcoming season.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: I'm very excited about that, so tune in.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: Um, till next time, we'll talk about that.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: But moving on, really, into music, there hasn't really been much going on.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: I've just been kind of doing the same thing, but I kind of changed my system a little bit.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: I think I told you guys in an earlier episode that like the way that I structure like my listening, my music palette for the month or for the season.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: It used to be monthly that I would kind of change my palette, but I've realized that I need more time to kind of I'm missing that piece of when you have like a lot of time to bond with music, like over and over for a certain amount of time, to where like I don't know, it takes up a certain space in your psyche that's very nostalgic, and that I'm missing.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: So I've decided that instead of monthly changing my palette, um, which means like a completely new playlist with new music, I'm doing it bi-monthly.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: So every two months or really by by sign, honestly.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: So I've this time around, I've been I've been organizing my playlists into season into seasonal categories.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: So like I had a Gemini and Cancer playlist, and now obviously Leo season, I have a Leo and Virgo playlist.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm in the middle of my Leo Virgo playlist right now, and I think when I come back, I obviously don't want this episode to get too long because if I go into like the specifics of that playlist, we will be here for hours, and especially too, because there's still some music that I need to like really let sink in, and there's still some music in this playlist that I haven't listened to yet because we're not you know, the season is not done.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: We still have the end of Leo season and all of Virgo season to go, so I will report back on that.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: But really, that's it, that's really what's been going on in my musical world as l as well as I've been getting kind of in touch with certain like I love movie soundtracks, especially like when the movie means a lot to me.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: I'll and like the music is really good, like the soundtrack is so good, like I love having that in my library and just have access to that.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: Like I remember the I think it's called I don't know what the the actual movie is called, but it's about the Little Mermaid, the one with Hallie.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: Um, I loved that movie so much, and the soundtrack Hallie is an amazing singer, like her voice is amazing, so I just loved the soundtrack so much.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: So I have that in my library, which sometimes like I'll get nostalgic and I'll just randomly put that on.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: But lately I've been really nostalgic for the Sinners soundtrack.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: I've been re-listening to that, and I just I can't wait, you guys.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I think I'm gonna watch it again around Halloween time just because like it's the perfect time to watch it.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: I already watched that movie twice already, I rewatched it, or maybe it was three times, I'm not sure, but I we're coming up for another viewing of that, so I've been getting excited with that by that.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um this season, so really not that much for my musical palette, as well as I mean, I guess maybe I can make like a separate episode um debriefing you guys on my Gemini slash cancer playlist because obviously I am done with that, so yeah.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: Again, like I said, I don't want this episode to be too long because when I start talking about music, anything artistic, really, like I'll just like rant and just yeah for hours.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: So don't want to do that, but I am excited, don't worry, you guys.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I will not fail to come back with an episode to talk about this playlist because I really really did like it, and I feel like it channeled early summer Gemini Cancer energy so perfectly, like it was just very wholesome and very cutesy, and I guess that brings me to like movies.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: Um not now, anyways, but in Gemini and Cancer season, I was watching or re-watching a lot of Ghibli studio movies that I literally haven't watched since I was a kid, like in so freaking long, and they're just so nostalgic, they're just so nostalgic to me.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Like, and I was channeling like um childhood curiosity during Gemini season because that's kind of what it's about, and I found myself reconnecting to some of the curiosities that I had when I was a kid, when I lived in Haiti, some of the movies that I was watching, some of the music that I was listening to, you know, what my aesthetic was at that age.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was a whole different season.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: That was like the beginning of summer, and I really was tapped into just like childlike energy.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we were just waking up from like you know, we were getting into summer, so it's like okay, now Yang season really, really, really is here.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: So it just felt really vivacious and getting excited to start socializing and everything, which is what Gemini is also about, you know, socializing and that childlike wonder of just social being like a social butterfly, etc.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: So I'll come back and make another episode about that.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: My music palette for Gemini and Cancer.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: But really, for this season, it's mostly been me doing my homework, listening to Leo and Virgo.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: I love I'm in love with some of the songs I've been listening to, as well as it feels nice to like you know what I do is when I don't like a song and I'm not resonating with it, I just delete it off of the playlist.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: So it's very satisfying, like as it's very satisfying as the time goes on when the playlist shrinks, and like especially when I'm like towards the end and I know every song that's on there, like I enjoy, so it's just like a fun time all around.