- 3:34>> some guys will pay for that.
- 3:35>> I got a story.
- 3:36>> Probably Loie. Actually,
- 3:37>> I got [laughter] a story.
- 3:39>> Loie wants me to get a divorce so he can
- 3:41take Kate. Just so you [laughter] know.
- 3:43>> That's awesome. You say it to me all the

- 4:11about my bachelor dinner. The one you
- 4:12you didn't show up to. Um, no. Uh, no.
- 4:15in spirit. [laughter]
- 4:16>> No, he really wasn't.
- 4:17>> Thank you, Twister.
- 4:18>> The best part is I saw him like two days
- 4:20before and he was planning, "Oh, we're
- 4:22going to do we're do this." Oh, yeah.
- 4:23And then he didn't show up. But anyways,
- 4:24it's fine. It's fine. I'm not My
- 4:26feelings aren't hurt.
- 4:26>> Oh, hold on.
- 4:27>> It doesn't sound like [laughter]
- 4:30>> Did you orgasm while he was fluffing
- 4:33you?
- 4:33>> I mean,
- 4:35>> uh, no. He's not very good at it.
- 4:36>> Okay. So,
- 4:37>> and the whole purpose of the fluffing is
- 4:38not to orgasm, right?
- 4:39>> Just to stay, you know, ready.
- 4:41>> Sometimes he can't help himself.
- 4:42>> Yeah, it's it's a good point. He does
- 4:44get aggressive. this long to fly off the
- 4:46[ __ ] shells.
- 4:48>> Listen to this. Twister arrives and um
- 4:52he he he arrived. He came and u so Kevin
- 4:55is sitting there and first thing Tony
- 4:58does is he's walking past there's like a
- 4:59little fence area. He picks up a rock
- 5:02and like throws it through and hits our
- 5:04guy Kevin in the back. And like some
- 5:06people don't like some of the guys who
- 5:08who the hell [laughter] is this [ __ ]
- 5:09guy? What just happened? You know, it's
- 5:11just Tony being Tony. So, we laugh about
- 5:12that and then Kevin's standing there and
- 5:15uh Tony comes in.
- 5:16>> Hold on. Stick came out like he was
- 5:18Strick came peakedked his head around to
- 5:20see to see
- 5:21>> Oh, Steve Strick. I was going to say
- 5:23>> no. Steve Strick put peaked his head
- 5:24around to see who's throwing that.
- 5:26>> Yeah, he Yeah, Ninja.
- 5:27>> The Ninja.
- 5:30But, [clears throat] uh, so he comes up
- 5:32and I tell Kev, I tell Kevin, I go,
- 5:33"Hey, Kev, get your phone ready to video
- 5:36something." I go over to Tony. I go,
- 5:37"Hey, Tony." I go, there's three Blues
- 5:40players, young players that are there.
- 5:43>> Do we name them or not?
- 5:44>> Oh, absolutely. They're eating dinner.
- 5:46>> You're a Is there the young check
- 5:47defenseman? Daborski and a third guy. I
- 5:50apologize. I don't remember.
- 5:51>> I think it was a trainer. What was he?
- 5:53>> It was like some strength coach or
- 5:54something. Anyways, they have a fourth
- 5:56chair that's empty and they're already
- 5:58eating. And I go to him, I go, "Oh no."
- 6:00>> Hey, Twister, go over there.
- 6:02>> And just sit down, start talking to
- 6:04them, and then start eating off their
- 6:06plate.
- 6:06>> Oh. [laughter]
- 6:08Dude,
- 6:09>> no. It's unreal. So
- 6:10>> that is so unfair to ask you to do that
- 6:13cuz you would love to do that like that.
- 6:16You're like, I can't believe I didn't
- 6:17think about it. It was incredible. He
- 6:19comes walking up, you know, the twister
- 6:21walk and he pulls a chair. Bam. Sits up.
- 6:23Boom. He's like, hey boys, HOW YOU
- 6:25DOING? YEAH. AND THEY'RE LIKE,
- 6:27[laughter]
- 6:28>> NO AT THIS TIME who I am.
- 6:30>> Yeah. No idea. Then he's like he's like
- 6:32talking. He like looks away. He reaches
- 6:34over onto D'vorski's plate, takes a
- 6:36piece of steak.
- 6:37>> No, no. I TOOK HIS KNIFE AND FORK AND
- 6:39CUT [laughter] THE STEAK. I I literally
- 6:41took the fork almost out of his hand and
- 6:44I'm cutting the steak
- 6:45>> and I take a bite. Well, that's damn
- 6:47good. You guys made a HELL OF A CHOICE.
- 6:50LIKE A really good work. And I said,
- 6:52"Man, I got to go to the restroom. You
- 6:53guys have a great evening."
- 6:54>> No, you you did say that. But here's the
- 6:56best part. You see D'Vorski, he's like
- 6:57looking like kind of like, "Okay." And
- 6:59he's like he's like, "Who the hell is
- 7:03this guy?" He's getting angry, but he's
- 7:04looking over like I don't know if I want
- 7:06the smoke, you know. And so
- 7:09>> Twister gets up and walks straight over
- 7:11to Sunquist and takes Sunny's baby. And
- 7:14so like rocking THE [laughter] SO NOW,
- 7:16>> NOW HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S COMPLETELY
- 7:18INSANE.
- 7:18>> Oh my god. I got this story from a
- 7:22teacher in Illinois. Two days later, Big
- 7:24D was telling me the story playbyplay
- 7:26how you were going to do it. And I was
- 7:27like, how did you know about this?
- 7:29>> I go over to the table after and I go,
- 7:32"Hey, boys." voice. I go, you know that
- 7:33I go, that was a I'm laughing. I go,
- 7:35that was a blues alumni, Tony twist and
- 7:37divorce. He goes, OH, HE'S LIKE, YEAH, I
- 7:40DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THAT WAS, [laughter]
- 7:42>> what that animal was.
- 7:43>> You're a check goes, all I see is the
- 7:45big hands.
- 7:47[laughter]
- 7:48>> He said, these big hands. And I'll tell
- 7:50you what, those those three guys,
- 7:53especially the two players, were
- 7:54astounding. Like awesome. They're really
- 7:57like DVO was amazing. My point is that
- 8:00>> I was telling these are stories that are
- 8:03no longer being created in this today
- 8:06and age. I mean it doesn't take much
- 8:08just that story because that's a story
- 8:10you can carry to for for years right
- 8:13>> they're going to carry that for those
- 8:15>> I'm going to tell that story
- 8:17was there Sunny was there and Broberg
- 8:20was there they were laughing so you know
- 8:21they're going to recycle that story too
- 8:23[laughter]
- 8:23>> and those are great those
- 8:26cool things and they have no idea that
- 8:28the toughest guy ever to play in the NHL
- 8:31has just sat down and ate the steak off
- 8:33their plate and they don't know what to
- 8:34do you know but think of you stood up
- 8:36and started
- 8:38>> like blues fans are crazy.
- 8:40>> No, no, no. He was god damn [laughter]
- 8:42creat.
- 8:43>> Put yourself in that situation cuz we're
- 8:45pretty like I'd say stand up guys. Like
- 8:48if some dude just sat down I'd be like I
- 8:50don't know what I do cuz now I'm like
- 8:52okay there's so many people here. If I
- 8:54grabbed this guy, you know, he could
- 8:56just say, "Oh, I I sat at the wrong
- 8:58table by accident."
- 8:58>> Jamie, we would have been weirded out
- 9:00like no other.
- 9:01>> Yeah, but what would you do?
- 9:02>> Yeah, but it sounded like they had a
- 9:03bunch of guys there, which is good. The
- 9:04team's bonding. I kind of like that too.
- 9:06Seven guys. Six guys were there.
- 9:08>> That's cool. That's a good start.
- 9:09>> It was great. And they had their babies.
- 9:11There'll be 20 next right down the road.
- 9:13>> Sunny had their babies there.
- 9:15>> Yeah, that's awesome.
- 9:15>> I was like midnight. Sunny sitting there
- 9:17at midnight like
- 9:20rocking the baby.
- 9:21>> How would you react if [clears throat]
- 9:23you were
- 9:24>> I know how he would react
- 9:27when you were doing your thing.
- 9:29>> That's where No, no, no, no. You're
- 9:31sitting there and some guy come that you
- 9:33didn't know
- 9:34>> and he takes your like what would you
- 9:36do?
- 9:36>> Grab I would grab the fork that my buddy
- 9:38has and I'd stab him in the throat.
- 9:40>> See that's what I'm saying. I thought
- 9:41you hand
- 9:43that was before camera phones. Uh like
- 9:46now if you do this like he wouldn't do
- 9:49that now.
- 9:49>> No no no. I would actually underneath
- 9:52the table I'd lean over and say
- 9:53something sticking to the balls.
- 9:54[laughter]
- 9:56>> That's more likely.
- 9:57>> Right.
- 9:58>> Correct. You could. That would be a
- 10:00weird idea.
- 10:01>> That's epic. I cannot First off, great.
- 10:03That's a great That's a good [laughter]
- 10:04job.
- 10:05>> Good job, Jamie, on that. That's really,
- 10:07really good.
- 10:08>> Full uh camera credit to our guy, Kevin.
- 10:11>> That's great.
- 10:11>> He actually still has footage. Is there
- 10:14footage?
