Transcript
- 0:00Adam: Hello and welcome to the Adam and DJ show.
- 0:03Adam: Got another great one.
- 0:04Adam: We're still in San Diego and we're traveling up the Ice 15 today.
- 0:09Adam: I don't know which number that was.
- 0:12Dedra: An I something.
- 0:14Adam: But wince in some great places.
- 0:15Adam: But first, we must cheers.
- 0:17Adam: Cheers, everybody.
- 0:19Dedra: Cheers to another great show.
- 0:20Dedra: Great and fun show.
- 0:21Adam: Yeah, and we're drinking a beer from Timber Ales.
- 0:25Adam: And this is the most basic label I think I've ever seen.
- 0:30Adam: And I think it's part of the appeal.
- 0:32Adam: It's called Blended with Lumber Number Seven.
- 0:35Adam: It's a barrel blended Imperial Stout conditioned on coffee and vanilla.
- 0:43Adam: Sorry, it's kind of like a cursive.
- 0:44Adam: I haven't read uh read oh man.
- 0:48Adam: I haven't read coff uh read coffee in a while, huh?
- 0:54Dedra: I haven't either.
- 0:55Adam: Scratch everything.
- 0:56Adam: I'm starting over.
- 0:57Adam: I promise.
- 0:58Adam: That was my first sip.
- 0:59Adam: Broken promise.
- 1:03Adam: But I we bought this because of the label on it.
- 1:08Adam: It was so basic, barrel aged out in some random can with almost no label, just white silver can.
- 1:17Adam: Yeah, Timber Ales, which I think that's the name of the brewery, but it's kind of like, is it really?
- 1:23Adam: It was interesting.
- 1:26Adam: So I had to try it because actually you bought it for me.
- 1:30Dedra: Yes.
- 1:30Dedra: And it's actually uh and you know what?
- 1:33Dedra: This one's actually not that bad.
- 1:35Dedra: When I take a drink of it, um, I don't get the coffee.
- 1:38Dedra: Maybe it's the substitute flavor, but it tastes like mocha to me.
- 1:44Adam: Yeah.
- 1:44Dedra: And just like instead of that chocolate, that fudge, it's like a mocha.
- 1:48Adam: I kind of get a little bit of the coffee inside there.
- 1:51Adam: Um it's kind of like it's it's kind of hidden behind like that chocolatey flavor, which I don't even think this is chocolate.
- 1:58Adam: It's just coffee and vanilla, but it does have like that rich chocolate flavor to it.
- 2:03Dedra: I you know what?
- 2:05Dedra: I actually like it because it's not overly sweet and I'm not taking this sip, and I'm just like, I don't feel like my mouth is coated in sugar and I don't feel like my lips are getting sticky.
- 2:16Dedra: So it's actually really not that bad.
- 2:19Dedra: I I like this one.
- 2:21Adam: Yeah, I like it too.
- 2:22Adam: It's really good.
- 2:23Adam: I mean, that's not saying much.
- 2:24Adam: I mean, how many beers do I have there?
- 2:25Adam: I'm like you like every stout though.
- 2:29Adam: Not every stout.
- 2:30Adam: There's been some that I haven't, but I'm just I appreciate good beer.
- 2:34Adam: True.
- 2:35Dedra: I'm really getting into stouts.
- 2:37Dedra: I'm not gonna go out of my way and order a stout, but I'm not looking at the stouts anymore like, mm, I'm okay, I'll pass.
- 2:45Adam: I'll do that.
- 2:46Adam: But uh, we got a really fun episode for everybody today.
- 2:51Adam: We did a fun trip.
- 2:53Adam: Started in San Diego, and we took a little trip.
- 2:57Adam: We got suggested to go to a sandwich spot in Little Italy.
- 3:02Adam: So as we are driving up and down the streets trying to find some random parking on a Sunday, which was I felt like impossible almost.
- 3:10Dedra: Uh, we ran into Yeah, I was like, I don't think it should have been that hard.
- 3:14Dedra: But I think because we were out like late breakfast brunch on a Sunday, maybe that's why we had a little bit of an issue with parking.
- 3:22Dedra: Yeah.
- 3:22Dedra: But it was also San Diego area, too.
- 3:25Adam: So could be the 40 million people in in uh in that square mile.
- 3:30Adam: Um yeah, but we ran into Ballast Point, and that's been there for a while.
- 3:38Adam: We just, for some reason, have never gone to that one.
- 3:40Adam: We've been to the one in Miramar and some of their satellite locations, but unexpectedly just ran into it.
- 3:46Adam: We don't do like the Little Italy area very much.
- 3:49Adam: We stayed there once or maybe twice.
- 3:52Adam: I don't remember.
- 3:53Adam: Saw their farmers market if you've never been, it's pretty fun during the weekend.
- 3:57Adam: I think it's Saturdays they do that, don't they?
- 3:59Adam: That full farmers market down the street.
- 4:01Adam: Yeah.
- 4:01Adam: So really cool.
- 4:03Dedra: I don't know.
- 4:03Dedra: I don't really go to California for their farmers market.
- 4:08Adam: Very true.
- 4:09Adam: But we ran into it one day, and so we went to we found Ballast Point, and this is like first thing in the morning.
- 4:14Adam: We left the hotel room.
- 4:15Adam: We're like, okay, we need to get like breakfast or we need to get coffee, we need to do something.
- 4:21Adam: And get our day going.
- 4:23Adam: Yeah.
- 4:23Adam: So we went to a brewery.
