- 0:00Uh.
- 0:03Jasmine, oolong, green
- 0:06and white. Long ago, these four
- 0:08teas were skilfully brewed at the Blissful Brew.
- 0:12Then everything changed when the shop's
- 0:14popularity threatened its existence.
- 0:17All Mr. Okeron, the shop's owner and tea
- 0:20master, could do was to recruit four teenage
- 0:23orphans to learn his trade and staff his
- 0:25shop. A year has passed since the orphans were
- 0:28hired, and although their skills have progressed, they
- 0:31still have a lot to learn before they can brew anything.
- 0:34But I believe that they have the potential to make the
- 0:37Blissful Brew the greatest tea shop in the
- 0:39world. Last time on
- 0:42Benders and Brews an Avatar legends.
- 0:45Podcast. Uh, you guys came to Chin Village? Uh,
- 0:48there was a massive festival going on that had something to do with
- 0:51a strange serpent, uh, scale. They
- 0:53revealed the scale only to find that it had
- 0:56been stolen. Uh, the key characters that you've met so
- 0:59far mayor Wu.
- 1:01Well, this is my office.
- 1:03His counterpart, Mayor Yu, who is from
- 1:06Quinchao Village. Cato was the
- 1:09patrolling officer that was guarding the
- 1:12facility where the scale had been stored.
- 1:19Uh,
- 1:40the name's Huan.
- 1:41Councilman Huan, that is.
- 1:43My name is NIA.
- 1:45Um, I am m a traveling salesman from
- 1:48the village of Chin SHO.
- 1:50What are you looking at? Where even am
- 1:53I? What am I doing here?
- 1:55Old Man Gunja is known as, uh, our,
- 1:58um, crazy man. Is that a
- 2:00thing?
- 2:01So I learned nothing. And quo
- 2:04you have a pie.
- 2:09Hey, everyone. Due to some big life events going on and
- 2:12adjustments to the schedule, we were unable to record an opening for this
- 2:15episode where normally each player would share an interesting
- 2:17fact about their character. Nevertheless, we've got a great
- 2:20episode coming your way, and plenty more before we're done with
- 2:23season two. We've been looking into some interesting new ideas
- 2:26which might be coming your way as well, so be sure to keep an eye out for those
- 2:29announcements. Now sit back and relax as we jump into
- 2:32episode five.
- 2:37So, anybody else want to take a crack at this
- 2:39interrogation? I guess I'll take a
- 2:42turn. Hey, uh, you and I point
- 2:45over at the guy sobbing in ash.
- 2:48Okay?
- 2:52Uh, do you have a boat?
- 2:55Yeah, I've got a boat.
- 2:56You know how to sail it? Yeah. How many can it fit?
- 2:59It can hold about four people in it, but not if I plan on
- 3:02fishing.
- 3:02Or we're not going to fish.
- 3:03This is starting to sound a bit foreboding.
- 3:06We just need you to take the what is it called? Whale.
- 3:09Whaletail island. Whaletail island.
- 3:10I will never sail again. I will not eat
- 3:13nor sleep until the scale of the great and
- 3:16powerful Shue Shu Wei is found.
- 3:19Do you know any other fishermen that could just take us on their boats?
- 3:21Yeah. Who? Like who?
- 3:24My friend group is made up of successful fishermen with their own
- 3:27boats.
- 3:28You give me a name. Just take me to one right now. He looks over at
- 3:31the guard, and the guard just goes I give him a
- 3:33thumbs up.
- 3:38This is important, guys, okay? I need to
- 3:41go to Whale Tongue Island because we only have, like,
- 3:44three days, right?
- 3:45I will happily provide passage to and from
- 3:47Whaletail Island to anyone that can return the
- 3:50Lost Scale to our village.
- 3:52This is important because I think these stones on it.
- 3:56I have a hunch, and us four
- 3:59detectives, we need to go check this
- 4:02hunch out.
- 4:02But none of us fishermen sailed the night before or the day
- 4:05during the festival out of respect for the Great.
- 4:08Shui Shui, I'm sure. Yeah, but
- 4:11do you think in, uh, guilty person would
- 4:14follow the rules?
- 4:15I suppose not.
- 4:17Exactly. So this is for Shue Shui.
- 4:20I will happily, joyfully, even provide
- 4:23three individuals precisely one two way
- 4:26trip to and from Whaletail Island
- 4:29to any group that finds the scale and returns it.
- 4:31To our no, no, I think it's on the island. I need
- 4:34to go now. And Mayor Wu says,
- 4:37I suppose it's possible. Yeah, I'm confused why he's so
- 4:40hesitant to go there. I feel like it's
- 4:43there and he doesn't want to take us. Uh,
- 4:46you're just gaslighting this entire village.
- 4:50I'm trying to get through an
- 4:52island as fast as I can. Uh,
- 4:55do you even remember why we have to get to Will? The
- 4:58treasure? What treasure? Insurance
- 5:00treasure. Uh, his will. Oh, yeah.
- 5:03That's the whole reason we're here. So I'm going to
- 5:06repair wills from now on.
- 5:08Insurance.
- 5:08Treasure. Insurance treasure. My grandpa
- 5:11died, and he left me some insurance treasure. Clearly,
- 5:14Bill has no care for this stone at all
- 5:17and wants to get to that treasure.
- 5:20He is quickly skipping every step possible
- 5:23to get there. Couldn't tell by you just pointing guys and
- 5:26saying, Arrest him. Hey, again,
- 5:29speedy process. Do justice
- 5:31anyways. Guilty till proven is. Anyways, if
- 5:34you're not going to take me to search for
- 5:37the scale, I.
- 5:38May never sail again.
- 5:40I need a boat pronto to get to that island because I think
- 5:42it's on it.
- 5:43You will have quite the difficult task for yourselves trying to find
- 5:46a non believer in this village with a boat willing
- 5:49to give you a ride anywhere.
- 5:50You know, the more you describe this, the more it sounds like it's hidden there,
- 5:53because why would someone go to search there if
- 5:56all the sailors are refusing the sail anymore?
- 5:59Well, most of the sailors don't typically go to that island
- 6:01anyways, because it's full of pirates.
