- 1:44Speaker 2: this place. It is Daniel del Prado, who does Martina
- 1:52Speaker 2: and like six great restaurants. Koalita is one of our favorites.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But he has a new Argentinian steakhouse and my manager

- 2:11Speaker 2: card there for Christmas. Lovely and so yeah, we're gonna
- 2:15Speaker 2: rock it out. I'm very excited.
- 2:16Speaker 3: That sounds fun, very cool.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So her birthday present is just as much a present
- 2:21Speaker 2: for me.
- 2:21Speaker 3: YEA, well that's great, that's that's wonderful. That's how it
- 2:24Speaker 3: should be. This is a marriage. What's hers is yours? Yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 3: I think that's what the I was there. I actually
- 2:31Speaker 3: remember what someone said the day of the wedding. I
- 2:33Speaker 3: think exactly. Yeah.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not We did an actual not talk.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Oh god, it was so cute. And then I had
- 2:42Speaker 3: to read that thing and I was just.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Like, I you did great, you did great.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Your sister was like, there's no way that's amember that.
- 2:53Speaker 2: She was like, yeah, nope, nop, not happening.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, oh how lovely? Well, I like you great deal.
- 3:00Speaker 3: But she's the best, So happy bath Data kels.
- 3:02Speaker 2: She's absolutely Yeah, how wonderful. It's fun time.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Have you been watching any films you know?
- 3:09Speaker 2: I have? Thank you for asking God. I had brought
- 3:12Speaker 2: this up when we did our Q and A for
- 3:14Speaker 2: our patrons, but I thought I would talk about it here.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I watched the new controversial film Amelia Perez. Have you
- 3:22Speaker 2: been able to consume it yet?
- 3:24Speaker 3: I haven't seen it. I thought about watching it tonight
- 3:26Speaker 3: and I was just like, not enough time quite so yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I pushed it off.
- 3:31Speaker 2: How is it? Well, it's kind of all over the place.
- 3:36Speaker 2: People feel strongly about this. You can currently watch it
- 3:40Speaker 2: on Netflix if you're interested. It stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and a transactor named Carla Sophia Gascon and it's about
- 3:52Speaker 2: the head of a drug cartel who wants to become
- 3:54Speaker 2: a woman. They then fake their death and become a woman,
- 3:59Speaker 2: and Zoe's done is pretty much forced into making all
- 4:02Speaker 2: of the arrangements. That's how she is involved. Wow, And
- 4:06Speaker 2: then it gets pretty wild and it's wild.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's a cool pitch for a movie that's
- 4:14Speaker 3: super interesting.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I thought the story was actually pretty cool. But the
- 4:20Speaker 2: thing that puts this over the top is that it's
- 4:23Speaker 2: a musical. Oh and the music didn't really do it
- 4:29Speaker 2: for me. That's very difficult if it's a musical. Yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 2: so the songs, like, none of the songs really grab me.
- 4:39Speaker 2: There's not like a show stopper. All of the singers
- 4:43Speaker 2: are pretty average, like not terrible, but not like wow, they're.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Really Cynthia Ribo out there though, that's just like what
- 4:51Speaker 3: exactly exactly?
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, there's none of that. But yeah, it sounds like
- 4:57Speaker 2: the trans community isn't super into it. The Mexican community
- 5:01Speaker 2: isn't it isn't super into it. Yeah, people who love
- 5:05Speaker 2: musicals aren't into it. So it's kind of shocking. It
- 5:10Speaker 2: got thirteen Oscar nominations and everybody's just like why why?
- 5:15Speaker 3: I know, I Like, the only thing I really have
- 5:19Speaker 3: heard about it is everyone's like everyone is panning it
- 5:22Speaker 3: so hard that you know, all these actors that are
- 5:25Speaker 3: included in it are going out and kind of being like,
- 5:27Speaker 3: I don't know what they want from us. This sucks
- 5:29Speaker 3: that we're getting such a bad rap and they're like,
- 5:31Speaker 3: you got nominated for thirteen Oscars. It's not like you're
- 5:35Speaker 3: you know, like yeah, bat and low in the order. Like,
- 5:38Speaker 3: I don't know what to tell you. We can give
- 5:40Speaker 3: criticism of it, and I don't know anything about it.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But I just thought that was really funny to be like,
- 5:46Speaker 3: well what do you want? You know?
- 5:48Speaker 2: Right? But Zoisldania's pretty great and she does get to
- 5:53Speaker 2: show off her voice and she's it. I don't know
- 5:55Speaker 2: if done a lot of that. I hadn't. Yeah, interesting, Yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 2: she's pretty good. I think she won the Golden Globe,
- 6:02Speaker 2: so you know, it's it's worth checking out. Yeah, but
- 6:08Speaker 2: like on IMDb, it's like a five point seven currently rated,
- 6:13Speaker 2: which you know for a movie that's thirteen oscar now
- 6:17Speaker 2: think it's at least in the sevens or something.
- 6:20Speaker 3: But well, I mean, you know, not every movie has
- 6:24Speaker 3: to be for everyone either, So that's cool, right, interesting though,
- 6:28Speaker 3: wile Okay, yeah, cool, I'm pretty crazy.
- 6:29Speaker 2: It's on Netflix. If you're interested.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I will be checking it out at some point for sure.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Okay, well, what have you checked out recently?
- 6:37Speaker 3: I saw a film that you recommended over on the
- 6:40Speaker 3: Hulu machine.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I watched Thelma. Oh tell me what you thought.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I mean, just what a lovely experience this was. You
- 6:50Speaker 3: were totally right. I loved it.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So funny. This movie is so funny.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I loved all the like the stylisation of making it
- 7:00Speaker 3: like an action film.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yes, what these old on.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Never I left every single time at every one of
- 7:12Speaker 3: those like it was so funny. And when they would
- 7:15Speaker 3: do the hearing aid bit where they'd be like, you'll
- 7:17Speaker 3: be with me, like spy stuff, but it's I loved it.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I thought that, like, there was so much joy in
- 7:26Speaker 3: this movie because it it was. It was very sweet
- 7:30Speaker 3: and at point it's like poignant in its own way,
- 7:32Speaker 3: but also like very silly and just lighthearted. And it
- 7:37Speaker 3: was absolutely what I needed. You know. The day I
- 7:40Speaker 3: watched it, I loved it. I thought it was great.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I thought the the gal who you said, June Squib.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Was really great. She was so good.
- 7:49Speaker 3: You're totally right. That Fred Heshinger guy. Very different role
- 7:54Speaker 3: from his Gladiator performance, I.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Know, dude, And I think I saw those movies like Back.
- 8:01Speaker 3: To I remember you saying that that is weird, jarring, jarring.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But Richard Rowntree was a delight in it. He had
- 8:10Speaker 3: a great moment. I mean, he's such a great actor anyway,
- 8:13Speaker 3: But yeah, I just loved everything about it. It was
- 8:17Speaker 3: just so fun, like such a fun idea, very lighthearted,
- 8:20Speaker 3: like I said, and then also like they had all
- 8:23Speaker 3: the pieces of an action flick, like but with the
- 8:26Speaker 3: joke being you know, obviously there. I don't know, I
- 8:30Speaker 3: just really liked it that. It was really really can.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You see why it made my top ten from last year? Absolutely? Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 3: I think if earlier it definitely would have had a chance,
- 8:40Speaker 3: it would have made a runner up at least for sure.
- 8:43Speaker 3: But yeah, I just really I liked it. It was
- 8:45Speaker 3: very charming, very good. It's on Hulu. I didn't recognize
- 8:50Speaker 3: anything this Josh Margolin had really done before. And we
- 8:54Speaker 3: even talked about director writer. Yeah he wrote and directed. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 3: so I look forward to whatever he does next. You know, Like,
- 9:03Speaker 3: I don't know, I really like the vibe of this.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Maybe he never gets it back, but I feel like,
- 9:08Speaker 3: if you do this, you gotta have some other cool
- 9:10Speaker 3: stuff coming, you gotta. Yeah, So it was really fun.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I really liked it so good. I'm so glad wreck budd. Yes,
- 9:18Speaker 3: how about streaming? Have you been streaming anything I have.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I went over to the Apple Machine and I
- 9:25Speaker 2: finished the second season of Silo. Did you finish that? No,
- 9:29Speaker 2: I haven't even started it. You saw the first season though,
- 9:32Speaker 2: right talked about that.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I just have it the second one.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's the same folks. For the most part,
- 9:41Speaker 2: it's a great show. We added Steve's on to this season,
- 9:46Speaker 2: which is always a Plaus's amazing, But I did kind
- 9:51Speaker 2: of feel like this was a season that was like
- 9:54Speaker 2: setting up what's to come a little bit. Sure, all
- 9:58Speaker 2: of Rebecca Ferguson's felt really drawn out until like the
- 10:04Speaker 2: awesome ending of this season. It's it's a I'm excited
- 10:10Speaker 2: to see where they go from here, but I felt
- 10:13Speaker 2: like there was kind of a lot of filler in
- 10:14Speaker 2: this season, if I'm being like super honest. But with
- 10:19Speaker 2: where they ended, I feel like it's gonna get nuts. So, yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 2: that's cool.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I'm excited to watch that. I will have to do that.
- 10:29Speaker 3: How was the accent in year two?
