- 1:44The. And welcome back to the Boundary
- 1:49Corner podcast, a part of the College Huddle network along
- 1:52with my partners, Brian Siegler, Jonathan Talley and Shelton
- 1:56Moss. I am Curtis Wilson and this
- 1:58episode is brought to you by Doctor Jeremy Counts down at
- 2:01Counts Family Pharmacy, your friendly neighborhood pharmacy
- 2:04located three O 1 S Main St. in Blacksburg.
- 2:09Welcome aboard everybody. How we doing this wonderful
- 2:11Wednesday evening? Curtis got the hat, he got the
- 2:14eggnog. He's fucking ready for
- 2:17Christmas. So, ready for Christmas?
- 2:21I got. One day of work, I claim I'm
- 2:23going to work Monday and when, which means I'm a log on and
- 2:26touch the button for six or seven hours.
- 2:29But I'm it's, I'm ready. I'm ready for Christmas.
- 2:32What about y'all? Sheldon, how are you feeling
- 2:36Ready. I'm ready, man I'm I, I know
- 2:40it's a sign when I'm getting old that, you know, most of my
- 2:43Christmas wish list gifts are like, you know, household
- 2:45appliances and standard basic electronic devices to help me
- 2:50with work. So kind of takes the joy out of
- 2:53it, I guess. But still excited to see my
- 2:55family, Yes. Got that that that portable
- 3:00extra monitor for his laptop on his list.
- 3:04Yes, I did. Yes, that's exactly right.
- 3:06I did. For my birth, for my birthday, I
- 3:09got a food processor and I was like super happy 'cause I hate
- 3:14grade cheese. So if you make your Mac and
- 3:17cheese, I hate grade. If you got a food processor, it
- 3:19definitely helps. So did did.
- 3:21Did you also get? Do you also have the chopper
- 3:23thing for when you do onions and pepper?
- 3:25Chop the chop. I have the thing for the food
- 3:28processor with the top like the little insert thing for the food
- 3:31processor. You got to have it.
- 3:33So I haven't got the insert that chops the like what you're
- 3:36talking about, but you can you can get one that does it.
- 3:41Like Shelton's actually putting the monitor up right now.
- 3:44This is actually. Yeah, I got AI, got AI, got a
- 3:46small crappy one because I got to watch this UVA Memphis game.
- 3:49They're going down to the wire. Double team, double time.
- 3:53Oh hold on y'all, we got a couple things to unload.
- 3:57Something might have just broke on Twitter.
- 3:59Can somebody check that out real quick?
- 4:02Yo say big pick up, who is it yo?
- 4:06I'm trying to get on Twitter live in living person.
- 4:10Let's see who's quicker. Also him.
- 4:13I mean, I saw 247 say comms were down, but I, I, I haven't seen
- 4:16you. That was like 10 minutes ago.
- 4:18Kobe Crawford shout out the man doing the murder Sherrod Cavill
- 4:23has committed. So there is one.
- 4:26Hey, hey. Just in time, guys, Just in
- 4:30time. My boy Yost broke it for us.
- 4:33Yo, thanks man. Thank you.
- 4:35Coming through in a little holiday meeting, you hadn't had
- 4:37the I just sent the the message that they put, you know, 247 put
- 4:43out there about Cosby and down. So glad that that came through
- 4:47right after that, apparently. Nice.
- 4:50And. Koval has one year eligibility
- 4:53and apparently trying to get to. I know I talked to our buddy Dan
- 4:59Pulse over at Teradon. He said he read because of what
- 5:04happened last year with him getting banged and getting
- 5:05injured, he's trying to get an extra year of eligibility.
- 5:08So at least one, there is a safety spot kind of taken right
- 5:12there from a guy that again, originally we were down to the
- 5:16wire form a few years ago. So that's good stuff.
- 5:20I am really glad. It's like almost in the stars.
- 5:23These guys have been seeing Jekyll and Hyde Curtis in the
- 5:25chat the last week. Ain't got no damn body visiting.
- 5:31Can't get a coach, can't get a transport portal guy.
- 5:33I'm up and down. This makes my night.
- 5:36Thank you for making my. We, we were going to, we were
- 5:39going to lament that, you know, we, we made it this damn far and
- 5:43didn't have a commit to talk about from the portal yet.
- 5:46The the damn episode is even titled Portal Panic.
- 5:50Yeah. Portal panic folks.
- 5:52And then we we break 1 live. We know we plugged in like that.
- 5:58See, we usually go on Tuesdays. We moved it back to Wednesday
- 6:01because we knew what was happening.
- 6:02That's how plugged we are because we got phone calls
- 6:06yesterday. We made some calls.
- 6:07Sheldon got it in for us. We ready to roll.
- 6:11So I got some news going on over here at the Tally household.
- 6:15First of all, it's been, it's been a rough couple of days.
- 6:21My wife, you know, she works a lot and she just so happened be
- 6:25off to go to a game and it's on the other side of town.
- 6:29So she picked up about four of the boys and she was taking them
- 6:32to the game. It's been raining for like 3
- 6:34days. Get them, they get almost there
- 6:39like probably 5 miles away from the gym and they get hit in the
- 6:42back. So her car's jacked up in the
- 6:44back right now. And then the next day we wake up
- 6:49in the upstairs bathroom flooded.
- 6:51So, Oh no, that's been some, that's been some fun stuff going
- 6:55on over here at the telly household.
- 6:56But I can say you always got to have something good that happens
- 7:01with something bad. We got new Internet.
- 7:04We got new Internet at the house.
- 7:06I am confident that we ready to roll.
- 7:09Fuck you AT&T, we would Google Fiber now baby.
- 7:13We got in the transfer portal for Internet and I think we
- 7:17going to be doing better now, so hopefully we don't have no
- 7:20glitches. Hey, hey, if you got the if you
- 7:24got fiber, the only thing is going to be you got you got to
- 7:26get the whole home coverage. If you got that, I think you're
- 7:29set because yeah, man, that that should be.
- 7:31Pretty yeah some yeah they added some stuff that I didn't I don't
- 7:35think we had what AT&T it is Oh yeah we got to put this upstairs
- 7:39so you got you know range up here as well I'm like what the
- 7:42fuck they didn't put no range up here is that why I kept on
- 7:45getting kicked off stuff but anyway it's been working good
- 7:49and I'm excited about it so Sheldon when you talk about
- 7:53being older and and and enjoying things like I got the.
- 7:58Internet for Christmas. So I'm happy, man.
- 8:03Shut up, Jerry. What's up Jerry, Jerry is who I
- 8:06need to be talking to about household appliances.
- 8:09If y'all need the know anything, I don't know if y'all follow
- 8:12Jerry on TikTok, you need to message her and get to TikTok
- 8:16cooking home furnishings from home furnishings, everything.
- 8:22She is the plug I'm talking about.
- 8:25Maybe like 2-3 years ago she sent me a care package of spices
- 8:29and when I tell you it was the bomb.
- 8:31Thebomb.com baby. So shout out to Jerry.
- 8:34That's my supposed to. Shout out, Jerry, All right?
- 8:37We got a lot obviously to unload tonight.
- 8:39We're going to be doing a lot of fun stuff.
- 8:42It's not Tuesday, but we're going to tell the truth about
- 8:43things. Obviously we have missed we
- 8:47since y'all last. We were last here, which was
- 8:49before the UVA game. We've had the signing of the
- 8:52class of 25. We're going to talk about that.
- 8:54We're going to talk about the portal.
- 8:55We're going to hit a little bit on Wit's interview.
- 8:58We're going to obviously talk about coaching changes, a big
- 9:02coaching decision yesterday, but I do want to bring up something
- 9:04and I'm going to also, if you don't mind putting it up there,
- 9:07Brian from Steven, because it is something you do address with
- 9:13what happened. Unfortunately, gay Williams
- 9:17father did pass away this week and right now, you know, I I
- 9:22read his post it it it takes me back.
- 9:25I was a very young man when I lost my father and for him, you
- 9:30know, for Pokey Nation, sending prayers and then thoughts and
- 9:33then whatever you can, good vibes, whatever you may believe
- 9:36in, whatever you may not believe in to Gabe right now because
- 9:40obviously through the holidays, losing a parent, one of those
- 9:44tough things. So Gabe, you were nice enough a
- 9:48few years ago to join us live and interview you.
- 9:52Your dad did a hell of a job with you young man and trust me
- 9:56he will be watching down from you and from just talking to
- 10:01you. I believe whatever you do in
- 10:02your life you're going to make him proud.
- 10:04So just you know, keep your thoughts and prayers out there.
- 10:08If y'all have anything to say gentlemen, y'all feel free.
- 10:12No, man, I think you kind of hit the nail on the head with that,
- 10:14man. You know, that's definitely not
- 10:17news that you, you know, want to have to talk about or, you know,
- 10:21you do want to have to address. But stuff like that happens,
- 10:26man. You never know what somebody's
- 10:28mind is, what somebody's, you know, heart is and well, how
- 10:31they're feeling. So just reaching out and saying,
- 10:34you know, I'm thinking about you, you know, we care about
- 10:37you, we love you, whatever the case may be.
- 10:40This is the time for it, man, because it's right around the
- 10:42holiday times. You lose a a family member in
- 10:45that fashion. And then he's also dealing with
- 10:47an injury, like you said, that young man is, you know, we've
- 10:52talked to him multiple times. He's been nothing but
- 10:55respectful. And again, like you said,
- 10:57Curtis, just I think whatever Gabe, if you if you watching,
- 11:01when you see this man, I think whatever you do, like, first of
- 11:04all, hope your nation's got your back and you going to make your
- 11:08family proud man. So we definitely sending prayers
- 11:11up for the Williams family at this time.
- 11:15Yeah, obviously in in this situation, you nobody wants to
- 11:18to to be in this situation. And obviously already the the
- 11:22the mentals of recovering from an injury while you, you know,
- 11:25are, are mourning the death of of your father.
- 11:27That's got to be just a a whole lot on him right now.
- 11:31So anybody that can reach out and just, you know, let him know
- 11:34that that they're behind him, that they're thinking of him.
- 11:37Anything like that can can lift, lift his spirit.
- 11:40So, you know, do that in the in this moment.
- 11:43And you know, like, like, like you said, Tally, like you said,
- 11:46Curtis Hokie nations got your back and, and, and we're riding
- 11:49with you through this regardless of, you know, what the future
- 11:52holds for you. Absolutely.
- 11:56All right, so let's now turn it over to some more fun stuff,
- 11:58some more football related stuff.
- 12:00And this started on Monday, I believe, when there was a rumor
- 12:05that Michael Vick was interested in potentially taking the
- 12:08Sacramento State job, which is way out in California, or the
- 12:11Norfolk State job right down the street from where he grew up
- 12:15down in the Tidewater and announced yesterday.
- 12:19Mike Vick is now officially the head coach of the Norfolk State
- 12:23Spartans. First of all, I, I know I texted
- 12:29Dwight last night and said because that's his cousin,
- 12:32that's his family. That's a big step.
- 12:34It's a big thing for Michael from where he was, you know, 15
- 12:37years ago, 16 years ago. What do y'all, what do y'all
- 12:41think about it? I mean, I know we all probably
- 12:43have some thoughts. Anybody want to kick it off
- 12:45here? I think it's incredible, man.
- 12:49I will let Tally ride first. I know he's got a lot to say on
- 12:52this so. I was just going to say, man, I
- 12:54mean, you hear so much stuff about, you know, what somebody
- 12:59wants to do with the law. He don't want to do this or he
- 13:01wants to do this or, you know, do you have people say what?
- 13:04You get Michael Vick to be the quarterback culture.
- 13:06We should get, you know, Michael Vick to be the OC And some
- 13:09people say he don't want to coach.
- 13:10He's making this money doing this.
- 13:12And you never know, you know, you never know what somebody
- 13:15wants to do or what's on their mind to do.
- 13:18But now we know that he wants to coach.
- 13:21So again, I met, I met, met Mike in person.
- 13:28And it was 10 minutes of just me and him having a conversation at
- 13:34a Cracker Barrel here in Huntsville, AL.
- 13:36And he made me want to run through a wall.
- 13:40So I know when he gets in front of 17/18/19 year olds, just
- 13:45having a, you know, getting them prepared for a game and just
- 13:49talking about his life and things he's went through.
- 13:51And he's from that area, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:54He's he's him being from there connecting with those kids and
- 13:58say, hey, whatever you're going through.
- 14:00I went through this stuff and I made it to this level, which was
- 14:03the highest level #1 draft pick, you know, did everything just
- 14:08about that he could do with his football career.
- 14:12I think it's going to be incredible for, you know, just
- 14:15him and the families and the, and the kids that he'll be able
- 14:19to touch. And I'm excited to see who he,
- 14:23where he goes from there, you know what I'm saying?
- 14:25Because you never know. And sometimes, you know, for
- 14:28black men in coaching, you just got to get a start, you know
- 14:32what I'm saying? Like for whatever Dionne is, you
- 14:36know, and I'm not trying to make it black and white, but I'm just
- 14:37saying sometimes there are politics that are involved and
- 14:41you just got to get a start. Like everybody knew who Dionne
- 14:44was. And I feel some type of way
- 14:46about Dionne, the things he says or things he does.