- 10:14>> There is footage. You have footage.
- 10:16>> He's got the footage on his camera.
- 10:19>> I've got the footage. He sent it in.
- 10:20>> We'll post it up. [cough and laughter]
- 10:22>> Oh, yeah.
- 10:22>> He sent it to all of us.
- 10:24>> So, we Oh, that's [ __ ] hilarious,
- 10:25dude.
- 10:34carpet downstairs.
- 10:50>> He's eating this food.
- 10:54>> MY HUSBAND
- 11:01HE AIN'T WORRIED.
- 11:07>> There was so much,
- 11:11>> you know, it's just different now, man.
- 11:13Like you go out like you're always
- 11:15thinking somebody's like recording you
- 11:17and they are everywhere you go. Somebody
- 11:19is everybody any anything you do
- 11:21>> and they're so fast like so
- 11:22>> I don't even know how they're so fast
- 11:23like and scary.
- 11:25>> What about the meta glasses?
- 11:26>> That's crazy.
- 11:29>> My a pair of those ridiculous.
- 11:32>> Conor's got a pair of those.
- 11:33>> The con dog.
- 11:34>> I got the shades.
- 11:35>> Oh, Jamie's got the shades.
- 11:37>> You guys got to understand in today's
- 11:39day and age, it's not just the phone.
- 11:41It's everywhere you go. You got door
- 11:43ringers. You got cameras up in every
- 11:45building, every parking lot. Anybody who
- 11:48drives by who has a a camera in their
- 11:51car for for insurance purposes or
- 11:54recording,
- 11:55>> you are always on call. So the the the
- 11:59availability of doing some of the the
- 12:01shenanigans, the antics that were
- 12:03pulled, it's just not happening anymore
- 12:05>> in Russia. And you probably know this,
- 12:06Jamie, cuz you died over there.
- 12:08>> Spent a little time there.
- 12:10>> Jamie died again. [laughter] Not a big
- 12:12>> hide his money.
- 12:14But there is like an insurance fraud
- 12:16where they they all have cameras now
- 12:18because somebody will come cut across
- 12:20and slam their brakes on. You [ __ ]
- 12:21hit them. They get out like
- 12:23>> people will jump out in front of a car
- 12:25crawling under cars.
- 12:26>> Subie sitting here thinking that's a
- 12:28great idea. I'm going to do that today.
- 12:30>> People crawling under cars. [laughter]
- 12:32>> Can we uh let's just if we're speaking
- 12:35if we're talking about Russia,
- 12:37>> can we talk about how you got paid in
- 12:39Russia?
- 12:40>> Yeah. I would love to invite this
- 12:42because
- 12:44>> that's a whole episode.
- 12:45>> It is a hundred stories.
- 12:47>> They're going to tell one story
- 12:49everybody, but there's going to be a
- 12:50followup. We'll probably talk this the a
- 12:53section, but when uh when Ribs was
- 12:55playing in uh in the K1,
- 12:58>> it was a super league at the time.
- 13:00>> Super super league. It was It was a
- 13:02super league. I think you're one of two
- 13:04English guys or you the only one that
- 13:06the only guy who spoke English
- 13:07>> the only guy that speaks English and he
- 13:08did not have a household. He lived in
- 13:10the bottom of the rink. That was where
- 13:12the homestead is.
- 13:14>> And God, they don't charge rent for
- 13:16that.
- 13:16>> No.
- 13:16>> Oh, no. No. There is rent, but it's not
- 13:18paid in monetary weather. So, imagine
- 13:22this. How do we get paid here? We get a
- 13:24check, we go to the bank, we cash it.
- 13:26That's not how it happens in Russia.
- 13:28Now, all the ancillary things that go
- 13:31with when you get paid is very
- 13:33interesting.
- 13:34>> Knock knock.
- 13:36>> Yeah.
- 13:36>> At what time is this? I'm knocking.
- 13:39Well, okay. So,
- 13:40>> Bagman.
- 13:40>> Yeah, the Bagman. Um, so when I signed
- 13:45there, I had it in the agreement just to
- 13:47show up. They were going to give me a
- 13:49bonus ju because I knew that some of
- 13:52these teams didn't always end up paying
- 13:54all of the paychecks for the guys. So, I
- 13:57had my agent write it in there like when
- 14:00he shows up, when you physically see
- 14:02this man, you're going to give him, you
- 14:04know, x amount of dollars. Boom. So, I
- 14:07was like, okay, I'm comfortable with
- 14:08that. It's front-loaded, you know,
- 14:10great. I'm good with that. But then
- 14:12there was another player that was there
- 14:14before. We'll keep him nameless because
- 14:15I haven't talked to him and I don't know
- 14:17if he wants to be on this, but whatever.
- 14:19He was there the year before and uh he
- 14:21reached out to me, this very team, and
- 14:24he says, "Uh, hey man, I'm just going to
- 14:26give you a heads up." He goes, "They're
- 14:28going to put you in this apartment or
- 14:31this room at the rink." And the
- 14:34>> Now, where where's the rink located?
- 14:36It's well it's a suburb of Moscow.
- 14:38Sakol.
- 14:39>> Is there a park nearby?
- 14:40>> Yeah, it's a beautiful.
- 14:42>> Yeah. It's called dog park.
- 14:45>> Green grass everywhere.
- 14:46>> The wild dogs like crazy. To hear them
- 14:48attacking things at night is wild. Like
- 14:50people too. Um but that's another story
- 14:53for another time. So I'm sitting there
- 14:55talking to this guy and he says, "Hey,
- 14:57look what they're going to do is they're
- 14:59never going to tell you what time
- 15:00practice is. They're going to send this
- 15:01guy to knock on your door." I'm like,
- 15:03"Why?" He goes, "Because they don't want
- 15:05you going out anywhere. They want you to
- 15:06be a prisoner, basically. Like, so
- 15:08you're not leaving the rink." So he
- 15:11goes, "You're going to they're going to
- 15:12pay you and then you're going to leave
- 15:15the bag. You're going to take it down to
- 15:16the locker room with you or you're going
- 15:18to leave it in this little apartment and
- 15:19they're going to steal the money back."
- 15:21He goes, "So what I did," he goes,
- 15:23"There's a fiberglass shower in this
- 15:25thing." He goes, "Pull the top down
- 15:27hard." He goes, "I cut a hole in the
- 15:29ceiling." He goes, "You can put your
- 15:31money up there and it goes it springs
- 15:32back and it like hides the money." So he
- 15:35says, "Just find a reason to go back to
- 15:38your apartment and put the money in." So
- 15:41I'm like, "Okay, thanks for the heads
- 15:43up, man. Appreciate it." So sure as [ __ ]
- 15:45the next morning.
- 15:46>> Well, you got you got to tell them how
- 15:48you got paid to first of all.
- 15:49>> Well, this is it. I'm telling you right
- 15:50now. All right.
- 15:51>> And so [clears throat]
- 15:53this guy comes up and I open there's two
- 15:56doors.
- 15:57>> What time is it?
- 15:58>> Like 9:00 a.m.
- 15:59>> Okay. And uh he goes, "You training
- 16:03training was practice." I'm like, "Oh,
- 16:05okay. Yeah, yeah." So I just close the
- 16:07doors and I follow this guy. Oh, no. He
- 16:09hands me the bag. It's a bag, a plastic
- 16:11bag, a skin care bag. Full of money.
- 16:15Like full of money. Like it was a big
- 16:17number, too. And I'm like, "Oh, thank
- 16:19you." And um I put it inside the
- 16:22apartment. And then I follow this guy
- 16:24down the hallway. And then halfway down
- 16:26the hallway, I go, "Oh, forgot my
- 16:28shoes." I'm like pointing to like I got
- 16:30I forgot my shoes. He's like
- 16:33like hurry up, you know, like okay,
- 16:34great.
- 16:35>> So I run back into the apartment.
- 16:37>> I take the bag. I go to the shower, pull
- 16:39it down, there's the hole money up
- 16:41there, hide the money, grab my tennis
- 16:43shoes, and I go off to practice with
- 16:46this guy. Practice or training gets
- 16:49done. And when I go back to my
- 16:51apartment, my stuff is everywhere. They
- 16:53went through the apartment trying to
- 16:55find the money to steal it back because
- 16:56what am I going to say?
- 16:59>> What are you going to sue them? Right.
- 17:00>> What are you going to do? No rules.
- 17:01>> There's no rules. And so,
- 17:03>> and who are they?
- 17:04>> Well,
- 17:07there's a lot of mafia involved. Okay.
- 17:09>> Uh, let's just put it that way. I don't
- 17:11want to get killed even to this day
- 17:13because they're still they're around.
- 17:15But so, every month he would pay me and
- 17:18I'd have to hide the money. And so at
- 17:21the same time though, they're watching
