- 0:12SPEAKER_02: What's up everyone?
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Kids in the Calling Podcast, where none of us are kids, but we all have a calling.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And that's the point to put a teaset.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Audrey.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: With me is Hudson Walton.
- 0:21SPEAKER_05: Hey guys.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: Ramsay Pavlou.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hey, and our newest permanent member, Luke Gibson.
- 0:25SPEAKER_05: Hey guys.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: Luke is going to be taking the place of Andrea and Lincoln because they're going off to college.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Big choose Phil Luke.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Yes, indeed.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Um, they will be missed, but we are really excited for this third season of the podcast, and we can't wait to see what God's gonna do.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: This season we're gonna keep a similar format to last season, where the first half of the podcast will be the um sermon from Sunday, and the second half is going to be instead of Proverbs, it'll be James, which is kind of like the proverbs of the New Testament.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: So, um, starting off, what did you guys miss most about the podcast?
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I just missed the uh the routine of doing it every Monday.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: I got it so ingrained into me that when we weren't doing it, it just felt like something was missing for a bit.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Like it felt weird the next few Mondays not coming here and not on Sunday.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: Yes, I take notes for me, but there was something about specifically taking notes for the podcast from the message that I just felt it felt wrong that I wasn't doing that for a bit.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: It was like it's weird not having like the podcast really gives me like a refresher of the message because it forces me to go back and relook at everything and it ingrains it more into my memory.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: And so I remember the the sermons way more when we do the podcast.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: And so I think it was just more of a struggle to like remember what happened last Sunday, but I'm so excited to start back.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I know me too.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: What I miss most about it was definitely bouncing ideas off of each other and also seeing just different perspective and perspectives and lessons that uh each one of us took from the same scripture.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's really eye-opening to just talk about it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, just get other perspectives on it.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I just miss most like kind of everything you guys said, but also just us being together, like all getting in the same room with just this little group we've made.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: It was like we see each other every week and we talk for like two or three hours sometimes if we get to talking too much.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: And so it was like all every Monday was just kind of like, I miss my people.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: So, um, anyway, starting off with the sermon, what did you guys think about Pastor Jared's sermon on Sunday?
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: I thought it was a very good uh beginning to the God Can series.
- 2:32SPEAKER_05: If for those of you that do not know what that is, we've had the God Can series every August since 2017, and it's been based on the scripture Jeremiah 32, 27.
- 2:43SPEAKER_05: I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Is anything too hard for me?
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: It's a faith-building series that is very very good for the church, and it always brings revival through this month.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: Title of uh this one was Expectation.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: Whoa, hold up.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: No, the precursor to the miraculous.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: But yeah, you just you just basically said what the message is about with that one word, expectation.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: That was kind of the core theme.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: And I really thought it was a kind of a perfect way to open up wherever God wants to go with the series because it was a really powerful message.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: Um I I really like the the way he opened up the message talking about going to that uh that concert as a kid.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: I don't even remember the dude's name.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: Carmen Carmen, dude.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: Carmen, but I had to look it up afterwards, and you guys actually show me that at the taco night y'all just did.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Everyone listening needs to look it up too, because it's it's interesting.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Just watch the message, bro.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: It's so funny.
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: It was a good old time watching that uh that like concert performance of Carmen.
- 3:42SPEAKER_04: But the way Pastor Jared explained it is he used that to show that as a kid, it was like his first ever concert he can remember going to.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: He went, they had a good time, everyone was excited, everyone was hyped watching this uh performance.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: And then after it ended, um, he was like, All right, we gotta get out of here first before everyone else.
- 4:03SPEAKER_04: And so he was of the mindset where I gotta leave my aisle and get out of here ASAP.
- 4:07SPEAKER_04: Well, he noticed that the other people in the crowd, even though the house lights were down and uh dude had already walked off, they just started shouting and screaming and like hollering.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Like they were waiting for more.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and he was like, What?
- 4:20SPEAKER_04: And then lo and behold, he comes back and sings another song because the crowd wanted it so bad.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: And he used that as an example of how we should kind of be with God.
- 4:29SPEAKER_04: Um, sometimes we get what we wanted, like Pastor Jared.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: He went to that concert, he got what he wanted, he got what he came there for.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: And if he would have just left there and not done anything, like the crowd that shouted for him to come back, that would have just been it.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: But the crowd got more than what they were were originally expecting because they had the expectation of it, and yeah, that's a really powerful message.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: It was like obvious because he was talking about the way like everybody expected him to sing the song, and so he did.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: And so it was kind of like obviously no one went there to this concert thinking like this was gonna be a bad show because they all paid to go see this guy that they liked.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so when they went expecting him to be great and play good, even if he wasn't that good, they probably would have thought it was great anyway because they liked the singer and because they believed it would be great.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: And so in their minds, it was already gonna be a good show.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: So it like he pulled through no matter what.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: And it's like, how much more would God move in all of our lives if that if that's how we enter if that's how we treated every encounter with God?
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: If it wasn't just I got what I wanted and I'm done, I'm pulling back.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: What if we had the expectation that there's always more?
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: How powerful would that be?
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the expectation should never leave, even if he's already showed up or if he hasn't yet.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: He made a um, he had made a quote, I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was like something along the lines of the expectation will keep you there.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Or like even when there's like seems like there's nothing left, like ex expecting there to be more will keep you there.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Believing for there to always be more will keep you there even when it seems hard like there's nothing left to believe in, having the expectation that God's not done will keep you there and believing for more.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Which is kind of like I guess that it's kind of what you're like, what you're saying is perfectly with how you know Carmen left the stage or whatever.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Like it seems like your miracle might not have been answered yet, or it seems like God's done with the situation, He's walked away, and your prayers aren't answered, and you don't know what to do next.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: But the fans were still there expecting we should still pray and and have faith and believe and be expecting that God will provide for me and that he will come through with this miracle for me.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And that's kind of the whole part of like the faith of it is the expecting and the faith of it is what gets your miracle answered.
- 6:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I just think it's powerful that the message is the same whether, like you said, you don't get what you were wanting originally or you do.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: The it you still should have the same expectation either way.
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: And that's that that's what stuck out the most to me.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: That um, because I mean, I'm human, um, just a normal dude.
- 6:57SPEAKER_04: So I asked for something from God, I get it, and I'm kind of just like, okay, I got it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: But what Pastor Jared is saying is that no, I should keep on expecting.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: It doesn't matter if I got it or not, there's always more.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: So I should be expecting either way, and that was that's what was powerful to me.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: I actually went to a concert recently, uh the Force Frank concert, and they did like an encore just like that.