- 14:49But I got to give Dionne his credit.
- 14:52He went to Jackson State and he did, for the most part, what he
- 14:57said he was going to do. He got Travis Hunter for the
- 15:01most part where he said he was going to get him as well as
- 15:04other players that he's coached. So Dion got his start similar
- 15:08to, you know, kind of what what, what Victoria's doing.
- 15:11So I'm excited to see where it takes him, man.
- 15:14I mean, I hope it, I hope it crosses paths with Vt because,
- 15:18man, we've used him for so much for 30 years or however long
- 15:23it's been. Well, he gets to use his own
- 15:25name a little bit now. I mean, he's still forever going
- 15:27to be a part of Virginia Tech, but I mean, like, we can't call
- 15:31him up to come to a game and say, hey, we're honoring Michael
- 15:33Vick today and he's going to be there because guess what?
- 15:35He's going to be playing in his own games.
- 15:37I mean, he's going to be coaching his own games.
- 15:39So we got to find a way to incorporate that into what we're
- 15:42doing. But it's not about Virginia
- 15:43Tech. It's about him going to that
- 15:46school and and leaving his mark. So kudos to Mike Vick and the
- 15:50Victoria family. Yeah, I'm excited for him.
- 15:53I think this is a good opportunity for for him to
- 15:56really, you know, get get a good start in, in college football.
- 16:00And it sounds like, you know, he's been wanting to pursue this
- 16:04for a while. I know there was some
- 16:05flirtations, you know, with some smaller pro leagues and things
- 16:09like that. So it's good to see him, you
- 16:12know, get his foot in the door with, with college football
- 16:15here, doing it in his own backyard.
- 16:19That's always, that's always got to be something fun that you can
- 16:21talk about. And I, I think it's going to be
- 16:24a good foundation for him to build off of.
- 16:28And I know Tally, you made the, the Dion comparison.
- 16:30It's hard not to write. I mean, you talk about, you
- 16:34know, players that their brand and the juice that they bring
- 16:41kind of follows them where they go, right?
- 16:44It's like, I mean, there's probably 2nd and none Dion, but
- 16:47the, the, the Victoria aura is still, is still nothing to
- 16:51sneeze at, you know, comparatively.
- 16:55And, and that alone, I think is going to be something that's
- 16:58going to have people interested in what Norfolk State is about.
- 17:02So I'm excited to see what, what, what comes from that.
- 17:05I'm excited to see what that staff build out.
- 17:06Looks like. Sounds like Dwight's going to
- 17:09have a, a piece in that. What piece that is will remains
- 17:13to be seen, but that's exciting for, for him as well.
- 17:16And, you know, just the, the whole circle there.
- 17:19And I'm, I'm really excited to see what they do with that.
- 17:23Yeah, I think, I think it's I think it's a good hire.
- 17:25Obviously Norfolk State's a program that's, you know,
- 17:27struggled for some time. And I think, you know, a lot of
- 17:29times at that level, you know, it's it's worth taking a chance
- 17:32on a guy who, you know, could potentially bring some
- 17:34recruiting prowess to that to that school, especially being,
- 17:37you know, in the MIAC where, you know, it's really just about,
- 17:40you know, getting the players and and, you know, trying to put
- 17:43them in a system where they can succeed relative to their
- 17:45competitions. So, you know, coaching on HBCU
- 17:48is a great fit and I think, you know, I obviously don't know
- 17:51what's going on in his head, but I feel like if he, you know, can
- 17:53can string something together and, you know, have some success
- 17:56here, maybe something down the road popping up even bigger.
- 17:58So obviously just take it one day at a time.
- 18:00But I think it's I think it's a great opportunity for for both
- 18:02parties here. Agreed.
- 18:04It's a it's a great opportunity for both parties.
- 18:06It's a great opportunity for Mike again, from where he was
- 18:09and everything that happened years ago and how he got back in
- 18:14the league, turn things around his media career again.
- 18:18Brian, you mentioned doing some consulting with some of the some
- 18:22of the spring ball leagues and now this.
- 18:25So great for my again, big congratulations to him.
- 18:31Can't wait to see what it holds down there for him, what the
- 18:34staff looks like. So that's going to be pretty
- 18:37sweet. Like Speaking of Staffs, it took
- 18:41long enough, damn it for them, but staff changes did take place
- 18:46last week. Curtis does not have to throw
- 18:49things this week. Everybody, it was, it was, it
- 18:52was going to get ugly if, if, if these didn't.
- 18:54Happen. Oh, it was going to be real ugly
- 18:55if none has been announced by the time we went this week.
- 18:57So anyway, obviously defensive coordinator Chris Maher out
- 19:01offensive line coach, Ron Crooks out strength and conditioning
- 19:06coach to white ball. Out.
- 19:08So let's kind of go back around. I'm going to start with Shelton
- 19:11on this one. Shelton, just your reactions,
- 19:16your feelings when it was announced, did they, do you feel
- 19:19like the right guys unfortunately met their end?
- 19:25Yeah, I do think it was the right decision.
- 19:26I was very surprised to see Mark go just because I felt like
- 19:29pride would kind of, you know, put his loyalty to him above
- 19:32above the team. But he didn't and and credit
- 19:33surprise prove me wrong. So I wrote about this for the
- 19:37key play, mostly focusing on the offensive line this week and and
- 19:40talking about the issue with Crook.
- 19:42It seemed like from what Price said in his press conference, he
- 19:44was more frustrated with the relationships and recruiting
- 19:47aspect of Crook's tenure here. You know, they just did not
- 19:51recruit the bodies they needed to in the offensive line.
- 19:53I think there were some things that were mishandled earlier on
- 19:56in Price tenure that kind of hurt them there.
- 19:58But the last two seasons they just have not been able to land
- 20:00guys. And I know there's they've sent
- 20:02out some offers. But you're looking at 7 O Lyman
- 20:05recruited in the last two cycles combined, and that includes the
- 20:08portal as well, which is just inexcusable given, you know, how
- 20:12many bodies they need and they're already, you know,
- 20:14losing guys left and right on the current offensive line.
- 20:16So I think that change kind of had to happen.
- 20:19Development didn't seem to be great either with Marv.
- 20:22I mean, it was kind of a it was kind of a weird situation where
- 20:25like the defensive stats were pretty good, but it was somewhat
- 20:28of a mirage just because tech faced so many backup
- 20:30quarterbacks the entire season, like all their wins where it
- 20:32gets backup quarterbacks and all their losses were to, you know,
- 20:35decent starting quarterbacks. So you kind of have to take that
- 20:37with a little bit of a grain of assault.
- 20:40You know, obviously you had, you know, bad situational football.
- 20:42The lake game collapses. You know, clearly that's part
- 20:45partly on triggering the conditioning.
- 20:46I think, you know, maybe a little bit more than we thought
- 20:50just because, you know, if you, you know, you can kind of see
- 20:54teams wear down late in games. Tech gave up two touchdowns in
- 20:57their two overtime losses to Syracuse and Vanderbilt.
- 21:00And I think there was a combined 6 plays in those two losses.
- 21:03So they were clearly just completely uncompetitive late in
- 21:05games. So, so yeah, I mean, it just had
- 21:08to happen. There's probably, probably one,
- 21:10maybe two more staffers that would have liked to see maybe
- 21:12move on, but, you know, probably made the right decision for the
- 21:14program. So we'll we'll leave it be for
- 21:16now. Curtis, you're muted if you're
- 21:23talking. Yeah.
- 21:25Saying tally your turn. Oh, OK.
- 21:28Oh man, where to start? Fucking fire them all.
- 21:33Everybody can go. That's how I felt.
- 21:36You know what I'm saying? Get rid of everybody you've
- 21:39been. You've been putting that.
- 21:40Opinion for a month now. Everybody can go where I could
- 21:43go to if he they, we knew he wasn't going to get fired
- 21:47because it just, you know, that ain't in the cards.
- 21:49But I don't know. It was kind of like, Shelton
- 21:53said with with the online recruiting, it was like, man,
- 21:57you just can't, you can't win like that.
- 21:59You cannot not recruit the online or get anybody in the
- 22:04portal or I don't know what we was doing.
- 22:07You know, we sitting on our hands and we don't have enough
- 22:10bodies to rotate in and you rotate in or keep people in that
- 22:15probably don't need to be in. Long story short, I was OK with
- 22:18the, you know, it, it is what it is on that.
- 22:21I was happy that the online coach was gone.
- 22:24I hated that we went through so many online coaches, you know,
- 22:28in, in the amount of years that we have.
- 22:30But you got to keep going till you get the right one.
- 22:33I guess that's the that's the main thing.
- 22:34And then I don't know, man, I'm just, I'm still, I'm waiting on
- 22:38the defensive side of the defensive coordinator job to see
- 22:46what happens or what they bring in because I don't know, man.
- 22:48I, I'm frustrated about it. And I don't know where they're
- 22:53going to go with that because I'm thinking like, OK, if you
- 22:55get rid of your defensive coordinator, but you not getting
- 22:58rid of any other defensive guys, what coordinator is going to
- 23:03come in and just be like, OK, I'm just going to coach with
- 23:05what you have. Most coordinators are going to
- 23:07say, I need to bring some people with me.
- 23:10I need to bring my whoever D line coach, I need to bring my
- 23:16cornerbacks coach. So it's probably going to be
- 23:20like, OK, I'm going to give you full range to the defense
- 23:22because this is where we were struggling at and I need you to
- 23:25come in and fix it. Or is he going to say, oh, well,
- 23:29no, you have to coach with my guys because I'm loyal to them.
- 23:32You know, I feel like it was a scapegoat kind of just to get
- 23:35rid of the defensive coordinator at this point until I see what
- 23:39happens next. But what I think is going to
- 23:41happen is they're going to go, hey, we're going to do this and
- 23:45it's going to be some kind of intern hire thing or I'm going
- 23:51to be pissed about that. So I'd like to see what they do
- 23:54next before I can really, really judge how I feel about it.
- 23:57I can, I can tell you that I can already judge strength and
- 24:01conditioning. Coach, get the fuck out.
- 24:04You can go. When I seen who was it was it
- 24:12was it Clemson? They stiff armed, they stiff
- 24:15armed Kelly Lawson and he started running like a a
- 24:18werewolf on this, like who was that?
- 24:22It was somebody. Anyway, I was like, man, he too,
- 24:25he, he, he looks too good to be not making those tackles.
- 24:29We ain't getting people to the ground.
- 24:31You know, I think, Shelton said. And I know I'm rambling a little
- 24:34bit, but I know Shelton keeps up with a lot of stats for me and
- 24:37he talked about how unlucky Auburn was as a team.
- 24:42I think we was pretty unfucking lucky.
- 24:44Like if you get Cam Ward on the ground, then the game's over.
- 24:49We missed that tackle, they're catching balls on their back.
- 24:53We wrap up, we have the perfect play call when we send the blitz
- 24:57against Clemson and we get to the quarterback and next thing
- 25:01you know, he escapes and throws it above his head and they get a
- 25:08touchdown from that. So stuff like that, man, I don't
- 25:10know. So I, I liked Marv.
- 25:13I didn't like Marv for certain reasons.
- 25:15I did like him for other reasons.
- 25:16I'm not saying I'm against the the the firing, but I need to
- 25:22see what they do next. Then I'll come on here and I'll
- 25:24really go off and I hope and, and, and I'm going to say this
- 25:29too. I hope they go out and get a
- 25:30online coach, give me some fresh blood.
- 25:33I don't want to hear this. Davis is going to be the
- 25:35offensive line. People love him and he's so
- 25:38great. If you've been in the damn
- 25:40building and you ain't been able to fix it.
- 25:42Then you ain't the guy. You ain't.
- 25:44The guy. So you ain't the guy.
- 25:45Thank you Charlie, you can help. You can help, but you can't be
- 25:50the guy, so I'm done now. The only, the only internal hire
- 25:55that I'm good with is promoting Jarrett Ferguson, the strength
- 25:59and conditioning coach. And that's because Jarrett
- 26:02Ferguson had the same position under Gentry that he had under
- 26:08Gault. So to me, he has the the
- 26:15pedigree to take over this position and run it in a in a
- 26:19fashion that we know has been successful at Virginia Tech.
- 26:24And it's probably also the position that if, if from an
- 26:29assistant standpoint, if you're talking about promoting an
- 26:31assistant probably has the least to to least input on how the
- 26:38overall program is run relative to Co offensive line coach or
- 26:42whatever. But so he so to me, he is the
- 26:45best. If you're going to look at an
- 26:47internal hire, he's the only one that I'll be OK with.
- 26:50We if we go internal at any other position, I will be
- 26:54pissed. So I'm starting, I'm starting at
- 26:56the end and we're working backwards here.
- 26:58So that that that's what I don't want to see.
- 27:02I thought we got rid of the people we need to get rid of.
- 27:04We, you know, we, I think we had highlighted problems that this
- 27:08team had as, as things were, were, were coming down the
- 27:12stretch. We didn't block well,
- 27:14particularly in pass protection. We didn't close out games well.
- 27:17We had rough third quarters on defense.
- 27:19So basically the entire second-half was, was kind of a
- 27:24joke from a defensive standpoint.
