- 0:18Speaker 1: Barb Streisen, their woman in Low just I. Normally I'll
- 0:21Speaker 1: start off with a kind of an anthem, but you know,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I've fancied the change, and people that have listened to
- 0:26Speaker 1: the show will know that I love a female vocalist
- 0:30Speaker 1: with a really strong voice, you know, like ce Celine Dion.
- 0:33Speaker 1: People like that, and so it's great to hear Barble Streisen.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Don't need much about it these days anyway. What I
- 0:38Speaker 1: want to do before we get chatting to today's guests,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I want to tell you about another running story that
- 0:45Speaker 1: came to my attention during the week. Now, former Eurotunnel
- 0:49Speaker 1: colleague Kevin Knowles got in touch with me and told
- 0:52Speaker 1: me that his daughter in Lord Jemma, was running the
- 0:54Speaker 1: Finsbury Park half marathon in London tomorrow. So Jemma and
- 0:58Speaker 1: I had a long chat on the phone and yet
- 1:00Speaker 1: another story of an unsung hero running running a half
- 1:04Speaker 1: marathon charity popped up. Now that many runners raising funds
- 1:08Speaker 1: for charity on this show, but this is a charity
- 1:11Speaker 1: I've never heard of. I'll try and get this right
- 1:13Speaker 1: first time. It's the National Society for Penyl Ketanuria, which
- 1:18Speaker 1: is also known of PKU for short. PKU is where
- 1:23Speaker 1: the body is unable to break down an amino acid
- 1:26Speaker 1: found in protein. This condition has no cure and the
- 1:29Speaker 1: treatment involves following an incredibly strict diet and medication. Now,
- 1:34Speaker 1: it can be diagnosed in babies as early as five
- 1:37Speaker 1: days old, and mums, I'm sure you'll be familiar with
- 1:41Speaker 1: the terms the heel prick or the blood spot test.
- 1:44Speaker 1: If not picked up early, it can lead to learning difficulties,
- 1:47Speaker 1: behavior problems, and in some cases brain damage. But if
- 1:51Speaker 1: it is picked up, the child can avoid any long
- 1:53Speaker 1: term health conditions. Now Gemma has two daughters, Maya who
- 1:57Speaker 1: is eight, an Ivy who is four, and Ivy, who
- 2:00Speaker 1: was diagnosed with PKU at that very early age thanks
- 2:04Speaker 1: to the NHS screening program. Jemma told me that they
- 2:08Speaker 1: feel so fortunate that Ivy was diagnosed so early, as
- 2:11Speaker 1: it enabled her, with strict management, to lead a relatively
- 2:15Speaker 1: normal life. So Jemma decided she wanted to get the
- 2:19Speaker 1: word out there about the PKU charity, as is a
- 2:23Speaker 1: little known compared to some of the big ones. She
- 2:25Speaker 1: took on the challenge of the half marathon and was
- 2:28Speaker 1: lucky enough to have her friend and work colleague Sophie
- 2:30Speaker 1: join her. Jemma told me she loved and enjoyed sport
- 2:34Speaker 1: and grew up swimming as a Dover lifeguard. However, running
- 2:37Speaker 1: wasn't on the agenda. Their training has gone well and
- 2:41Speaker 1: whilst never having completed a half marathon, at the moment
- 2:44Speaker 1: that just over a mile short of the thirteen point
- 2:46Speaker 1: one miles necessary, they feel they can manage that extra
- 2:50Speaker 1: mile on the day now. Jemma set herself and a
- 2:53Speaker 1: target of one thousand pound and thanks to family, friends,
- 2:57Speaker 1: customers at a Silk Care hair salon, and even total
- 3:01Speaker 1: strangers have donated, She's currently raised four three hundred and
- 3:05Speaker 1: thirty pounds. Now that is absolutely incredible. Jemma and Sophie
- 3:09Speaker 1: are traveling up the night before and catching up with
- 3:12Speaker 1: the family and friends on Sunday, and would like to
- 3:15Speaker 1: thank them all, especially Jemma's husband Kyle, for being so supportive. Now,
- 3:19Speaker 1: this is another story that came my way and I
- 3:21Speaker 1: want to share it with the listeners. This is an
- 3:24Speaker 1: ordinary family whose life was changed when Ivy was diagnosed
- 3:27Speaker 1: with PKU. They've all been been patient, strong, and Ivy's
- 3:31Speaker 1: turned into a happy and kind little superstar. Now, if
- 3:35Speaker 1: you get a minute. Just put PKU in your search
- 3:37Speaker 1: box for all the information about this condition. But no
- 3:40Speaker 1: doubt the fact that husband Kyle Meyer and Ivy especially
- 3:44Speaker 1: be waiting on the finish line will keep Jemma going. Now,
- 3:48Speaker 1: I want to say good morning to Kevin as a
- 3:50Speaker 1: father in law and Sandra who hopefully are listening in
- 3:53Speaker 1: there in Brighton at the moment as we speak. So
- 3:57Speaker 1: that's nice to have the support of the family as
- 3:59Speaker 1: we say. It's so important, as we're going to find
- 4:01Speaker 1: out later in the show just what to support you
- 4:04Speaker 1: need when you're running a marathon or any sort of
- 4:08Speaker 1: a long distance event. So it's really really special that
- 4:12Speaker 1: you know they're doing this thing. There are lots of
- 4:15Speaker 1: unsung heroes out there. In fact, I've got three of
- 4:17Speaker 1: them in the studio today, So Jemma and Sophie all
- 4:21Speaker 1: the best. I really want you to do well and
- 4:24Speaker 1: when you've done it, and send me a little email
- 4:26Speaker 1: during the week and tell me how you got on. Now.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I did ask Jemma for a song and she couldn't
- 4:30Speaker 1: make her mind up. She sounds like a bit of
- 4:32Speaker 1: a nineties naughties girl, but so I found this one.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I went for the title really more than anything. Gemma
- 4:39Speaker 1: and Sophie, this is for you is don't Stop Moving
- 4:41Speaker 1: S Club seven.
- 4:46Speaker 2: On.