- 4:25Dedra: Well, we're driving around, like you said, we're driving around trying to find parking, and I ended up turning down this one street, and I was like, Oh, there's some parking right there.
- 4:33Dedra: And I look up and I was like, it was like just the light dawned on this place, and I was like, oh my god, it's ballast point.
- 4:41Dedra: And I was like, that coffee, that coffee can wait.
- 4:45Dedra: So parked.
- 4:47Dedra: And then I was like, ah, crap, because it was just so like I saw that the parking spot still last second.
- 4:52Dedra: I was like, so I took a hard right into that parking spot, nailed it, and then got out.
- 4:57Dedra: And I was like, nope, I did not nail my park job.
- 5:00Dedra: I was like, dude, I told I just like parked like a total asshole.
- 5:06Adam: I'm like, do you want me to fix that for you?
- 5:09Dedra: Yeah, and I was about to say, you didn't have to say all that, but you could have just been like, well, I was gonna say, oh, and you're so nice and gentleman-ish like or gentle gentlemanlike, and you got out and fixed my parking spot for my park job.
- 5:24Adam: And of course, other people are trying to park right when I try to straighten it.
- 5:27Adam: So that that was kind of dumb, but but all that driving around and the parking just happened to be in front of a brewery.
- 5:34Adam: So that was pretty cool.
- 5:35Dedra: I mean, if if that's not um It's a sign.
- 5:39Dedra: Yeah, like it's it's a sign, it's a sign from the Lord.
- 5:44Adam: You shall have beer.
- 5:45Dedra: Yeah.
- 5:46Adam: It's one of the commandments.
- 5:49Dedra: I think it's like the the 19th or the 20th.
- 5:51Dedra: Yeah, something like that.
- 5:52Adam: I was gonna say like the first, but you know, whatever.
- 5:55Dedra: Actually, the first one right here says that thou shalt have a beer.
- 6:00Dedra: You're right, damn it.
- 6:05Adam: But that was good.
- 6:06Adam: So it went in there, and I feel like Ballast Point is almost nostalgic.
- 6:11Adam: We've had their beer for many, many, many years.
- 6:15Adam: Their sculping IPA series, they're classic.
- 6:19Adam: Yeah, I mean, just it just tastes like San Diego, I feel like.
- 6:24Adam: And I got went in there, I saw their watermelon Drotto double IPA.
- 6:30Adam: That's like a good 10%.
- 6:32Adam: I got it for the first time at the San Diego Festival of Beer when we used to go there probably 10 years ago.
- 6:39Adam: And I think that was the first time I had that particular one.
- 6:41Adam: And I remember going to Gas Lamp later, probably not that same day, but maybe the next day, and I saw it on tap over there, and I'm like, okay, I just had this at the beer festival.
- 6:50Adam: Give me that one.
- 6:52Adam: And I think I've only had like a couple beers that had like the IPAs that had watermelon flavor to it.
- 6:57Adam: And that one is one of my favorites.
- 7:00Adam: The other one's from that brewery, I think.
- 7:03Dedra: You're right, because I ordered, well, before I ordered mine, I saw what you were getting, and I was like, watermelon.
- 7:09Dedra: For some reason I couldn't place it.
- 7:11Dedra: And I already had my beer picked out, and I can't remember specifically what it was anymore, but you were like, hey, they've got Micheladas here.
- 7:17Dedra: And I'm like, oh shoot.
- 7:19Dedra: Well, you know what?
- 7:20Dedra: Sold.
- 7:20Dedra: I think I'm gonna have myself a Michelada.
- 7:22Dedra: And that was it was good, it was really good.
- 7:24Dedra: And you know, Ballast Point has those tall glasses that look like um the shake or like a smoothie glass.
- 7:31Dedra: It has like a little mini stem on it, so it came out and it was just it was beautiful, it was perfect, it was everything that I was hoping a Michelada would be on a Sunday morning.
- 7:40Dedra: I was like, you know, we probably still have alcohol in our system a little bit from the night before, and then we're starting off at 11:15, probably with some more beer.
- 7:52Dedra: Unintentionally, we did set up for trying to find some coffee and some breakfast.
- 7:56Adam: And we still have like a hundred miles to go, too.
- 8:00Dedra: So we had good intentions on starting out, you know, our morning with like the normal person coffee, but I mean at the parking spot took us to where it took us.
- 8:09Dedra: So we ordered our drinks, and then I ended up ordering just a small appetizer of just chips and guacamole, and that was perfect.
- 8:16Dedra: Chips and guacamole with the mitrolata on a Sunday morning.
- 8:20Dedra: That was that hit the spot.
- 8:22Dedra: Yeah, it hit a spot that I didn't even know existed, and I'm like, oh, this is great.
- 8:30Adam: You said that you didn't know what you had a beer already picked out, and you don't remember what it was.
- 8:33Adam: Can I venture a guess?
- 8:36Dedra: No, because you're gonna say, oh, hazy.
- 8:39Dedra: So knock it off.
- 8:43Adam: I'm pretty sure everybody that's watching this is like, she probably picked out a hazy.
- 8:48Dedra: Okay.
- 8:49Adam: But hey, we went to a brewery, we both had a beer, and neither of them were hazy's.
- 8:54Adam: I mean, mine was still an IPA, but uh That is true.
- 8:58Dedra: I did not order a hazy on this trip, so Yeah, you did.
- 9:02Adam: Not just not that stop.
- 9:04Dedra: No, I that's what I mean in that ballast point.
- 9:06Dedra: So we had one encounter.
