- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome in. It's Draft week.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm kind of Annie Stevens, bindsext and John Oser with me.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's Jags Am and the PM.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We're getting ready for prime time because the draft's gonna
- 0:23Speaker 2: kick off tomorrow continues through the weekend.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And while it's a little bit different than.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Years past here in Jacksonville, I think it's a good
- 0:29Speaker 2: thing for this team, especially after what we saw from
- 0:32Speaker 2: them last season on the field. Let's start out with
- 0:34Speaker 2: our big things for you. Number One is going to
- 0:36Speaker 2: be guess who's back because the players.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Are back in the building.
- 0:38Speaker 2: The off season program has begun a little later than
- 0:41Speaker 2: normal because the staff is returning. That's something we haven't
- 0:44Speaker 2: had around here a ton as of late, and Trevor
- 0:46Speaker 2: Lawrence really appreciates that.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'd say the mental part of it too, is not
- 0:51Speaker 3: having to completely relearn a new system. That's a bonus
- 0:56Speaker 3: as well, because you can really fine tune some of
- 0:59Speaker 3: the things and you can get into more of the
- 1:01Speaker 3: details instead of just trying to learn stuff for the
- 1:03Speaker 3: first time. You're a lot further along. So starting today,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I feel like, obviously we're a lot further ahead than
- 1:10Speaker 3: we were last year, and a lot of work to
- 1:12Speaker 3: be done. And you know, we got to build a
- 1:14Speaker 3: bunch of chemistry. We got new guys and there's a
- 1:16Speaker 3: lot of guys to go up to speed. But as
- 1:17Speaker 3: far as I think our core and guys that were here,
- 1:21Speaker 3: the comfort level with the offense, with each other, the chemistry,
- 1:23Speaker 3: all that stuff is a nice carryover. But you still
- 1:26Speaker 3: got to go and like I said, put the work
- 1:28Speaker 3: in this.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Year, Brian, a lot of people back in the building,
- 1:31Speaker 2: and yes it is the same staff, some of the
- 1:33Speaker 2: same players, of course, but you gotta start fresh. Can't
- 1:37Speaker 2: just think you're gonna carry over last year into this year.
- 1:39Speaker 1: They need to begin a.
- 1:40Speaker 4: New you know, Ki, thirty two years of doing this.
- 1:43Speaker 5: What the players say on the day that they returned
- 1:46Speaker 5: for off the field work, or rather out of season work,
- 1:51Speaker 5: has never really changed. Everyone's optimistic. Everyone talks about how
- 1:54Speaker 5: good it was to get away and how good it
- 1:56Speaker 5: is to be back. Here's what I liked about what
- 1:58Speaker 5: I heard from and from Josh Heinz Allen, who both
- 2:01Speaker 5: spoke this week.
- 2:03Speaker 4: It was the tone of voice. Right. Liam Cohen is
- 2:06Speaker 4: a winner.
- 2:07Speaker 5: He has been around winning, He understands what winning takes,
- 2:10Speaker 5: and he's been preaching that to his team since he
- 2:12Speaker 5: got here last year, and to hear them speak, to
- 2:16Speaker 5: hear Josh talk about starting back at the bottom and
- 2:19Speaker 5: no carryover and no complacency. To listen to them was
- 2:24Speaker 5: to hear their coach's voice, which is a really good
- 2:26Speaker 5: sign John, because clearly Liam Cohen understands what he's trying
- 2:29Speaker 5: to build, and now his players sound like him, which
- 2:31Speaker 5: means they probably understand too.
- 2:33Speaker 6: Yeah, last year was great, It doesn't matter. And I
- 2:37Speaker 6: think Liam has focused, from what I've been able to tell,
- 2:42Speaker 6: on making sure players, coaches, everybody in the building realizes,
- 2:47Speaker 6: you know, in the NFL is not about a three
- 2:51Speaker 6: or four year period. You can build three or four
- 2:54Speaker 6: year periods of strength and success, but you have to
- 2:58Speaker 6: do it each year. And I think he has done
- 3:01Speaker 6: a good job of emphasizing, Hey, whatever relationship you had
- 3:05Speaker 6: with players last year, with each other, with coaches, that's fine,
- 3:09Speaker 6: but it has to be rebuilt. It seems to me
- 3:11Speaker 6: like he's trying to make sure that he keeps as
- 3:14Speaker 6: much of that first year energy which we all felt
- 3:17Speaker 6: last year, how it grew, how it was exciting, the
- 3:20Speaker 6: whole way everybody was engaged. I think he's really trying
- 3:23Speaker 6: to make sure that that is felt, and you certainly
- 3:26Speaker 6: felt that from when Trevor and Josh Heinz Allen's talked
- 3:30Speaker 6: on Monday.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Absolutely back in the building.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Good for us to have some football to talk about
- 3:34Speaker 2: and the draft to talk about. But first, our second
- 3:36Speaker 2: big thing is swap meat.