- 4:55Speaker 1: There you go, that's S Club seven, don't stop moving
- 4:57Speaker 1: in the best forward Jemma and Sophie, Welcome to the show.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I want to introduce you to three people that have
- 5:03Speaker 1: been in before they run the London Marathon. But now
- 5:05Speaker 1: we're going to find out what was it all about?
- 5:07Speaker 1: What was it like? So I want to say good
- 5:09Speaker 1: morning to Mikayla. Good morning, Mikayla, Good morning, Kevin, good
- 5:12Speaker 1: and good morning Will and good morning Peel, good morning excellent.
- 5:16Speaker 1: So good welcome to you all. Now I think we
- 5:19Speaker 1: start I should we start with We start with you first, Phil, Phil,
- 5:23Speaker 1: so come right in. That's it. And Phil, you you
- 5:28Speaker 1: tell us a little bit about just leading up to
- 5:31Speaker 1: the marathon, you know, how you got into your background,
- 5:34Speaker 1: your training, and then we go on to the day itself.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Okay, So I've not I wouldn't call myself a runner historically,
- 5:42Speaker 2: I've not. I mean I used to do a bit
- 5:44Speaker 2: of running, you know, five k every now and again,
- 5:48Speaker 2: but then as I was approaching forty I started getting
- 5:50Speaker 2: into it a bit more so did the folks in
- 5:52Speaker 2: Half marathon last year, twenty five. That was my first
- 5:56Speaker 2: sort of longer event, and I felt like I wanted
- 6:00Speaker 2: to do the marathon. I had gone in the ballot
- 6:02Speaker 2: for ten years, never got in, never thought I would
- 6:05Speaker 2: get in. So, you know, when there's that many people
- 6:07Speaker 2: are playing on the ballot, you don't, well, you necessarily
- 6:10Speaker 2: think you're going to actually have to run it.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You must have all picked up now that they're going
- 6:14Speaker 1: to do it over a weekend too, yeah yeah, yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so on a Saturday and a Sunday.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But that's totally another issue because Facebook or social media
- 6:27Speaker 1: has lit up with oh it's a great idea. Oh no,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's a poor idea. I'll still never get in all
- 6:31Speaker 1: all that. So anyway, Mikayla, so let's come in to you.
- 6:35Speaker 1: If you could just tweak the microphone towards you, that's it, right, So, Mikayla, briefly,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you had a reason for doing this, So tell us
- 6:42Speaker 1: about your reason before you cross that start line.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 4: So, my dad, Will's granddad suffered with dementia for many years,
- 6:52Speaker 4: about six years, and we knew that the last year
- 6:57Speaker 4: or so he was approaching the end of his life.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Will had the bright idea again, light feel we'd entered
- 7:04Speaker 4: the ballot, knew there was a little chance of getting in.
- 7:07Speaker 4: We really felt that this year was the year. So
- 7:10Speaker 4: We'll had the bright idea of applying for a charity place.
- 7:13Speaker 4: It wasn't too difficult to pick our charity, Alzheimer's Research UK.
- 7:17Speaker 4: They're the only UK charity focused solely on finding a
- 7:21Speaker 4: cure for dementia. We got in touch with them, had
- 7:25Speaker 4: a short interview and I think the fact that we
- 7:28Speaker 4: were a mother and some team worked in our favor
- 7:31Speaker 4: and we heard shortly afterwards that we both had a place.
- 7:33Speaker 3: So that was.
- 7:35Speaker 4: August time, I think late August. So training began in
- 7:39Speaker 4: Earnest on the first of September for me probably about
- 7:42Speaker 4: the same for you, wasn't it Will.
- 7:43Speaker 1: So we'll come come right in now, So we'll So
- 7:46Speaker 1: you say this was your idea, it was what idea? Yeah?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I mean, did you really think that your mum would
- 7:51Speaker 1: would join your You think she'd go, oh, you never
- 7:53Speaker 1: get catch me running a marathon?
- 7:55Speaker 5: Well, to be honest, I had the bright idea, but
- 7:57Speaker 5: mum actually had the the Well, if you had the
- 8:00Speaker 5: drive one than I did to actually do it, and
- 8:02Speaker 5: I think that motivated me a bit more.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Right, So you was a bit casual about it, was he?
- 8:06Speaker 5: Yeah, time was actually mum sort of vegged me on.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Oh right, that's good.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We don't want to get beaten. I think.
- 8:15Speaker 1: That's what mums do, though, come on, get your trainers on.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So Phil, coming back to you now, let's go right
- 8:22Speaker 1: onto the day. Now, So how did you get up there?
- 8:24Speaker 1: On the day?
- 8:25Speaker 2: I went up on the train. The first train out
- 8:28Speaker 2: went into the London Bridge like six a m. Start.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Did you did you guys go on the train? You didn't?
- 8:35Speaker 2: I kind of wish I'd got a hotel because that
- 8:38Speaker 2: was the most stressful part of the day was the
- 8:40Speaker 2: train was packed, especially at London Bridge. The crowd of
- 8:43Speaker 2: people like stood on the train like we're being on
- 8:46Speaker 2: busy commuter trains. This was a lot lot busier anyway,
- 8:52Speaker 2: made it got there.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Right, okay? So did you arrange to meet family afterwards
- 8:56Speaker 1: that they come up later in the day.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I had a few people out on course which I
- 9:01Speaker 2: then met up with afterwards. I think I managed to
- 9:06Speaker 2: see everyone that came up on the course except my mum,
- 9:10Speaker 2: which is a bit disappointed about and because we're talking
- 9:13Speaker 2: about because I've sort of stuffed up my timing a bit.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I did actually consider running backwards along the course because
- 9:19Speaker 2: my mum would text me where she was and I
- 9:21Speaker 2: was like, I'm not that far from there, maybe I
- 9:23Speaker 2: should go back. But I didn't, and I went back
- 9:26Speaker 2: afterwards at the end.
- 9:28Speaker 1: The So you got to the start. Okay, when you
- 9:32Speaker 1: was on the on the line, you were surrounded by people.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Could you get going at the place you would normally
- 9:37Speaker 1: run it?