- 17:22you every day. They had a guy, an army
- 17:25guy at the rink. They said he was there
- 17:27to protect the rink. Who the hell
- 17:28protects a rink? He was there to make
- 17:30sure to keep an eye on me. You know, s
- 17:32>> I had a similar thing, but keep going.
- 17:34>> And um so I I've got like two or three
- 17:37months worth of paychecks now up in my
- 17:39ceiling, which at this point I don't
- 17:42know what the [ __ ] am I going to do? So
- 17:44I have to make friends with this army
- 17:46guy somehow. He doesn't speak English. I
- 17:49don't speak Russian. I'm learning a
- 17:50little bit of like the basics.
- 17:52>> I bet you his name's Eigor.
- 17:53>> No, it was uh
- 17:54>> Slava.
- 17:55>> It was Sergey.
- 17:56>> No, it was Costa.
- 17:58>> Okay.
- 17:58>> Anyways, I go down there and uh the one
- 18:01night or the one day I got out and I
- 18:03went and bought a huge thing of vodka
- 18:05and I bought playing cards and I came
- 18:07down there at like 11 p.m. at night and
- 18:09I go bam on the table with the cards and
- 18:13he's like I'm like in English. I'm like,
- 18:17I don't know what the [ __ ] to say to
- 18:18you. You don't know. I But we're here
- 18:20alone all the time. Let's be friends.
- 18:22>> Like, we got to figure this out.
- 18:24>> So, the first game we played was like
- 18:26the match game. Like four or five year
- 18:27old games. Like you put all the cards
- 18:29out, got to [laughter] find the two that
- 18:31match AND WE'RE PLAYING THIS AND WE'RE
- 18:33DRINKING vodka the whole time.
- 18:34>> What's that game called?
- 18:35>> I don't know. It's like match game, I
- 18:37think.
- 18:37>> I guess.
- 18:38>> I don't know.
- 18:38>> Uno.
- 18:40>> No, you flip them all upside down.
- 18:42And if you flip a two,
- 18:43>> YOU DON'T KNOW [laughter] EITHER.
- 18:44>> IF YOU FLIP A TWO, you got to find
- 18:46another two. So it's like the memory
- 18:47game almost.
- 18:48>> Yeah, memory. That's what it's called.
- 18:50Not match donkey.
- 18:51>> Oh, sorry. Wait.
- 18:52>> I KNOW. LIKE [laughter]
- 18:53WHY YOU SO NEGATIVE?
- 18:54>> I'm not
- 18:56having fun.
- 18:57>> Can I not have fun? Like when I'm stop
- 18:59I'm supposed to stop making fun of you
- 19:01guys?
- 19:01>> No. No. Forget about that. Can't do
- 19:03that. You're so good at it. Keep going.
- 19:05Um, [laughter]
- 19:07>> so we play this game and we're drinking
- 19:09Vodk and we get hammered. I find out,
- 19:11you know, he's teaching me some Russian.
- 19:12I'm teaching him some basic English.
- 19:14He's got a son that plays hockey, but he
- 19:17doesn't have good, his skates don't fit
- 19:19him, you know, and all this stuff. So, I
- 19:21get on the phone and talk to a guy back
- 19:24here, and I'm like, "Hey, send me this
- 19:26size skates, this DHL. You got to go to
- 19:28DHL." The only one that'll like ship it
- 19:30from the US to uh Moscow at the time. I
- 19:33get a huge package to the rink. It's
- 19:36gloves, skates, a helmet, and a couple
- 19:38of sticks for his son. So, I take that
- 19:41down one night for him and I'd tell him
- 19:43like it's for your son, you know, and he
- 19:44was like almost crying. After that, I
- 19:47knew this guy's like he'd take a bullet
- 19:49for me. And so, I had enough balls and
- 19:51finally say to him like, I come down the
- 19:53one night, no vodka, no playing cards.
- 19:56He's like looking at me like, "Who are
- 19:57you? Where's my vodka?" And I had this
- 20:00big duffel bag and I put it on the the
- 20:02table and I unzip it and it's full of
- 20:04cash. And he's like I go I need I go you
- 20:08got to banka banka he's like the like I
- 20:10got to go to the bank and he's like okay
- 20:11and he's like you know tomorrow
- 20:13basically so
- 20:16yeah
- 20:16>> he goes um so after practice the next
- 20:18day I go get my bag and he's like
- 20:20looking at me like game face like let's
- 20:22go
- 20:22>> he walks me down the street with his
- 20:24machine gun
- 20:26>> no [ __ ] right into the bank of Moscow
- 20:28with a machine gun
- 20:30>> an AK or a machine gun
- 20:32>> like a machine gun I don't know what the
- 20:33[ __ ] [laughter] it is Cam I'm not a gun
- 20:35expert.
- 20:36>> All I know is if he pulls the trigger,
- 20:38it's shooting both.
- 20:39>> It goes bang.
- 20:40>> Yeah. So, we go into the bank and then
- 20:43he goes right up to somebody and he gets
- 20:45a manager and they take me into this
- 20:46private room. He comes right into the
- 20:48room with with the gun and she creates
- 20:51an account for me so it can go from the
- 20:53Bank of Moscow to a bank in New York and
- 20:56then the bank in New York I can get
- 20:58their number and then I can move it over
- 20:59to St. Louis. But without this guy like
- 21:02it was I'd be screwed.
- 21:03>> That sucks though. How could anybody
- 21:04want to even sign there if you're
- 21:06American?
- 21:06>> It's changed now. From what I
- 21:08understand, a lot of the team pretty
- 21:10good now,
- 21:12>> but this was primitive time.
- 21:13>> What years?
- 21:14>> 2000,
- 21:14>> which is one year. Uh 2008. Yeah.
- 21:17>> It's not that long ago.
- 21:18>> 2000, I think.
- 21:20>> It was even more.
- 21:21>> You and Gag Sean Gagnon, you guys
- 21:23probably some of you fought them. I
- 21:25fought
- 21:25>> him. We played him one time, you
- 21:26modified.
- 21:27>> I fought him.
- 21:28>> So, we were roommates. We went over
- 21:29there together and it was kind of the
- 21:31same thing, but we didn't get paid at
- 21:33all. So then we're like,
- 21:34>> "What do you mean you didn't get paid at
- 21:35all?"
- 21:36>> So horrible.
- 21:36>> So payday would come up and then be
- 21:38like, "All right, this has really been
- 21:39really tough. Three three times working
- 21:41on a day." Like, "All right, it's
- 21:42payday. Where's paycheck?" Zapra.
- 21:45>> And I'm like, "Zap, what's
- 21:47>> day love? [laughter] Zo."
- 21:50>> Then they're like, "Okay, tomorrow.
- 21:51Okay, come back tomorrow." Next day,
- 21:53Zapra. And then the next day, Zapa.
- 21:55Zapra. I was like, "Holy [ __ ] this is
- 21:57not going good."
- 21:58>> Then the whole thing broke down and
- 22:00we're like, "All right, [snorts] we're
- 22:01out of here. We're leaving."
- 22:02>> So then they kind of settle up and kind
- 22:04of talked to my agent, but you can't
- 22:06really talk to people back in the States
- 22:07>> like, "Oh, we're going to pay you, but
- 22:09you're you're leaving. All right, thank
- 22:10God. We're going to go [clears throat]
- 22:11home and have some money." So I get in,
- 22:13we're having a meeting, and I'm sitting
- 22:15here like this with the owners, and
- 22:17they're tough looking guys. The door
- 22:19opens up. Not the hand lotion bag, but a
- 22:22foot locker bag came in. I was like,
- 22:23"What's going on here?" dumping it out
- 22:26on the table. I was like, "Thank God."
- 22:29And I stood up and they're bound
- 22:31$10,000, crisp, not even been used. And
- 22:33I'm shoving them in my pocket. And I'm
- 22:35looking over at these two guys. Didn't
- 22:37look like this right now. They want to
- 22:38kill me. And [laughter] I'm like, I am
- 22:40not getting out of this country.
- 22:43>> Just shoveling in my coat and they're
- 22:44like staring at me like pissed off. So
- 22:47then they do the same thing with Gagen.
- 22:50And uh then we go home and they're going
- 22:51on a road trip cuz we're going home. And
- 22:53we didn't leave the apartment which was
- 22:55the baza the base
- 22:56>> the barracks basically
- 22:57>> for which had dogs were patrolled around
- 23:00to the wall [laughter]
- 23:01was either to keep people out or keep us
- 23:03in.
- 23:03>> Right.
- 23:04>> Then we didn't leave for like 3 days. We
- 23:05just sat on the money and then we left
- 23:07and came home. It was which was another
- 23:09crazy story because they own the airport
- 23:11too.
- 23:12>> Yeah.
- 23:12>> So we get to the airport and we're
- 23:13supposed to be there for the whole year.
- 23:15I got hockey sticks. I got bags. I got
- 23:17clothes. I got like six or seven bags.
- 23:20>> They're like, "$500 a bag." I'm like,
