- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. We are episode two forty-two. Luna: Hey! I am so ready for this one. Last week we talked about all the tools. Lucas: Right. The knife, the spoon, the plate. But we didn't really cook anything. Luna: Exactly. I have a knife, but I don't know what to do with it. Lucas: So today, we learn the actions. The verbs. Let's start with something simple. Luna: I love soup. So, how do you say 'stir the soup'? Lucas: The verb is revolver. It means to mix or to stir. Listen: revolver la sopa. Luna: Revolver la sopa. Okay. Revolver... la sopa. Lucas: Perfect. Revolver la sopa. You use a spoon. You move it in a circle. Luna: Revolver la sopa. I can do that. It sounds easy. Lucas: It is. Now, imagine the onions are burning. You need to stop. Luna: Oh no. What if I cut my finger? That would be bad. Lucas: Be careful. But first, you must prepare the onions. How do you say 'chop the onions'? Luna: Chop? Like... with the knife? Lucas: Yes. The verb is picar. Picar las cebollas. Listen: picar las cebollas. Luna: Picar las cebollas. Pica... r las cebo... llas. Lucas: Very good. Picar las cebollas. Small pieces. Fine dice. Luna: Picar las cebollas. Got it. So I chop them, then I put them in the pot. Lucas: Exactly. Then you add water. Then you stir. Remember our first phrase? Luna: Revolver la sopa. Yes. I am stirring the soup now. Lucas: Good. Wait. Smell that? The onions are browning. It smells amazing. Luna: Oh my gosh. I can smell it through the screen. I am hungry. Lucas: We are getting there. Now, let's make the bread for the soup. Luna: Bread? In the oven? That takes time. Lucas: Yes. The verb is hornear. Hornear el pan. Listen: hornear el pan. Luna: Hornear el pan. Hor... near el pan. Lucas: Correct. Hornear el pan. You put the dough inside the hot oven. Luna: Hornear el pan. I like that word. It sounds warm. Lucas: It does. So, we chop the onions. We stir the soup. We bake the bread. Luna: This is a lot of work. My arms are tired just thinking about it. Lucas: But when it is done, you will feel great. You will say one thing. Luna: What? 'It tastes good'? No, that's too complicated. Lucas: Simpler. When you eat, you say: tengo hambre. Luna: Tengo hambre. I have hunger? Is that right? Lucas: Literally yes. But in English, we say 'I am hungry'. Tengo hambre. Listen: tengo hambre. Luna: Tengo hambre. Tengo... hambre. Lucas: Perfect. Tengo hambre. You say this before you eat. Luna: Tengo hambre. Okay. I am saying it right now. I am starving. Lucas: Wait. The bread needs five more minutes. Look at the color. Luna: Is it ready yet? Can I check? Lucas: Patience. When the timer rings, you open the door. And you say... Luna: I say... está listo? Lucas: Yes! Está listo. It means 'it is ready'. Listen: está listo. Luna: Está listo. Es... tá lis... to. Lucas: Excellent. Está listo. You take the bread out. You slice it. Luna: And I pour the soup. Revolver la sopa. Just one last stir. Lucas: Just one last stir. Then you sit down. You have chopped the onions. Luna: Picar las cebollas. Yes. And I baked the bread. Lucas: Hornear el pan. And you are hungry. Luna: Tengo hambre. So much hunger. Lucas: And the food is ready.