- 10:32Speaker 2: I have kind of just tried to give Yeah, okay,
- 10:36Speaker 2: that's fair. You know. It was like the first like
- 10:38Speaker 2: four or five episodes, I was driving me nuts and
- 10:40Speaker 2: just like I just I like the show. Yeah, I'm
- 10:46Speaker 2: now now I'm more bugged by Common and just how
- 10:51Speaker 2: like everything that comes out of his mouth sounds like
- 10:56Speaker 2: so cool. Just like he's like he's this like cool
- 11:00Speaker 2: rapper and he is just not that in this like
- 11:04Speaker 2: he's supposed to be this kind of like whatever. But
- 11:08Speaker 2: I kind of have a hard time with Common. I
- 11:10Speaker 2: get that he's too cool.
- 11:12Speaker 3: It's just like dripping with gravitas everything, even if he's
- 11:15Speaker 3: bring me a chocolate milk.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Right, It's just like he just sounds like he's gonna
- 11:20Speaker 2: like spit some rhymes like he's he is cool dude.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I like that. That's funny.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Nice, Nice. But that's on Apple. What have you been streaming?
- 11:30Speaker 3: I actually also have an Apple TV Plus recommendation seven
- 11:35Speaker 3: season two. I've been watching Nice. I don't know if
- 11:39Speaker 3: you've checked it out yet. First two episodes okay, cool?
- 11:42Speaker 2: I think I watched three. He was at least three.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Is there three out?
- 11:45Speaker 3: I think I'm caught up anyway, it doesn't matter. A
- 11:49Speaker 3: really fun, really crazy weird show in all the best ways.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Uh yeah, it seems funnier this season to me, Like
- 11:59Speaker 3: they I feel like they they jacked up the funniness
- 12:03Speaker 3: maybe a little bit, which is great.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I feel like it was so long ago when we
- 12:08Speaker 2: saw the first season. How long ago was it?
- 12:10Speaker 3: It was at least a year ago. I actually rewatched
- 12:13Speaker 3: it before I watched this one, so it smart.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I felt a little disconnected because I did not do that.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of I was. Before I started. I
- 12:23Speaker 3: was like, I don't really remember a lot, so I
- 12:27Speaker 3: go back, which was fun. It made it.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It made it fun to come.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Right back into it. So but yeah, it's it's just great.
- 12:34Speaker 3: It's so good. They're all so good, and there's intrigue
- 12:38Speaker 3: and I don't know just all the things.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it was two full years ago. It was, no, no, no,
- 12:44Speaker 2: it was. It came out February twenty twenty two, so
- 12:49Speaker 2: three three years. It was really that long. Yes, yes, boy,
- 12:56Speaker 2: it doesn't seem that long.
- 12:57Speaker 3: But maybe I watched it way late or something.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I watched it. I watched it pretty much in one
- 13:04Speaker 2: day when we were performing in Niagara Falls, I had
- 13:08Speaker 2: this amazing hotel room of overlooking Niagara Falls, and I
- 13:13Speaker 2: was like, Oh, I should really go out and enjoy this. No,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but dude, this show is nut. So I like put
- 13:20Speaker 2: the iPad in the window so I could like see
- 13:24Speaker 2: Niagara Falls and.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Very separency. Actually, so you really worked out.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It was fun. It was fun.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I love that. But yeah, really great show. It's it's
- 13:35Speaker 3: been really fun. Yeah, I feel like you can't really
- 13:37Speaker 3: talk about anything in it because it's all like who
- 13:40Speaker 3: knows what? Is a spoiler not? But it's really fun
- 13:44Speaker 3: and it's one of those shows where like I go
- 13:47Speaker 3: and look at the message boards and I'm like, yep,
- 13:49Speaker 3: I don't know what's happening at all in the best way,
- 13:51Speaker 3: you know.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it kind of feels like Lost or something.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Absolutely there's all this like intrigue around it. But man,
- 13:59Speaker 3: it's shot so wonderfully.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Ben Stiller does a great job.
- 14:04Speaker 3: But episode three, you're gonna love it. It's really I
- 14:07Speaker 3: have watched three for sure because it was nuts. So yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 3: it's a really fun. Go check it out Apple TV.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Plus.

- 16:35Speaker 3: but it'll be great. But we're here tonight to talk
- 16:39Speaker 3: about a wonderful little film, A little film called The
- 16:42Speaker 3: Breakfast Club. Ever heard of that?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yep, me too. We actually knew we were going to
- 16:48Speaker 2: cover this to just watched it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was in the works. But yeah, a
- 16:53Speaker 3: super fun movie from nineteen hundred and eighty five, a
- 16:56Speaker 3: wonderful year because it was also the year that I
- 16:59Speaker 3: came around. So I'm gonna turn forty this year. You
- 17:03Speaker 3: sure are crazy crazy to think about. But we decided
- 17:07Speaker 3: if we're going to cover this movie. We had to
- 17:08Speaker 3: get the guy who who is Obviously he's the babe.
- 17:12Speaker 3: You know, he's the brain, he's the jock, he's the burnout,
- 17:16Speaker 3: he's the I can't.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Remember all what they said, the princess. The princess.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Well, he's definitely the princess.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I mean, of course, but.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Let's give it up.
- 17:24Speaker 2: We got our good buddy abe. What's a babe? Hi?

- 18:40Speaker 2: Here, yeah, hell yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 4: This will be the green room for.
- 18:43Speaker 3: The stage, sure, yeah, which is super fun. Yeah, it's
- 18:48Speaker 3: going to be amazing, and we're gonna do maybe some
- 18:51Speaker 3: stuff with the Abbot endorsement.
- 18:53Speaker 2: We'll see, well, i'll see.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Maybe you have to wait till later to find that out.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I don't knows. We'll see crazy, but.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It'll be super fun. August eight through tenth, timfast music
- 19:03Speaker 3: dot Com.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Go check it out, check it out.
- 19:05Speaker 3: It'll be amazing.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Ape have seen any great movies lately.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I've been watching a lot of anime, actually, so just
- 19:16Speaker 5: last night I caught up on Sakamoto Days on Netflix,
- 19:19Speaker 5: which is excellent.
- 19:20Speaker 4: And I've been really good. Yeah about that.
- 19:24Speaker 5: And then Castlevania the season three just came out as
- 19:27Speaker 5: well there, which my friend Adam up and I we've
- 19:30Speaker 5: watched that religiously.
- 19:31Speaker 4: He's very excited about.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Say, he's obsessed with that. Yeah. And then the other one,
- 19:36Speaker 2: did you watch that arcane show?
- 19:38Speaker 4: I have that saved on my watch list. I haven't
- 19:39Speaker 4: gotten to it yet, but it's.
- 19:41Speaker 3: I don't know if that's anime. I think it's animated anyway,
- 19:43Speaker 3: but I've heard that's really good too.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I think it counts.
- 19:46Speaker 5: And then the final one that I get in there
- 19:47Speaker 5: is a Blue Eyed Samurai, which is maybe my favorite
- 19:50Speaker 5: out of everything so far.
- 19:51Speaker 2: It's really that's incredible.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Not for kids, but it's it's a ride nice.
- 19:57Speaker 3: I love it. We'll go check out some anime.
- 19:59Speaker 2: You kids do it? I love it?
- 20:02Speaker 3: Uh, well, what do you guys to think? Should we
- 20:04Speaker 3: get right into it?
- 20:04Speaker 2: We talk about the Breakfast Club? Breakfast Club forty years old?
- 20:10Speaker 2: Forty man?
- 20:11Speaker 3: That that feels old?
- 20:13Speaker 2: It does? It does? But Rob, will you get it started?
- 20:15Speaker 2: With just a rough SYNOPSI yeah. Five high school students
- 20:21Speaker 2: from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under
- 20:25Speaker 2: a power hungry principle. The disparate group includes rebel John,
- 20:30Speaker 2: Princess Claire, Outcast, Alison, Brainy, Bryan, and Andrew the jock.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Each has a chance to tell his or her story,
- 20:40Speaker 2: making the others see them a little differently, and when
- 20:42Speaker 2: the day ends, they question whether school will ever be
- 20:47Speaker 2: the same. Dun, dun, dun.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Nice. Yeah, I agreed.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Let's go Rotten Tomith. Let's hear what they have to say.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Critics have it's coming in at a rock solid eighty
- 20:58Speaker 3: nine percent.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Eighty nine.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It is high that I liked it, and audience members
- 21:04Speaker 3: are like right there with them, even a scouch above
- 21:07Speaker 3: that at ninety two.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, this is a beloved film.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Beloved indeed, I love it. Those are very high. I
- 21:14Speaker 3: like it. Let's hear what we think. It's time for
- 21:17Speaker 3: our hot take.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Hot take. Oh, ouch, that's a hot take. That's a
- 21:24Speaker 2: hot take. Captain crunch sandwich spicy. Okay. I was like,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I got nothing for this one.
- 21:33Speaker 3: No, I like. I like to think these are proof
- 21:35Speaker 3: that we don't like think.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Of a lady, certainly don't. Yeah, I think they know. Yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 2: I think probably. Let's just get into it.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'll go first. I like this movie quite
- 21:47Speaker 3: a lot. It's not one I watched a lot as
- 21:51Speaker 3: a kid, but I have now seen it several times
- 21:53Speaker 3: as an adult. I think it really plays into that
- 21:57Speaker 3: sort of the angst of just being a teen and
- 22:01Speaker 3: like on the verge of adulthood, not knowing who you are,
- 22:05Speaker 3: but like really wanting to take that next step and
- 22:09Speaker 3: not knowing how to feel about it, and and also
- 22:11Speaker 3: kind of finding your people, which I think is really
- 22:14Speaker 3: important for kids to hear about. And I really like
- 22:17Speaker 3: that this was like right in the heyday of that
- 22:20Speaker 3: that Brat Pack sort of time frame, which is really cool.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Although after watching that documentary they didn't love that name.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I found out I haven't seen that.
