Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: Well, hey everybody.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to yet another exciting episode of the Steve and Jeff Show.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: I'm Steve.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: And I'm Jeff.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: How's it going, Steve?
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, Jeff, Jeff.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: You know, I always say it's going great, and I always talk about great stuff that's going on.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And Google Apathetics really liked our last show.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: They had some big numbers.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: They like those ghost shows around Halloween.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: But but Jeff, I gotta tell you, I think we may have made a mistake in trying to contact the spirit of Chelsea.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: I think we may have made a mistake.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Did you say that there was some sort of unearthly thing that happened that resulted in a problem reaching her from the other side?
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think when we when we contacted her, she apparently she didn't come in during the actual seance, if you will.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: She was late.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: But I she was late.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, but I digress.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: But she apparently was here because I tell you, ever since we did that, it's been weird.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: It's been chilly.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: It's been shivery, and and there's not goat cheese anywhere to be seen.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Weird things have been happening to me.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: It's been, I've heard this ringing phone and and I've heard this uh this voice echoing, and I've had this this like overwhelming urge to have a drink at lunch.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: I I don't I can't understand it.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know what's going on.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And I don't want to burst your bubble, but any feeling like you are sensing her probably isn't true since you know she pretty much was never there.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Well, it was so it may be more in your mind.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: You know, that is such a good point, Jeff.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: It's probably my own mind doing it because having a sense of her, I really have no sense of her.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: So how can I have a sense?
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And your mind, and if you I don't mean to flatter you, but your mind is doing a better job just thinking about it than she did as as producer.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that's great.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Maybe if we if we bring Madame Bolshevsky back and and we have another seance, maybe, maybe we can create our minds so that we can just think a good producer and and just do it mentally.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I love that idea.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: I think that would be because physically we got some limitations.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, we're rolled.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Come on, we get we got some limitations.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Mentally, maybe we could do it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, mentally we got some limitations, a world, but but maybe, but Jeff, I digress.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Jeff, you know, you have been doing some interesting travel lately, and I think that kind of relates to who is on the other side of the glass.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Let me tap the glass here.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm gotta do that.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you brought that up.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I think I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I went to Paris and to uh Morocco, yes, uh Marrakesh because they're like right next to each other, they are so close and they're so similar.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: People think they're in Paris and they're really in Marrakesh and really in Marrakesh, yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: You know, it's it's the same thing, anyways.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Was not my original location where we were gonna go.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Originally, we were planning a trip to uh to London, and it was gonna be for like 10 days in London and just see the area.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: But you know, Steve, there I ran into some financial issues.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: First of all, we had to pay for our show that we ended up paying a lot of money out that we didn't need to pay out, you know.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: No, but Jeff, but Jeff, we're gonna make that back.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: We've got some good ads coming up.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Good to know.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Good to know.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Appropriation station people, they're gonna pay us, they're gonna pay us.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, and then and then Farmer Brute.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: I got a call from Farmer Brute.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: They're mad because Appropriation Station's got all the ads, they're gonna start paying us.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, Jeff is gonna be so good, but but I digress, but but awesome.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So I found somebody told me about this travel agency, and I contacted them because they did discount trips, and I thought it was fascinating.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So um, I got a hold of uh of them, they were called uh Big D travel, is that is their name, and what they specialize in is they specialize in discount vacations at places that may have suffered one or more form of a hardship or uh you know something that may have gone wrong.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: So when they said to me, You can go to Paris and there's bed bugs there, I'm like, Well, you know, I don't know if I want to go, but then I heard that French bed bugs are so much nicer than American bed bugs, and they all smoke galois and they live to 100.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, how can what is it?
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: The red wine, is it the garlic?
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: I don't get it, I don't know.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And they sleep through the night, they sleep through the night.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It's not like they it's not like they snore, and so then the other dinner at 10, of course.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: They it knocks them out, you know.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, and then dinner, dinner and straight to bed.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, too.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: The other part of the trip that we scheduled was where there was an earthquake.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you, Steve, I've been a big camping fan, and uh this reminded me of it.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: You are you are Mr.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Outdoors, Jeff.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: I just gotta say, and so just the I was looking forward to it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And to be honest with you, at$47 a night, can you beat going to Morocco?
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, I can't even stay home for$47 a night, Jeff.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: That is outstanding.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So I invited her onto our show.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I thought that maybe we could talk to her and she can share her story because I actually want to know more as well.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I would love to get some great travel ideas from her.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: This is exciting, Jeff.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: This could lead to some real good travel memories and travel experiences.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is just so so exciting.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: So the person I work with, her name is Diane.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Diane, are you with us?