- 9:38Speaker 2: It was busy and there were quite a few people
- 9:41Speaker 2: that were i'd say, in the wrong wave. Yes, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 2: there was lots of kind of slut I mean, I
- 9:47Speaker 2: was in quite an early wave. I was in a
- 9:49Speaker 2: wave for three forty three. I was forty. Yeah, and
- 9:54Speaker 2: quite quickly it was clear that people were all over
- 9:56Speaker 2: the preast. But I think for the first time, if
- 10:00Speaker 2: I kept up with my with my plans schedule.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, so we're going I come to
- 10:05Speaker 1: will now, So we'll if I remember rightly, you were
- 10:09Speaker 1: not in the same wave as your mum, was you,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but so tell us let's start again. You went up
- 10:13Speaker 1: the night before, Yeah, we did.
- 10:15Speaker 5: We stayed in a hotel in Dartford and.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Then of Dartford. That's quite a way out then, Yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 1: but I suppose you must have worked it out. There
- 10:23Speaker 1: must have been some logistics to get into London.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Luckily our family helped hell of a lot and sort
- 10:29Speaker 5: of took that stress on them.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, Okay, and so Mikayla sorry has moved the
- 10:34Speaker 1: microphone around. That's it. So you stayed the night before, Yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 1: but but you went up to the start. Did you
- 10:42Speaker 1: go up to the start together and then say goodbye
- 10:43Speaker 1: outside all those barriers?
- 10:45Speaker 4: Well, the reason we went up the day before because
- 10:47Speaker 4: we didn't get because of work and other commitments, we
- 10:50Speaker 4: couldn't get to the expo till Saturday afternoon, so that's
- 10:52Speaker 4: why we stayed. I went up to Excel, picked up
- 10:56Speaker 4: our packs. Yeah, found our names on the wall, which
- 10:59Speaker 4: was bizarrelyed.
- 11:02Speaker 1: To go back to Dartford. We were at Dartford.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Two of my cousins had arranged this scoop my mom
- 11:09Speaker 4: up and made because we wanted mum to be part
- 11:11Speaker 4: of the weekend. So yeah, we made it to Dartford
- 11:14Speaker 4: and then they ferried us. I think I picked up
- 11:16Speaker 4: the train at Slade Green down to Maze Hill and
- 11:19Speaker 4: just walked up the hill to my start point from there,
- 11:22Speaker 4: so it's all very easy.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You was in a different wave though, were any different colors,
- 11:25Speaker 1: different zones?
- 11:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I was Red twelve, So about an hour after Will,
- 11:31Speaker 4: I actually found my wave. Okay, it was room to
- 11:34Speaker 4: spread out. It didn't feel we're too bunched up.
- 11:36Speaker 3: At the start. It was amazing to start when the.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Gene you are, ye get the goose bumps all over
- 11:41Speaker 4: your body and sort of real adrenaline rush.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I think this is it going back now? So what
- 11:47Speaker 1: about you, Will? I mean your start was where.
- 11:50Speaker 5: I was in. I was pink start. I think pink
- 11:54Speaker 5: Wave four, so it was a sort of relatively early
- 11:57Speaker 5: sort of wave. I think the biggest thing the crowds
- 12:01Speaker 5: were immense right at the start line, and like Phil said,
- 12:03Speaker 5: you sort of take a little bit of time to
- 12:05Speaker 5: get into your rhythm, and when people were running past
- 12:09Speaker 5: you as well, that sort of gets in your head
- 12:10Speaker 5: for the first sort of ten ish miles. Yeah, so
- 12:13Speaker 5: it's just about staying in the zone really, yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. So I suppose you see these people running
- 12:17Speaker 1: past you and think, oh, you know, perhaps I should
- 12:19Speaker 1: go with them.
- 12:20Speaker 5: It's line games, definitely, Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 1: But what about I feel, what about you? Did you
- 12:23Speaker 1: pick up on one of these pacers with the flags
- 12:25Speaker 1: up in the air.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say that I found the
- 12:28Speaker 2: start definitely the first ten k until the different waves
- 12:32Speaker 2: come together, the pace the pacers. Yeah, I felt it
- 12:36Speaker 2: was really confusing, you know, like, right, I'm trying to
- 12:38Speaker 2: keep up with the three forty guy, but then you know,
- 12:41Speaker 2: the four hour person's run past me and I'm like, oh,
- 12:44Speaker 2: what's what's going on here? Is just because they've started
- 12:46Speaker 2: from a completely different spot.
- 12:47Speaker 1: So I will say that I eve run it once
- 12:50Speaker 1: and there's a long story, but I've been on the
- 12:52Speaker 1: start line and I found exactly that. I got behind
- 12:56Speaker 1: a pacer and then the waves came along and I thought, oh,
- 12:59Speaker 1: should I join another It's a different time, a slower
- 13:01Speaker 1: time way I was feeling. But yeah, so that was
- 13:04Speaker 1: a little bit of confusing. So what about you guys,
- 13:07Speaker 1: did you join a pacer? We will just do your
- 13:09Speaker 1: own thing.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 5: So, like Phil said, I was trying to follow sort
- 13:12Speaker 5: of the three hour thirty mark, just to sort of
- 13:15Speaker 5: keep myself up there a bit. But then, like you said,
- 13:17Speaker 5: the four hour markers come past me, and I'm thinking,
- 13:20Speaker 5: I can't be.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Half an hour.
- 13:22Speaker 5: I'm on target here. Yeah, yeah, so that sort of
- 13:25Speaker 5: played some mind games on you. But I think the
- 13:28Speaker 5: crowds they just gee you up so much and you
- 13:31Speaker 5: hear it from everybody like you don't need music in
- 13:33Speaker 5: your areas. No, I really don't, because you can't hear
- 13:36Speaker 5: your music for the entirety of the course.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well, talking about music, I think we've better
- 13:42Speaker 1: play a song now. Now I'm going to hit this button,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and I hope this is really right because this is
- 13:46Speaker 1: a special one for Phil. Now. I know that Phil
- 13:49Speaker 1: went to America for his holiday, and I was being
- 13:53Speaker 1: a nosey old social media person looking on his website,
- 13:57Speaker 1: on his Facebook page, and there's this cracking picture of
- 14:00Speaker 1: Field there with standing right over the Route sixty six sign.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So I think I might have clicked and we might
- 14:07Speaker 1: lose a few seconds of this. But let's ever listen to.