- 27:25You know, looking big picture, obviously game by game things
- 27:28were different, but looking big picture, third, third quarters
- 27:31were awful. Ends of games, especially the
- 27:33last two minutes were awful from a defensive standpoint.
- 27:38So that that's kind of in Marv's corner and a combination of that
- 27:42with with Galt as well with the conditioning piece.
- 27:47And then you look at, you know, Crook, obviously I think
- 27:50performance wise, yeah, we, we talked about pass pro, but also
- 27:54if, if you're not able to get the guys in, you're not able to
- 27:58build a relationship that you need to, to put all the pieces
- 28:03together for an offensive line that is consistently competitive
- 28:06in the ACC. It it's, it's tough to make the
- 28:09case for that that person to stay on board.
- 28:12You know, we, we, we always identified pass pro as a big
- 28:15problem for this offensive line. But obviously if you're not
- 28:19bringing in guys that are raising that level, that are
- 28:21pushing those guys out of starting positions, that's a
- 28:25problem as well. So I, I, I'm with coach Prow on
- 28:29his ultimate reasoning for, for moving on from Crook and Marv
- 28:34and Gault here, because I think those are the three areas that
- 28:37will probably give us the best bang for our buck in terms of
- 28:41improvement if we're looking to to roll in some new coaches next
- 28:43year. Now what I think is interesting
- 28:46is what Tally said here of I think if the the DC you hire is
- 28:52probably at least going to want to bring in one guy with him.
- 28:56Yeah. So if if we're looking at one
- 29:00guy, maybe 2, and we're looking at the current construction of
- 29:06the defensive coaching staff, I think you can still identify two
- 29:10people potentially on that staff that would take lesser roles
- 29:18while still being a part of Virginia Tech's coaching staff.
- 29:21I think that's Pearson Prelo. I think that is Sean Quinn.
- 29:25So you know, you're looking at those two potential.
- 29:30What what I would see is, is basically if we're looking at
- 29:33ADC, we're looking at ADC that is coaching safeties and or
- 29:38linebackers. Yep, I agree with that.
- 29:45All right, I'm on real quick what Brian said.
- 29:48If there is an internal hire and chill, I'm going to pitch this
- 29:50to you in just a second. So hold pipe with internal hires
- 29:53because you're the only one that didn't kind of voice.
- 29:55Ferguson would be the only one I'd be OK with.
- 29:57If they hire Brett Davis, you will see a mad motherfucker in
- 30:00about 10 days on liquor because it's what me and Tally just
- 30:07said. He's been here already.
- 30:10To me, the only reason he's staying here is they had a fire
- 30:13crook. I think he's out the door
- 30:15because I don't think you do that.
- 30:17Because that juju, it kind of gives off like this motherfucker
- 30:20has been here for the last two years.
- 30:23He has been teaching. He has been doing the same stuff
- 30:25Ron's been doing. He didn't do a good enough job.
- 30:28Why you just going to give him the keys?
- 30:30Don't do that. But obviously, I think more So
- 30:34what Ron, where it probably made us a little more angry.
- 30:37Is it took and shown? You can probably give the exact
- 30:40data points. It felt like it took six games
- 30:44for some of the younger guys to start getting more snaps, more
- 30:47snaps. It seemed like he was afraid of
- 30:50change. Y'all know the one guy we know
- 30:54we felt like should have been benched the entire year, but
- 30:57it's like he was afraid of change.
- 30:59And in this situation, as we always talk about practice
- 31:04versus field, some guys are great in practice, some guys
- 31:09look like shit in practice, but you put them on the field, and
- 31:12this is regardless of type of sport, you put them on the
- 31:15field, everything turns to aces. It's like he always made that
- 31:22misstep in in practice. I wonder why because he's not a
- 31:25practice player. He needs to be in in live game
- 31:28action and I think that's what eventually did Ron Crooks in for
- 31:34Chris Marv Shelton. I know you probably dove even
- 31:38deeper into it, but I saw the Doug Bowman thing from 247 about
- 31:41the first half, second-half differences.
- 31:43To me, what it show with Chris Marv is Chris kid.
- 31:48We say what we want to say in most situations this year he
- 31:51could create a really good game plan to begin with, really good
- 31:55game plan to begin with his adjustments he could not adjust.
- 31:59He did not know how to do that on the fly.
- 32:01Unfortunately for him, he was a first time defensive
- 32:03coordinator. He did not have anyone really
- 32:06with a lot of seasoning note as a Co DC like like somebody like
- 32:11a Bob shoot to say, hey, what do we need to do here, coach?
- 32:13Talk me through it. And that's my big thing with
- 32:19Chris. It was the first second-half
- 32:21differences. They cannot do any sort of
- 32:25internal hiring for the DC. They cannot do an internal hire
- 32:29for the AOL. I mean, I don't even know who
- 32:31you would hire internally for. You couldn't, You couldn't.
- 32:33But you never know we've. Seen crazy issues if you let no
- 32:37if you let Twitter tell it process.
- 32:40Just do what the Vanderbilt coach does and he but he said
- 32:44that motherfucker is 6 and 6 too.
- 32:46He beat some teams, but still 6 won six games.
- 32:51Here's the piece. He already, he already ruled
- 32:52that out. He said that at the presser.
- 32:55And I want to say one other thing.
- 32:56If y'all want to talk about the news conference, we can.
- 32:58I'm going to put you to Sheldon in just a second.
- 33:01That might have been the nicest throwing people under the bus
- 33:04I've ever seen because he threw he she, he showed their flaws.
- 33:08He was very cordial about it, but he threw all of them under
- 33:11the bus basically saying we weren't good enough here, We
- 33:13weren't good enough here, we weren't good enough here.
- 33:15And you knew like, Yep, that was Chris Mall.
- 33:17Oh, that was wrong for Sheldon real quick.
- 33:22In house hires. Are you OK with any in house
- 33:25hires? Would you be pissed?
- 33:27Would you fly off like I would? I mean, I, I tend to be case by
- 33:32case basis. I guess the one the one
- 33:35potential would be Brent Davis, who knows very well respected.
- 33:40I don't know. I mean, I I definitely for
- 33:44strength and conditioning. I would definitely like to see
- 33:46them go go outside the house and get some a little bit more, you
- 33:48know, proven. I think, you know, over the last
- 33:53couple years, prize really stocked up his staff with lots
- 33:55of BT guys, you know, alums, Hokies, you know, guys he's
- 34:00friends with, you know, essentially people that he has
- 34:02connections with. And I'm not saying there's
- 34:04nothing inherently wrong with that, but I think there is a
- 34:06balance between like, you know, going to the field that you're
- 34:08comfortable with versus actually going out and expanding your,
- 34:11your horizon and kind of getting, you know, some, some
- 34:14big time higher. So I personally would probably
- 34:16learn more towards, you know, going, going outside the house
- 34:19and trying to get someone big time.
- 34:21I mean, cause they've got, they've got decent money.
- 34:23I mean, you know, Marva's making a top, you know, 3540 salary.
- 34:27So I mean, they, they've got some money to spend.
- 34:29And I, I, I just prefer to, you know, if, if you can't, if you
- 34:33can't have success with, you know, your, your current staff,
- 34:36the guys you're comfortable with.
- 34:37And why not, you know, get outside your comfort zone a
- 34:39little bit and kind of expand your boundaries, I guess.
- 34:43All right, so let's let's go with this next targets anywhere
- 34:48y'all read anyone y'all like I don't care the position.
- 34:52I'll flip it over to Brian. Is there anybody out there,
- 34:54Brian, that again, we're not there yet.
- 34:58A lot of people are pissed, by the way.
- 35:01A lot of people are pissed. We just done phone interviews.
- 35:04Isn't stupid. That means they're probably
- 35:07trying to hire from good teams, right?
- 35:10Teams that made bowls, maybe teams that made playoffs.
- 35:14People, get your head out of your asses, OK.
- 35:17And if you're actually falling for that, like how stupid, How
- 35:20far behind are we? Like no, if you're at this point
- 35:23and you're hiring, it's either teams that are playing playoffs
- 35:27or involved, which means they're decent fucking teams.
- 35:31Oh. You want me to talk now?
- 35:34Sorry, man, I told you that pissed me off because people
- 35:38don't know how anything works, people.
- 35:40People think it's a people think it's a video game and you can
- 35:43just click and hire the coach. That's how you do hey?
- 35:46I'm, I'm with you, man. All right, I'm, I'm gonna
- 35:49approach this from from 2 levels and I've said this privately.
- 35:54I'll said this publicly, I'll say it on here and it's probably
- 35:57going to ruffle some feathers and that's OK.
- 35:59Go. For.
- 36:01It two guys that I would like see to see attached to the
- 36:05offensive line coach hire would be Matt Moore and Marcus
- 36:09Johnson. One name I.
- 36:12We know you love Marcus. One name I do not want to see
- 36:15attached to it is Todd Washington.
- 36:20And I will elaborate by saying I've got nothing against Ty
- 36:23Washington as a coach, but give me somebody that's had to
- 36:27recruit in college football with his own unit in the last 15
- 36:30years. If if, if the relationship piece
- 36:34and the recruiting piece are what you've identified as Ron
- 36:37Crooks deficiencies outside of vibes.
- 36:42I don't know what Washington brings to the table that would
- 36:46improve that. Can you recruit?
- 36:50Can you recruit worse than than Ron Crook though?
- 36:54We don't know. That's the problem.
- 36:55I want a damn slam dunk tally. Give me a slam dunk take.
- 36:58Take the layup better. Than Ron Crook.
- 37:00Did take the layup though. Man, I don't, I don't.
- 37:02I don't want a what if or could could happen.
- 37:05Give me somebody that's done it. So you said Marcus what?
- 37:09Marcus Johnson, right? Yeah.
- 37:11Where is he at right now? Most recently at Purdue.
- 37:15OK, Purdue just got rid of the coach, right?
- 37:18Yes, he did. So that means he may be he
- 37:21should be looking for a job. So that's I mean, that's I've
- 37:23looked at him a little bit and not that makes sense.
- 37:26That's a that would be a good hire.
- 37:28I think he would be a a good. Hire a similar situation.
- 37:31Yeah, I have to do a little bit of, I have to do a little bit of
- 37:35research on him. I I haven't looked at him that
- 37:37much, but I did look up. I'm going.
- 37:38To say this real quick, Zach Frazier with the Steelers the
- 37:41highest taking center. He tooted him for three years.
- 37:45OK. That motherfucker that I, I
- 37:48wanted him on my team and we didn't draft him.
- 37:50Right. So I don't know, man.
- 37:54It's just, I don't, I don't, I don't.
- 37:56I mean, the only name that I really thought about is, is the
- 37:59name that that Brian kind of threw out for the old line was
- 38:03Marcus Johnson. I didn't know exactly what his
- 38:06situation was right now, but I would, I think that would be a
- 38:11good hire if we could pull that off.
- 38:13But man, I'm just, I don't have no confidence.
- 38:15I don't have no confidence that when you say can we go get a
- 38:19slam dunk, I mean, like Chris just said, and and our as Joe
- 38:26Rudolph was a slam dunk, right? So why didn't it work out?
- 38:30So if we got these guys that are high level that we should think
- 38:35as a slam dunk, are they not want to work under Pride because
- 38:38Pride's not being successful? Or do they not want to be in
- 38:42Blacksburg because it's not the place for the I don't know, man.
- 38:46I kind of feel like it's a specialized place to be and a
- 38:50specialized job. Yeah, it's probably can have a
- 38:52little bit of money there. It's going to be involved, of
- 38:54course, but I just I'm more concerned about what the head,
- 39:00what the top is doing more than like those pieces and things
- 39:04like that. Of course I'll be pissed if we
- 39:07do some internal stuff, but I need to see.
- 39:10I'm glad probably threw some people on the bus.
- 39:12I mean, I was hoping that he would do like they did on
- 39:16Jeepers Creepers and and keep on going backwards and coming and
- 39:21running over them again. If you ain't never seen Jeepers
- 39:22Creepers, go watch it when they ran his ass over.
- 39:25That's what I want him to do to coaches because if it's me or
- 39:28you on the line, it's going to be you.
- 39:31I'm going to throw you under the bus so I can save myself.
- 39:35And then I'm going to come back and I'm going to correct what
- 39:37I've done wrong so I can do better.
- 39:42Because at the end of the day, when we look at that record, the
- 39:44record is the head coaches record.
- 39:48When we talk about close games, they ain't going to say he is
- 39:52this in this in close games. When Kris Marv is his DC,
- 39:56they're going to say that is him.
- 39:59So he's he has to do some things different.
- 40:02When we talk about crook not playing people until certain
- 40:06games, I feel like we did that all over the defense and
- 40:08offense. So I don't know, man, I'm just
- 40:12not saying I'm disinterested. I just I really need to see what
- 40:16what they want to roll out next. I know it's not man, I'm just a
- 40:18fan, but I really want to see what they roll out next because.
- 40:24Yeah, I don't have no confidence in in what we're doing in
- 40:27Blacksburg right now. They've got to earn it back.
- 40:30All right. So can I address this a little
- 40:32bit real quick because Tally, you got to talk about it.
