[upbeat music] You- Wow... got the things that he-
• 0:16
Tony's jumping around like some [laughs] kind of kangaroo over there. [laughs] Kind of reminds me right off the bat, hey, first of all, [laughs] maybe we should tell you what we're doing here. That thing.
• 0:28
[laughs] This is the, uh, the Full Spectrum Cycling podcast here at, uh, Everyday Cycles studio in River West Milwaukee, Wisconsinville. Hello, hello. We've got, uh, JK, and Tony, and Sven, and,
• 0:41
and the, and the music guy. Yeah. I like that music guy. So the, the kangaroo jumping thing [laughs] reminded me, Dave's sister's looking at a bike and she's- [laughs]...
• 0:49
looking at a Karate Monkey, and she kept saying- Hmm... "What was that thing called again, the angy- angry kangaroo?" [laughs] Yeah, let's go with it. Yeah. Yeah, angry kangaroo, sure.
• 0:58
You can call it whatever you want and just buy it. You can name... When you buy it, you can name it whatever you want. [laughs] Absolutely. Oh, yeah.
• 1:04
Yeah, Dave- Dave's getting her into, uh, in mountain biking, and I think that's a... First of all, there's super deals on them right now. Yeah, and that's an entry level, like, way butter than... Butter. Butter.
• 1:16
Way better than entry level mountain bike for, uh- Hey, butter works out, man... I mean, it's, it's forgiving, as I stare at it. It's, it's forgiving enough on trail riding. I'm Chad Cox. I can remember.
• 1:23
It's gonna be fantastic for her. Fantastic. Everything was butter, man. Butter. Yeah, so there you go. [laughs] So that's, that's something exciting. Yeah. I- Yeah, I saw some of the pictures on the- Webs of Internet?
• 1:38
What? Uh, low, the low... Oh, her riding the low side too. Low side. Yeah. Low side. Yeah, that's what- Yeah, also a cool ride... I, I, I thought, I thought that w- I thought that was going out the door, like, ooh.
• 1:47
Yeah, I don't think she's quite up for single speeding yet. Eh, you never know. Although you could throw a derailer on a low side if you want to. Yeah. Just, I'm just- I'm just saying, hey, I just saw what I saw.
• 1:56
You saw. And, yeah. Well, I tell you, Tony and Dave are both way better- And I'm recording. I'm documenting... at doing the social media thing than I am apparently, so keep doing that. I'll keep doing that.
• 2:06
Put, put all your, put all your crazy things on the interwebs there. Hey. [laughs] And it's only, you know, today's, today's beer, folks, is all the IPA. Because- Sort of like the show beer now.
• 2:19
It, it, you know- Not just the show, but the-... it's, it's a fantastic beer-... the show... and you can drink it all day. Right, or night in- Or night... in this case. It's not quite night yet. It's still light out.
• 2:27
Yeah. 'Cause spring is here even though we had, what, 4.2 inches of snow. I think it was mostly water. On 414, Dave. 414, we got 4.1 inches- And, uh, thank you all for being the avatars 'cause I did not move. I, ugh.
• 2:44
Oh, that was all? Oh, no. You need to go out at all? That was a busy- Oh, man... that was a busy day. It was a busy day. Yeah, there was so much. I had tickets for, like... Yeah.
• 2:52
But- You sent some great pictures, by the way... yes. That's why I felt the avatars were out there. I'm like, "Ah, thank God." Yeah, we, uh- Daikaiju, best show you'll ever see. Guitars on fire.
• 3:03
[laughs] The Daikaiju was pretty, pretty dang good there. Who was, 'cause I'm not gonna... Who was the acoustic guy at, uh, Braman? 'Cause wow, is that man freaking fantastic. Oh, Tommy Held. Tommy Held. Oh. Yeah.
• 3:16
Yeah, he's got several albums out. Oh, man- Yeah... he was really, really good. And he's an IT guy. Really? Yeah. How does that much talent exist in one human being? I don't know. That's- Makes, makes you wonder...
• 3:27
maybe he's not human. He go- he goes between here and, what, Nashville, I think. Maybe. Something. I got his card around here somewhere. [laughs] He really threw down a great set on Sunday. It was like, wow.