- 23:22"Uh, no, no, not 500. We're going to
- 23:25we're going to stay." They're like,
- 23:26"Fine, you're going to stay." So then
- 23:27the clocks tick and the the plane's
- 23:29about to take off. They're like, "Get
- 23:30your [ __ ] and get out of here." We're
- 23:32like, "Thank God." So we get on we get
- 23:34out of Nishnikoms. Then we get to
- 23:36Moscow. Moscow has two airports,
- 23:39international and domestic. We got to
- 23:41get from one airport to the other. We
- 23:42both have so much stuff we're in
- 23:43different taxi cabs. So, we have to go
- 23:46and uh we get there and the cabby's like
- 23:49$200. I was like, "Say what?" [laughter]
- 23:55And I got all this money in my in my
- 23:57bag. And I'm like, "No, no." So then I
- 23:59go into Aeraflot, which is like their
- 24:01American airlines,
- 24:02>> man.
- 24:03>> And I'm like, "Hey man, I'm going to New
- 24:04York." The guy's like, "Okay, welcome to
- 24:05check in." Kind of like that. The cabbie
- 24:08pushes me out of the way. He starts
- 24:10yelling at him in Russian. And I'm like,
- 24:11"What'd he say?" The guy Arafat goes, "I
- 24:14don't speak English. Just talk to him."
- 24:17[laughter]
- 24:19>> I'M LIKE, "WHAT? I I just talk to you in
- 24:22English." Okay. So then I like squeeze
- 24:23in and squeeze out the
- 24:25>> Don't show at all.
- 24:25>> No. I had TO GO IN MY BED, ARM like
- 24:28this, and I'm in the side pocket and I'm
- 24:29squeezing out on the bum. I could feel
- 24:31100. I'm like,
- 24:32>> "Here you go." [laughter] He's like,
- 24:33"Okay, bye."
- 24:35>> That sucks, man. That's got all That's
- 24:38so insane, dude. It's got awful. Russia
- 24:41was like I believe it was the start of
- 24:43Uber. Okay, hear me out. Because not the
- 24:46app, but the whole concept of like
- 24:49anybody picking you up. We would I got
- 24:52to know my teammates well enough to
- 24:54where I go drinking with these guys. I
- 24:56like [ __ ] it. I'm going drinking. Can't
- 24:57speak English. They can't like they
- 24:59can't speak I can't speak Russian. I
- 25:01don't care. And my defense partner was
- 25:03an animal. He was he was a Russian cop
- 25:06like four years before and then now he's
- 25:07playing he's my defense partner. a good
- 25:09hockey player.
- 25:10>> Yeah, he was good. He was tough as
- 25:11nails. This guy he block a shot with his
- 25:13face. I was like, "Okay,
- 25:15>> this guy can stay." [laughter]
- 25:16>> I don't mind him on my side. Let's go.
- 25:18>> So, when he he invited me out the one
- 25:20time, he's like, you know, I forget how
- 25:21he [ __ ] put it and he's like, "Pea,
- 25:24like beer, pea. Pea." I'm like, "Yeah,
- 25:26let's [ __ ] go. Piva." So, I need lots
- 25:28of them.
- 25:29>> So, I went out with these guys and we
- 25:31got like hammered. It was a one of the
- 25:34best times I've had in my life without
- 25:35speaking a word of like English the
- 25:38whole night. charades the whole night
- 25:39>> charades
- 25:40>> and it was awesome. But at the end of
- 25:42the night we were far like far enough
- 25:44from the rink cuz these guys didn't live
- 25:46at the rink. I did. And so
- 25:48[clears throat]
- 25:48the one guy Miesa is like uh you like
- 25:52home. I'm like I don't [ __ ] know how
- 25:55to get home, you know? He's like ah
- 25:57don't worry about we go walk out into
- 25:59the street and you just you put your
- 26:00hand out in the street with two fingers.
- 26:03It's like this and somebody will pull
- 26:04over because they all want to make
- 26:06money. So, it's like I said, it's like
- 26:08the beginning of Uber kind of. He's like
- 26:10this and then he opens the door and he
- 26:13tells a guy in Russian and then he pays
- 26:15the guy boom ahead of time whatever it
- 26:17was
- 26:18>> and he put he goes you okay and the guy
- 26:20took me right back to the rink whatever
- 26:22but if you're English like they'll
- 26:24they'll soak you
- 26:26>> try to screw you it was $1 to go
- 26:28anywhere in the city.
- 26:29>> So we were paying calling taxi taxi $1
- 26:32go wherever we got to go. Then this is
- 26:34after like a month. The lunch ladies are
- 26:36like, "No, we drive you." I'm like,
- 26:38"Wow, they like us. We're friends,
- 26:40right?" No,
- 26:40>> we drive. She stopped short money. Hand
- 26:44out. I'm like, "Uh-uh. They're not our
- 26:45friends. [laughter]
- 26:46They're not our friends."
- 26:47>> It was crazy.
- 26:49>> They want my ruples. [laughter]
- 26:52>> But honestly,
- 26:53>> it was a great adventure.
- 26:54>> Soup. One day. What we'll do.
- 26:55>> I would never ever have gone over there.
- 26:57>> I know. They I was supposed to at the
- 26:59end of my career.
- 27:00>> I was never asked like I'll go to
- 27:01>> They would have been like, "Want to come
- 27:02to Russia?" have been like, "Hell no."
- 27:05>> But although Trevor Killies and Morassi
- 27:07and all those [ __ ] kickers, they loved
- 27:10it.
- 27:10>> So with that team, um,
- 27:13>> with that team, the first guys to do
- 27:16what they did
- 27:17>> was Darcy Verau and Chris Simon.
- 27:20>> Simon.
- 27:21>> And they were playing for this
- 27:22mafiaowned team. And this guy would come
- 27:24down, the owner would come down
- 27:26>> and he'd write a number down on a piece
- 27:27of paper and he hand it to them like
- 27:29basically go kill this man.
- 27:30>> Yes. And Darcy Vero, who [clears throat]
- 27:33>> was tough, but he wasn't like a killer.
- 27:36>> Yeah.
- 27:36>> But he was shitkicking everybody in the
- 27:38Russian League because nobody wanted to
- 27:41fight him as far as like the Russian
- 27:42guys.
- 27:43>> So he would just drop the gloves, grab
- 27:44the guy, and just start fist pumping him
- 27:45like gloves on, doesn't matter. Didn't
- 27:47care. But he had to do it because the
- 27:49owner told him. Yeah.
- 27:50>> And so not only did they get paid,
- 27:53>> they got bonuses for the guys they beat
- 27:55up. So everybody's acting like this
- 27:57Darcy Vo is like this killer, you know?
- 27:59And I remember going in there, we're
- 28:00playing against this team
- 28:02[clears throat] and uh Valerie Braggen
- 28:04is my coach and he he looks at me and he
- 28:08goes, "Yeah, don't don't fight VO." I'm
- 28:11like, "Think I give a [ __ ] about that
- 28:13guy?" Like I respect Darcy Simon.
- 28:16>> I He's a great dude. I got to know him.
- 28:19All I respect him all, but I wasn't
- 28:22lying awake worried about Darcy Verau.
- 28:25>> And so we play the game and not Darcy
- 28:27does nothing in that game. like he
- 28:28doesn't do anything stupid blah blah
- 28:30blah but I talk to him after and then he
- 28:31tells me his setup like basically like
- 28:33yeah I just go out there play and when
- 28:35they give me a number I go beat the guy
- 28:37up I get paid
- 28:38>> until they start signing Saskatchewan
- 28:40Junior Hockey League [laughter] but you
- 28:41know what happens after that they sign
- 28:43Morasti and they sign Gillies and Josh
- 28:46Graten
- 28:46>> but all to the same team
- 28:48>> yeah they were all
- 28:49>> they're all on the same team cam that
- 28:51owner
- 28:51>> no Gillies and Morasti fought and
- 28:53Gillies caught him and knocked him out
- 28:54with a
- 28:55>> You're right
- 28:57got traded He did looked at it on
- 28:59YouTube. Scary.
- 29:00>> Or he signed somewhere else. But at one
- 29:02point, Yablonsky.
- 29:03>> Yablonsky.
- 29:04>> Gillies. Uh, who was the guy from LA?
- 29:07>> That was the Philadelphia Flyers of the
- 29:09KHL.
- 29:10>> Scary. Yeah. Western.
- 29:12>> No, no, no, no, no. Before they start
- 29:14with a B. Anyways, this guy was over
- 29:16there, too. And they had like four or
- 29:19five legit NHL like heavyweights on one
- 29:22team. And they would all get out there
- 29:24and just [ __ ] kick everybody. Heavy is
- 29:26going at Josh got signed by a different
- 29:29team to and then Morassi got traded or
- 29:32signed so they could play against this
- 29:34team.
- 29:34>> Yes. So now Heavy Heavy Heavy and all
- 29:37>> Twister you would love that Yablonsky I
- 29:39I believe what he's doing right now is
- 29:41like
- 29:42>> like what is Yes. Like rescuing