- 6:03Even more reason a pirate took it.
- 6:06Oh, my word. And how the story has
- 6:09grown even more even more reason to go
- 6:12there now. And
- 6:15I look directly at the mayor and go, I'm
- 6:18making good points here, and you got to agree with
- 6:21me.
- 6:21I suppose it's possible. But why would the Great Shui Shui allow
- 6:24her scale to be stolen away from the very island she gifted? It
- 6:27to.
- 6:27Why would.
- 6:31Because her realm is within the water. Of course.
- 6:33She doesn't come onto the land.
- 6:36Her realm is in the water.
- 6:38What? Can we check for it on a boat? Yeah.
- 6:41Why are we staying landlocked for this search? What if
- 6:44the scale went back into the water? A
- 6:47returned home? Oh, no
- 6:50one thought of that way. Uh, do you have any agnostic
- 6:53woodworking friends who make a
- 6:56boat for us? Because apparently everyone's refusing. Uh, can we
- 6:59just take a boat? Mayor, mayor, no one's going to be on these boats,
- 7:01nor ever sail one again. They're going to be
- 7:04free use for mayor Wu sits there silently
- 7:07for a moment. He thinks and he thinks, wait.
- 7:09If you're right, and the green scale was taken back and returned to
- 7:12the great sea serpent herself in the watery depths, then
- 7:15that must mean that the green
- 7:18Scale was the real no, no.
- 7:22If any scale would be taken back by her
- 7:24Majesty scaliness, it would be ours,
- 7:27because ours is the real one.
- 7:30How do you know yours are then?
- 7:32Well, it wasn't stolen because it was back in the
- 7:34storage facility. We just saw it.
- 7:37It's probably not there anymore.
- 7:40You don't think that's true, right?
- 7:43Well, it's true.
- 7:44Most of them. No, it couldn't be. We
- 7:46swapped guards with our guards. They
- 7:49can be trusted. I assure you, it's gone.
- 7:52Uh, so anyways, let's get on that boat and let's
- 7:55do some searching.
- 7:58Whale. Come on, everyone. Whale
- 8:00tail island, here we come. We're sway.
- 8:03Sway scale. Yeah. Shu schweichway scale.
- 8:07Bill just starts walking out the door.
- 8:12What's going on? I think we're getting on a
- 8:15boat. Bill is walking straight to the
- 8:18dock where the boats are. Uh,
- 8:21everybody's kind of confused. So they're not
- 8:24stopping you? Yeah, and guess what? They
- 8:27can't say I'm stealing because they know exactly what I'm doing with
- 8:30this boat. If I start taking one,
- 8:33uh, I push the map. I don't know if that's how that
- 8:36works. Well, you can steal
- 8:39a car and a police. What are they going to do? Chase me down
- 8:42on the water with all the people who refuse to get
- 8:45on the boat? What were you asking, Dave?
- 8:48Mayor Wu.
- 8:49Uh, yes.
- 8:50I need something from you.
- 8:52Okay.
- 8:53I need you to send somebody to the
- 8:55kitchen and bring
- 8:58back a jar of
- 9:00cinnamon.
- 9:01Okay.
- 9:02And a glass of milk.
- 9:04All right. Councilman Young.
- 9:05Yes, sir.
- 9:06Rung to the kitchen and bring me back a jar of cinnamon and a glass
- 9:09of milk. Straight away, sir. What could you
- 9:12possibly want with just get
- 9:14the ingredients.
- 9:16Yes, sir.
- 9:17And, uh, Councilman Young rushes off, uh,
- 9:20to go get the things. And a couple moments later, he
- 9:23returns with a small jar of powdered
- 9:25cinnamon and a glass of milk. And
- 9:28he hands them to yes, uh, thank you. And
- 9:31I drink the glass of milk. Oh, man, that pie made
- 9:34me thirsty.
- 9:37And then I go over to
- 9:39cato. Cato. Oh,
- 9:42yeah. Come confer with me.
- 9:45Okay. All right, so
- 9:47let's go over your story again. All
- 9:50right. You were
- 9:52guarding
- 9:55the temple or the vault? Guarding the
- 9:58vault. You said you went around
- 10:00about 27 times. Oh,
- 10:03yeah, I did about eight more laps
- 10:06when you guys left before they brought me here.
- 10:09Oh, got you. And you said
- 10:12you heard a coughing at some point?
- 10:15Uh, oh, yeah, I think I
- 10:18did. That's what alerted me. And then
- 10:21I came running over and by that
- 10:23time, whoever it was, was gone. But like I said, I
- 10:26saw someone in the bushes. And you heard a
- 10:30jingling? Oh, yeah, lots of jingling.
- 10:34So you heard a cough and a jingle.
- 10:37All right. Yeah, it's like some kind of, uh what,
- 10:40like a sneezy Santa Claus
- 10:45bag of tricks? Yeah. All
- 10:48right, we got this line up
- 10:50here. Hang, um on.
- 10:53And I go back
- 10:56over to where the old man was
- 10:59and he's sitting there.
- 11:02I grab one of the spoons off the ground.
- 11:04Hey, now that's my fourth favorite spoon.
- 11:07I just need to borrow it. Ah, all right.
- 11:09But you better bring it back and with interest.
- 11:14Okay. Not sure what that means,
- 11:17so I wipe that one off on my
- 11:20shirt, my robe, and
- 11:23I go over to the first person in line.
- 11:26Um, go to
- 11:29Lee. Okay.
- 11:32All right, Mr. Lee.
- 11:36I scoop a big thing of cinnamon.
- 11:39Open wide.
- 11:41Okay, but this is kind of weird.
- 11:43Yeah. I stick the spoon down his throat.
- 11:46I looked at Kato and he coughs. What do
- 11:49you, uh didn't really
- 11:52sound like that. That was a bit too much phlegm in that
- 11:54one. Alright, Mr.
- 11:57Lee, I need you to jump
- 12:00up and down. Give me some jumping jacks.
- 12:03Jumping jacks, okay. Are these for shui
- 12:06shui?
- 12:06Yep, for shue shui. It's doing jumping jacks very vigorously.