- 40:36Chris obviously put it in there and obviously Pete kind of
- 40:38followed up here. I'm not solely on the I think
- 40:42long term Joe Rudolph would have paid off situation, but what I
- 40:46do think is that Joe Rudolph prior to Virginia Tech was at
- 40:51places that historically offensive lineman want to play
- 40:55at before he got here where he is now.
- 40:59Offensive lineman want to play at Wisconsin, offensive lineman
- 41:02want to play at Notre Dame. It it it kind of recruits itself
- 41:07to a point he does a very good job of taking talented players
- 41:11and and making them into great players.
- 41:13I don't know how good he is at taking mid and turning it into
- 41:16good and I don't know if we would have seen a higher ceiling
- 41:20with that. But what I what I do think is
- 41:23that if you get good in the building, you don't have to be
- 41:26great developing. You just need to be pretty darn
- 41:28good. And what we've seen is that
- 41:31Marcus Johnson can recruit offensive lineman at a high
- 41:33level and doing it at schools that aren't necessarily
- 41:36historically juggernauts from an offensive line standpoint.
- 41:41You know, Missouri, Mississippi State, he was there at Duke for
- 41:46a bit. So I mean, there's there's a
- 41:49history here where he can recruit talented players
- 41:54regardless of the school's caliber and his history in a, in
- 41:58a from an offensive line play perspective.
- 42:01So that gives me a little bit of of hope that it will translate
- 42:05to a Virginia Tech. So that's my piece there.
- 42:09And so kind of, you know, refuting a little bit of the Joe
- 42:12Rudolph there, but not necessarily under playing that,
- 42:16you know, Rudolph wasn't a talented coach because he is.
- 42:19What about you, Shelton? Anything floating you heard?
- 42:23Or any coordinator? Yeah, I was.
- 42:26Got some here. I was going to say on the
- 42:28Rudolph thing again, I talked about this in Miracle this week,
- 42:31but you cannot question Rudolph's coaching ability, but
- 42:35I think it was a short sighted hire.
- 42:37I just I just don't think he was ever going to stay here for more
- 42:39than two years. And pride certainly had to know
- 42:41that with how much, you know, how much interest he would have
- 42:43gotten. He didn't he didn't fit the
- 42:46personnel we had at the time and he didn't cast a very wide net
- 42:50in the transfer portal. And then he leaves in March.
- 42:53You hire a crook, that doesn't work out.
- 42:55You can't get any good transfers.
- 42:56And it kind of just set us back, you know, a couple more years.
- 42:59So I think going back there's, there's lots of things that
- 43:01probably would have changed, but I just, I just don't think it
- 43:04was what BT needed at the time. I would have preferred someone
- 43:08of a little more kind of a lower level developmental program.
- 43:12You know, a guy like Adam Cushing and was that
- 43:13Northwestern Matt Gallico took him in, went to Duke and the
- 43:16Texas A&M, you know, guy like that, I think would have been a
- 43:19little bit more kind of, you know, the, the, you know, type
- 43:23of type of online coach we should go for.
- 43:24I just, I don't think it was the right the right move for what we
- 43:27needed at the time. I got.
- 43:30You I'll ask this question right quick.
- 43:32I'll ask this question. I know, I know Brian put a name
- 43:35out there, but so mainly to Curtis and Shelton because
- 43:38Shelton kind of hinted around and I like what you said.
- 43:41What kind of guy does in the position we're in right now?
- 43:46What kind of coach? I ain't saying a name.
- 43:49What kind of old line coach do you y'all think we need right
- 43:53now? Like do y'all think we need a
- 43:54very experienced coach? You think we need a young,
- 43:57young, energetic coach? Like what kind of mold do you
- 44:00think we need for this next step that we have to take?
- 44:06I think we need a personality guy.
- 44:09I, I think we need a guy that can relate well with a broad
- 44:14range of kids that reside within the footprint that we recruit.
- 44:22I don't think we necessarily I, I think Crook may have been
- 44:27Crook and Rudolph to a point may have been a little bit more
- 44:30traditional than the type of coach.
- 44:34I think that we need this go around.
- 44:37I'm I'm with Ron on that. Just just someone who's a
- 44:40willing recruiter. I mean, again, offensive line is
- 44:43a position where you have to stack bodies.
- 44:44And I'm just, I'm just, you know, we, I, I don't think the
- 44:48recruiting gave them a chance. Honestly, like with how, with
- 44:51how bad it was the, the lack of, you know, commitments these last
- 44:55two years in, in that room, I just, I, I, I think I, I don't
- 44:59think they had a chance. So just just get someone who's a
- 45:01recruiter and bring guys in, really.
- 45:04Yeah, give me an energy, give me a younger guy because you have
- 45:08to stack bodies like like y'all are both saying like we're all
- 45:11saying you've got to stack bodies in that room and with a
- 45:17younger guy. Is it is it a choice of Levar
- 45:22didn't put a name in here, so I'm going to have to look it up.
- 45:24But to me, you've got to go younger, like, and it's not
- 45:28necessarily that those young guys can't coach.
- 45:33A lot of them can coach, but you need energy like you need to
- 45:37make that room believe again. You need to make them mean you
- 45:42know. Mark responsive.
- 45:47You're on mute, Curtis. If I Curtis.
- 45:49Lost my mic. Give me a second here.
- 45:52You're good, but, well, that's because the computer might go,
- 45:58but I think it's a younger guy in some way, shape or form.
- 46:01Now, do I want a guy like nobody's ever heard of?
- 46:08No. I've at least got to know a
- 46:10little bit about them. They got at least put a guy in
- 46:13the league. So that's where I feel on that.
- 46:18I won't talk to the defense about it all though, because to
- 46:20me. If our.
- 46:23Defense, our offense scored 29.8 points a game.
- 46:27Y'all, if I told y'all we were going to score 30 points a game,
- 46:29we tally would have sat here and said we're going to win nine
- 46:32games, then we will win one extra game over my eight.
- 46:35I think the defensive higher is more important because I think
- 46:39the way Tyler Bone has proved, even with a below average
- 46:42offensive line in the last few years, we can put up points at
- 46:47times. So when I think that what do I
- 46:49want, you know, I'm going to throw a name out.
- 46:53Here throw a name. Lyle Hemphill, look up the name.
- 46:59Get to your phone, look up the name.
- 47:02Lyle Hemphill. He is currently the defensive
- 47:05coordinator at JMU. Guess where he was in 23?
- 47:10And y'all going to love this. He was Michael huh?
- 47:14No, he was Mike Elko's DC and Duke.
- 47:18Yeah. He was Mike Elko's DC Duke.
- 47:22And if you. He was Co DC, either way, Co DC.
- 47:27Before that, he coached the safeties of Duke with Mike Elko.
- 47:31Before that, he was defensive coordinator 19 to 21.
- 47:34For Clawson, 19 was a very good year, was in 19 to 21.
- 47:40One of those was a very good season for Wake Forest.
- 47:43He's 44 years old. He is from the Mid-Atlantic
- 47:47area. If you take a look at him he he
- 47:51played at Delaware so probably knows the footprint decent.
- 47:56That's so that's that's that's a sneaky good name.
- 47:59This is a. Fucking sneaky good name because
- 48:01he's been ADC he's coached in. The I had never heard of that
- 48:04name, but I'm looking it up now and then.
- 48:06That's pretty good. That.
- 48:07That's a sneaky good name. You go look at his picture on
- 48:11like Wikipedia. He kind of looks crazy, a little
- 48:13bit like standing. So, you know, I need him to be,
- 48:18you know, a little crazy like that.
- 48:20I'm all right with that. All right, so I will throw a
- 48:22name. I will throw a name to
- 48:24somewhere, probably on everybody's mind.
- 48:27Everybody's probably at least thought of it.
- 48:29Hey. That's loud right there.
- 48:32That's loud, loud. I'm going to throw a name that
- 48:36everybody's probably thought of at this point, and you probably
- 48:39have strong feelings one way or another on it.
- 48:41Anthony Poindexter. I'm not saying that's my pick,
- 48:49but I'm saying I could be talked into that pic and I'll tell you
- 48:52why. The reason I could be talked
- 48:54into that pic is that if we're talking about bringing some
- 48:57juice on the trail, Anthony Poindexter will bring some
- 49:01fucking juice on the trail. Yeah, for real.
- 49:05You're right by that. Yeah, I got.
- 49:10The other piece and I didn't know that Sheldon, you probably
- 49:12did, probably should have asked you and didn't realize
- 49:15Poindexter had been a play called in DC at UConn back few
- 49:19years ago. He's been strictly Co DC.
- 49:22Yeah, he yeah, he did somebody, I can't remember who it was, if
- 49:25I could. If you're out there listening
- 49:27and I talk to you in one of the chats.
- 49:34Great. Like he called play.
- 49:36So he's been in that seat before.
- 49:38He obviously hasn't been up since he's been back yet since
- 49:42he's been back at Penn State, but I like that name personally.
- 49:49You know, I, I think, I think the thing.
- 49:51That would also. It would be going, it would it
- 49:54would be 1/2 step back into the well from an experience
- 49:57standpoint. But you cannot argue with the
- 50:01recruiting side of things and being able to absolutely crush
- 50:06the footprint. And I think, I think to me it's
- 50:11a calculated risk that I'd be willing to take from an overall
- 50:15experience standpoint relative to what we had with Chris Marv.
- 50:21But it does not give you quite as much in game P5 experience as
- 50:27Lyle Hemphill. So there we go.
- 50:33Who's that? Who's next?
- 50:35What's next? Well, I'm going to just say real
- 50:38quick to Mr. Graham out here, Robert Salas getting a defensive
- 50:42coordinator job in the NFL. It's not even a question.
- 50:45He might actually, he might actually be back in San
- 50:48Francisco by the end of the year.
- 50:50And our the alumnus, Nick Sorenson, the former Hokie might
- 50:54be getting fired too. So yeah, let's actually go down
- 50:58and let's now y'all have anything else y'all want to talk
- 51:01about coaching wise? I think we all agree if a few
- 51:04coaches had to get fired, he fired the right bridge and, and
- 51:09I will. And I said this to Dwight.
- 51:10I was texting with Dwight the other night and I texted y'all
- 51:13too. I think it proved a little bit
- 51:16as as much as he's an inexperienced head coach tally
- 51:20Brian Shelton, I think y'all can agree with this.
- 51:24He did his first big boy move as a head coach.
- 51:27He he fired his damn protege. You know how tough that is?
- 51:32Yeah, yeah. He knows.
- 51:33He known Chris Moore probably since he was like 19 and he
- 51:37fired his ass. Now, what was Chris Marv?
- 51:40He's got 2.5 million coming his way.
- 51:42But you know. But what did you like?
- 51:46What? Yeah.
- 51:47Then only ask next two years. But anything else from the
- 51:50staff? Do y'all do y'all think I know
- 51:53Robbie put it in here. He thinks that he could see more
- 51:56changes happening. Do y'all think we see more
- 51:58changes happening? I I think there's still some
- 52:01shuffling left to be done, whether that's PP taking a step
- 52:06back because of who we bring in a coordinator, whether that's a
- 52:09little bit of a shuffling on the offensive side, if there is
- 52:14someone brought in to potentially coach quarterbacks
- 52:17full time and be a COC or something of that effect.
- 52:21I'm interested to see what's going to happen on that side of
- 52:23the ball. I think I feel OK about
- 52:26defensive side of the ball because I think the the steps
- 52:30that can be taken there are pretty pretty straightforward
- 52:33without really rocking the boat too much.
- 52:37So I'm interested to see how that side of the ball shakes
- 52:39out. But I definitely see at least
- 52:40one or two of our current position coaches having some
- 52:44other title at the start of spring ball.
- 52:51All righty, since we don't let let's close the book on that.
- 52:54Hopefully the next time we talk, which should be about 10 days
- 52:58from now, we're talking about new coordinators.
- 53:01We can complain about them then, but let's now let's flip over to
- 53:03the portal. I'm going to go with the good
- 53:06news before we get into all the departures and that was at the
- 53:10press conference. Effectively both Pop Watson and
- 53:13Kyron Jones are returning. So that tells me we do not need
- 53:19to go get a quarterback. I think with what we saw, we
- 53:22know Kyron, what he can be. If y'all didn't hear today, we
- 53:27we've known for a little while now about these injuries.
- 53:31Power was basically a damn mass unit all season, but we saw the
- 53:36glimpses of pop. We're not going to quarterback
- 53:40shopping this year in the portal.
- 53:41And as much as somebody might want to see it, yeah.
- 53:46Yeah, Well, y'all. Coward was in was pretty much
- 53:49injured in a fairly significant way from Rutgers on SO.
- 53:55Vanderbilt on. Really.
- 53:56Vanderbilt on. But yeah, remember.
- 53:57Remember, he got sacked and he got stepped on.
- 54:00Yeah, but from AI, I'm thinking from a impacting his play
- 54:05standpoint, absolutely looking at Rutgers on and you know
- 54:10getting him back is big. Getting pop to stay in the fold
- 54:14is big. It definitely gives you a solid
- 54:16quarterback room heading into next season.
- 54:20A a quarterback room I think you feel comfortable with even if
- 54:23maybe Yep, still some question marks, right, Because Pop is
- 54:29still young, hasn't played a ton of snaps.
- 54:32Kyron's got some injuries to come back from may not get as
- 54:35much run in spring as you would like, right.