- 14:10Speaker 5: This Jack Classic Hall.
- 14:14Speaker 1: That's well, that's Route sixty six there. That's a special
- 14:31Speaker 1: song for a feel there. Everybody, have a look at
- 14:34Speaker 1: his Facebook. I don't care, go on, have a look
- 14:35Speaker 1: at his Facebook. Is his cover picture? I think He's
- 14:38Speaker 1: got a cracking picture of him sitting over a classic
- 14:42Speaker 1: road sign says route sixty six my profile. I'm going
- 14:47Speaker 1: to delete it now, come off for a come off
- 14:49Speaker 1: social media. Yeah. Okay, so we've got another couple of
- 14:53Speaker 1: songs lined up for our other two guests. But okay,
- 14:56Speaker 1: let's get down to the nitty gritty. Mikayla onto you.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So it's all started. You got twenty six point two
- 15:03Speaker 1: miles in front of you. I mean, how did it go?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Let's take us through, if you like, just quickly, the
- 15:09Speaker 1: first half of the marathon.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I mean, the first half felt pretty good, and when
- 15:15Speaker 4: I saw Tower Bridge that was a bit of an
- 15:17Speaker 4: emotional moment.
- 15:18Speaker 3: And then it quickly hits you think, oh I've just
- 15:21Speaker 3: done that.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I've got to do it all again. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I would say probably for the first sixteen miles, I
- 15:28Speaker 4: was okay, it was very warm.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It was a hot day, yes, very.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Warm, and my knees just seemed to pop that then,
- 15:36Speaker 4: and the last ten miles were tough, but I'd already
- 15:40Speaker 4: been to the Loure a couple of times. Yeah, it
- 15:43Speaker 4: didn't know. I didn't need to stop again. So I thought,
- 15:46Speaker 4: if I stop I am done for right, So I
- 15:50Speaker 4: just kept one foot in front of the other.
- 15:52Speaker 1: If you was watching your watch, I mean, were you
- 15:56Speaker 1: doing the pace that you thought or did you end up?
- 15:57Speaker 1: Because it was these guys.
- 16:00Speaker 4: You know, I was realistic about you know, I hadn't
- 16:03Speaker 4: run for eight years before the first of September, fifty
- 16:06Speaker 4: four years old. I wasn't going to be breaking any records.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I just went into it with the mindset, I'm going
- 16:11Speaker 4: to start this and I'm going to finish.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Yeah, So I.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Wasn't really worried about the time. Yeah, you know, I
- 16:18Speaker 4: knew I wanted to cross the line on the mail.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I didn't want to go over to the year slow.
- 16:22Speaker 4: So I just was in my own bubble. Really take
- 16:26Speaker 4: any notice of the pacer.
- 16:28Speaker 1: That's quite a nice attitude, really, because probably, like Will,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I was looking for a good time. Will just what
- 16:35Speaker 1: was your first half marathon? Like, you know, on the day,
- 16:39Speaker 1: were you on track for what you predicted?
- 16:41Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 16:41Speaker 5: To be honest, I had a really sort of positive
- 16:43Speaker 5: experience with the whole marathon body account for the weather.
- 16:48Speaker 5: It was ridiculously hot, and I later found that out
- 16:50Speaker 5: because I've been wearing my vest ever since with tann lines. Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 5: but no, the first half went really well. Leading up
- 16:57Speaker 5: to it, you sort of have to find tweak everything
- 16:59Speaker 5: your sleep, you know how many carbs are taking on everything.
- 17:04Speaker 5: But it was the second half which it definitely hit
- 17:06Speaker 5: me up. Yeah, right around Canary Wolf, everybody says the
- 17:09Speaker 5: same thing. It's yeah, I think you're sort of preempting
- 17:11Speaker 5: it because you know when you get it, when you
- 17:12Speaker 5: get to that point is well.
- 17:14Speaker 1: We come to the second half in a minute. But
- 17:16Speaker 1: I want to talk to to feel about your first half.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mean jokingly, when you was on here, we were
- 17:22Speaker 1: talking about car loading. You remember you had to eat
- 17:25Speaker 1: about a wheelbarrow full of carbs, you know if Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It was like five bags of past in one day.
- 17:33Speaker 2: That was calculated how much I needed to eat. I
- 17:36Speaker 2: didn't eat that much. I did feel really bloated in
- 17:38Speaker 2: the morning though. That was the one thing prep wise
- 17:42Speaker 2: I didn't practice was the car blading, and I think
- 17:44Speaker 2: I overdid it. So when I got there, I did
- 17:47Speaker 2: feel a bit. Yeah. It took sort of four or
- 17:49Speaker 2: five k before I was like, okay, I feel just
- 17:51Speaker 2: about like I'm yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, So the first half was you on schedule?
- 17:58Speaker 2: I was so I mean I made a friend literally
- 18:01Speaker 2: at the start line who happened to be a hockey player,
- 18:03Speaker 2: which I didn't know at the time, and we run
- 18:06Speaker 2: together pretty much for the whole. The first half past
- 18:09Speaker 2: really nicely. First half was was it was great. I
- 18:13Speaker 2: really enjoyed it. And what you said about when you
- 18:15Speaker 2: get to tower Bridge, I mean I think until you
- 18:19Speaker 2: get to Cutty Sark, you're a bit like this is
- 18:22Speaker 2: like any other running running event. There's a lot of people,
- 18:24Speaker 2: but it's very similar. But then when you get to
- 18:27Speaker 2: tower Bridge, it's just another level, like it is overwhelming
- 18:31Speaker 2: type thing. So yeah, that's that's where we got to.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Okay, when I did it, I was I slowed down
- 18:37Speaker 1: on tower Bridge if you like, taking it all in
- 18:39Speaker 1: and I was actually interviewed by Denise Lewis and the BBC. Nice.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It was nice, but it never made it never made
- 18:45Speaker 1: the TV and it's probably because I wasn't dressed up
- 18:48Speaker 1: as a rhinoceros or you know, yeah, as a crocodile
- 18:52Speaker 1: or something like that. But yeah, that was quite an experience.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Had a chat with Nitro from Gardiators side. Yeah, I
- 19:01Speaker 2: I didn't go on TV either.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I will say that when we went up to London
- 19:08Speaker 1: for my birthday last year, and there was two things.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't know if I told you this. There was
- 19:12Speaker 1: two things that we did that were London Marathon related.