- 12:0912345
- 12:15and, uh, he's very quiet as he jumps. You
- 12:18just hear the rustle of his clothing. Um, he
- 12:21kind of sets his fishing pole against the
- 12:23wall since that's awkward. It's hard to jumping
- 12:26jack with that, but otherwise, yeah, that's all you hear. Ah.
- 12:29I go over to talk with Mika.
- 12:32I'll be right back.
- 12:338910.
- 12:36Yep. Keep going. Mika. Mika.
- 12:40All right, so at the crime scene, we found
- 12:43what was it? The cloth. Do we have the
- 12:46cloth that had the ink on it?
- 12:49Guys? I think it was left in the
- 12:52think it yeah, I think Bill had it, I think and left it in
- 12:55the bush when he went to
- 12:58man. I probably should have gathered that piece of material
- 13:01evidence. Uh, one of the guards steps forward and he
- 13:04says, I couldn't help but notice I heard you
- 13:07say the cloth. Are you talking about this
- 13:09cloth? And he holds out a white cloth
- 13:12with black smudges all over it. I found
- 13:15it over at the I was there when you guys were investigating.
- 13:18I saw you guys take it into the bush, and I thought, hey,
- 13:21that's evidence. Uh, I'd rather
- 13:24not get blown away.
- 13:27It's a little irresponsible, but that's all right.
- 13:30Well, this guy is
- 13:33either using his noggin or
- 13:36tampering with evidence. I can assume it's
- 13:39the first one. All right,
- 13:43how can we test
- 13:45this smudged material
- 13:48to what's on
- 13:50these people? Because a lot of these
- 13:53guys in this town are apparently
- 13:56filthy. The only,
- 13:59uh, people who seem to have the
- 14:02smudges are Councilman Young.
- 14:06Mayor Wu.
- 14:11I can read my own handwriting, I swear.
- 14:14Well, Mr. Lee had that sort, uh, of black
- 14:17powder on him. Mr. Lee had the black powder and the
- 14:20Blacksmith. Those are the four that
- 14:24I mean, I got literally nothing out of my conversation from the
- 14:27Blacksmith, but I'd start with those four. So we
- 14:30need four spoons
- 14:34to just sort of expedite the cough test.
- 14:39Oh, man. We're going to need your first
- 14:42three favorite spoons.
- 14:43No, not all my favorite spoons. Just don't
- 14:46forget, you guys are renting these, so I expect
- 14:49interest when you bring them back.
- 14:53So can we kind of just line them all up and just
- 14:56at the same time, just shove spoons of cinnamon
- 14:59into their mouth? Okay. All right. Who did you
- 15:02want? You wanted. Uh, Wei, the blacksmith.
- 15:05You wanted Councilman Young. Councilman Young.
- 15:08Mayor Wu. Okay. And Lay.
- 15:10And Lay. All four people.
- 15:13Oh, no, we already tried lay. Yes. Let's try
- 15:16him again just in case that wasn't a good enough cough
- 15:19while doing jumping checks. Well,
- 15:22he hit 20, and now he stopped. Hey,
- 15:25I said to keep going.
- 15:27I thought you said I only had to do 20.
- 15:30Okay, uh, yeah, I'm down for, uh,
- 15:33shoving cinnamon in their mouth just to try that cop
- 15:36test with anybody who might match that ink. All
- 15:39right, guys, we need your help
- 15:41over here. All right, so the four of you
- 15:44I'm not here. Oh, yeah, you left you're
- 15:47at a boat. All right, the three of
- 15:50you stand across from four individuals,
- 15:53and, uh, you prepare four
- 15:56spoonfuls of cinnamon. And
- 15:59Cato says, well, you guys
- 16:02are looking for kind of more of a
- 16:05that's what it sounded like. It sounded like
- 16:09thank you. Like a ghost. Like
- 16:11coffee. Actually, we've already
- 16:14tested Mr. Lee. Kato.
- 16:17Uh, we better test you. Me?
- 16:20Just to make sure it wasn't your own cough you
- 16:22heard. Okay, so we stick the
- 16:25spoons in their mouths.
- 16:52It sounds
- 16:55awful close to what your
- 16:58cato. Well, it wasn't me.
- 17:07Spiky dude startled
- 17:10himself with his own, um, cough.
- 17:14Probably ran to go see where the noise came
- 17:17from. In an armor jingle.
- 17:22He just saw some shadow in the bush.
- 17:25What was that noise? Wearing some black clothes over
- 17:28there. What was that noise?
- 17:35What? Just for clarity's sake, what's the other people
- 17:38sound like. Okay, so you go through them. Uh,
- 17:41councilman. Uh, well, we'll start with Mayor Wu.
- 17:44You stick it into Mayor Wu's mouth, and he says
- 17:47uh, Councilman Young goes
- 17:53write that down. Write that down. Wei
- 17:55goes and, uh,
- 17:58that's the three you haven't heard yet. So
- 18:01Wei, councilman Young and Cato. So
- 18:04only one was not like the.
- 18:06Second one was the most accurate.
- 18:08The last one was the second one was the
- 18:11most accurate. The second one was the farthest. His original
- 18:14cough was you're not even in the room. How do you hear these coughs?
- 18:17Literally, the second person who's the mayor.
- 18:20Or the Councilman Young? Was the second one. Uh,
- 18:23Councilman Young? Uh, yeah. The second
- 18:26one not counting Cato, right? Oh, not
- 18:29counting Kato. That was way. Which one is the second
- 18:32one out.
- 18:33Of the last three?
- 18:34We just yeah, okay, that was
- 18:37Way. No, I thought it was
- 18:40oh, no, uh, it was Young. Yeah, because
- 18:43young Mayor Wu approaches
- 18:46you. He has a glass of water in his hand and he's
- 18:48rinsing out the, uh, cinnamon taste from his
- 18:51mouth.
- 18:51And he's like so what clues did we get
- 18:54from that? Is the cough relevant
- 18:57to the case?
- 18:58Yeah, why don't you let us worry about the details of
- 19:01the case, mister?
- 19:02My apologies. I was simply
- 19:05curious about the current status of the case.
- 19:08Uh, we don't want, uh, to have
- 19:11him hiding any jingles.
