Transcript
- 0:00Chapter 30 of Jeremiah and it's titled in my study Bible the
- 0:07Restoration of Israel. And I'm going to point out some
- 0:12things because I don't believe this has happened yet.
- 0:15I think this is coming up in in the future and as a reminder of
- 0:21why we read the scripture. As Second Timothy chapter 3
- 0:25states, all scripture is God breathed and is useful for
- 0:29teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so
- 0:34that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
- 0:38good work. And in Romans chapter 10 verse
- 0:4317. Consequently, faith comes from
- 0:46hearing the message, and the message is heard through the
- 0:50word about Christ. Now, even though Jesus is not
- 0:54specifically named here in this chapter and the next chapter, I
- 1:00see it pointing to Jesus, pointing us towards Jesus.
- 1:05So I will comment on that when I get to those parts.
- 1:09So let's get started. Dear Lord, please be with us and
- 1:15let the Holy Spirit open our eyes and ears so that we can
- 1:19understand this word that you gave Jeremiah.
- 1:23We ask this in Jesus name, Amen. This is the word that came to
- 1:30Jeremiah from the Lord. This is what the Lord the God of
- 1:35Israel says. Write in a book all the words I
- 1:40have spoken to you. So God wants everyone to know
- 1:46this because this is important. He's saying write this down,
- 1:51this is something so that another hint maybe that this is
- 1:56for the future and it wasn't for Jeremiah's immediate future, but
- 2:01long term future. Because either it could be like
- 2:05history that he wanted to be documented or it could be
- 2:10beneficial for future generations.
- 2:13And that's what I think it tends to be.
- 2:16So it says the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will
- 2:20bring my people, Israel and Judah back from captivity and
- 2:25restore them to the land I gave their ancestors to possess, says
- 2:30the Lord. Now a lot of people might say
- 2:33that was in what, 1948? Is it 1948 or 1967 when Israel,
- 2:42I think it's 1948 when Israel became a nation.
- 2:46I should have looked that up. But a lot of people might say
- 2:49that. But when we get into some of the
- 2:52specifics that are talked about here, I don't believe that this
- 2:58has been fulfilled yet. This is still future to come and
- 3:01I'll point those out. So these are the words the Lord
- 3:04spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
- 3:06This is what the Lord says. Cries of fear are heard, terror,
- 3:12not peace. So because of all of these words
- 3:19that Jeremiah received from the Lord, this particular one
- 3:24doesn't say what year this word came to him.
- 3:29We know that Jeremiah stayed back in the land of in
- 3:35Jerusalem. He did not go.
- 3:37He chose to stay even though he knew that he would either die of
- 3:41sword, famine, or plague from staying there because that's
- 3:45what God said would happen to anyone who stayed there.
- 3:48So we're not really sure when these words came according to
- 3:54what's written here. Like I don't have that
- 3:57information, but sometime during his life and his life, let's
- 4:02see, let's go back to I have to go back to the beginning of my
- 4:06study Bible chapter because it gives me ranges of when things
- 4:11happened. So Jeremiah's ministry in Judah
- 4:14was from 5 or 626 to 585 BC. So we know that that and it says
- 4:24the fall of Jerusalem was in 586 BC.
- 4:29So a year after Jerusalem fell, Jeremiah's ministry ended and
- 4:37the book of Jeremiah was written around that year.
- 4:41And it says or, you know, as far back as 5 or 585 to 580 BC is
- 4:49when this was all, I guess compilated.
- 4:52And OK, let's go back to. So Jeremiah is saying cries of
- 4:58fear are heard, terror, not peace.
- 5:01Of course, that could be when the Babylonians are capturing
- 5:04the people. That could be it.
- 5:07But I really think this is more so because remember also God
- 5:11said if you go in captivity, your life will be spared.
- 5:17So to me, you know, there might be fear in that, but also God
- 5:27already said that they were going to keep their lives and
- 5:30they could go marry and have children and, you know, make the
- 5:34city prosper and all of this. Like God is saying, you know, go
- 5:38live in the land. I'm sending you there because of
- 5:40your sin, but go live in that land and do all the normal
- 5:45things that you would do. So that to me doesn't sound like
- 5:48this. Cries of fear, terror, not
- 5:51peace. This sounds like another event,
- 5:55which I think is a future thing. And he says, can a mayor, can a
- 5:59man bear children? Then why do I see every strong
- 6:04man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor,
- 6:09every face turned deathly pale. Now that's pretty severe.
- 6:16And this, you know, woman in labor very often, you know, it
- 6:23does, it does talk about pains like the woman of Labor.
- 6:26And that's often used to describe the last days, the last
- 6:32days of this age. Life continues on afterwards.
- 6:36But there's this age, there's this period, if you want to call
- 6:40it, that's probably a better terminology, is a period of time
- 6:45where the end of this segment of time where that's how it's going
- 6:50to end is going to be these horrible pains that come upon
- 6:56people who are present at the time of this, this final period.
