- 0:00Speaker 1: And we understand that ten territory businesses have indeed been
- 0:03Speaker 1: nominated for the twenty twenty two Chief Minister's Export Awards.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Now theyred you to be announced on Friday night, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: the awards are aimed at promoting the importance, of course
- 0:13Speaker 1: of international trade and the industry and recognizing the outstanding
- 0:17Speaker 1: achievements and success stories of the Northern Territories export leaders.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Now joining me on the line to tell us more
- 0:24Speaker 1: about the event is the Chief Operating Officer with the
- 0:27Speaker 1: Chamber of Commerce, Nicole Walsh.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Good morning, thank you for having
- 0:32Speaker 2: me on. Nicole, great to have a chat with you.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Now tell us what are the awards all about.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Like you mentioned, Katie, it's all about recognizing international trade
- 0:41Speaker 3: and export. We know for some it's been a tough years,
- 0:44Speaker 3: a tough couple of years with COVID and it's just
- 0:47Speaker 3: a great opportunity to recognize the great work that's been done.
- 0:51Speaker 3: And of course the winners of this Friday's categories do
- 0:55Speaker 3: go into the international stage. I compete against other state
- 0:59Speaker 3: and territory to the Export of the Year, which is
- 1:02Speaker 3: very exciting.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Now I understand that there are team finalists, what kind
- 1:05Speaker 1: of industries do they operating.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Right across the right across the different sectors. You know,
- 1:11Speaker 3: some of the categories include, you know, the Agrian food business, manufacturing,
- 1:16Speaker 3: advanced materials, professional services. There's actually really quite a range.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Of course, we've got ones that that have been involved
- 1:22Speaker 3: in the export industry for some for some time, and
- 1:24Speaker 3: there's some newer nominees in there as well, so a
- 1:27Speaker 3: Catherine and Alice Springs nominee as well, which is always
- 1:30Speaker 3: excellens to see, Nicole.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Why is international trade or you know that exports so
- 1:36Speaker 1: important in the territory.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, it's it's when we talk about export, we
- 1:41Speaker 3: think about the businesses of course that of exporting over
- 1:44Speaker 3: and doing business, but the actual the supply chain and
- 1:48Speaker 3: how the flows through impacts of business in the Northern
- 1:51Speaker 3: Territory from you know, people that they employ or the
- 1:54Speaker 3: people that supporting that business. Exporting so incredibly important for
- 1:57Speaker 3: our economy and the whole not just the explorer themselves,
- 2:01Speaker 3: but everything else that goes with it. Is really is
- 2:04Speaker 3: such an economy booster.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and I guess when you talk about that economy booster,
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm sure makes a huge contribution as well, you know
- 2:12Speaker 1: to the Northern Territory more generally.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just looking at the figures. Actually sixteen point
- 2:17Speaker 3: three billions, so it's a it's a pretty big thing
- 2:20Speaker 3: of exporting. And of course we know that there's been
- 2:23Speaker 3: lots of different talks with different countries that where you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: the territories really looking how we can sort of reach
- 2:29Speaker 3: the you know, the the forty billion by twenty thirty
- 2:32Speaker 3: and how that works with other countries with importing and
- 2:34Speaker 3: exporting as well. So it's something that's you know, that
- 2:38Speaker 3: really pushing through.
- 2:39Speaker 1: With Yeah, well when you do talk about sort of
- 2:40Speaker 1: growing the economy and you know, and that economy building
- 2:44Speaker 1: up to forty billion, how important are our exports. I
- 2:48Speaker 1: know you've touched on the fact that you obviously need
- 2:50Speaker 1: to be working with you know, with different countries, but
- 2:53Speaker 1: like how important is this piece of the puzzle.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's hugely important because we do as a territory there's
- 3:00Speaker 3: so much opportunity for business and again to grunting economy,
- 3:03Speaker 3: so it's really important. And the more we can export,
- 3:06Speaker 3: the more the more resources that we'll go into supporting
- 3:09Speaker 3: those exporters, which is generating more business for full territory business.
