- 0:00But how so do you have a daughter or a friend, who's
- 0:02female and you think that they may be on the autism spectrum?
- 0:05And you don't always a goal on this video.
- 0:07I'm talking about female autism characteristics and this is a
- 0:10female often checklist, The Ultimate Guide to, you know,
- 0:13coming up. Hey guys, welcome back to the as
- 0:22we world. My name is done.
- 0:23I have autism ADHD OCD and dyslexia and our weekly videos
- 0:27on this type of content. So, if you're new around here

- 0:42Okay. So there is this huge kind of
- 0:44like gap between females who are diagnosed with autism and males
- 0:48who diagnosed autism. Hey, I'm done.
- 0:51And I have autism myself and I mail.
- 0:53Now, I did a bunch of videos interviewing my friends who are
- 0:55female on the autism spectrum and I will leave a link to that
- 0:58playlist in the card above here and down below in the comment
- 1:01section, so that you guys can check that out.
- 1:02But in terms of the female to awesome balance, it's different
- 1:08to the mail and autism bounce, and it's completely way of
- 1:10actually it's one out of every three.
- 1:13So you get three males to one, female, who diagnosed with
- 1:15autism, which means that they're saying that female diagnosis is
- 1:18three times less likely than Male diagnosis, which is really
- 1:22weird, right? Let me know if you are a parent
- 1:25who are a friend or carry, who's looking for?
- 1:27Somebody else in the comments down below?
- 1:28Or are you a female who's looking to get diagnosed?
- 1:31Let me know in the comments right down below.
- 1:33Right now. I'd read and respond to every
- 1:35single one. Love talking to you guys.
- 1:37Super awesome. So, basically, I compiled a
- 1:39checklist of kind of like the main characteristics that you
- 1:43would, kind of look out for when you're thinking about, is my
- 1:46daughter on the Spectrum or is my best friend?
- 1:48Sheila. Is she on the Spectrum or Like
- 1:50my grandmother, she on the Spectrum, you know?
- 1:52And just recently I interviewed a woman on my podcast called
- 1:56Anna Wilson. And as mum was 72 years old and
- 1:59she got diagnosed autism, which is incredible, but it just shows
- 2:02that they just miss out a bulk all the time.
- 2:06And it's probably because they're not looking for the
- 2:08right things. And also, if you can get ahead
- 2:10of the game, like, if you can compile a list of the things
- 2:12that like you notice to be Autumn characteristics in the
- 2:16female person that you're dealing with before going to the
- 2:20The the assessment process or you got your doctor for a
- 2:22referral for assessment, then this is definitely going to help
- 2:24mr. By compile this checklist with
- 2:26seven items on it. And it's the ultimate one.
- 2:29So what I'll try and do it as well as I will try and compile
- 2:32this into a PDF document and leave it in a link down below.
- 2:35So, you guys can see that too because it'd be super awesome to
- 2:38have a printout version of this, that you can kind of, you know,
- 2:40just use at your leisure. Okay guys, were getting back to
- 2:44it. Super pups.
- 2:45Get this video done. If you want to grab yourself,
- 2:46some ask me, world merch, the link, and the carousel under the
- 2:50You can get yourself some AstroWorld merge.
- 2:52I've got a new line coming out and yeah, so definitely check
- 2:55that out. Okay.
- 2:55So here is the checklist or female autism checklist just for
- 2:59you. So the first one on here is lack
- 3:01of eye contact. No eye contact is a big issue
- 3:04for people on the autism spectrum.
- 3:06People on the autism spectrum have a difficulty making eye
- 3:08contact, and maintaining that eye contact, which then
- 3:12evidently causes a lot of issues for people and so it's a big
- 3:16indicator if someone can't hold a conversation with.
- 3:20Someone and keep consistent eye contact because consistent eye,
- 3:23contact is definitely one of the social norms that people kind of
- 3:26fine too. So when you're trying to think,
- 3:29well, is my daughter on the autism spectrum or my friend,
- 3:32whatever it will do, they make eye contact is the first of its
- 3:34kind of look out for if it's not exclusive and it's not a
- 3:37deal-breaker but it is definitely something that you
- 3:39should definitely look out for. So the next thing we list is
- 3:42difficulty socializing, no, social interaction, social
- 3:46communication socializing with other people.
- 3:48Other girls other guys, whatever.
- 3:50This can be super difficult for people who are on the autism
- 3:52spectrum, especially females who are more outgoing by in nature,
- 3:57but they're more introverted because of the conditions.