- 29:48>> Hardcore badass, right? Am I wrong on
- 29:50that? Okay. I don't know a whole lot
- 29:52about it, but I know that he's like

- 29:56he was part of that children compassion
- 29:58call that I was talking about a couple
- 29:59episodes ago. He was one of the guys
- 30:01that set it up. Trevor Achilles is on
- 30:02that setting it up. Uh Mike
- 30:04>> Skroy
- 30:07out baby. What is that?
- 30:08>> So Sy
- 30:10will remember this. We were playing in
- 30:12San Antonio in the miners and we had
- 30:16>> that was a team
- 30:17>> killers. Yeah. And we were good. And we
- 30:20had Rocky Thompson, Joey Tedareno, Sean
- 30:24Ganon, and Brendan Walsh. We have
- 30:27>> Joey uh Tedaro. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:30>> Yeah. Joey. And then eventually Darcy
- 30:31Hordachuk came in at one point.
- 30:33>> So we're playing against I forget where
- 30:35he was, but Yablonsky got called up from
- 30:37the ECHL to play against us.
- 30:40>> And we have these four guys that are
- 30:42foaming at the mouth for this kid. He
- 30:44has a black guy, you know, and he wasn't
- 30:46Yablonsky at that point. He was just a
- 30:48call up and they were patrolling the red
- 30:50line and finally Walshie goes over. He
- 30:53goes, "Hey fella." HE GOES, "YOU BETTER
- 30:55PICK ME TONIGHT. I'M YOUR BEST
- 30:57ADOPTION." [laughter]
- 30:58>> AND HE IS.
- 30:59>> He was He was
- 31:00>> He's a good Boston tough though.
- 31:02>> We'll get Walshie on here one day. He's
- 31:04got story after story.