- 54:39So they're they're still going to be some question marks there.
- 54:41But I think we're still talking about a quarterback situation
- 54:45that is better heading into 2025 then I think we expected without
- 54:49having to hit the transfer portal.
- 54:52Tally. No, I agree.
- 54:57We touched on it. Like I said, man, I mean, we
- 55:01knew for a while, but Calm was hurt.
- 55:04You know, there's no excuses in football, but Calm was hurt a
- 55:07lot. He got a lot of the blame of
- 55:09what happened to Virginia Tech this year.
- 55:11And I mean, you could put some of the blame on the quarterback,
- 55:14but Kia was hurt, man. He tried to give what he could
- 55:19give when he was on the field. In my opinion, sometimes I feel
- 55:23like he shouldn't have been on the field.
- 55:24Like if I was the coach, he wouldn't have been on the field,
- 55:27somebody else would have been. But I was glad to see him come
- 55:31back, you know what I'm saying? I was glad to see him come back
- 55:34and I hope he comes back and proves a lot of people wrong in
- 55:36some of his play because I think we've seen what he could be.
- 55:42And even if he is, you know, goes back to what he was last
- 55:46year, that still would have gave us probably two more games, you
- 55:52know, this year. So you just want to see the kids
- 55:56healthy, man, see them compete. And it gives you competition
- 55:58going into the spring, gives you a little bit of stability.
- 56:03So you can go into the portal and say, hey, we do have this
- 56:06because for a while it was looking like, what do we have?
- 56:09You know what I'm saying? And that's a big, that's a big
- 56:13thing to be able to go into the Porter and say, hey, we do have
- 56:16two guys that we know are playmakers at the quarterback
- 56:19position. We just need to put some people
- 56:21around them so we can get to the next level.
- 56:24And we know we got some young talent that that's stepping in
- 56:27that I'm interested to see. That's why this bowl game, I
- 56:30know we'll talk about it a little bit.
- 56:31It'll be interesting to me. I still think we're going to get
- 56:34our breaks beat off of us, but I'd like to see, you know, where
- 56:38we're going. And and that's because of the
- 56:40offensive line. But whatever the case is, I'm
- 56:43glad to see both quarterbacks come back.
- 56:45But again, mainly for me, man. And this ain't on the fan shit.
- 56:48This ain't like me liking Karen as a person.
- 56:52This is just me looking at it as a fan looking at football.
- 56:56You got your starting quarterback coming back and then
- 56:59you got the backup that came in and show some promise coming
- 57:03back. Looks like he's put it together
- 57:05and he's coming back. They both decided.
- 57:07You don't see that in this transfer portal market that
- 57:10often and you definitely have. We haven't seen it in Virginia
- 57:13Tech. Like we didn't have a returning
- 57:17quarterback for how many years? Like we kept changing and
- 57:20changing and changing like no stability.
- 57:22So, you know, I'm interested to see, see what we can, what we
- 57:26put together. About you, Shelton.
- 57:28Were you shot? Surprised, Happy.
- 57:31Unhappy. A little surprised.
- 57:34I mean, you know, I I didn't think they'd keep both of them,
- 57:37especially, you know, they're due to get paid.
- 57:39And I guess it was nice to see that, you know, pop wasn't the
- 57:42type of player that's going to, you know, ask for some giant bag
- 57:45and then dip like, you know, Moe's did.
- 57:48I just you know, it's it's you're good to see, you know, it
- 57:51seems like he's a he's a team. Maybe I shouldn't have said that
- 57:53out loud. I don't know whatever I mean, I
- 57:57think, I think. I think we, I think most people
- 57:59knew that. People go now, you know they.
- 58:00Don't know the number, but they knew the circumstance.
- 58:02They knew circumstance, yeah. Yeah, well, he's gone anyways.
- 58:05I don't care, but it does seem like they're both Kyron and Pop
- 58:10are both very much, you know, team first players.
- 58:13You know, they're not going to, you know, cry about it.
- 58:15They're not going to quit. They're just going to keep, you
- 58:17know, grinding. So it's good that both of them
- 58:18back. And, you know, competition
- 58:20brings out the best in people. So, you know, I think I, I've
- 58:22heard some people say like, you know, if you have two
- 58:24quarterbacks enough one like, well, we don't even know if we
- 58:25have 1. So I think, you know, just
- 58:28compete and and that'll make you better and hold, hold, hold
- 58:30yourself accountable. And you know, Pop is a pretty
- 58:32good insurance policy as well. 100% All right.
- 58:35I don't know where Charlie went. Charlie, you still there?
- 58:38Where the hell did you go? He ran away.
- 58:41He ran away. It's all right.
- 58:43We'll we'll bring it all back together.
- 58:45Obviously, if y'all haven't, check out Colby Crawford 247
- 58:48keeping up with the list. This is so much the list is so
- 58:53much bigger than last year. The FCS guys, G5 guys we're
- 58:59starting to see now more P5 got P4 guys.
- 59:03Is it ever going to not be the P4?
- 59:06But as much as we know guys are out there, obviously Koval
- 59:10coming in, obviously a lot of visits and stuff, we got to talk
- 59:12about who left. So I want to start with whoever
- 59:16wants to start. What's the one hurt you the
- 59:20most? When Chaplin ain't not fucking,
- 59:23it's not even fucking close. Chaplin.
- 59:26OK. Just main sharing by us and have
- 59:29anything now that I say that We know Chaplin has committed to
- 59:34Auburn and I know Shelton and Tally were talking about how
- 59:38unlucky Auburn was this year. Correct.
- 59:41Were you? Shocked that he went there
- 59:44first. I was over Ole Miss, South
- 59:48Carolina. Who were the two projected front
- 59:51runners? Who were teams that close to the
- 59:53playoffs? Tally says he was.
- 59:56Yeah, I definitely was. I was.
- 59:58I was, I mean. Being here and, and seeing kind
- 1:00:02of, you know, what Auburn is, I mean, I've always kind of kept
- 1:00:06up with Auburn from being from here, you know, usually like
- 1:00:10more Auburn players so and their traditions and things like that.
- 1:00:14But I just didn't, I never seen him like being a Auburn guy.
- 1:00:18That just kind of threw me for a loop.
- 1:00:20I didn't hear the name, his name associated with them, you know,
- 1:00:25talking to some of the, the Auburn fans and, and you know,
- 1:00:28like you said, I was looking at some of the teams that I thought
- 1:00:31like he, what we had heard he had offers from and things like
- 1:00:34that. So Auburn never like was on the
- 1:00:37radar at all to me. But when they're like, hey, he
- 1:00:41committed to Auburn, I was like, why #1 like that was the first
- 1:00:45thing. But then when I look at it, I'm
- 1:00:47like, it's kind of what Robbie said, like Freeze was at
- 1:00:50Liberty. Freeze knows how to, he knows
- 1:00:52how to recruit, he knows how to get what he wants.
- 1:00:55So, and it's probably a good situation with Chaplain
- 1:00:58monetarily, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:00Like he's getting what he wants. So I wish him the best.
- 1:01:03But it was definitely a hard pill to swallow that he left and
- 1:01:06then for him to go to Armand, 'cause I'm like, they're not
- 1:01:08even going to a bowl game and you went there.
- 1:01:10So sometimes it's about money, man, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:14Sometimes it's about money. Sheldon.
- 1:01:18Yeah, Chaplin was the one guy, you know, maybe would sit and
- 1:01:23and think throw him in there as well that I really, really do
- 1:01:26not want to lose. Like I was on defcon one if we
- 1:01:27lost him and we did and you know, maybe it's not the end of
- 1:01:30the world, but it's just hard to constantly replace, you know,
- 1:01:33quality starting O lineman. And again, like you talked about
- 1:01:37tonight, like the staff just hasn't done a good enough job
- 1:01:39recruiting in that room and I think it's going to really hurt
- 1:01:42them next year. So can't really spend that one
- 1:01:45man stuff. Yeah, when, when you've
- 1:01:49identified your offensive line coach and your offensive line as
- 1:01:53a as a unit, as an area, you said you need to upgrade and you
- 1:01:58lose probably the best 2 pieces that are returning on that unit.
- 1:02:03And we'll talk about the other one here shortly.
- 1:02:08That stings, right? And I'm not saying there's not a
- 1:02:13price that I wouldn't be willing to to throw out there, but it
- 1:02:18would it would have probably been at least a little closer to
- 1:02:22what the whispers were. And I'm thankfully, you know,
- 1:02:25after June there won't be question.
- 1:02:27Marks of what's not thrown. Anymore, there will be, there
- 1:02:31will be certitude of what what's being thrown, not just these
- 1:02:34whispers and rumors and hearsays and second hands and all that
- 1:02:39bullshit. But I would have personally been
- 1:02:43OK with with matching what I have heard was the official
- 1:02:47offer, not the shit that got peddled on the board's offer.
- 1:02:51So that's where I am. I'll say with this, with Xavier,
- 1:02:58I think, you know, because there were things flying about the
- 1:03:03coaches and wanted to step up and OK all that, whatever.
- 1:03:09What I always get more pissed off.
- 1:03:11Maybe shouldn't because it's these guys with their
- 1:03:14livelihoods. If something, if something
- 1:03:16happens weird in spring and he shatters his leg into a billion
- 1:03:20pieces, Xavier Chaplin for the rest of his life is probably
- 1:03:24set. With what happened going to
- 1:03:26Auburn, he's probably set. But it always kind of hurts to
- 1:03:31say. Like if he went to South
- 1:03:33Carolina, a lot of people would have been pissed off.
- 1:03:34Shane stole him from us. It's like, no, so Nora Sellers
- 1:03:37is a good fucking quarterback. They got a good team returning
- 1:03:40next year and now they're getting this left tackle piece
- 1:03:44who's really good or Ole Miss, even though Jackson darts not
- 1:03:48returning. We know Lane Kiffin can coach
- 1:03:49offense. He's going to put that together
- 1:03:52and it's like the missing piece with those who would have been
- 1:03:54like, OK, he's going to be the guy that puts them over and
- 1:03:56that's why they paid so much for him.
- 1:03:59It's going to Auburn and you just know it's literally it was
- 1:04:03the highest price. He probably walked in.
- 1:04:06This is what they want to give me.
- 1:04:08If you give me X amount of dollars more, I'll commit here
- 1:04:10today. But again, it's his livelihood.
- 1:04:14We we talked about Mansoor, we all felt could have went last
- 1:04:18year shocking to go to LSU versus going pro.
- 1:04:22I am in the opinion my opinion, if Mansoor has a slightly bad
- 1:04:27seasons, he's not getting drafted.
- 1:04:28Where right now, if he committed to go to the draft somewhere
- 1:04:31between 3:00 and 6:00, he goes down there and screws up, he
- 1:04:35ain't getting drafted. He's betting on himself, which
- 1:04:40I'm fine with. Yeah, I'm this one hurt a little
- 1:04:45less. And the main thing is because I
- 1:04:48expected him to be gone in some way, shape or form at the end of
- 1:04:51the season anyway, so the end result didn't change.
- 1:04:59I'm a little surprised and maybe a little frustrated by how we,
- 1:05:04how the in in game got there. But you know, I, I, I expected
- 1:05:08him to probably be gone at the end of this season anyway, So
- 1:05:12that one stings a little bit less from my perspective.
- 1:05:17I know we had, you know, we had kind of talked about probably
- 1:05:19the this year we're going to need to replace 2 cornerbacks.
- 1:05:22Like we, we were talking about that before the season started.
- 1:05:24We. Were.
- 1:05:25Right. So and that's why something like
- 1:05:28getting drones and pop back is big because we kind of thought
- 1:05:33whether drones goes, you know, makes makes a bigger jump or
- 1:05:36whether he returns to Virginia Tech, We thought we were going
- 1:05:40to either lose him and Pop was going to be the guy or pop was
- 1:05:44going to go because drones is back for not for for another
- 1:05:47year. So in that in that room, it
- 1:05:48feels like a bonus in this room, it just kind of feels like this
- 1:05:52was expected anyway. So it is what it is.
- 1:05:57Yeah, Also, Monsoor is going to make way more money at LSU than
- 1:06:02you would in the NFL with that rookie contract system.
- 1:06:05So we're all so we can all remind ourselves of where
- 1:06:08college athletics is currently. Yes, but also what Brian said
- 1:06:12too. And this is when it when that
- 1:06:15shit hits the fan. Tally me.
- 1:06:17I've been talking to you about it a little bit and all y'all,
- 1:06:20when that hits the fan in June, and I'll start with the guy at
- 1:06:23work and you start knowing how much these kids are getting
- 1:06:26paid. Some of these kids aren't going
- 1:06:29to be able to leave. They aren't going to go to
- 1:06:30class, They're not going to be able to leave their dorm just so
- 1:06:33they're going to go to practice. They'll go to the game and
- 1:06:34they're going to go back home. Because if they stink and you
- 1:06:38got a $2,000,000 tag next to your name, people are now going
- 1:06:42to know. People are going to know.
- 1:06:46We paid this bump $2,000,000 and he's a piece of trash.
- 1:06:50They was talking. They was talking about him
- 1:06:51before they know how much money though.
- 1:06:53Oh, it's. Going to be worse now though.
- 1:06:54Talent, it's going to be the same.