- 7:04And but there's a restoration that follows it.
- 7:06So that's the that's the hope and the promise.
- 7:09The promise that God made is that this is what is going to
- 7:13happen. But there's a restoration behind
- 7:16it. So beyond it.
- 7:18So just get through it. Even if you lose your life, you
- 7:22will gain it. So it's not anything to truly
- 7:27fear, but just know that this is coming up.
- 7:32So the study Bible says, why compare these troubles to
- 7:35childbearing? Childbearing is a common
- 7:37metaphor for the anguish of judgment in the book of Jeremiah
- 7:42and in other prophetic literature as well.
- 7:46The pain of a woman in childbirth is one of the extreme
- 7:49is 1 of extreme distress and anxiety.
- 7:52However, in this analogy, the extreme nature of the judgement
- 7:57is captured with the unexpected image of men being doubled over
- 8:02with the kind of distress experienced in childbearing.
- 8:06And men just don't have that benefit of No, I don't.
- 8:10I don't know if it's a benefit, but they don't have that.
- 8:14They have never been there before.
- 8:16They have not experienced childbirth.
- 8:19And speaking from someone who has had childbirth, I can tell
- 8:23you that it is the most severe pain and I have a very high pain
- 8:28tolerance that anyone would ever have.
- 8:34I know before I had the epidural, it was so intense.
- 8:39I I just can't even, I couldn't even imagine it continuing long
- 8:45like I really wanted. And I know there are people who
- 8:47do natural childbirth and boy, I commend them.
- 8:50I don't know if it gets any better or if then the epidural
- 8:54actually makes it worse, but numbs the.
- 8:58I don't know. I don't know.
- 8:59But I can just tell you that it's just an unexpected, like
- 9:03tightening. And it is the most pain that
- 9:07I've ever experienced from any anything.
- 9:11It's like, yeah, it's I can't even, I mean, I've had surgery
- 9:16before. It doesn't even like match up to
- 9:19that. It's it's worse than that.
- 9:22And and so people who have not experienced that don't really
- 9:27comprehend this severe pain that comes along with it.
- 9:32But God is so kind and merciful and how he created us that once
- 9:40we get past that, we completely forget that pain.
- 9:44And that is almost like the what the Kingdom of God's going to be
- 9:48like. That when we finally transition
- 9:51between this terrible pain that's going to be coming on to
- 9:55the world and we get into the Kingdom of God, we're going to
- 9:58forget about all of it. It even says it in Scripture
- 10:01that you will not remember these things.
- 10:03And that's what happens when a woman goes through childbirth.
- 10:07It's it's really painful, but then when that baby comes, you
- 10:11forget all about it. You just like you have so much
- 10:14joy from the baby that it doesn't, you know, it just you
- 10:19forget about it. And then like even now me trying
- 10:22to remember the pain, I really can't.
- 10:25I remember it was painful, but I can't remember the actual pain
- 10:30of it, if that makes sense. Anyway, going back to scripture,
- 10:34how awful that day will be. No other will be like like it.
- 10:39It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out
- 10:45of it. Now this is really insightful.
- 10:49How awful that day. No other will be like it.
- 10:53Now this is the this is how the coming of the Lord, the return
- 10:57of Jesus is described. And it talks about, well, it
- 11:02talks about the time of tribulation, the great
- 11:06tribulation that will come upon the whole earth and it will be
- 11:13worse. This is what Jesus said in
- 11:15Matthew chapter 24. It'll be worse than anything
- 11:20we've ever experienced before. The earth, the world has ever
- 11:23experienced, and it will never, ever be experienced like it
- 11:28again. So this lines up with the great
- 11:34tribulation. How awful that day will be.
- 11:38No other will be like it. So all the war, world wars that
- 11:45have happened in this world, there's still going to be
- 11:48nothing like this one that's coming.
- 11:52Talk about like the preparation, like mentally to prepare your
- 11:56mind for this. Transitioned into God's Kingdom
- 12:01is something that I think we need to know.
- 12:03So we don't. If if we are the ones who are
- 12:07present at this time, then we need to remember the restoration
- 12:13that comes following it and remember that our souls are
- 12:18eternal and the only thing that matters is where our eternal
- 12:26soul will reside. And our soul will not be
- 12:31separated from our bodies forever because when Jesus
- 12:35returns, we will be changed in an instant and we will be given
- 12:42immortal bodies. Those who believe in Jesus will
- 12:46so we will have bodies, we will be doing things, we're going to
- 12:50experience what we experienced. Now let's see, Let me clarify
- 12:55that we it's we will be different.
- 12:59We don't really know fully how different we will be says we
- 13:03will be like Jesus. So Jesus is an example.
- 13:07If we read about what he was like when he returned, well,
- 13:12let's see, not returned When he resurrected, resurrected from
- 13:16the dead, he was able to appear in a room that had all the doors
- 13:22locked so you could kind of transport.