- 3:59So they have this conflict of wanting to socialize, but then
- 4:02they have a super difficulty of socializing, whereas males on
- 4:04the Spectrum, probably, just not even go out and socialize.
- 4:07But what I tend to see is that females who are wanting to go
- 4:10out and socialize and wanting to make friends but have extreme
- 4:12difficulties in that and have just been reclusive.
- 4:14They just end up saying, okay. Well that sucked.
- 4:17I got into this huge argument this girl and because they
- 4:19didn't understand me blah blah. Blah.
- 4:20And then they come home, and then they just lock themselves
- 4:22away. And then they have no friends.
- 4:23They have no social time, and it's really sad, and it's really
- 4:27upsetting. But that difficult for
- 4:29socializing is typically one of the most important ones to watch
- 4:33out for. So again, you take off that list
- 4:35you compiling quite all this straight.
- 4:37So the next one is, typically what I kind of talked about on
- 4:42last time, but which is the introverted personality but
- 4:45outgoing in general. And what I mean by that is, you
- 4:47know, they, they want to go out and they To kind of go out and
- 4:51do these things. Like they want to see friends.
- 4:52They want to go to university. They want to go to school.
- 4:54They want to do their best. I want to go to class, do all
- 4:56these things, you know, amongst having extreme social anxiety
- 4:59and and the fact that, you know, if they had a choice to go to a
- 5:02party of stay home and read their favorite book, They're
- 5:06going to come and stay home and read their favorite book because
- 5:09their intraverted by Nature, so it's quite a contradiction,
- 5:12isn't it? So, you know, your kid or your
- 5:13friend, or your mom or whoever it is, you're questioning right
- 5:16now, you know, they're definitely an introvert because
- 5:19you know who they are. You know, you lived and out but
- 5:21then they're all sudden like, you know, going out to these
- 5:24social engineering and how are you even doing this?
- 5:26Because they're the most introverted person ever, and
- 5:27it's so confusing. I love that contradiction, but
- 5:29you'll know, it's kind of like one of those things if, you
- 5:31know, I'm talking about, you know, you know, that's exactly
- 5:34it. And if you know that what I'm
- 5:35talking about right now, give this video a thumbs up.
- 5:38If you're a person on the Spectrum who is an introverted
- 5:40outgoing person. Please give this video a thumbs
- 5:43up with the like button down below because we super awesome
- 5:46to show a bit of love between everyone here, right now, as a
- 5:49bit of a, you know, You have hanging out.
- 5:51Awesome. Okay.
- 5:52So the next thing on my list is obsessive collector.
- 5:55Now girls who are on the autism spectrum, get obsessed with
- 5:58collecting certain things. It could be Twilight, DVDs,
- 6:00Twilight books. It could be a book series of or
- 6:03video series of Care Bears. It could be anything.
- 6:06Could even be Winnie, the Pooh plushie dolls, they collect.
- 6:10So people autism spectrum, conditions have obsessive
- 6:13interest and obsessive special interest.
- 6:15Where they'll know a lot about science subject and kind of read
- 6:18it till the cows come home. And you know if you sir By
- 6:20dinner table with them and you're lucky enough.
- 6:21Sat next person, you're gonna get the full rundown dictionary
- 6:25and Encyclopedia of the top of that.
- 6:26They really really like which is super cool but girls on the
- 6:29autism spectrum decide to take it a little bit further and
- 6:32they're typically more collectors of collect stuff.
- 6:35Now, you know exactly what I do. My mum's out there.
- 6:37Watching this video right now. Thinking gives me.
- 6:39That's my, that's my kid right there.
- 6:42And it's funny because I also collect things, but I observe
- 6:45collect things because of feeling a sort of personality to
- 6:48those objects, which is really interesting.
- 6:50And I did a video all about that, but in terms of, in terms
- 6:55of females on the spectrum of collecting, they're collecting
- 6:57because that's their Obsession and they'll click their
- 6:59Obsession and it accumulates, which is super, super
- 7:01interesting. I find it really interesting,
- 7:03really funny. And I know every moment there
- 7:04who's got like every beanie baby in there, kind of basement or
- 7:08waffled garage, or attic is going to be like, yep.
- 7:11We got him. We got every, you know, care
- 7:14bed, Teddy in the world sitting in her Loft.