- 19:15Mayor Wu, you don't want him hiding any jingles? What do
- 19:18you mean? All right, I'm going to need some
- 19:21jumping jacks.
- 19:224142-4344
- 19:28Lee, you can stop.
- 19:29Good work, Mr. Lee. But everybody else get
- 19:32a jumping everybody
- 19:34there, everybody there starts doing
- 19:37jumping jacks. Uh, you listen for
- 19:40a fairly reasonable intensive jingling. Uh,
- 19:43Mayor Wu, he seems to have some keys
- 19:46on his person. Not a lot of keys, but just like one
- 19:49thing of keys on his belt. And it makes a bit of a small
- 19:51jingling. Councilman Young
- 19:54also has keys on his belt, similar
- 19:57in number. Uh, he also has a couple of
- 20:00looks, uh, like medals, like kind of military style
- 20:03medals. Uh, those also jingle a little bit.
- 20:06Of course, Kato wearing some fairly heavy
- 20:09armor and having some weaponry. Oh,
- 20:11geez, I'm really jingling.
- 20:14Kind of like the guy I heard earlier at the thing.
- 20:17He was really jingling too.
- 20:20I sound almost,
- 20:25um, wei, um, the blacksmith,
- 20:28he also has a copious amount of
- 20:31jingling. And Kato looks over him and he goes, man,
- 20:33you're jingling about as much as I am,
- 20:37Mayor. Uh, yu. The other,
- 20:40uh, also, she has a variety of jewelry on her
- 20:43person. So, uh, she jingles a little bit. It's a very light kind
- 20:46of, um, jingling. Um, yes,
- 20:49more of like a tingling. That's right. And, um, then,
- 20:51naya, the merchant is, uh, doing
- 20:54some very, uh, what's the
- 20:57word I'm looking for? He's not getting far off the ground. He's a
- 21:00fairly heavy man, but, uh, he too jingles quite a
- 21:03bit when he jumping jacks. And, uh,
- 21:06occasionally a coin pops out of his pocket and he
- 21:08quickly stops jumping jacking. Jump
- 21:11jacking. Jack. Huh, I never thought about
- 21:14that before. Uh, to pick up the coin, puts it back in his
- 21:17pocket, goes back to jumping jacks. He's definitely heading
- 21:20towards out of breath very quickly
- 21:23and that's about it. Everybody else seems to be fairly
- 21:25just cloth movement
- 21:29sound. So we got
- 21:32six people that are jingling, but
- 21:35three of them just hear those people
- 21:37jingling. Three of them, um,
- 21:40match the black stuff and the
- 21:43cough,
- 21:45I guess. Four if you count Kata. What about
- 21:53Naya? Yep. As Mr. Naya was jumping,
- 21:56I remembered we found that,
- 22:00uh, deep boot print
- 22:03in the mud. The
- 22:06boot was about uh,
- 22:10uh, it was bigger than Kato's boot. Two hands.
- 22:14Mhm. It's a fairly large boot. Was that two
- 22:16of my hands or two of your
- 22:21man? I can't remember. Two of
- 22:28it might have been Bill's hands because Bill was the one that found him. It
- 22:30was slightly bigger than Kato's boot
- 22:33print. No, it was yeah,
- 22:36yeah, we need Bill.
- 22:39Well, he's, uh, at a boat probably.
- 22:41Just so there's
- 22:44also always the possibility of who's actually wearing
- 22:47boots, um, in general. Mr.
- 22:50Naya. Yeah, just who's wearing
- 22:54can you can just look around the room and see who's wearing boots?
- 22:57Okay, people wearing boots. Uh, Wei, the
- 23:00blacksmith cato, of course, is wearing
- 23:02boots. Lei, uh, the fisherman, is
- 23:05wearing boots. Councilman Juan from
- 23:08Quinchao Village is wearing boots and
- 23:11Naya is wearing some boots. But they're very
- 23:14like fancy boots. They have a little bit of a
- 23:17heel to them.
- 23:19And just to clarify from your remembrance,
- 23:22the footprint you saw did not have a heel. It was a very
- 23:25standard, more of a work or
- 23:28military boot versus a
- 23:30decorative fancy boot. Can we just have the guard
- 23:33shake down all of these people simultaneously?
- 23:37This hurts my brain. Only there was one person here
- 23:40that just does that.
- 23:45Snyder's.
- 23:46Ah, return is a tabletop roleplay interview and
- 23:48actual play podcast. We chat with content

- 24:28Are you, like me, a fan of
- 24:31piracy or privateering, um,
- 24:34out in your DND campaign? Well, check
- 24:37this out. We have been working on a brand
- 24:39new airship combat system. That
- 24:42means you and your privateer crew can now
- 24:45take to the skies and pillage at new
- 24:48heights. Within this system you will
- 24:51get three dimensional dynamic movement and
- 24:53combat rules. You'll get a brand new
- 24:56updated air crew system as well as
- 24:59brand new spells, items, creatures,
- 25:02and example airships for you to use in your
- 25:05campaign as well as crews to put on
- 25:07them. But I think the coolest part about all of this
- 25:10is we have a custom ship builder
- 25:13application that will allow you to customize and
- 25:15build your very own airship.
- 25:18It means you and your team can have exactly
- 25:21what you want as you take on the skies.
- 25:25If you're interested in any of that, check out our Sky
- 25:27Zephyrs Kickstarter here at, uh, Hermione and the

- 26:24get some of our merch, be sure to tag us in a photo of you with
- 26:27the respective BNB swag, because all of us at the
- 26:29studio would love to see it. Thanks for listening.
- 26:32Let's get back to the show.
- 26:38Can I try Earth bending in a way
- 26:41that sort of shakes everybody down at the same
- 26:44time? You
- 26:46could do, like Toph does
- 26:49when she tries to give Aang a
- 26:52massage and she just stomps the
- 26:54ground while he's on that little section
- 26:57of tiny columns. And then all the columns will
- 27:00randomly kind of shoot up and poke him in different spots on
- 27:03his back, like in a really intensive and
- 27:06that might shake some people. See, I was
- 27:08thinking I Earthbend
- 27:11to where their feet are stuck in
- 27:14rocks oh. And then put them upside down. And then I sort of
- 27:17lift the floor up and
- 27:20just yonk, it over.
