- 0:02Speaker 1: Two Teas and a Pod which Teddy Mellencamp and camera Judge.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hi, guys, welcome to another episode of Two Teas and
- 0:18Speaker 2: a Pause. Is myself and Sambra Judge, and we have
- 0:23Speaker 2: our very own Alex Baskin here. He submitted a very
- 0:27Speaker 2: serious photograph, very Zoolander.
- 0:30Speaker 3: It's very Zoolander. It's sex appeal. And I like the
- 0:35Speaker 3: tan too.
- 0:36Speaker 4: He's very tanned. He's normally pasty white in person.
- 0:39Speaker 3: A touch of a smirk because he's up to no good.
- 0:43Speaker 3: His bio reads.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Alex Baskin, CEO of the newly launched thirty two Flavors Entertainment,
- 0:48Speaker 2: is the executive producer of long running hit shows including
- 0:51Speaker 2: the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of
- 0:54Speaker 2: Orange County, Vander Rules, and Botch, as well as forthcoming
- 0:57Speaker 2: series four, among others Netflix, Ulu and Paramount Plutz, as
- 1:02Speaker 2: well as feature films. As the president of Evolution Media,
- 1:05Speaker 2: he oversaw more than four dozen series during his tenure.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Along with his business partner.
- 1:11Speaker 3: He sold the company to MGM in twenty seventeen.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I would like to see the Twatts in there as
- 1:16Speaker 4: one of your shows that you're producing.
- 1:19Speaker 3: The new twat show.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I am. I'm very excited you guys make guest appearances.
- 1:25Speaker 5: I did, we don't.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Okay, So thirty two flavors, can you just set the
- 1:30Speaker 4: record straight? Did your family did your family own thirty
- 1:34Speaker 4: one Flavors? Well, Alex Baskin.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Alex Baskin, My god, this is the hot seat. I
- 1:43Speaker 5: to tell you too that this is ground zero of
- 1:45Speaker 5: my misery. You guys call me more problems in this show.
- 1:49Speaker 5: Its popularity has.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Just answer the question.
- 1:52Speaker 5: So okay, thanks Baskin.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Robbins.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Oh my god, my dad's uncle founded.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Uncle so pretty much related as Heather Gay is to
- 2:03Speaker 2: me rose to me, Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 3: How much?
- 2:06Speaker 5: But you guys are scandalizing this. I mean you're you know.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's what we do for a living.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I know.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I mean the company is just like what you do
- 2:12Speaker 4: to us, just like you do to us.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Oh treat me like.
- 2:15Speaker 2: No, you realize I didn't know this until I asked Kyle.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I go, is this actually Alex's email? And she goes, yes,
- 2:23Speaker 2: Teddy bask and like you didn't get that, and I was.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Like, no, we didn't. Yes, it's a player on the
- 2:29Speaker 5: company that I played no role in. That's exactly flavors.
- 2:33Speaker 5: I can confirm that, but we added one more flavor. Yeah, yes,
- 2:37Speaker 5: that's exactly. Yeah, and I am enough.
- 2:39Speaker 3: You are enough? Are you Twizzler flavor?
- 2:41Speaker 5: Is that or love those Twizzlers? Cannot get it us?
- 2:45Speaker 2: But you also have a podcast coming out. Yeah, my gosh,
- 2:48Speaker 2: it's gonna be a big competition. Are you in TV
- 2:50Speaker 2: and film?
- 2:51Speaker 5: What's your Well, there's yeah, more to come on that,
- 2:55Speaker 5: but podcast launches November fourteenth, and it's behind the scenes
- 2:59Speaker 5: of shows because so many other people are telling the
- 3:03Speaker 5: story and there's so much bullshit out there that the
- 3:05Speaker 5: idea was, let's actually start telling the story ourselves. And
- 3:11Speaker 5: so my first guests include none other than Tamra Judge
- 3:15Speaker 5: Kyle is one of my guests. Shooting a bunch more
- 3:17Speaker 5: right now, and so I'm excited.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Are you enjoying it?
- 3:21Speaker 5: I'm having fun with it. I'm having more fun than
- 3:22Speaker 5: I thought because it's a very hard time listening to
- 3:26Speaker 5: myself and watching myself. You can take a look at
- 3:28Speaker 5: the cuts it first, we've had.
- 3:30Speaker 4: This conversation before. You do not like to see yourself?
- 3:34Speaker 4: I do in front of the camera like you've always
- 3:35Speaker 4: been behind the camera. This is this the first time
- 3:38Speaker 4: you've been in front of the camera.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Well, I've made appearances and things like retrospectives about the
- 3:43Speaker 5: shows and stuff like that, but I've never, you know,
- 3:47Speaker 5: never in sort of this capacity. I've never really been
- 3:50Speaker 5: interested in doing it and be self conscious and who
- 3:54Speaker 5: wants to look at and listen to Well.
- 3:56Speaker 4: You're going to be a superstar.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Well I don't know about that.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Are you gonna listen to your own episodes and essentially
- 4:03Speaker 2: produce them yourself?
- 4:05Speaker 5: I've had to so I was not going to, and
- 4:07Speaker 5: I was adamant about that, and I let everyone involved
- 4:09Speaker 5: know that. And then when notes were flying back and
- 4:12Speaker 5: forth about the episodes, it's like, well, shit, I got
- 4:15Speaker 5: to weigh in, and I can't unless I know what
- 4:17Speaker 5: I'm talking about. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 3: See, we cannot listen to ourselves.
- 4:21Speaker 2: We like to stick our heads in the sand and
- 4:23Speaker 2: pretend that whatever we said or I've always been like that.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Well, see, I don't have a luxury if not listening
- 4:28Speaker 5: to you guys, because once again, these people complain paints
- 4:31Speaker 5: that I get. That's exactly it is. You guys are
- 4:34Speaker 5: nothing but trouble of giving Amy Sugarman shit about it?
- 4:36Speaker 4: Is it cast members on or is it across the board,
- 4:40Speaker 4: different roads.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Across the board. It's cast, it's production, it's the network.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Like you guys have it all covered.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Well, I have.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I had to squash the beef quite a few times,
- 4:50Speaker 4: and I think it airs tonight at Bravo Khan, I said, Andy,
- 4:54Speaker 4: why me every time he goes because you're the one
- 4:56Speaker 4: with the podcast.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Yeah, and let me tell you, guys do not have
- 5:01Speaker 5: the podcast because you are meek and you don't have opinions.
- 5:04Speaker 2: We Tamar always has opinions, but her biggest opinion is
- 5:08Speaker 2: that I cause more shit than her.
- 5:10Speaker 3: And I want to know is that actually accurate?
- 5:13Speaker 5: I mean that is like, you know, six of one
- 5:15Speaker 5: half of another. I don't know what to say. Guys
- 5:18Speaker 5: are both assholes.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Teddy causes more problems online.
- 5:24Speaker 5: That's probably true. I would say Tamar's more dangerous in
- 5:27Speaker 5: the moment. But then, yeah, you know you are absolutely
- 5:31Speaker 5: committed to.
- 5:32Speaker 3: What if I think something is accurate?
- 5:34Speaker 4: She will not let it go.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I will not let it go.
- 5:37Speaker 2: But if somebody will actually show me a touch of
- 5:41Speaker 2: kindness or be a regular functioning human being with me,
- 5:46Speaker 2: I can let it go. Like what Tamar can have issues? Yes,
- 5:50Speaker 2: and we can let it go.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Right, Alex, what are your thoughts on Teddy's squash the
- 5:54Speaker 4: beef with Vicky?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Oh god, I just said we weren't talking about this anymore.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I even use the tailor armstrong enough.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Well, I was surprised and not surprised with her child,
- 6:06Speaker 5: and so I just I mean, you came out firing.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Well, she had already.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I heard her say, she's disgusting, she's pathetic.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I was told, do not bring up January sixth. The
- 6:18Speaker 3: first thing that she does is go, let's talk about
- 6:20Speaker 3: January sixth.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I told you that was going to happen. She brought
- 6:24Speaker 4: it up on the carpet, the red carpet, and her
- 6:26Speaker 4: and I got into an argument on the red carpet.