• 3:39
He, he asked, he's like, "Oh, can I play one more?" And everyone's like, "You can play 10 more." [laughs] Yeah, and then after, after Tommy was our friend James, his band. They were very good. Very solid. Yeah.
• 3:52
Kind of surprised me. Jesse and the James... Jesse and the James Gang. And doesn't he have another show coming up Friday? Yeah. Which will be after this podcast is released maybe. This'll be on Friday. Or yeah.
• 4:02
So it's today. It's Friday. It's, it's gonna be today. You should check his show today. So get out there. At Up and Under. Why are you listening to us? On- [laughs]... on Brady and- [laughs]
• 4:10
That, that's the east side of Milwaukee over there. It is. It's on the other side of the river, folks. Mm-hmm. The lower east side. Lower. Mm-hmm. [laughs] Um, yeah, so then, yeah, then, and then Daikaiju was...
• 4:23
I didn't realize they'd been around since '99, so. Oh, man, they're insane. Yeah. Yeah. If you guys, if you guys get a chance to see them, go see them. Kabuki. Yes. Very, very cool. Yes, yes, yes, and yes. They attack.
• 4:37
They attack. That's what they do. Yeah, so 414 in the 414. That was a successful day. I think it was a very successful day- Yeah... despite the, uh, pelting snow coming straight out of the north. Mm-hmm.
• 4:51
That's why I stay home. [laughs] My, uh, my, my tenant actually, uh- I was gonna go down to Cooperage and see Platinum Boys, and, uh, and fucking Classic, and Joe Huber, and all that would be awesome, but- My, uh-...
• 5:04
I mean, no... my tenant came home about 10:00 at night and informed me that she was, uh, hit by the snow falling off my solar panels [laughs] Oh, Christ... that melted and came down as, as, you know, in full force.
• 5:16
She was not injured. Thank you, Sarah. Yeah. Good. Yeah. Yeah. Amen. Dang old solar panels. Yeah, those things, they'll kill you. Well, no, uh, ju- just walking around- Aren't they, like, self-cleaning?...
• 5:26
ca- walking around... No, no. Well, that's just it. They clean the snow off of them by falling in mass quantities. Yeah. Yeah, walking around fucking campus. Yep.
• 5:35
They, they come down- Same thing on every so often, it's like [imitates snow falling], it's like, "What the fuck just happened?"
• 5:41
[laughs] Yeah, it, it literally, the first time it happened at my house, it sounded like a shotgun going off, and I went outside to find out, you know, given this is River West, I'm like, "Who's shooting a gun?"
• 5:50
And I happened to be, I'm like- [laughs]... "Wow, that was really loud, and it's the middle of the day." And then I heard it happen again just as I saw the snow sliding off my roof. Right on. Right on. I'm like, "Wow."
• 5:59
Occasionally it hits Sean and Katie's house. Shout out to Sean and Katie, my neighbors. It, uh, hits their house rather hard and I, and they get scared and they call me. With the Taco Palace, what do you call that thing?
• 6:09
[laughs] Sean, if you're listening. Uh-huh. We're gonna get him out on the fat bike this weekend- Which you're not, but yeah... at the FunDuro, aren't you? At the FunDuro in two weekends.
• 6:22
It's a week from Sun- Oh yeah, we're gonna go there anyway this weekend though- It's, uh-... to do a little reconnaissance... this is the last one before that will occur, so- The last episode.
• 6:31
Yes I'm, uh, uh, you know what? I had- It's a way-... no idea there was a brewery across the street that had opened in that building. A brewery?
• 6:38
It's in the- Brew- Yeah, it's in the Legion building right there It's really cool. Also, we've- Well, there, there's a Rascal's there, isn't there? [laughs] There is a, there is a Rascal's there.
• 6:47
[laughs] Am I banned from that one? No, I don't think so. [laughs] Not yet. It's in a, it's in a separate town. [laughs] Just saying. It's still Sunday.
• 6:53
Hey, man, just saying I don't think, uh, The Toad has anything to do with that particular- Just saying. I, you know. He d- no, he doesn't have anything to do with that.