- 3:38Speaker 1: There was a.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Trade between the Atlanta Falcons and the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier
- 3:41Speaker 2: this week. Didn't involve draft picks, but it does send
- 3:44Speaker 2: Mason Smith to Atlanta and brings a different big guy
- 3:47Speaker 2: here Jacksonville.
- 3:49Speaker 7: I have a lot of respect for Masonville. I hope
- 3:50Speaker 7: he has a heck of a career. He did nothing
- 3:53Speaker 7: but what we asked him to do from a work
- 3:56Speaker 7: ethic standpoint, from doing the right things and what we
- 4:00Speaker 7: asked of him, and just we felt like we had
- 4:02Speaker 7: an opportunity to potentially get an ascending player that can
- 4:06Speaker 7: provide a little bit in the rush. It's hard to
- 4:08Speaker 7: find big men that can move like that on the
- 4:11Speaker 7: interior party or defense without giving up in the run game.
- 4:17Speaker 7: It is something we want to continue to be top
- 4:19Speaker 7: notch out which we were in the NFL this past season,
- 4:22Speaker 7: but something we want to look at that Rouke gives
- 4:25Speaker 7: us an opportunity the big man that can move, that
- 4:28Speaker 7: can get in the rush plan as well, and showed
- 4:31Speaker 7: the ability to get to the quarterback a little bit.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Smith shipped out, John, I'll say for you, Ruke, a
- 4:37Speaker 2: row row row, thanks coming into town. And these two
- 4:41Speaker 2: were drafted in the same draft class just two years ago,
- 4:43Speaker 2: but a couple of picks apart, but haven't seen a
- 4:46Speaker 2: ton out of either of them. Seems like maybe swap
- 4:48Speaker 2: places and hope they can kind of find a way
- 4:51Speaker 2: to fit in with their new teams.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Exactly what it is. And you know, I met Ruke.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I hope he'll be okay if I call him Ruke.
- 4:58Speaker 6: But it's clearly two second round picks drafted by regimes
- 5:03Speaker 6: that are no longer with their current organization. So I
- 5:08Speaker 6: think it was a case where the guys weren't quite
- 5:12Speaker 6: going to have the chance to do what they wanted
- 5:16Speaker 6: to do in the NFL at their old spots. Sometimes
- 5:20Speaker 6: Brian teams just want to make a change with a
- 5:23Speaker 6: spot and get guys in a new environment.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I like Mason Smith.
- 5:26Speaker 6: I think he's got a lot of potential.
- 5:29Speaker 4: As Liam said, wishing in the best, but Brian. Sometimes
- 5:32Speaker 4: you just have.
- 5:32Speaker 6: To make a change and figure out if it's going
- 5:35Speaker 6: to work a little better at the new spot.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Well, it's a system now that we know with coach
- 5:41Speaker 5: Camp how he wants to do things, and he obviously
- 5:44Speaker 5: thinks this guy because their numbers when you look at them, tackles, sacks, pressures,
- 5:48Speaker 5: where they were drafted probably with their.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Paycheck says really similar.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Here's what strikes me, Kyle, is that people who know
- 5:56Speaker 5: this draft know that this is not a good draft
- 5:58Speaker 5: for defensive tackle.
- 6:00Speaker 4: So you've got to do.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Something to create a change up front. This trade gets
- 6:05Speaker 5: that One of the things James Gladstone at his press
- 6:07Speaker 5: conference two weeks ago talked about guys, and it's tough
- 6:10Speaker 5: to find those pass rushing tackles because the position requires
- 6:13Speaker 5: you to be stout and able to stay in there
- 6:16Speaker 5: in the inner part.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Of the line and take on the run.
- 6:21Speaker 5: But there's developmental opportunities right there are guys who can
- 6:24Speaker 5: get better as pass rushers over time, and so I
- 6:27Speaker 5: wouldn't be surprised if the Jaguars don't go looking for
- 6:30Speaker 5: those kinds of guys, Guys with two to three year
- 6:32Speaker 5: potential in the system that Campaneeli's putting in place here
- 6:36Speaker 5: they can.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Grow into the role that they want them to play.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Yeah, Kyle, the only thing on this it was upside
- 6:42Speaker 6: for the Jags. I don't think Mason Smith was going
- 6:44Speaker 6: to have a huge role based on what he had
- 6:45Speaker 6: done last year, so look figure out maybe Rooke has
- 6:52Speaker 6: a bigger role. So I'm not sure there was very
- 6:55Speaker 6: much risk at all.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Of the Jags.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure if he was going to make
- 6:58Speaker 2: that final roster. And now with him leave town, there's
- 7:00Speaker 2: only three players from that draft class left on this team,
- 7:03Speaker 2: obviously BTJ cam Little and Jari and Jones, So we'll
- 7:07Speaker 2: see those guys obviously have their place pretty cemented.