- 6:28Speaker 4: So I go be prepared. She's going to bring that up.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Here's the thing.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I would have been happy to squash that beef if
- 6:33Speaker 2: she would have just come out and for once.
- 6:35Speaker 4: And would you don't believe that, Alex?
- 6:38Speaker 5: Oh please, you're saying you would have been the bigger
- 6:40Speaker 5: person if she had been the bigger person, I mean
- 6:41Speaker 5: you might like you just cancered her.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I did. I did have to cancer in that moment.
- 6:48Speaker 2: You are currently the executive producer of Orange County, Beverly
- 6:52Speaker 2: Hills and Pump Rules.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But how did you get your start in all of this?
- 6:56Speaker 5: I interned a MTV out of high school and I
- 7:00Speaker 5: fell in love with the business. And then I had
- 7:02Speaker 5: a detour in law school and loved law school and
- 7:05Speaker 5: met some great people, but knew that's not what I
- 7:07Speaker 5: wanted to do because I just was bored by it.
- 7:10Speaker 5: And I looked at successful partners at the firms that
- 7:12Speaker 5: I worked for and thought not for me. And I
- 7:15Speaker 5: had met Doug Ross from Evolution years before and he
- 7:19Speaker 5: had said, look, you know, I give me a call
- 7:21Speaker 5: if you ever want a job, and so I did,
- 7:25Speaker 5: remembered me, brought me on and then we started doing
- 7:28Speaker 5: a sleepy little show called The Real Housewives of Orange
- 7:30Speaker 5: County and that took off.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And I have a quick question. Now, your parents thrilled
- 7:36Speaker 4: that you went to law school and you decided I'm
- 7:38Speaker 4: going to go.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Into ralett your life, Smiley, It is well like I
- 7:44Speaker 6: will say that when I considered dropping out of law school,
- 7:46Speaker 6: my parents made me promise them that I would finish it,
- 7:50Speaker 6: and so then I held up my.
- 7:51Speaker 5: End of the bargain, and I think they were thinking,
- 7:53Speaker 5: that's not what we had in mind. Yeah, you didn't
- 7:55Speaker 5: think had oft in that direction.
- 7:58Speaker 3: But how often is being a lawyer act help in
- 8:00Speaker 3: what you're doing? Especially with this group?
- 8:03Speaker 5: Unfortunately, it is the training that I would recommend that
- 8:06Speaker 5: everyone gets more than film school, that's for sure. Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I get free label advice from them all the time. Yes, Alex,
- 8:13Speaker 4: what do I do now?
- 8:15Speaker 5: Can I say? This is?
- 8:16Speaker 2: This definition pretty much is like be quiet and we're
- 8:19Speaker 2: He's like, yes.
- 8:20Speaker 3: We're not listening time.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Do you watch any other franchises other than the ones
- 8:27Speaker 3: that you produce?
- 8:29Speaker 5: Occasionally I will dip it and dip out of other franchises.
- 8:32Speaker 5: I watch a lot of other kinds of programming, But
- 8:34Speaker 5: it's not as much fun for me to watch the
- 8:36Speaker 5: shows because I feel like, I, you know, know how
- 8:39Speaker 5: they're made, and so I can see the notes that
- 8:41Speaker 5: went into them, and so it's not a relaxing experience
- 8:45Speaker 5: for me.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Now, can you explain your role now? Because originally you
- 8:50Speaker 4: were owner and you have sold in the past five years,
- 8:53Speaker 4: how are things different? Are you still involved in evolution?
- 8:59Speaker 5: An involved in evolution, but I'm involved in all the shows,
- 9:01Speaker 5: and so my role really hasn't changed. The difference is
- 9:04Speaker 5: instead of running that company, I run my own and
- 9:07Speaker 5: then all my new series run through my company, and
- 9:10Speaker 5: these series are co productions, and so I still do
- 9:13Speaker 5: everything that I did before, which is you know, creative
- 9:15Speaker 5: oversight and and you know, oversight over the entire production.
- 9:21Speaker 5: So that's everything from production management to the deals to
- 9:25Speaker 5: the creative all that stuff.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Do you potentially see thirty two Flavors taking over Orange
- 9:32Speaker 4: County or I.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Mean, I'm you know, is it a goal? Please with no?
- 9:37Speaker 5: I mean, I don't really think in those terms. They
- 9:39Speaker 5: just sort of, you know, think about continuing to be
- 9:43Speaker 5: a part of the shows. And I agreed to do
- 9:45Speaker 5: that for the foreseeable future, and so you know, that's
- 9:48Speaker 5: sort of that. And then a lot of my time
- 9:49Speaker 5: has spent on the new projects as well.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And then how much are you still involved in like
- 9:56Speaker 2: the the casting or the editing or any of those
- 10:01Speaker 2: types of things.
- 10:02Speaker 5: A lot, I mean in the way that that I
- 10:04Speaker 5: always have been. But I will say too because I
- 10:06Speaker 5: don't want to appear as though I'm taking a bunch
- 10:08Speaker 5: of credit because I work with some of the most
- 10:11Speaker 5: skilled people you know that that I could possibly want
- 10:14Speaker 5: to be on a team with and so day to
- 10:17Speaker 5: day A lot of that is taken by people who
- 10:18Speaker 5: have made the shows for a long time. But I'm
- 10:21Speaker 5: as involved as I was before I made the move,
- 10:23Speaker 5: before I ventured out onto my own.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Now, the social media fans are very just hard
- 10:31Speaker 4: on us, right. They tell you who they hate, they
- 10:34Speaker 4: tell you who they love. Does that have any reflection
- 10:37Speaker 4: and what decisions are made? Does Bravo or production look
- 10:41Speaker 4: at that and go, oh, well, you know what they
- 10:43Speaker 4: really hate?
- 10:44Speaker 5: Terror?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Should we get rid of her?
- 10:45Speaker 5: Well, we're aware of it, but I don't think it's
- 10:48Speaker 5: one to one with what we do. And Bravo kentuckts
- 10:51Speaker 5: in their own reasons. God is.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Sure I might get another I might get another season.
- 10:59Speaker 5: If you treat me well.
- 11:01Speaker 3: So are you saying I didn't treat you well?
- 11:03Speaker 5: No, you know you're a little bit rude. I remember
- 11:05Speaker 5: you didn't have a diet coke for me at one point.
- 11:07Speaker 5: So today, okay, sorry, my time I might be off. Sorry,
- 11:12Speaker 5: so I'll apologize at the reunion. But no, I mean
- 11:17Speaker 5: I you know. We're aware of the fact too that
- 11:19Speaker 5: the audience responds strongly sometimes to people who are very
- 11:22Speaker 5: involved in story and so we sort of filter all
- 11:25Speaker 5: of that out, but it's hard to tune it out completely,
- 11:28Speaker 5: you know, so, and you can't get to the point
- 11:31Speaker 5: where the audience just does not want to watch someone anymore,
- 11:34Speaker 5: or someone is completely on the outs from the group.
- 11:37Speaker 5: But we don't make decisions by you know, the extreme
- 11:40Speaker 5: nature of social media at any given point.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah. Andy made a comment years ago he said, when
- 11:46Speaker 4: the fans love to hate you versus hate to hate you, yes,
- 11:51Speaker 4: is all the difference.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Yeah. I think that's right. And I think that you
- 11:55Speaker 5: kind of know when you cross that line, so that.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I teeter on that line.
- 12:04Speaker 2: It's a tyrope, do you And I mean I already
- 12:07Speaker 2: know the answer I think to this, But do.
- 12:09Speaker 3: You pick favorites?