• 7:00
I know Serge's pub, and I'm, I got, I got good people there. Uh, yeah. Well, it, it may be- [laughs] It may be a stop on the ride of some port, or we gotta go do some planning this weekend.
• 7:11
[laughs] That's why we're going up there. We already have some events for this FunDuro thing coming up April 20th in Port Washington, Wisconsin, fat bike extravaganza. But- It'll be a jam...
• 7:20
we're going to go tighten up everything this week, Sunday. Easter Sunday. Yeah, Jes- Jesus is meeting us up there for a ride. [laughs] Jesus rides a fat bike. Jesus- Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam...
• 7:32
would, if he rode a bike, he would ride a fat bike You know what? We should get- Yeah, it's L-... one of the bands playing at the FunDuro to do- It's L-... a song, Jesus Rides a Fat Bike. Jesus- Yeah...
• 7:41
Rides a Harley Davidson. You could just change- Nah... lyrics. Yeah. It'll be, just be Al Jourgensen and, um, dude from Primus. Les Claypool? Bingo. [laughs] Wow, pulled that one out of me. Les Claypool.
• 7:58
And do a collaboration. Could be. Bingo. I think Chris Daisy could probably whip a song up about a fat bike. In fact, I think he has already, actually. You're recording this, right?
• 8:07
I don't know about Jesus on a fat bike, though. [laughs] Oh, yeah, is this thing on? Yeah. Yeah. We already got fat bike- Just wanna make sure... you only need two more words, Jesus- On a... fat bike. On a.
• 8:16
Jesus rode my fat bike. That's one word, right? On a On a fat bike. Jesus built my fat bike. Mainly Jesus- Mm... and my fat bike. So- Very mainly, yeah. There's just minimal splicing on that one. Mm-hmm. Totally.
• 8:31
For- Anyway, FunDuro, April 28th. If you don't go, you're missing out. I agree. There's gonna be demo bikes from Wyatt. There's gonna be demo bikes from Surly. Surly.
• 8:42
I'll probably bring a few extra bikes up, depending on who shows up that has already said they're gonna borrow them or not from- [laughs]... from Schlicks or Chumbas or something. I don't know.
• 8:51
They'll be fat, but- Yeah, those cats from, uh- They... Yeah, you might be bringing that, too? I don't know if I wanna get it all full of sand. Oh, I don't think you wanna get that- I don't want sand on its vajayjay.
• 9:00
Yeah, that, that's a beautiful bike- [laughs]... to get sandy, you know? Well, Sam wants to go up and ride it, though. Well, tell him to buy it. [laughs] He's doing something. I don't know which one yet, but yeah, man.
• 9:14
Yeah, the, the cats from, uh, Wyatt, I ran into them like three years ago out in LA Cross. Yep. And it was like, "Oh, wait. Uh, uh, uh, uh." Did either of you guys get to the big bike expo at the fair park? No.
• 9:30
No, uh, I was gonna go with you, and then you decided to go with your son. And I ended up day drinking with my niece, and it turned into a really bad day. A really good day, but a really bad day.
• 9:40
Oh, yeah, I met your niece the- Jody... right before that. Yep. She's in Spain right now. Shout out to Jody. I'm jealous. Uh, it was, uh, big. There's a lot of bikes there. People buy bikes there, I guess.
• 9:52
I went to see what was going on with the vendors and- And masks... ran into Jason and Amanda from Fat Tire Tour. Oh, nice. Oh, right on Talked a little bit about what they're doing. What's the theme again? Toto.
• 10:05
Wizard of Oz. Wizard of Oz. For Fat Tire Tour Milwaukee. That's, uh, June, I don't know, something-eth, thir- 15th Yeah, we, we talked about that last, uh- Yeah, June-ish... podcast, and it's still- The same day...
• 10:15
a great thing to go see and go and participate in. They're also doing a, a Fat Tire Tour at Green Bay. Be up north of here where Aaron Rodgers calls home, I think. Mm-hmm. Who's that? And some kinda- Who's that?...
• 10:29
soccer player or something. Yeah. Um- Hockey... that, that- Yeah... that's happening. No, they're doing the, they're trying to cultivate the same thing Yeah, they've been doing it for like three or four years I think.