- 9:08Dedra: So we had and in front of where we were sitting by the bar, just off to the side, they have like this huge section of all their merchandise, of all their hats and beanies, tons of shirts and jackets and bags and all of that stuff.
- 9:21Dedra: Like they had a they had a huge section, a plethora, if you will.
- 9:27Adam: Would you say they had a plethora?
- 9:29Adam: What does a plethora mean?
- 9:34Dedra: Exactly.
- 9:34Adam: You say that somebody has a plethora.
- 9:36Adam: You gotta know what a plethora means.
- 9:40Dedra: Hey, stop quoting my lane.
- 9:42Dedra: So we took our beers, we left a left the bar top, and we took our beers to go cruise around the merch.
- 9:49Dedra: And then I don't know if you took yours.
- 9:52Dedra: Did you take yours or did you have to do that?
- 9:54Adam: No, I left mine because I'm like, we're just gonna go look at some hats.
- 9:57Dedra: So I have mine walking around taking a look at everything.
- 10:00Dedra: We come back and your beer is gone.
- 10:02Dedra: Thankfully.
- 10:03Dedra: Yeah, they left everything but the chips and guacamole, which I'm super thankful for.
- 10:09Dedra: Yeah.
- 10:10Dedra: But we come back and I was like, oh man, it's like my water's gone.
- 10:14Dedra: And then you're like, oh, my beer's gone and my water is gone.
- 10:18Dedra: I'm like, well, glad I took mine with me.
- 10:20Adam: Hey, but you know what?
- 10:21Adam: They hooked it up.
- 10:22Adam: They went and for me another one.
- 10:23Adam: The guy came around, he's like, Oh, I thought you guys left.
- 10:26Adam: I'm like, we didn't even pay.
- 10:28Dedra: Well, that is true.
- 10:29Dedra: Like, I don't know why he didn't think about that.
- 10:31Dedra: Well, no, he didn't, see, he didn't, he wasn't serving us anyways.
- 10:34Dedra: Oh, yeah.
- 10:34Dedra: So maybe that's why.
- 10:36Dedra: But and I I was starting to get a headache and I probably just needed food.
- 10:41Dedra: So my head was starting to hurt.
- 10:42Dedra: So I went out to the car really quick to grab some ibuprofen as I was walking out, and the guys are right there at the front door, either like replenishing the water, the cups or whatever it is.
- 10:51Dedra: And I was like, hey, I'm just going to go, I'll be right back.
- 10:55Dedra: Don't touch my don't touch my Michelata.
- 10:57Dedra: It's right there.
- 11:00Dedra: I got my eye on you.
- 11:03Adam: Yeah.
- 11:04Adam: But that was a really cool place.
- 11:06Adam: Like the bar was like a wraparound, so it even turned like a corner.
- 11:10Adam: Uh Ballast Point has a lot of beers that they have on tap, so they had a whole bunch there.
- 11:14Adam: Your beer, the Michelotta, actually had like a handle that said Michelata, even though it was just like one of their logers, probably their Mexican loger that they have that they have, but tons of taps.
- 11:24Adam: I mean, I could have spent a lot more time having beer, but I knew we had a long day ahead of us and we haven't even ate breakfast yet.
- 11:30Dedra: Right.
- 11:31Dedra: So not only was the inside a really good sized place, but it also led to um the patio outside.
- 11:38Dedra: And that would have been super cool.
- 11:39Dedra: Although, I don't know, there was a lot of planes.
- 11:41Dedra: There's like an airport or a landing strip right there.
- 11:44Dedra: Yeah.
- 11:44Dedra: So San Diego Airport.
- 11:46Dedra: Oh, oh, really?
- 11:47Dedra: You don't say.
- 11:50Dedra: But it was, it just flew right over.
- 11:54Dedra: So it was kind of scary because when you're not expecting it and you get like this plane that looks like you can reach up and touch the bottom of it, it's a little scary.
- 12:05Dedra: Yeah.
- 12:07Dedra: And then it's just it's loud.
- 12:09Dedra: So it's like you almost got to grab your beer and you know, just make sure it doesn't go rattling off the tabletop.
- 12:14Dedra: Oh no.
- 12:15Dedra: Right.
- 12:16Dedra: Get the guacamole, get the water, screw the water, grab the beers.
- 12:23Adam: But it had like a full restaurant inside there, which is cool.
- 12:26Adam: And then that side area where they had the merchandise, they had like a couch seating area.
- 12:31Adam: I mean, this big window where you can look at where they brew a bunch of the beers.
- 12:35Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 12:36Adam: And then they had an outside too, a patio section.
- 12:38Adam: So it was like it was a pretty large uh suite, I guess, or the pretty large place for it to be in San Diego downtown.
- 12:47Dedra: Right.
- 12:47Dedra: But I feel like almost all the ballast points are like that.
- 12:49Dedra: I feel like almost all the locations are big that way.
- 12:52Adam: Yeah, very true.
- 12:53Dedra: When you go outside, you go from having like just like regular conversation, like, hey, this is the places I want to hit today, and then, and then later, we should check this place out.
- 13:03Dedra: Because like there's a plane, you know, coming overhead, and then everybody just has like this blank stare, like, what?
- 13:09Dedra: And then you're just like, We should go, and then plane's gone, and then like you're still yelling at everybody.
- 13:16Adam: Hey, wasn't that on Waynes World?
- 13:19Dedra: Oh, yeah, it was that part when they're watching the planes land, that's right.
- 13:25Adam: Um, but I mean, we went to the downtown Disney one, that one's really cool being upstairs right above downtown Disney.
- 13:32Adam: The Miramar one, man, I'm so disappointed.