- 19:16Speaker 1: We got to Tower Bridge and you can actually go
- 19:19Speaker 1: up one side of it and walk across the top
- 19:21Speaker 1: which has got a glass bottom, and come down the
- 19:24Speaker 1: other side. And so we walked across the top and
- 19:27Speaker 1: I didn't mind walking on the glass, but my other
- 19:29Speaker 1: off too, She wouldn't go near it. But I looked
- 19:31Speaker 1: down and I could sort of imagine thousands of runners
- 19:34Speaker 1: coming through, you know. Anyway, after that, we then got
- 19:37Speaker 1: on on one of those riverboats and went up to
- 19:40Speaker 1: the cutty Sock and that's normally the first point. Unfortunately
- 19:44Speaker 1: I missed everybody, you know three, But we actually actually
- 19:49Speaker 1: went onto the boat and had a little tour around
- 19:51Speaker 1: the boat and looked back down to where we normally
- 19:54Speaker 1: stand and there was nobody there. I mean, the only
- 19:58Speaker 1: time I've ever been to the cache, there are thousands
- 20:00Speaker 1: of thousands and thousands of people and it was deserted.
- 20:03Speaker 1: It was quite spooky, it really was. Okay, so we're
- 20:06Speaker 1: going to play another song now. This one is for you,
- 20:08Speaker 1: Mikayla you've chosen this one and any particular reason. It
- 20:12Speaker 1: was just one that's you, you really enjoying.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I just love it.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And when you hear it, you just your
- 20:19Speaker 4: toe starts happening and you think I can't not move
- 20:21Speaker 4: to this music.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You're dead right, Let's not hang about. Let's put this
- 20:25Speaker 1: one on. This is the Black Eyed Peas And I
- 20:27Speaker 1: got a feeling go on, did you do that bit
- 20:48Speaker 1: at the end? Right? Okay, So we are back in
- 20:55Speaker 1: the studio and we've got three lovely special guests in
- 20:57Speaker 1: that are reliving the nightmare or the ecstasy that was
- 21:01Speaker 1: the London Marathon. So I got both to you and Mikayla.
- 21:05Speaker 1: So now we're into the second half of the marathon.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You told us a little bit about it, but that
- 21:10Speaker 1: was when you you struggled a bit, didn't you.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, those last ten miles went on forever, really, that
- 21:17Speaker 4: bit around Canary Wharf and then you see people coming
- 21:20Speaker 4: who already covered the ground that you've still got to cover,
- 21:24Speaker 4: coming at you, and you think I'll be.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Going that way in a minute, and I know it
- 21:28Speaker 3: was quite a lot of hyre.
- 21:29Speaker 2: It's a little way around there.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah, that was that was tough. I nearly tripped, I tripped,
- 21:35Speaker 4: nearly went flying. I tripped on something on the pavement.
- 21:38Speaker 4: I think that was just after the rhino passed.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Me.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Should not fall over, I reckon. There's more injuries caused
- 21:45Speaker 1: by those water bottles on the ground than anything else
- 21:50Speaker 1: on the course of the day. Because I went to
- 21:54Speaker 1: Cutty Start. Well, everyone is floats around Cuntry Start. It's brilliant.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So then I popped up at the seventeen mile point
- 22:00Speaker 1: and there was like thousands of water bottles and people
- 22:03Speaker 1: were just kicking him to one side. So it's quite
- 22:05Speaker 1: easily to pick up an injury on the London Marathon. Okay,
- 22:08Speaker 1: so forget all that business. You coming up the Embankment
- 22:12Speaker 1: and as Phil was talking about, that tunnel was a
- 22:16Speaker 1: bit spooky running through the tunnel before before it goes
- 22:19Speaker 1: a bit quite a bit hollow. Then you come up
- 22:22Speaker 1: the Embankment, you turn right onto Big Ben and you
- 22:24Speaker 1: think I'm nearly there.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, the kids and a couple of friends. I
- 22:30Speaker 4: was in again, still in my bubble then and I
- 22:33Speaker 4: heard mum. I didn't really register mum, and I'd managed
- 22:37Speaker 4: to turn around and see the kids, So that was
- 22:41Speaker 4: really good.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And my daughter looked a bit emotional at that point.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I think she was glad to see that I was
- 22:44Speaker 3: still alive.
- 22:46Speaker 4: And then when I saw the houses of Parliament, I thought, oh, okay.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I'm going to do this.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I had my name on the front of the vest,
- 22:53Speaker 4: and I might have had a look to hear at
- 22:55Speaker 4: that point, thinking about my dad and the whole enormity
- 22:58Speaker 4: of it.
- 22:58Speaker 3: And someone said.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Come on with cale, don't crying nearly there and all right,
- 23:04Speaker 4: then yeah, I suppose I am so Yeah. Then in
- 23:07Speaker 4: turn Rtin's bird cage walk and somebody said, come on,
- 23:11Speaker 4: you only got eight hundred meters to go from here.
- 23:13Speaker 4: And you see the gantry sign as you come around
- 23:16Speaker 4: in front of the palace three hundred and sixty five
- 23:18Speaker 4: years ago, and I was, I was picking it up.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I had a little bit in the tank to pick
- 23:22Speaker 4: up that last sort of yeah, yeah, arms aloft, G
- 23:28Speaker 4: and R whoever it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Was the picture exact.
- 23:33Speaker 3: And yeah, arms aloft.
- 23:35Speaker 4: As I went over the line and saw the lovely
- 23:37Speaker 4: lady you put the medal.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Round, what a feelings amazing?