- 22:32Speaker 3: It's really good. If either of you are interested in
- 22:35Speaker 3: that the Brat Pack documentary, I think it's just called
- 22:39Speaker 3: the Brats or something. I don't really remember. But it's
- 22:43Speaker 3: really really good. It's super interesting and not it's not
- 22:47Speaker 3: just about their history. It's also about like what's happened
- 22:50Speaker 3: to them since and today and all that good stuff.
- 22:53Speaker 3: It's it's really really cool. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 22:56Speaker 3: don't I don't have like a ton of hot takes
- 22:58Speaker 3: about this movie. I think it's pretty well acted, even
- 23:02Speaker 3: though like I sort of hate some of the characters
- 23:05Speaker 3: at points. I kind of think you're supposed to you. Yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 3: for sure, especially the principle he's a straight dickhead, like
- 23:12Speaker 3: he's the worst man, don't love him. The most well
- 23:17Speaker 3: adjusted person in this movie is the janitor, who, like
- 23:20Speaker 3: everyone looks down on a little bit, which kind of sucks.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But yeah, I just I think this movie's really well done.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It is.
- 23:27Speaker 3: It turns a corner about halfway through and does such
- 23:32Speaker 3: a good job that I really really still enjoy it.
- 23:35Speaker 3: But the first half is a little tough for me
- 23:36Speaker 3: to watch for whatever reason. I don't know if it
- 23:39Speaker 3: just feels stressful or something. Sure, but I think I
- 23:44Speaker 3: don't know. I just that will be evergreen, the like
- 23:47Speaker 3: worrying that we're going to be exactly like our parents
- 23:49Speaker 3: and then you know, finding out like, oh that's actually
- 23:52Speaker 3: not so bad and everyone has a tough time, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 3: like they don't get there in this movie, but that
- 23:58Speaker 3: that part of that journey is really important and it's evergreen.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Like I feel like you could make this movie today,
- 24:05Speaker 3: and you know, like the set pieces would be different,
- 24:08Speaker 3: but the like the gist of it could be exactly
- 24:11Speaker 3: the same, right, And I think that's that's how you know,
- 24:14Speaker 3: you tapped into something important with art, which I think
- 24:16Speaker 3: is cool. But my hottest take nine hours is fing
- 24:21Speaker 3: insane for a detention. That is crazy.
- 24:24Speaker 2: That is.
- 24:26Speaker 3: That's not like a thing that happens, right, because we
- 24:30Speaker 3: had detention and I even got it a couple of times,
- 24:33Speaker 3: sure easily for talking. I know that's surprising to everyone,
- 24:40Speaker 3: but it was like an hour nine hours.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's insane.
- 24:45Speaker 3: This is crazy.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we got.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Some Saturday detentions at my high school. I went one.
- 24:51Speaker 5: I'm trying to remember how long it was, but I
- 24:52Speaker 5: know it was at least like four hours. I want
- 24:54Speaker 5: to say it was like a half an eye to
- 24:56Speaker 5: one or something like that.
- 24:58Speaker 4: But this is a long time ago. You could smoke
- 25:00Speaker 4: cigarettes and bring guns to school, so yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Right, well you could do that when I went to
- 25:06Speaker 3: school too. Yeah, but that's man, that's crazy. That's too.
- 25:11Speaker 3: I just can't imagine teachers would be like, yeah, sure, yes,
- 25:14Speaker 3: I mean screw that. Yeah, but yeah, that's pretty wild.
- 25:19Speaker 2: That was my hottest take, though, I guess hot take
- 25:21Speaker 2: bro hot Hot. This was a movie my sister and
- 25:27Speaker 2: I watched a bunch growing up, probably way before we
- 25:31Speaker 2: really should have been watching it, but whatever. We tended
- 25:35Speaker 2: to watch a lot of older things when we were younger.
- 25:39Speaker 2: This was written and directed by the prolific and amazing
- 25:42Speaker 2: John Hughes. This is now the seventh John Hughes film
- 25:46Speaker 2: we've done an episode on. Really, wow, isn't that crazy
- 25:50Speaker 2: a lot? I know? Damn, I know. It's pretty cool.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Maybe the most iconic opening and ending credits song like
- 26:00Speaker 2: of any movie ever. Absolutely, Like you hear that song
- 26:05Speaker 2: and you just see like the fist up in the air,
- 26:09Speaker 2: like absolutely. I thought it was pretty amazing that they're
- 26:15Speaker 2: able to keep our attention while like ninety percent of
- 26:19Speaker 2: the movie is in this library to school. I thought
- 26:23Speaker 2: the writing was was pretty great in that aspect, and
- 26:26Speaker 2: just the character building was like brilliant, really fun. So
- 26:34Speaker 2: some of this movie is like really moving and dramatic,
- 26:36Speaker 2: and then some of this movie is like over the
- 26:38Speaker 2: top melodramatic and takes me out of it.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of what I was feeling at parts,
- 26:44Speaker 3: especially in the beginning.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I hear. Yeah, but pretty good young actors, some ended
- 26:49Speaker 2: up having bigger careers than others. Super fun to rewatch.
- 26:53Speaker 2: It had been a very long time since I'd seen it.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I got a couple of hot takes. Hot take Elio
- 27:00Speaker 2: Estevez getting all like roided out after he smokes weed
- 27:03Speaker 2: and is like violent dancing.
- 27:05Speaker 3: He was smoking PCP or something, right, like what are
- 27:08Speaker 3: we doing here?
- 27:09Speaker 2: I mean it made me feel just like, had anyone
- 27:12Speaker 2: involved with this film like smoked weed or even heard
- 27:15Speaker 2: about what it's like to be stoned, because it's just
- 27:18Speaker 2: like met to anyone who smoked weed?
- 27:20Speaker 3: What's happening?
- 27:21Speaker 2: Like that was.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Bizarre theydness and went from there.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, so that has always stood out to me.
- 27:29Speaker 2: It's just like, what like because I felt like Anthony
- 27:33Speaker 2: Michael Hall did a really good job, like he seemed
- 27:36Speaker 2: like he was stoned, but then Emilio just went went
- 27:39Speaker 2: for it.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Well he looked like I mean, he was like he
- 27:42Speaker 3: had snorted a lion or something like he went crazy,
- 27:46Speaker 3: you know, like he was in sout.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Yeah. But another hot take, I can't believe that none
- 27:53Speaker 2: of these kids knew each other before this detention, Like
- 27:56Speaker 2: it must be the biggest.
- 27:57Speaker 3: School he was up that that's a good question.
- 28:01Speaker 2: They were all introducing themselves to each other, just like what.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Like, okay, so that's good that you said that. I
- 28:08Speaker 3: came from a tiny school, so I was just like,
- 28:09Speaker 3: maybe this is a real thing.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I went, you know, I had four hundred and seventy
- 28:15Speaker 2: kids in my class and we had tenth, eleventh, and twelfth,
- 28:19Speaker 2: so you know whatever that is like fifteen hundred kids. Yeah,
- 28:22Speaker 2: and like I knew most ever, at least, you know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: I wasn't introducing myself to you know what I mean
- 28:30Speaker 2: like that. That's always kind of been like, what is
- 28:34Speaker 2: this the first day of school? I don't understand.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Also, if there's that many kids, there's only the five
- 28:39Speaker 3: of them that got to tension somehow, like.
- 28:42Speaker 2: You know, yeah, I mean, I guess they're all in
- 28:44Speaker 2: different clicks. Clearly they're not, you know, so maybe that's
- 28:48Speaker 2: how you can get away with it, But that always
- 28:50Speaker 2: seemed a little far fetched to me.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I get that, nice hot take, buddy, Thanks, all right,
- 28:57Speaker 3: what do you got?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:59Speaker 4: I agree with that. I said. I saw this.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Movie at ten years old, I think the first time
- 29:05Speaker 5: I saw it, And for me, it's an example of
- 29:08Speaker 5: the timing of when you first encounter things, and it
- 29:12Speaker 5: really like cracked my head open as far as like,
- 29:15Speaker 5: you know, I had some maybe pre junior high angst
- 29:18Speaker 5: about what it was going to be like.
- 29:20Speaker 4: And so I'm watch studying this movie because it's like, Okay,
- 29:22Speaker 4: I'm going to encounter a bender, an encounter of Claire.
- 29:26Speaker 5: And you know these you know, archetypes, and you know,
- 29:31Speaker 5: I remember the first time watching it was at my
- 29:33Speaker 5: grandmother's house. She had just gotten HBO and so it
- 29:36Speaker 5: was hitting HBO.
- 29:38Speaker 4: My folks are pretty strict.
- 29:39Speaker 5: They weren't supposed to watch rated OAR movies, but because
- 29:41Speaker 5: it was on TV, I don't think they even realized
- 29:44Speaker 5: that that was the case.
- 29:45Speaker 4: So there was this like forbidden fruit aspect to it too.
- 29:49Speaker 5: And it really is probably the ultimate eighties movie for me,
- 29:53Speaker 5: my favorite John Jews movie. It really like is what
- 29:57Speaker 5: I would put in the time capsule for that thing
- 29:59Speaker 5: of that of that era.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And and like you said that that awkwardness of high school.