• 10:38
Yeah. And it's, uh- Something to fulfill and trying to grow it It's August 24th. Eh, day after my birthday. It's like, it's like- Not happening... it's like r- yeah, right around, uh, Green Bay. Up.
• 10:49
I mean, I, I, I have family up there, and it's f- uh, uh. You know, speaking of which- I never have a bike out there... uh, speaking of which, we should shout out to Dave Luntz for posting, uh, bikes, beer, and goats.
• 10:59
They are going to release the bring a bike and get a free, uh, uh, ferry ride across the Lake Michigan. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. That's coming up soon, so if anybody wants to do that, you should, uh- What's- Um...
• 11:11
is it 4, is it Earth Day? Is it gonna be 4/20 again? Uh, they haven't said the date. They haven't released it. You have to sign up- It's not really about 420... and then they're gonna email you the week of it. All right.
• 11:20
Has to be a fully functional bike. [laughs] Got one. Got like 20. Trek 8, Trek 830. [laughs] Ooh, perfect. Uh, the boy outgrew it, so- Yep, yep... it's going. So we need to sign up and [laughs]
• 11:34
And take your bike to where they ask, and get yourself a free ticket to take the ferry, which then has to be booked by June 28th, but you can take it until the ferry finishes for the year. In, yeah, October sometime.
• 11:46
So we're thinking first week of August apparently, the weekend after the River West 24, which is gonna mean I'm gonna be rubble, rubber noodle leggy. Bikes, boat, and goat. Yes.
• 11:58
It's anywhere from four to- Why isn't there a beer in there?... one day. I don't know. [laughs] Yeah, why isn't... There is beer there, for sure. Yeah. Anyway. Um, yeah. Now, he, he wasn't at the expo, though.
• 12:13
You should promote that at the expo next year Gary Fisher was. Dave, Dave should, yeah. Oh, yeah, Gary Fisher was there. Well, they were at the expo- Gary...
• 12:17
on Friday night, but you're right, they weren't- Gary and Dave and Jeff and- And Jeff, they were all-... uh, everyone He was trying to get- Donna threw out a, "Why are you with my friend Gary?" Yeah.
• 12:27
[laughs] That's right. [laughs] I'm like, "Knock it off, Meg." She was, uh, she, he, Dave was trying to get him over here to look at all the Teesdales on the wall. Right, right.
• 12:34
Say it's some- something like a museum of Teesdales now. That would, you know- You could buy these Teesdales, though. They're not not for sale Teesdales. Can you?
• 12:43
[laughs] But, uh, yeah, he usually, uh, he usually hangs out over at Polly's there, right across from the Fair Park on the, on the Greenfield Avenue there. Yeah, he's a good character. Nice. He's a certain- Character.
• 12:54
Well, yeah, no, good guy, good character. I mean, just- Character. You betcha. Just talk and yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, you got massive weird facial hair. Hey, I know you. [laughs] Right on. Very distinctive.
• 13:12
We know this. Gotta dig up- I know this... I gotta dig up that video we did of him at, uh, with him at, um, Interbike a few years back, where he says fat bikes are the wave of the future. Mm. Because by cracky-
• 13:24
He was right... he was only five years late to the game. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah, he's a promoter, though. Oth- otherwise I don't think he would've made his own brand as successful as Trek bought it.
• 13:37
I, you know, my daughter rides a Gary Fisher- I have a-... partially because of that... I have a insanely way-too-heavy ramp bike Gary Fisher [laughs] in my basement. Nice. Hey, you know what you could do with that?
• 13:51
I don't know. Donate it. Donate it and get a Faery ride. Faery ride. Faery ride. So I did put out the old, uh, number on the interwebs today- So did I... for once. 717? I- 727... bike. Bike. 2453.
• 14:09
Y'all are welcome to call in. We'll probably try that again and see if it works next time. Yeah. Someone should- [laughs] If you're fucking paying attention- Someone should call in... assholes. I know.
• 14:18
[laughs] People liked it. People liked my post sharing it, and did anyone call in yet? Not yet. You still have 14 minutes. Gomez was like, "Boy, I listen to your show." Thanks, Gomez. Oh, thanks, Gomez. Gomezfatbike.com.