- 23:41Speaker 4: It was actually euphoric, is I think it's not an
- 23:44Speaker 4: exaggeration to describe the emotions at that point.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, well you come in there your second half.
- 23:51Speaker 1: How did that go?
- 23:52Speaker 5: Yeah? So the first half of the second half was really,
- 23:56Speaker 5: you know, sort of it was going well. It was
- 23:58Speaker 5: going well, but like I said, it was so hot
- 24:00Speaker 5: on the day. I didn't account for how many gels
- 24:02Speaker 5: and stuff like that I should have kept in my pocket.
- 24:05Speaker 5: So around mile twenty or twenty one, I think it was,
- 24:09Speaker 5: I ran out of gels, right, and at that point
- 24:11Speaker 5: I was thinking, right, okay, these last few miles are
- 24:14Speaker 5: going to be absolute hell, which they were. I think
- 24:17Speaker 5: I got to mile twenty three and my right leg
- 24:19Speaker 5: cramped up and I luckily I didn't stop until that point.
- 24:22Speaker 5: And then I did stop, and I was thinking, oh
- 24:24Speaker 5: my god, I can't do this. And there was a
- 24:26Speaker 5: woman on the sidelines and she said, last five k,
- 24:30Speaker 5: last five k, so I'm thinking, okay, right, we could
- 24:32Speaker 5: do this, we could do this. And then I'm looking
- 24:34Speaker 5: down at my watch and it was definitely longer than
- 24:36Speaker 5: five k. So but yeah, the second half was mostly positive.
- 24:42Speaker 5: And then I got to the last mile marker and
- 24:44Speaker 5: I saw my best friend and he was screaming at me,
- 24:47Speaker 5: and he had a sign up for me as well,
- 24:49Speaker 5: and that sort of carried me over the finish line.
- 24:51Speaker 5: But it was like a you know, well, it was
- 24:54Speaker 5: a movie scene really, you know, when the corridor keeps
- 24:56Speaker 5: getting longer and longer and longer, and I'm on that
- 24:58Speaker 5: last three hundred yards and I'm thinking, come on, I
- 25:01Speaker 5: need to be done now, to be done at that point.
- 25:03Speaker 1: But yeah, he said three, that's a great way of
- 25:08Speaker 1: describing it.
- 25:09Speaker 2: It does feel like that.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Yeah, and then you finish and like Mum said, it
- 25:13Speaker 5: is euphoric. You're hugging random people you've never met, and
- 25:17Speaker 5: that's that's what it's all about.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Is yeah, brilliant. So Phil, your second that.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Uh my second half was nowhereea as good as my
- 25:24Speaker 2: first half, I'd say that. So I think what you
- 25:26Speaker 2: said about euphoria at the finish. I felt that on
- 25:29Speaker 2: Tower Bridge, like it was just like overwhelming. And as
- 25:33Speaker 2: I got to the end of Tower Bridge, my wife
- 25:35Speaker 2: and daughter were there with their signs and whatnot. I
- 25:37Speaker 2: stopped and had had a chat while my wife is
- 25:39Speaker 2: like screaming at me, going keep running. Benadict's right behind you.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Benedict's a guy I went to university with and I
- 25:45Speaker 2: thought she was she meant, you know, as a sort
- 25:48Speaker 2: of motivator, like he's right behind you. I've looked at
- 25:50Speaker 2: the photo since he was genuinely right behind me, this
- 25:53Speaker 2: guy that I've not seen for twenty years anyway. So
- 25:58Speaker 2: at that point, at that moment, I've done London Mouth
- 26:01Speaker 2: and I was happy. I maybe went another two or
- 26:04Speaker 2: three k saw someone that was in quite a bad
- 26:07Speaker 2: way on the side of the course, and it really
- 26:09Speaker 2: got into my uh, into my head being like, you
- 26:13Speaker 2: know what, this is a hot day. I don't really
- 26:15Speaker 2: need to do this in three forty I'm just going
- 26:18Speaker 2: to back off a bit. And that backing off continued
- 26:22Speaker 2: to be honest, well just to the point where I
- 26:26Speaker 2: was that stopping and chatting to random people and I
- 26:28Speaker 2: just I just really enjoyed the second half. Put from
- 26:31Speaker 2: a running point of view, it was wonderful.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So you got your medal. I mean the actual moment
- 26:38Speaker 1: they put the middle on is that it sounds like
- 26:41Speaker 1: it hit you before you got your medal.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly exactly. On Tower Bridge, I was, you know, yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 2: quite overwhelmed by it, and by the time I got
- 26:51Speaker 2: to the finish, it was more just relief to.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Okay, So we're cracking on the time. The clock is ticking,
- 26:59Speaker 1: so we've got one more to go. And this is
- 27:01Speaker 1: for you. Will any particular reason for Arctic monkeys?
- 27:04Speaker 5: I mean, he doesn't love a bit of Arctic monkeys?
- 27:06Speaker 1: All right, Well, I know, let's bang it on Aravella
- 27:24Speaker 1: Arctic Monkeys twenty thirteen. That was nothing like a bit
- 27:27Speaker 1: of Arctic monkeys in the morning, So Will says, right,
- 27:31Speaker 1: and we're talking off air. I was hearing all the
- 27:33Speaker 1: gruesome tales of toenails falling off, So if you willed,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I mean, right now, we've done leading up to the start,
- 27:46Speaker 1: the first half, the second half, getting the middle, so
- 27:48Speaker 1: we're talking about afterwards, the recovery and stuff like that.
- 27:52Speaker 1: How did you feel afterwards? I mean, I've seen videos
- 27:55Speaker 1: of people and myself. I've done three marathons, so I
- 27:58Speaker 1: know what it's like when you're trying to walk upstairs.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So what was your recovery like?
