- 1:17Speaker 1: Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go. It's a
- 1:21Speaker 1: story you need to hear to believe, and then grab
- 1:24Speaker 1: your popcorn because there is more.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I've got a bunch of stuff.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Nothing that was, oh my gosh, this is the biggest
- 1:36Speaker 1: thing you're ever going to hear.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Ever, just some of the the generalized stuff I've got.
- 1:45Speaker 1: The the uh conversation here about Speaker Johnson talking about
- 1:51Speaker 1: the shutdown and whether or not Schumer is going to
- 1:56Speaker 1: do the right thing and open the government back up.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Why should Democrats believe that this is going to come
- 2:01Speaker 3: back around that if they solve the government shutdown. Now
- 2:04Speaker 3: there's a trust between Republicans and Democrats. There's not really
- 2:07Speaker 3: an open line of communication here at all.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Well, there is an open line of communication. The President
- 2:12Speaker 4: himself really been happening. The President himself had the four
- 2:14Speaker 4: leaders in the Oval office months in because this was
- 2:19Speaker 4: the first time that the President needed to engage with
- 2:21Speaker 4: the leaders on a funding matter. And we've been keeping
- 2:24Speaker 4: the lights on and keeping everything going pretty well until then.
- 2:27Speaker 4: But Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffers in that meeting showed
- 2:30Speaker 4: no willingness to come along and do the right thing.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Before we go any further, he's doing this interview with MSNBC.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You want to talk about not being afraid going on MSNBC,
- 2:44Speaker 1: Speaker of the House, you know what they're going to
- 2:46Speaker 1: be about. Well, President Trump hasn't met with them in
- 2:49Speaker 1: nine months. Why would President Trump have to meet with
- 2:54Speaker 1: Chuck Schumer Nakim Jeffries. They never had a phone call,
- 2:58Speaker 1: There was never a note passed.
- 3:00Speaker 2: There had to be some meeting to satisfy.
- 3:02Speaker 1: What a weird statement, indeed, but what would you expect.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Trump hasn't done enough. That's their mantra. The response from
- 3:14Speaker 1: Speaker Johnson is Trump didn't need them. Now we're having
- 3:18Speaker 1: this conversation, where.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Are they to keep the government open? The President and
- 3:23Speaker 4: everyone is opened to negotiating all these issues. That's our process.
- 3:26Speaker 4: We work in a deliberate a public body. You got
- 3:29Speaker 4: four hundred and thirty five members in the House and
- 3:31Speaker 4: one hundred in the Senate. There's a lot of opinions
- 3:33Speaker 4: that you cover every day. Right, You've got to get
- 3:35Speaker 4: those people working together to build consensus on these big issues.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Because we have small margins of majorities in both chambers
- 3:42Speaker 4: and in the Senate, of course.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You need sixty votes.
- 3:44Speaker 4: There's only fifty three Republicans in the majority party. It
- 3:46Speaker 4: requires everybody to work together. I'm heartened that we were
- 3:50Speaker 4: doing that. On appropriations, we had Republicans and Democrats and
- 3:54Speaker 4: Senate and the House working together to move those bills
- 3:56Speaker 4: through the Senate. They passed three bills off the floors,
- 3:59Speaker 4: first time in years they've done that. This is encouraging.
- 4:01Speaker 4: We're getting Congress to work the way it's supposed to.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Again, however, just however, however.
- 4:05Speaker 5: So.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Johnson is trying to say, you know, everything works the
- 4:12Speaker 1: way it's supposed to, it's humor.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Making this not work. All the blame is going to humor.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And he has not been able to deflect from it
- 4:22Speaker 1: in this shutdown at all. The Senate Democrats, for their part,
- 4:32Speaker 1: want to remind you that everything being done to keep
- 4:35Speaker 1: the country safe from illegal immigrants and those engaging in
- 4:38Speaker 1: acts of violence against ICE agents, well those are just
- 4:41Speaker 1: gestapo tapping tactics.
- 4:43Speaker 3: What are local authorities telling you about what they think
- 4:46Speaker 3: happened here.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Well, they lie, right, the Trump administration lies. We have
- 4:50Speaker 5: a president who's a known liar, and they have been
- 4:55Speaker 5: They've been lying about the situation all along. And in fact,
- 4:59Speaker 5: they even shot here grenades here grass grenades, I think,
- 5:01Speaker 5: at a reporter who was simply driving by with her
- 5:04Speaker 5: window open. And so we're urging people. We're urging our
- 5:08Speaker 5: protesters remain calm, peaceful protests, exercise for First Amendment rights.
- 5:13Speaker 5: But video tape everything. Everybody has a phone tape everything,
- 5:17Speaker 5: so we actually have real evidence of what is happening.
- 5:20Speaker 2: They're not protesters when they're engaged in acts of violence.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Now, I'll give Senator Duckworth all of her due losing
- 5:28Speaker 1: her legs in defense of the country, but when she's
- 5:32Speaker 1: wrong politically, I'll equally say so. And she is very
- 5:36Speaker 1: very wrong politically. And this concept of gestapo.
- 5:41Speaker 5: We know that Trump administration lies consistently. And what I
- 5:45Speaker 5: am hearing is that for the large part, people are
- 5:47Speaker 5: being very quiet, are being very respectful, but Ice is
- 5:51Speaker 5: being very aggressive. Remember that they are zip tying children.
- 5:54Speaker 5: They are raiding apartment blocks in the middle of the night,
- 5:57Speaker 5: separating children from their families. Pulling people out onto the
- 6:00Speaker 5: streets naked. They are using gestapo tactics in Chicago, and
- 6:05Speaker 5: this is what Trump wants to do, right, he wants
- 6:07Speaker 5: to intimidate the people of Chicago. That's not going to happen.
- 6:10Speaker 5: And we're going to document everything and make sure just
- 6:13Speaker 5: as the judge in Portland said that these requirements, these
- 6:19Speaker 5: orders from the Trump administration are not actually tied to reality.
- 6:27Speaker 1: The full throated defense of illegal immigrants from a US senator,
- 6:34Speaker 1: that's your argument Gestapo tactics, Okay, Not those who are
- 6:43Speaker 1: attacking ice agents, Not those who are attacking college students
- 6:47Speaker 1: who happen to be Jewish, right.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Because oh, you can't say attacking the Jews, all right?
- 6:53Speaker 2: Not none of that. Just this.
- 6:56Speaker 1: No conversation about the people who broke the law to
- 6:59Speaker 1: begin with.
- 7:03Speaker 2: There's a real divide in the nation on this subject.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And I just need to make sure that Senator Duckworth
- 7:09Speaker 1: continues to lose elections and not be able to put
- 7:12Speaker 1: us in a position of being harmed anymore.