- 12:11Speaker 5: No, I mean you can't. You really try not to.
- 12:13Speaker 5: And I always say this that I think that you
- 12:16Speaker 5: have to treat everyone equally and fairly, but you treat
- 12:20Speaker 5: everyone differently in the sense that everyone's a different person, right,
- 12:23Speaker 5: And so my conversations with different casts are different. But
- 12:26Speaker 5: we never go into a season knowing who's gonna have
- 12:30Speaker 5: a good season, who's gonna have a bad season, And
- 12:32Speaker 5: we never try to help someone out or you know,
- 12:37Speaker 5: ding someone else and that isn't the case.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But do you ever feel like there is a way
- 12:43Speaker 2: that you could potentially show more of a potential person,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but you don't because it's it doesn't behoove what image you.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Want to portray for that person.
- 12:54Speaker 5: No, I mean we don't have a narrative in advance.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Well, like people are saying, okay, Crystal, this cut out
- 13:00Speaker 2: this year, or this was cut out this year of
- 13:02Speaker 2: things that we saw on social media, is any of
- 13:04Speaker 2: that planned?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Or we just were talking about it on the pod
- 13:06Speaker 3: where like, okay, we know she had another party.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Well, and I said, they can't play everything right, so
- 13:11Speaker 4: we don't.
- 13:12Speaker 5: And it caught by the way, it costs a lot
- 13:14Speaker 5: of money to not use something right. So when you
- 13:16Speaker 5: cut something out, it's because you had to make other decisions.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Well, I would say, she had a party in Vegas,
- 13:21Speaker 4: do we need to show another.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Party in LA and that that's right. I mean, I
- 13:24Speaker 5: mean that's what we're thinking. And so our thinking is,
- 13:26Speaker 5: you know, we wanted to get to Vegas quickly. Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 5: So it's it's all of those things. But you never,
- 13:31Speaker 5: you know, I shouldn't say never. You very rarely shoot
- 13:34Speaker 5: something with an intention of not using it, and it
- 13:36Speaker 5: isn't like you don't if something interesting happens, you know
- 13:40Speaker 5: you're gonna use it right right, and then you know
- 13:43Speaker 5: and then you just make a bunch of decisions. Into
- 13:44Speaker 5: Tammer's point, like you have to cut stuff out.
- 13:47Speaker 2: And sometimes you'll end up using just from my guess,
- 13:50Speaker 2: sometimes you guys end up using stuff that's not as interesting.
- 13:53Speaker 3: But it tells the story of what's coming next.
- 13:54Speaker 5: It puts the pieces together. That's right. It's connective tissue.
- 13:57Speaker 4: It's a puzzle.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 2: So, so was there a wife you weren't sure of,
- 14:03Speaker 2: like when you first saw a video or anything that
- 14:06Speaker 2: actually ended up being a breakout hit or an amazing
- 14:09Speaker 2: housewife that really caught you off guard?
- 14:12Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I mean sometimes you know, Look, I think
- 14:17Speaker 5: that the casting tapes Hammer and I talked about this,
- 14:19Speaker 5: you know a little bit a couple of weeks ago.
- 14:20Speaker 5: I think that the casting tapes are one thing, and
- 14:23Speaker 5: then I think when you put someone in play, I
- 14:25Speaker 5: think it's a different thing altogether. And then I also
- 14:27Speaker 5: think that people grow into themselves and I think that
- 14:30Speaker 5: you know, they can get better with the experience, Like
- 14:32Speaker 5: I think Emily Simpson is so found herself.
- 14:35Speaker 4: I was just gonna say that, Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes it
- 14:38Speaker 4: takes people a few years to get their feet on
- 14:42Speaker 4: the ground and like Okay, I'm doing this, and then
- 14:44Speaker 4: they're very protective of themselves. And then there's other ding
- 14:47Speaker 4: dongs like me that just just go for it.
- 14:50Speaker 5: Yah yah.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Is there anyone in your opinion that did get away
- 14:56Speaker 2: too soon that actually could have?
- 14:59Speaker 5: Oh? I think that there's plenty of people that I
- 15:01Speaker 5: think didn't have enough of a shot. I think that,
- 15:04Speaker 5: you know, for example, Carlton and Beverly Hills, I think
- 15:08Speaker 5: came into the tough season and I think and may
- 15:11Speaker 5: or may not have been a fit for the show,
- 15:12Speaker 5: but I think she did, you know, everything that she
- 15:14Speaker 5: could have done to work, and I think that was
- 15:17Speaker 5: a tough season. I was trying to think of who else.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Oh, the hundredth housewife.
- 15:23Speaker 5: The Haggy there you go.
- 15:25Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, there's uh yeah, But I off the top
- 15:31Speaker 7: of my head, I can't think of anyone, But I
- 15:34Speaker 7: do think that look, I think in time, I think
- 15:37Speaker 7: it is something that you grow into.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah, can you can you explain to listeners what goes
- 15:42Speaker 4: through the process of finding a wife and how is
- 15:46Speaker 4: it difficult.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Really hard. I mean we we will. Your first thing
- 15:51Speaker 5: we do is we reach out to all of the
- 15:53Speaker 5: lives and ask them, you know, who they might have
- 15:56Speaker 5: for us, and they, like.
- 15:59Speaker 4: I did five years ago with Jen Pedronte and a
- 16:01Speaker 4: list of other girls from my gym.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Yeah, you're welcome.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Ye, thank you so much.
- 16:07Speaker 3: That worked out really well.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, who else do you have?
- 16:10Speaker 4: So it's Teddy Mellencamp, tam Is pitching.
- 16:17Speaker 5: I have been always to teas and an orange. But
- 16:23Speaker 5: so that those are the first conversations that we have,
- 16:25Speaker 5: and then we look. We try to look in and
- 16:27Speaker 5: around the places that people hang out and you know,
- 16:31Speaker 5: stock social media and sort of find out who is
- 16:35Speaker 5: in different friend groups. And it's it's that kind of thing.
- 16:38Speaker 5: And the amazing thing to me is all these years
- 16:40Speaker 5: later that we're still finding new people, and we will
- 16:43Speaker 5: find good friends that someone did not put in front
- 16:47Speaker 5: of us. I was like, you know, so then we'll
- 16:48Speaker 5: interview someone in Cassie, we'll find out they'll be a
- 16:51Speaker 5: good friend of one of the housewives who has never
- 16:53Speaker 5: offered off this person and then they'll say, oh, I
- 16:55Speaker 5: hadn't even thought about her, like you didn't want to
- 16:58Speaker 5: on the show.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, or certain people are going through different things in
- 17:02Speaker 2: their life that they may not necessarily want to show,
- 17:05Speaker 2: so at one.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Point they're going to say hard, no, I would never
- 17:07Speaker 3: do that.
- 17:08Speaker 5: That happens a lot.
- 17:09Speaker 3: No, what else happens a lot?
- 17:10Speaker 2: People said, Oh, I was offered to be the next
- 17:13Speaker 2: house while I hear that all the time all of
- 17:16Speaker 2: the time.
- 17:16Speaker 5: That drives me insane. It's completely untrue. We've offered very
- 17:22Speaker 5: few people who have not taken it the job. So
- 17:24Speaker 5: they may have had outreached from a casting person who
- 17:27Speaker 5: may have said, is it something you would consider, and
- 17:29Speaker 5: then you know, nine.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Times right, and they think they got the job.
- 17:31Speaker 5: That's exact. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 4: How many people have you offered a position and they
- 17:36Speaker 4: turned it down as a full time housewife? Has it
- 17:40Speaker 4: ever happened?
- 17:42Speaker 5: Ninety percent of the time may be higher if they
- 17:44Speaker 5: take the job.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I figured.
- 17:46Speaker 2: And is this the first time this season on Beverly
- 17:48Speaker 2: Hills that you guys have aired that a housewife sent
- 17:51Speaker 2: an email that they have quit the show.