- 7:18SPEAKER_05: But instead of the crowd like hyping it up by themselves and trying to get him to come back on their own, they had uh two guys that sang a different song with him.
- 7:26SPEAKER_05: They got out there before he even came out, and they were getting they were the outlet that started the encore.
- 7:32SPEAKER_05: I find that uh I sometimes am uh I feel guilty of this from learning this now that well, we kind of rely on our pastor or whoever's on the stage singing to be our hype man to get the encore going, to keep our expectations high.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: Sister Jen can get those expectations high.
- 7:51SPEAKER_05: She's absolutely very, very good at that.
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: But what happens when we're on our own, and we have to make that happen.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: We have to have expectation on our own, not built up from other people or from something else.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: That's a good point.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: That's really good.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: I think especially like whenever you're going to church and things like that, I think that part of part of the spiritual aspect of it is getting in God's word before you get there.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: And like not necessarily walking into church, not having gotten in his presence at all today.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: We should be praying and ex waiting in expectation for what's gonna happen in the service.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: So we should walk into some spiritual you know what I mean?
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, spiritual.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Like going into service with a pre like a pre-idea, like over what okay, so walking in, already having your prayer that day and like already having a moment with God or listening and getting into the moment with worship.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: So when you go into church, you can go in knowing that you're expecting it to be great and it actually be great.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because I guarantee you, any real fan going to a concert, they're gonna have listened to all of those songs multiple times before so that when the performance is going on, they can sing along, they can be a part of the moment.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, should be that same mindset the church, not to sing along, but you should be prepared within yourself.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: So when you're going to church, you're not just kind of standing there, you're expecting that God's gonna move.
- 9:12SPEAKER_04: Um, anything can happen.
- 9:14SPEAKER_04: I know he's gonna do something, so I'm gonna prepare myself.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, God's gonna do something, I need to be ready.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a great point.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: And then um, jumping back to kind of another point my dad made, or well, Pastor Jared made was that some people don't go to church expecting.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: And so, what do you do when you don't go to church expecting?
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: So he was saying, uh, what do you expect when you walk into church?
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: What are you expecting when you pray for signs and wonders?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: What are you expecting when you worship by church and lift your hands and you're singing these words?
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: What are you expecting when you open your word, when you open the Bible and you're reading?
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Are you expecting anything to happen?
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Are you expecting anything to change, or do you subconsciously kind of already just kind of shut it down and just kind of go through the routines and go through the motions?
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Because that's kind of just what you've always done.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Are you going to church and singing the words and truly meaning them and expecting that situation in your life to be changed for the better, changed for good, or something in your body be healed, or someone in your family be healed?
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Like you need to go in expecting, because if you don't, you'll never get that miracle that God has planned for you because you're not asking.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like having a like a I don't know, kind of like a quote unquote new believer like mindset of it.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, whenever like you're first going to church or like you've been through something and you're just like you don't know where to turn to.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: And so a new believer might come to Christ and give it all they got, and they just fall at his feet and they give it all to him.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: They're all in.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: They are expecting, they they need him and they're saying, God, I need you.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: But for some of some of the people who like like us who have been raised in it, we can get really like desensitized.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, desensitized to it, which is another one of his points that we're about to get to.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: But like it's important to always have like the childlike faith, like the Bible says.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: When new believers, it's always so crazy to watch new believers be so committed and jump right in head first, not like even hesitating because they're so hungry and ready to learn and they're expecting their life because they know they've been through the dirt, you know, like they've been through it and they don't want that anymore.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: So they're fully expecting God to change that.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: But then as you just said, growing up in the churches, you can forget that this isn't normal.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: You've been blessed, and you're kind of just still just going through it.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: But you need to be expecting and believing for more because he always has more for you.
- 11:27SPEAKER_04: Because there's such a difference between, I think this is something that Pastor said as well.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: There's such a difference between just knowing that God can do it and expecting him to.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: I mean, you ask any one of us, you ask anyone that shows up on church on Sunday regularly, can God heal people?
- 11:42SPEAKER_04: Can God fix your situation?
- 11:43SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: You know he can.
- 11:46SPEAKER_04: But that's a lot different than actively expecting it every time you talk to God, every time you go to church.
- 11:53SPEAKER_04: There's a there's a shift, and that was something Pastor Dear highlighted.
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: It's sure I can know somewhere in my brain that God heals diseases, but when they're sowing up there that has a disease and I'm praying or they're getting prayed for, am I actually expecting God to do it?
- 12:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a major difference.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: I I'm on the same note of that.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: It's like sometimes you can almost like think to yourself subconsciously, or whether you've kind of talked yourself out of it that, yeah, God can do it for others, but can God do it for me?
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Like, do I deserve to be healed?
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Like, what have I done to deserve this?
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And it's just maybe you feel unworried, unworthy, or entitled to ask because of something you've done, and you don't like feel like you deserve to have have that blessing in your life.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: But God tells us in Romans 5, 8, but God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: And so he knew we were gonna be sinners, yet he still came and sent his only son.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: And he continues in Romans 5, 15 through 21.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Um, it's gonna be long, I may not read it all, but it says, But there is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many, but even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through the other man, Jesus Christ.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And it continues on to say that God's free gift led us.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, God's free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we were all guilty of many sins.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And it continues I'm gonna just point out some of the main points.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: It says, Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everybody, for everyone, but God, but okay, sorry, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: And so he's promised to everybody grace, a gift of grace, and to relieve condemnation.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: And so every it just points out that everybody's deserving of this, whether you think you are or not.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: He's come to save you, he cares for you, and he wants to help you.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, it's like whether you think you deserve it or not.
- 13:53SPEAKER_04: I mean, none of us really deserve it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: Because God's just like, yep, I'm giving this to you.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: It's but he can't for the taking.
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: Well, I did this for you, so you don't deserve it, but I'm doing it for you because I'm so merciful.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it says there it was a free gift of um grace.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: But yeah, that's a good point.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: Um we should have that expectation because God lays it out in his word.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: Like he tells us I died for you, man.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: Like it's yours.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: You just gotta expect it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_04: You just gotta come to church wanting it, and it's yours.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and if you believe anything in the Bible, you know that you have to believe everything, and he's already told us so true.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: So he's told us that he's done it for us.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: You know you have to believe everything.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't think and choose.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: So he's wrote it down for us.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: So just know that.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: Don't ever feel guilty for asking.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, another point that I really like that he made, which we kind of talked about, which was I cannot seem to say this word, it's so hard.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Desensitization.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Desensitization.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Is that it right?