- 27:23So everybody's upside down. Uh, I would
- 27:26say I will for this, but absolutely.
- 27:29Give me a rely on your skills and training,
- 27:32and that rolls alongside. This
- 27:35could go
- 27:37actually, I'm going to say push your luck, because
- 27:40this explicitly says a fairly risky
- 27:43situation. And this is a fairly
- 27:46risky situation. Do I have any, uh,
- 27:49modifiers? Uh, this would fall
- 27:51under passion. Passion. Okay. Is
- 27:54Brock familiar with a dead fault
- 27:57trap? Yes. As you
- 28:00can see, I'm just ready to
- 28:05so nine nine.
- 28:08All right. Uh, it succeeds,
- 28:11but it costs you to scrape by. That means
- 28:14it's going to have to cost you something. Okay.
- 28:17You stomp the ground and
- 28:19twist your foot which causes the
- 28:22sand or stone underneath their feet
- 28:25to sort of become coarse and then quickly
- 28:28resolidify, sealing their feet into the
- 28:30floor. And then as they start
- 28:33to kind of panic a little bit, you slam your other foot down,
- 28:36which raises a platform into the air and
- 28:39immediately twists in such a way that cause
- 28:42or you use your arms to kind of twist it in such a way so that they're
- 28:44all sort of upside down to some extent, or
- 28:47sideways at the very least.
- 28:50Nobody panic. We're just going to try and
- 28:52expedite this whole thing and I just kind of like shake
- 28:55them up and down and uh you're simply trying
- 28:58to find what's in their pockets. Yes. I'm just going
- 29:01to see if anyone has the scale on. Oh, just straight
- 29:04up. Uh uh.
- 29:07No scales fall out? No. Could I
- 29:10hold them there until someone just
- 29:13speaks up and says they had the
- 29:16scale? I, uh, would say yes, except
- 29:19for by scraping by, it lasts for a quick
- 29:21moment before you're unable to
- 29:24hold the bending anymore and everybody kind of drops to the ground
- 29:27upside down and hurts themselves a little bit. You
- 29:30hear a series
- 29:39well, and uh, as they're all
- 29:42picking themselves up all grumbling and angry, mayor Yu looks
- 29:44over.
- 29:45And he says, let's not do that
- 29:48again, please.
- 29:49We won't have to. I don't
- 29:52know. I think we should do it again. I mean
- 29:55underneath, uh underneath let me roll
- 29:58underneath where Niall was, there's like a large
- 30:01pile of coins falling out of his pocket
- 30:04and he just starts like scooping them all up and he's.
- 30:06Like, um this is starting to become
- 30:09excruciatingly painful.
- 30:12So can we all agree nobody wants to do that again?
- 30:16There's the resounding. Yes. So I
- 30:19won't have to do it again if whoever took the scale
- 30:22will speak up.
- 30:23Excuse me, Mr. Brock. This investigation is
- 30:26turning into torture.
- 30:28I think you're the one who wanted to put his
- 30:30faith in a bunch of strangers and this is
- 30:33the result you get.
- 30:34I would like to hear what the young lady has to say about
- 30:37this.
- 30:37I roll the ten, sir.
- 30:43You, uh, once again, slam.
- 30:46Hey, what are your principles, by the way? My
- 30:49principle like my balance. Yeah. I am,
- 30:52uh, a force plus two. So if you want to count that, I'm at
- 30:55twelve. Yeah, well, it's going to have to go up
- 30:58to no, uh, it's going to go up again
- 31:00though because you're leaning more towards
- 31:03force again. Well, yeah. Classic
- 31:06Brock. Am I right? So 13.
- 31:09Yeah.
- 31:11To just try and hold people upside down until
- 31:14somebody talks. All right. Because I'm getting tired
- 31:17of this, sir. All right. You
- 31:20shake and you shake and you shake and they're all
- 31:23crying out in anger and some
- 31:25fear and many put me
- 31:28down.
- 31:28Release me.
- 31:30I'm not the one who stole it. Put me down.
- 31:32I'm so sorry.
- 31:34Excuse me.
- 31:35I feel like you're not.
- 31:37I feel like that is a lie.
- 31:41Does anybody in this time, does anybody speak
- 31:44or anything else? Any new information? Uh, they
- 31:47fear what you might do to the person who stole it.
- 31:53This can all stop if someone speaks
- 31:56up. All right? We're going to adjust it. So we're going to say that
- 31:59you did it again, but this time, let's run it as an
- 32:01intimidate, okay? That
- 32:04way, uh, you pick one that they
- 32:07can't choose from the list. It'd be the same role. It's the same
- 32:10role because it's still with passion. Um, so
- 32:13of the options they have, they run to escape or get back up. I'm going
- 32:16to say that's not an option. As it is.
- 32:19Um, they back down, but keep watch. They give in with a
- 32:22few stipulations, or they attack you. But off
- 32:25balance, the GM marks a condition on them.
- 32:28So I pick one they can't do. Correct.
- 32:30Uh, they can't attack me. Okay,
- 32:33so if they also can't run right,
- 32:36then they either have to back down, but
- 32:39keep watch, or they have to give in with a
- 32:42few stipulations. What does that mean? Back?
- 32:44Yeah, it's like they're going to
- 32:47attack you. So it sounds
- 32:50to me like someone's given in.
- 32:56This guy was probably fuming right? Now I'm not fuming.
- 32:59Trying to figure out how they would handle this. This
- 33:02whole story he's woven together over hours
- 33:06is now just kidding. All right.
- 33:08Finally, a voice cries
- 33:11out.
- 33:11All right, it was me. Please.
- 33:14I did it. You spoke me down.
- 33:17So I'll flip everybody over. Okay,
- 33:20and so who said that? Uh,
- 33:23you look and you see way the blacksmith called
- 33:26it. Mr. Blacksmith,
- 33:28sir, would you like to
- 33:31explain yourself?
- 33:32That's right. I did it. I had to show
- 33:35the people that he wasn't real.