• 14:32
Danger Nome podcast and, uh, still the occasional dose of fat, or what, what's he calling that one now? Anyway, he said, "Oh, I really hope someone calls in."
• 14:42
[laughs] Well- I don't know if that's just to make us feel good or so he doesn't have to listen to us. [coughs] I'm not sure. Excuse me. Where's your cough button? [imitates button buzzing] Cough button. Cough button.
• 14:52
[imitates static] Thanks, thanks, Gomez. Uh, you know what?
• 14:55
We, we were, actually talked on the phone a couple times in the last couple of days about this event coming up, and we're thinking of having a podcast off up there at the old event. Hell yeah.
• 15:03
You have a portable podcasting machine. I think we should. He actually, on my recommendation, bought one of these very same things. He said, "Boy, that sure does make this a lot easier."
• 15:14
[laughs] [laughs] His, yeah, I, you should listen to his podcast, folks, if you don't listen to those. Um, you probably do, 'cause you're getting this at the same place, but check it out. Do it. Dan- Danger Nome.
• 15:27
Danger Nome. Danger, danger, danger, danger, danger. Oh, hey, we're gonna have an employee here besides Tony. That's right, and we're gonna be open every day. At Everyday Cycles. Everyday Cycles. Starting the 29th. Yes.
• 15:43
Summer hours begin 4:29, folks. And, uh, we're, I think we're lucky enough here, really, to get Al, Al Martin to be at one of our wrenches. I think he's gonna be a fine wrench.
• 15:54
He's been at a few shops around town- Good one... and the one he was at recently shut down, and now that the spring is springing, he, he's, he's looking for some place to do some wrenching.
• 16:05
So come out and say hi to Al if he's your buddy. Have him build you some wheels. Oh, yeah. He's building wheels. You betcha. Should be fun to watch him- The cowboy store... you know? He, uh,
• 16:16
he knows his way around a bicycle for sure. Skinny, fat, tall, he can do it all. Dig it. That, that actually rhymed. Wow. Yeah, you were amazed by yourself on that one. He's a poet and he don't even know it.
• 16:30
[laughs] He's a poet. [laughs] So, uh, our friends up, up north there at CAMBA sent a, an email around a little bit ago saying that they had finally shut the trails down from the winter snow,
• 16:42
and by cracky, it was a successful season up there. Nice. Here's, here's a couple of few, a few stats for you folks, just so you know if you get up into northern Wisconsin, you're gonna wanna go check these trails out.
• 16:54
They had 70 miles of groomed trails. Mm. Damn. They battled three feet of snow in February. [laughs] Some very, very cold weather. It gets a lot colder up there than down yuh.
• 17:07
Uh, they had spent 600 hours grooming and put thousands of miles on the equipment, and that was all for you folks to go up and ride them there trails. That's some good trailing riding.
• 17:20
I'll have a link to upcoming events up there. They have stuff going on all year, obviously. There's some big endurance races. There's, of course, the fat... Not the Fat Bike Birkie. That already happened.
• 17:29
You can listen to a, a interview with the winner of the Fat Bike Birkie on one of them danged old other podcasts on- Oh, shit... fatbikes.com. Piggybacking on that one, did you hear the, uh, um, they had a midnight ride
• 17:42
the night before the Boston Marathon? They go out at midnight and then have a pancake breas- Boom... breakfast after? And bicycle, take the whole fucking route? Bingo, bango, bongo. That's awesome.
• 17:56
Don't mind if I do, if I'm in Boston. Yeah, for riding 26 miles. [laughs] Well, it's, it's a heck of a lot better than running 26 miles. Well, yeah. Well, yeah. Yeah, yeah. But I don't know if they stop that much.
• 18:11
[laughs] That would be f- that would be a five-bar run, wouldn't it? Yeah, for sure. Or probably. [laughs] Just- Yeah... I'm putting, I, I'm putting in the hopper, and I can't- Oh... like, nah.
• 18:22
Speaking of runs, I was in here, um- [laughs]... chatting with Greg the other day, and, uh- Chatting?... and I don't normally, uh Talk too much about aluminum bikes, but I took out that CR1, that Roll bicycles makes.