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: Imagine, dude, I misspelled this word in my notes so many times while I was taking notes on Sunday, bro.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: I keep wanting to say like desensitization, but desensitization.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: So Pastor Jared was making a point how the enemy uses a strategy of desensitization today.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Um, he was explaining how we have AI and social media and the internet and just all these unlimited resources that we can find out anything we want to know in like a matter of seconds.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: And he was talking about how things like social media, they give us a front row seat to everything going on in the world today.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Like all the drama, all um things like murder, things like like there are actual graphic videos, and it's just like that's kind of insane when you think about it.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: That's just 60 second clips that people are like, oh, I'm gonna put this on here for them to see today.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: But then there's also like the next thing you see is like scrolling and it's something happy.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Next thing you see is scrolling and it's something like super sad.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: And so it's like you're getting flooded with all of these emotions, and it kind of just rewires your brain to kind of get numb in a sense.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: And so it's like we're, like you said, desensitized to kind of our own emotions and feelings in some moments.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: And this can be dangerous because it it makes us go into even spiritual services or spiritual events, and we have that same mindset where we don't get into the spirit or into the flow because our brains are shut off and our brains aren't working like they usually would because we're we've become numb to most of our emotions because that's how we're trained to these days.
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's just so easy to get distracted and isolated because of all these distractions around us.
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: Um I'm guilty of this myself growing up in this.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: You could show up to church.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: I can show up to church on Sunday and really not even consider what God's doing in the service the entire time.
- 16:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I could have woke up that morning that Sunday and scrolled on my phone for 30 minutes, gone to church, um, just kind of coasted through the service, thinking about where I'm gonna go eat after.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: And I didn't really engage at all during the service because I'm so in my own head, just desensitized, just kind of coasting through because it's so easy to do that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Our brains are wired to just always think now, like always go to the next thing.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: And like he was saying, like the second one video doesn't have our attention anymore, we scroll and there's another one.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and we scroll and there's another one.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: And it's like our brains are it's definitely horrible for us because we spend so long on these apps like Instagram, Facebook, and we're just scrolling and we're like mindlessly doing so.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: And like when you really think about it, it's so scary.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Like what's actually going on in our brains because it really does rewire your brain.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I liked when he said it, it makes us harder to satisfy because we can be then walking into church and then have a standard all of a sudden.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: And for what?
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: It didn't keep our attention long enough, it didn't sound good enough, it didn't, it didn't touch us like we wanted it to.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: And so then we're just like we pass on through and we're like, and that's not right.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but every there's some you can find something in every moment the word's being spoken.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: It's alive and it's always gonna be giving you something new.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: So you can't just like pass through that and just say you're not satisfied, like you can't just not be satisfied with it and move on to the next thing.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, something can move us, and we've already like scrolled past it like you would with Instagram or whatever.
- 18:08SPEAKER_05: All right, and that's before we even process it.
- 18:11SPEAKER_05: Like it could really move you, and but you don't take the time to think about it for like five seconds.
- 18:17SPEAKER_05: I already got my emotional hostile.
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and move on.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really important that we recognize these patterns and these things because, like he was saying, this is like what the enemy is using, especially for our generation, because we're so vulnerable to it, because it's kind of like we're growing up with this stuff.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Um, 2 Corinthians 2 11 says, so that Satan will not outsmart us, for we are familiar with his evil schemes.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of just why it's important that we know so that we don't keep falling.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like you know history, so you don't repeat it.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Like you need to realize what you're doing so that you don't keep doing it.
- 18:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like we should we should be at a spot, and I'm not saying that this is where I am.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: We should also have to be at a spot where every single time that God moves, even if it's just a tiny shift, it affects us.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because if we aren't careful, especially those of us who have been in this for a long time, God can be moving in a service, and I can just be kind of standing in the crowd, just kind of watching.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Like for a joke.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: It's in parentheses, nothing special.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: I've seen this a hundred times before.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: And if I'm not careful, I can't let that become my mindset.
- 19:17SPEAKER_04: That instead of me seeing this for what it is, this is the king of kings, the god of all creation coming down into this room and moving.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: To me, it's just a normal Sunday.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: And that's a very dangerous spot to be at.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, that literally brings me to this banger quote he said.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: It says, All the enemy really has to do is make holy feel ordinary.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: It doesn't, if he can just make it seem like it's just another Sunday, and like Hudson just said, is where it's just something else he does he does, is that's all he has to do for us to like stop listening.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Because once we're there, we've kind of just we've tuned it out.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: Like it's a very dangerous spot to be when what God's doing just becomes kind of normal to you.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: You become spiritually complacent.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like how you it's a dangerous spot to be numb to the presence of God because it almost starts a butterfly effect.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Because if you stop feeling his presence, then you stop, then you convince yourself that he doesn't care or he's not listening, and you can convince yourself that none of it doesn't even matter to go to church that day or something.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you end up finding yourself mad at God because maybe he did some he quote unquote did something, and then you just it's just his butterfly effect of you stopped listening, you got numb to it, you started getting mad at him, and it just you go down this spiral that's very hard to get back out of.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: So how do you guys think you can real realistically fight spiritual complacency for anyone that does find themselves in a situation like that?
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: That's a good question.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: I would think just I mean, I know it's hard to change your ways, like it is, like if we all have, you know, this one flaw or this habit that we can't get out of.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: But I think what really helps is just having an open mind.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: First of all, I mean, you could say set a screen time, like if it's going to social media, but I think really an open mind willing to learn and listen in every situation.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Don't go into a service expecting it to be exactly like the one that you saw on Instagram last night that was on fire and that had this amazing music and this amazing creature.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I'm not saying that these aren't great, and I'm that does but just because one was great does not mean that tomorrow's will be ungrate if it was different.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Like, don't go into a service or don't go into God's presence expecting something from the past or something that's not what's happening today.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: Just focus on what's happening in the moment.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: And remember, I don't know if this was on the podcast last semester, but at one point we were talking about, or maybe it was just a message, but there's a message when Pastor Jared, I think it was, was talking about not focusing on what you can get from a message necessarily, but sometimes think what are other people getting from this message?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Like, not everything is for you.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Sometimes somebody else really needs to hear a message that might not relate to you.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Like, think about the people around you.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Who who do I need to pray for at altar call?
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Who should I go help?
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Who should I talk to?
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Who should I reach out to?