- 1:06:56They're going, oh, they're. Going to be worse.
- 1:06:57Well, they'll they'll know what percentage of the NIL has gone
- 1:07:01towards this player instead of just having whispers and
- 1:07:04hearsays and second hands. Yeah, I got to remember though,
- 1:07:09people get a lot more brave when they get behind them computers,
- 1:07:11when you say they won't be able to go nowhere.
- 1:07:13You talk about a football player going to get something to eat.
- 1:07:16You don't understand in the way of a big man going to eat.
- 1:07:18They probably they probably will leave them alone because I kept
- 1:07:22telling people like again, like love it, hate it, I don't care.
- 1:07:29People used to give Billy Ray all kind of shit and I was like,
- 1:07:32y'all do know that's a big motherfucker, right?
- 1:07:36I mean, what y'all do all that typing and talking and stuff
- 1:07:40saying you saying to their face, it's a little bit different.
- 1:07:42Not saying nobody will, but I'm just saying I don't think that
- 1:07:45that is going to be. So there's a lot of people that
- 1:07:48talk shit behind their keyboard. It wouldn't say not.
- 1:07:50A damn right, not a damn right real quick.
- 1:07:53All I mean, Mansour gone to LSU, Xavier Allen, Gunner Gibbons
- 1:07:58committed to Vanderbilt today. Of all the other guys, I know
- 1:08:02Brian mentioned Braylon Moore. So a little bit of all the other
- 1:08:05guys, who's your one that you were kind of shocked to see
- 1:08:08going into the portal? Now with Braylon Moore, besides
- 1:08:13like besides chaplain, I was like he leaving, you know, I
- 1:08:18just not that I didn't think he could.
- 1:08:20I was just like I, I just, I didn't think that was happening.
- 1:08:25Then when I seen predictions to LSU, I'm like, is he going to go
- 1:08:29to LSU and start? That's what I want to know.
- 1:08:33He is not committed. Yet, right.
- 1:08:35But I just said, like I said, prediction.
- 1:08:36So I don't know, man. I don't know.
- 1:08:39It's not that nothing really surprises me anymore.
- 1:08:42It just kind of sometimes you got some head scratches.
- 1:08:44But in this climate that we're in in college football, like,
- 1:08:48nothing surprises me with the transport portal.
- 1:08:52Yeah. I mean, it's frustrating
- 1:08:53thinking that, all right, So our offensive line isn't great, but
- 1:08:58the two most important positions on it we feel pretty solid
- 1:09:01about, right? And then both of those guys are
- 1:09:03in the portal ones already committed somewhere else.
- 1:09:05Yeah, I was actually looking up to next year, like, man, I think
- 1:09:08we're going to be, you know, in a little bit better position
- 1:09:11next year with some of the pieces that we got.
- 1:09:15You know, because I feel like once we move this person and
- 1:09:17this person and you give this person more time, the offensive
- 1:09:20line has more time to be cohesive and we get this piece
- 1:09:25back. And you know, I think that this
- 1:09:27receiver and this receiver was going to be a little bit more
- 1:09:29dynamic because this guy was hurt.
- 1:09:31And then boom, first day you get hit with the two pieces that you
- 1:09:35don't need to leave the offensive line are freaking
- 1:09:38gone. And then in our mind, I'm
- 1:09:41already, I already got the mentality of Ron Crook taking 7
- 1:09:45lineman in two cycles or whatever the case may be.
- 1:09:48It's like we ain't going to get nobody else.
- 1:09:50Like what are we going to do? So I have been disengaged with.
- 1:09:55It's it's it's frustrating because like you said, Tally,
- 1:09:59like you look at, you know, Chaplin locked in more locked
- 1:10:02in. You know, you feel like Garrett
- 1:10:05with another year of season could be an up an upgrade from
- 1:10:08Parker, right? At least we thought we talked
- 1:10:10about he might even be an upgrade this year from Parker.
- 1:10:13You get, you know, Meadows, you get Cunningham, you get Ganem,
- 1:10:18another year of seasoning for that interior.
- 1:10:21You're like, maybe we start making a little bit of, of
- 1:10:26movement here and then you lose your, your top 2 on the line and
- 1:10:29now you're like, we got to scramble a little bit.
- 1:10:32And you still, I think you still feel OK about those other guys.
- 1:10:36And then you still got how, how Schick still has another year of
- 1:10:39eligibility. I don't fucking know, but he
- 1:10:41does. You got those?
- 1:10:43Guys, I think Schick is my age. He's got to be my age.
- 1:10:46He's he's approaching it. So you got those guys coming
- 1:10:48back you so you still feel about as good as you did about those
- 1:10:52other spots. But now your two most important
- 1:10:53spots, you got a backfill some ways.
- 1:10:56So there's a, there's a trickle down of now you, you went from
- 1:10:59having six baby, seven guys you feel pretty good about to now
- 1:11:03having maybe five guys. And they don't, they don't fit
- 1:11:07into the two positions that are the most important.
- 1:11:10Sheldon, anybody else on here it shocked you and.
- 1:11:16I. Don't know about shocked.
- 1:11:17I mean, I was surprised Moses left just especially because
- 1:11:20it's kind of for dumb reasons as we've discussed.
- 1:11:22But I don't know, I mean, seems like they've kind of kind of
- 1:11:25backfield that spot. So I don't know.
- 1:11:28I mean, you get rid of a few walk ONS, you know, there's
- 1:11:30probably some scholarship guys you'd like to, you know, keep
- 1:11:32around. But for the most part, I think
- 1:11:33it's kind of just a standard, you know, roster shuffle, you
- 1:11:36know, getting outside the two, the two lineman.
- 1:11:38So, you know, not not too worried about it.
- 1:11:41I think it's more so the concern is like, you know, just bringing
- 1:11:44more guys in and, and you reckon do it until you, you know, start
- 1:11:47filling out the staff again. So kind of a kind of a wait and
- 1:11:49see to everything. You got a, you got a backfield,
- 1:11:52there's a lot of moving parts and you know, even once those
- 1:11:54coaches come on, there's probably still going to be some
- 1:11:56more, you know, slight shuffles there.
- 1:11:58So it's going to be interesting to see what we do here.
- 1:12:01And I, I think that's why sometimes I, I hate having
- 1:12:04these, these portal discussions because it's, it's such an
- 1:12:09incomplete piece until everything kind of wraps up.
- 1:12:14It's also they need to change the frame of when it's done.
- 1:12:18This is the worst, yeah. And, and I, I get, I get why
- 1:12:22they do it because of the start of the spring semester.
- 1:12:25So there's like there's a tighter window.
- 1:12:29Yeah, in a perfect world, we back the season up a little bit.
- 1:12:32We'd finish everything by the 1st of January, and then we can
- 1:12:37actually have some, some fucking time to, yeah, everyone can
- 1:12:41explore their options before the start of spring semester.
- 1:12:44But that's not happening I think.
- 1:12:46At least on the short term. I think well the, the season's
- 1:12:49going January 20th this year. I couldn't tell you.
- 1:12:52All schools are different with their time frames.
- 1:12:54I think it starts January 2nd next year.
- 1:12:57I think there's an 18 day portal window from the end or the the
- 1:13:02the four games on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and then to
- 1:13:05like the Sunday of the national championship.
- 1:13:08I don't think they're going, I don't think they're going to
- 1:13:10change until they back the season up at least a week.
- 1:13:12Dang they're the back season up a week though.
- 1:13:14That's the issue. They're not going to be the
- 1:13:16back. You're already playing games on
- 1:13:17week zero. Everybody just fucking start on
- 1:13:19week zero. What?
- 1:13:21Happened. It ain't gonna happen.
- 1:13:23I'm just saying you're already playing.
- 1:13:25You're already playing a prime time game on week zero.
- 1:13:27Just back the bitch up a week. It ain't gonna happen.
- 1:13:30It just ain't gonna happen because ESPN controls it all and
- 1:13:33they stupid. Let's roll on.
- 1:13:37I wanted to just hit the WID interview real quick.
- 1:13:40I know for me, I wasn't shocked but pleasantly surprised at the
- 1:13:45number. That will roughly be what, 17
- 1:13:48and a half million with the revenue sharing for football,
- 1:13:53for football next year, 20 1/2 total.
- 1:13:57Anything else from that interview that stood out for
- 1:13:59y'all? Just that number, because it's
- 1:14:01like, wow, it's a ton of revenue sharing numbers that obviously
- 1:14:05with the way State of Virginia set up, you can pay the players
- 1:14:09right there without any blinking, nothing else.
- 1:14:17You know, I think, I think the the interview was interesting.
- 1:14:21I think it covered a topic that I think not a lot of people had
- 1:14:25really dove into about how it specifically was going to impact
- 1:14:31Virginia Tech. So I think it was something that
- 1:14:33was really important to discuss about not only here's what's
- 1:14:38happening, but here's our at least short term strategy to
- 1:14:43meet that ask, meet that challenge.
- 1:14:49At the same time, I think there's still some things that
- 1:14:53we we're going to need to to adapt to and do better
- 1:14:58throughout this process. I know there's going to need to
- 1:15:00be reallocation of probably some priorities, both with long term
- 1:15:11financial compensation for coaches probably across the
- 1:15:15board as well as you know, capital investments in athletic
- 1:15:19facilities are going to need to be on a as needed basis instead
- 1:15:25of a as requested and, and, and, and desired basis.
- 1:15:32Unfortunately, I think that you're probably some of this is
- 1:15:36going to affect the basketball team even more as it has in the
- 1:15:41short term. I think it's going to be a long
- 1:15:42term impact on the basketball team as well, unfortunately.
- 1:15:45So we'll see how that shakes out.
- 1:15:48Anybody else on which Cal City had none shelved in anything?
- 1:15:54Good chance to kind of get wit out there in public and you
- 1:15:57know, speak to the fan base a little bit, kind of, you know,
- 1:15:59calms and tempers. I mean, he's not the, you know,
- 1:16:02not the best public speaker. So having him kind of a
- 1:16:04controlled environment where he can kind of lay out the
- 1:16:06groundwork for what Vt is doing to be proactive and and IELTS
- 1:16:08basis. I think it's pretty good.
- 1:16:09So and it sounds like the universe has kind of been very
- 1:16:12forward thinking. So I think there's some some
- 1:16:15things to be positive about. You know, as always, there's
- 1:16:17going to be, you know what, an arms race.
- 1:16:20And you know, tech doesn't have the biggest coffers, but they,
- 1:16:23you know, they're certainly trying.
- 1:16:24So gotta be excited about that at least. 100% on that all right
- 1:16:29let's flip it as y'all know we are brought to you by accounts
- 1:16:33family pharmacy your friendly neighborhood pharmacy three O 1
- 1:16:36S Main St. Let's talk about the class 2025.
- 1:16:39We're not going to get too in depth and talk about all the
- 1:16:41players and everything. First of all, 11 of the 19 will
- 1:16:46be on campus for spring, which is really freaking good.
- 1:16:52Big story of that day was the Jamari Deloach flip.
- 1:16:58Flip at 7:00 AM on signing day becomes the second highest guy
- 1:17:04in the class, a top ten player in the state.
- 1:17:09Did it make you feel good at least?
- 1:17:11Like you sitting here and it's like you think the class is all
- 1:17:13made out and then all of a sudden, oh, we got to flip.
- 1:17:16My first thought was it's probably like the 26th ranked
- 1:17:19player that going to JMU and then no it's not.
- 1:17:23It's actually someone pretty elite.
- 1:17:26Right, and in a position that we need players.
- 1:17:30So definitely was a a pleasant surprise because I didn't see
- 1:17:35that coming and I was I was happy about that.
- 1:17:37So loved it, loved one. I mean, I guess even through the
- 1:17:43Fuente era, it was just like, I love what they do for signing
- 1:17:47day now prior and company. Like that's just fun to watch.
- 1:17:51The whole production is good. I know people bitch about it.
- 1:17:54That's just because that's what they want to do.
- 1:17:55But the production is good. You know, the the interviews
- 1:17:59with the families and stuff like that, That's just entertainment.
- 1:18:02Besides how you feel about where football's at, like that's
- 1:18:05entertainment. So just watching that, man, it
- 1:18:08was cool. And besides that, it's just
- 1:18:12like, OK, you kind of know who's going to be there.
- 1:18:15You want to see what they're going to say, but you know it.
- 1:18:17And it's been like that for years.
- 1:18:18Like I said, even when Fuente was here.
- 1:18:20But to have or if something somebody was going to flip, they
- 1:18:24were flipping away from us. But to have something, you know,
- 1:18:28good positive happen, it's like the cherry on top.
- 1:18:32So I was excited about it. Yeah, it was nice to see us.
- 1:18:37You know, other than the the early flip, which I think a lot
- 1:18:41of us knew is, you know, once he got offered that offer, he was
- 1:18:43going to take it. You know, the the staff really
- 1:18:48holding this class together despite a lot of adversity from
- 1:18:51for the team throughout the 24 season, you know, including,
- 1:18:57yeah, I think some may or may not have known at the time, but
- 1:19:00the, you know, the the coach is being shown the door.