- 30:06Speaker 5: As I was clicking around like trivia and stuff, I
- 30:08Speaker 5: saw a quote that I wish I had said, but
- 30:10Speaker 5: I'll steal it where it says they want to fit in,
- 30:13Speaker 5: but they don't want to conform. And I think that
- 30:16Speaker 5: really some kids looking for belonging but also rejecting things
- 30:21Speaker 5: at the same time. And so it's it's that really
- 30:24Speaker 5: like helped clear the lens for me as far as
- 30:27Speaker 5: you know, thinking about that too, So that was a
- 30:30Speaker 5: good way to sum it up. I felt like, Yeah,
- 30:33Speaker 5: and like you said, it all takes place placed in
- 30:35Speaker 5: a box essentially, and so you know, the high school
- 30:38Speaker 5: is almost a character that that room and that building
- 30:40Speaker 5: and stuff like that too, And so it makes me
- 30:43Speaker 5: think of like you know, Hitchcock did was life raft,
- 30:47Speaker 5: I think was that movie, whereas as some of those
- 30:48Speaker 5: other famous movies where it's all concealed. The Hateful Eight,
- 30:52Speaker 5: you know, also is another one where's that even the
- 30:56Speaker 5: door keeps slamming in that movie too, and so could
- 31:00Speaker 5: be an homage knowing Tarantino.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's actually a great point.
- 31:03Speaker 4: And that's fun and so yeah, I feel like, yeah,
- 31:08Speaker 4: you have to rely.
- 31:09Speaker 3: So much more on the writing and the characters than
- 31:11Speaker 3: you know in those scenarios.
- 31:13Speaker 2: So yeah, I love that. When those movies work, they're amazing.
- 31:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good testing to use his talent as
- 31:19Speaker 5: far as that kind of a thing, because sometimes the
- 31:22Speaker 5: simple stuff is the hardest.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely love it. Yeah, because this could be a play, right, Yeah,
- 31:29Speaker 3: I look.
- 31:29Speaker 2: At it, need it to be. Yeah, there was a
- 31:32Speaker 2: Broadway play.
- 31:33Speaker 5: There was a Broadway Lane sort of not spoof version
- 31:36Speaker 5: of it like twenty years ago that I just learned
- 31:38Speaker 5: about today.
- 31:39Speaker 3: But cools, that'd be fun. I would watch that for sure.
- 31:44Speaker 3: That's neat, well, hot takes all around. Nice work everybody.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yes, let's go in and do this.
- 31:50Speaker 3: One might be a little tough, but let's go talk
- 31:52Speaker 3: about our favorite acting performance.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Let's name the dude. The dude.
- 31:56Speaker 4: I'm the dude.
- 31:58Speaker 6: So that's what you call me, you know, uh that
- 32:01Speaker 6: or his dudeness or duder or you know, el dud reno.
- 32:06Speaker 6: If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Hey you got.
- 32:10Speaker 5: I don't know if this is just the answer, but
- 32:13Speaker 5: Anthony Michael Hall for me, he's I feel like the
- 32:17Speaker 5: Greek chorus of the movie. It starts out with him
- 32:19Speaker 5: narrating it. He seems to always be half of the
- 32:23Speaker 5: interactions that I really like notice and resonate with me,
- 32:26Speaker 5: and he really just you know, you think of him
- 32:30Speaker 5: as that person I do, you know, and when i's
- 32:33Speaker 5: he's not even acting, which is probably how good of
- 32:35Speaker 5: an acting performance it is, but reminds me of some
- 32:39Speaker 5: of like Jesse Eisenberg's things that he does where it's
- 32:41Speaker 5: just like that's just sure, But I think again, that's
- 32:44Speaker 5: a testament to his performance more than anything.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I love that. I love that. Have you seen the
- 32:52Speaker 2: new Jesse Eisenberg movie, by the way, I just lost
- 32:54Speaker 2: a tangent. Loved it. Yeah, so good. I felt that
- 32:59Speaker 2: way watching I was like, that's just him, that is yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 2: he is just I mean, it takes talent to act
- 33:06Speaker 2: your you know, even if you're just being yourself. But yeah, anyway,
- 33:11Speaker 2: I felt the exact same way. I came in thinking
- 33:14Speaker 2: that I was going to say jud Nelson because that
- 33:17Speaker 2: was kind of just like I always thought he was
- 33:20Speaker 2: so cool and awesome, and on this rewatch, I was
- 33:25Speaker 2: way more into what Anthony Michael Hall was doing. He's
- 33:30Speaker 2: so good in this. He seems like the only one
- 33:33Speaker 2: young enough to actually be in high school out of
- 33:37Speaker 2: all the other kids. Sure, I thought he was very
- 33:40Speaker 2: believable as the nerdy kid who needs to get straight a's.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I already mentioned he was the most believable with like
- 33:47Speaker 2: the weed smoking. He had a heartbreaking story about why
- 33:51Speaker 2: he was in detention, and then it also kind of
- 33:54Speaker 2: turned out to be hilarious too. Yeah, he was by
- 33:58Speaker 2: far my favorite, So I'm with.
- 34:00Speaker 4: You, and yeah, I think Nelson was my one. Be
- 34:03Speaker 4: there too.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Nice, Yeah, I love that. Uh well, this is now
- 34:10Speaker 3: going to seem like I'm just stealing you guys, that's
- 34:11Speaker 3: who I landed on as well. But I, uh for,
- 34:16Speaker 3: like you said, Rob the I thought it was gonna
- 34:18Speaker 3: be Judd Nelson and and he was good, don't get
- 34:21Speaker 3: me wrong, But but I was like, oh man, I'm
- 34:24Speaker 3: really digging this performance by Anthony Michael Hall. I also
- 34:27Speaker 3: loved that he is he's really vulnerable and like he's
- 34:32Speaker 3: really cool in that he is true to himself kind
- 34:35Speaker 3: of the whole time still while also not being what
- 34:39Speaker 3: the cool kid is, you know, because he's like kind
- 34:43Speaker 3: of the peacemaker the whole time, like, hey, guys, maybe
- 34:45Speaker 3: we should just let this go or you know, like
- 34:47Speaker 3: trying to get between these these two you know, kind
- 34:49Speaker 3: of alpha male kind of guys at points. But yeah,
- 34:53Speaker 3: I just thought he was wonderful and then so lovely,
- 34:57Speaker 3: and I found myself rooting for him even more than
- 35:00Speaker 3: any of the rest of them, you.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Know, throughout the whole thing. So yeah, I'm with you,
- 35:04Speaker 2: that's awesome, clean love it.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he's really great. But let's name some of these
- 35:10Speaker 3: other folks. It's time for the tuccid we got for
- 35:16Speaker 3: this one.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Okay, So for the Tucci, I almost felt like everyone
- 35:20Speaker 5: in this film could be a lead except Carl the janitor,
- 35:26Speaker 5: and I couldn't just pick him as much as I
- 35:29Speaker 5: like him.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Too, So I'm going with the statue. The statue is
- 35:35Speaker 4: behind the kids in the library, that big, that ugly
- 35:39Speaker 4: cement thing. It looks like it could be in a beetlejuice. Yes,
- 35:45Speaker 4: you know, it gets it gets hit in the face
- 35:46Speaker 4: or whatever the face like area is with the baloney.
- 35:50Speaker 5: Or the like, and then Bender ends up straddling it's
- 35:56Speaker 5: it's head. Later on, I think he's going to get stoned.
- 35:59Speaker 5: And it's just always, it's always there and so always
- 36:01Speaker 5: kind of looking over them, And I felt like, if
- 36:04Speaker 5: I really wanted to, you know, if I ever smoked
- 36:07Speaker 5: weed and thought about it, it's.
- 36:10Speaker 4: This like it's the future for them.
- 36:12Speaker 5: It's this abstract, a more maybe spooky thing that could
- 36:18Speaker 5: represent like their adulthood, just lurking in the background as
- 36:22Speaker 5: you know, this this thing that they're trying to figure
- 36:25Speaker 5: out and won't it won't ever really.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah. So it's also kind of the elephant in the room, right,
- 36:31Speaker 3: like of this domineering thing.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, and acknowledge necessarily, but always there.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, that's really cool. I love it. That's awesome.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Rate pick. I didn't have that one down, you definitely not.
- 36:43Speaker 4: I didn't see it in the credits. I couldn't. I
- 36:45Speaker 4: couldn't properly give it a name.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I did see that John Hughes was somebody's dad, Brian. Yeah,
- 36:56Speaker 2: that was kind of fun. I never knew that. Yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 2: so mine's not as fun as apes. I was just
- 37:02Speaker 2: gonna say Judd Nelson. I just always thought he was
- 37:07Speaker 2: the funniest and coolest when I was younger. He kind
- 37:10Speaker 2: of sucks, though, like as I've grown up, just kind
- 37:14Speaker 2: of a bully. He had a crappy home life, kind
- 37:18Speaker 2: of taking it out on everybody else, enjoyed messing with
- 37:22Speaker 2: other people's feelings. Not cool. And one thing that always
- 37:26Speaker 2: bugged me was that Molly Ringwald ended up with him,
- 37:30Speaker 2: and it was just like girls, they never like the
- 37:36Speaker 2: nice guys, and I was always bummed out about that.
- 37:39Speaker 2: They like the cool guys that they can fix, and
- 37:42Speaker 2: that just always wished they were more into Brian.
- 37:47Speaker 3: I know, I found myself even being like, maybe she
- 37:50Speaker 3: does end up maybe I don't remember. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 3: that's funny. Well, that's a great one. I'll shout out
- 37:59Speaker 3: Molly Ringwald. I had a huge crush on her when
- 38:03Speaker 3: I was a kid.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Out Redhead started do you think.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I think, if we're honest with ourselves, it was April
- 38:11Speaker 3: O'Neil that maybe Jessica Rabbit, but certainly Molly Ringwald is
- 38:17Speaker 3: in the pantheon for sure.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Or yeah, fun Yeah, there's a lot.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Of Redheads actually know that. I'm thinking about it. Yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 3: way too many of them are animated, and I don't
- 38:31Speaker 3: want to get into it right now, just kidding, But
- 38:35Speaker 3: I thought Molly Ringwold was was pretty good in this movie.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I thought that like the sushi thing was great, you know,
- 38:41Speaker 3: all the all the stuff. She was really believable and
- 38:44Speaker 3: also believable in that even if she is super popular,
- 38:49Speaker 3: she's still going to be like self conscious and everything.