- 17:54Speaker 5: No, I mean I've had I could make a coffee
- 17:57Speaker 5: table book out of people quitting the show. So that
- 18:00Speaker 5: time we've eririted, but it's not the first time that
- 18:01Speaker 5: it's happened.
- 18:02Speaker 2: But is it the first time that then the person
- 18:04Speaker 2: hasn't actually followed through with it?
- 18:06Speaker 5: Uh? Yeah, I mean I think at that point. I
- 18:09Speaker 5: think that I talked to her months later, months after
- 18:13Speaker 5: she sent that, and I think that, you know, look,
- 18:16Speaker 5: I think that it was kind of time for.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Her impulsive, Right, yeah, it's kind of impulsive.
- 18:21Speaker 5: But I think that it was and then and but
- 18:23Speaker 5: I also think that it I think at core, I
- 18:26Speaker 5: think that I think the show had been really hard
- 18:29Speaker 5: for her, and I think that, you know, she had
- 18:31Speaker 5: worked her ass off on it, and I think given
- 18:33Speaker 5: a lot to it. And I do think that she
- 18:35Speaker 5: was fundamentally done. I think there was a conversation about
- 18:37Speaker 5: her continuing, but I don't think that that's what she
- 18:40Speaker 5: wanted to do at that point in her life. And
- 18:42Speaker 5: I think it made sense there. And I, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 5: will miss someone like Lisa Rena because she was so
- 18:49Speaker 5: good on the show and made such so good, was
- 18:51Speaker 5: on the show for a long time, right and and
- 18:53Speaker 5: so and I remember she's someone that was actually better
- 18:56Speaker 5: than I thought that she might be because I thought
- 18:58Speaker 5: that she was like a talk show guest, and I
- 19:01Speaker 5: thought that, you know, she would be kind of controlled in.
- 19:05Speaker 4: An actress show.
- 19:06Speaker 5: That's exactly because we didn't used to bring actresses onto
- 19:10Speaker 5: the show, and it was something we deliberately didn't do
- 19:13Speaker 5: on Beverly Hills because Kyle and kimire actresses, but they
- 19:16Speaker 5: weren't currently currently you know, in that that wasn't sort
- 19:20Speaker 5: of how they identified, you know, at that point in time.
- 19:23Speaker 5: And you know, but Rena in the best way, was
- 19:27Speaker 5: fantastic on the show.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Can we ask the question about breaking the fourth wall?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Because I feel like it has significantly We see it
- 19:35Speaker 2: more and more now across the board at which I
- 19:37Speaker 2: love watching it anytime it happens.
- 19:39Speaker 3: But the first time that I had ever felt it
- 19:42Speaker 3: was that season that I was on with Denise.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and she brophsi but she probably did that, I
- 19:48Speaker 2: don't know, thirty times throughout the season anytime.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Well, so my policy i'm breaking the fourth wall is
- 19:54Speaker 5: pretty simple. We shouldn't do it unless it enhances the show, right,
- 19:58Speaker 5: and so you kind of do not want to be
- 20:01Speaker 5: self conscious about it. And it's super annoying when someone
- 20:03Speaker 5: is just looking into the camera or acting as though
- 20:06Speaker 5: they're on their own show and everyone else is on Housewives.
- 20:10Speaker 5: But I think if you need to break the fourth
- 20:12Speaker 5: wall to tell the story than you do, or if
- 20:14Speaker 5: there's a fun moment, then you do. So I think
- 20:16Speaker 5: as long as you don't set out to do it,
- 20:18Speaker 5: and as long as it helps you sort of you know,
- 20:21Speaker 5: sharpen the story and it makes it more real than
- 20:23Speaker 5: you do it.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Oh like the pretty Woman moment with Jureid, Like you
- 20:26Speaker 2: barely broke the fourth wall, but it made it funnier
- 20:28Speaker 2: and it yeah, yeah, but it didn't seem like you
- 20:30Speaker 2: guys were out to totally trap anybody in a situation exactly.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Or Shannon throughout her season on Orange County. I feel
- 20:37Speaker 2: like we saw more production than we saw Shannon.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, you know they could have been in the
- 20:42Speaker 5: main titles with her.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Well, she did a lot of things, you know, off camera,
- 20:46Speaker 4: we'll call it off camera, but in front of production.
- 20:49Speaker 4: So I think that they had every opportunity to show it.
- 20:51Speaker 4: I'm like, have you not Laura anything shown worse? Yes,
- 20:55Speaker 4: they could, but I think.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I think that the story right, I mean, and so
- 20:58Speaker 5: why we showed it?
- 21:00Speaker 4: Yeah? Have you ever had to demote a housewife to
- 21:04Speaker 4: a friend?
- 21:06Speaker 5: Yeah, how'd that go. It's really hard because it's you know,
- 21:12Speaker 5: becomes a pride factor. There's always a concern that the
- 21:16Speaker 5: housewife will be treated differently in the group, right, And
- 21:20Speaker 5: I'm so it's tough to coming.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Did you get paused or did you get.
- 21:22Speaker 4: To But for the record, I did not get offered
- 21:25Speaker 4: a friend roll. I got offered No. It was three
- 21:29Speaker 4: episodes to close me out, well close around just.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Three episodes done done by the way I found out
- 21:37Speaker 2: through the Daily Mail.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So f off tamp.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Well, he ruined my vacation.
- 21:43Speaker 5: So well, you should have had better cells, And we.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Talked about that. I don't want to talk too much
- 21:47Speaker 4: about it because we actually talk about on your podcast.
- 21:51Speaker 4: How much behind the scenes are you going to expose
- 21:54Speaker 4: on your new show?
- 21:56Speaker 5: Well, I mean, we want to open up what really
- 21:58Speaker 5: happens so that there's an standing of it because there's
- 22:02Speaker 5: so much speculation, conspiracy theories run rampant. You got a
- 22:05Speaker 5: lot of assholes running their mouths, and so the idea
- 22:08Speaker 5: is to talk about as much of it as we can. Obviously,
- 22:12Speaker 5: there's an amount of you know, decorum that I need
- 22:14Speaker 5: to maintain, and so there's things I would love to
- 22:17Speaker 5: say that sometimes I have to think the better of right.
- 22:20Speaker 5: But the idea is, you know, to give real insight
- 22:23Speaker 5: into how the shows are actually made and what happens,
- 22:28Speaker 5: because there's a lot things like hirings and firings and
- 22:33Speaker 5: what happened in kind of some of the most buzzed
- 22:36Speaker 5: about moments. So that's the idea of it's and it
- 22:39Speaker 5: really is also a conversation between the people who are
- 22:43Speaker 5: on the shows and the people who make the shows,
- 22:44Speaker 5: and I think seeing the relationships between them is important.
- 22:48Speaker 2: How quickly after cham got the boot, did you guys
- 22:52Speaker 2: realize you needed her back?
- 22:55Speaker 5: Well, we knew that there would be a big hole
- 22:58Speaker 5: without her, right, I mean, she was such an important
- 23:00Speaker 5: part of the show. So it felt like at the
- 23:03Speaker 5: time that it was one of those necessary things that
- 23:06Speaker 5: would hurt us. And it did. And I had a
- 23:08Speaker 5: really hard time with it. And you know, my hope
- 23:11Speaker 5: had been, well, we could you know, kind of talk,
- 23:15Speaker 5: we could talk through it and figure it out and
- 23:17Speaker 5: you would stay a part of the show. But we
- 23:18Speaker 5: talk about this, you know, on my podcast as well.
- 23:21Speaker 5: You really hated doing the show at that point.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I was, I was checked out and I was going
- 23:26Speaker 4: through a lot at the time too. So yeah, it
- 23:28Speaker 4: was like and I say, it's like it's a blessing.