- 13:34Adam: So that one we confirmed is closed, and that was probably one of their most beautiful facilities, just huge.
- 13:42Adam: Was that their original?
- 13:43Adam: I'm not sure.
- 13:44Adam: It probably wasn't their original one, but that's like that was like their main one.
- 13:48Adam: That one was huge and it and it closed.
- 13:50Adam: So I'm I'm pretty disappointed about that.
- 13:52Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:54Adam: But we went to Little Italy because somebody told us about a place out there called Mona Lisa, and it's like an Italian deli.
- 14:03Adam: And it was actually Joey from original 40.
- 14:06Adam: So thanks for the suggestion.
- 14:07Adam: And uh went there and it's like totally like just all the Italian uh grow, it's like a grocer, pretty much.
- 14:16Adam: They have a restaurant on one side, and then the deli and uh grocery store on the other side, and that was really neat.
- 14:23Adam: I mean, there were people walking in there, there was a guy with two little kids, and he's speaking Italian to them and going picking up some groceries, and I'm like, dang, I'm like, is this like legit or what?
- 14:33Dedra: That was really cool to see and to hear, actually.
- 14:37Adam: Yeah, that was really neat.
- 14:38Dedra: And I feel like you really when you get around people that are just that comfortable and that's the place that they're going to get groceries and food, it really I feel like you almost get a glimpse and a feel for the culture.
- 14:50Dedra: And I love like the Italian culture.
- 14:52Dedra: I think it's amazing like the food and how hearty they eat and everything, the pasta that they make by hand, and just how much love and time that they take in going, you know, into making their food.
- 15:04Dedra: Um, and then just like how centered around family that they are and traditions and things like that.
- 15:09Dedra: So, in that aspect, I really love the Italian culture.
- 15:12Adam: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:13Dedra: The language.
- 15:15Adam: And then they had the deli where they got like you pick you pick your all your meats to get sliced by the pound.
- 15:20Adam: There was um sandwiches that you can order.
- 15:23Adam: So I mean, we're gonna get a sandwich.
- 15:25Adam: I love sandwiches, and it were they were like the sub style of like an Italian bread, and we got the deluxe sub, which came with uh mortadella salami and ham and provolone, along with lettuce, tomato, onion, and all that stuff, and Italian dressing, mustard, mayonnaise, all like pretty much the works.
- 15:44Dedra: Yeah, and you know, a deluxe.
- 15:46Adam: A deluxe, yeah.
- 15:47Adam: Sandwich deluxe.
- 15:48Adam: I don't know what that is in Italian panino supremo.
- 15:54Adam: I don't know.
- 15:56Adam: Primo fantastico.
- 15:58Adam: I don't know what it was.
- 15:59Dedra: Sounds good to me.
- 16:00Dedra: That's what I would go on insane.
- 16:03Adam: Yeah, so great, great sandwich.
- 16:06Adam: Uh we had we got it, and then we ended up sitting out on the patio, and I mean they're they're calling everybody's names, and you know, as everybody's trying to pick up their their their deli selections and sandwiches and stuff.
- 16:17Adam: We sat outside and it was what by that time, maybe noon 30.
- 16:23Adam: Yeah.
- 16:24Adam: And uh we're sitting outside, and even with the sun, and we was kind we had a little bit of shade, but it was comfortable.
- 16:30Adam: It was like 70 degrees out there, sitting there eating the sandwich.
- 16:34Adam: Now, I gotta say, it does not compare to the sandwich we had the night before, but it was a damn good sandwich.
- 16:41Adam: It was exactly what we needed.
- 16:42Adam: Nice good roll.
- 16:44Adam: I mean, that was just so good, and just to be sitting out there in San Diego, and I just felt like everything was carefree at that moment while we were sitting there eating that sandwich.
- 16:54Adam: Right.
- 16:55Dedra: So good.
- 16:55Dedra: We didn't have to get ready for work the next day.
- 16:58Adam: Very true.
- 16:59Dedra: We were in San Diego.
- 17:00Adam: Oh man, I had to work.
- 17:02Dedra: Oh, oh yeah.
- 17:03Dedra: That's right.
- 17:05Adam: That's all right.
- 17:06Adam: I was enjoying life like I didn't have to work the next day.
- 17:09Dedra: True.
- 17:10Adam: Yeah.
- 17:10Dedra: So we ate our sandwich, wrapped it up, and then we took our next drive down into well, first, we ended up getting our coffee.
- 17:19Adam: Yeah.
- 17:19Adam: So we so we left the Mona Lisa.
- 17:21Adam: We got our coffee, it was right across the street.
- 17:25Adam: It was called Prindia Vi.
- 17:28Dedra: I it looked busy because when we were eating, I was just kind of watching, you know, people watching, and I could see like this little corner coffee shop.
- 17:36Dedra: They was getting a lot of foot traffic.
- 17:38Dedra: So I was like, oh, perfect.
- 17:40Dedra: We still need to get our coffee just to kind of really get us going.
- 17:43Dedra: And I'm really glad that we walked across the street and checked that place out because Oh man, we're gonna have to have it again.
- 17:50Adam: So we just got a couple of Americanos.
- 17:52Adam: Um, I don't think they had drip coffee, or if they did, I think we just ordered the Americano anyway.
- 17:56Adam: No, they were out, so they just said maricano.
- 17:59Adam: I was like, Yeah, that's fine, it's almost the same thing.
- 18:01Adam: And we were passing through this line, and they had pizza slices right there that they could warm up right in the oven.
- 18:09Adam: They were like slicing of meats to make their own sandwich.