- 13:25And if we're going to be like Jesus, that means we probably
- 13:28will be able to do that. He also ate with people.
- 13:33So he had a physical body and he ate food, and that happened with
- 13:39people after his resurrection. So we will be eating.
- 13:44He walked, He did all the things that he did before, but there
- 13:50was something a little bit different about him.
- 13:52And that something a little bit different is what we really
- 13:55don't comprehend. Only those maybe who saw Jesus
- 13:59can comprehend it, but we only know what's in the Bible.
- 14:03And the Bible gives us a little bit of information, but not a
- 14:07lot about it. So what we do know is that we
- 14:10will be changed because we, you know, it's our sinfulness that
- 14:15will go away. Those who have prepared
- 14:17themselves, when Jesus returns, it says those who are dead, who
- 14:23were believers, they will rise to receive their immortal
- 14:28bodies. And then those who are alive on
- 14:31earth at that time will also be gathered to Jesus.
- 14:37So this is really important. It has to do with salvation of
- 14:42being prepared. And Jesus said, first of all,
- 14:46you know, we have to believe in Jesus.
- 14:50We have to believe in his resurrection from the dead
- 14:54because that was, that's the only way.
- 14:58And we'll get into this in this chapter.
- 15:01That is the only way that we, that it was became possible for
- 15:06us to be in God's Kingdom, because God is holy and sin
- 15:12cannot be in the presence of God or it will be, AI guess,
- 15:17exterminated, destroyed. And so therefore we have to be
- 15:24made holy and we only get made holy when we receive the Holy
- 15:30Spirit and we only received the Holy Spirit from Jesus.
- 15:35He said he receives the Spirit from the Father and gives it to
- 15:38us. If we so Jesus is the way, the
- 15:43truth of the law and the life, and no one comes to the Father
- 15:48except through him. So in multiple ways, his death
- 15:53on the cross gives us that permanent.
- 15:57Let's see that forever, that everlasting atonement, that was
- 16:03the only sacrifice that that remained.
- 16:06I mean, that's the only that remains forever for our
- 16:09atonement, for our forgiveness. So he made it possible.
- 16:13Every one of us has the means to access the Kingdom of God
- 16:20because of Jesus. But Jesus said we must be born
- 16:25of the Spirit also. So we need the Holy Spirit from
- 16:29the Father who Jesus gives to us.
- 16:34He gave it to his disciples. He promised this to his
- 16:36disciples. And the Spirit of God is what
- 16:42changes us and what enables us to do the supernatural thing of
- 16:49actually connecting with Jesus when he returns and having our
- 16:56bodies changed. It's the Spirit of God that does
- 16:59it. It's the same Spirit that rose
- 17:01Jesus from the dead that will raise us living and dead.
- 17:07And so that's why Jesus said you must be born again.
- 17:10You must be a new creation, you born of the Spirit.
- 17:16So it's so important for us to know that having the Holy Spirit
- 17:22is critical for us to be in eternity with God.
- 17:27And if we wonder if we have the Holy Spirit, there's usually a
- 17:32not usually they're always is a changed life in some manner.
- 17:37People don't instantly change and all of a sudden become 100%
- 17:41good. That doesn't happen.
- 17:43But there is this process that people go through where they
- 17:47start becoming more like Jesus, more followed.
- 17:51It's when a life is surrendered to Jesus and, and you want God
- 17:57to guide you and you are submitted, submitted to the Holy
- 18:02Spirit. So you want the Holy Spirit's
- 18:05guidance in your life and you can see evidence of it by
- 18:11change. And I always refer to Galatians
- 18:15chapter 5 because it gives examples of when you live like
- 18:18the world. This is how you act when you
- 18:21live by the Spirit. These are the, the character,
- 18:27the, the way that people act who have the Holy Spirit.
- 18:32So to me, that's a way that you can look at yourself and say
- 18:38read chapter 5. How do how is my life?
- 18:42My life is the evidence of do I have the Holy Spirit or do I not
- 18:47have the Holy Spirit? And if there's no evidence of
- 18:50the Holy Spirit, then the next step would be repent, turn to
- 18:55God and ask God for the Holy Spirit, ask Jesus for the Holy
- 19:00Spirit, ask for forgiveness. Because anyone who is truly
- 19:06repentant, who truly wants to be changed and to become like Jesus
- 19:13and to be in eternity with God, God is merciful, forgiving,
- 19:18loving, kind, all those things. So he will, He promises the Holy
- 19:24Spirit to people, those who submit to him who are decide
- 19:31that I'm going to be obedient to you, God.
- 19:34I don't want to be rebellious to you forever.
- 19:36I want to change. I want to be in obedience to
- 19:41you. That's basically that's how we
- 19:43show God love is by our obedience to Him.
- 19:47That's how God knows that we love Him is from our obedience.