- 38:51Speaker 3: You know. I think we've we've learned that as we
- 38:54Speaker 3: age about most people at some point or another field
- 38:57Speaker 3: that way to some extent. So also Paul Gleeson, like
- 39:02Speaker 3: he he does such a good job being a dickhead,
- 39:05Speaker 3: but I to actively hate him in this movie.
- 39:08Speaker 2: He it's one of those whenever he pops up like
- 39:10Speaker 2: he's a pretty good character actor, and whenever he pops
- 39:12Speaker 2: up in something, I can only see him as this character.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Oh I am the opposite. He will always be Clarence
- 39:19Speaker 3: speaks to me from trading places.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I get that, but I think I.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Saw that first. So that's probably why.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I still see him talking about cracking skulls in this
- 39:30Speaker 2: every time. Every time.
- 39:32Speaker 3: I will never respect an adult either that like it
- 39:35Speaker 3: thinks they're tough by threatening a child, Like it's just
- 39:39Speaker 3: they're seventeen or eight. I understand, right, and like whatever,
- 39:42Speaker 3: but I just think that's such a that's so.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I make thirty one thousand dollars a year and I
- 39:50Speaker 2: don't know how I own a house. It made me
- 39:53Speaker 2: feel it was kind of like the the Will Ferrell
- 39:56Speaker 2: sketch when he is just kind of yelling and he's
- 39:58Speaker 2: just I drive a odd stratus. Yes, it is kind
- 40:02Speaker 2: of the same thing.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Oh man. Yeah, I did love that. I was like,
- 40:08Speaker 3: why is that not a gift that I'm sending all
- 40:10Speaker 3: the time?
- 40:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 40:16Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, I mean he did a good job, right,
- 40:18Speaker 3: because he's probably not. I hope he's not that big
- 40:20Speaker 3: a prick in real life. But I just those principles,
- 40:24Speaker 3: you know, give people a little bit of power and
- 40:26Speaker 3: they'll domineer over people, just like the worst.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, he.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Did a good job. And the other person, Emilio Astavez,
- 40:35Speaker 3: he was pretty.
- 40:37Speaker 2: I liked him.
- 40:37Speaker 3: I like him a lot. I can kind of see
- 40:39Speaker 3: why people thought he was going to be a huge
- 40:42Speaker 3: deal and he was very successful, but I don't think
- 40:45Speaker 3: he ever like lived up to the giant deal status
- 40:48Speaker 3: that he was sort of saddled with. Maybe is what
- 40:51Speaker 3: he would say.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, aside from that weed smoking thing that was
- 40:57Speaker 2: so ridiculous.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that was weird, But that's not his fault. I
- 41:00Speaker 3: doubt maybe it is.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I don't know, but he had some good scenes in
- 41:05Speaker 2: this for sure. That just that kind of role doesn't
- 41:10Speaker 2: do a ton for me, just the character itself. You
- 41:14Speaker 2: didn't do a ton for me, But I thought he
- 41:16Speaker 2: did it well.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I get that. Anybody else have any other runners up?
- 41:22Speaker 3: I guess there's not that many more people.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Ali Shety, Ali Sheety. She was super weird and she,
- 41:29Speaker 2: like you know, grows on you throughout the throughout the movie.
- 41:33Speaker 2: It always super gross to me. Out that Dan drous
- 41:36Speaker 2: scene always really Yeah, gave.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Me the they never talked about she mixed this beautiful drawing,
- 41:44Speaker 3: but like it's incredible.
- 41:46Speaker 2: But that's immediately gross with the dand it was the snow.
- 41:51Speaker 3: It was It's not my taste in art, but it was.
- 41:54Speaker 3: It was a choice. It was a choice.
- 41:57Speaker 4: That's I think where I get my crush on Goth
- 42:00Speaker 4: was seeing her.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Yeah hell yeah, sure.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I like the before, not the after, for sure.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Right for sure? Yeah? Yeah, nice, that's fun.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I like that. So she's such a weirdo, Like I
- 42:16Speaker 3: don't know, I still don't know what is true because
- 42:19Speaker 3: what she also lying about, she didn't have detention.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I don't know. Sure, yeah whos Yeah, that's fun. But
- 42:28Speaker 2: that was kind of everybody I wrote down. It was
- 42:32Speaker 2: kind of fun seeing Emilio's dad. His name is Ron Dean,
- 42:36Speaker 2: and that actor he always plays like a cop from Chicago.
- 42:40Speaker 2: So he's like in The Fugitive, which I always loved,
- 42:43Speaker 2: and anyway, he pops up in that kind of stuff.
- 42:46Speaker 3: You love the future.
- 42:47Speaker 2: I do love the Futureive I saw it roughly a
- 42:49Speaker 2: thousand times.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I don't care. Sorry, I have to say it every time.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I'm obligated. I don't know what you guys want from me.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Well, why don't we move on. Let's let's go and
- 42:59Speaker 2: pick our favorite scene, and let's choose the dingus. So
- 43:05Speaker 2: it's quite simple, really, Dingus, Dingus.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I could talk about my dingus all night long. This one.
- 43:12Speaker 4: I chose the lunch scene when they're all having lunch.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I did do. That's crazy. There's so many scenes, crazy crazy, So.
- 43:22Speaker 5: You know, everyone their lunch represents them obviously in that
- 43:26Speaker 5: architect and you know, I got Emilia's got the three sandwiches,
- 43:30Speaker 5: Claire has the sushi, Brian has exactly.
- 43:34Speaker 4: What you to assume.
- 43:35Speaker 5: And then but I think what really made that for
- 43:38Speaker 5: me is is Bender because that's when he first kind
- 43:42Speaker 5: of breaks down. You know, he shows the scar from
- 43:45Speaker 5: the cigar and then he kind of runs up up
- 43:47Speaker 5: the stairs and goes into fetal position. But it it's
- 43:51Speaker 5: that vulnerability that kind of cascades to each of the
- 43:54Speaker 5: other characters. But I believe that's the first one that
- 43:57Speaker 5: that breaks, it kind of cracks, and it's being just
- 44:00Speaker 5: that that archetype of you know what, is he the
- 44:03Speaker 5: bad guy at the criminal or whatever, And so I
- 44:06Speaker 5: think that's a real turning point in the movie. But
- 44:09Speaker 5: it's it's also just kind of fun to see what
- 44:11Speaker 5: the next person's going to pull out of.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Their bag, and you know, yeah, yeah, picksie stick sandwich, which.
- 44:15Speaker 5: I've never quite tried, but I'm surprised I'm saying that
- 44:18Speaker 5: I haven't.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that is, I would have. I would have. I
- 44:24Speaker 2: can't crunch on a sandwich.
- 44:25Speaker 3: That's interesting.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Yeah, man, it just like makes my cheeks hurt thinking
- 44:30Speaker 2: about it. I felt like it would always just hurt
- 44:33Speaker 2: the crap out of my mouth. Oh that's hilarious, because
- 44:37Speaker 2: I mean, there's so many scenes in this, but that
- 44:40Speaker 2: was the one that I picked as well for all
- 44:42Speaker 2: the reasons you said. The next is just the narration
- 44:47Speaker 2: of the letter and the ending fist bump is just
- 44:49Speaker 2: so iconic, wonderful, and if I had to take another one,
- 44:55Speaker 2: I wrote down three more. But I always loved how
- 44:59Speaker 2: Ridiculus us the running around the school montage, like them
- 45:04Speaker 2: seeing the principal and then sliding and run to the place,
- 45:10Speaker 2: and it's all with this like super eighties tune in
- 45:12Speaker 2: the background, And yeah, I always kind of loved that.
- 45:18Speaker 4: A few times I called Christine from the other room.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Is like you go to see how perfect this is?
- 45:22Speaker 2: You know it is?
- 45:24Speaker 3: That is very eighties.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Oh everything happening there? Yeah, yeah, he pig time.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I love that.
- 45:32Speaker 2: I love that. Guys.