- 18:13Adam: They had their own, look like handmade uh facasha bread that they made sandwiches on.
- 18:17Adam: They had sub rolls, and I'm like, this is a coffee place, right?
- 18:22Dedra: I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 18:24Adam: I don't, I I mean, I'm glad we went to Mona Lisa Mona Lisa, yes.
- 18:27Adam: That was a great experience.
- 18:28Adam: I loved it, and I wouldn't have I wouldn't have taken that back, but I wanted to eat again.
- 18:33Dedra: Right, yes.
- 18:34Dedra: Because like as we're in line, there was it was just like a glass window wall that separated us from everything being so fresh and being assembled right there.
- 18:46Dedra: And as we were waiting in line, it was just like, oh my god.
- 18:50Adam: Like how did we miss this?
- 18:54Dedra: Well, I mean, we already had a place picked out where we're gonna eat.
- 18:57Adam: Yeah.
- 18:58Dedra: And I'm really glad we stumbled across that place.
- 19:01Dedra: So we're gonna have to check it out again.
- 19:04Adam: Yeah.
- 19:05Adam: Anybody who's that's been there, uh Prendy of I, let us know.
- 19:09Adam: I'd love to hear your thoughts about it because I'm gonna do it.
- 19:13Dedra: If you had pizza, if you had sandwiches, whatever you ate from there, please let us know because I'd be really curious uh, you know, just to hear your guys' opinion on whatever it is that you had from there.
- 19:24Adam: Yeah, oh my gosh, I can't wait to do that again.
- 19:27Adam: But we had to leave.
- 19:29Adam: Um, so we had it out of San Diego and headed to Escondido and Stone.
- 19:35Adam: You know, I don't think that facility is gonna be there much longer.
- 19:38Adam: We've been there before, but we wanted to make another stop just because we don't know how long it's gonna be owned by Stone still.
- 19:44Adam: Stone got bought out uh a couple times, right?
- 19:48Adam: They they sold to Saporo, Sapporo that owned them, uh, and then I think they just sold again to Duval Firestone Walker, and that facility.
- 19:58Adam: I mean, it is a pretty large money pit, so I have a feeling it's gonna go to somebody else, but so we wanted to hit that one more time and went inside.
- 20:07Adam: They actually did a tour that day, and I was so tempted to do it, but I'm like, we've already done it before, we're just here real quick to have a couple beers.
- 20:14Adam: We ended up getting some garlic french fries that were really good, nice and crispy, fresh French fries.
- 20:20Adam: Yes, we just ate 30 miles ago, but hey, whatever.
- 20:25Dedra: Nobody's counting.
- 20:28Adam: Um, and I started with uh Fear Movie Lions, which was a double IPA, 8.5%, and never even never had it before, so you know, I had to try it.
- 20:41Dedra: So I was I was itching.
- 20:42Dedra: So I ordered a hazy.
- 20:44Dedra: I was like looking at the bartender, you got any more of that hazy back there?
- 20:50Adam: The delicious hazy you got first.
- 20:52Dedra: Yes, I got the delicious hazy.
- 20:53Dedra: Yeah.
- 20:54Dedra: Um, and we sat right at the bar.
- 20:55Dedra: It was a 7.2%, and it was just amazing to watch like the bartenders behind the bar just pouring beers left and right.
- 21:03Dedra: Like they were in like it's it wasn't a huge area, but they were in such tune with one another that they were just like dancing around one another, pouring pint after pint after pint.
- 21:15Dedra: So it was just almost amazing.
- 21:17Dedra: Kind of like when you go to Dark Sky and you go and sit right there and watch them make pizza at what is that, pizza letter?
- 21:22Dedra: Pizza letter, yeah.
- 21:23Dedra: And it's just so fascinating to watch them, you know, go through the process of getting the dough, throwing the not throwing the sauce on, but putting the sauce on, throwing the cheese, and then they're yeah, their toppings, they turn around, they throw it in the pizza oven, in and out.
- 21:38Dedra: So you order a pizza and it's like, gosh, I think we sat there and timed it one time and it was like 35 seconds, 40 seconds or something.
- 21:45Dedra: It was something ridiculous.
- 21:46Dedra: And it we were just like intrigued.
- 21:49Dedra: So again, over at Stone, just watching everybody pouring beers and things like that, it was just like very entertaining.
- 21:55Adam: And it's a decent sized bar, it's like a U shape, but they're pouring beers for the rest of the The uh the dining room also.
- 22:01Dedra: So inside, outside?
- 22:04Adam: Well, we were uh they have that other bar outside.
- 22:06Adam: Are they pouring inside for those too?
- 22:08Adam: Probably.
- 22:08Adam: Probably.
- 22:09Adam: So we had uh beer each inside, and then we went uh closed out there, and we're like, you know what, let's go outside.
- 22:17Adam: It's a beautiful day out there.
- 22:18Adam: And I the bar.
- 22:20Adam: Oh my god, that's so neat.
- 22:22Adam: The bar outside is like that big giant stone slab that's um we kind of sit on that end that was kind of like shaved off a little bit.
- 22:29Adam: It just made it look so much more real.
- 22:30Adam: It was like up to our chin, kind of too.
- 22:33Dedra: But your chin over my head.
- 22:36Dedra: So anytime I put my beer up, it was just like, I hope it doesn't come sliding back down.
- 22:42Adam: On the top shelf.
- 22:44Dedra: Yeah.
- 22:45Adam: But we got some pretzel bites also while we were out there, and that was really good.