- 23:31Speaker 4: It was a blessing that happened. You know, the kid's
- 23:33Speaker 4: dad had cancer. I was trying to help out with that,
- 23:36Speaker 4: and my kids really needed me even more at that moment,
- 23:39Speaker 4: like all the time, and so it was best that
- 23:43Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 23:43Speaker 5: And I still felt like we had you because we
- 23:45Speaker 5: did a lot of talking about you.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and every god damn episode for.
- 23:50Speaker 5: The single time, like Tamra would rail on about the
- 23:54Speaker 5: show teams. Like the other thing is you would complain
- 23:56Speaker 5: about what we actually aired and then what you heard
- 23:58Speaker 5: that we aired. Yeah, because I didn't watch, I would
- 24:01Speaker 5: tell you about.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I know, Eddie, Alex, Yes, okay, so yeah, I mean
- 24:08Speaker 2: I try to like play. I really have to wait
- 24:10Speaker 2: to like be in a real bad way to then
- 24:13Speaker 2: send that text to Alex. Like I'm like, I'm like,
- 24:17Speaker 2: see me again the ship they did that again. But
- 24:19Speaker 2: then I'm like, nope, I'm holding it in.
- 24:21Speaker 4: I've always had a really close relationship with Alex, Like
- 24:24Speaker 4: I know that I can always pick up the phone
- 24:26Speaker 4: and call him, I can text him at any time.
- 24:29Speaker 4: I know that he got frustrated with me a few
- 24:31Speaker 4: times because I was being very vocal and I had
- 24:35Speaker 4: a conversation with Andy and he's like, well, Tam Or,
- 24:37Speaker 4: you're out there talking shit. I go, Andy, you're airing
- 24:42Speaker 4: shit about me? Do you think in any world that
- 24:45Speaker 4: I'm going to keep my mouth shut? And he's like, hmm, no, taken.
- 24:50Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes the best housewives are the worst ex housewives.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah, well that makes sense for sure.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And I always told Alex, I'm like, if you ever
- 24:59Speaker 4: fire me, I'm just going I'm gone. You'll never hear
- 25:01Speaker 4: from me again. Yeah, how that worked out?
- 25:03Speaker 5: Well?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Yeah, right and off in that sense.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Then it took one phone call from me, Hey, Tam
- 25:09Speaker 2: want to make spect for money?
- 25:10Speaker 5: And yeah, to Jason a pot about the show my nightmare.
- 25:15Speaker 5: In a Parahol universe, we should have worked it out
- 25:17Speaker 5: and none of us would be here.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 2: We just watched season one of the OC and we're
- 25:30Speaker 2: currently watching season one of Beverly Hills. An eternity ego,
- 25:36Speaker 2: I I mean one, even just the production value and
- 25:39Speaker 2: what like it, or the fact that at the reunion
- 25:42Speaker 2: they're just they're pretty.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Much wearing what I'm wearing, like even more casual.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Oh, s let's talk about OC I mean it was
- 25:49Speaker 4: even more so. Yeah, you watch it and it looks
- 25:52Speaker 4: like it was from thirty years ago.
- 25:53Speaker 5: It does. Yeah, it's time rainy.
- 25:56Speaker 4: The clothes they're wearing, there's zero glam, there's I mean,
- 26:00Speaker 4: but I'm surprised it went forward.
- 26:03Speaker 2: But I'm saying, oh, the show is so tough, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 2: watching you know, Housewives is so toxic. I'm like, if
- 26:08Speaker 2: you go back and watch the beginning, there was way
- 26:11Speaker 2: more difficult things being discussed on Orange County and Beverly.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Hills than now.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I mean now, I mean whether Sutton goes on you know,
- 26:20Speaker 2: two or three days versus what happened with Russell or
- 26:24Speaker 2: what happened.
- 26:25Speaker 5: I think that where I have nostalgia for the old
- 26:27Speaker 5: days is that a lot of it was about what
- 26:30Speaker 5: was going on in everybody's lives. And I think the
- 26:32Speaker 5: hard thing now and the thing that we try to
- 26:35Speaker 5: steer away from but you know, still kind of ends
- 26:38Speaker 5: up popping up, is that a lot of it is
- 26:40Speaker 5: about the dynamics between there and there's a lot of
- 26:43Speaker 5: gotcha stuff, right, So there's a lot of knowing something
- 26:46Speaker 5: about someone and then that becomes an issue where it
- 26:49Speaker 5: isn't to me in its pure form. It's about everyone's
- 26:53Speaker 5: individual spheres and their lives and then how the group
- 26:56Speaker 5: comes together. Right, And I think it's changed. I think
- 26:58Speaker 5: it's much more of a contact export now than it was,
- 27:01Speaker 5: especially the early days of OC, right. And I mean
- 27:05Speaker 5: in the first season of OC, the women barely got together.
- 27:08Speaker 4: It was a big deal, you know, No, they got
- 27:10Speaker 4: together with other friends, were cast members. I feel like
- 27:15Speaker 4: there was no arguing, no fighting until season three.
- 27:19Speaker 5: That's weird, that's what happened.
- 27:21Speaker 4: I don't know, and I don't even know what gave
- 27:24Speaker 4: me the balls to go on to a show, Like
- 27:27Speaker 4: I've never had any experience in TV. I was just,
- 27:29Speaker 4: you know, pretty much a stay at home mom that
- 27:30Speaker 4: did real estate and part time with a very controlling husband.
- 27:34Speaker 4: For me, I mean, I've always had a mouth, but
- 27:36Speaker 4: to just get in there and like, did you go
- 27:38Speaker 4: to bass Lake and the arguing and all that, I'm like,
- 27:41Speaker 4: that's very ballsy back then.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Yeah. No, you took to it right away.
- 27:45Speaker 3: You took to it.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Do you think that there's ever any because we were
- 27:50Speaker 2: just talking about before we even started, how Tamra will
- 27:52Speaker 2: let things go. Do you think there's any former OC person,
- 27:56Speaker 2: she will never be able to let it go away.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Well, obviously, I think the most deep seated issues are
- 28:03Speaker 5: Tamar and Gretchens, So I think that would be the
- 28:05Speaker 5: one that would be the toughest. Otherwise, I don't I
- 28:07Speaker 5: think you could probably at some point bury the hatchet
- 28:09Speaker 5: with everyone else.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I have. I buried the hatchet with
- 28:12Speaker 4: Alexis Bilino at Pravo Con and we talked the Gretchens.
- 28:16Speaker 4: That's too deep. Like, you know, once you start calling
- 28:19Speaker 4: reaching out to my children, you're dead to me.
- 28:22Speaker 5: I bet you that you guys could at some point
- 28:26Speaker 5: the line. But maybe next season.
- 28:30Speaker 4: You want to start that rumor now.
- 28:35Speaker 2: When she has a center orange and you're on the
- 28:37Speaker 2: side where yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 5: I want this to be clickbait.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Well it's going to be clickbait now, Thank you so much.
- 28:45Speaker 5: I love your podcast.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Now me not your Alex Alex so he always knows
- 28:53Speaker 4: what to say to make me happy.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Well, he's probably not going to make me happy right now,
- 28:57Speaker 2: but I have to act it.
- 28:58Speaker 3: It's on the rundown. Okay, why did I get fired?
- 29:02Speaker 4: Oh shit?
- 29:03Speaker 5: Oh god, that's tough. I think that, I mean. And also,
- 29:09Speaker 5: by the way, like your like eyes are.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we're also we're also friends who going to lunch
- 29:16Speaker 3: at for this, so.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I was like, I'm thinking about my lunch.
- 29:20Speaker 4: Just be honest, Alex. We just want your honest and
- 29:23Speaker 4: just want you to.
- 29:24Speaker 2: We want just be authentic, authentic self and to answer
- 29:27Speaker 2: in a way that you would in real life.