- 45:33Speaker 3: I picked the lunch scene too. That's so funny, So
- 45:35Speaker 3: I guess that's our dingus. It's the I realized on
- 45:40Speaker 3: this rewatch that I'm other than the athletic talent. I'm
- 45:43Speaker 3: the athlete. So that's fun because I also would have
- 45:47Speaker 3: brought the entire grocery bag of food. That was so great.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I love that bit so much. But yeah, I just
- 45:53Speaker 3: I thought the whole scene was super super fun. Like
- 45:56Speaker 3: you said, it gets real and then you know, each
- 45:59Speaker 3: of their meals is so interesting, and I bet in
- 46:02Speaker 3: eighty five like the sushi must have felt, especially like
- 46:06Speaker 3: in the Midwest must have felt like, oh this chick
- 46:09Speaker 3: is rich, you know, like right, and you know, I
- 46:12Speaker 3: don't know that. I don't think I would have known
- 46:15Speaker 3: about that then anyway, but I really really liked that
- 46:19Speaker 3: a lot. And then I loved the well, this is
- 46:24Speaker 3: gonna sound bad now, but it's when Emilia is having
- 46:27Speaker 3: his whole what he tells him I did that Larry
- 46:31Speaker 3: Lester's buns together and all that, which is funny, and
- 46:34Speaker 3: also said the part that really got me that I
- 46:37Speaker 3: had sort of forgot about was Brian being like that
- 46:41Speaker 3: was you? And I felt like I felt like Brian
- 46:45Speaker 3: like that was his buddy, and he was like you
- 46:48Speaker 3: son of a you know, like a little bit like yeah,
- 46:51Speaker 3: I know him, He's my really good friend, and that
- 46:54Speaker 3: you know, like really upper you know whatever it was
- 46:56Speaker 3: gonna be. We never get that, but I felt like
- 46:59Speaker 3: that was you, was what that was saying. And I
- 47:02Speaker 3: just I thought was so great, and I thought Amelia
- 47:05Speaker 3: was wonderful in that scene, and it was you know,
- 47:08Speaker 3: talking about how bad he felt about it, and the
- 47:12Speaker 3: sort of like grander theme, right of like passing on
- 47:15Speaker 3: our you know, like our our trauma to kids or
- 47:19Speaker 3: to other people or whatever, and the way we affect
- 47:22Speaker 3: those around us. I just I really liked that scene
- 47:24Speaker 3: a lot. It's not the most fun scene in the world,
- 47:28Speaker 3: but I think right after that is also when we
- 47:30Speaker 3: hear Brian talk about his stuff, right and then, and
- 47:33Speaker 3: I love that they go out of that by laughing
- 47:35Speaker 3: at him, you know.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Like that.
- 47:37Speaker 3: It's just it's it's so relatable because it is serious
- 47:41Speaker 3: and it's sad and terrible, but it is also like
- 47:45Speaker 3: we got it, you know, I don't know I thought
- 47:47Speaker 3: that Levity was really great, So I loved both both
- 47:50Speaker 3: those scenes of Ton Yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Same, that was another one that I wrote down as well.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Nice.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and the only the I mean, there's so many
- 48:00Speaker 2: scenes in this, But another way I put down was
- 48:02Speaker 2: just when Bender takes the screw out of the door
- 48:05Speaker 2: and then they kind of all cover for him.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that was fun.
- 48:09Speaker 2: I did like, Okay, so they're like looking out for
- 48:13Speaker 2: each other. Why are they doing that? Like it's pretty
- 48:16Speaker 2: early on, you know, So yeah, I thought that was
- 48:19Speaker 2: kind of fun.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Yeah, they just naturally will sort of tribe up when
- 48:24Speaker 5: the grown ups are around. Yeah, right, they will unite
- 48:27Speaker 5: against that no matter how they feel about each other otherwise. Right,
- 48:32Speaker 5: and you know, you can put his head between Claire's
- 48:35Speaker 5: legs and she'll cover for it.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Because yeah, I didn't like that part. That really was like, yeah,
- 48:41Speaker 3: that's not cool. Man, thought it was the eighties. What
- 48:44Speaker 3: are you? What are you going to do?
- 48:46Speaker 2: Yeah? For sure, Well cool, the dingus has been chosen.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Unless you guys are talking about any more scenes.
- 48:53Speaker 5: Little one that that really made me this time, the
- 48:56Speaker 5: basketball scene. It's I love how it's shot and how
- 49:01Speaker 5: it's acted. I also love that, like we're saying Bender
- 49:03Speaker 5: is covering for these people that he ostensibly hates.
- 49:06Speaker 4: At that point in the movie, but again.
- 49:09Speaker 5: It's better to keep them safe away from the principal.
- 49:12Speaker 5: But you know, the fake throws of the basketball and
- 49:16Speaker 5: then rolling it town and then getting kicked back, and
- 49:18Speaker 5: the jumping out of his shoe. I mean, there's there's
- 49:20Speaker 5: so much like kind of physical stuff that I really
- 49:22Speaker 5: enjoy about that. How it's a wide shot, almost like
- 49:25Speaker 5: you're just in the corner of the gym watching it.
- 49:27Speaker 5: I think that was a very different little part.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Of the movie than everything else too.
- 49:34Speaker 2: I always loved how he said, I'm thinking of trying
- 49:36Speaker 2: out for a scholarsh shit. Yeah. I always loved how he.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Sam Yeah, yeah, I love that. Yeah, I love that.
- 49:43Speaker 3: I was just gonna say I liked that because we've
- 49:47Speaker 3: seen him act this way towards authority the whole movie
- 49:50Speaker 3: and anyone around him. But knowing that there was like
- 49:53Speaker 3: a deeper meaning because he was covering for them really
- 49:56Speaker 3: was a fun It made me be like, Okay, was
- 49:59Speaker 3: there other point It's where he was doing something like
- 50:01Speaker 3: that that we don't, you know, a deeper meaning.
- 50:04Speaker 4: He was using his skill set of being a dick
- 50:06Speaker 4: to help out.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, totally, totally. I loved that. I also really
- 50:11Speaker 3: liked the whistling scene. Really cracked me up. It's like
- 50:14Speaker 3: a super dumb but up.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know why. It's the bridge on the river. Kwai.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Okay, that's what it's. I know, And obviously yeah we can't.
- 50:28Speaker 3: We'll get that through the room. Yeah totally. I just
- 50:37Speaker 3: thought that was fun and very like levity eighties movie stuff,
- 50:42Speaker 3: which I like.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Nice.
- 50:44Speaker 3: That was all the ones I had.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Awesome, Well, let's go and talk about some of these
- 50:49Speaker 2: quotes and let show me the money, show me the money,
- 50:55Speaker 2: show me.
- 50:59Speaker 3: What he got are quote sabe.
- 51:02Speaker 5: So I scan through dozens and dozens and there's lots
- 51:06Speaker 5: of great I mean, the whole movie.
- 51:08Speaker 4: I feel like it's a great quote in some ways.
- 51:10Speaker 5: But I landed on I landed on Carl h Janitor,
- 51:14Speaker 5: Carl saying to Principal Dick, come on, vern, the kids
- 51:19Speaker 5: haven't changed, you have, you know, And it's that timeless
- 51:24Speaker 5: you know, teenage or whatever, you know, defying yourself. And
- 51:27Speaker 5: now he's frustrated because he's not them anymore, and he
- 51:29Speaker 5: wants them to conform, and they're fighting against them, and
- 51:31Speaker 5: it's something that will happen in every generation, and it's
- 51:34Speaker 5: silly for him to think that he's special essentially.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, dude, love that.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Uh you've changed. Yeah, that's so great. Do you have
- 51:46Speaker 3: any other ones? Right off the bat?
- 51:48Speaker 5: The other one that I liked a lot is when
- 51:51Speaker 5: they're talking about their parents and Bender asks Emilio's character
- 51:59Speaker 5: if he gets on his parents and he correctly catches
- 52:02Speaker 5: them to does a trap you the way? If I
- 52:03Speaker 5: say yes and this, I say, yeah, that's right, idiot,
- 52:07Speaker 5: And so Bender says the quote is you're an idiot anyway,
- 52:10Speaker 5: but if you say you get along with your parents,
- 52:12Speaker 5: you're a liar too. And so I think that's, you know,
- 52:16Speaker 5: again reflecting some of those universal.
- 52:17Speaker 4: Truths in this movie of you know, you're lying if.
- 52:22Speaker 5: You because you're either fake getting along with them or
- 52:24Speaker 5: you're really not and you're saying you are.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Yeah right, that's great. Oh yeah, those are deeper than
- 52:33Speaker 2: I was gonna say. Molay really pumps my nads. Yeah really, Yeah.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I love his work. I love how he goes in
- 52:43Speaker 2: this work. You're a neo MAXI zoom dweebee. That's impressive.
- 52:52Speaker 4: That was improvised too, I found out I saw that too.
- 52:55Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a peak eighties. Like I said, anytime I
- 53:02Speaker 2: see that actor Paul Gleeson, the next time I have
- 53:05Speaker 2: to come in here, I'm cracking skull.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Yeah, what's his other one? He know is the don't
- 53:12Speaker 3: mess with the bull, young man, You'll get the horns.
- 53:15Speaker 2: The horns. Yeah, such a good This one made me
- 53:22Speaker 2: laugh this time, and I don't think I even remembered it.
- 53:24Speaker 2: But what do you need a fake ID for? So
- 53:26Speaker 2: I can vote?
- 53:27Speaker 3: So I can vote?
- 53:30Speaker 2: I loved that, which I believe.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Was also improvised.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I think I saw that in the Tribu, which I love. That.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Does Barry Manilow know that he raided his wardrobe? Was
- 53:41Speaker 2: really great, really good. I felt like some of the
- 53:44Speaker 2: things it was just how they said it, like the
- 53:46Speaker 2: scholars ship and.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Then the scholarship.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Hey, how Commandrew gets to get up? If he gets up,
- 53:52Speaker 2: we'll all get up. It'll be anarchy. He does that. Uh,
- 54:00Speaker 2: what if you're home? What if your family? What if
- 54:02Speaker 2: you're dope? Was on fire? Impossible, sir. It's in Johnson's
- 54:07Speaker 2: underwear fats too, when he says that he's just like cool, Yeah,
- 54:11Speaker 2: it's like you really said it? Still, why did you
- 54:14Speaker 2: do that? And then the last one, I'll say it
- 54:18Speaker 2: makes me think of my sister. My sister would always
- 54:20Speaker 2: quote this this whole thing, the son, Yeah dad, how
- 54:25Speaker 2: was your day? Son? Great dad? How's yours? Super? Say?
- 54:31Speaker 2: How would you like to go fishing this weekend? Great dad?