- 7:09Speaker 1: At this point.
- 7:10Speaker 2: We'll do our final big thing today, which is Draft Days,
- 7:12Speaker 2: and I mentioned that it's not a draft day anymore.
- 7:15Speaker 2: We're not as focused on Day one as we usually are. Brian,
- 7:18Speaker 2: it's always a you know, we have a big party,
- 7:20Speaker 2: we do a lot of stuff like that, but this
- 7:21Speaker 2: year it's very much about.
- 7:23Speaker 1: The later rounds and finding quality later on.
- 7:26Speaker 5: This team is led by a man in James Gladstone,
- 7:29Speaker 5: who has been a part of rams organizations that have
- 7:32Speaker 5: mined the portion of the draft where the Jaguars are drafting,
- 7:37Speaker 5: you know, from the middle of the second round on.
- 7:41Speaker 4: My hot take is kind of in this area.
- 7:43Speaker 5: So I'm going to just lay out a little bit
- 7:44Speaker 5: here only to say that this is an important draft
- 7:48Speaker 5: for the Jaguars, and just because you don't have a
- 7:50Speaker 5: first round pick, John in a draft most people think
- 7:53Speaker 5: has about fifteen guys who have legitimate first round grades.
- 7:56Speaker 5: So that means from the middle of the first round
- 7:58Speaker 5: on down, it becomes what tra it's are important to you,
- 8:00Speaker 5: when personality qualities are important to you, the kind of people,
- 8:03Speaker 5: the positions you're looking for. It's not a bad year
- 8:07Speaker 5: to not have a first round pick. I think it's
- 8:08Speaker 5: a really good year to have a couple of picks,
- 8:11Speaker 5: you know, congested where they do between fifty and ninety.
- 8:14Speaker 6: Yeah, and if you're a Jaguar fan, you know, don't
- 8:16Speaker 6: not watch the draft on Thursday because late. I don't
- 8:21Speaker 6: think it's out of the question at all that there's
- 8:23Speaker 6: activity for the Jaguars late in that first round. But
- 8:27Speaker 6: I don't necessarily think the Jaguars are sitting around here
- 8:29Speaker 6: right now going, oh, we've got to get into the
- 8:31Speaker 6: first I do think they're looking at, you know, certain
- 8:35Speaker 6: positions and waiting to see where guys fall.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I think they're ready to move up.
- 8:40Speaker 6: I also think they're ready to move up into the
- 8:43Speaker 6: early part of the second, into the mid part of
- 8:45Speaker 6: the second. This team's not going to just you know,
- 8:49Speaker 6: ThEC will not be dark tomorrow, they will not be
- 8:53Speaker 6: at their own draft party. They'll be ready to move
- 8:56Speaker 6: if the opportunity is there.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe keep keep an eye on the team. You
- 9:00Speaker 2: don't have to like make an appointment television, but just definitely.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Stream something on one and then go to the other.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Absolutely, just a little bit pay attention, keep your eye
- 9:07Speaker 2: on things.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Stay with us here on Jagsam.
- 9:09Speaker 2: We're going to talk to some of your favorite players,
- 9:12Speaker 2: see what they're doing in the off season, and also
- 9:13Speaker 2: we'll give you our hot takes about the draft.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Welcome in, Jags fans.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Were checking with your favorite Jaguars players in the off season,
- 9:29Speaker 2: so we're checking in with the defensive captain, Jordan Lewis
- 9:32Speaker 2: in the off season.
- 9:33Speaker 1: See what he's up to.
- 9:33Speaker 2: So, first of all, congratulations, I know even new addition
- 9:35Speaker 2: to the family.
- 9:37Speaker 8: Yes, thank you so much, Naomi Lewis.
- 9:40Speaker 9: So she's she's been a pleasure and we just was
- 9:44Speaker 9: excited to you know, go through this journey again Number three.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Absolutely and have some off season time so actually we
- 9:50Speaker 2: get to be home with the family. Must be nice
- 9:52Speaker 2: as well.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Absolutely, Yeah, we take full advantage of that too.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I know.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Let's football wise, you obviously had some injuries last year.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Your how's the rehab going for you? How do you
- 10:01Speaker 2: feel right now? Physically?
- 10:03Speaker 8: It's doing really well.