- 29:30Speaker 5: I think that, uh, oh god, how would I what
- 29:33Speaker 5: would say? I think a couple of things. I think
- 29:36Speaker 5: that you well, no, I think I think that in yours,
- 29:39Speaker 5: I think there was strong audience reaction to you. So
- 29:42Speaker 5: I do think that was part of it, not gonna
- 29:44Speaker 5: deny that. And I also think that you were self conscious.
- 29:50Speaker 4: She was, she's very in her head.
- 29:52Speaker 5: That's right where I felt. That was obviously that was
- 29:54Speaker 5: here where you're pregnant whatever. And I will also say this,
- 29:57Speaker 5: the production always how you're back. I was a big
- 30:01Speaker 5: fan of yours because you would say things that other
- 30:03Speaker 5: people were thinking and wouldn't say, And so I think
- 30:06Speaker 5: there was that. But I think that I think it
- 30:09Speaker 5: felt like then on that show you weren't comfortable in
- 30:12Speaker 5: your own skin. I think that was the issue.
- 30:14Speaker 2: And I think and not too I think if we
- 30:17Speaker 2: would have actually dived into.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Why I'm not comfortable in my own skin and those
- 30:23Speaker 3: bigger issues. That's those are the things.
- 30:25Speaker 5: That's like breaking the eighth wall though, No, but that's
- 30:27Speaker 5: what I want to know.
- 30:29Speaker 3: That not about me, I'm not.
- 30:30Speaker 4: That's a that's a whole that's a whole nother show.
- 30:32Speaker 3: But I think when we start to see the breakdown
- 30:35Speaker 3: of marriages or relationships or friendships, I don't want to
- 30:39Speaker 3: just read it. I want to feel it.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Like that's why I think we are seeing a different
- 30:43Speaker 2: side of Erica, Like because finally all that shit happens,
- 30:47Speaker 2: we got to see a different side of her.
- 30:49Speaker 5: Well. I think that's a really good point. And I
- 30:51Speaker 5: think because that goes to what we were saying before
- 30:53Speaker 5: about also investing in the groups on the show, because
- 30:58Speaker 5: I think it's life changing to do the show, and
- 31:01Speaker 5: I think people do get better at it. I think
- 31:03Speaker 5: they grow into it. Other than I mean, sure, there's
- 31:05Speaker 5: a million counterpoints of people who are open and honest
- 31:07Speaker 5: at first and then buy into all the audience bullshit
- 31:09Speaker 5: and don't give a real version.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, so that happens, right, because there's the
- 31:13Speaker 5: scientific principle of that you change the thing you're studying
- 31:16Speaker 5: by studying it. Yeah, that can happen, but I think otherwise,
- 31:19Speaker 5: especially once you have a real group, I think then
- 31:22Speaker 5: you know, you want to take advantage of that, the
- 31:25Speaker 5: fact that people grow close together and and you know,
- 31:29Speaker 5: so it's say you have those real dynamics and you
- 31:31Speaker 5: want to examine someone's life and you have more of
- 31:34Speaker 5: a chance to do that over a period of time.
- 31:36Speaker 2: And how often do you think housewives that you currently
- 31:40Speaker 2: work with really pander to Twitter or what the audience
- 31:45Speaker 2: is say?
- 31:45Speaker 5: I would love to say not at all, but I
- 31:47Speaker 5: think that, you know, it's the constant challenge of the
- 31:50Speaker 5: show is to eliminate all of that noise. And the
- 31:53Speaker 5: early seasons of Orange County did not have any of that.
- 31:56Speaker 5: There wasn't that. We had MySpace, Yeah that's.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, my Space and Facebook that was it.
- 32:03Speaker 5: And the Bravo blogs you remember those. Oh those were horrible,
- 32:06Speaker 5: horrible time but with badness, you know that Brava had
- 32:08Speaker 5: to turn off and so so yeah, I mean that's
- 32:11Speaker 5: the biggest thing that we try to get people to
- 32:12Speaker 5: do is not to take a uh, you know, the
- 32:15Speaker 5: temperature on what's going on on social media and then
- 32:18Speaker 5: calibrate what they do based on that, because that doesn't
- 32:21Speaker 5: read well. And also the audience can be really fickle, right,
- 32:24Speaker 5: I mean, so they can say one thing to you
- 32:26Speaker 5: and then once you buy into it, then they resent
- 32:28Speaker 5: you for doing what you thought they wanted you to do.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Well, what We're fickle from week to week watching all
- 32:33Speaker 2: the different shows. Like one week I'll be like, oh,
- 32:35Speaker 2: I can't stand her, and then the next week I'm.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Like, oh, we love her. She's our new favorite housewife
- 32:40Speaker 3: to watch.
- 32:40Speaker 4: So, well, you're only as good as this week's episode.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Well if my dad, it was a script writer, said
- 32:46Speaker 5: to me reality TV is sports for women, And I
- 32:48Speaker 5: think that's true. You have rooting.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Interests and you get I didn't know that about your dad.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he wrote for a bunch of shows.
- 32:55Speaker 4: So you come from a family in the ice cream
- 32:58Speaker 4: and writers, ice cream writers.
- 33:00Speaker 5: That's right? A yes, a Jamokah Allman. Script.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Oh are you a fan of bringing back past housewives?
- 33:11Speaker 4: I am recycling, recycling the ladies.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Well, I am to a point. I think that it
- 33:16Speaker 5: can be lazy, and so I also think that I
- 33:19Speaker 5: think shows have to progress, and I think sometimes they
- 33:22Speaker 5: can with past customers, and I think been taking you
- 33:25Speaker 5: for example, where you still had all those relationships within
- 33:28Speaker 5: the group and beyond the fact that you know, you're
- 33:31Speaker 5: iconic to that franchise. So that made sense to me.
- 33:34Speaker 5: But I think sometimes we can reach back where we
- 33:36Speaker 5: should be looking forward.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 33:39Speaker 2: And then what about once somebody does something to production
- 33:45Speaker 2: or to whatever and kind of crosses that line, how
- 33:48Speaker 2: do you then get to that place of going, Okay,
- 33:50Speaker 2: I want we're going to forgive that, or we will
- 33:52Speaker 2: bring this person back. Because there has been housewives.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Throughout that really have you think this pause.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Is actually forever, Like there are certain and then all
- 34:01Speaker 2: of a sudden they pop back in.
- 34:03Speaker 5: Well, there are very few red lines, and whenever we,
- 34:07Speaker 5: you know, create them, then we don't always hold them.
- 34:11Speaker 5: So it's like, if this person does this, if this
- 34:12Speaker 5: person treated production a certain way, you can move on.
- 34:16Speaker 5: You can get over it. And it's just like you know, Tam,
- 34:19Speaker 5: I'm sure your feelings about never coming back right at first,
- 34:22Speaker 5: I'm never going to do it, and and then you
- 34:23Speaker 5: get over it right and life goes on.
- 34:25Speaker 4: It's like childbirth. So if after a while you forget
- 34:30Speaker 4: about it and.
- 34:32Speaker 3: You decide to have another case, you decide to do
- 34:33Speaker 3: it again.
- 34:34Speaker 5: This, Yeah, so, but I but I think that's but
- 34:39Speaker 5: I think it's really circumstantial. I think then there are
- 34:41Speaker 5: other things that aren't forgivable, and there are things you know,
- 34:43Speaker 5: we're really just ultimately not on the same team, or
- 34:46Speaker 5: it's someone that we can't trust. Then you you know
- 34:48Speaker 5: you can't bring them back. You shouldn't bring them back.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, if they always had fake storylines and things
- 34:55Speaker 4: like that, like they borrowed a Rolls Royce and said
- 35:00Speaker 4: it was a birthday.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Present, I feel like she might be alluding to someone.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I have no idea what she's talking about.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Let's switch gears to vander Pump rules.
- 35:19Speaker 5: Oh, let's do it.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Yes, where were you at the moment when you found
- 35:24Speaker 4: out about Sandabal scandal? All I should say.