- 1:19:05Holding that class together was really important, especially
- 1:19:07getting to flip there at the end with Jamari Deloach that I mean,
- 1:19:10I think, you know, this class is, you know, composite about
- 1:19:17kind of where we've been. But as far as average recruit
- 1:19:19rank, pretty, pretty solid, you know, top 30 in, in the average
- 1:19:25recruit rank, so almost 10 spots higher than the composite rank
- 1:19:29there. So it's, it's, it's going to be
- 1:19:32interesting to see what, you know, what we can do with that.
- 1:19:39But I'm excited about this group.
- 1:19:40I think it's a, it's a good, it's a deep group, even if it's
- 1:19:43not a ton of, you know, super top in, you know, folks in the
- 1:19:48class. Anything on this show and we
- 1:19:50know, I know you do not follow recruiting as close as you once
- 1:19:53did. There no.
- 1:19:55For the sake of my mental health, I do not.
- 1:19:57And half of these guys, half of these guys are going to transfer
- 1:20:01out, you know, some are going to get, you know, injured.
- 1:20:03Some of them don't perform well. Like, I mean, you just you just
- 1:20:05don't even know. Like so it's true, but it does
- 1:20:08seem like it's kind of in line historically with, you know,
- 1:20:09kind of where V TS at from a average recruit ranking
- 1:20:12perspective. So if you bring them in, develop
- 1:20:15them, retain them, hopefully you can kind of do something good
- 1:20:17with it. So seems like a pretty good
- 1:20:18class. Right, so Sheldon, if you want
- 1:20:20to go off camera and eat that yummy food you were talking
- 1:20:23about for the next 5 to 6 minutes, feel free to so we
- 1:20:26don't have to ask you any more questions, but I will ask Brian
- 1:20:30and tally this and I'll show me with my own.
- 1:20:33Who is y'all's favorite recruiter of this class?
- 1:20:40Tally, I'll I'll let you go, but.
- 1:20:43You don't let me go. I mean, the obvious speak is
- 1:20:45going to be Jeffrey Overton junior for me, because for for
- 1:20:50Virginia Tech purposes, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:20:52Like looking at a running back like that and being able to
- 1:20:55recruit one out of high school, We haven't done that well
- 1:21:00lately. I know some people got excited
- 1:21:02because he got the big bump towards the end, but he was he's
- 1:21:05been that the whole year. So I mean, he is an explosive
- 1:21:08running back and I feel like he is the kind of playmaker that we
- 1:21:13need at running back. So definitely was excited about
- 1:21:15him, but just for selfish purposes, probably my favorite
- 1:21:19recruit would be Michael Matthews just because he's a A2
- 1:21:24sport guy. He plays baseball.
- 1:21:26So me and my son have kind of talked about him and watched him
- 1:21:29and I've watched his progression and not just watched him in
- 1:21:31football but watched his his PBR stuff in baseball as well.
- 1:21:36There's some videos out there about how he how he prepares for
- 1:21:41games and and turn baseball tournaments and stuff.
- 1:21:43So this is that that's, you know, pretty exciting to me.
- 1:21:46So I would probably say just selfish, selfish purposes wise,
- 1:21:51probably Michael Matthews. That's you, Siegel.
- 1:21:56You know, I like, I like Overton as well, but to be a little
- 1:22:00different. I'm going to go with a little
- 1:22:02little Halifax season in here. I'm going to go with with AJ
- 1:22:06Brand at Irmo SC Pops played at Curtis and Mize High School is
- 1:22:14in the Halifax County Sports Hall of Fame.
- 1:22:17Emery Henry Hall of Fame. Emery Henry, Hall of Fame, he's
- 1:22:20a, he's a Odak legend. So, you know, coming from that
- 1:22:25pedigree, playing the the level of talent that he's playing down
- 1:22:28there there in Irmo SC in Columbia, that's a that's a big
- 1:22:34deal. Took it wire to wire the state
- 1:22:37championship lost by, you know, on a on a late field goal there
- 1:22:41at the end. So that that was a tough one to
- 1:22:44swallow there. But I mean, that's that's a guy
- 1:22:46that, you know, did it at the highest level down there in his
- 1:22:49state and is, you know, coming to Virginia Tech to improve on
- 1:22:51that. Yep, and he was the Gatorade
- 1:22:56player of the year down there as well.
- 1:22:57A JS for real held in for real as well.
- 1:23:01I think bringing 2IN was very smart, but I'm going to go for
- 1:23:03another 2 for here and I think it's probably more exciting
- 1:23:07because of what they are and it's Brett Clatterbaugh.
- 1:23:13Oh yeah. Yeah, up.
- 1:23:14In up in Culpepper and then Noah Chambers up at the map though,
- 1:23:18yeah, they're both 6 foot one. Noah for me.
- 1:23:21Noah for me, but but both of them are linebackers.
- 1:23:26They are linebackers. There's 61622 fifteen 225
- 1:23:31already coming out. They play the positions and
- 1:23:34we've been, we've been saying we need linebackers.
- 1:23:37Yep. Finally got Woodson in.
- 1:23:40We saw what happened. I.
- 1:23:41Converted safeties we need not. Converted safeties, right,
- 1:23:44linebackers. So seeing those two guys and
- 1:23:46then seeing how high those two guys are rated because both of
- 1:23:49those guys and people can talk about linebackers.
- 1:23:52I consider linebackers 3. So if you're getting a top 150
- 1:23:57linebacker, you are getting a legitimate D1 line, right?
- 1:24:02Platter ball is 68, Chambers is 89.
- 1:24:05Yeah. They are both legitimate
- 1:24:08linebackers in this class because you got middle, weak
- 1:24:12side, strong side, they're linebackers.
- 1:24:15So I love that. All right, now I'm going to ask
- 1:24:19this because we we've we've mentioned our favorites and why.
- 1:24:24So who has to hit? You look at this list and say if
- 1:24:27that MF for hits right there, it's good things.
- 1:24:32Mine was, I mean, to take what you said, no, no, no.
- 1:24:35To take what you said, mine would be clatterball.
- 1:24:38Like just looking at it and looking at what the staffer is.
- 1:24:43Brett Pryor is a defensive guy, you know, work with linebackers.
- 1:24:48And then you talk about Marv when he was in there being a
- 1:24:51linebacker guy and defensive coordinator and we could not get
- 1:24:55linebackers. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:24:57We miss on these true linebackers for the last couple
- 1:25:02of years and you're just waiting to get somebody like a
- 1:25:07Clatterball, honestly, like if Clatterball can just give me
- 1:25:13some deck, some some Dax Holyfield type performances.
- 1:25:17He'll write his ticket at Virginia Tech from now on.
- 1:25:20He don't even have to be great. He just got to get a bloody nose
- 1:25:23and put a Band-Aid over it, like make a couple tackles, you know,
- 1:25:27fill a gap. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:25:29Like, but I, I really think like if if we can hit on one of those
- 1:25:33linebackers like you said, But I think it's mainly mainly mainly
- 1:25:40clatterball to me for what he is, what he looks like.
- 1:25:44He looks like a Virginia Tech guy.
- 1:25:47You know what I'm saying? He looks like what Hokey Nation
- 1:25:50would get behind for him to be a great linebacker, middle
- 1:25:56linebacker. For obvious purposes of what we
- 1:26:03really need right now, I'm hoping that Carter Stallard is,
- 1:26:08is somebody that we can rely on on the offensive line.
- 1:26:13I mean, you can make the same case for Nathaniel Wright as
- 1:26:15well. You know, they're both kind of
- 1:26:17position wise about the kind of at the same level, you know,
- 1:26:24from a position standpoint. I just think we we got to start
- 1:26:28hitting on some of these offensive lineman and they were
- 1:26:31probably talking about a cycle or two before they're going to
- 1:26:34see any sort of significant playing time.
- 1:26:36Just that that's the way offensive line works.
- 1:26:38You're not going to get a a ton of true freshman.
- 1:26:43You're getting significant snaps in games, but I I need those two
- 1:26:48guys to have been hits and good evaluations by this staff
- 1:26:52because we're going to need them in the near future all.
- 1:26:56Right. I'm going to give you all mine
- 1:26:58now, and it's because I think it's the disrespect he was
- 1:27:02given. It's Christian Evans, a man won
- 1:27:07the defensive player at the UA camp back in the summer.
- 1:27:11He didn't get bumps. He didn't get more looks.
- 1:27:15I think he can hit he's Six 2 1/2.
- 1:27:17He's coming in at about two 75285 probably can grow into the
- 1:27:21two 95300 range and I think it's more if you hit on him, it's
- 1:27:25that chip because I think if he gets the opportunity, I think
- 1:27:28everyday somebody like JC prices, remember you beat all
- 1:27:33those five stars asses in those drills.
- 1:27:36They didn't give you love. He's going to come in with a
- 1:27:39chip and I think if he hits, it's I think chess.
- 1:27:42Virginia Tech type player right goes out, whoops, everybody's
- 1:27:45ass at the practice. Don't get the respect.
- 1:27:48Oh, he's going Virginia Tech Don't don't don't give him the
- 1:27:50four-star. Don't bump him any higher.
- 1:27:54Christian Evans is not let's go off that and the bowl season so
- 1:28:02fucked up, y'all, and I'm being very honest with this.
- 1:28:06I didn't do any research. We're going to Charlotte, which
- 1:28:09means a lot of people are going to get to go.
- 1:28:11Mayo Mayo baby. Mayo Bowl Brent Prime might get
- 1:28:16dumped mayonnaise on his head, which would be hilarious.
- 1:28:21Minnesota has nine guys in the portals and six guys already
- 1:28:24opted out, including I believe they're starting left tackle who
- 1:28:27went to Ohio State. So we ain't the only one losing
- 1:28:30it to thank you. Lord.
- 1:28:32Yeah, but I mean, is there anything Shelton?
- 1:28:36I mean, I mean, I watch some of their games, their physical
- 1:28:39football team, they like to push it down field, but it's so tough
- 1:28:44because you don't know who's playing.
- 1:28:46Yeah, I don't even know who's on the team.
- 1:28:48If their whole team was there. I'm not.
- 1:28:50Watching. One, I've not watched one game
- 1:28:53with Minnesota, not no disrespect to them, I just
- 1:28:57they're not a team that I've paid attention to this hey.
- 1:28:59Where's Jason? He's watched at least 2.
- 1:29:02Yeah. Why are you playing Princeton
- 1:29:05about your own? Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 1:29:07So it'll be interesting though. It'll be interesting to see.
- 1:29:11It is someone we've ever. Played.
- 1:29:12I just do not need us to go and do what we did against Maryland
- 1:29:16a couple of years ago. Please God, I can't take that.
- 1:29:20I, I, I think the, the rosters are a little bit more comparable
- 1:29:24in terms of losses than it was in that Maryland matchup.
- 1:29:29Now, I think offensive line is going to be such a question mark
- 1:29:33because I think the guys that we're going to plug in have some
- 1:29:37potential, but they don't have the, the, the experience,
- 1:29:40experience and reps to really feel like you can lean on them.
- 1:29:44I think Garrett's going to be fine.
- 1:29:47Not going to be. Fine at, at, at, at left tackle.
- 1:29:50Brody's going to be fine. You might see Ganem.
- 1:29:53I'm most worried about centre. So if, if, if, if Centre is at
- 1:29:58least solid, then I think we've got a decent chance of of being
- 1:30:02competitive. If.
- 1:30:03If it's not, then all bets are off.
- 1:30:08Shelton, anything on them? Nope, nothing.
- 1:30:12I mean, it's, it's it, it here's the upside.
- 1:30:16It's going to be on Friday night after the new year.
- 1:30:18So we all will be off work, right?
- 1:30:22And that's the one upside. I think Robbie's going to go
- 1:30:26down because his wife's grandfather can put it up there,
- 1:30:30went to Minnesota and as a Hall of Famer.
- 1:30:32So it might be tents in his house.
- 1:30:35I mean, if somebody offered me a ticket, maybe.
- 1:30:39I know prices like people like $145.00 and it's like no.
- 1:30:45I know I get this point, but I mean so they die for real for
- 1:30:49real. Yeah, but we don't know.
- 1:30:53We don't know what they have left.
- 1:30:54We don't know what's there. So like, I think now what bowl
- 1:30:58season is get your drink, get your snacks and just enjoy
- 1:31:03watching football because it's cold outside.
- 1:31:05You can't do anything. Me and Brian, we, we, we buried,
- 1:31:10I went to Kings Dominion Saturday.
- 1:31:11I think Brian went to Busch Gardens Saturday.
- 1:31:13It was cold. I was out there for five hours.
- 1:31:16I was cold at the end of the day.
- 1:31:17So just stay inside, watch football, drink very good food.
- 1:31:23Yeah, I'm alright with that. Exactly first, but this is the
- 1:31:28first meeting of these two programs, and both have been
- 1:31:32playing football since the 1890s.
- 1:31:35Hey, fuck a Gopher. Go Hokies.
- 1:31:38Fuck that little bastard something.
- 1:31:40But now, as always, even though we do not have a musical melody
- 1:31:44this week, because the man wanted to take some time off and
- 1:31:47it was fine. He done 12/13 for us.
- 1:31:51We are going to pick the first four playoff games because A, it
- 1:31:56happens this Friday. It's some intriguing matchups
- 1:31:59all across. It's basically going to be on
- 1:32:01your TV Friday night, all day Saturday at the home fields.