- 28:05Speaker 5: Quite a few days I couldn't really walk properly. Mum
- 28:07Speaker 5: looked like she hadn't run a marathon and just carried
- 28:10Speaker 5: on with dog walks, et cetera, and made me feel
- 28:11Speaker 5: really bad about myself. Yeah, I couldn't really walk my
- 28:16Speaker 5: toenails pretty much. So you lost some toenails, Yeah, definitely,
- 28:20Speaker 5: but it's you know, there's pro that there's no maintenance now,
- 28:22Speaker 5: so yeah, there we go.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Okay, So Makayla, it sounds like you was we exaggerating
- 28:28Speaker 1: when you said you was all right.
- 28:30Speaker 4: Well, the Monday was pretty tough. You know, going downstairs
- 28:34Speaker 4: was worse than going up. But as you said, we've
- 28:37Speaker 4: got a dog, right, so gentle walks, I think, And
- 28:41Speaker 4: by the Wednesday I think I was going up and
- 28:43Speaker 4: downstairs normally, so just gentle walks.
- 28:46Speaker 3: And I'm better when i'm moving than when i'm not.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't actually as bad as she was expecting.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Oh that's good. Yeah, I feel What about you? How
- 28:57Speaker 1: many toenails did you lose?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Five? They're framed alongside I framed alongside my medal. I
- 29:05Speaker 2: was expected them to grow back by now, but still
- 29:08Speaker 2: still no anyway recovery wise. So what I can remember
- 29:13Speaker 2: when at the finish and towards the finish, I was thinking,
- 29:16Speaker 2: I can't wait to get a beer, and then when
- 29:19Speaker 2: I got a beer, I couldn't stomach the thing. I
- 29:22Speaker 2: really struggled with it. So I've been told that Guinness
- 29:24Speaker 2: is the answer, So next time, it's a Guinness. After
- 29:27Speaker 2: the finish.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Anywhere after did you ever be was it like, yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Maybe an hour? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I struggled to keep
- 29:35Speaker 2: anything down for the rest of the day, to be honest.
- 29:37Speaker 2: And then the following day I was back in the office,
- 29:39Speaker 2: back to the scene of the crime. Actually because I
- 29:41Speaker 2: work in I work in the city, So I walked
- 29:43Speaker 2: over tower Bridge the following day exactly.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It was so emotional for you. In fact, you've walked
- 29:48Speaker 1: over it several times. Yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 2: So I mean when I'm in the office, I walk
- 29:52Speaker 2: over tower Bridge every day, do you know. It's sort
- 29:54Speaker 2: of three two or three days a week, and have
- 29:56Speaker 2: done for the last two or three years. So I
- 29:58Speaker 2: sort of visualized going over tower Bridge so so many times,
- 30:02Speaker 2: and then to do it with so many people though,
- 30:03Speaker 2: it was Yeah, anyway, I'm not gonna keep on paying
- 30:05Speaker 2: all the bother.
- 30:07Speaker 1: That's a good point act. So I mean you must have,
- 30:10Speaker 1: as you say, leading up to it, you've walked over it,
- 30:12Speaker 1: walked over it, and then you thought, I'm going to be.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Sort of visualize it, yeah, and yourn't mind. Yeah, I'd
- 30:16Speaker 2: planned which song I was going to have on on
- 30:18Speaker 2: my headphones going over Tower Bridge, and then I didn't
- 30:21Speaker 2: have that on because there's just so much naughties that you.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Don't actually, because I had a lot of feedback from
- 30:27Speaker 1: runners saying it's the noisiest one they've ever been to.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Now it was your U three guys, it was your
- 30:33Speaker 1: first marathon, but I mean, did you find it noisy? Yeah?
- 30:36Speaker 2: Yeah, really noisy. It was definitely By about three hours in,
- 30:43Speaker 2: I was like, I wish I could just turn off
- 30:45Speaker 2: the noise. I don't know if you guys felt this,
- 30:47Speaker 2: so obviously you got your name on your phone charity runner.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's just constantly people go gone feel gone, feel gone,
- 30:52Speaker 2: feel And then every now and again you'd hear someone
- 30:55Speaker 2: go gone feel king and you look around like who
- 30:59Speaker 2: was that? Yeah, and it's too late. They're gone. But
- 31:02Speaker 2: someone's actually recognized you, you know, as, yeah, they actually
- 31:06Speaker 2: know you type of thing. But yeah, so so loud.
- 31:09Speaker 2: That bit, that bit for Blackfire's Tunnel is such a
- 31:12Speaker 2: nice reset relief. Although I did get overtaken by a
- 31:15Speaker 2: guy in an inflatable chicken outfit at that point, so
- 31:18Speaker 2: that was a low point.
- 31:19Speaker 1: When I was at Greenwich, the case You're Dead right
- 31:22Speaker 1: about that field because I was looking out there were
- 31:25Speaker 1: so many runners I was looking out for, and all
- 31:28Speaker 1: of a sudden a runner went by it, well like keV,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and I just called this chap out the call the
- 31:33Speaker 1: way away, you know. And I didn't see him for
- 31:35Speaker 1: about a month. I said, was that you called me
- 31:38Speaker 1: at the month and you said, yeah, yeah, he said
- 31:40Speaker 1: he just saw me at the last minute. And I
- 31:42Speaker 1: just saw him at the last minute. But yeah, it
- 31:45Speaker 1: was really spooky. What you say, Simmy Kayla. Now the
- 31:50Speaker 1: big question really to all three of you, would you
- 31:52Speaker 1: do another one? Yeah? You would?
- 31:55Speaker 4: I think I would. I sorry, men won't understand this,
- 32:00Speaker 4: but it's a little bit like childbirth.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Paying for.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I've forgotten the intensity of it, and I think you
- 32:09Speaker 4: know I would do it again. Yeah, certain things I
- 32:13Speaker 4: do differently, just my training. I would want to beat
- 32:20Speaker 4: my time. Yeah, I think I think I would.
- 32:23Speaker 3: I think I would.
- 32:25Speaker 1: That's why I wanted that when I first started to start.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Every year I try and do this get people in
- 32:30Speaker 1: that have never ever done a marathon. So now you
- 32:33Speaker 1: see you're saying you kind of learned so much, haven't you?
- 32:37Speaker 1: About all about yourself for a start involved there's a lot.
- 32:40Speaker 4: There's it's it's almost scientific. You know, all the advice
- 32:44Speaker 4: and the nutrition and the training it was.