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Like, because even if it doesn't necessarily apply every bit to you, it applies to someone.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: And then even If it also doesn't apply to you in that moment, it's good to remember whatever lesson was being taught for any future because it could apply to you sometime in the future.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Yes, it builds wisdom.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: I always find that if I listen like to the best of my ability, I at least find something that touches my exact situation.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: Even if it's just like a a sentence or a word, it's something that I can take and use for the week or for that moment, you know?
- 22:24SPEAKER_04: And I think if you do find yourself in that situation, uh yes, 100% come with an open mind.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: Try to pick apart every single thing you can from the word um and see it in a different way.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: But to prepare it beforehand, my advice would be to fast.
- 22:39SPEAKER_04: Um if you're in that situation because of all of the I've been there because of just all the distractions that we have in this modern day and it's cloud of your mind, and church has just become a part of your routine.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:51SPEAKER_04: If you fast for a bit and remove all the distractions, and now it's just God and it's just Sunday, and you know, church on Sunday and it's not just part of your routine, that can really help kind of diminish that uh that fog.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, something get you back to the heart.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Sorry, something um I saw, I don't know whether like how 100% true or not it is, but whether if you're fasting food, something about um food, having a full stomach, okay.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Wait, it was something more so like people can eat for you know, comfort eating.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: It's because apparently having a full stomach can um like desensitize some something in you that's an emotion-wise.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And so when people fast, it makes it like an emptier space for your mind to like clear and it it's makes your emotions feel deeper.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: And so if you fast food, whether or not that's what you're fasting or not, it can make you feel when you fill that time with God, it can make you feel closer to God than you were if you were like full.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know how true it is, but if it's true, that's a kind of a crazy fact and why you would fast food.
- 23:54SPEAKER_04: And that same principle for maybe you don't even fast food, maybe you eat like normal, but maybe you delete Instagram for a month.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: And say if if that was your thing and you spent hours on Instagram every day just scrolling, and that was filling you up, like you were just saying with the food, or that was filling up your emotional uh capacity.
- 24:11SPEAKER_04: And so when you get to church, you have nothing left.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Well, if you clear all that, now you're you're not full anymore.
- 24:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you can you're hungry, and so now when God's moving, you pick that up.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's good.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, also kind of to add on to that question you had asked about what to do to get yourself out, if you find yourself in that moment of needing.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: You're desensitized that is if you recognize it and you need help, don't don't be like afraid to maybe go talk to like a youth pastor.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, pastor, anyone that is above you and that can be that is trustworthy, trustworthy and like truly led by God.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: And so that you could use that as a resource to help you and they can keep you accountable and help you if you've gotten too far.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because you may not be able to see it if you're in it, how you got to this point.
- 25:01SPEAKER_04: But if you go sit down with like your youth pastor or your pastor and they're like, All right, walk me through your day-to-day.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: What do you do in a day?
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: What have you been doing for the past month?
- 25:09SPEAKER_04: They can probably start pinpointing how you got to this point, how you became so desensitized.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and God will use them to help you in ways that you cannot imagine.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Another point is kind of goes with what you were saying earlier, Ramsay, about um if he could make if the enemy can make holy moments feel ordinary, then we become di desensitized to the feeling of the Holy Spirit.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: Um, I think another thing with that is like if you don't come expecting and hoping for a miracle, then you're really not gonna get one.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Because like God's just not gonna hand it out if you're not willing, if you're not changing, if you're not asking for it.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think most of us believe that God can do anything, obviously, like you were saying.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Um, but then we go to service and we only expect a little bit, if nothing.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Like, you know what I mean?
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: It's like the same God that healed like leprosy in the Bible and diseases, and the same God that made the blind see and stuff like that, is the same God that's in our services, the same presence that's in our sanctuary right now while they're practicing for music tonight.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Like, it's just like the things that God can do, it's almost like we're all the ones limiting him.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: He's like, I have so much more to give you and to do here, and I have so much presence to fill this place with, but you're only letting me do so much.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: And I think that's part of the reason we should really have an open mind and we should be expecting, we should be preparing, honestly, for services.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Like, pray in the mornings before your Sunday morning service, or come here and go in the prayer room and pray.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Like, find that moment to get with God and get serious and start expecting and preparing for service that day.
- 26:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: The type of expectation also I think matters because I think there's many people that that come to church not with without expectations, but their expectations are limited.
- 26:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: Like, and I guess that's kind of the whole concept we're talking about here.
- 26:53SPEAKER_05: But even for those that that expect, oh, I I want I'm ready for God to move in such a such a great and such a strong way, and for his presence to just fill the room and be so strong and touch people.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: But we don't like think of it like, oh, somebody could get healed.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_05: Somebody that has cancer in our congregation can walk out of the building that we're standing in just by God moving here and have their life completely changed forever.
- 27:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_05: We don't look at it like that.
- 27:19SPEAKER_05: We kind of just look at it as, well, I know I do, as man, God's gonna move in a in a great way and that he's gonna touch somebody emotionally or what they're going through.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: It almost always stops at like emotions.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: It's like the human mind is just like there is that surface level.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: There's that thing.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: That's kind of how you're you're wired.
- 27:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_04: I mean, if you've been coming to church for a while, I mean, I'm sure you have the baseline expectation of what you were just saying, Luke, that yeah, we're gonna have a great altar call, God's gonna move, and I'm probably gonna try some and then that God's gonna move.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: That'll be great.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: Go home first.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: Like I come expecting that because it's it happens so many times, but you don't really think to expect more.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: That's kind of the call that Pastor Jared is putting on us.
- 27:58SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Because you go.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: I was just gonna say, because God is just He has no limits, so He can do anything.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: And I think like um another thing is like, have you guys also heard, like I've always just kind of heard here and there, like people say, Why do we see like so many miracles in the Bible?
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: But like I feel like I don't see these miraculous things happening today.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: I think another thing is like if you have to really ask yourself what was the difference, probably their expectations.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: They because they were like the one who touched the hem of his garment.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she she went for that, she needed that miracle, she went and got it.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: But like, you know, we just kind of stop at like a little prayer, like, hey God, I really need some help today.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, bye.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: But like, you know, like she went out there, she fought for it.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: And like I feel like that's the difference is like the expectation they had, and like if we have the faith, then he will heal us or he will come through because he he has all power, and if he created everything, then he can fix all things.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's like we kind of like we said, we just keep limiting him to what we what we uh ask for almost.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Like the way we ask is kind of how much you're gonna get back, whether you say a five-second prayer, yeah, or are you gonna fight for it?
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna cry at his feet and surrender at all?
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Like that's when you're really gonna see your miracle happen when you fight more for it.
- 29:10SPEAKER_05: He he even talked about misplaced expectations.