- 1:32:05The ticket prices are ranging. Notre Dame's going like 475 a
- 1:32:11ticket, Penn State as cheap as 60.
- 1:32:14And people like this is stupid. Why is Penn State going so
- 1:32:16cheap? And I think I've heard most of
- 1:32:18people say, do you know where State College, PA is?
- 1:32:21You think Blacksburg is tough to get to?
- 1:32:24Yeah, at least an Interstate runs a few miles away from
- 1:32:29Blacksburg, so we are going to make picks here.
- 1:32:34We'll go in Order of the Game Friday night.
- 1:32:36We are picking against the spread everybody you see on the
- 1:32:39screen here, along with our contributing rider, Miranda and
- 1:32:43our music man, Jason. So where are we starting?
- 1:32:46Brian Siegler. We are starting at South Bend,
- 1:32:49buddy. And this, this, you know, we,
- 1:32:53when we talked about the the potential good matchups, you
- 1:32:57know, this, this was I think when we mentioned because we
- 1:32:59wanted to see Notre Dame get a home game.
- 1:33:03We want to see Penn State get a home game just to create some
- 1:33:05intriguing December matchups. We got it, It's here.
- 1:33:12I think this is going to be closer than what Vegas has.
- 1:33:14They've got a 7 1/2 spread there with Notre Dame favorite.
- 1:33:20I think it's going to be a little less than a touchdown.
- 1:33:22I think I think the Hoosiers are going to come to play a little
- 1:33:24bit. So I'm going to take the
- 1:33:28Hoosiers here. I think it's still going to be a
- 1:33:30Notre Dame victory, but it's not going to be over a touchdown.
- 1:33:35All right. I'm opposite Joe on this.
- 1:33:37I think it's going to be an entertaining game.
- 1:33:39But I think what we saw with Indiana against Ohio State, you
- 1:33:46saw when it went, when they got out talented, it just didn't
- 1:33:51work. Now saying that I'm taking Notre
- 1:33:54Dame, I'll lay the seven and a half.
- 1:33:55I think it's about a 10 point game somewhere, 3121.
- 1:33:59I think it's entertaining on Friday night.
- 1:34:02But I think for Indiana and I think we're going to see this
- 1:34:05weekend across the spectrum, what do the underdogs do to win
- 1:34:11these games? I always go back to Oklahoma,
- 1:34:14Boise State 18 years ago and what they did, Hail Mary or
- 1:34:18excuse me, Statue of Liberty, shovel pass, all that hook and
- 1:34:23ladder, all that crazy shit for Indiana to win this game.
- 1:34:27I don't think they can. But if they do fake punts, fake
- 1:34:30field goals, wild trick plays, and I think that goes across
- 1:34:35with the exception of the last game, with the exception of the
- 1:34:39last two games, the first two games, I think that's how the
- 1:34:42underdogs can pull the upset. Shelton, what do you got in this
- 1:34:44game? I think Notre Dame will win, but
- 1:34:49I do have Indiana to cover. I just, I don't trust Indiana
- 1:34:54for that performance against Iowa State.
- 1:34:55And I think Ohio State's a pretty, pretty comparable team
- 1:34:57to Notre Dame. Tally.
- 1:35:02Oh yeah, I'm going Notre Dame. I mean, they don't get Rudy on
- 1:35:05the sideline to cheer my own and go ahead and two touchdown
- 1:35:10victory. 2 touchdowns. 2 touchdowns.
- 1:35:12Is it going to be? Entertaining though.
- 1:35:14Is it going to be an ugly 2 touchdown win?
- 1:35:17I don't know, man, I, I just, I was OK with Indiana until Robbie
- 1:35:23kept talking about him. What was he called them, paper
- 1:35:26tigers or something? Paper Tigers.
- 1:35:28Yeah, so I mean, he got that in my head.
- 1:35:31I went to sleep with that on and then they got blew out that week
- 1:35:34and so I got no confidence in them.
- 1:35:36Thanks, Robbie. 11-1 team, no confidence.
- 1:35:41Hey, Miranda's riding with you there, and so is Jason.
- 1:35:45So Sheldon and I out there on an island a little bit.
- 1:35:48By the way, game time temperature.
- 1:35:50Now both of these teams are from Indiana, so obviously there is
- 1:35:54not a huge weather factor there. 28 seven mile an hour winds.
- 1:35:58There is a slight chance of snow showers Friday night in South
- 1:36:02and Yep. Yep, the the advantage that they
- 1:36:06have is is just just the just the home atmosphere in general,
- 1:36:11not necessarily the weather. Right, Hundred percent, 100%.
- 1:36:15All righty. Next we go to State College, the
- 1:36:19SMU Mustangs versus the Penn State Nittany Lions.
- 1:36:25This one it going to be cold and Dallas, which I know it can get
- 1:36:29cold. It's going to be 26 at game
- 1:36:33time. Kick is going to be about it's
- 1:36:35going to be 12 mile an hour winds.
- 1:36:39Penn State laying 8 1/2. Brian, what do you think on this
- 1:36:42one? Mountain cold is different than
- 1:36:46Plains cold, so for that I I'm going to give Penn State the
- 1:36:52advantage, but I'm not going to give them 8 1/2.
- 1:36:55I got SMU losing but it's going to be on a late field goal.
- 1:37:02All righty, definitely different in the the weather with the cold
- 1:37:07and the of of where you live, because certain because 31 place
- 1:37:12ain't 30 the other. I think 8 1/2 is too much.
- 1:37:16I think what SMU did just a couple weeks ago down in
- 1:37:19Charlotte proved they're going to be able to handle a physical
- 1:37:22defensive line, which Penn State has, which Clemson has.
- 1:37:27Similar to what I said with Indiana, they're going to have
- 1:37:30to pull some tricks out of the bag.
- 1:37:33But I this is like, of all the games where it's you, you, you
- 1:37:40look and say, well, they don't have a shot against them.
- 1:37:43I think SMU does have a shot. I really do.
- 1:37:46I think SMU has a shot to pull off the upset.
- 1:37:50James Franklin's record in in basically ranked games.
- 1:37:54It's not great. And also the big thing that went
- 1:37:58out there this week, I know you all saw it.
- 1:38:00The backup quarterback is gone. They do not have a backup
- 1:38:05quarterback. So if Drew Alar were to get
- 1:38:07popped, I don't know who it is because the backup, the guy is
- 1:38:11effectively the effectively thought he was going to get a
- 1:38:16shot next year. Jim going to the game.
- 1:38:19Nice. What?
- 1:38:20Wrap up, Jim, don't freeze out there.
- 1:38:22But I think SMU does have a chance.
- 1:38:24Go ahead, Shelton. I'll take I'll take Penn State's
- 1:38:28going to win, but I do think SMU will cover same same stories
- 1:38:31last time. Yeah, I'm following along with
- 1:38:34everybody else. I think, I think Penn State will
- 1:38:38get this game, but I mean SMU seem to be resilient and if they
- 1:38:43lose it's going to be a close loss.
- 1:38:47Miranda's riding with us, Jason out on an island.
- 1:38:55Again, though, I like this round.
- 1:38:58I think you're getting these type of matchups in this type of
- 1:39:01environment with playoff stakes on the line.
- 1:39:04It's so fucking cool. It is like this.
- 1:39:07This is the thing in in in the thing that I appreciate most
- 1:39:11about the current playoff structure.
- 1:39:14Like there, there's plenty of things that we can complain one
- 1:39:17way or the other about, but this is the one element of it that
- 1:39:20they got right. 100% almost no, no debate, right?
- 1:39:24So right. I love that so.
- 1:39:27All righty, let's go down to Austin, TX where we ain't gonna
- 1:39:32look at the weather cuz it's sick, cuz it's gonna be like 60°
- 1:39:35to kick off, maybe a chance of actually no chance of showers
- 1:39:38there. 60° to kick off on Saturday afternoon.
- 1:39:43So it's going to be nice and lovely.
- 1:39:44It's going to feel just like a normal fall day.
- 1:39:47Clemson goes. Clemson coming in, big win with
- 1:39:51the ACC championship. Texas Lane, 11 1/2.
- 1:39:56Brian, what do you think? How come, man?
- 1:40:01How come? I still don't know what to think
- 1:40:05about this Clemson team. They've they've shown some good,
- 1:40:09they've shown some bad. They've shown some ugly.
- 1:40:14I think if you don't have a couple blunders from SMU at the
- 1:40:16start of that game, that goes a different way.
- 1:40:20I think Texas is a little bit better than SMU.
- 1:40:23So I won't I'm going to take the Longhorns here.
- 1:40:26It it's barely going to creep over that 11 1/2, but I've I've
- 1:40:30got them clearing it just enough all.
- 1:40:33Righty. I don't know.
- 1:40:35You can ask Robbie if I can put that up there.
- 1:40:36Brian, how long you get a trophy?
- 1:40:38Got to recruit first of all right there.
- 1:40:41Horns down 11 1/2, way too much Texas has not been right for did
- 1:40:50not look right versus Georgia. That was not the Texas team I
- 1:40:53had seen all year. I want to just outright call
- 1:40:57this I think Dabo because he's got in there, he's got in their
- 1:41:02fucking heads that damn, what's the name of the place?
- 1:41:05The church. He's got the church shit going
- 1:41:07on in their head. Don't know by believe in you
- 1:41:10y'all can't win. I think Clemson shocks the world
- 1:41:14pulls the upset Saturday afternoon.
- 1:41:17So give me the 11 1/2 Clemson outright win.
- 1:41:20I think Texas big. Texas big.
- 1:41:23There we go. I'm not.
- 1:41:24I don't think Clemson wins the game, but I think that they
- 1:41:28don't lose by 12 points. So I took Clemson, all right?
- 1:41:35Miranda rode with with Curtis and Tally, Jason riding with
- 1:41:40with me and Sheldon here. All right, last one.
- 1:41:44It's a big one. You know, of course, that's it.
- 1:41:49They're all big. The venues are all big, the game
- 1:41:53is all big. The atmospheres are going to be
- 1:41:55big in the Shoe Saturday night. Columbus, OH, 25° chance of snow
- 1:42:02showers, I believe, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:42:05Just let me confirm that. Yeah, chance of snow showers
- 1:42:11there. Tennessee, but Tennessee is in
- 1:42:16the mountains, so there's your weather not affecting it.
- 1:42:19Ohio State lane 7. Who's winning this one, Brian?
- 1:42:25Not giving the hook here made this one really hard to pick.
- 1:42:30If that was 7 and a hook, it would have been Tennessee.
- 1:42:33No problem. I toiled on this one, but I
- 1:42:35ultimately stuck with Tennessee. I think it's going to be a a a
- 1:42:41very tight game. I don't know if it'll come down
- 1:42:43to a field goal, 6 points, something like that, but I think
- 1:42:46they'll do just enough to keep it close.
- 1:42:50I'm exact opposite of you, I think.
- 1:42:52Again, entertaining game, I think.
- 1:42:55Is that what I gave you? You gave me Tennessee.
- 1:42:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going back to my thought
- 1:42:59process here. But two good teams, man.
- 1:43:04I gave it to you. Well, we're going to go Tuesday.
- 1:43:06But then, you know, they told us that COVID was going to commit
- 1:43:09at 9:00, so we had to push it back a day.
- 1:43:11So you know. But I've I've got the receipts
- 1:43:17if we need receipts. You do you and, and now that you
- 1:43:20put it up there, it's like I'm I'm kind of where Brian was. 7
- 1:43:24is just not enough to lay. These are two good teams, 2 good
- 1:43:27defensive teams, two teams with firepower, 2 teams with damn
- 1:43:32good running backs. Somebody tried to tell me
- 1:43:35Tennessee's running backs better than Henderson.
- 1:43:38Maybe it's just my Virginia ties.
- 1:43:39I think Henderson's better than the tip from Tennessee, but
- 1:43:41Tennessee, Ohio State wins. Tennessee covers in a war in the
- 1:43:46cold. Sheldon Give.
- 1:43:49Me the Bucks. Oh, give me the bucks.
- 1:43:56Oh. Miranda said.
- 1:44:00Buckeyes. Jason, the Halifax Boys.
- 1:44:03Run. How's that?
- 1:44:06I think it's going to be some entertaining games regardless.
- 1:44:10Again, it's great to see you in these atmospheres.
- 1:44:12I think that's what we've wanted for years, and now we're getting
- 1:44:16it in the highest of stakes of game.
- 1:44:18So is anything has anybody else committed to make me, you know,
- 1:44:22get off the ledge? I think, I think we're.
- 1:44:24Good. But I feel a whole lot better
- 1:44:26than I did when we press record and and go live right before the
- 1:44:30Koval announcement came out, so. Right.
- 1:44:33Yeah. Powerful, powerful guy.
- 1:44:36Looks good. Looks good, yeah.
- 1:44:38He's going to be playing safety and not nickel like he was
- 1:44:41playing this last year with Clemson.
- 1:44:43Been injured this year. So I think it's going to be a a
- 1:44:46more natural fit for him. He looked really good at Clemson
- 1:44:50when he was playing a true safety.
- 1:44:51So let's do it. Let's hope so.
- 1:44:54All right. Well, with that, that does wrap