• 18:38
I think everyone should come in here and take that little bad boy for a ride because that is a pretty fantastic bicycle to ride around. It's- Yeah, they're a lot more, uh, a lot more forgiving than I remember- I-...
• 18:51
old aluminum frames being [laughs]... wish- Yes, that is [laughs] like, it's almost steel. Right. It is an incredibly fun bike to ride. It's right there, JK. What? I can't see it.
• 19:00
You, you gotta go f- You're referring something that I can't see Well, neither can these folks, but I'll put a picture of that puppy on the- Yeah. W-... on the old show note stair head. Paint the word picture.
• 19:08
Come on, now. It's, it's- All right. Now I'm gonna chastise Donna because she doesn't know how to spell bike. Jesus. So 717-7- [laughs] Oh, yeah. You- you give out the number... 27 [laughs] 2453. Oh, there you go.
• 19:25
[laughs] I thought this was going somewhere else. [laughs] Oh, you're all revved up today, aren't ya? Hey, bo- speaking of that- Ugh... can you go grab a couple more, uh, brewhas? Yeah. While you got y- your cans off.
• 19:41
My, the cans, they be off. I'm gonna do stereo microphone. Microphone. It's all in mono anyway. Yeah, well, you know. Microphone. JK has left the room. Hey, what, uh...
• 19:57
Oh, you know what I got, you know what I accomplished today besides working in the shop here?
• 20:02
I got three and a half hours into the six hours and 44 minutes of Paris-Roubaix coverage that's [laughs] on the NBC Cycling channel.
• 20:12
That is an interesting race, all those cobbles and beaten up and flat tires and people falling down. Yeah, s- speaking of that, did you see how they're gonna introduce suspension? Top of the hill.
• 20:22
Ro- road bike suspension on these bikes now for the cobble races. They've had front suspension for a long time. Yeah, it's full, it's full control, electronically controlled suspension. Just like a F1 car. Yeah.
• 20:32
Is that right? On, off- Ride a bike... or automatic. Goddammit. Yeah. Lance Armstrong, I think, used a RockShox way back in the old days. Yeah, baby. Everyone get a Lance. Yeah.
• 20:44
[laughs] [laughs] Uh, I don't know. Well- See, Donna's gonna have to listen to this podcast, as I keep telling her to freaking call in, and she's like- Oh, Donna... "Are you live now?" Yes.
• 21:00
Why do you think I would ask you to call now? I don't think she gets how it works. Do you have a bike alter ego name? No, I don't. I'm Tony. [laughs] I'm always fucking Tony.
• 21:15
[upbeat music] Oops. Hey, folks- Ooh, speak of which... I think- Not, not bike related, but music related, what is it, JK? Uh, 30th anniversary of Doolittle from The Pixies. Right on.
• 21:31
Hey, folks, [laughs] somehow, somehow Tony- So listen to the fucking Pixies now... somehow Tony got a caller. Hey, caller. Welcome to the radio program. Who do we- Hey... have on the line?
• 21:40
This is the lovely Donna, Gary Fisher's bestie. [laughs] Hola, Donna. How are you? [laughs] I'm fabulous. Why doesn't Tony have an alter ego? I think Tony's a good enough name for Tony. He can't be Burger.
• 21:57
We've already got a Burger. What's your alter ego bike name? Meg. Don't have one. Meg. That's not the point. [laughs] Very well. Meg. [laughs] Very well. Another thing. Dorothy. Maybe Dorothy. [laughs] Dorothy. Yeah.
• 22:14
[laughs] So how is- Bill would probably say that... how is spring in Mad Town? It is gray and rainy. Snow all gone, or did you not get pelted like we did on Sunday? We did not. Oh. We definitely did not.
• 22:29
In fact, I went out for a awesome urban bike ride in the spring weather yesterday. Shorts, the works. Wow. It was beautiful. But today it's shit, so. [laughs] That'll happen. It's spring. Mm-hmm. It's Wisconsin.
• 22:45
So are you gonna make it- [laughs] Are you gonna make it to the Funduro? I'm gonna tell everyone I am. [laughs] And then I'm gonna forget about it. When is it again? [laughs] Aw, Jesus Christ, Donna.
• 22:55