- 29:13SPEAKER_05: Even like we we can have expectations that are great, that are that are enough to where God, you know, yeah, they're higher than usual.
- 29:20SPEAKER_05: Good.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: But he even implemented this with uh Acts 3 and 1 through 8 with Peter, John, the lame man.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: The lame man was expecting money to indirectly help him with his issue of being lame and get him around, or I guess get him food just for the moment.
- 29:37SPEAKER_05: He wasn't looking for deliverance, he wasn't looking for that.
- 29:40SPEAKER_05: He was just looking for what's gonna get me to the next day, yeah, what's gonna let me survive.
- 29:44SPEAKER_05: But that's not what God calls us to.
- 29:46SPEAKER_05: God calls us to to thrive, to touch others, to help others in their time of need, and to be believers that our light is shining into other people's lives and expecting people.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 29:57SPEAKER_04: And I think that kind of shows you that you don't have to have like this super specific expectation.
- 30:02SPEAKER_04: I mean, absolutely, if you heard or felt like two weeks ago that God's gonna heal you, yeah, go to church fully expecting that.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: But a hundred percent if you just go to church fully expecting and believing that God's gonna move powerfully, you don't know how, but you know he's gonna touch some people, you know he's gonna do something, then God's probably he's probably gonna meet you there.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's right.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he just said like you don't know how or when.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Like it could happen at the altar after service, or it could happen in the middle of worship, the first worship song, or it could happen during the message.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Like your deliverance can you don't know what time it will be, but it's gonna be there.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like it's promised.
- 30:37SPEAKER_05: It's not set to the first song.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I also I also liked when he talked about um the placing expectation on the wrong thing, which is people, yeah, and putting too much of an expectation on people who aren't perfect and aren't built to have your attention uh uh give you attention 24-7.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: He you you can't place expectation on something that that can't meet you there.
- 31:07SPEAKER_05: We have to be engaged.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: The expectation, because the people are weak.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: So if we put too much on people and we get disappointed, and if we start expecting disappointment because of the people who disappointed us when we've placed too much expectation on them, then if we go to God, we may start expecting just a disappointment.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Maybe he won't actually help us.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the people that are seeing, they're not there to perform the miracle, they're not there to move, they're there to just be the outlet.
- 31:30SPEAKER_05: Like Peter and John, they weren't there to perform that miracle for that man.
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: They were just going to that prayer meeting at 3 p.m.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: So it's like we forget we have like access to the source itself.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Like we're like trying to go through other people that are letting us down, but it's also like we have to remember that it's not the same as the old testament anymore.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: You don't have to do all this stuff, you just simply speak and he hears you and he's listening.
- 31:51SPEAKER_05: We really have it so easy, we really do, and we just don't take advantage of it.
- 31:55SPEAKER_05: It's like many things like that in life, actually.
- 31:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I gotta say, I maybe cancel for this, but I am so glad I was not born as like an old testament Hebrew and like I mess up and I get stoned.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Dude, yes.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: I know it's kind of crazy.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: They went through it.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: We're blessed.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Thank you, America.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Spoiled.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Thank you, America.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: America, so glad I don't so glad I don't get stoned for like disrespecting my dad.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: That's the verse I always think of when I think of stuff like that.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Um, another thing he had said I really loved was um he must not be done if he didn't do the thing I was expecting.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: Don't take an unanswered prayer as a failure.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Keep waiting and keep praying and keep expecting because your struggle might just be a part of the process that gets you there.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: And like what you're going through, and the thing that you think is breaking you right now is what can be a part of your testimony.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: What might be help someone else hold on for a little longer.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Like that's the way I always try to think of it.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: Like you waiting for your prayer to be answered can be a story that you can tell someone in the future that says, you know what, I'm going through the same thing.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep waiting.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep expecting, I'm gonna keep praying and believing for it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: And the Bible talks about it in Romans 12:12.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: It says, Rejoice in our confident hope, be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: Says in Mark 11, 24, therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them and you will have them.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: Belief and expectation is like the biggest things you need to have when you're praying.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Because your timing is not God's timing, and he may have your miracle planned, but it's just not that.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: It's not that time.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: It's not in the now.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be something in the future that could be used for something way bigger than like our limit would be, like what we think could happen.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: He could go over and do something crazier.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: I think it it all really boils down to um when you show up to church on Sunday, what are you expecting?
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Are you expecting just to go into church and you know, just have good church and just you know, feel good?
- 33:51SPEAKER_04: You're just gonna it's gonna be a good service, the singing's gonna be good, God's gonna move a bit at altar call, and you're gonna just have a good time.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Or are you going there because you need God, because you need something, because you want to grow closer?
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: Are you actually expecting to get something out of this service or just be a spectator?
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: I think we could all of us that would heavily benefit us if we just keep that in mind and ask that question.
- 34:16SPEAKER_04: What am I expecting God to do?
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's very good.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: I think it's also important that you still ask yourself that and you still go expecting, even if you're the only one doing it.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, our services will be completely different, or even like more better and more spiritual if more better.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Are we serious?
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: More better, bro.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: It'll be more better, guys.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: Um, it could be better and like extremely spiritual if we go expecting all of us together.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Even if y'all aren't expecting, I'm gonna go expecting, even if we're expecting and no one else is, there's still going to be a change, whether it's only in us or it's in the service and and whole.
- 34:46SPEAKER_05: We shouldn't need a hype, man, like we said earlier.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: So that brings us to um our second topic.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: We could start talking about James.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: We're gonna start with James one through eight today.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: The reason we're kind of doing smaller sections for James is because James only has five chapters.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: So we're kind of gonna section it off piece by piece so that we can keep the whole thing for the whole semester.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: I mean the whole season.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: When I first initially saw James 1, 1 through 8, I thought we were doing chapters 1 through 8.
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: And I thought we were about to have the longest podcast episode ever.
- 35:33SPEAKER_05: And then it took a twist, and you saw, oh, this is eight verses.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: We're not gonna have enough for this.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: We had all the emotions for this one.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: It ends up that James is actually really deep.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: So it is, yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, y'all can start us off.
- 35:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, I really like how it just starts off in verse two, where he's like, Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: It just it starts it off on such a good bat.
- 35:59SPEAKER_04: Like he doesn't say if trials come, he says when.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: He starts it off by telling you that letting you know that trials are gonna come, yeah, no matter what.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: They're they're inevitable.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: And he kind of just tells you that it's literally in vain with what we were talking about.
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: It's up to your expectation.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's kind of up to are you just gonna go through the trial and get mad at God?
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: Or are you gonna be like, okay, I'm going to this trial, what can I learn from this?