- 19:50If we stay in rebellion, we're considered an enemy of God, and
- 19:54that's not a good place to be because an enemy of God is
- 19:57subject to His wrath. So we give choices in our life.
- 20:03God's not going to force us to follow Him.
- 20:05God's not going to force us to love him.
- 20:07It's a personal choice. We just have to make that
- 20:10decision and the time is now to make the decision because every
- 20:16day that slips away that you don't make that decision.
- 20:20What if Jesus decided to return and you weren't prepared and
- 20:27then you had to go through God's wrath and live through that?
- 20:33It's just something to really get serious about in your life.
- 20:38If you as soon as you get prepared in that way, like
- 20:42having the Holy Spirit, there's nothing else to fear because
- 20:45you're good, you're good with God.
- 20:46Just stay with God, you know, never, never turn from him.
- 20:53And staying in the word of God helps us stay close to God.
- 20:58OK, so let's get back to the we're only on verse 7.
- 21:03So it will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved
- 21:07out of it. Now Jacob is Israel and this is
- 21:11where I've heard Jacob's trouble.
- 21:14And it says the study Bible says when was when was this time of
- 21:18trouble for Jacob? This trouble, according to some
- 21:22suggests Israel's defeat and exile.
- 21:26Others say it is still a future event, sometimes called the Day
- 21:31of the Lord, a time when Israel will undergo severe discipline
- 21:37before final and complete restoration.
- 21:40That's exactly what we were just talking about.
- 21:43Such deliverance can occur only when history has run its course.
- 21:48So the next line, which is verse 8 says in that day, so the day
- 21:54of the Lord. If you look at any prophecy that
- 21:57talks about when God's, when God's judgment comes, it is that
- 22:04final day, the day when Jesus returns.
- 22:07There's a lot of that would be a good study to search in an
- 22:11electronic digital version of a Bible.
- 22:14Search the day of the Lord and see everything it describes
- 22:19because this is about the return of Jesus and it says in that day
- 22:24declares the Lord Almighty, I will break the yoke off their
- 22:28necks and will tear off their bonds.
- 22:31No longer will foreigners enslave them.
- 22:35Instead they will serve the Lord their God and David their King
- 22:41whom I will raise up for them. Now this is really interesting
- 22:45and a point to ponder because, you know, in this, in studying
- 22:51the Bible, we can see that he uses the name Jacob for Israel.
- 22:56And there are, you know, analogies or because Jacob's
- 23:00name was changed to Israel. And so there, it's almost like,
- 23:09I don't know, it's not symbolism, but we have to know
- 23:14that Jacob's name. So we know he's not talking
- 23:17about a specific person, but he's talking about Israel in
- 23:20this to Jeremiah. The Lord is talking to Jeremiah
- 23:24about Israel now. So in that day I will break the
- 23:30yoke. Jesus's return, He will, he's,
- 23:35you know, at all the nations, according to other prophecy, all
- 23:39the nations are going to surround Israel, and that's when
- 23:42Jesus will return to defend Israel.
- 23:46And this, that's what's written in prophecy.
- 23:50So this supports that. In that day He will break off
- 23:54the yoke off their necks and no longer will foreigners enslave
- 23:59them. There's not going to be any more
- 24:01October 7th, 2020 threes after Jesus returns.
- 24:06Instead they will serve the Lord their God and David their King,
- 24:10whom I will raise up for them. Now this is really interesting.
- 24:14Think about this and David their king.
- 24:17So we don't. Israel doesn't have any kings
- 24:20right now and he's saying that David their king, whom I will
- 24:26raise up for them. Now is this a literal meaning?
- 24:30And because when Jesus returns, the dead in Christ will rise
- 24:35first, then all who remain will come after that will will be
- 24:41changed and will also ascend to meet him in the clouds.
- 24:46So this is something to think about because David, he was a
- 24:54king a long, long, long time ago before this, because all these
- 24:58kings came after David. So he was, he was the second
- 25:03king. Basically it was first it was
- 25:05Saul, then David and then Solomon and then after Solomon
- 25:09died are I guess it was when he died.
- 25:13Then there were there was a division between the northern
- 25:16and the southern part of Israel and they had parallel kings
- 25:20happening and the northern tribe of Israel, it was the 10 tribes.
- 25:25They rebelled worse, I guess than the southern ones and they
- 25:32were taken over by Assyria, I believe.
- 25:37And that happened first the fall of of Jerusalem, I think it was
- 25:43that happened first. Then the the next one to be to
- 25:51fall was Judah and they were obviously taken but into
- 25:58Babylon. But they their, their Kingdom
- 26:03lasted longer than the northern Kingdom.
- 26:07And there my study Bible has a really nice timeline that shows
- 26:12those. I'll have to see how many kinks
- 26:14there were. There were a total of 18 kings
- 26:18and they were all evil. In the northern, the 10 tribes,
- 26:24there was a disagreement about who was going to be king after
- 26:28Solomon's death, and that's what caused the separation of the
- 26:30tribes or the division of the tribes.