- 10:05Speaker 9: I'm starting to you know, transition to doing all the workouts, uh,
- 10:08Speaker 9: you know, no limitations, full body weight running and things
- 10:11Speaker 9: like that, you know, trying to get some lateral movement going.
- 10:15Speaker 8: But it's it's going really well.
- 10:16Speaker 9: I think we arehead a schedule right now, and I'm
- 10:18Speaker 9: excited to see what I can do with OTAs and
- 10:20Speaker 9: and trade camp.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Absolutely, people be back in the building soon, kind of
- 10:24Speaker 2: start that off season program. Uh, you've had some time now,
- 10:27Speaker 2: it's about two a couple of months. Have you looked
- 10:30Speaker 2: back on kind of the first season here in Jacksonville.
- 10:32Speaker 2: What's kind of your takeaway from obviously making the playoffs
- 10:35Speaker 2: and and exit and some injuries for you, But what
- 10:38Speaker 2: was your kind of takeaway first year hearing Jackson Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 9: It was just experience honestly, you know, we had an
- 10:44Speaker 9: experience with you know what a team like that would
- 10:46Speaker 9: look like, you know, going far further than the playoffs,
- 10:50Speaker 9: and then you know, just playing you know, a really
- 10:52Speaker 9: good ball at the end of the season, not having
- 10:54Speaker 9: any mental laps, playing our best ball, you know when
- 10:57Speaker 9: it's required. And I think that's the ma ain't take
- 11:00Speaker 9: away all takes from last year was just that guy's
- 11:04Speaker 9: got some experienced reps and then they got to experience,
- 11:08Speaker 9: you know, what it feels like to be in the
- 11:09Speaker 9: playoffs and you know how it is to play in
- 11:11Speaker 9: those type of situations and understanding you know, those high
- 11:14Speaker 9: pressure UH plays and reps that we need to take
- 11:18Speaker 9: advantage of. And I feel like we we're getting better
- 11:21Speaker 9: and I think we're gonna we're to have an excellent
- 11:23Speaker 9: season of football.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Oh. We felt like, at least from outside perspective, you
- 11:30Speaker 2: and Eric Murray came in and kind of really developed
- 11:32Speaker 2: that room some younger guys, and we saw a lot
- 11:35Speaker 2: of success out of some of the young guys, whether
- 11:37Speaker 2: it's Antonio Johnson or Jarian or just kind of them
- 11:39Speaker 2: really buying into and appreciating that leadership and experience you
- 11:43Speaker 2: brought to the room. What are you excited about kind
- 11:45Speaker 2: of going into this year, not only them getting another
- 11:47Speaker 2: year of experience, but also you know, Travis Hunter will
- 11:49Speaker 2: be back healthy, Caleb Brands, I'll be out there. It's
- 11:52Speaker 2: exciting kind of room and group.
- 11:53Speaker 5: To be with.
- 11:55Speaker 9: Yeah, honestly, it starts with our foundation and you know Camp,
- 12:00Speaker 9: he has an amazing foundation he gave He gave me
- 12:03Speaker 9: and Eric that voice to be out there and you know,
- 12:05Speaker 9: be an extension of him. So, you know, without that foundation,
- 12:08Speaker 9: without him being able to teach us techniques, teach us,
- 12:11Speaker 9: you know, different types of coverages and how to play
- 12:14Speaker 9: football the right way. You know, me and me and
- 12:17Speaker 9: Eric wouldn't have been, you know, as valuable. So it
- 12:19Speaker 9: starts with him. I'm it starts with the defensive staff,
- 12:22Speaker 9: and I'm I'm excited. I'm excited to go out there
- 12:25Speaker 9: and see what the young guys do, you know, just
- 12:27Speaker 9: trying to give him any type of wisdom to further.
- 12:29Speaker 8: Their football football careers.
- 12:32Speaker 9: And I'm excited honestly, you know, so I feel like
- 12:35Speaker 9: we started that foundation and like you said that, that's
- 12:39Speaker 9: definitely an exciting group to go out there and play
- 12:42Speaker 9: with this year, to see where you know, we stack
- 12:44Speaker 9: up amongst the best, and I think we should be
- 12:47Speaker 9: one of the best, if not the best, in the
- 12:49Speaker 9: in the NFL.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Coach Camp interviewed for some head coaching jobs, but he's
- 12:52Speaker 2: gonna be back now, so be second year in his system.
- 12:55Speaker 2: What is it about his either coaching or communication style?
- 12:58Speaker 2: Why is he so effective? How is he able to
- 13:00Speaker 2: be so effective?
- 13:02Speaker 8: He's the ultimate teacher.
- 13:03Speaker 9: Honestly, he teaches you from the from the little minute
- 13:07Speaker 9: details to you know, the grand scheme of you know,
- 13:10Speaker 9: what we're trying to do.