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: At the it's just like lit, but at the beginning, like can be a little tedious listening to everything.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: But usually I'll put like a play, um, I'll put the playlist on, like play a specific part of it.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: Like, I have a couple of albums, I think I have four or five albums.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: I have wait, I have three albums and two EPs, which are like kind of shorter albums, um, on my playlist and a bunch of singles.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: So sometimes I'll play like one album in that playlist or another.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: So I got through like two of the albums, and I'm kind of getting through the third one, and the EPs, I already got through one of the EPs, and like yeah, deleted a bunch of songs, and so yeah, it's steadily, slowly but steadily, slowly and steadily, and surely it's it's shrinking and becoming more and more refined.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: So I'm happy with that.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: But that's really what's been going on in my music world, but yeah, I guess in terms of film and movies, like that's been kind of I've been kind of low-key about it, just kind of because I've been so like feet to the ground, you know, connecting, feet to the ground, connecting with the real world in of my life, my reality right now, and the things that need to get done and my responsibilities, and just because of that, I've and also because of adulting.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: I feel like the older I get, the less time I have for just or maybe it's just the season that I'm in as well, you know, because I am working.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: Like what I mean by that is I'm not financially free, so I do need to work, and so obviously that's you know, most people do that takes time away from the things that you want to do, like watch movies.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Like, actually, what I would love to do with what's ideal for me is to like set out a time, get a bunch of snacks, and like movie mode, and we're watching that movie from end to beginning, but I haven't been able to do that, so I've been watching a lot of movies that's been on my list.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: Like, I can't just watch the time go by and feel like I'm not crossing off some of these movies off my list, especially as the season goes on.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: So, I've been watching them like TV shows.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: Usually, most of the time, when I'm watching a show is when I'm eating, which I know sounds really sad because you know, why do you eat your phone when you're eating?
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: I know, I know it's not a good habit, and sometimes, many times actually, I'll just be like, you know what, I want to eat in silence today, just me and my thoughts and my food.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: So I'm not like one of those people I do enjoy usually watching something when I'm eating, but I can turn it off if I'm just not feeling it, anyways.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Don't come for me, but I'll usually most of the time when I'm watching something, it's when I'm eating, or like at the end of the day, when I'm going to bed, and I'm just doing like a couple hours before you know I start winding down, like that's when I'll watch something.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: So I've been watching them like shows, like like like episodes.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: So I'll watch maybe like 15 to 20 minutes of a movie, so I've been able to knock some of them out that way, and I've actually knocked quite a few, especially for my summer playlist for the movie.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Some of the movies I feel like would be perfect or were perfect for summer.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: So some of the ones that I had on my list that I got to cross off are The Materialist, which is the one with Dakota what's her last name, Johnson and Chris Evans, I think.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Chris Evans.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: That one I loved, and then okay, I'm just gonna read the whole list, and then we'll talk about how I feel about them.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: But yeah, The Materialist Baby Girl with Nicole Kidman.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: Um I think that's the name of the actress, and then The Moment, which is Charlie XES's uh kind of movie.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say tour movie, but it's not really about her tour, it's like I don't know, it's completely like um it's like fiction, kind of, so kind of, yeah.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: And then Dust Bunny, which is I forget the name of this actor, but I really don't even want to look it up right now.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Damn, I should, but I I really don't want to.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: It's called Dust Bunny, it's with this guy and a little girl, those are the main two characters, and it's crazy.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: I forget the name of the actor, and I don't know the name of the little girl's actress, but I that was on my list and I crossed that off.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: And Death of a Unicorn with Jenna Ortega and that other guy, forget his name, and The Substance with Demi Moore and the other actress.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I've been able to cross those off my summer playlist for this season.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: I still have um some movies I put on there, I just want to like re-watch them because I feel like they're perfect for summer and just the vibe, the aesthetic of summer, which are Pride and Prejudice.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_00: It's like the Kira Knightley movie, and uh I forget his name, but like the most famous.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't think it's the most famous, maybe that's like biased to say, but I feel like it's the most famous Pride and Prejudice adapt adaptation.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but that one and The Buccaneers, which is like a very niche, not the new one that's out right now.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: It's like one that I watched when I was younger, and I was like a teenager and new new-ish to the country, and I was like engaging with just Western or English literature, that kind of stuff, and I started engaging with um Jane Austen and uh what's her name?