- 33:37In fact, he says, and he reaches
- 33:40into a pouch, a hidden
- 33:43pouch inside of his, uh, apron,
- 33:45and it's got, like, a little button on it. And he unbuttons it, and he
- 33:48swings his arm down, and he throws
- 33:52the scale at the ground with all the force he
- 33:55can muster from a standing position.
- 33:57And you can see as you kind of turn and everything
- 34:00goes into slow mo
- 34:03as Mayor uh, Yu
- 34:06and Mayor Wu kind of
- 34:09no. And
- 34:12as the, uh, scale hits the
- 34:15ground, fragments start to break
- 34:18off and shatter in every direction as it starts
- 34:21to almost disintegrate upon touching the
- 34:24hard floor, until there's only about half a
- 34:27scale left, and the rest of it is just shattered across the
- 34:30ground. And everybody's just frozen,
- 34:32stunned. We found your scale.
- 34:35You're welcome. See you later. Uh, no,
- 34:38it's probably not the mayor. I mean, we
- 34:41found the scale. Kind of looks around, really
- 34:44awkward.
- 34:44Well, uh,
- 34:47this is awkward.
- 34:49And Mayor Yu finally speaks up, and.
- 34:51She says, I knew it. Their scale
- 34:54was fake. No scale from a spirit
- 34:57beast would possibly shatter in such a. Way.
- 35:00It's obviously a glass replica. I
- 35:03knew it.
- 35:04Um oh, yeah. That scale is a
- 35:07big old phony. Neither of them is
- 35:10real.
- 35:10Well, then I guess we'll just have to
- 35:13test that theory. And Mary Yu
- 35:16says or sorry, Mary.
- 35:18Wu says, yeah, I think we should just go and test
- 35:21that theory.
- 35:21Well, now, I don't think that's really
- 35:24necessary.
- 35:25But it's your scale where Will story is.
- 35:27Well, no, I don't think that's
- 35:30really necessary.
- 35:32People start filing out in almost an angry mob out of
- 35:35the office, like, well, actually sorry, let me
- 35:37rephrase. People from Chin Village. What's that?
- 35:40I thought the scale was there.
- 35:41There's two scales. There's two scales? Yeah. So there's the one
- 35:44from Quinchao village.
- 35:45Yeah.
- 35:45So where are they leaving it's? In the
- 35:48vault? Yeah. So they're headed to the vault. So the people
- 35:51from Chin Village are like, let's go see the scale.
- 35:54Let's go destroy the scale. And then the people from
- 35:56Quinchao Village are like, oh, no, wait. I don't think
- 35:59this is necessary at, uh, all it's their
- 36:02song.
- 36:06Um, Bill, where are you at right now? On the boat.
- 36:09You, uh, just walked straight like you beelined it for the docks.
- 36:12I'm already on a boat. Okay, you're on a boat. I've
- 36:15been, uh, prepping. Okay?
- 36:18Everything in me wants to just take off. What are your prep? I
- 36:21know that would completely
- 36:24derail everything, so I'm not
- 36:27okay.
- 36:30But I'm preparing everything, making sure the
- 36:33boat's nice. It's good. It can fit all of us. Okay.
- 36:35My principles are trust and self reliance.
- 36:38Okay, well, since you're not leaving, I'm not going to move
- 36:41it. If you left, that would 100% push you
- 36:44towards self, but you're not doing that. So, um,
- 36:47whatever the case, uh, you see from a distance
- 36:52yeah, that's what I was getting to, is you can kind of see
- 36:55there's sort of like a break, sort of an alleyway almost,
- 36:58between a couple of the buildings. And you can kind of see the doorway
- 37:00to the, um, courthouse, if
- 37:03you will, or the city hall. And you see a flood of all the people
- 37:06that you had just seen before start flooding out the doors. And
- 37:09they all seem to be chanting, and they're in a mob, or some of them
- 37:12are looking really concerned and stuff, and they all seem to
- 37:15be making their way. Uh, the storage facility is
- 37:18actually not too far from the docks. You can actually see
- 37:21the back of it from where you're at, and they all seem to be making their way
- 37:24towards it.
- 37:27You just chilling the boat? Yes. Okay. All
- 37:30right, sounds good. I'll jump back over to you guys. Prepping.
- 37:33Just prepping the boat. Sounds good. So back over to you guys.
- 37:36Uh, you guys are following as this mob sort of makes its way
- 37:39to the facility. And, of course, the guards
- 37:42that are waiting from Quinchao Village at this facility
- 37:45are very surprised to see this group. And, uh,
- 37:47Mayor Wu says,
- 37:50I do.
- 37:51Believe I'm going to need entrance into the facility,
- 37:54if you don't mind.
- 37:55No, don't let them inside. They're here to
- 37:58destroy the scale.
- 37:59And they're like, well, it's their facility. We really can't stop.
- 38:02They're here to destroy the.
- 38:06You know, at that know, the mayor pushes
- 38:09them out of the way, and Keto walks up. He's like, oh, I got the
- 38:12keys of this thing, so I'm going to open it.
- 38:14He opens it up, and they all start walking inside.
- 38:17And then, of course, Bill from the boat, you're seeing all
- 38:20this happen in front of you, having no context to any of this.
- 38:23You just see this group of angry people
- 38:26walk out of the facility carrying
- 38:29the glass casing that has the red scale
- 38:32inside of it. And they seem to be starting to make their
- 38:35way towards, um,
- 38:37the town square. And you notice that
- 38:40one individual in the group, it's just one of the guards, seems
- 38:43to be holding the half broken
- 38:46scale green scale from Chin village. So obviously
- 38:49somebody found it, I guess, and also
- 38:52broke it. The rest of you guys kind of
- 38:55follow this mob as they make their way to the town square.
- 38:57And, uh, again, Mayor Yu is
- 39:00truly panicking over this whole scenario.
- 39:03No, please don't harm the scale. Please.
- 39:06It could be very fragile. This is wholly
- 39:09unnecessary.
- 39:10She's trying to get it back, but you've got a pretty angry
- 39:12mob that's keeping her away from it. And eventually they make it to
- 39:15the town square. And of course, everybody from the festival
- 39:18is kind of waiting there. And they all turn around,
- 39:21and, uh, the Mayor Wu
- 39:24stands up in front.
