Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 20th.
- 0:11Finding your safe place In a world that feels increasingly
- 0:16uncertain, everyone is looking for somewhere safe.
- 0:20Some people find it in friendships, some in
- 0:22entertainment, some in money or status, and none of those things
- 0:26are necessarily bad. But they all have one thing in
- 0:29common. They can fail you at the worst
- 0:32possible moment. Proverbs chapter 18, verse 10
- 0:36offers something completely different.
- 0:39The name of the Lord is a strong tower.
- 0:41The righteous man runs into it and is safe.
- 0:44And then verse 11 gives the contrast.
- 0:46The rich man's wealth is his strong city.
- 0:49He thinks of it as a wall. One of these is a real
- 0:52stronghold, one of them is an illusion.
- 0:56Money and status feel like walls until the crisis comes.
- 1:00But God's name, his character, his faithfulness, that is a
- 1:03tower that actually holds. David in First Samuel chapter 22
- 1:08was a fugitive. Enemies were after him, and yet
- 1:12he didn't hide alone. People rallied to him and he
- 1:16found community in the middle of the chaos.
- 1:18God was building something even in the running, even in the
- 1:22hiding. David's safety wasn't a
- 1:25comfortable house with a great security system.
- 1:28It was the presence and protection of God.
- 1:31Psalm 52 verse one calls out the arrogance of trusting in power
- 1:35and wealth. Why do you boast of evil, O
- 1:38mighty man? The steadfast love of God
- 1:41endures all the day. That word steadfast is key.
- 1:45God's love doesn't have off days.
- 1:47It doesn't dry up when the situation gets complicated.
- 1:51It endures all the day, every day, every moment, every season.
- 1:56For you today, whether things are going well or completely
- 1:59falling apart, this is the invitation.
- 2:02Run to God first. Not as a last resort when
- 2:05everything else fails. Not as a backup plan as your
- 2:09first instinct. The strong tower is always open.
- 2:13You don't have to earn your way in or clean yourself up before
- 2:16you enter. You just run.
- 2:19And like David, as you do that, you'll often find that God also
- 2:24surrounds you with people who become part of your safety
- 2:27community. Mentors, loyal friends who show
- 2:30up in the hard times. Safety in God and safety in
- 2:33community go together. Let's pray.
- 2:37Heavenly Father, thank you for being our strong tower, a safe
- 2:41place that never fails and never closes.
- 2:44When we're tempted to find safety in things that ultimately
- 2:47can't hold us, redirect us back to you.
- 2:50Help us to run to you first, in fear, in stress, in uncertainty.
- 2:55Surround us with godly community and teach us to trust in your
- 2:58steadfast love above all else, in Jesus name, Amen.
- 3:05What if the road ahead is not meant to be rushed, feared, or
- 3:08walked alone? Going with God is a prayer
- 3:11script series for believers who need more than encouragement for
- 3:15the journey. They need prayer language for
- 3:17walking with the Lord in real life, right where they are.
- 3:21Through themes of pace, peace, paths, provision, and
- 3:24protection, this series helps you surrender urgency, receive
- 3:28steadiness, seek direction, depend on God's care, and pray
- 3:32with confidence over the road before you.
- 3:34Whether you feel stretched thin, uncertain, weary, or hungry for
- 3:39a closer walk with God, Going with God invites you to move
- 3:42forward with a deeper awareness of His presence and faithful
- 3:45care. Order now on Amazon or visit

- 3:56with God in today's three-year Bible reading plan.
- 4:00Proverbs, Chapter 18, Verses 10 to 11 World English Bible
- 4:05Yahweh's name is a strong tower. The righteous run to him and are
- 4:09safe. The rich man's wealth is his
- 4:12strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.
- 4:17First Samuel Chapter 22 World English Bible David therefore
- 4:22departed from there and escaped to a Dullam's cave.
- 4:25When his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they
- 4:28went down there to him. Everyone who was in distress,
- 4:32everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented
- 4:36gathered themselves to him and he became captain over them.
