  Finding your safe place In a world that feels increasingly
• 0:16
  uncertain, everyone is looking for somewhere safe.

  Some people find it in friendships, some in
• 0:22
  entertainment, some in money or status, and none of those things
• 0:26
  are necessarily bad. But they all have one thing in
• 0:29
  common. They can fail you at the worst
• 0:32
  possible moment. Proverbs chapter 18, verse 10
• 0:36
  offers something completely different.
• 0:39
  The name of the Lord is a strong tower.
• 0:41
  The righteous man runs into it and is safe.
• 0:44
  And then verse 11 gives the contrast.
• 0:46
  The rich man's wealth is his strong city.
• 0:49
  He thinks of it as a wall. One of these is a real
• 0:52
  stronghold, one of them is an illusion.
• 0:56
  Money and status feel like walls until the crisis comes.
• 1:00
  But God's name, his character, his faithfulness, that is a
• 1:03
  tower that actually holds. David in First Samuel chapter 22
• 1:08
  was a fugitive. Enemies were after him, and yet
• 1:12
  he didn't hide alone. People rallied to him and he
• 1:16
  found community in the middle of the chaos.
• 1:18
  God was building something even in the running, even in the
• 1:22
  hiding. David's safety wasn't a
• 1:25
  comfortable house with a great security system.
• 1:28
  It was the presence and protection of God.
• 1:31
  Psalm 52 verse one calls out the arrogance of trusting in power
• 1:35
  and wealth. Why do you boast of evil, O
• 1:38
  mighty man? The steadfast love of God
• 1:41
  endures all the day. That word steadfast is key.
• 1:45
  God's love doesn't have off days.
• 1:47
  It doesn't dry up when the situation gets complicated.
• 1:51
  It endures all the day, every day, every moment, every season.
• 1:56
  For you today, whether things are going well or completely
• 1:59
  falling apart, this is the invitation.

  Run to God first. Not as a last resort when
• 2:05
  everything else fails. Not as a backup plan as your
• 2:09
  first instinct. The strong tower is always open.
• 2:13
  You don't have to earn your way in or clean yourself up before
• 2:16
  you enter. You just run.
• 2:19
  And like David, as you do that, you'll often find that God also
• 2:24
  surrounds you with people who become part of your safety
• 2:27
  community. Mentors, loyal friends who show
• 2:30
  up in the hard times. Safety in God and safety in
• 2:33
  community go together. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank you for being our strong tower, a safe
• 2:41
  place that never fails and never closes.
• 2:44
  When we're tempted to find safety in things that ultimately
• 2:47
  can't hold us, redirect us back to you.
• 2:50
  Help us to run to you first, in fear, in stress, in uncertainty.
• 2:55
  Surround us with godly community and teach us to trust in your
• 2:58
  steadfast love above all else, in Jesus name, Amen.

  strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.

  Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Yahweh's priests.

  David said to Abiathar, I knew on that day when Doge the

  Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul, I am

  responsible for the death of all the persons of your father's

  God will likewise destroy you forever.

  He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root

  The righteous also will see it and fear and laugh at him,

  saying, Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his

  strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and

  strengthened himself in his wickedness.

  But As for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.

  I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.

  I will give you thanks forever because you have done it.