- 39:25Of him and he says, people of Qin and Quing Chao
- 39:27village alike, I'd like to garnish your attention for the
- 39:30moment. We've decided as a
- 39:33group that we are going to test the reality
- 39:36of the red scale once and for all.
- 39:39And he just chucks it straight at the ground,
- 39:43and Mayor You screams out, no
- 39:47as it falls and shatters onto the ground.
- 39:50And everyone goes. And then, of
- 39:53course, the uninformed people who weren't there for the rest
- 39:55of the situation start going. The green scale is
- 39:58real. They hold up the green broken scale, and
- 40:01everyone goes. And then it just gets really
- 40:04quiet. Can we just slowly
- 40:07walk towards
- 40:09just I just want to slowly walk towards
- 40:12silently. You're doing, like, a very cartoonish
- 40:15like as you back. I'll
- 40:18just I'm just going to slowly and silently make my way over to
- 40:21the boat. Okay. Mika and Guao, what are you guys
- 40:24doing? Is Mr. Wei
- 40:27here? Yeah, he was part of the angry
- 40:30mob, so he was happy at the idea that we're about to
- 40:33go smash the other one.
- 40:35Honestly, this worked out better than I possibly could
- 40:37have imagined.
- 40:39One of those reporters. Mr. Way. Mr.
- 40:42Way, uh, how did you know the scale was a fake.
- 40:45Well, as I'd mentioned before, I knew right
- 40:48from the beginning that the scales were fake because,
- 40:50well, why would a magical spirit
- 40:53beast be dropping the scales off itself in random
- 40:56villages? You ever seen a snake?
- 40:58They don't drop scales. They shed their horse
- 41:01skin. And that's how I knew
- 41:04it.
- 41:05Uh, thank you for your comment.
- 41:08And now we know that both the scales were
- 41:11fake. And these two and he points at both the
- 41:14mayors, one of the perpetrators of the whole thing,
- 41:17they've been lying to you good folks all this
- 41:20time. So now I ask all of you, what are
- 41:23we going to do about it?
- 41:25And, uh, you
- 41:28see, Lee is like,
- 41:31sprawled out on the ground, like sideways
- 41:34tears streaming down, like clearing the ash off
- 41:37of his face as they go.
- 41:40He's just crying silently,
- 41:43though. It's like a, uh, deep cry
- 41:46that's internal. It's almost entirely
- 41:48internal. And you can see that his entire
- 41:51soul has been crushed and his entire
- 41:54existence is now no
- 41:57longer. As he's realized that
- 42:00neither of the scales are real, you wonder. You're
- 42:02like, man, I bet a guy like that, if one of the scales was
- 42:05broken, he'd probably just move to the other village and be like, yeah,
- 42:08no, it's all good, because this was the real one all
- 42:11along. No, they're both fake.
- 42:14His reality is shattered. And, uh,
- 42:17Wei stands there and he.
- 42:18Says, what are we going to do about
- 42:21it?
- 42:22And, uh, you see the two
- 42:24mayors are whispering to each other at the
- 42:27moment, and
- 42:30they step forward
- 42:33and they say, mayor, uh, Wu, since
- 42:36it's his village, technically.
- 42:37He says, well, uh, all I have
- 42:40to say is that, uh, the three.
- 42:42Of you and he turns to you guys
- 42:45and looks a little surprised because it's just you and Mika
- 42:48at this point. Whoa.
- 42:50Uh, congratulations.
- 42:53Yes. You solved the mystery of the fake
- 42:56scales. Yes, that's
- 42:59it. Uh, we've had this contest going for years.
- 43:02Unbeknownst to all of you, be,
- 43:05sure enough, these strangers and of
- 43:08course, Way was, uh, also involved in
- 43:11solving the mystery. Well done to all of you.
- 43:14You've won the contest.
- 43:16Yeah, I did it. And he
- 43:18turns to the people and.
- 43:19He'S like, yes, and next year we're
- 43:22going to do it all again. But we
- 43:25switched up. Make it a new mystery.
- 43:28That way it keeps things fresh every year,
- 43:31and you all have a chance to try and solve it.
- 43:34And as he's saying this, lei kind of starts to pick
- 43:36himself up off the ground a little
- 43:39bit.
- 43:40A, uh, contest. A, uh, contest.
- 43:42But what about Shui Shui?
- 43:45Ah, yes, well, Shue Shui will
- 43:48always be there watching over us, whether or
- 43:51not we have her, uh, scales.
- 43:53Oh, okay. Hooray. Shue
- 43:55Shui.
- 43:57And you watch as the festivities kind of start
- 44:00to go back to normal a little bit. Music starts to play in
- 44:03the background. The vendors are shouting
- 44:06out to buy food and there are some
- 44:08games to play and everybody kind of starts to go back to
- 44:11it. And, uh, mayor's approach you
- 44:14and Mika?
- 44:16Well, that was a bit
- 44:19awkward, to say the least.
- 44:21I suppose things are in order.
- 44:24Well done in solving the mystery and
- 44:27we appreciate you all joining in on the
- 44:29festivities. I'm sure
- 44:32we can get someone to get you over to
- 44:35Whaletail Island right away.
- 44:38Ley, ley, would
- 44:41you mind taking these wonderful folks to
- 44:44Whaletail Island?
- 44:45Oh, yes, of course.
- 44:47Thank you very much.
- 44:48All right, I just got to take care of one thing
- 44:51here. I'm, um, going to go
- 44:54and find the old man.
- 44:56You you ate my pie
- 44:59and now I'm out of crackers. And you took
- 45:02all my spoons. Where are my spoons?
- 45:05Where is my interest payment?
- 45:07Here's your spoons. Here's your spoon. He starts just sucking
- 45:10on the spoon. Each, uh, one he like, takes each
- 45:13one individually and sucks on it for a second. And I've also
- 45:16brought you this. And I pull out an
- 45:19empty glass of milk.
- 45:22A little trickle in the bottom. He grabs it out
- 45:25of your hand and he just sticks his nose into it, goes.
- 45:32It'S m fresh.
- 45:34But that's not it. Did I pull out a half
- 45:36full bottle of cinnamon?