- 36:24SPEAKER_04: What might God be trying to do?
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: Um, what miraculous thing can God do to get me out of this?
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: Um like James obviously isn't saying like the suffering, the pain's gonna feel good and it's gonna be joyful.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: But he's saying have joy in those moments.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: And he's explaining that these trials are gonna make a valuable trade out of you and that this is where your joy comes from.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Like there's a deeper joy in knowing that this isn't for nothing, that there is a reason that I'm going through this.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: True.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I'm suffering right now, but I'm gonna come out on the other side, on God's side, yeah, and he's gonna be with me, and I'm gonna persevere through this.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: And sometimes that's God testing our faith.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: It continues to say that if it goes in first three, for you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: So God's just trying to grow you when you ever go through trials.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: You're you're growing so you can be put in an area where you can help others.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Because if you go through this, then you could use that as a story and a testimony to the other people in the future going through that exact same situation or a similar situation, where then they can look at you and see that God had uh his handle in your life, so he'll have his handle in theirs as well.
- 37:26SPEAKER_04: I guarantee you, like Pastor Jared, our pastor, he had to go through a lot of growing before he became our pastor.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: He his endurance had to grow.
- 37:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, would you want a pastor who had never gone through any trials ever?
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:37SPEAKER_04: Probably not.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Actually, yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: You have better faith in me then.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Um, another verse I really liked was verse six.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: It says, But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: Wow, that has to be the longest verse in the Bible.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: It is a long single verse.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: Um It's powerful though.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Um, so Pastor Jonathan preached a message on this last Sunday, and it was called Divided Loyalties.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: And if you didn't hear it, definitely go listen to it.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Highly recommend.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: Um the cover picture might be him with a duck on him, but it's okay.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: But it's good.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, trust me.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: It's good.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: It's part of the plot.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Um, so basically, this verse is just warning us about you know being divided between asking him for help, but still wanting to trust our own ways in life.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: And Pastor Jonathan talked about double-mindedness, um, like kind of like divided loyalties, and how it creates instability in our lives because we're fighting between serving God's kingdom and you know serving our own kingdom.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: And it's important to seek his kingdom and his priorities first because we can't desire God's presence but not want to prioritize what he wants us to prioritize.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: You can't pick and choose what you're gonna listen to with God.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: And once we put you know, God's kingdom first, then we'll be stable.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: And like you were saying about the storm or about was it storms in the last verse?
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Like the storms when the storms come, trials.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Boom, it says this like the storm is still gonna remain, but if we have his kingdom first and we've we've seeked him first, then we won't be tossed by it, then we'll be stable and we'll be we'll be on a nice, like thick, floaty.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: He goes through a flow, like he he starts off by telling you we're all gonna go through trials.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: And he goes through and gets to your verse where he's like, while you're going through these trials, you better make sure that you are anchored in your faith because that's right.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: The difference uh between someone that's not, that's someone that's divided and someone that's anchored in their faith, it's gonna be the same wave.
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: It can be the same size, but one person's gonna, you know, they're gonna be fine, they're gonna make it.
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: And one person is gonna be like thrown 10 feet under the sea and they're gonna like almost drown by the same wave because you have to be anchored in faith.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: Um if you're not, if you're not anchored, every little even a gust of wind is gonna knock you off course for a bit, it's gonna turn your direction because you're constantly looking between these two sides and you're not just locked in with one.
- 39:55SPEAKER_04: So any tiny little thing is just gonna shake you up.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:58SPEAKER_04: So when when trials come, you you have to be anchored.
- 40:00SPEAKER_04: You have to know where you stand.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: You can't be divided, you can't want both sides.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Um, after verse six, verse seven, it's so Audrey, you were talking about how um in verse six.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so let's just reread verse six.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: But when you ask him, be sure your faith is in God alone, do not waver for a person with divided loyalties as an unsettled wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, the divided loyalties.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: So basically, when you are divided and unsplit and you're unstable, it in verse seven it continues to say that such people should not expect or receive anything from the Lord.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: And that is a crazy.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: So if you are split between the world, one foot in the world, one foot in um God, God's kingdom, you will be unstable and split to where God won't even give you, you won't receive anything from the Lord.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Like how what a crazy realization that is, actually.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: I get what you're saying.
- 40:53SPEAKER_04: It's like it's kind of crazy to think that uh it's kind of harsh.
- 40:57SPEAKER_04: He's just straight up telling you that, like, yeah, um, you're better off just not even trying if you're like that.
- 41:02SPEAKER_04: But in a way, it makes sense because if you're doing that, it's kind of like you're just trying to use God.
- 41:07SPEAKER_04: Like you're just like, God, please help me.
- 41:09SPEAKER_04: But you're still in the enemy's camp over there doing whatever you want.
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: But then you you look outside of the enemy's camp for a bit to be like, God, please, I promise I love you and I go to church, please help me.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: But you're still just kind of doing whatever you want.
- 41:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: So, in that in that same idea, same vein, I think it could also, in a I guess, same context or so, it can be a battle of trust in God and simply having doubt.
- 41:33SPEAKER_05: So it's really the passage kind of talks about faith also.
- 41:36SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 41:36SPEAKER_05: Like if you think about it in a different way.
- 41:38SPEAKER_05: Because you double-mindedness can be that.
- 41:41SPEAKER_05: It can be either trusting in God for some things and doubting him in others.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: Or just choosing one or the other whenever you want them.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: I think the biggest this reminds me of like being lukewarm.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: You know the verse that says, like, if you're neither hot or cold and you're sorry, Luke, um, when you're lukewarm, he's gonna spit you out of his mouth.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, it's kind of just you have to choose, are you gonna serve his kingdom or are you gonna serve yourself?
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna put your like you can't serve two masters?
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: It says that in Matthew 6.24, actually.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: No one can serve two masters.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Like, if you try, you're gonna just be unstable in everything and you're gonna get nowhere in life, and nothing's gonna get answered.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: And God can't help somebody that doesn't want to put him first.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: It's not like yes, it's the scripture is harsh in a way, but when you really think about it, God's not being harsh.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, he gives you the opportunity to have an amazing, well, okay, you'll still have trials, but an amazing God-filled life with him by your side and he is protecting you.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: Or you can do it your own way and make yourself feel good, but then go through everything bad in life.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: Like he's trying to help you, and he's like, Okay, I could either help you or not help you.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: You choose.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I like it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_04: You can choose to see the bigger picture and see that it's not all about this trial.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you could see and trust in God that God has an end goal, and wherever you end up after this trial, after the next 10 trials, you'll be a lot better of a place than you are now.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: I like that you the choose because God's not gonna force you into choosing him, he'll give you the choice to follow him or to not or to follow your own kingdom.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: And I think that's just a crazy, like such a cool thing that he's not forcing us into following him, he's letting us choose.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: And Loki, this is gonna tie together oddly, but verse one, we kind of skipped it because it's just a weird introduction of James.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: It says this letter is from James, a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and it kind of it's just in front of me.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: But God gives us the choice to follow him, and James chose to be a slave of God, and out of that he got blessings upon blessings.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: He wrote a book of the Bible, and he because all he did was choose to be a slave for God and go full in and not be divided.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's good.