- 54:35Speaker 2: But I got homework to do. That's okay, son, you
- 54:39Speaker 2: can do it on the boat. Gee hone, isn't our
- 54:44Speaker 2: son swell? Yes, dear, isn't life swell? My sister would
- 54:50Speaker 2: do that all the time. So shout out to Jen.
- 54:54Speaker 3: She picks the weirdest quotes she does.
- 54:57Speaker 2: I love it. It's great, wonderful. I love that up us.
- 55:04Speaker 3: I have a bunch of jud ones. He's like, they're
- 55:08Speaker 3: talking about the screw that fell out, and he's like, well,
- 55:10Speaker 3: I don't have it, sir.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Screws follow out all the time.
- 55:13Speaker 3: The world is an imperfect place, just like what a
- 55:17Speaker 3: dick in the best way. Also, when he's like can
- 55:22Speaker 3: you hear this? Do you need me to turn it
- 55:24Speaker 3: up as he's flicking them off or whatever, that's pretty good.
- 55:28Speaker 3: I didn't remember that, but I liked it. The two
- 55:31Speaker 3: hits me hitting you, you hitting the floor. I didn't
- 55:36Speaker 3: know that was I don't know was it?
- 55:39Speaker 2: I think I don't know.
- 55:41Speaker 3: I've definitely heard that a bunch, but yeah, I don't know.
- 55:44Speaker 3: It made me think. Maybe it did. Also when they
- 55:47Speaker 3: go get the weed from his locker and Brian's just.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Like drugs, drugs, He's got marijuana.
- 55:53Speaker 3: That was marijuana, and then he like looks to there
- 55:56Speaker 3: and he's like.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Do you approve of this? Yeah? He says that to Ali.
- 56:02Speaker 3: He's just so funny in that scene. It's so so great.
- 56:05Speaker 3: I love it.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 56:09Speaker 3: Are you manically frigid or is it psychological? That was
- 56:14Speaker 3: really fun. And then I did not remember this one,
- 56:18Speaker 3: but you know what you said? It's jud talking to
- 56:21Speaker 3: uh oh, I can't think of her name right now.
- 56:25Speaker 2: Ringwold, Yes, the Ringworld.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Yes, uh they're talking and he's like, you know what
- 56:30Speaker 3: you said before about how your parents use you to
- 56:32Speaker 3: get back at each other. Wouldn't I be outstanding in
- 56:36Speaker 3: that capacity?
- 56:39Speaker 2: Line?
- 56:40Speaker 3: Yeah, cracked me up. I was like, yeah, there's the
- 56:43Speaker 3: teenage boy, we all know him.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Love. Was it just me? Or did he seem like
- 56:49Speaker 2: he had flunked a bunch? He seems so much older
- 56:52Speaker 2: than every way older, a little grace. Yes, yeah, like
- 56:57Speaker 2: what I got going on right there? But you know, yeah,
- 57:02Speaker 2: he did not look like a high schooler to me
- 57:04Speaker 2: at all anyway.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred agree with that for sure.
- 57:09Speaker 2: One more.
- 57:11Speaker 5: Yeah, Emil, you're saying I've seen her dehydrated.
- 57:14Speaker 4: It's pretty gross.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty gross. I have a really little tolerance
- 57:19Speaker 2: for dehydrating. That's good.
- 57:21Speaker 3: That is great.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Another one I liked when they have the lunch out.
- 57:26Speaker 2: He's like, well, Brian, this is a very nutritious lunch.
- 57:29Speaker 2: All the food groups are represented. Did your mom marry
- 57:32Speaker 2: mister Rogers? H No, mister Johnson, I did love that one.
- 57:41Speaker 3: No, mister Johnson.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Nice. Anybody else want to say any others?
- 57:46Speaker 4: We covered mine?
- 57:47Speaker 2: Yeah? I think, well let's go to bugs boohoo. Moments
- 57:53Speaker 2: the crying game. I decided to pick three. I feel
- 57:57Speaker 2: like there could be more, and who knows, maybe there's less,
- 58:01Speaker 2: but I picked three. The first one I said was,
- 58:07Speaker 2: it's kind of when the principal's going after Bender and
- 58:10Speaker 2: he says, you want to see something funny, go visit
- 58:13Speaker 2: John Bender in five years, and then that kind of
- 58:17Speaker 2: leads into him going into the closet area having to
- 58:23Speaker 2: and then like really gets in his face. I felt
- 58:26Speaker 2: like maybe there might have been a tear.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that got me, mostly because I thought he did
- 58:31Speaker 3: a good job acting there he's really afraid he's going
- 58:34Speaker 3: to beat out of him.
- 58:35Speaker 2: And that was when it was.
- 58:37Speaker 3: One of the one of the well, it was like
- 58:39Speaker 3: the first time in the movie for sure that we're like, oh,
- 58:42Speaker 3: maybe he is being truthful about you know, his parents
- 58:47Speaker 3: and his dad and whatever like, not that we didn't
- 58:50Speaker 3: believe him before, but it was like, oh maybe you know,
- 58:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 58:54Speaker 4: That really was a light bulb and you can see
- 58:55Speaker 4: it stern emotions in him probably.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, totally totally, and that brashness like goes away,
- 59:02Speaker 3: right and.
- 59:03Speaker 2: He's scared, yeah, vulnerable.
- 59:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that got me for sure.
- 59:07Speaker 2: I thought maybe the Emilio crying about taping that dude's
- 59:11Speaker 2: butt cheeks together, absolutely, which is a funny premise initially
- 59:16Speaker 2: press Yeah.
- 59:18Speaker 3: But Brian really got me, Like that was you like,
- 59:21Speaker 3: oh sad, well.
- 59:22Speaker 2: But then when he's like crying about just talking about
- 59:25Speaker 2: how humiliated he must have felt having to tell his
- 59:28Speaker 2: dad about it, Yes, that was really cool. And then yeah,
- 59:34Speaker 2: then the next one the Anthony Michael Hall crying about
- 59:36Speaker 2: needing to be perfect and the reason why he was
- 59:40Speaker 2: in attention. Yeah, yep, yeah, so yeah, and I don't
- 59:45Speaker 2: think you cried it like the kissing from either one
- 59:48Speaker 2: of them. Now, So I'm gonna stick with three, Abe,
- 59:52Speaker 2: Do you think there is any other ones?
- 59:54Speaker 5: I had three the first two you mentioned, and then
- 59:57Speaker 5: when Emilio was talking to Ali, it's the end like
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: post pot smoking and she's talking about how the family
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: he ignores her. But it got me a little bit,
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: like seeing him not being his father that journey and
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: him wanting to talk.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: He can see she's upset.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: He wants to basically not be the jock at that point,
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: and he's becoming his own person, and you can see
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: him caring about her, which like the jock is not
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: supposed to do. And so seeing those walls come down,
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: come down like that got me a bit, and so
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: I figured it had to gotten bugs.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: It did.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Yeah, smart, smart.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: And specifically like uh yeah, just like you said, like
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: he doesn't necessarily have the tools, but he wants to,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: you know, he's got the want to to figure it out.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: And I think that's really reliable, relatable.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: I wrote down the last three lines of that where
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: he says she says her parents ignore her.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: He says, what do they do to you? They ignore me?
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: And then he just says a really quiet yeah, like
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: him too maybe, or like they ignore me the real.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yep, like they're and they're all just kind of saying
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: it right, Like they don't see me, they.