- 13:10Speaker 8: So everybody from UHLA from the.
- 13:14Speaker 9: Nose guard to to the safety, they don't know exactly
- 13:17Speaker 9: what the defense is, you know, call to do and
- 13:20Speaker 9: what we're trying to do on that on that specific play.
- 13:22Speaker 9: So it starts right there, like I said, with him,
- 13:25Speaker 9: and that's why it makes him, you know, so so
- 13:27Speaker 9: dynamic as a coach and as a guy that coordinates
- 13:31Speaker 9: the defense too. But honestly, I think he's he's the
- 13:35Speaker 9: ultimate coach man, and I don't I don't think I
- 13:38Speaker 9: had a better defensive coordinator from him, I mean, from
- 13:42Speaker 9: you know, being in the league and than he is.
- 13:45Speaker 9: So I'm excited to, you know, go out there and
- 13:49Speaker 9: to experience that second year with him and help him
- 13:51Speaker 9: in any way to make sure this football team is
- 13:54Speaker 9: this defense is one of the best in the league.
- 13:57Speaker 2: We're talking at Coach con a little bit and the
- 13:59Speaker 2: success you guys had in your one obviously very impressive,
- 14:02Speaker 2: but also realizing it starts, it starts.
- 14:05Speaker 1: A new year.
- 14:06Speaker 2: That doesn't mean anything anymore, right, So what how is
- 14:09Speaker 2: is there a balance between using that experience and also realizing, hey,
- 14:12Speaker 2: we're starting from zero again.
- 14:14Speaker 9: Yeah, we got to understand, you know what it's about education.
- 14:17Speaker 9: It's about understanding what what the defense called, what the
- 14:21Speaker 9: what the what the.
- 14:22Speaker 8: The overarching theme is for the football team and you.
- 14:25Speaker 9: Know how we want to play football the Jaguars in
- 14:28Speaker 9: twenty twenty six, twenty seven, And that's just you know,
- 14:33Speaker 9: understanding what we need to do and understanding that you know,
- 14:37Speaker 9: it's still going to be a new year at that
- 14:40Speaker 9: so it's going to be a new team. But at
- 14:41Speaker 9: the same time, we have experience enough to e spirits
- 14:44Speaker 9: enough from the young guys and you know, older guys
- 14:46Speaker 9: to understand what they want from us and what they
- 14:49Speaker 9: want to see this year. So it's a challenge because
- 14:52Speaker 9: it's a new year. Like you said, it's gonna be
- 14:54Speaker 9: new pieces and new people, different places. But I think
- 14:58Speaker 9: that we have that foundation from the year one in
- 15:00Speaker 9: the system to you know, excel in your two.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Treyvon Walker got a contract extension, so he's gonna be
- 15:05Speaker 2: here a little bit longer. You play on the field
- 15:07Speaker 2: with him, He's so he's so tough, and he's just
- 15:11Speaker 2: a very unique kind of player. What's it like being
- 15:14Speaker 2: on the field with him? And what does he bring
- 15:15Speaker 2: to the team.
- 15:15Speaker 8: Man, he's so selfless.
- 15:17Speaker 9: You don't see a lot of edge players in the
- 15:19Speaker 9: NFL nowadays that get a lot of recognition for going
- 15:22Speaker 9: to go get the passer. Be that you know, humble
- 15:26Speaker 9: and team oriented, and he's an invaluable piece to what
- 15:30Speaker 9: we do.
- 15:31Speaker 8: He stops to run, he can go get the passer.
- 15:34Speaker 9: I mean, he's he's very influential on the in the
- 15:37Speaker 9: locker room too, and he's always positive. He's always a positive.
- 15:40Speaker 9: Guy's never a negative moment with with Trayvon. And I'm
- 15:44Speaker 9: excited to go out there and you know, be behind
- 15:46Speaker 9: him him, go rush the pastor and you know, get
- 15:49Speaker 9: some uh, he got some incentives to go get the
- 15:52Speaker 9: quarterbacks some more too.
- 15:53Speaker 8: So that that should help us some more going on
- 15:56Speaker 8: along this year.
- 15:57Speaker 9: And it's just he's a pleasure him and him and
- 15:59Speaker 9: Josh Man, they just, you know, they just want to
- 16:01Speaker 9: get better. They want to become better football players and
- 16:04Speaker 9: help this team elevate to where I think we can do.
- 16:07Speaker 8: And I think that's a super Bowl.
- 16:08Speaker 2: That was our off season check in with Jordan Lewis
- 16:10Speaker 2: day with us here on Jagszam. We got more coming
- 16:12Speaker 2: up after the.