- 26:33And then there were 19 total kings for the southern tribe.
- 26:41Now this is like I said, there were all of them were comment in
- 26:47the IT was commented about every king in the northern 10 tribes
- 26:51of Israel, the kings that reigned over them, they were all
- 26:54evil, every single one of them except for one.
- 26:57He was mixed because he actually did what God wanted him to do
- 27:03and he destroyed Ahab's family. So Ahab was a very evil ruler, a
- 27:08king. He was Ahab and Jezebel, which
- 27:11you may have heard of and and so he was the servant of God in
- 27:16that way where he destroyed Ahab and that his family and that was
- 27:23like also to fulfill prophecy that was given.
- 27:28Now the southern tribe had 19 and almost half of them were
- 27:33good and then the other half were evil.
- 27:36So they were there were eight that were called good in that
- 27:43time and Jeremiah was prophesying during Josiah.
- 27:48He was one of the good. He was kind of the last good
- 27:51king. He had found the all of what was
- 27:56written down the book of law, I believe, and realized that they
- 28:00had not been following it. And there was this like, I guess
- 28:06a revival in, in his time where people turn to the Lord and they
- 28:13said, oh, we're going to follow, We're going to do all these
- 28:15things. But that didn't last long
- 28:18because after him there were 1234 different kings, some for
- 28:25just a few months, and they were all evil.
- 28:28And so God, he appoints kings and he takes them away.
- 28:34And so he, he ended it because of their sinfulness.
- 28:38We see throughout the Scripture that it's their sinfulness that
- 28:42caused all this destruction. So getting back again to
- 28:45Scripture, instead they will serve the Lord their God and
- 28:49David their King, whom I will raise up for them.
- 28:52So I kind of think it might be a literal resurrection because
- 28:56that's the resurrection when Jesus returns and comes on the
- 29:00clouds, that is the resurrection.
- 29:03All people we'll see and David their king, whom I will raise up
- 29:13for them. So is David going to be king
- 29:16again? I kind of think he might be in
- 29:20the I think it's Ezekiel in the latter chapters and I can't
- 29:24remember which ones, but like from maybe you know, the ending
- 29:2938 through out of 40 something or the end chapters.
- 29:33But when it talks about the temple, the future temple, it
- 29:39talks about the Prince. And I think it's probably it
- 29:44might be David because of other scripture.
- 29:47And I wrote it in my study Bible where I found that Scripture.
- 29:51But the Prince meets with the Messiah apparently in there, and
- 29:58the Prince does sacrifices. And for the atonement, I don't.
- 30:04Yeah, it's kind of, I don't. It's not really for the
- 30:07atonement because Jesus's atonement was what was, you
- 30:12know, that's all that was needed.
- 30:14But I don't really know what these sacrifices are for.
- 30:18But there is someone. And I do wonder if it is this is
- 30:23speculation on my part. However, I do think there is
- 30:26scripture that also does make it seem like it's, it's David
- 30:31because it talks about this Prince who offers us up for his
- 30:36sins. So maybe these are just like the
- 30:42way the history of how the Jewish people had this, this
- 30:46seems to be like it's going to happen during the millennial
- 30:50time period. And I just, you know, some of
- 30:52these timing things are really confusing because and I the
- 30:56purpose, the purpose of this millennial, the 1000 years where
- 31:01Jesus reigns on earth. It says in other parts of
- 31:05prophecy that we will go there to Jerusalem so that we will be
- 31:10the he will teach us his ways. So it sounds like it's a
- 31:15teaching process, a learning process after the recognition of
- 31:20Jesus because Jesus has been rejected prior to.
- 31:23So maybe this is like a culmination of all of the Old
- 31:27Testament history that they had and relating it to like tying it
- 31:32to the to Jesus. I'm not sure, but we will just
- 31:37have to wait and see how this all ends up.
- 31:41But this is what Jeremiah heard from the Lord said.
- 31:44Do not be afraid Jacob, my servant, do not be dismayed.
- 31:48Israel declares the Lord. So God claimed Israel.
- 31:54They were a they were in slavery.
- 31:57He took them out of bondage. He claimed them a long time ago.
- 32:01He chose the people of Israel. He chose Abraham and he decided
- 32:08who it was Abraham and then Isaac and then Jacob.
- 32:15This the the promise, the covenant processed.
- 32:18And you can find that when you study the Old Testament, you
- 32:22will see how it transferred. First it was with Abraham, then
- 32:27it went to his son Isaac, then it went to his his son Jacob.
- 32:34And there were, you know, other people that were in the mix, but
- 32:38this was how it transitioned. And God affirmed, reaffirmed the
- 32:42covenant, the promise with those people.
- 32:46And it's all documented in the Bible.