- 3:13Speaker 3: So you might have someone doing something really big in
- 3:16Speaker 3: if they have a Catherine region, that part of that
- 3:18Speaker 3: part of supply chain is coming from you from Alice
- 3:21Speaker 3: Springs or from Tennant Creek, or however from on other
- 3:24Speaker 3: islands and Nolan Boy or go. So you know, working
- 3:27Speaker 3: together as a as a business community to support export
- 3:31Speaker 3: well just will benefit everyone and the economics goes back
- 3:34Speaker 3: into our communities and our businesses and it just makes
- 3:37Speaker 3: for a stronger economy.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And I'd imagine that an event like Friday Nights as
- 3:40Speaker 1: well is you know, a really great opportunity to sort
- 3:43Speaker 1: of highlight the wonderful exporters. So the wonderful businesses that
- 3:47Speaker 1: we've got in the Northern Territory that are exporting and
- 3:50Speaker 1: the great work that they're doing.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Yeah, look, it absolutely is for the nominees, of course,
- 3:55Speaker 3: I just spoken. It's been released by the Chiefments as
- 3:58Speaker 3: offices a great way because they don't all have to
- 4:01Speaker 3: be multinational organizations. We've got some you know privately own
- 4:05Speaker 3: some bigger organizations. And it's also you know, I think
- 4:08Speaker 3: it's really different people to see, but we have lots
- 4:10Speaker 3: of conversations as a chamber throughout all reasons because we're
- 4:13Speaker 3: basically the territory and I think it's a great way
- 4:16Speaker 3: to aspires as people are talking to Antenta Crete last
- 4:18Speaker 3: week that they're looking at becoming exporters. So seeing what's
- 4:21Speaker 3: happening here has seen people being recognized as you know what,
- 4:24Speaker 3: I think we can actually do that and this is
- 4:25Speaker 3: what we're aiming to do. Northern CHURCHI Government does a
- 4:28Speaker 3: lot around the support. It was a round table yesterday
- 4:30Speaker 3: in our springs that you know, people wanting to look
- 4:33Speaker 3: at who are in and the challenges that who are
- 4:35Speaker 3: looking to export as well. There's always those conversations happening
- 4:39Speaker 3: and it's just highlights, you know, how people are doing
- 4:41Speaker 3: it really really well.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Nicole, How long have these awards been running for?
- 4:46Speaker 3: They have been all that's running for a very very
- 4:49Speaker 3: long time. It's over twenty thirty it's about twenty or
- 4:52Speaker 3: thirty years. I believe Chamber has had it for a
- 4:56Speaker 3: long time. The National ones have been around for a while.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Of course we had monsoons the National National Awards last year,
- 5:02Speaker 3: but they've been around for a very very long time.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And I can just see that strength and me now
- 5:06Speaker 3: we'll have it like we all know. Yeah, a couple
- 5:08Speaker 3: of very different years. And it's not just about export
- 5:10Speaker 3: and ours, of course, it's all about supply chain as well,
- 5:13Speaker 3: so to strengths for strengths. It's been a busy week
- 5:16Speaker 3: with OBM and everything else that's happening now this week,
- 5:19Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it. So it will be a
- 5:22Speaker 2: massive night.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Are there still tickets available if there is anybody out
- 5:25Speaker 1: there listening that is keen to support are the Northern
- 5:28Speaker 1: Territory Export Awards.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah, look absolutely, it's like to jump on our website
- 5:33Speaker 3: to the Chamber empt website. I'll give us a call,
- 5:35Speaker 3: to me a call and we can certainly organize. We're
- 5:38Speaker 3: down at the convention Center and it's going to be
- 5:40Speaker 3: a great great get Jeff a great speaker. Jeff Well,
- 5:43Speaker 3: he's coming. He is an exporter from New South wel
- 5:47Speaker 3: it's someone from the Export Awards. So it's going to
