- Spain lifts the Cup! This is The Sports Reset for Monday, July 20th. In the World Cup final, Spain beat Argentina 1 to 0 at MetLife Stadium to win its second men’s World Cup title. Ferran Torres supplied the moment, finishing in extra time after Argentina had been reduced to 10 men. Lionel Messi and Argentina could not find a shot on target, so Spain’s control was not just cosmetic; it shaped the whole final. In golf, Ryan Fox won The Open at 10 under, one ahead of Cameron Young, after a birdie on 18 capped a huge weekend comeback at Royal Birkdale. Stefano Mazzoli also won the Corales Puntacana Championship at 20 under. In F1, Kimi Antonelli took the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. In tennis, Andrey Rublev won the Nordea Open in straight sets, Stefanos Tsitsipas took Gstaad in three, and Barbora Krejcikova beat Maria Sakkari for the Athens title. Looking ahead, in MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers go straight from that split doubleheader in the Bronx into Philadelphia to face the Philadelphia Phillies, with Shohei Ohtani coming off a two-RBI opener against New York and the Dodgers still carrying one of baseball’s most dangerous lineups. The Jays are back at Rogers Centre against the Tampa Bay Rays after being shut out by the Chicago White Sox, so the focus is on whether Toronto can get the bats moving again. The New York Yankees host the Pittsburgh Pirates after Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s late homer helped salvage Sunday night, while the San Diego Padres visit the Atlanta Braves after putting up 19 in Kansas City. This week also brings the 3M Open on the PGA Tour, and the Dodgers’ road swing continues with more star power in Philadelphia.