- 43:44SPEAKER_05: That's really good.
- 43:45SPEAKER_05: What did y'all uh think about verse four and five about asking about wisdom?
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: It kind of reminded me of uh Proverbs a little bit.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: No, it's almost like we we talked about that for a very long time, something like for an entire season.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Just just a little talk about it, just a little chat.
- 43:59SPEAKER_05: I would like to.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: Read verse 5.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: Uh if you if you need wisdom, ask our generous God and He will give it to you.
- 44:05SPEAKER_05: He will not rebuke you for asking.
- 44:07SPEAKER_05: I think that's also something we learned a lot in, of course, Proverbs.
- 44:11SPEAKER_05: But I like that it's reiterated here because I mean, just like the same thing with double-mindedness, we could either doubt or trust that God can give us wisdom whenever he offers it.
- 44:22SPEAKER_05: I mean, we have to see it as wisdom is not just for ordained ministers or our pastor or for elders in the church.
- 44:29SPEAKER_05: It's also available to us in our youth and experience.
- 44:32SPEAKER_05: I mean, God can give us that if we pray and we church like earnestly look toward him for it.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: I mean, sure, absolutely, up your pastor is going to have wisdom about you or the congregation that you won't ever have.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: But for just you as a Christian, as a man or woman of God, God's literally telling you, hey, I want you to have wisdom.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: I want you to be able to be steadfast and have wisdom so that when these trials come, you can navigate it without being thrown way off course.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, discernment for if for what your next step should be.
- 45:02SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I really like that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: It is um James is kind of letting you know that um you should be asking for wisdom.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: It isn't like a uh maybe ask for wisdom, you know, when things get bad.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: It's like, no, you should be always asking for wisdom.
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: You should want it.
- 45:16SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: I'd like to uh kind of go back and talk about the concept of like faith needing an anchor.
- 45:22SPEAKER_04: We kind of talked about it uh earlier and how with our discussion that if you aren't like really locked in in God's camp, if you want to put it that way, if you aren't anchored in that, then um just any any little wave can knock you off course.
- 45:35SPEAKER_04: Um what that may look like for us, um, if you if you're not getting the anchor analogy, if you're not getting the wave analogy, um if what if you're in a spot where if you have a good week, you start thinking, oh God is good, I'm so on fire for God, and then you have a bad week the next week, and then all of a sudden God hates me.
- 45:54SPEAKER_04: Does God even hear me?
- 45:55SPEAKER_04: Where is God?
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: That's kind of where you're kind of wishy-washy.
- 46:00SPEAKER_04: You aren't anchored in and you aren't fully, you know, anchored.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: I just said the same thing, but you aren't anchored in the truth of who God is.
- 46:08SPEAKER_04: You're kind of letting the circumstances around you kind of depict what you think and dictate your faith.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: And it shouldn't be like that.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: That's what James is saying that um a double-minded person is kind of divided within themselves, so they don't they aren't fully set on one thing.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: It's kind of if a good thing happens, oh God is good.
- 46:25SPEAKER_04: If a bad thing happens, oh um God is good.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: Did I mess up?
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: Or is God yep.
- 46:31SPEAKER_04: I mean, he is good regardless, but that's kind of how you think if you're divided.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, imagine if like like Paul did that, like, or was just thinking, like being double-minded, kind of in that sense.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: Like, Paul was in jail writing letters and still serving God.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Like, no matter what, like the Bible says, count it all joy.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Like, no matter what trials you go through, no matter what's really happening, what you're suffering with, what your pain is, count it all joy because it you will come out on the other side and you're gonna learn from it.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like my point of bringing that all up is is just to say, ask yourself, like, is my view of God based on who he is, or is it what is happening to me right now?
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: It shouldn't ever be the latter.
- 47:10SPEAKER_04: Your your faith and your view of God should always be on who he is because we're all gonna go through stuff.
- 47:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and that's kind of one part of what the verse is highlighting.
- 47:19SPEAKER_04: If you're only basing your faith in God off of what's going on in your life right now, every single day, every moment, then you're gonna be wishy-washy because we're all gonna go through good and bad times.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: That's really good.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: Like have unwavering faith.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: And the trials that you go through, they can expose where your faith isn't anchored.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Um, it's like it's just so crazy.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: That's exactly it's just exactly what it's exactly what it might be exactly.
- 47:47SPEAKER_04: Almost like we all read the same verse.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just crazy.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: It just says it in such a complicated way.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: You just broke it down well.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: Not a complicated way, but it takes like you broke it down well.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm saying.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Thanks, man.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 48:00SPEAKER_05: Uh I want to kind of go back to the testing of faith.
- 48:03SPEAKER_05: I really, really like that, that uh portion of James.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Wait, which verse is that?
- 48:08SPEAKER_05: Uh let's see.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: Uh verse three.
- 48:11SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 48:11SPEAKER_05: Verse three.
- 48:12SPEAKER_05: I'll read it again.
- 48:13SPEAKER_05: For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
- 48:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 48:17SPEAKER_05: I think this is uh this is very good.
- 48:20SPEAKER_05: We must go through tests.
- 48:21SPEAKER_05: There's no other way to develop, to grow, to expand our horizon and be strong enough to be others' strength.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: Because if we want to witness to others and we do not master what we're witnessing them or what we're witnessing to them, yeah.
- 48:37SPEAKER_05: Then how are we gonna do it?
- 48:38SPEAKER_05: God has to put us through some things for us to master them, to for us to have experience, to be able to do what he's called us to do, to to go do those things and spread the gospel.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, for you to be able to speak with certainty and in a way authority because you've been through that and God has led you through that, so you can help someone else because you know what it's like.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_05: And that that goes in.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say, um, that also goes into spiritual maturity.
- 49:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, because we have to understand that that God's gonna master some things for us.
- 49:08SPEAKER_05: We won't have to deal with them.