- 35:27Speaker 5: I had a launch the whole like timeline of events
- 35:31Speaker 5: is that Arianna had texted our talent producer the whole thing,
- 35:37Speaker 5: so basically screenshots about what happened. So basically so it
- 35:42Speaker 5: because so you don't get to see the video, never
- 35:45Speaker 5: have never seen that, do not even know anything about that.
- 35:50Speaker 5: And it's great to be able to say that. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 5: but it's but so she texted him on it was
- 35:56Speaker 5: on a Thursday because she had just you know, sort
- 35:59Speaker 5: of found Santaval's phone or it had fallen out of
- 36:02Speaker 5: his pocket. On that Wednesday night late I found if
- 36:05Speaker 5: there's a talent producer was trying to confirm a shoe
- 36:08Speaker 5: at their house. She's like, well, let me tell you.
- 36:11Speaker 5: Here's where we are. Here's what happened. And then talent
- 36:14Speaker 5: producer called the show runner, and showrunner called me because.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Why did they say it was like done filming.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Because we were already done with production.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Okay, so it was just like a pickup or something.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Well, yeah, we were. We were completely so, I mean
- 36:27Speaker 5: we had wrapped and we were we had three weeks
- 36:30Speaker 5: until the reunion. I mean we were. We were, And
- 36:32Speaker 5: that's where we picked up cameras right away and we
- 36:34Speaker 5: found out because our big point to the network was, look,
- 36:38Speaker 5: this isn't just something we should talk about at the reunion.
- 36:40Speaker 5: This is really gonna, you know, completely shatter all these relationships, right,
- 36:43Speaker 5: so we need to pick up the cameras.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Did you have any idea when you were kind of
- 36:47Speaker 3: watching back this season prior like now watching in hindsight,
- 36:51Speaker 3: they were like, oh my gosh, how did we miss this?
- 36:54Speaker 5: Well, I mean, we knew there were a million rumors
- 36:56Speaker 5: about them over time, and even on that season. The
- 36:59Speaker 5: reason that nobody believed us but that we didn't do
- 37:01Speaker 5: any we didn't know or we didn't but we didn't
- 37:03Speaker 5: have to do any re editing. And and you know,
- 37:05Speaker 5: like seven episodes you know, were locked at that point.
- 37:09Speaker 5: Was this had come up as a rumor, right, and
- 37:12Speaker 5: so there was a question are they in an open
- 37:14Speaker 5: relationship or you know, what is going on between the
- 37:17Speaker 5: two of those? So that was all there. I just
- 37:18Speaker 5: didn't believe it, right, Yeah.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I mean in your world, you probably hear rumors all
- 37:22Speaker 4: the time. Right now, there were there was a rumors
- 37:26Speaker 4: of rumors that Band of Properules was getting ready to
- 37:30Speaker 4: be canceled.
- 37:31Speaker 5: That isn't true. So I have so to clarify the
- 37:33Speaker 5: record on that. We had a really tough season nine
- 37:38Speaker 5: of that because we were really impacted by two things.
- 37:40Speaker 5: I mean, one is there was a cash shake up, right,
- 37:42Speaker 5: and so there were a bunch of mainstays that were
- 37:44Speaker 5: no longer part of that group. And then COVID really
- 37:48Speaker 5: hurt that show because it was a show about people
- 37:49Speaker 5: who were up and out all the time. Yeah, no,
- 37:52Speaker 5: I was and it really was, and I was a
- 37:54Speaker 5: tough season, that was a labor but once we had
- 37:57Speaker 5: to pick up for season ten and we got into it,
- 37:59Speaker 5: that was a very wrong season regardless, and people, you know,
- 38:02Speaker 5: thought that was sort of a renaissance season and the
- 38:04Speaker 5: ratings were good. Now Scandabal, you know, completely elevated that
- 38:09Speaker 5: into a different stratosphere. But but the show was, you know,
- 38:14Speaker 5: in pretty good health.
- 38:15Speaker 2: And then what do you think that because clearly there's
- 38:19Speaker 2: been I don't know sixteen podcasts that Bethany did with
- 38:22Speaker 2: Raquel Rachel about this, and you know, she she kind
- 38:27Speaker 2: of contradicts herself back in just a few times, just
- 38:30Speaker 2: a few thousand times. It's like, I would never want
- 38:32Speaker 2: to do it, but it's because I wasn't paid with
- 38:33Speaker 2: this person was paid.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Like, do you think there would have been like do.
- 38:38Speaker 5: You think she should have come back? I do? I do.
- 38:40Speaker 5: I think that I think in large part of her
- 38:42Speaker 5: wanted to. We had numerous conversations about it. I think
- 38:46Speaker 5: she was really conflicted. I think she had a really
- 38:48Speaker 5: good offer in front of her, and I think that
- 38:51Speaker 5: that might have been a good place for her to
- 38:54Speaker 5: be heard. And I think that, you know, look, I
- 38:58Speaker 5: think we always treated her with respect and we would
- 39:00Speaker 5: have continued to do so, and we wanted what was
- 39:03Speaker 5: best for her.
- 39:04Speaker 2: And one of the producers there was we just saw
- 39:06Speaker 2: it said like we always liked working with her.
- 39:08Speaker 3: She was super nice.
- 39:09Speaker 2: I mean, who knows it's on like I forget somebody
- 39:13Speaker 2: named Shanna Gena Ghanna.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I know. I mean, I mean we had
- 39:17Speaker 5: a good relationship with her. I mean, I so, you know,
- 39:19Speaker 5: until all of us happened, and it wasn't that that
- 39:22Speaker 5: relationship was even particularly strained, but there were a lot
- 39:24Speaker 5: of people that were speaking on her behalf right, and
- 39:26Speaker 5: I think she's someone who can be influenced, and I
- 39:28Speaker 5: think that that's what happened. And I thought, you know, look,
- 39:32Speaker 5: if I think about the best of the interview, exactly
- 39:34Speaker 5: what you would think that I do. I think that
- 39:36Speaker 5: there is I'm all in favor of Rachel speaking out.
- 39:39Speaker 5: I think she's a speaker piece. I think that there
- 39:41Speaker 5: were all, you know, grave and gross and accuracies there,
- 39:46Speaker 5: and it.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Was very self serving to one person and not the other.
- 39:49Speaker 5: I and I, you know, so I had a hard
- 39:50Speaker 5: time with that, and I actually I couldn't watch the
- 39:53Speaker 5: whole thing, but I mean, I, you know, certainly know
- 39:55Speaker 5: all about it.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I listened to it was very frustrating. I
- 40:00Speaker 4: have to believe that you guys talk about her, not you,
- 40:04Speaker 4: but the show, the cast talks about her a lot.
- 40:07Speaker 5: Well season we're I mean we certainly, I would say,
- 40:10Speaker 5: it isn't a focal point in the sense that we
- 40:12Speaker 5: really try to move on from the people who aren't there,
- 40:14Speaker 5: and there's plenty for us to cover, but we have
- 40:16Speaker 5: to acknowledge, you know, that she's not there. And also
- 40:20Speaker 5: that group was reading the same things that everyone else
- 40:24Speaker 5: was about her, you know, in the media, and whether
- 40:26Speaker 5: she would come back in all of that stuff. But
- 40:29Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is I just think that
- 40:31Speaker 5: it's not so much what everyone else says about her,
- 40:33Speaker 5: and I think they actually show a lot of compassion
- 40:36Speaker 5: toward her, because I think their feelings about her at
- 40:39Speaker 5: the reunion were one thing, and they just needed time,
- 40:42Speaker 5: you know, And I think that they would have welcomed
- 40:43Speaker 5: her back in the way that they would have not everyone,
- 40:46Speaker 5: but I think that, you know, they would have tried
- 40:48Speaker 5: to move forward. And I think that she did herself
- 40:51Speaker 5: a disserface and that's her decision to make But from
- 40:54Speaker 5: my point of view, I think it would have served
- 40:57Speaker 5: it well to come back.