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: Edith Wharton, who wrote The Buccaneers.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but there's this adaptation from I think 1980, or it's one of the like older adaptations, like not old, old, like 1960s, or I mean sorry if I'm calling some of y'all old, but I just mean in terms of like media, like older, like such as like the 70s, but I think it's either from the 80s or the 90s.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to remember the name of an actress, but they're not really that mainstream.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_00: They are like familiar, but they're not mainstream where I think people recognize them by name.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think there's any of them, any of the main actresses, but yeah, that's on my list.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: And I still have the Odyssey, the new movie with Zendaya and Lupianago.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: And uh, I want to watch Supergirl, the new one that came out this year.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: Um, with I forget what her name is, but she's the actress from I don't know if you watched that show with it's like oh sirens, yeah.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: She's from the show Sirens, the the younger sister, and last but not least, I still have Disclosure Day on my list, which is the Steven Spielberg movie.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: I think it's Steven Spielberg, yeah.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: So those I still haven't done, but yeah, okay.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: I guess I'll just say like materialist I loved, I freaking loved it more than I thought.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, I think the biggest reason why I loved it is because I'm realizing that as I get older, you guys, and as I am more in the like adulting real world, I really use film and like movies and the arts to kind.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Of escape, and what that has been looking like with movies and certain things that I watch is I find myself gravitating towards movies and shows that are very kind of like hallmarky, like they all have good endings, happy endings, you know, and just very cheesy and feel-good, things like Bridgerton, that kind of stuff, even though they're intense and like there's drama in it, but you know, like it's gonna end well, or it's not gonna get too gory or out of hand, or just like unsettling.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: So I feel like that's why I really like the materialist because while there were some up ups and downs, not really that much, but some in the movie, I feel like I'm I'm saying I feel like a lot, and if that's annoying, I'm sorry.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: I think I'm annoying myself, but anyways, whatever.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: I'm probably not gonna stop saying it.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: Oh well, at least I took notice, I guess.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: I'll do I'll try to do better.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_00: But the materialist was just it felt very light, it was very feel-good, it felt like kind of the feeling you got from those early 2000s to you know to 2010s rom-coms that are just very bright and kind of calm and feel-good, like that's what it felt like, and just the visual aesthetic, like the actual cinematography, was so beautiful.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: I remember I was listening to a podcast when that movie, like around the time that movie came out, when where this lady was saying how she's from New York, the lady who was talking about, and she was saying, like, the way that the person shot the movie, like it's it's so beautiful, and it made her so nostalgic for that era when she was new to New York because it captured it perfectly.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: And though I've never lived in New York, I am familiar with New York and I've been there, I have family there, anyways.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: I have family there and all, but it was just so beautiful and just aesthetic, especially the nature, uh the flora and fauna of New England, especially I've noticed in New York, all the states kind of, depending on how far you go from you know certain locations.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_00: But if you really notice, if you're a nature girly like me or nature guy, nature boy, if you're a nature girly or a nature boy, you'll notice the differences, and even if they're like slight differences, but you'll notice them when you move across states, and New York has this particular flora and farm that's very kind of distinct, at least to what I'm used to, and so just seeing that in the movie, it was beautiful, it was a nice, feel-good movie, um, interesting to watch.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: One thing I will say is I feel like it moved kind of fast through the storyline, but I think a lot of movies nowadays kind of do that.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_00: I think that's just the aesthetic and the vibe and the blueprint of where movies are kind of moving in the modern in this modern period that we live in and all the changes that comes with that.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: So I'm not too mad at it for that.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: It just kind of made me feel this disconnected a little bit, like yeah, it wasn't too emotionally, you know, in depth, which I think maybe I mean I don't know if that's what they were going for, but I think that's some maybe what they were going for, just to feel good.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's a rom-com, it was it had funny parts.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: It was I don't know.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: You guys should watch it.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: I would definitely recommend you watch it and make your own opinion.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_00: But moving on, baby girl, I like that one.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_00: I liked it, yeah.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_00: It was interesting for sure, it kept my attention, but I don't know.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: I feel like I was kind of lost and a little bit confused with certain things that made me not like the movie as much until the very end, which sometimes really annoys me.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_00: Like when when they say like you really have to watch a movie to the very end, it wasn't until I watched it until the end that I was like, oh, this is why she's doing all that, and that's why.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: So I feel like I need to rewatch the movie again, but I did kind of go back and watch certain clips that I was kind of lost in now that I understood it, and you know, I think it made me like the movie more.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_00: But I guess I what I'll say is when you're watching that movie, like just hang in there.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: You might feel like, what am I watching?
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_00: Like, why am I watching this movie?