- 32:51I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants
- 32:56from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and
- 33:01security, and no one will make him afraid.
- 33:05Now this has not happened yet and I think this is where some
- 33:09confusions going to come in because of this Abraham Accords
- 33:13that is in process right now. People are all in peace and
- 33:17security and the worldly nations who don't know God believe that
- 33:24we will have this peace and security, but they don't know
- 33:29Bible prophecy. So they don't know that what
- 33:32Bible prophecy says when everyone thinks it's peace and
- 33:35security, then will come sudden destruction.
- 33:39So people are going to be surprised.
- 33:42Jesus said there's going to be wars and rumors of war, wars all
- 33:46the way until the end. So we will not have peace and
- 33:51security, not until Jesus returns.
- 33:55Then it will be. But Jesus has not returned yet,
- 33:59and so we have to wait for that. But until then we just need to
- 34:05endure and remain in Him spiritually.
- 34:10I am with you and will save you, declares the Lord, though I
- 34:17completely destroy all nations, among which I scatter you.
- 34:23So again, this is just not about Babylon.
- 34:25This is about all nations among which I scatter you and people
- 34:31are scattered because they were disobedient to the Lord.
- 34:34So he sends them into other nations.
- 34:38I will and he says I will not completely just completely
- 34:42destroy you. I will discipline you, but only
- 34:46in due measure. I will not let you go entirely
- 34:51unpunished. So there's there are
- 34:54consequences for actions and he's like he's saying, I'm not
- 35:00going to completely destroy you, but I'm not going to let you go
- 35:04without the consequences of what you've done.
- 35:07They worshipped other gods and this was the one thing the the
- 35:12first commandment, you know, to love the Lord your God and have
- 35:15no other gods before you. And they broke that and when God
- 35:20was promising them everything, but yet they chose to be
- 35:26influenced by the world around them and follow what the world
- 35:31around them was doing. So why does God discipline His
- 35:35people? The idea of discipline in due
- 35:38measure can be found throughout Scripture.
- 35:41God's discipline of His people brings about restoration,
- 35:46character, and godliness. God's discipline of unbelievers
- 35:50results in destruction, banishment and suffering for
- 35:56God's people. Mercy ultimately triumphs over
- 36:00judgement because God's justice has been satisfied through the
- 36:04one time sacrifice of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
- 36:09Hebrews chapter 10 verse 10. Now here's something interesting
- 36:15statement. Your wound is incurable, your
- 36:19injury beyond healing. So your wound is incurable, You
- 36:27can't do anything about it. Your injury is beyond healing.
- 36:31They can't be healed, but God restores.
- 36:34How is that? Well, my opinion about that is
- 36:38because they don't know Jesus. They don't believe in Jesus as
- 36:45the Son of God. So at this time, I mean, when
- 36:49Jeremiah is talking about it, Jesus hadn't even been there
- 36:53yet. But again, I'm believing that
- 36:57this is actually about the future.
- 37:00So Jesus has been here, Jesus resurrected.
- 37:03I think this is a message to the the people of Israel today that
- 37:09your wound is incurable and your injury beyond healing.
- 37:12There's nothing they can't do sacrifices to get right with
- 37:16God. They it's beyond healing, like
- 37:20there's nothing they can do. And anyone who comes to Christ
- 37:24realizes there's nothing that we can do to make ourselves holy.
- 37:30We are naturally drawn to sin. The only way that we can become
- 37:35holy in the likeness of God, in the likeness of Jesus is through
- 37:42the Holy Spirit actually guiding us in our life.
- 37:46When we actually let the Lord be Lord over our life and become
- 37:51obedient to Him. When we surrender our free will
- 37:56to let Him guide us and have our mind set on doing what God would
- 38:02want us to do. So the wound is incurable, your
- 38:07injury beyond healing. Because they don't know Jesus
- 38:10and Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
- 38:13No one comes to the Father except through Him.
- 38:17There is no one to plead your cause.
- 38:20Like Jesus is the mediator for us.
- 38:22If they don't believe in Jesus, this is the future again that
- 38:25we're talking about. If they're not relying on Jesus
- 38:28to plead their case, they don't have anybody supporting them.
- 38:33So therefore they could be. They are bound to destruction,
- 38:37however, So there there is no one to plead your cause, no
- 38:42remedy for your sword, no healing for you.
- 38:46All your allies have forgotten you.
- 38:48They care nothing for you. So all of us Abraham Accords,
- 38:52where it's going to be peace with Israel doesn't matter
- 38:55because nobody's going to support Israel.
- 38:57That's what God is saying here through Jeremiah.
- 39:01You're not going to have anybody.
- 39:03In fact, that's when Jesus returns.
- 39:04All the nations are against Israel.
- 39:07Israel has no one left except God.
- 39:11And that's who I want to have is the the only one.
- 39:15Don't trust in man, but trust in God.