- 4:40They were with him about 400 men.
- 4:43David went from there to mis pay of Moab and he said to the king
- 4:47of Moab, please let my father and my mother come out with you
- 4:51until I know what God will do for me.
- 4:54He brought them before the king of Moab and they lived with him
- 4:57all the time that David was in the stronghold.
- 5:01The prophet Gad said to David, don't stay in the stronghold,
- 5:04depart and go into the land of Judah.
- 5:07Then David departed and came into the forest of Harith.
- 5:11Saul heard that David was discovered with the men who were
- 5:14with him. Now Saul was sitting in Jibah
- 5:18under the tamarisk tree in Rama with his spear in his hand, and
- 5:22all his servants were standing around him.
- 5:25Saul said to his servants who stood around him.
- 5:27Here now, you Benjamites, will the son of Jesse give everyone
- 5:31of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of
- 5:35thousands and captains of hundreds, that all of you have
- 5:38conspired against me? And there is no one who
- 5:42discloses to me when my son makes a treaty with the son of
- 5:45Jesse. And there is none of you who is
- 5:47sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my
- 5:51servant against me to. Lie in wait, as it is today.
- 5:55Then Doge the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul,
- 5:58answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to
- 6:03Ahimletch the son of Ahitub. He inquired of Yahweh for him,
- 6:07gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
- 6:11Then the king sent to call Ahimletch the priest, the son of
- 6:15Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were in
- 6:19Nob, and they all came to the king.
- 6:22Saul said, Here now you son of Ahatub, he answered, Here I am,
- 6:26my Lord. Saul said to him, Why have you
- 6:29conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you
- 6:31have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God
- 6:35for him, that he should rise against me to lie?
- 6:38In wait, as it is today. Then Aheimlich answered the
- 6:42king, and said, Who among all your servants is so faithful as
- 6:46David? Who is the King's son-in-law,
- 6:49captain of your bodyguard, and honored in your house?
- 6:52Have I today begun to inquire of God for him, be it far from me.
- 6:57Don't let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to
- 7:00all the House of my father, for your servant knows nothing of
- 7:03all this, less or more. The king said.
- 7:06You shall surely die Aheim Lech you and all your father's house.
- 7:11The king said to the guard who stood about him.
- 7:14Turn and kill the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also
- 7:17is with David and because they knew that he fled and didn't
- 7:21disclose it to me. But the servants of the king
- 7:24wouldn't put out their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.
- 7:28The king said to Doge. Turn and attack the priests.
- 7:32Doge the Edomite turned and he attacked the priests, and he
- 7:35killed on that day 85 people who wore a linen ephod.
- 7:39He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the
- 7:42sword, both men and women, children and nursing babies and
- 7:46cattle and donkeys and sheep with the edge of the sword.
- 7:50One of the sons of Ahemletch, the son of Ahitub named
- 7:53Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.
- 7:57Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Yahweh's priests.
- 8:01David said to Abiathar, I knew on that day when Doge the
- 8:05Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul, I am
- 8:08responsible for the death of all the persons of your father's
- 8:11house. Stay with me.
- 8:14Don't be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life,
- 8:17for you will be safe with me. Psalm Chapter 52 World English
- 8:21Bible Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
- 8:25God's loving kindness endures continually.
- 8:28Your tongue plots destruction like a sharp razor working
- 8:31deceitfully. You love evil more than good,
- 8:34lying rather than speaking the truth.
- 8:37You love all devouring words, you deceitful tongue.
- 8:41God will likewise destroy you forever.
- 8:43He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root
- 8:46you out of the land of the living.
- 8:49The righteous also will see it and fear and laugh at him,
- 8:52saying, Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his
- 8:56strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and
- 9:00strengthened himself in his wickedness.
- 9:02But As for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.
- 9:07I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.
- 9:10I will give you thanks forever because you have done it.
- 9:13I will hope in your name, for it is good in the presence of your