- 31:57>> God dang. I love
- 31:58>> Yeah, just uh charity auctions, man. And
- 32:01I uh I would never want to work at a
- 32:03auto auction or a farm auction. Even
- 32:04though I did work at Richard Brothers
- 32:06for 10 years where I learned how to kind
- 32:08of get my chant going, but I just kind
- 32:10of fell into this thing about 10 years
- 32:12ago and now it's a full-time business.
- 32:13I'm going to do over a 100 charity
- 32:15auctions here this year in St. Louis.
- 32:16So, uh yeah, just uh it's all about

- 33:17>> It took a minute.
- 33:18>> Positivity. What? [laughter]
- 33:20>> No, give it to me. I I listen. I hand it
- 33:23out. I expected to come back.
- 33:25>> Well, how could you spelled Thor wrong?
- 33:26WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE SEXUAL
- 33:28WITH YOU GUYS? GIVE it to me. You're
- 33:29like, "Okay, [laughter]
- 33:32>> he might at least give me a bourbon."
- 33:33>> But people ask people ask me all the
- 33:35time, "What does this mean?" And so I'm
- 33:37always like, "Well, it's an events
- 33:38company. I do auctions." Like, "I know
- 33:40somebody. I've gotten more leads off
- 33:41this hat than
- 33:42>> and and even four is spelled wrong." So,
- 33:44I mean, it's [laughter]
- 33:47>> read slow.
- 33:49>> Los is really good at auction. So damn
- 33:52good.
- 33:52>> So, if you're out there and you have a