- 32:47Speaker 1: And the mistake she made as well. You know, it
- 32:51Speaker 1: all comes back and the fact that that you say
- 32:55Speaker 1: you would like to do an no one is really
- 32:56Speaker 1: really positive. So what about you then?
- 32:59Speaker 5: Will Yeah, I'll definitely do another one. I think looking back,
- 33:02Speaker 5: I don't even know how I just did that one.
- 33:06Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is that you just have
- 33:07Speaker 5: to sign up to it, and I think committee self, Yeah, committeelfa,
- 33:11Speaker 5: just sign to them and then you've got that goal.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Then yeah, because it's hard to keep that motivation when
- 33:16Speaker 5: you haven't got a golden mind.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'll definitely do another one.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I mean, you guys seem to have the three of
- 33:20Speaker 1: you seem to have done if you like, done your
- 33:22Speaker 1: own thing. But I mean I found that being closely
- 33:26Speaker 1: associated with folks and running club, they go more handed.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I mean a few years ago we went up to
- 33:34Speaker 1: Manchester to watch and run. My Sue said to me,
- 33:37Speaker 1: do you fancy kind of Manchester to watched the marathon?
- 33:40Speaker 1: I said, no, no chance all that way. So I
- 33:42Speaker 1: turned it round and we had actually a week in
- 33:45Speaker 1: the peak district. We had a Wednesday to the Wednesday
- 33:47Speaker 1: and then we got the train into Manchester at the
- 33:50Speaker 1: weekend and it was a brilliant weekend. It really was
- 33:52Speaker 1: being a spectator. And the fact was that some of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the lower city marathons they're not a strict I mean
- 33:59Speaker 1: in London as a dictator, if the toilets are across
- 34:02Speaker 1: the road and you want to go toilet, you've got
- 34:04Speaker 1: run about ten miles an hour to get there, just
- 34:08Speaker 1: across the road, you know, whereas at Manchester you could
- 34:10Speaker 1: nip across in between the runners, you know, showing them
- 34:12Speaker 1: the respect they deserve obviously. But what about you, Phil,
- 34:15Speaker 1: would you go for another one?
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yeah? I would. In fact, I've signed up to another
- 34:18Speaker 2: one in September you, which is the Vilnius Marathon in Lithuania.
- 34:24Speaker 2: A bit of a random choice, but it fits well
- 34:27Speaker 2: with the hockey season. It's the weekend before the first
- 34:30Speaker 2: match of the next season.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I will say actually that when I did my first
- 34:35Speaker 1: marathon in the eighties, there was hardly any around. But
- 34:39Speaker 1: now I mean I'm getting feedback there's two runners, one
- 34:44Speaker 1: particular runner I want to get in. We've done the
- 34:46Speaker 1: Big six, I can't name them, but it's like San
- 34:48Speaker 1: Francisco to Berlin, Boston. Yeah, and they've completed them and
- 34:53Speaker 1: I'm trying to get them in to have a chat.
- 34:56Speaker 1: But now the marathon running is global. We know it's global,
- 35:00Speaker 1: and it's just such a massive thing and the opportunities
- 35:03Speaker 1: are there. Sometimes we two companies, Sometimes you can do
- 35:06Speaker 1: it on your own. We went to Berlin a few
- 35:08Speaker 1: years ago because my partner, Sue, she had run the
- 35:11Speaker 1: Berlin Marathon in recent years a long time ago and
- 35:14Speaker 1: wanted to go back there, so we mixed it in
- 35:16Speaker 1: with a holiday and I really enjoyed it. It was great.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Now I will say this, we are absolutely running out
- 35:21Speaker 1: of time. I've got a minute and a half, So
- 35:26Speaker 1: last word from you then will while you're there, will
- 35:29Speaker 1: thanks for coming on. There's been a great journey and
- 35:32Speaker 1: I'm glad I've got at least three of you back
- 35:33Speaker 1: in the studio. Anything else you want to say before
- 35:36Speaker 1: you go.
- 35:36Speaker 5: I just thanks very much for having us and obviously
- 35:39Speaker 5: give us an opportunity to speak about it, and anybody's
- 35:41Speaker 5: thinking about it, just sign up and just do it.
- 35:43Speaker 1: And just yeah, makaylab what about you?
- 35:46Speaker 4: Yeah to Echo, what will says, thanks Kevin for having
- 35:48Speaker 4: us on twice. Yeah and yeah, if I can inspire
- 35:52Speaker 4: any fifty something women, if I can do it, I
- 35:56Speaker 4: think almost anybody can do it.
- 35:57Speaker 3: It was amazing experience.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Okay, Phil, I'd like to say thanks to my wife
- 36:02Speaker 2: and kids for putting up with me because I did
- 36:04Speaker 2: a lot of training and there that took its toll,
- 36:07Speaker 2: I think, so thank you very much, and also to
- 36:09Speaker 2: people that donated to the charity as well.
- 36:11Speaker 1: We do, you know what, we could do another two
- 36:13Speaker 1: hours on this because we haven't even got to the
- 36:15Speaker 1: fundraising and stuff like that, but the clock is ticking.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I want to thank all three of you for coming
- 36:19Speaker 1: in because I've got a wrap up show now, and
- 36:22Speaker 1: so that's it from me for today. Now I'm heading
- 36:24Speaker 1: off to Deal to compare the Cliff Top Challenge, which
- 36:26Speaker 1: is raised two hundred and sixty thousand pounds in the
- 36:29Speaker 1: last eleven years for breast cancer now and then tomorrow
- 36:33Speaker 1: I'm on the mic at the nice work Hawkers ten
- 36:35Speaker 1: k in the World of Kent. But I'll be back
- 36:38Speaker 1: on Thursdays one till two for another sports show right
- 36:40Speaker 1: here on radio folks. So good luck to Jemmy and
- 36:43Speaker 1: Sophie of course in London and I'll see you all
- 36:46Speaker 1: on Thursday. Thanks for coming in, it's been a great
- 36:48Speaker 1: show on one oh five point nine ever, online at