- 22:49Adam: Came with uh mustard and beer cheese.
- 22:51Adam: I feel like that's just standard beer cheese and mustard.
- 22:54Adam: You gotta have with that, and just something to nibble on just as we're drinking our beer.
- 23:00Dedra: I'm really glad that we did make that move because everybody inside was so busy that we really didn't have time to talk with like you know the bartenders.
- 23:08Dedra: And then we I don't think there was really anyone sitting near us anyhow, or there was anybody else sitting at the bar indoor because it was just not around us for some reason, didn't we smell it?
- 23:18Dedra: I was just about to say, but you know, it may have been uh but I'm glad we, you know, we took it outdo, because we was indo.
- 23:31Dedra: Yeah.
- 23:31Dedra: And that was where it was at.
- 23:33Dedra: There was actually there was another couple that was indoors that was at the bar, but at towards the opposite end of where we were.
- 23:40Dedra: So when we went outside, they had actually located out there before we did.
- 23:45Dedra: So when we got out there, we're like, hey! And then the bartender was uh He wasn't so busy, he was able to actually talk with us and had a you know a good conversation.
- 23:56Dedra: So it was nice.
- 23:57Dedra: And we like when we're able to talk with our bartenders, and we understand, you know, not all of them can, but if and when they can, and we just really love that interaction because they know the place better than we do, and they can share information, recommend different types of beers, and it's just really cool to get to know your bartenders.
- 24:13Adam: Yeah, and he was uh lived in Temecula, which was where we were headed.
- 24:16Adam: So it was hey, have you been to this place?
- 24:19Adam: Have you been to this place?
- 24:20Adam: So we were like all talking about the different food places everywhere that we went.
- 24:25Adam: So that was really cool.
- 24:27Adam: And I think I got uh an enjoy by series, and I had the Fruity Fresh IPA, which was uh just another double IPA at nine percent.
- 24:36Adam: So I mean, I I kind of make this a theme, don't I?
- 24:39Adam: If it's not at least nine percent, I'm usually like, eh.
- 24:42Adam: Yeah.
- 24:43Adam: I'm just kidding.
- 24:46Dedra: And I got I got another hazy.
- 24:49Adam: Yeah, you can just got their standard one, right?
- 24:51Dedra: Yeah, it was I mean, it's a classic, and sometimes you gotta go back and revisit, you know, a classic stone hazy.
- 24:56Dedra: And that one was, you know, a little bit lower of 6.7%.
- 24:59Dedra: And I really enjoyed it, and I just really enjoyed, you know, the company and the ambiance of sitting outside.
- 25:05Dedra: The sun was going down, so that was nice.
- 25:07Dedra: You know, it was getting cooler outside, and uh just being able to talk with the people that were on the opposite or right near us down at the bar and just have a conversation, just like a little triangle conversation.
- 25:18Adam: Yeah, and the grounds are just beautiful there, like it's has all the gar the gardens right there, it's everything's so green, and it does not feel like you're anywhere but you know, in the middle of nowhere, kind of just drinking beers which is kind of hard to believe because the facility is freaking amazing.
- 25:36Adam: I mean, it's huge.
- 25:37Adam: All the tanks, when you take we've taken that tour and get to go uh back behind everything, and that's it's a large place, and where they do all their canning too, it's like during the tour, they take you outside, they walk you across the street.
- 25:50Adam: And I just thought that was almost funny when you you you're all as a tour group and stuff, and the guy hits the button for the crosswalk, it's all hang on a minute.
- 25:59Adam: But um, so I mean it's a it is like two large facilities, a canning facility in one and bottling, I'm sure, and then uh the the full brewery in the other, and that's really cool.
- 26:12Dedra: Well, and then talking with our bartender outside, actually, you had expressed you know your love of the the dirt gears, the stouts.
- 26:19Dedra: And it was really cool because remember, he poured, he gave you a little pour, right?
- 26:23Dedra: Yes, yeah.
- 26:24Adam: Yeah, it was uh the only stout that they have, so it wasn't a barrel aged or anything, but yes, it was um their Irish stout, I believe, that they had.
- 26:30Dedra: But I thought that was really neat.
- 26:31Dedra: Like he wasn't, you know, like, hey, you want to pint up?
- 26:34Dedra: He just like straight up just poured it and was just like, here, try this.
- 26:37Dedra: Yeah.
- 26:38Dedra: And I thought that was really nice.
- 26:40Adam: So he gave one to uh you, me, and those other two people that were sitting next to us that we were talking to.
- 26:44Adam: So it's like, here you guys go.
- 26:46Dedra: Yeah, that was that was awesome.
- 26:47Dedra: I mean, like we don't try to talk to our bartenders to be like, hey, just trying to get score a free drink.
- 26:52Dedra: No, it's just like you build that, you know, rapport and you just share your love of beer with one another.
- 26:58Dedra: And he was he was really nice and he was just like, Hey, here, yeah, you know, try this out.
- 27:02Dedra: I've at it.
- 27:03Dedra: It was then of course, you know, we always whenever our bartenders take care of us, we always try to really take care of them as well and you know, tip them, tip them well.
- 27:11Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
- 27:12Dedra: He was super cool, but I obviously couldn't drink too much because we had another stuff to make.
- 27:19Adam: So we're going a lot further.
- 27:21Adam: And actually, for those of you that are watching, if you just saw me, I'm I have a a sneaky second beer here because I knew that one wasn't gonna last sharing a 12-ounce can.
- 27:29Adam: So I'm like, well, you know, I'm gonna drink another one just as uh to break it up a little.