- 39:19I have struck you as an enemy would and punished you as would
- 39:24the cruel. Because he's giving a reason
- 39:27again. He always gives a reason.
- 39:29Because your guilt is so great and your sins so many.
- 39:34Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no
- 39:39cure? Because of your great guilt and
- 39:43many sins. He said it again, your great
- 39:46guilt and many sins. I have done these things to you
- 39:51because God is a God of justice and he's warned them over and
- 39:56over again, but they would not listen to him.
- 40:00They kept ignoring him. They only wanted to hear good
- 40:02things. They didn't want to hear
- 40:04anything that caused them to change.
- 40:07And we are a lot like that too. We don't like it when somebody
- 40:11tells us you need to change this.
- 40:13Or when we read in the Bible that the things that we do are
- 40:18rebellion to God, we don't necessarily want to think of
- 40:22ourselves as bad people. We don't want to think about
- 40:26ourselves as sinners. But there's freedom in
- 40:32acknowledging that we are acknowledging that, yes, we've
- 40:36done some rebellious things, but there is also power through God
- 40:42to change those things, to get the, you know, to have those
- 40:47things eliminated from our lives because the power of God is
- 40:52greater than the power of any kind of stronghold that might be
- 40:56on us, on our lives. There is freedom, freedom from
- 41:00slavery, slavery to sin through the Holy Spirit.
- 41:07But here's where God also brings about justice.
- 41:10And he's telling his people that, you know, all this stuff
- 41:14is going to happen to you because of your sins.
- 41:17And you don't have anybody to plead your case because they
- 41:20deny Jesus. So they don't have, what do they
- 41:24have? They're just going to have to
- 41:25suffer. But here's where God shows his
- 41:29justice. He can sometimes, and has
- 41:31sometimes in history used Pagan people, ungodly people, as his
- 41:39resource to bring about judgement on his people and on
- 41:44other people. So God does use people that
- 41:47don't even believe in Him for his own purposes, and that's how
- 41:52God is sovereign. He can use those individuals
- 41:56choices like they don't like Israel.
- 41:59So God can use their hatred towards Israel to bring about
- 42:03punishment. So it's not that he's causing
- 42:07them to do these things. They already have it inside
- 42:10them. They've already made the
- 42:11decision that they don't like Israel, and God uses that to
- 42:16bring about punishment. But here's where the justice
- 42:20comes in. All who devour you will be
- 42:24devoured. All your enemies will go into
- 42:28exile. Those who plunder you will be
- 42:31plundered. All who make spoil of you I will
- 42:36despoil. But I will restore you to health
- 42:40and heal your wounds. So again, God alone is the one
- 42:45who's going to restore. How does that happen?
- 42:48Through Jesus? How are we healed through Jesus?
- 42:53They just don't have their eyes open to this yet.
- 42:56But they will. And it's going to be, you know,
- 43:00when Jesus returns, when they finally do.
- 43:02And you know, God is God is just, and he had to make it this
- 43:07way because of the resistance to him.
- 43:11So he had to let them go through this.
- 43:14And this is future stuff too. This is what the Lord says.
- 43:17I will restore the fortunes of Jacob's tents and have camp
- 43:23compassion on his dwellings. The city will be rebuilt on her
- 43:27runes and the palace will stand in its proper place.
- 43:33So there's going to be like a king again.
- 43:37David is talked about and where he's going to be.
- 43:41And Jesus will be king for the 1000 years.
- 43:45That's why I think David's called a Prince because he's not
- 43:48the king. Jesus will be the king.
- 43:51But it's, it's kind of interesting.
- 43:54I mean, I wonder where where's Jesus will live with the people?
- 43:57I don't know. There's a lot to look forward to
- 43:59and a lot to explore with us. OK?
- 44:03From them will come songs of Thanksgiving and the sound of
- 44:07rejoicing. I will add to their numbers.
- 44:11They will not be decreased. So again, we know this did not
- 44:15happen yet because Israel's numbers have been decreased.
- 44:20In fact, in 2023, when there was the great slaughter from October
- 44:257th, they were, their numbers were decreased.
- 44:30So this promise is for the future.
- 44:35After Jesus returns, I will bring them honor and they will
- 44:40not be disdained. Their children will be as in
- 44:46days of old. Now what does that mean?
- 44:49The children will be as in days of old.
- 44:53Here's what I think, and this is a speculation.
- 44:56I think during the Millennium, it tells us, I think it's in
- 44:59Isaiah, that people who live to be 100 years old, old will be
- 45:04considered. But a child and anyone who
- 45:08doesn't reach 100 will be considered.
- 45:11You know, there's, there's something wrong there.
- 45:14There's something, I guess, evil within that person because
- 45:17otherwise they would live past 100.
- 45:19And so in the beginning, in Genesis, people lived 305
- 45:26hundred, 900 years. And so I am speculating that
- 45:33their children will be as in the days of old.