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_00: It is very interesting at certain points, but I think it also loses you at certain points.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_00: But I would just say hold on until the end, and I think it'll tie it all into a nice into a neat knot.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_00: But I don't know, I think just the overall like dragging it out and kind of being lost, and yeah, and just the topic, honestly, is a little taboo, or not really, it's just it's like vanilla taboo.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's sounds like contradicting itself, but yeah, I liked it.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_00: I'd watch it again now that I understand the ending, but yeah, okay.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: Next, the moment that one was okay.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: I didn't really like it, but I'll I put like a mid for it because it's I told you guys that's the one by um Charlie XEX, and it's not really like you know how like artists when they go on tour, or they have like yeah, they go on tour, they'll make like a tour movie, and it's like kind of like a documentary.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_00: It wasn't that at all.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_00: It was I feel like it was a movie about what a tour would look like as Charlie XXX.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_00: Like Charlie XX became like a quote unquote fictional character playing like her life, so it was exaggerated in a lot of ways, and yeah, I think mostly very exaggerated.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_00: And with that exaggerated, with that exaggeration was Charlie's character.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_00: Obviously, she's playing herself, her version of Charlie, but that version of Charlie was so freaking annoying, dude.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_00: Like everything about her, her temperament, like the way that she wouldn't stick to one thing, you know.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: It seems like she was kind of flip-flop-I don't know.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_00: I had a hard time, you know.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_00: When someone is just like their awkwardness, you get like second-hand anxiety from them.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_00: It was just making me anxious, and I didn't like that feeling watching the movie, and I was just getting annoyed by her and just being like, oh my god, dude, I just want to like knock this girl off the side of the head.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: She's so annoying, and just the movie in general, too.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it was kind of weird and like dramatic and theatrical in ways that which I'm fine with, I'm fine with drama and theatric because I love it actually, but I feel like it has to connect and it has to come out in the right times and the right places, and for me, this movie it was coming out in the weird in the wrong places, which was making it kind of weird and just like an odd duck of a movie for me, so it was okay.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_00: Again, I think another movie that it kind of the reason why I won't say I didn't totally dislike is because at the end it kind of tied it all together and made it feel like okay, at least I'm getting some closure because it's also a little bit confusing as well as to why this girl Charlie is doing the things that she's doing and like why is she acting like that?
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_00: So it like gives you a little bit of closure, but just the experience of the movie was not really fun for me.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: It was anxious-filled.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, anyways, so Dust Bunny again, like I said, I forget the name by the yeah, I forget the name of that actor and the little girl, but it was good.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_00: I liked it, it was very fantastical.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_00: That's why I put that movie on my playlist because the my inner child, you know, who loves animated movies or sci-fi or like action, that kind of stuff, really wanted to watch this movie, which is about like um this little girl and her monster, which is like a dust bunny that that it's literally comes from like it grows from a pile of dust, which turns into a dust bunny, and that dust bunny turns into like a monster, and it's in relation to this little girl, and this monster is like terrorizing her, it lives under her bed, and it's kind of scary, but like goofy at the same time, which is unsettling in a very pleasant way, like it's serious in the ways in which it's like scary and kind of gruesome and violent, but the goofiness makes it really entertaining for my inner child and just fantastical and like the sci-fi.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_00: So I liked it, I think it's very interesting.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_00: It like it drops you like literally the first seconds of the movie drops you straight into that sci-fi fantastical world.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_00: So I don't think I was ready for that.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: I think just like if you're gonna watch it, strap in.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: But I think if I had been more prepared and knowing that, like, yes, boom, we're going to another realm, like then I would have been like, I don't know, felt more connected.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_00: But at the beginning, I was a little bit like, whoa, what is this?