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: Don't write, they're not those separate things.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: I love that.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Uh, that was all of them.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Thanks for the assistance, Yeah, nailed it.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Good job boys.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Well, then let's hit some movie trivia then movie trivia.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: So there was a ton of this so I only
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: picked a few, but it's still quite a few. So
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: if I missed any good ones, let me know. But
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: the scene in which all the characters sit in a
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: circle on the floor in the library and tell the
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: stories about why they're in attention, that wasn't scripted. Writer
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: and director John Hughes told them all to add lib
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: So that's pretty wild.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: That's nuts.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: It's like my favorite scene and you know, other than
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: lunching obviously, but it's such a fun scene. That's cool.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: I don't know, I love it.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: John Hughes said his biggest regret about the film was
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: using the breaking glass effect during the marijuana scene and
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: even the beginning of the movie that was weird.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: So like the Bowie quote and then the shattering.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Yeah right right, it's just kind of strange, but also
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: very eighties, So what are you gonna do? Apparently, Judd
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Nelson's stating character even off camera, bullying Molly Ringwalald a
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: lot of the time too, and John Hughes nearly fired
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: him over it, but Paul Gleeson came to Nelson's defense
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: and said he was a good actor. He was just
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: trying to get into character. So I don't know. That
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: kind of sucks.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: But she was only fifteen at the time too shooting it.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Wow, whoa, she was fifteen? Yeah, wow, that's crazy. I
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: still thought she looked older than Brian. Wow, that's crazy.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: So yeah, that's interesting. In twenty ten, Molly ring Wald
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: and Anthony Michael Hall told Vanity Fair magazine that John
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Hughes was receptive to the actors improvisations, and some of them,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: including this so I can vote and the other things
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: we already talked about, made it into the final film.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: So that's just kind of cool. I like that, very
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: like he's very collaborative, which is super cool because he
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: didn't need to be. You know, he was on such
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: a heater for so long that like, I don't know
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: that he would have had to be. But pretty fun.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: But oh, Jed Nelson improvised the part at the closing
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: of the film where he raises his hand in defiance.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: So wild because like you said, that's such an iconic
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: you know, big picture and song and you know it's just.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: As big as like the boombox over the head, you
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: know what I.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: Mean, Yes, absolutely, movie poster.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: But yeah, so they they like went through a bunch
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: of different things and he I think that was the
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: last one he tried, you know, to just and they
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: were like, yep, we like it, we love that. So
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: that was kind of neat. I always think this is
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: interesting because I sort of always think it's this way,
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: But this film was shot in sequence, just because I
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: think it'd be weird to shoot a film out of sequence.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: But it's cool that they did it. So that's kind
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: of fun. And I guess if you're going to add
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: lib you kind of need to just in case it
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: to fix things down the line. Maybe. John Hughes wrote
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: the screenplay for this movie in two days. It was
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: July fourth and fifth of nineteen eighty two, and he
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: was like, crazy.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Don I'll just have him ad lib that scene. I
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: don't write it. I'll put him. I'll tell him what
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: to do, kind of like what the premise is. I
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: can just go Yeah, nice.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Benders. Flinch when Vernon fakes a punch was genuine. Judd
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: Nelson really thought he was going to hit him. So
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: that's intense.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: That's a different time. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: According to Molly Ringwald, Claire was originally scripted as having
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: pasta salad for lunch, but Ali Sheedy suggested to John
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: Hughes that she eats sushi, which was considered a luxury
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: food at the time and maybe still is. I don't
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: know how those things work.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: According also to Molly Ringwald, that's just the same one.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: I wrote it twice. Good job by me.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: I I love pasta salad. You know this about me.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Judd Nelson went undercover at a local high school outside
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: of Chicago when they were when they were shooting this film,
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: he convinced teenagers that he was a legitimate student. He
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: bought them beer with his quote unquote fake id because
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: he was twenty four at the time apparently, so we
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: know that. So that's not great. And then later had
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: them drop him off at a hotel where he was
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: staying and years later he would reminisce on this and
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: be like, Yeah, I just told them my dad was
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: in jail and that's why I was at the West
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: and O'Hair, Well, my dad was incarcerated.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Weird.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: That's a real weird story.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: They were pretty drunk, so they believed them.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Yeah, these kids, I bought booze for interesting.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Ah, so that's something.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: Anthony Michael Hall's actual mother and younger sister were the
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: two people that were playing them in the beginning of
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: the film, so that's fun. Those are actual family members,
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: which is neat. I thought this was great. The clothes
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: that Jed Nelson is wearing are the ones that he
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: auditioned for the role with, so that's just his outfit.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: I guess that's cool, kind of weird and fun.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: And in the beginning of the movie, there's different shots
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: of the school hallways and classrooms that are shown and
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: you can see like the flare gun, the locker that's
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: like burnt out from the Lairer gun and all that.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: That's in there, but there's also a picture of a
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: former Schrmer High School student Man of the Year, and
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: the man in that picture is Carl Reid, who the
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: janitor Carl, which I thought was kind of interesting. I
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: didn't catch that obviously, but it was oh no, no,
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: I didn't. I guess I was maybe not paying attention
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: yet or something.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, I didn't I catch it.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I was like, oh, that guy looks really familiar. And
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: then when he came in that wow, yeah, that's why.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Yeah. And then I'll just say my last one that
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: I have is a lot of people thought that his
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: dad was the janitor. Brian's dad was the janitor at
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: first when they saw this, and then they were like,
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: why does he have this relationship with him? And I
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: read some trivia that I think maybe even Hughes said it,
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: but it was because Brian would often spend time alone
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: in the library studying, and so he just got to
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: know the janitor and they were pals. I thought that
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: was kind of cool, cool because even says goodbye to
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: him as their.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Lead, right, you know.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: I just thought that was neat.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: That was neat.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: That was all the trivia I had did you have
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: some pal?
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I did? John Hughes said getting the film greenlit by
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Universal wasn't easy because the executives complained there were no
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: bare breasts, no party scene, no guys drinking beer or
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: other things they thought a teenage picture needed at that time. Wow,
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: which I just thought different experiences right, true? I just
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: thought that was an interesting sentence to read. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: John Cusack auditioned several times for Bender, even traveling between
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Chicago and LA before being cast. However, John Hughes went
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: in a different direction, dropped Cusack in favor of Judd Nelson,
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: which was heavily influenced by the casting director. Wild Yeah,
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: done it right, Oh, he could have totally nice. Kisag
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: was awesome.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: He's great.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Yeah. And the theme song Don't You Forget About Me
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: was written for the film by Keith Forcey. It was
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: a number one hit for Simple Minds, but pretty cool.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: It was made for the movie's wild Yeah yeah, Abe.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Did you have any other things? Trivia?
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: Wise?
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: I do have one more that I wrote down in
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: addition to the improvised stuff that Bukes talked about. John
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: Singleton reviewed it for his high school paper in LA
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: and said it really made an impact on him and
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: quote gave him the template.
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: For boys in the hood. Wow, that was that jumped.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Out of me.
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: It was something I had really assumed. And he even
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: made the comment, He's like, I didn't care they're all
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: white kids. It was like there was some some real
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: things there that I really liked about.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: You know, that kind of things.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I don't know how common knowledge it was,
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: but also just kind of clicking into John Hughes's Wikipedia page,
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: I didn't realize that he had written National Lampoon's Vacation
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: is like one of his first industry things, And so that.
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Kind of got him on the Hollywood radar.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: And there was some like two pitcher deal where he
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: was going to make Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club,
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: but he had to make Pretty and Pink first because
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: that was like the easier sell, and then then this
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: one was already ready to go, but it had to
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: be second.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Okay, cool, cool, nice, that's grace, very cool.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh go ahead, did you have one more?
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: And just just also jumped out that he was still
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: in his thirties.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: He was born in nineteen fifty, so he didn't turn
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: forty until nineteen ninety Joyes so kind of impressively young
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: for such a big eighties career.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Yes, dude, wild he was putting out so much stuff.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: He was writing so much that like other people would
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: have to direct just so he could like keep getting
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: everything out. Yeah, it was nuts. Yeah, that's that's impressive.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: It was super impressive. That's nice. Well, Judgment Day. Will
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: there be a sequel? Yeah, there was trivia about this.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Did you see the trivia about a rep? I did?
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, I wrote it.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: The Last Club.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Yeah. The Originally it was suggested that there was gonna
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: be several sequels to this movie occurring every ten years,
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: where they would get back together.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: And it didn't.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: It didn't happen because apparently John Hughes and John Nelson
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: didn't get along super well. It was pretty volatile their relationship.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: And then I think also Molly Ringwald and him also
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: didn't get along super well.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: Well, John Hughes isn't around anymore. All those actors are
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: star around, Like, they could absolutely do a little Brunch
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Club parents. That'd be great, it'd be interesting. I'd be
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: interested in seeing that. But yeah, I feel like all
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: of them are still acting, all of them.
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, while like, I haven't seen jud Nelson in like
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: a real thing in a very long time. But but
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: he's around he Oh dude, he's working all the time.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I just don't see any of the things he does
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: or he'll do like an episode on some network show
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: or whatever. Totally, but I'd be in. I'd watch it.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: I'm surprised they didn't like get together during the pandemic
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: like so many other things. Did you know? Yeah, that's
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: that would have been a good opportunity.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: But I just had something pump in my head. Was
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: was it Judd Nelson who was the like in Airheads?
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: The I saw that guy.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: He wasn't the record guy, but he was something else. Well,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: the main record guy was Joe Montaigna.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Jimmy Wing, the guy who was like signs them
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: to their deal. This is just clicking for me. I
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: didn't realize that was even him. That's crazy.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: Anyway, Sorry, do.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: You guys want to play a game? Yeah? I made Yeah,
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: I made a starting five and that's where I name
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: my five favorite actors from a film. When you know
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: the film, you're going to ring in with your name.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: If you get it wrong, there won't be any negative points.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: You won't be able to guess again for that movie. However,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: if there actors' names are many, you can guess those
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: for a point each, and the other person can steal
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: if you get any of those names wrong. And all
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: of these films have something in common. When you know
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: the theme, you can ring in at any time for
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: a point. Fun. I know you guys have played this
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: a few times, so let's just get into it. Number one.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: The first name is kurtwood Smith. The second name is
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Josh Charles. The third name is Robert Sean Leonard. But
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: the fourth name.

- 1:13:56Speaker 2: You'd know all three of those people. You just don't
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: know their names Ethan Hawke. Okay. And the fifth and
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: final name is Robin Williams.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Five four three yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: Is it Dead Poet Society? It is Dead Poets Society.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: I was like, captain, my captain, what is this movie?
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: You were there though, Abe, you got it.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: I couldn't heard the name of the movie. Yeah, I
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: was like, captain, my captain, what is it?
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: Yeah? Brain part ye. So kurtwood Smith was like the
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: dad in that seventy show. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he's
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: that guy and he was like in RoboCop and stuff.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Nice, Yeah, he's been in a bunch actually, yeah.

- 1:15:44Speaker 2: I mean I would have guessed that as well.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: I figures one of two, so I had to take
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: a swing at it ahead.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I forgot that he was in this movie until
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I looked at the cast. What's the other one? I know,
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: you know this movie, but it might take, it might
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: take till the end, Kareambar. So now it's just Bukes
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: on this now. The second name is Craig T. Nelson.

- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I got it? The theme? What's the theme? They're all
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: like a part of a group.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: So a club, a society, a league, a.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Troop that's exactly like a social club kind of thing
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: or whatever. It's all like synonyms for club, fun, good job.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: That's a good yeah. So yeah, here we go with
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: that in mind. Here's the number four.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Robert Pattinson. The second name is Brendan Gleason. The third
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: name is Rupert Grint, bugs what to do it? Harry
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Potter and the Goblet of Fire? That is incorrect? Damn it?
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Which one is it?

- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Pattinson was only in a couple.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: So well that's tricky because it's also a flashback that
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: he's in.