- 45:40He jams his nose into that and goes.
- 45:45Also fresh. All right, have a nice
- 45:48day. Thank you. You're a good boy.
- 45:51Yes, you are.
- 45:53Back up slowly.
- 45:54Bye.
- 45:55And run away.
- 45:58Lose myself in the crowd. Yes. All right.
- 46:00Um, and eventually you push your way through that crowd
- 46:03and you find yourself at, uh, the docks. You see
- 46:06Bill standing out on a boat. Um, you see Lay
- 46:09walking up and.
- 46:10He says, oh, wow, you found my boat very
- 46:13fast and got it ready
- 46:16for sailing. Did I leave it like that?
- 46:19Well, I must have gotten a bit excited for the
- 46:22festival and completely forgot about putting things.
- 46:26Like is everyone here? Think so?
- 46:29I think so. Mika here. Mika, are you
- 46:33all right? Good. All right, we turn around. There's Mika.
- 46:36Oh, she's just standing there on the
- 46:38boat, quietly.
- 46:42Uh, so he climbs onto the boat and with
- 46:45that, you guys take off into the
- 46:47waters towards the island in the distance that you
- 46:50know, is Whaletail Island. So they were,
- 46:57uh, uh, it took a
- 47:00little so that means Way stole
- 47:03it. Yeah, he stole it.
- 47:05If he didn't have any buttons sewn into his jacket, it would have
- 47:08been over a lot quicker. But what does that mean?
- 47:11What does that mean? Uh,
- 47:14I don't know. Why did you get the guards to shake him
- 47:17down? Did you just point to him and say, shake that guy
- 47:20down? Sort of,
- 47:23yeah. Brock, what's up? Did
- 47:25you Earth bend?
- 47:29Nah. You.
- 47:34I can't earth bend, Brock.
- 47:39No, I don't know what you're talking about. Okay.
- 47:42You should have been there. It's one of those jokes. You should have been there. I
- 47:45had to be there. It was a rigorous multi step
- 47:48investigation. Ah. Uh,
- 47:51there's a lot of steps. That's probably why I left early, because it
- 47:54sounded like a lot of work and
- 47:57I was starting to suspect Kate.
- 48:01I think he was too dumb to do
- 48:05know. I thought that was maybe an act.
- 48:10All lies have an element of truth to
- 48:14know. So the biggest lie was
- 48:17just they were fake? Both, I'm assuming.
- 48:20Yeah, both. Uh, that's what the crowd was.
- 48:23Yeah. I saw the first broken one, and then I saw them carrying away the
- 48:26second one. And then I heard the crowd go. I heard a loud
- 48:29gasp, so I figured that's when they broke the second
- 48:32one. Yes. Ah.
- 48:35That's when I came out here. Uh, switched
- 48:38the place pretty quickly,
- 48:40like you did something wrong. I did nothing
- 48:43wrong. Okay. Uh, he's really
- 48:46wanted to come boating with good
- 48:49little Broding. Little Broding.
- 48:52That's right. And then Mika showed up behind us.
- 48:56How long were you standing here for?
- 48:58Literally the whole time.
- 49:01The whole time? I was fixing the boat. She's just watching
- 49:04you. She's just been
- 49:07silently watching you, just like, from the shore. You watched me
- 49:09do all of that work and didn't even offer to help?
- 49:14I just saw you meant with you guys. I've literally been here the whole
- 49:17time.
- 49:17Oh, okay.
- 49:19Well hey, Ley, how far is it to
- 49:22this island? It's not that far. We'll
- 49:25be there soon. Are you sure you're in any condition to
- 49:28drive a boat? Um, having your whole
- 49:31religion just tear it away from you. You know,
- 49:34I'm definitely in a bit of mental
- 49:37turmoil, but I like to see, and
- 49:40it relaxes me. And,
- 49:42uh, I'm close to shui shui
- 49:45here, so, uh, I feel like I'll be
- 49:47okay. All of us are in a bit of turmoil,
- 49:50too. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
- 49:53What's wrong? What's wrong?
- 49:56Uh,
- 49:59we're searching for a will.
- 50:02Well, where there's a will, there's a way. That's
- 50:05right.
- 50:08Man, Bill, I was distracted with this whole
- 50:11festival. Now you gotta bring me back to reality. I
- 50:14mean, that's all I've been thinking about, this whole
- 50:17like that's why I didn't really care about the stone or any of
- 50:20that, because why should I worry about their problems? I have
- 50:23bigger problems of my own right now.
- 50:26Yeah. Sorry to be real Debbie
- 50:29Downer guys, but, uh, I want
- 50:32to find that treasure, so
- 50:36I got my priorities straight. I
- 50:39want to make sure you guys do, too. You still have that letter that Mr. M.
- 50:42O'cong gave you? Yeah, I did. I
- 50:45might have cried a little when I read. So can you read it again?
- 50:48I kind of forgot what it, uh yeah,
- 50:51maybe next time. Maybe when we get to
- 50:54land, that would make more sense, because that's when we
- 50:57actually have to track down pieces and stuff,
- 50:59like step by step. Yeah, but from a man who's
- 51:02got his priority straight. He should have it memorized.
- 51:06I don't even have the letter anymore. You just said you had
- 51:09it. No, I gave it to Mika. Did you not just
- 51:12say 10 seconds ago you had it?
- 51:14When did you give it to me?
- 51:15When you kept badgering me about it.
- 51:20You literally just said that you have it.
- 51:22We all say stuff, Brock. We all
- 51:25say stuff. We're all changed, people.
- 51:28You changed in 20 seconds. Oh, I still
- 51:31have it. Phil's just
- 51:34padding his body looking for it,
- 51:36nervous, like, oh, crap. Oh, yes,
- 51:39here it is. I never gave it to Mika. So what's it
- 51:42say? So we got some time to think about it
- 51:45before we get to Whaletail Island, because time is of the essence
- 51:48here.
- 51:48I think it'll be that much more dramatic if we save
- 51:51the reading of the letter again for next
- 51:54time.
- 51:59We want to take a moment before I do the outro to mention a couple of
- 52:02things. Firstly, I'm going to mention, uh, it during the