- 34:04filling Cam in. He's doing a hell of a
- 34:05job. We're getting good reviews on him,
- 34:07too. So, keep up the good work on that
- 34:08one. And we do turnkey events. We put
- 34:10the whole thing on. I can show up and be
- 34:12just your auctioneer, consult you, give
- 34:14you some advice. I said, I've done
- 34:15probably five or six hundred of these
- 34:17things in the last 10 years. So,
- 34:18>> it's a lot.
- 34:19>> It's awesome. You do good. You damn
- 34:20good.
- 34:21>> And I get to be a part of the community

- 34:24Kate likes even cut that part.
- 34:27>> She does. She's like, "Lo's really

- 34:30she's like, "You lo I'm" I'm like, "I
- 34:33know. I'm working on Listen, you've only
- 34:35done like

- 34:37You're good. You have your own style.
- 34:38You have your own style. And don't
- 34:40>> Don't try to be him.
- 34:41>> But like I told you, you're not 6'4. I'm
- 34:43not 64.
- 34:44>> When you're driving down the road, some
- 34:45of those auctioneer skilled things like
- 34:48it's 5 to the 10 to the 10 to the 15 to
- 34:50the 20. Now 20 to the 25 to the 30 to
- 34:52the 35 to the 35 to the 40. Now to the
- 34:5440 to the 45 to the 50 to the 45 to the
- 34:5640 45 to the 35 to the 40 to the 25
- 34:59[laughter]
- 34:59math to 10.
- 35:01>> Well it's up and down
- 35:04habitual.
- 35:05>> I learned from the [laughter] best.
- 35:06>> That's a lot of writing. You got to read
- 35:08that off.
- 35:09>> Jamie, what do you got going?
- 35:11>> Oh man. Uh
- 35:12>> besides getting hitched.

- 35:29events. Um, local guy, uh, Joe Stevens
- 35:32does a lot of great work for the Police
- 35:34Foundation here in St. Louis. He had a
- 35:36fundraiser at his ranch or whatever.
- 35:38It's amazing setup. And, uh, Lozie was
- 35:41doing the auction and Ashley looks over
- 35:43at me, she goes, "We should get Lozy to
- 35:45marry us." AND I WAS LIKE, "YEAH,
- 35:48ACTUALLY NOT BAD." [laughter] NOT BAD,
- 35:51MAYBE.
- 35:52>> And so Lozi is going to be um marrying
- 35:55us a couple weeks from now. And uh we've
- 35:58got uh I'm on, you know, 101 ESPN here

- 36:36>> He refused.
- 36:37>> I got one of those.
- 36:38>> He's like don't give him the puck. I'd

- 37:25>> No, because you had a very small bike.
- 37:28>> Hey, I will say this about you, Twister,
- 37:30though. I was still young when you were
- 37:33skating with us in some of these

- 37:36some of the blue stuff that we did?
- 37:38>> Oh, yeah. Yep.
- 37:38>> At Enterprise and you're still skating.