- 16:12Speaker 10: Break, Welcome back in and afternoon edition of Jags Aam.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We're getting ready for those long night shifts ahead. We're
- 16:27Speaker 2: am people, but you know we got to get ready
- 16:28Speaker 2: for primetime. It'll be a little bit quieter than usual
- 16:31Speaker 2: on Thursday, as long as everything doesn't go crazy like
- 16:35Speaker 2: we have seen it do before.
- 16:36Speaker 4: I'm so all of sorts.
- 16:37Speaker 5: I mean, I'm used to being on site and without
- 16:40Speaker 5: having our first round pick this year, and without having
- 16:42Speaker 5: a stadium to do a stadium party in.
- 16:44Speaker 4: I'm sure I'm not the only one, aren't you generally offside? Also, yes, I'm.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Usually at a party.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I was at Lemon Bar last year, so I will
- 16:50Speaker 2: be in house this time around. We're gonna have pre
- 16:53Speaker 2: coverage of course, and then after pick analysis, we'll still
- 16:55Speaker 2: be on tomorrow night on Jaguars dot Com and YouTube
- 16:59Speaker 2: and you can check u out.
- 17:00Speaker 1: We'll tell you everything we know.
- 17:01Speaker 2: We're gonna check in with the big guns, and as.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Things go along, we will analyze them. But first we're
- 17:07Speaker 1: gonna give.
- 17:07Speaker 2: You our hot takes for this draft because it's a
- 17:09Speaker 2: little bit different than usual.
- 17:10Speaker 1: So Brian, what's hot take?
- 17:11Speaker 4: I think this is a really important draft.
- 17:13Speaker 5: In fact, I think it'll be a defining draft for
- 17:16Speaker 5: James Gladstone. Not just twenty twenty six success, but I
- 17:20Speaker 5: think if we look back in two or three years,
- 17:22Speaker 5: we'll say that what they get done at right now
- 17:25Speaker 5: fifty six.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Eighty one, eighty eight, and eighty or one hundred will
- 17:29Speaker 4: be really important.
- 17:31Speaker 5: It'll be a barometer because when you go and you
- 17:33Speaker 5: look at what the Rams did in the second round,
- 17:37Speaker 5: middle of the second round, from pick fifty to about
- 17:39Speaker 5: pick ninety, man, they really made them.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Hey, I mean, Cooper Cup was pick sixty nine.
- 17:44Speaker 5: You take Brian Young, we saw him last year, right
- 17:46Speaker 5: he was picked seventy seven. Kobe Turner was picked eighty nine.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Just past that, Ernest Jones, their linebacker was one oh three,
- 17:54Speaker 5: So I think those four picks will be critical starters,
- 17:58Speaker 5: not the least of which you get two guys from
- 18:00Speaker 5: the eighties back last year Caleb Bramstell didn't play in
- 18:03Speaker 5: Wiolett Myland was severely limited with the knee injury. So
- 18:06Speaker 5: I really think that this is an important even though
- 18:08Speaker 5: it's not a first round pick, or it's a draft
- 18:11Speaker 5: without a first round pick, at this moment, I really
- 18:13Speaker 5: think that this is going to be because James Gladstone
- 18:17Speaker 5: was part of that Rams organization that did such great work.
- 18:21Speaker 4: And go take a look.
- 18:22Speaker 5: You'll see not even to forget one point sixty four
- 18:25Speaker 5: Kyron Williams one seventy seven Pooka.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Nukuah to eleven Quinton Lake.
- 18:29Speaker 5: I mean, they have done great work with picks, and
- 18:31Speaker 5: I fully expect that Gladstone will put in front of
- 18:34Speaker 5: his coach eight to ten really important picks, guys who
- 18:40Speaker 5: will evolve and develop into, if not big time players
- 18:44Speaker 5: like a Puka Nukua, guys who fit in so that
- 18:47Speaker 5: some guys can go and you can keep your salary
- 18:48Speaker 5: cap healthy.
- 18:49Speaker 6: Well if they stay with eleven picks, I think they
- 18:51Speaker 6: had what ten last year?
- 18:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:54Speaker 6: Are you getting the count well, if you start doing
- 18:57Speaker 6: the math, eleven are probably going to be either on
- 19:01Speaker 6: the team out of this draft in that range ten
- 19:04Speaker 6: or on the practice squad with a chance to really
- 19:06Speaker 6: move up. You're doing the last two drafts twenty out
- 19:10Speaker 6: of fifty three guys. The core changes very quickly in
- 19:15Speaker 6: these first couple of drafts. First three, this will be
- 19:19Speaker 6: second twenty two players. The culture is changing, so every
- 19:24Speaker 6: draft is key. But I agree with Brian those four
- 19:26Speaker 6: or five picks between two and four in this draft,
- 19:30Speaker 6: especially which is considered maybe not great at the top,
- 19:34Speaker 6: but really good at a lot of spots in those areas,
- 19:38Speaker 6: you could see a lot of key players, even if
- 19:42Speaker 6: they're not first year starters.
