- 0:15Speaker 1: I think I took a picture of it on movie
- 0:17Speaker 1: is what I was telling myself and this would be
- 0:19Speaker 1: it so this is Isabelle it's a very striking cover
- 0:26Speaker 1: it really is but I thought it would be fitting
- 0:30Speaker 1: for this week's roundup because according to IMDb A young
- 0:36Speaker 1: couple's dream of starting a family shatters as they descend
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the depths of paranoia and must struggle to survive
- 0:43Speaker 1: an evil presence that wants nothing more than their very
- 0:46Speaker 1: own lives. It's basically the girl next door is dead
- 0:51Speaker 1: and is still hanging out there and is creeping them
- 0:54Speaker 1: out looking through the window at home. I don't know.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I watched the trailer earlier.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That doesn't sound terrible, though.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I mean, she's in the next door house, not your house.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah. The house next door to a haunted house.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yeah. It doesn't seem that bad.
- 1:11Speaker 1: So that's what you want us to watch. People were
- 1:15Speaker 1: telling you, you have much better ideas of movies we
- 1:18Speaker 1: should be watching than Isabella, Rossellini, or whoever that movie was.
- 1:23Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Otherwise, we have to watch things like that, which they
- 1:27Speaker 1: seem to think isn't terrible, but I feel like after
- 1:30Speaker 1: we watch it, they're going to be like, this movie
- 1:31Speaker 1: was terrible. You just wait and see. Or better yet,
- 1:36Speaker 1: go to MovieMetal.com, join the horror club, and give us
- 1:39Speaker 1: a better option than whatever this movie is. Please. Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And then we'll watch something entertaining and say entertaining things
- 1:47Speaker 1: like this. There's been a massacre in the pumpkin patch.
- 1:53Speaker 4: You know, Linus never says that the Great Pumpkin was benevolent.
- 1:57Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And the memes that I keep seeing online make it
- 2:01Speaker 1: seem like not so much.
- 2:03Speaker 4: If things would have gone differently in that special, it
- 2:06Speaker 4: could have been Pumpkinhead 20 years ahead of its time.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Now I want to see that.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You were also wondering about that.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You were like, what's up with the pumpkins? How much
- 2:19Speaker 1: older is Topher Grayston Phillips? These were your agenda coming
- 2:21Speaker 1: into this episode.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm in a weird point in my life where I see.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Don't think I've hated a character as much as I
- 2:29Speaker 3: hated George in like a.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Really long time.
- 2:32Speaker 4: I wanted him to die so soon in this movie.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Me too.
- 2:37Speaker 4: And every time they feature just him, I'm like, is
- 2:42Speaker 4: this it?
- 2:42Speaker 2: I know. Is it a thought time?
- 2:46Speaker 3: But the way it's directed, it's really hard to tell
- 2:49Speaker 3: what's real and what's hallucinating. There were many times in
- 2:53Speaker 3: the movie where I was like, whoa. It's really well made.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's very good.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Blowing your mind.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Highly recommend if you want a mind explosion.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It was great.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I liked it a lot.
- 3:05Speaker 2: He shows up and he's like, hey, you believe in ghosts?
- 3:08Speaker 2: I believe in ghosts. Guess what? You got one in
- 3:10Speaker 2: this house, but don't worry about it. It's cool.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Let's have a seance anyway just so we can You know,
- 3:16Speaker 4: you can get to know her.
- 3:17Speaker 2: That's fine. I'm fine with all that. They have the seance.
- 3:21Speaker 2: She shows up, which was really spooky with the sheet
- 3:24Speaker 2: and everything.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that moment's genuine. Like, it works.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And then....
- 3:30Speaker 1: If anything, this is how I get suckered into so
- 3:32Speaker 1: many horror movies. Being the horror geek that I am,
- 3:35Speaker 1: it's what does it add, take away from, screw up,
- 3:42Speaker 1: weave into the lore of whatever you're dealing with, which
- 3:46Speaker 1: in this one is vampires. So with any of these,
- 3:49Speaker 1: they kind of have to make up their own set
- 3:51Speaker 1: of rules. What universe do we live in? What applies
- 3:54Speaker 1: from lore that we know of versus what's in this movie?
- 3:58Speaker 1: And how do they do it? Well, this one is like,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and I saw it even described as like.
- 4:04Speaker 2: She was part of this evil cult that lives out
- 4:07Speaker 2: in the woods.
- 4:09Speaker 3: It was like a deus ex Justine coma thing that
- 4:13Speaker 3: like she just sees this vision of them and then
- 4:15Speaker 3: wakes up. And also, how is that going to work
- 4:17Speaker 3: in court, Justine? You'll be like, I saw her as
- 4:20Speaker 3: a ghost.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Coma information dump. That totally works in court. Or, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: just spitballing here, they have four bedrooms, which they have said,
- 4:31Speaker 2: they made a point to say, well, there's two of them.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Just move. Move across the hallway.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Pick the bedroom over top of the garage, so maybe
- 4:40Speaker 1: go with one of the other ones.
- 4:42Speaker 2: They have four bedrooms, and she keeps making them sleep
- 4:44Speaker 2: on the couch downstairs.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well, it is huge, too, because every once in a while,
- 4:47Speaker 1: they pull back and do that shot from outside, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm like, that's like a good two, maybe two and
- 4:52Speaker 1: a half houses crammed together.
