- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning, Mafia. It's Thursday, October 15th. This is the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Morning Charge, your daily 10-minute or less Buffalo Bills news hit.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm Aaron Quinn, here with Colin Ritchie, bringing you everything
- 0:18Speaker 1: you need to know before you start your day. Let's
- 0:21Speaker 1: get right into it. Let's turn the page from Monday
- 0:25Speaker 1: night and look ahead to Week 6, because the first
- 0:27Speaker 1: injury report of the week came out for Sunday's matchup
- 0:29Speaker 1: against the Las Vegas Raiders. Starting with the Raiders, tight
- 0:34Speaker 1: end Brock Bowers was limited on Wednesday with a knee injury.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway and wide receiver Jalen Naylor were
- 0:41Speaker 1: both with concussions and did not participate. Defensive tackle Fulorunchu
- 0:46Speaker 1: Fatukasi and guard Trey Zun were also limited participants. Now,
- 0:51Speaker 1: flipping over to the Bills side. Keep in mind, they
- 0:54Speaker 1: had a Monday night game, so this is their first
- 0:55Speaker 1: walkthrough of the week. DJ Moore and Ed Oliver were
- 0:58Speaker 1: both listed as did not participate. Four players were listed
- 1:02Speaker 1: as questionable. D. Alford with an ankle, Spencer Brown with
- 1:05Speaker 1: a back, Ty Johnson with a hamstring, Joshua Palmer with
- 1:09Speaker 1: a shoulder, and TJ Sanders with a shoulder. Even though
- 1:14Speaker 1: it's a condensed week, Joe Brady still made time to
- 1:16Speaker 1: meet with the media for his normal Wednesday press conference.
- 1:20Speaker 1: On the high volume of penalties to start the year,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Brady agreed that they need to be more disciplined, saying,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we need to practice our fundamentals and technique needs to improve.
- 1:29Speaker 1: On what to do with James Cook and the fumbling problem,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Brady stated strongly that he doesn't want James Cook running
- 1:35Speaker 1: any more timid, stating that he's running as well as
- 1:38Speaker 1: anyone in the NFL, but acknowledged they are putting the
- 1:40Speaker 1: ball on the ground. He doesn't want Cook to play scared.
- 1:43Speaker 1: He needs to be confident and do a better job
- 1:44Speaker 1: of holding onto the ball. We've addressed it, and he's
- 1:47Speaker 1: cleaning it up, said Coach Brady. On staying out West,
- 1:51Speaker 1: Brady explained that returning late from Monday night game put
- 1:54Speaker 1: massive stress on player recovery. Staying out west allowed them
- 1:57Speaker 1: to maintain a normal recovery and practice schedule, with major
- 2:00Speaker 1: bonus of a training camp-style team bonding week built in.
- 2:04Speaker 1: He praised the facilities at UC Irvine for giving them
- 2:07Speaker 1: everything they needed for a normal prep week. On Pete
- 2:11Speaker 1: Carmichael being down on the field on Sunday, Brady brushed
- 2:14Speaker 1: this off, explaining that it had more to do with
- 2:16Speaker 1: the limited space and the visiting coach's booth in LA
- 2:19Speaker 1: than any tactical shift in how they were going to
- 2:21Speaker 1: call the offense. Since Carmichael can easily call the game
- 2:24Speaker 1: from either spot, it wasn't a big deal. On rookie
- 2:27Speaker 1: head coach Clint Kubiak's success, Brady noted that you can
- 2:30Speaker 1: see Kubiak's impact instantly on the tape, praising the way
- 2:33Speaker 1: his unit plays entirely to his personality and the identity
- 2:37Speaker 1: that he wants them to play with. On facing Max Crosby,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Brady chuckled and called him, quote, literally relentless. He raved
- 2:45Speaker 1: about Crosby's motor and how he totally wrecks game plans
- 2:48Speaker 1: regardless of what you try to do. Asked about Spencer
- 2:51Speaker 1: Brown going up against Crosby coming off an injury, Brady
- 2:54Speaker 1: emphasized that it takes an entire week's game plan just
- 2:57Speaker 1: to plan for a player like Crosby and where he's
- 2:59Speaker 1: going to be every snap, adding that they'll keep evaluating
- 3:02Speaker 1: Brown's status as they go throughout the week. On the
- 3:06Speaker 1: idea of elevating Shaq Thomas to stabilize the linebacker room,
- 3:10Speaker 1: Brady immediately went to bat for his current linebacker room, saying, quote,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I have no issue with the way our linebackers are
- 3:16Speaker 1: playing right now. He clarified that Thompson is there for
- 3:19Speaker 1: veteran leadership and depth down the stretch, but he loved
- 3:22Speaker 1: where the room was at. On Greg Rousseau's impact, Brady
- 3:26Speaker 1: smiled and said, I'm never going to get tired of
- 3:28Speaker 1: giving him game balls. He praised how Rousseau was handling
- 3:31Speaker 1: his success week in and week out, and specifically broke
- 3:34Speaker 1: down the play of the blocked kicks, crediting Coach Rogers
- 3:37Speaker 1: and Michael Hoyt alongside Rousseau's length and preparation on the play.