- 27:32Adam: That was you do too.
- 27:34Dedra: That was a really big sip of stout.
- 27:36Dedra: I just I was looking at your beer, so I was thinking I was drinking my Miller Light.
- 27:44Dedra: It's my next tattoo, I think.
- 27:47Dedra: Yeah.
- 27:47Dedra: Right here across the knuckles.
- 27:48Dedra: Miller light.
- 27:50Dedra: I'm just kidding.
- 27:51Adam: I got the hop knot IPA, just you know, that's just my sipper, just my uh, hey, if I get thirsty and I need to grab something real quick, that's what I'm gonna go to the fridge for.
- 28:00Dedra: But it's like you get to talking, I get to talking, and then I forget that I'm drinking a stout because I'm looking at your beer thinking about my beer, and I just took like two good swings of that stout, and I was like, woo.
- 28:11Adam: Yeah, and you don't do that with barrel-aged oven.
- 28:13Adam: No.
- 28:14Adam: What is this one sitting at?
- 28:16Adam: I actually didn't even read that.
- 28:17Adam: It's uh, oh man.
- 28:19Adam: Oh, this is out of Connecticut, North Haven, Connecticut.
- 28:21Adam: It's a 13.4%.
- 28:24Dedra: That's why my stout rate now feels a little hot.
- 28:27Dedra: Yeah, a little heavy.
- 28:29Dedra: I'm finding that, you know, that's I need to be careful because I find I just get lost in our conversations and that all of a sudden I'm just like glug glug, and I'm like, ooh, let's put that back down.
- 28:41Adam: Oh, that's why I love you.
- 28:43Adam: Oh man.
- 28:45Adam: So we uh headed back up and there we after that beer festival, there was a bear age stout that I got a taster of while we were out there from Solaris.
- 28:54Adam: And Solaris is in Murietta, which is right next to Temecula.
- 28:58Adam: So I was like, well, it's kind of on our way.
- 29:01Adam: I'm like, we might as well just make a stop there.
- 29:03Adam: They had bottles for sale.
- 29:05Adam: So we ended up going there.
- 29:07Adam: We didn't spend a lot of time.
- 29:08Adam: They had like an event going on, so they had like two food trucks outside, a band playing, and all the band members were wearing masks, ton of people.
- 29:17Adam: Looks like a lot of like their mug members, probably, like um inside, outside.
- 29:23Adam: So we've like we're crammed into the little bit of the corner of the bar.
- 29:27Adam: I couldn't even tell you what we had because it was just like so crowded, and we just had the one beer.
- 29:32Adam: I got the one to go and we took off.
- 29:34Dedra: Well, I think they were having some sort of like back to school event, or like there was there was definitely a raffle involved because one of the ladies when I first walked in approached me.
- 29:43Dedra: She was like, Are you here for the beer?
- 29:45Dedra: Yes.
- 29:46Dedra: She was like, No, the raffle for something elementary, and that's all I could think was, is there gonna be beer?
- 29:54Dedra: Like beers, beers in that basket in this raffle, like gift cards for Solaris?
- 30:00Adam: Yeah, but a brewery?
- 30:02Adam: Hang on a minute.
- 30:03Dedra: Right.
- 30:03Dedra: I was like, that's the way to do it.
- 30:05Dedra: If you're gonna like fundraise, get money, go to a brewery, go find a brewery that you know is teacher friendly, that is, you know, a lot of people are gonna like go in there.
- 30:15Dedra: Go, you're gonna raise some money.
- 30:18Adam: Make sure to invite us.
- 30:20Dedra: Right, right.
- 30:21Adam: Yeah, so we went there and there was the stout.
- 30:24Adam: It was a collaboration.
- 30:25Adam: Actually, I have the bottle right here.
- 30:28Adam: It's called We Were Never the Same.
- 30:31Adam: It's a rye wine and stout blend 2026, and it is in collaboration with Horace.
- 30:37Adam: And for those of you that know Horace, it's uh amazing, amazing brewery.
- 30:42Adam: They do they're really good at making some stouts.
- 30:45Adam: And so I tasted that at the event, the uh salty toast beer festival.
- 30:50Adam: So I had to get another bottle.
- 30:52Adam: So we drove all the way up to Mirietta to get it, you know.
- 30:55Adam: I guess it was on the way.
- 30:57Adam: But we made that stop specifically to have that.
- 31:01Adam: So um, all in all, it was uh pretty good day.
- 31:04Adam: I think by the time we got there and left, it was pretty much dinner time at that point.
- 31:09Adam: So we were just meeting back up and uh doing regular life things after that.
- 31:15Dedra: So when we went to a Mexican restaurant place.
- 31:19Adam: Oh yeah.
- 31:20Adam: It's called Beer Tacos and Beer.
- 31:23Dedra: Great name.
- 31:24Dedra: Sold right away.
- 31:26Adam: That was in the uh Temecula Promenade section, like their mall area.
- 31:32Dedra: And it was our son's birthday.
- 31:33Dedra: So we let the waitress know, and it was cute because like they had signs and lights, and it had a very club-esque feel to it.
- 31:44Adam: Yes, called tacos and beer.
- 31:46Adam: But yeah, we went to that restaurant for dinner and we shared that mocahete bowl, and that was really good.
- 31:53Adam: That was uh pretty solid.
- 31:55Dedra: Yeah, I'm starting to think that's really becoming my favorite because you really it's you get a plethora of food.
- 32:04Adam: The name of this episode is gonna be plethora.
- 32:08Dedra: San Diego has a plethora.