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_00: And as I went back and re-watched the trailer, the movie, I was like, Well, duh, but yeah, it's very, very, very out of the box, which I like movies like that.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I liked it, it was cute.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, getting closer to the end here, Death of the Unicorn.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_00: I love that movie, it was so interesting, and not like well, no, I'm not gonna say not like any movie I've ever watched before because it has that element of like you know, a dinner party, and something's going wrong, and death is involved, and like conspiracy is involved, and people are just like there's like it's like a dinner party kind of theme.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: It's not really a dinner party going on, but they do go to this person's like secluded residence, like these rich people, they have their mansion, and then something happens, and it's like you know, all this mystery.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_00: So it's not like anything I've never seen before, but just the the topic, you know, a unicorn, death of a unicorn is exactly what it sounds like.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_00: It's like I've never really watched a movie like that before, like sci-fi like that.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, that was really interesting and funny, and just yeah, it's very entertaining.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_00: That's a great movie to watch.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_00: I don't want to spoil anything, so I don't want to say too much about it because I'm afraid like I'm gonna reveal key information, but it was great.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_00: I love Jenna Ortega, I love her from Wednesday, and I've been keeping up with her ever since then, and yeah, I just continue to really like I love her style of acting and her character, and yeah, I love that movie, it was really good and really also feel good.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_00: Um, so I will say that it is feel good, it is very entertaining and kind of like mysterious and like puts you at the edge of your seat, but it's it's feel good, so it's not like too out there.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, it is out there, but it's it ties it in a nice little knob.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_00: That's all I'll say.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I definitely recommend that movie.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, last but not least, or maybe it is least, was the substance.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_00: And the reason I'm saying least is because I did not like this movie.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_00: I and at first I put a the rating I put next to it is like a mid, so which is like meh, which is like I'm like okay.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_00: But now that I think back about it, I did not like this movie.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_00: The word I kept getting that kept coming to my mind for this movie was grotesque.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_00: That movie is grotesque, some like um, what is that called?
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: Centipede, you know, human centipede type of grotesque.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_00: Obviously, it's not like a thriller.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, is it a thriller?
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_00: And I I will say, in the defense of the movie, I think it does that on purpose, and that's kind of a that's the point of it, because it has to do with like body dysmorphia and you know the extremes of what that looks like when somebody is willing to go to like real grotesque extremes to you know pacify their insecurities about their body dysmorphia, etc.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_00: But I still wasn't prepared for all of that.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know, and I I told you guys, I realized I just told you guys when I'm watching like shows, it's usually when I'm eating, and so I kept realizing this pattern of when I was watching this movie and I was watching it in increments because I don't have time to watch movies in one sitting like that anymore, especially not this season.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_00: I was like, Oh, right, I can't watch this movie while I'm eating because it's disgusting, it's grotesque.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I ugh I don't want to watch this while I'm eating, so yeah, just I know they do it on purpose, but I don't even I don't know if I want to say it's too much because I think that was the point, but it was just so much and so grotesque, and ugh yeah, maybe it is the point to show us like you know how far someone is willing to go be for all the things that I just said, and maybe the movie's not necessarily giving us an answer as to like what should be done about it, which I can appreciate, you know, make up your own minds about how this makes you feel.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_00: But me personally, I don't know, I didn't really like the themes, especially like the themes about the way that they made it seem and tie it all, especially because some of the actions that this woman, Demi Moore, was taking was just so extreme.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_00: Like, even if you're experiencing, you know, judgment, we all especially as women, we all know what it's like to be judged for our bodies, and obviously, because of you know her character, she works like in media, she's in the public eye, so she experiences a lot of that pressure based off of her looks and how she looks, her physical appearance is crucial, it's scrutinized a lot, and we know this as women, and I'm not saying this to excuse them because it's not okay, because I think they're really good about showing how just callous some people can be in terms of just how they throw away people based on physical attraction and the value, especially like youth and you know, ageism, all of that.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_00: So I think the movie does a good job at showing that, but I didn't like how at the end, or not that I don't again, I don't want to spoil anything, but not like at the direct end, but you like the the closing theme was kind of it seemed like it was kind of blaming all of all of the bullshit, bullshit that this woman and her the other actress, I forget her name, what they were doing, basically blaming it on like you know, it's because society puts all these pressures again that definitely plays a part into it, but where was like the there wasn't really any any accountability on the part of the woman?
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_00: Like, obviously, we all know she's batshit crazy and she's doing crazy stuff, but I feel like the movie didn't really touch on like okay, where does this woman stop and say to herself, like, gosh, I have a problem and I need help, like I need to talk to someone.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_00: You know, where's the like self-accountability?
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_00: I feel like it was most all blaming it all, and like you know, the society that we're living in right now, especially with social media and just people being ruthless on social media, which I get again, I I'm conceding, like that is a big part of it too, you know, just like bullying and what that does to someone's mental health.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, I think it's nuanced, and we also have to take accountability for ourselves and like turn off and let go of things and realize that okay, I'm feeling this way, but I can't literally chop myself to pieces and do these crazy batshit crazy things because I'm struggling with my physical appearance.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not saying I'm not saying that you're not allowed to feel the emotions behind that, but the actions that you're taking because of how you're feeling, because your feelings can't jump out of your chest and make you do things, right?
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_00: You to a certain extent choose to act on those feelings, and so where is the self-accountability for just like stopping and being like, damn, like I need to do something about this?