- 4:53Speaker 2: That thing is massive.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So I'm like you must have got a deal Like
- 4:58Speaker 1: somebody got murdered Oh that should have tipped you off
- 5:01Speaker 1: lady He barely has a job At a school up
- 5:04Speaker 1: here How did you afford that house You should have
- 5:07Speaker 1: known something was up with the real estate Vampire real
- 5:12Speaker 1: estate agent That's what it was Oh wait I'm mixing my.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Movies So There's our other movie.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So I can never tell Is that a movie is
- 5:22Speaker 1: that a series Could you tell me Is it in English?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Are there subtitles? I might be drunk already. Let me
- 5:28Speaker 2: know if I need to read.
- 5:29Speaker 1: They don't tell you any of that stuff.
- 5:31Speaker 2: From what I could tell as I watched it, it
- 5:33Speaker 2: was in English.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I mean, it helps, I guess, that they're on cable television.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So they have a lower budget. So they only have
- 5:41Speaker 1: so much they can do with this thing that they're creating.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And the fact that it's done relatively badly sort of
- 5:47Speaker 1: makes it way more entertaining. Because there's times that I'm like,
- 5:51Speaker 1: that looks so terrible. And that makes it so much funnier.
- 5:55Speaker 4: We've talked many times about how in the right hands,
- 6:00Speaker 4: shitty special.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Effects can be amazing.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I feel like if they had a real million dollar
- 6:08Speaker 1: movie budget, you'd be like, well, this is dumb.
- 6:11Speaker 2: But because it looks dumb, you're just like, no, this
- 6:13Speaker 2: is genius.
- 6:14Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 6:15Speaker 3: It's fun. It can be both, but you're only referring
- 6:20Speaker 3: to it as one. But it was just very frustrating.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And again, then it came to nothing in the end.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So what was the point of the whole thing anyway?
- 6:27Speaker 1: And we'll get back to that. Well, most of what
- 6:30Speaker 1: goes on in this movie came to nothing in the end.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And I was like.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So, and that's an interesting little setup there. But within
- 6:38Speaker 1: the industry, the big dog, as it were, that is
- 6:41Speaker 1: the badass vampire killer that everybody wants to be.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Is played by.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That's all we really need to know about this movie
- 6:50Speaker 1: is this guy sucks.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And maybe there's ghosts.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:54Speaker 2: But mostly, this guy sucks.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Well, going all the way back to the beginning, I
- 7:03Speaker 2: knew we were in trouble. When we see her.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Which, when you pick up on that.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It does, yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but when you pick up on that that.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Early in, that's not a good sign as far as
- 7:15Speaker 4: story structure goes.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But it doesn't layer it well. Exactly.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Like, if you knew there were layers, that's the thing.
- 7:21Speaker 1: There's so many of those weird little religious tie-in things
- 7:24Speaker 1: that are going on at the last 15 minutes of
- 7:27Speaker 1: the movie or so that you're like, oh, well, it's
- 7:30Speaker 1: nice that you... I mean, I didn't notice it watching it,
- 7:33Speaker 1: so it does me absolutely no good as a viewer
- 7:36Speaker 1: of the movie. So, points to you for doing your research,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but you might have wanted to, I don't know, put
- 7:41Speaker 1: it in the movie we were watching so that we'd
- 7:43Speaker 1: get something out of it instead of reading about it
- 7:45Speaker 1: after the fact and going, oh, they did that.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I'll be darned.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That's nice. Didn't help me during the movie, so why
- 7:53Speaker 1: do I care?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Well, the devil does live in Ohio.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Well, obviously.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That's why they have all those billboards.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Okay, everyone. Ohio, if you're out there, let us know.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Have you seen the devil? Is he lurking around outside your...
- 8:05Speaker 1: Do you have a pumpkin patch and is he lurking
- 8:07Speaker 1: in there? Go to MovieMeltdown.com. Join the club. Give us
- 8:12Speaker 1: better movies to watch. That's all I'm saying. It's not
- 8:16Speaker 1: too much to ask, is it? I want to watch
- 8:19Speaker 1: a decent movie.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Just once. Just one week.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Even the ones that we pick aren't that decent.
- 8:27Speaker 2: All the time. Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's what I found out. Some are.
- 8:32Speaker 2: It's not us. It's the dice.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That's true.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's not our fault. But even the ones we put
- 8:37Speaker 1: on the list. I keep thinking, this will be a
- 8:40Speaker 1: good time when we roll on this and it comes
- 8:42Speaker 1: up and then it's... Whatever.
- 8:45Speaker 4: If I'm being honest, I blame Nora and myself more
- 8:49Speaker 4: than anything because.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You're like, hey, you got any movies we want to
- 8:52Speaker 2: put on the list? And we're just like, whatever you
- 8:54Speaker 2: pick is fine.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Well, see, and that's the thing. I get myself into
- 8:58Speaker 1: it because I usually, by nature of this, go in
- 9:02Speaker 1: as blind as possible. So to be like, here's five
- 9:05Speaker 1: things that are new titles.
- 9:06Speaker 2: That showed up on Netflix.
- 9:08Speaker 1: All right, good enough. Like, I don't even know the
- 9:10Speaker 1: plot most of the time. Just like, that's a thing
- 9:12Speaker 1: I saw pop up. And I went, whatever.
- 9:14Speaker 2: This looks scary.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I was like, that says it looks like a horror movie. Sure, whatever.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And then these are the things that. whole fillers that
- 9:21Speaker 1: end up on the list so you see how we
- 9:24Speaker 1: get ourselves in there i'm just trying to remember how
- 9:34Speaker 1: it feels to have a heartbeat