- 32:13Adam: And the mocha at the bowl had uh shrimp shrimps, it had carne sala, it had chicken, it had the uh Nepal, it had other stuff, sauce in the middle of it.
- 32:27Adam: God, what else did it have?
- 32:29Adam: I don't know.
- 32:29Dedra: Uh chicharron.
- 32:30Dedra: Yeah, I don't think it had rice, and I don't remember.
- 32:34Dedra: Yeah, so I am more than positive it didn't have it inside of it.
- 32:40Dedra: Yeah, which is great.
- 32:41Dedra: And we actually had sauce with this one.
- 32:43Dedra: That one was good.
- 32:43Dedra: That one was really good.
- 32:45Adam: A little pearl onions, jalapeno inside there.
- 32:48Adam: Oh, it was so good.
- 32:49Dedra: That's key.
- 32:50Dedra: I don't know what it is about that jalapeno that is just like, oh, that is so good.
- 32:54Dedra: Like grilled or like even at home.
- 32:57Dedra: Instead of um just like cooking it on the pan, I've started to kind of give it like a flash fry.
- 33:03Dedra: So that way if you put like any seasoning on it, it sticks to the oil and it coats the whole thing.
- 33:10Adam: So good.
- 33:10Adam: So after a whole day of getting food and beer, we finished it by getting more food and beer.
- 33:16Dedra: Right.
- 33:17Dedra: My heart, I think my heart hurts from that weekend.
- 33:22Dedra: Yeah.
- 33:24Adam: Oh, that was so good.
- 33:26Adam: And I think there's another place like right around the corner of it called the hamburgers and beer.
- 33:30Adam: So they must own both of those places.
- 33:32Adam: I'm I'm sure.
- 33:33Adam: It's not like somebody saw tacos and beer come up and be like, I'm gonna make a burgers and beer.
- 33:38Dedra: I mean, if that if the tacos and beer place is doing well, then heck yeah.
- 33:43Dedra: That that would be smart.
- 33:45Dedra: But you're right, I think they probably do own do own that place as well, because then what's smarter than being your own competition?
- 33:53Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:54Adam: That was so good though.
- 33:55Adam: That that I mean, that food was good.
- 33:57Adam: Our daughter got the um birya tacos, and those were really good too.
- 34:02Dedra: Those were good.
- 34:03Dedra: Oh, okay.
- 34:04Dedra: Food.
- 34:05Adam: Yeah.
- 34:05Adam: Oh, and it came with little fried pieces of cheese inside the mocahette, also.
- 34:10Dedra: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 34:11Dedra: That's right.
- 34:11Dedra: That actually was a nice little surprise.
- 34:14Adam: Yeah.
- 34:14Adam: And they had little tortillas, builders' grown tacos there.
- 34:18Dedra: But I feel like we're new to that, so we don't really know like everything that should go in it, like traditionally, other than the carne asada, the shrimps, the cactus, chicken, and uh oh, the um the chicharron.
- 34:43Adam: Yeah, was it pork belly or was it like uh like the the actual meat part or was it no, it was actually the the the chicharron with the the meat and the puffed up skin, huh?
- 34:51Adam: Yeah, that was good.
- 34:52Dedra: That's that's the weight of my heart.
- 34:54Adam: Yeah.
- 34:54Adam: But amazing day, and so thank you to all of those places.
- 35:00Adam: That was uh very fun trip.
- 35:02Adam: So Ballast Point, Mona Lisa, Stone, Friendiavi, Stone.
- 35:08Adam: Oh my god, the list goes on Silarious, tacos and beer.
- 35:13Adam: If you guys can keep up with all that, um, I'm impressed.
- 35:17Adam: I barely did.
- 35:19Dedra: And I think that actually wraps up our San Diego trip as far as places go.
- 35:24Adam: Yes.
- 35:24Adam: That that specifically.
- 35:26Adam: That was a lot of fun places.
- 35:28Adam: Had a great time while we were there.
- 35:29Dedra: And met a lot of great people.
- 35:31Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 35:32Adam: And I mean, beer festival, come on.
- 35:34Dedra: Great experiences.
- 35:36Adam: But cheers everybody.
- 35:38Dedra: Wraps up our San Diego trip and we wrap up the show, too.
- 35:41Adam: Yeah, I was I was at the bottom there, so that's how it tells me.
- 35:44Adam: I'm like, that means we talked enough.
- 35:46Dedra: Yeah, this is looking like some old motor oil.
- 35:49Dedra: Could he use an oil change?
- 35:51Adam: Oh, it does not change, does not change like that.
- 35:53Adam: Ah man, I messed up.
- 35:54Adam: Does not taste like that at all.
- 35:56Adam: That is so good.
- 35:57Dedra: I'm telling you, it tastes like those fudge bars.
- 36:00Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 36:00Adam: And it's kind of warmed up a little, so it's really opened up those flavors at the same time, but that was really good.
- 36:05Dedra: And by the way, if you guys are looking for this can or want to try it, the blended with lumber number seven.
- 36:10Dedra: Um, I actually got this can out at Manny's place out in surprise.
- 36:15Dedra: Yes.
- 36:16Dedra: So if you want to find this and have it, go go check out Manny's Place.
- 36:20Dedra: Yeah.
- 36:21Dedra: Get it from there.
- 36:22Adam: Or go to North Haven, Connecticut.
- 36:23Adam: You might be able to find it at that brewery also.
- 36:26Adam: Timber Ales.
- 36:28Adam: But that was good.
- 36:31Adam: But thanks you all for checking out the show.
- 36:34Adam: We appreciate it.