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_00: So, and on top of it, just the grot oh, it was so disgusting, you guys, especially like at the end, it was just a lot, and just theatrical, and I don't know.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I definitely understand why I think a lot of people were disappointed and why Demi Moore then didn't win the Oscar in I'm not sure what year it was.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it was 2024 or 2025, but it was Mikey Madison who won.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_00: And people were like, Oh my god, it should have been Demi.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_00: And people thought it was going to be Demi Moore.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_00: But now that I've watched it, like obviously it like it was a great performance in her transformation.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_00: That's something I've noticed in terms of like Oscar contenders.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_00: People look a lot, you know, at transformation, and if someone underwent like literally a physical change for the movie, then that just shows like dedication, etc.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_00: So she does undergo like a crazy transformation in that movie, especially like she's such a beautiful woman, she does not look like herself in this movie at all.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_00: But in terms of like performance, yeah, Mikey Madison definitely even now.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_00: I haven't I haven't re-watched Honora by the way, and her performance is still very fresh on my mind, so I can't imagine re-watching it again.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_00: What the new details I would notice.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, Mikey Madison definitely deserved that Oscar over Demi, which again was a great performance.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_00: But oh, if this movie had won, I think watching it now, I would be upset because, like, I don't really see why it was Oscar nominated.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_00: I think it's because of the there's a new style in Hollywood that's like rising in terms of just aesthetics and how movies are created.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_00: And A24, like that studio, is uh is behind a lot of those kinds of movies.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they're creatively inspiring those movies, or if they're just like picking them up and acquiring them and they're sponsoring those kinds of movies, which they are, or like both, but yeah, they're a lot of like the a new A24 movies, like they have that aesthetic of just very kind of jarring and on the nose, but theatrically so, and kind of edgy and almost like I don't know, sci-fi and cosmic, like it's it's like a like a comic book, but reality TV, but theater, like it's very modern and very um, I don't fully know what how to describe it because I think we're still very much so in the middle of it developing and that taking shape, so we don't fully know what it looks like, but yeah, I think that's why the substance was nominated for an Oscar because it very much so embodies that new age the way movies are being made now, um, style.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: So I could see that, but in terms of like oh, I don't know, the substance lol pun literally not even intended, but I guess intended the substance of the movie, it felt kind of surface level, like I don't know if if the goal was to put women off from or to kind of shake women or people awake to just the epidemic of self-scrutinizing to the point where it's just like again, I'm not coming down on anybody for like plastic surgery, that kind of stuff, but it's rampant, and also you know, the demographic, like you know, younger and younger people whose frontal lobe are not fully developed, are just like yeah, just partaking in certain things that are just wild.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_00: And again, I'm not coming down on anybody obviously to each their own, but when you notice something being rampant, and you just want people to be careful because these are like very invasive, and that's why the movie was so grotesque because it's so in it's literally your body, dude, like your nerves, your senses, you feel all of that pain and like bodily fluids, like it's ugh, it's real.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_00: So, if that was the goal, it was to wake up, kind of shove it in people's face in a disgusting way, and make it seem grotesque.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_00: Then I will definitely give the substance its flowers because it definitely did that.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_00: I'm fortunate.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_00: Um, oh my god, I'm gonna sound like a pick me.
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I don't.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, I'm a woman, I'm a girl, so I definitely struggle with self-esteem issues in relation to my physical appearance at times, so I'm not saying that I don't experience that, but I'm glad and I'm grateful that I've practiced this concept of body neutrality where I, you know, may not necessarily be confident with every part of my body, but I'm not going to like let my thoughts get out of hand in judging myself to the point where I'm like, you know, I can't even live with myself and for another day, and I need to go do this procedure in order to live with myself.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_00: So I'm grateful that I don't experience that to such an intense level.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_00: So I think maybe I was just not this movie's audience, but I if that's what it was trying to do, and maybe it's nuanced what it was trying to do, then I can appreciate it for that.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_00: But yeah, in terms of the grotesqueness of it and the vividness of it, it lost me, it really lost me there, so yeah.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_00: But that's all I have for you guys today.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_00: I think I've yapped enough in this episode.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, it's been uh I was gonna say short and sweet.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_00: This episode is not short and sweet, lol, but it's just been a very focused and grounded, very low-key uh season, and I feel like my zeitgeist has been very kind of straightforward and kind of grounded and not really as fantastical as it can be because there are some seasons where I'm just like whoa, buzzing, buzzing.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed this episode.