- 40:57Speaker 2: And what about the extent, like the extent of all
- 41:01Speaker 2: the hate coming towards Sandoval, like ye at this point still,
- 41:05Speaker 2: I mean.
- 41:05Speaker 4: I was I was going to say, like he was
- 41:07Speaker 4: booed at Bravo con Laala stuck up from and Andy
- 41:12Speaker 4: Cohen also said like how long are you going to
- 41:14Speaker 4: do this?
- 41:14Speaker 3: Guys?
- 41:14Speaker 5: Man? Like well, And I think one of the things
- 41:17Speaker 5: that I don't understand is there seems to be this
- 41:20Speaker 5: notion and there was a question directed to us at
- 41:22Speaker 5: the producer's panel about him benefiting from this, like sort
- 41:26Speaker 5: of don't you think that Rachel was the victim from this?
- 41:28Speaker 5: And don't you think that he's cashed out and has
- 41:31Speaker 5: benefited and everyone taking advantage of Like how so how
- 41:34Speaker 5: do you think like, you know, I think that he
- 41:36Speaker 5: did something that he shouldn't have done, you know, so
- 41:40Speaker 5: clearly everyone can agree on that. But I also think
- 41:43Speaker 5: that he has had a come up, and you know
- 41:46Speaker 5: that is certainly commensurate with that, right, And I think
- 41:48Speaker 5: is is I think like we all know the story
- 41:51Speaker 5: at this point, so I just don't know what more
- 41:53Speaker 5: there is to say and you.
- 41:55Speaker 2: And also I know this is not a Bravo show,
- 41:57Speaker 2: but I watched Special Forces. I've been watching that and
- 42:01Speaker 2: you can see a broken man coming in like wanting
- 42:04Speaker 2: to get his ass kicks, like you can. You can
- 42:07Speaker 2: feel aside to him where I'm like, Okay, listen.
- 42:09Speaker 5: He said he's a real person, And I think that's
- 42:11Speaker 5: that's the hardest thing I think in making these shows
- 42:14Speaker 5: is and you know, certainly it's something we wrestle with
- 42:17Speaker 5: his producers where I think the audience invests because these
- 42:22Speaker 5: are real people. But then I almost think because we
- 42:24Speaker 5: were saying before using you know, sorting the sporting analogy,
- 42:27Speaker 5: then I think you can dehumanize people a little bit.
- 42:29Speaker 5: And I think that's really tough. And I think that
- 42:31Speaker 5: no matter how strong you are, no matter how much
- 42:33Speaker 5: you tell yourself that it isn't real and these people
- 42:36Speaker 5: don't know you, it's very hard not to take that in.
- 42:39Speaker 5: And I think if you're talk standible and everywhere you
- 42:41Speaker 5: go you're that guy, I think that's really hard on anyone.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Especially when why am I blanking on his name is
- 42:48Speaker 2: now getting to be this best guy human ever?
- 42:51Speaker 5: Raquel's X what oh James.
- 42:53Speaker 4: James James, I mean it's confusing, confusing.
- 42:59Speaker 5: But that goes to the fickleness too, right.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, like we all forget so that I know
- 43:05Speaker 2: that's right, we all forget.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Well, we see the hate towards Tom kind of change
- 43:11Speaker 4: or turn a corner.
- 43:13Speaker 5: Next season, the group shifts and so there are you know,
- 43:18Speaker 5: some unlikely friendships emerge, and there's real conversations about all
- 43:22Speaker 5: of this, and it's very raw and so I think
- 43:29Speaker 5: you said, I mean, I'm utterly fascinated by it. We
- 43:33Speaker 5: do break the fourth wall a bunch to acknowledge the
- 43:36Speaker 5: situation that we're in, and we have to acknowledge that
- 43:40Speaker 5: the real world is and and kind of you know,
- 43:43Speaker 5: standom is a part and large of the fact that
- 43:45Speaker 5: Tom and Arianna live in the same house together, but
- 43:47Speaker 5: they have very different lives, and so we have to
- 43:51Speaker 5: acknowledge the real world, you know, to be able to
- 43:53Speaker 5: fully delve into that.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Yeah. I just think the amount of hate he's getting
- 43:59Speaker 4: is just so nasty. It is He's a human being.
- 44:02Speaker 4: People like he did something wrong, and I feel like
- 44:06Speaker 4: he's handling.
- 44:06Speaker 5: It well, he's tougher than I am, He strong I am,
- 44:10Speaker 5: that's for sure.
- 44:10Speaker 2: He for sure is, and then kind of because we
- 44:14Speaker 2: know we're running out of time, what do we want
- 44:18Speaker 2: to ask him?
- 44:18Speaker 3: What should be?
- 44:18Speaker 5: Guys?
- 44:19Speaker 3: What should be our final thing that we dig into
- 44:22Speaker 3: out now?
- 44:23Speaker 4: And bravos, Hot Mike, are you going to be interviewing
- 44:26Speaker 4: ex housewives, current housewives, producers of the Housewives. Who are
- 44:31Speaker 4: you going to have as guests?
- 44:32Speaker 5: So all of those so current cast, former cast, producers,
- 44:37Speaker 5: network executives, anyone who contributes to making the shows. And
- 44:42Speaker 5: then also celebrity super fans, you know, anyone who has
- 44:46Speaker 5: some sort of insight into this world, this bubble that
- 44:50Speaker 5: we're in. I also want to hear from the audience
- 44:52Speaker 5: what they want us to talk about, right, and so
- 44:55Speaker 5: what they want demystified, happy to talk about all of it.
- 45:00Speaker 5: And really, like I said, I mean, it got to
- 45:02Speaker 5: the point where as much as we have tried not to,
- 45:05Speaker 5: is production be the story? Clearly we are hard to
- 45:08Speaker 5: some extent the story, and people want to know how
- 45:10Speaker 5: the shows are really made. And so you felt like
- 45:13Speaker 5: it was time to open up the kimono so to speak.
- 45:17Speaker 5: Why does that sound disgusting?
- 45:18Speaker 2: It sounds it sounds sounds dirty, It sounds like a lot,
- 45:21Speaker 2: But I think Also, something that is interesting is within
- 45:25Speaker 2: every group of women on every franchise, there's multiple producers
- 45:30Speaker 2: like in the mix, and there are ones that different
- 45:33Speaker 2: women connect with. Yes, so then they have these trust
- 45:36Speaker 2: systems with certain people. And I think even if you guys,
- 45:40Speaker 2: digging into that and talking to different producers within each
- 45:43Speaker 2: show is so cool too, because some you can see
- 45:46Speaker 2: the relationship between the person that you're talking to sometimes
- 45:49Speaker 2: and you're like, Okay, she hates him, she's actually mad
- 45:53Speaker 2: at him, not the woman that she's actually talking to.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Like we've had moments like that.
- 45:58Speaker 4: Do you have a dream gust Andy Cohen or.
- 46:02Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I mean it definitely. You know he'll do
- 46:05Speaker 5: it and rhymes.
- 46:07Speaker 2: With Eddie Mellencamp smelling camp rhymes with schmeddy shmelling camp.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been dying. It's like been sliding into my dms.
- 46:16Speaker 3: I'm like, enough already, I told you I'm not doing it.
- 46:19Speaker 3: I told you too, busy problem, Yeah did busy.
- 46:25Speaker 5: I think the fun thing for me will be to
- 46:28Speaker 5: give voice to people who have a lot to say
- 46:31Speaker 5: that you otherwise might not hear from. So I think
- 46:32Speaker 5: it's the you know, showrunners and post EPs and those
- 46:37Speaker 5: kinds of people who I think can get into the
- 46:39Speaker 5: nitty gritty of the process in a way that people
- 46:41Speaker 5: want to know. That will, you know, hopefully debunk conspiracy
- 46:45Speaker 5: theories on Reddit.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Yeah, oh yeah, well there's no better person to do