- 19:43Speaker 5: One more to mention, if the Jags are to move
- 19:45Speaker 5: up a little bit, not even to the first round.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Briton Fisk was the thirty ninth pick of the draft
- 19:51Speaker 5: a couple of years ago, and we saw Fisk and
- 19:53Speaker 5: Kobe Turner and Brian Young all play a significant role
- 19:57Speaker 5: in the Rams win in London on that defensive front.
- 20:00Speaker 5: So there's a lot you can get done in the
- 20:01Speaker 5: second and third rounds, and I expect that they will.
- 20:04Speaker 1: John, what did you bring for us with your hot
- 20:07Speaker 1: take this week, Well.
- 20:08Speaker 6: Don't if you're a Jags fan, don't necessary have something
- 20:14Speaker 6: on tomorrow. Don't necessarily go straight to Netflix and stream
- 20:17Speaker 6: stranger things, because stranger things have happened than the Jaguars
- 20:21Speaker 6: trading up to get into the first round. So I
- 20:24Speaker 6: wouldn't really sleep on anything. I would not sleep on
- 20:28Speaker 6: them trading up. I also would not be shocked you're
- 20:30Speaker 6: sending fifty six to see a later night on Friday
- 20:34Speaker 6: than we're expecting, mainly because this organization, with Gladstone, Miscellly
- 20:40Speaker 6: and Cohen, they are going to be bold, and if
- 20:44Speaker 6: bold means going up into the first round, if there's
- 20:47Speaker 6: the right guy, they're not afraid to do it.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And I saw last year they're not.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Really even afraid to do something that might get criticized
- 20:54Speaker 6: a little bit. So I would not necessarily assume anything
- 20:58Speaker 6: about this draft. I think there's probably as good a
- 21:00Speaker 6: chance of them coming back as there is going up.
- 21:03Speaker 6: But out of those fifties, you know, I've been writing
- 21:06Speaker 6: and everybody's been talking for weeks, fifty six, eighty one,
- 21:09Speaker 6: eighty eight, one hundred, I think it's a very low
- 21:12Speaker 6: chance that those are the four were talking about on mine.
- 21:15Speaker 6: I mean, I think they're going to move because they're
- 21:17Speaker 6: going to be creative and aggressive.
- 21:20Speaker 5: There's a lot of noise out there right now about
- 21:22Speaker 5: them going up into the bottom of the first round.
- 21:24Speaker 5: I think running back is what a lot of people
- 21:25Speaker 5: are talking about. I'll say this, nobody knew last year
- 21:29Speaker 5: that they were going up to two to get Travis
- 21:31Speaker 5: Hunter until they went on the clock.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I mean that never wanted people to know.
- 21:34Speaker 4: That, never broke.
- 21:36Speaker 5: These guys have been very good so far at making
- 21:40Speaker 5: sure you couldn't follow their trail. They let you know
- 21:43Speaker 5: what they wanted you to know, and the rest of
- 21:45Speaker 5: it they kept very very tight to the best. And
- 21:48Speaker 5: you know, my early days of covering this thing, I
- 21:50Speaker 5: wanted to know. Now I just kind of admire the
- 21:52Speaker 5: fact that they can keep it a secret in today's
- 21:54Speaker 5: media world, and I'm excited to get to draft night
- 21:57Speaker 5: and see what they do.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I'm excited too.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I think I wanted to point out with my hot
- 22:02Speaker 2: take this week that your priorities or your needs may
- 22:07Speaker 2: not match their needs. And I say that because we've
- 22:10Speaker 2: been talking off season.
- 22:11Speaker 1: You know, we didn't know where they were going to go.
- 22:13Speaker 2: You think, hey, they need some help on the defensive line,
- 22:16Speaker 2: or maybe they need a replacement.
- 22:17Speaker 1: For Devin Lloyd at linebacker.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I've learned through the years, and this specifically with the
- 22:22Speaker 2: regime we now have in place, what you think you
- 22:24Speaker 2: know and what you think this team needs is not
- 22:26Speaker 2: going to necessarily match up with what they end up
- 22:28Speaker 2: doing during the draft on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So
- 22:31Speaker 2: if you're saying, oh, they need to get a linebacker
- 22:33Speaker 2: at a fifty six, that's not necessarily where this is
- 22:36Speaker 2: gonna be at where this is gonna go. And obviously,
- 22:38Speaker 2: as John mentioned, they could move around might look different
- 22:41Speaker 2: with what picks they have available. But as we saw
- 22:44Speaker 2: last year with that trade going down so close and
- 22:47Speaker 2: no one knowing about it until it happened, they will
- 22:50Speaker 2: get what they want.