- 3:42Speaker 1: On rookie tight end Brock Bowers, Brady kept it simple. Quote,
- 3:46Speaker 1: there aren't many people in the world that can do
- 3:48Speaker 1: what he does. highlighting how Bowers has a tight ends body,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but the versatility to line up anywhere across the wide
- 3:54Speaker 1: receiver spots.
- 3:56Speaker 2: The Buffalo Bills won another award. Greg Rousseau was named
- 4:00Speaker 2: AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the
- 4:04Speaker 2: first time Rousseau has earned the honor, and the first
- 4:07Speaker 2: time a Bill has since Tyler Bass in Week 9
- 4:11Speaker 2: of 2024. Rousseau's game-saving blocked kick in overtime was the
- 4:16Speaker 2: first field goal blocked in OT since TJ Watt blocked
- 4:20Speaker 2: an attempt by the Browns back in 2018. This award
- 4:25Speaker 2: comes after Rousseau was named AFC Defensive Player of the
- 4:29Speaker 2: Month for his six sacks in the month of September.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Josh Allen spoke to the media yesterday, and he said
- 4:36Speaker 2: on the current mindset of the team... They're watching the
- 4:38Speaker 2: tape and there's a lot of things they can be
- 4:40Speaker 2: better at on both sides of the ball on all
- 4:43Speaker 2: three phases of the ball. On his mechanical issues that
- 4:47Speaker 2: he mentioned earlier last week, he said in the second half,
- 4:51Speaker 2: he just kind of turned his mind off and played football.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And he thinks that's kind of what it's getting back
- 4:56Speaker 2: to for him. On Dalton Kincaid's lack of involvement, he
- 5:00Speaker 2: knows that Joe Brady has taken a lot of ownership
- 5:02Speaker 2: and a lot of fault for that. He said that
- 5:05Speaker 2: a lot of it can be on him too, just
- 5:07Speaker 2: taking some of the underneath stuff early and getting him
- 5:10Speaker 2: involved early, getting him a touch or two here or there.
- 5:13Speaker 2: He said he hasn't done a good job of that
- 5:15Speaker 2: over the past couple of weeks. On James Cook's fumbles,
- 5:19Speaker 2: he said that James is a tremendous football player and
- 5:22Speaker 2: he understands what defenses are going to try to do now. Obviously,
- 5:25Speaker 2: ball security is of the utmost importance and he emphasized
- 5:29Speaker 2: that that includes himself too, not making dumb decisions, not
- 5:33Speaker 2: putting the ball at risk, whether that's in the passing
- 5:35Speaker 2: game or the running game. He said, it takes everybody.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Everybody's got to do their part. Bill's stat check-in. Josh
- 5:44Speaker 2: Allen is currently 10th in the NFL in passing yards
- 5:47Speaker 2: with 1,249. He also leads the league in rushing touchdowns
- 5:52Speaker 2: with eight and total touchdowns with 15. Allen is also
- 5:57Speaker 2: one of just five players to have more rushing touchdowns
- 6:00Speaker 2: than James Cook, who currently sits at five on the year.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Cook is third in rushing yards, currently at 532, which
- 6:09Speaker 2: is just five yards behind Kenneth Walker. Granted, Walker has
- 6:13Speaker 2: only played four games, given the Chiefs had a week
- 6:15Speaker 2: five bye. Cook is also 48 yards behind Bajon Robinson.
- 6:20Speaker 2: After a few quiet weeks in a row, Dalton Kincaid
- 6:23Speaker 2: has dropped to fifth in receiving yards among tight ends,
- 6:27Speaker 2: now trailing Sam Laporta, Brock Bowers, who the Bills will
- 6:30Speaker 2: see on Sunday, Trey McBride, and Isaiah Likely. Ray Davis'
- 6:35Speaker 2: 70-yard kick return to open Monday Night Football was the
- 6:38Speaker 2: fourth longest return on the season. His 32.1 yards per
- 6:43Speaker 2: kick return currently ranks fourth in the NFL. Greg Rousseau
- 6:48Speaker 2: no longer has the lead in sacks, as he remains
- 6:50Speaker 2: at six after being shut out in the last two games.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Houston's Will Anderson Jr. is still the only player, though,
- 6:57Speaker 2: that has passed Groot so far. Anderson sits at seven
- 7:00Speaker 2: and a half sacks. In ESPN's Week 6 Intel report
- 7:05Speaker 2: from NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, Fowler mentioned
- 7:10Speaker 2: that Mike Evans, the wide receiver, was interested in Buffalo
- 7:14Speaker 2: this offseason when he hit free agency. Fowler said, quote,
- 7:18Speaker 2: The Buffalo Bills were high on Evans' list, too, but
- 7:21Speaker 2: they traded for DJ Moore before free agency. It's worth
- 7:25Speaker 2: noting that many teams believed Evans would return to Tampa Bay,
- 7:28Speaker 2: and perhaps Buffalo was one. Evans ultimately signed a deal
- 7:33Speaker 2: with the San Francisco 49ers. Tonight, join Greg Thompson and
- 7:37Speaker 2: Aaron Quinn as they preview the Bills matchup against the
- 7:40Speaker 2: Raiders on the Cover One Buffalo podcast. Tune in live