- 49:10SPEAKER_05: But there are also some things that through us and in us we're gonna have to work on, and God's gonna have to master those through us doing it.
- 49:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:18SPEAKER_05: He can't do everything for us, which he could, but there are some things we must cover.
- 49:22SPEAKER_05: Then we wouldn't grow.
- 49:23SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 49:23SPEAKER_05: And that's not what God wants.
- 49:24SPEAKER_05: He wants the best for us.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and verse four continued on by saying, So let it grow for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: And I think in in a sense, it's not meaning needing nothing by you, don't you won't you'll be perfect and complete, and you won't need God, and you won't need anything.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: It's more so you'll feel you'll feel confident enough to go out and not have to prepare everything, but you'll be able to spot like on the spot witness to somebody because you've been through a something that may be helping that person in that moment, and you will be fully developed after that trial to have then helped them needing nothing.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because it's kind of like once you're built up to such a point, you won't need anything else to know who God is.
- 50:03SPEAKER_04: You won't need anything else to have that faith in God.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: From that on, like when it's saying your faith is complete, I take that as I my faith is so strong now, and God has done so much in me that when I go through trials now, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna stand or fold or get twisted around.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: It's gonna suck, yeah.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: And I'm gonna go through some stuff.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: But yeah, um, I'm gonna stay steadfast.
- 50:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's not gonna throw me off.
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: When you're going through life, whenever you're witnessing to people, you're gonna stay where you're unwavering emotionally, spiritually.
- 50:37SPEAKER_05: You just you're gonna know what you need to do.
- 50:39SPEAKER_05: You've gone through enough, you know, you have that wisdom and that experience that you need.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: And unfortunately, the only way to get there is to go through stuff.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: So we all gotta do it.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:50SPEAKER_05: I really like uh verse five.
- 50:52SPEAKER_05: I'll keep circling back to that.
- 50:53SPEAKER_05: I just found a a lot from it.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: There's this portion of the scripture that says he will not rebuke you for asking, referencing wisdom.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: Well, a different version, uh, King James says, abrateth not.
- 51:04SPEAKER_05: Now that that sounds pretty crazy.
- 51:07SPEAKER_05: Break that down for me.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: But basically what it means is it he does not scold or reprimand.
- 51:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_05: And I kind of wondered why, why is this word here?
- 51:14SPEAKER_05: Why is this weird word I've never read before in the Bible in this verse right here?
- 51:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: And uh I think it's there because when we ask for riches or fame or worldly things like Solomon could have asked for, that would be probably something that God could scold or look down on in like in a negative way, and that it could lead to temptation, it could lead to like personal gain and it just like get your mind and your and yourself into like a self-serving sense, you know.
- 51:42SPEAKER_05: And that could lead you to temptation and just not eternal life, you know.
- 51:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 51:46SPEAKER_05: So I think it's interesting he said that there because wisdom is something you can ask of God that is all his, he is wisdom, but that he's willing to freely give.
- 51:57SPEAKER_05: Whereas other things in this life, like like wisdom will not tempt you, wisdom will not break you down.
- 52:02SPEAKER_05: Wisdom has basically, I don't think this may be a little bit too crazy to say, but no way of bringing you down.
- 52:09SPEAKER_05: It only advances you, it only truly helps you grow in your life and reaching others and whatever your goals are with God.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can't go wrong having too much wisdom, like you can't have too much wisdom.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: Right, yeah, right.
- 52:21SPEAKER_05: So you ask for it.
- 52:22SPEAKER_05: Even once you you feel like God has gifted you with it, ask more.
- 52:25SPEAKER_05: Keep keep on with that.
- 52:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's important because it's like like you just said, and I think we mentioned earlier that God wants you to ask for it.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: That's why it's he's a James of saying that you're not gonna be rebuked.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: Because God wants you to ask for it.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, why would God not want you to have wisdom?
- 52:42SPEAKER_04: Think about it.
- 52:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's right.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, he wrote a there's a whole book in the Bible about it, and now we're talking about it again in the New Testament.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, why would he not want you to ask for wisdom?
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Unless it's reverse psychology.
- 52:56SPEAKER_04: Did God write the New Testament with reverse psychology?
- 53:00SPEAKER_04: We should ask Pastor, don't ask us, we don't know.
- 53:06SPEAKER_04: But alright, I think we I think we got all of our thoughts out of it.
- 53:08SPEAKER_04: We we we had a good discussion.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: Um I was really excited to to be back and do this.
- 53:13SPEAKER_04: Um hope we didn't talk your ears off.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: Um, we did get a lot out of the eight verses of James.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: It didn't end up being like, well, here's eight verses and that's it.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: We juiced that woman.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: Funny saying orange.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: We juiced that guys, we did it.
- 53:32SPEAKER_04: But um, but yeah, going back to Pastor Jared's meth message, I mean, if you take anything from it, one, I'll tell you to go listen to it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_04: It was really good.
- 53:42SPEAKER_04: But if you if you don't want to do that, if you're gonna take anything, just look at your expectations.
- 53:47SPEAKER_04: Really ask yourself, what am I expecting God to do in any situation?
- 53:51SPEAKER_04: Not just church on Sunday, church on Wednesday.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Every single day, what am I expecting God to do today?
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, what am I expecting him to do for me in me, in my family?
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Fill in the blank.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: What am I expecting?
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, really ask yourself that question.
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: If you really truly internalize that, I think you'll get um you'll get a lot more out of God than you could have got without that.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Just posting through.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: And then through James, we did talk about a lot of James, but just know that James opens up by telling you that trials are inevitable.
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: You're gonna go through stuff whether you are the most sinful person in the world or the most spiritual uh monk in the world.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: You're gonna go through, you're gonna go through things.
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: No matter what.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: And James is just letting you know that you gotta have the right mindset.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: You go through trials, let it count for your good.
- 54:40SPEAKER_04: Let it let it build you and grow you, and let God use those trials for your good.
- 54:44SPEAKER_04: It's it's gonna be hard.
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: For some, you go through a lot darker trials, a lot harder trials, but know that in the end, God has it all in control, and you have no idea what's in store for you at the end.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: So keep on persevering.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: Don't let these trials bog you down.
- 55:00SPEAKER_04: Ask for wisdom.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Um, Luke wants you to ask for wisdom a lot.
- 55:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you better ask for wisdom and do it now.
- 55:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:07SPEAKER_04: Do it right now.
- 55:08SPEAKER_04: Don't even pause right now and ask for wisdom.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, um, I suck it.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: Everything you said, Hudson.
- 55:14SPEAKER_02: And I thank you guys so much for listening to the podcast.