- 45:37I'm thinking they're going to have long years of life and
- 45:39their community will be established before me.
- 45:43I will punish all who oppress them.
- 45:46Their leader will be one of their own.
- 45:50Their ruler will arise from among them.
- 45:54So there are two thoughts that I have about this leader, and it
- 45:57could be both Jesus and David. So their leader will be one of
- 46:03their own. Jesus came from the tribe of
- 46:05Judah. The ruler will arise from among
- 46:09them. So is the ruler maybe David
- 46:12resurrected or it could be some other person.
- 46:15You know, I'm not saying that it has to be David, but during this
- 46:19restoration period, Jesus returns and David, you know, is,
- 46:24is he was the man after God's own heart like he was.
- 46:29He was one who was noted for that.
- 46:32I will bring him near, and he will come close to me.
- 46:37For who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?
- 46:43It David was the man after God's own heart.
- 46:46So history tells us David is the one.
- 46:49Now there might be someone who comes after him, perhaps, but it
- 46:54could be David declares the Lord.
- 46:56So you will be my people and I will be your God.
- 47:00That's kind of an everlasting promise that God has given to
- 47:02people. See, the storm of the Lord will
- 47:05burst out in wrath, a driving wind swirling down on the heads
- 47:12of the wicked. So here again is God's justice.
- 47:16Wicked wickedness will be punished.
- 47:20The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until He
- 47:25fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart.
- 47:31So God wants to rid the world of evil, and there will be wrath
- 47:38that will come on those who reject Jesus in the days to
- 47:43come. You will understand this.
- 47:46So you know, is that time now like we understand this.
- 47:50I feel like I believe that I understand this and that it's,
- 47:56you know, from reading the Bible.
- 47:57That's the only way that I understand this is from reading
- 48:00all the chapters that I've done up to this point.
- 48:03And, and I think God does reveal to us the knowledge and wisdom
- 48:12the Holy Spirit will give us when we stay in God's Word.
- 48:15And I've been staying in God's Word fairly regularly since I
- 48:21started all this. But, and I plan to continue to
- 48:25do it too, because I think it's really important.
- 48:28That's how we stay connected to God.
- 48:30So the study Bible says how were they incurable and beyond
- 48:35healing? This is a word picture of an
- 48:36individual with a fatal wound. There is no hope for recovery or
- 48:40cure. This is an accurate portrayal of
- 48:43our spiritual condition. Apart from the from God's mercy
- 48:48and grace, we are in a hopeless and fatal condition.
- 48:53Again. It still points us to Jesus
- 48:55because Jesus is that cure. And if somebody rejects Jesus as
- 49:02the people of Israel currently do, not all, not all people, but
- 49:07you know that many people do, the ones who stay in their
- 49:11Jewish faith and you know, are still looking for the first
- 49:18coming. They didn't recognize Jesus as
- 49:20the Messiah when he came the first time.
- 49:23They don't look for a second coming.
- 49:25They're looking for the Messiah to come for the first time.
- 49:28Those people. So was the dramatic turn around
- 49:33fulfilled when the Jews returned from Babylon?
- 49:35When Old Testament prophets directed Israel's attention
- 49:39toward future blessing, the exact time of fulfillment was
- 49:42often unclear. That is the case in these
- 49:46verses. Jeremiah expected there would be
- 49:49a complete restoration when the nation returned to their land
- 49:52because of the promises of the Lord.
- 49:54Though this prophecy is clearly Messianic, the prophets did not
- 50:00envision, quote, the Church age and the Gospel going to the
- 50:04nation's. Even Jesus's disciples fully
- 50:07expected Jesus to inaugurate the Kingdom at the height of his
- 50:12ministry, not offer his life as a ransom for many, and then
- 50:17return to heaven as a result. Although there have been taste
- 50:22of restoration, this dramatic turn around is still future.
- 50:26And for all the I pointed out all the things that I saw that
- 50:30it, this is future as well. So why couldn't God's love have
- 50:36overcome his wrath? Because God's character demands
- 50:39that justice be satisfied. God does not vent His anger as a
- 50:46tantrum. His wrath is necessary to
- 50:50preserve the integrity of His Holiness.
- 50:53God's wrath towards sin was ultimately satisfied by the
- 50:58death of Christ on the cross. And that's so important for us
- 51:03to understand. And that was actually the last
- 51:08question for this chapter. And I thought it would be a lot
- 51:12shorter, but it wasn't. So I do hope that this was
- 51:15beneficial to you if it was. And if you think it would be
- 51:19beneficial to others, please share it.
- 51:21And I do invite you to subscribe to this if you want to stay in
- 51:25the Word. I try to read every day and some
- 51:28are shorter than others, but I can tend to talk a lot
- 51:31unfortunately. But hopefully this helps
- 51:35understand scripture when I speak about this.
- 51:39That's my intention anyway. And so I hope you join for
- 51:43chapter 31 because there's more about Jesus there.