- 22:51Speaker 1: But they're not necessarily going to tell anybody about it
- 22:53Speaker 1: until they do it.
- 22:53Speaker 6: You'll say this to clarify because people who watch this
- 22:56Speaker 6: show will be tuned in presumably this people watch this
- 23:01Speaker 6: show are the hard cores who are watching everything, right,
- 23:04Speaker 6: So there's gonna be points tomorrow or on on on
- 23:08Speaker 6: on Friday, even if they don't take a linebacker, which
- 23:10Speaker 6: because Devin Lloyd's gone, it's it's a perceived need or
- 23:13Speaker 6: if they don't go defensive tackle because interior press pressure
- 23:16Speaker 6: is in need. They feel fine about Ventrel Miller plan.
- 23:21Speaker 6: They feel fine about the group. They have an outside linebacker.
- 23:24Speaker 1: There's no I.
- 23:25Speaker 6: You know, Ventrell was pushing Devin Lloyd for the starting position,
- 23:29Speaker 6: so there's no doubt there. They like Trayvon inside you know,
- 23:33Speaker 6: s some and they feel like they can get the
- 23:35Speaker 6: interior pressure. They feel very needless going into this draft,
- 23:41Speaker 6: and uh, needless is is a good thing. So UH,
- 23:46Speaker 6: don't necessarily think again, cause book I said, don't think
- 23:49Speaker 6: because they don't address linebacker right right there, that it's
- 23:53Speaker 6: a weakness, because that's not how they see it at all.
- 23:56Speaker 4: What was the what's the phrase you think you know
- 23:58Speaker 4: but you don't. I I use it again.
- 24:00Speaker 1: John knows, John knows. Everything says fair.
- 24:03Speaker 2: We'll tell you what the schedule is going to be
- 24:04Speaker 2: looking like tomorrow and for the rest of draft weekend,
- 24:16Speaker 2: Jags fans, locking your seats here for twenty twenty six.
- 24:18Speaker 1: The stadium will be open.
- 24:20Speaker 2: As we know, they're gonna play in Orlando the year after,
- 24:23Speaker 2: but this coming year it's gonna be a limited capacity.
- 24:25Speaker 2: So you want to get your seats as soon as
- 24:26Speaker 2: you can. Don't miss out on your chance at the
- 24:28Speaker 2: season's biggest matchups. Place your deposit at Jaguars dot com
- 24:31Speaker 2: slash tickets.
- 24:34Speaker 11: All that's a that's a fair question. I think that
- 24:40Speaker 11: I definitely tried my best to take some steps to
- 24:45Speaker 11: clear the air, so to speak, and zoom out well
- 24:49Speaker 11: at the same time. It's when it's what you love,
- 24:51Speaker 11: it's hard to detach fully.
- 25:01Speaker 1: A really cool episode of The Hunt.
- 25:03Speaker 2: If you guys haven't checked it out this week, I
- 25:04Speaker 2: haven't been able to watch the entire thing, but I
- 25:06Speaker 2: helped with some of the interviews for it, and it's
- 25:08Speaker 2: all about their tracking, their analysis system, the system they
- 25:12Speaker 2: use in scouting, and how they kind of analyze players,
- 25:15Speaker 2: how they make these picks and the selections and the
- 25:17Speaker 2: whole team work that's built up behind James Gladstone because
- 25:22Speaker 2: we give him all the credit, but there's a lot
- 25:23Speaker 2: of guys involved in this and it's really cool. So
- 25:26Speaker 2: if you haven't checked that out, it's on Jaguars dot
- 25:27Speaker 2: com Jaguars YouTube, and we do want to tell you
- 25:31Speaker 2: that we will be here all week.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It's a little bit different than normal. We're not gonna
- 25:33Speaker 1: have draft.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Party, but we will be here with all your coverage.
- 25:36Speaker 2: We'll start at seven thirty on Thursday, and we'll also
- 25:39Speaker 2: have a pre show six thirty on Friday, and after
- 25:42Speaker 2: every Jaguar's pick, we're gonna have an analysis of that,
- 25:44Speaker 2: so we'll jump in with you. We're gonna be talking
- 25:46Speaker 2: to the big guys, James Gladstone, Tony Bisselliam Cohen, coaches, scouting.
- 25:51Speaker 2: We got you covered. We're not at the draft this year,
- 25:54Speaker 2: but we're here and we're ready for it.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You guys ready, I'm ready.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go Born ready draft. That's good.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well, we'll see all you guys tomorrow. Enjoy the draft
- 26:00Speaker 2: this weekend