- 38:07fantasy camp would be cool if we had
- 38:09like three teams. So funny.
- 38:10>> It was Simmer. Reed Sims the same. He's
- 38:13like he's like not running up there, but

- 38:17>> You're a Blackhawk alumni.
- 38:19>> Yep. He invited me up to a deal that

- 38:49>> Right there. That's actually not a
- 38:51barbecue sauce. This is a cooking tool.
- 38:53All right. It's a cooking tool. Tell you
- 38:55how to use.
- 38:56>> Yeah. Well, I

- 41:02buffalo nickel and it was him who did
- 41:04it. [laughter]
- 41:05>> No [ __ ]

- 42:01people taking care of it, but I don't
- 42:02have that kind of money. So, I have my
- 42:04two puppies.
- 42:06[laughter]
- 42:07I'm telling you, I would have a farm
- 42:08full of all kinds of [ __ ] I just I just
- 42:10would do that. Um, but yeah, I got I got
- 42:12the podcast came podcast. We've been
- 42:14doing that for seven years. Never missed
- 42:16a week. We get the best uh NHL guests on
- 42:19from executive. You guys get some
- 42:21incredible.
- 42:21>> We get We just had Daryl Sutter was
- 42:23hilar. I mean, like we had Zador off the
- 42:25other day talking a lot of Russia stuff,
- 42:27baby. Oh, yeah.
- 42:28>> Yeah. He's Americanized, man. Yeah.
- 42:30>> Yeah. He big time. He loves it.
- 42:32>> He's a quirky dude, but he's cool.
- 42:33>> He's cool as [ __ ]
- 42:35>> He's a massive dude.
- 42:37>> There was no better man in shape. And
- 42:40[snorts] that includes Rod the Bod
- 42:42>> than he was when he played. you when he
- 42:45was a gigantor
- 42:48ripped muscular
- 42:50>> Oh, you're talking about Charara.
- 42:51>> Charara. I'm talking about Char.
- 42:52>> He's talking about Zidora.
- 42:53>> Okay. Talking about Char.
- 42:54>> I was like, "Wait a minute. How the hell
- 42:55do you know Char's in a mountain top
- 42:57right now climbing it? I played with Z
- 42:59in two different
- 43:01Zidor." Yeah.
- 43:02>> Peter Stassy took a bunch of us over in
- 43:042015 for a week trip in Slovakia and I
- 43:08and I went on it and it was phenomenal.
- 43:10First off, Peter Stassy absolutely
- 43:11dialed us in. There was autograph lines
- 43:14bigger than when I played in the NHL cuz
- 43:16these guys were never like those fans
- 43:18were never going to get us really over
- 43:19there again. Right.
- 43:20>> Well, Z, the very last game, we played
- 43:22three games over there. In the very last
- 43:24game, Zado and a couple of the NHL guys
- 43:27that were friends with Pav played for
- 43:28the Russian All-Star team or the
- 43:30Slovakian All-Star team. So, we get done
- 43:33and I take my jersey and I asked
- 43:35Chaster, I'm like, "We get to keep our
- 43:36jerseys, right?" So, I got all the Blues
- 43:37alumni to sign the three and then went
- 43:39over and got all the Slovakians to sign
- 43:41the four. I was on skates and I'm 6'4.
- 43:44I'm not a small person. I was probably
- 43:46275 at that point in time and I am
- 43:49standing beside Zado who's off skates
- 43:52and he's still taller than me and you
- 43:55know when you talk big tall linky guys
- 43:57like that like to pack muscle on that's
- 43:59not easy. He had his shirt off like he
- 44:02was just jack diesel everywhere. It was
- 44:04the most incredible thing I've ever
- 44:06seen. And he played like like run biking
- 44:09and like the the tour the France. Like
- 44:11this guy's a machine.
- 44:12>> When I was with him with the Islanders,
- 44:13I played with with the Islanders and
- 44:15then with the Senators. And
- 44:17>> when he was young kid with the
- 44:18Islanders, he'd come in like before
- 44:20games and he'd have all this like his
- 44:23lower gear on. So pants, shin pads,
- 44:25skates, everything. No upper body stuff.
- 44:27And he'd go into the weight room and
- 44:28he'd be doing squats in his skates. And
- 44:31I'm like, "What are you doing then?"
- 44:33What are you doing? You got skates? I
- 44:35Yeah. He goes, "Why? Why would I do
- 44:37squats without skates?" He goes, "I make
- 44:38my living on skates."
- 44:40>> I was like, "Okay, if you put it that
- 44:42way, I make kind of makes sense.
- 44:43>> That's why you are who you are." So, he
- 44:45was a 19year-old when I was an over in
- 44:47the Western Hockey League and he just
- 44:48came over and I was chasing him all over
- 44:51the ice. It was like the first 10 games
- 44:52of the season. So, he was a little bit
- 44:53scared. probably heard like there's me
- 44:55and Dale Parton, Rocky Thompson, Scott
- 44:57Parkers
- 44:59kind of led the league that year and we
- 45:01were ch I was chasing him around and
- 45:02then he I guess he knock broke
- 45:05Tedareno's jaw and everybody was like,
- 45:07"Okay, let's just leave this big bird,
- 45:10[laughter] you know."
- 45:11>> No, he had that knockout. Once you get
- 45:13that knockout in juniors, everybody's
- 45:15like,
- 45:15>> he could throw them, man. Like 69 and he
- 45:18could throw them like nicest man you've
- 45:20ever met until you're fighting him and
- 45:23then he wants to end you. And once he's
- 45:25done with the fight though, he'll pick
- 45:26you up and hug slam you.
- 45:27>> No, he'll pick you up, hug you.
- 45:28>> But he he was so strong. Remember he
- 45:30knocked out he he took Coochi and went
- 45:33like flung Coach's like 66.
- 45:35>> Remember Brian? Remember he fought Brian
- 45:37McCabe?
- 45:37>> Yeah. flung him up like ripping him
- 45:40around
- 45:40>> before or after he had one eye.
- 45:42>> No, that was Brian Bard.
- 45:44>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 45:45>> Stay hot. [laughter]
- 45:48>> Somebody wake him up.
- 45:49>> Hey, I tell you though, I Hey,
- 45:52>> Twister. Char [laughter] Twister. Char
- 45:54got knocked out. Char got knocked out in
- 45:57a fight behind the net.
- 45:59>> By who?
- 46:00>> Like five years ago by just a random
- 46:03Russian kid. He fought some kid behind
- 46:05the net.
- 46:06>> Was it Was it Trenan? I think so. And
- 46:09caught him in a jaw and buckled him.
- 46:11Bam.
- 46:11>> He's trending. He's tough.
- 46:13>> It's like one of those, man. Like he's
- 46:14just got a little too cute.
- 46:16>> Anybody?
- 46:16>> Boom. Kid yourself.
- 46:18>> We're going to wrap it up. That
- 46:20>> wrap it up, buddy. [laughter]
- 46:21>> Episode four, baby. Let's go. Bare
- 46:23knuckle nation. Bare knuckle/nation.