- 7:17So yeah, super awesome. Okay, so the next one is really
- 7:19We interesting selective mutism. So selective mutism comes kind
- 7:24of hand-in-hand with autism and it's very, very common,
- 7:27especially with high support, needs people who are on the
- 7:31Spectrum, but in terms of females on the spectrum, they
- 7:34have a type of selective mutism where it comes into play where
- 7:38it's almost like it's like super shy.
- 7:40Like say you your daughter's really confidential talk to, you
- 7:45know, your family members everybody in blah, blah blah.
- 7:47She's like well, shut up about her.
- 7:50Topic talking to everybody, just chatter chatter chatter like we
- 7:52all do just super awesome. And then you are your friend
- 7:55comes over or your cousin who lives in like a different
- 7:57country comes over and he's like, hey, check out my
- 8:00daughter. Hey say hi daughter and
- 8:01daughters like completely. Just.
- 8:04Nope. Go.
- 8:04So room stays in the room, didn't say a word the whole
- 8:07time. The person's down.
- 8:08They could be staying with you for Christmas.
- 8:10And I will say a word to them, right?
- 8:11And it's selective mutism because it's like an
- 8:14overwhelming feeling, because it's like, it's overwhelming to
- 8:17be around somebody. You don't understand it, don't
- 8:19know. And so So it becomes a silent
- 8:21kind of gesture. Where you say.
- 8:23Well, I'm going to keep tax silent, keep quiet and I have
- 8:25nothing to add this conversation control.
- 8:27Still trying to set out the the anxiety from it.
- 8:30It's super, super common. And actually it's very, very
- 8:32common. You'll notice that a lot of kids
- 8:34on the Spectrum will be selectively mute, especially
- 8:36girls, and I've noticed this quite a lot.
- 8:39I can see you all taking off this list right here and like
- 8:40Northern your head and laughing to use. - yeah, it's super
- 8:44interesting, but I'm glad you're here and I'm glad that you are
- 8:46enjoying it and a guys remember if you want to follow me on
- 8:48Instagram, I do Post. And blog posts on there.
- 8:51So go over to Instagram. Give me a cheeky follow.
- 8:53I'm super dope. Okay.
- 8:54So the next one on my list is masking to melt down like what
- 8:58if some asking to melt down and it's basically this if you're
- 9:02masking is a term that you use in autism and it's common with
- 9:04everybody and autism but more so, common in females on the
- 9:07autism spectrum where they will try and put on a front.
- 9:09A Persona like, hey, I'll confident person.
- 9:11I'm going to talk to people in school.
- 9:12I want to go to school and all the stuff but it's exhausting
- 9:15because they're masking. They're putting on a Persona
- 9:17like a almost like they're acting to be some A else to fit
- 9:20into social norms, right. And by doing that, they kind of
- 9:23go to school all day. Don't want stuff.
- 9:25Masking the grade, a student super awesome, then it come
- 9:28home. And it's just like, you know,
- 9:30meltdown mode. Back, throws down goes up to the
- 9:33room has a crazy meltdown or, you know, your daughter comes
- 9:38home from school, a you come home from school, if you're a
- 9:40female and, you know, you've had a full day of masking and then
- 9:44you go to the fridge, to get a chocolate sauce out, because you
- 9:47going to be some polar ice cream with chocolate sauce, super dope
- 9:49MV. So, I have a vegan version
- 9:50Bridge stood up, and then there's no chocolate sauce that
- 9:54flips, the lid bang on tables flying.
- 9:57There's loads of stuff going on and it's called masking to melt
- 9:59down because you've kept it up all day to be, you know, all the
- 10:04masking all day and then at the end of the day, you kind of come
- 10:06home. And so having to mask causes
- 10:09meltdowns. So you'll definitely see this
- 10:10type of behavior. And at mums, dads, you've got to
- 10:13take this video as a like, if you understand exactly I'm
- 10:15talking about right now. I feel it.
- 10:17Okay. So the last thing here is, Shy
- 10:20and quiet. Now, typically girls on the
- 10:22autism spectrum are typically shy and quiet people, the quite
- 10:25well, you know, well Reserve they're not loud and obnoxious,
- 10:28you know, the quite shy quite reserved, you know, as typical
- 10:32people, you know, they're quite just into their thing and they
- 10:35do their own thing. So, this is a common
- 10:36characteristic that is sometimes, missed out because
- 10:39people don't really think, oh, just because they're shy,
- 10:41although, quiet means that they're on the Spectrum, but if
- 10:43you attach that to the other, like, six things I pointed out
- 10:47then, compiles quite the list. Wouldn't you say?
- 10:50That was the list. Now.