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: I am.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Hi, hi Diane.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: You know, Diane, I didn't get a chance to thank you again.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: What a wonderful trip I had.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And you know, it was Steve.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I don't want to get anybody jealous or anything.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Two weeks,$194 total.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Wow, can you beat that?
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: You know, I just it was it was amazing.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, please.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I know Diane, thank you so much.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: You're so welcome.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: I I'm so glad you had a great time, and I'm I'm looking forward to your next trip, which I know will be coming up here soon.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: I gotta ask Diane, how did this is a very unique niche in travel?
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: How did you come upon this niche?
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: How did you get started doing this?
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, I I've been working in the travel business my my whole life.
- 6:04SPEAKER_04: So, you know, big D really came came about in about 2005.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: I I had a lot of a lot of vacations booked down to New Orleans.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Ah, yeah.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Good place to go.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Great place to go.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: And you know, then Hurricane Katrina hit.
- 6:24SPEAKER_04: We all know that.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: And I was able to just get some really great deals.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: And you know, I just called on my friends and I said, Hey, for the cost of a campsite, I can get you into a five-star hotel.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: And then boom, before you know it, my travel agency just took off.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, I can see how that would happen.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: That is that's a tremendous discount.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: You know, the other part of this is that I know my wife feels guilty when she goes on vacations and other people don't.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: I would imagine when they went to New Orleans, they probably did they chip in a little bit of time to help the the people because that would be that would be awesome.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, if they want to do that, they can absolutely they want to volunteer.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: But if you just want to lay on the beach and you know, watch everyone clean up and just kind of kick back and relax, just by you being there, it's helping, right?
- 7:23SPEAKER_04: Just oh absolutely be there, spend some money.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: That's how I felt for the economy, reviving that economy, even though it's less maybe than it would you would put into the economy in a healthier time.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: You're still putting money into the economy when it's needed.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, that's so exciting.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: We're all about just helping people here, Steve.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: And this is just uh exactly this is classic, you know.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: This is this is classic, Steve and Jeff.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: That is exactly what we're all about.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: We're all about helping others.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: We don't think about us and our money, and no, it never crosses our mind.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: We are thinking about others.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: That's exactly right.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: Exactly and you know what?
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Rather than make a donation to the Red Cross, you could actually plan a vacation and go down there and right there you're giving back directly.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: You know, and that is really so much better, I think, Diane, because you know, the Red Cross, yes, they're going to help people that got injured, but what about all the people that didn't get injured?
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: That are just standing around, that are busboys in restaurants, that are Bellwing in hotels, they need the money, and that's what we can do.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: We can provide money to people that weren't injured.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And just not thinking of the bottom line here, but you know, even if you're not gonna be a big helper, they give free transportation through the Red Cross to a lot of these disaster areas, so you could actually get free airfare or bus down to where you're going.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, talk about it's it'd be almost free.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: It's almost like they pay you, they almost pay you to go down, and you don't have to do shit because you know, you could as soon as you get there, you can just take off, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: You don't have you've spent the money, you've done your part.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: You could done your part, you're there for whatever you do nothing.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, this is so exciting.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: I want to take a trip now.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Where what's the next great disaster spot that I should really focus on?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Really think about a trip to.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: The strip is big right now.
- 9:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, ah, the strip, uh Vegas.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you know what?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: It costs more money in Vegas to like gamble than to stay there.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: You know, they have to get the rooms constantly.
- 9:33SPEAKER_04: Not not so much talking about Vegas, we're talking about Gaza.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: The Gaza Strip.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: The Gaza Strip.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, they have underground tunnels and caves you can explore.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: And right now it's pretty, it's a pretty inexpensive trip.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: And I bet you could really design that trip for people with particular interests.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: For example, if you guess the people that want to lose weight, they should go to Gaza, get that discount, and there's no food, so they'll they'll lose a ton of weight while they're there.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: People that sunburn easily, there's no electricity, so no, you won't be sitting under sunlamps in Gaza, let me tell you.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And what a perfect place to go.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Steve, last week we talked about doing surgeries yourself, right?
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Well, here that's gonna come in handy because none of the hospitals are open.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: What a needed skill.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: That is so outstanding.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Gosh, Gaza, we should take we should take Mr.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: Suit yourself to uh to Gaza.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Like we should put him to work out there.
- 10:33SPEAKER_04: You know, on my website, I would also say I have a link to uh a discount code for um some bulletproof vests.
- 10:43SPEAKER_04: Which you know, good, just extra a little extra precaution, keep you a little safe.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: You know, you can't be too careful when you're saving money, you gotta be careful, yeah.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And good for Halloween, and good for exactly we have all kinds of violent stuff that happens around me during Halloween, or just go as a Gaza strip helper.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, I am a Gaza strip economic relief worker, and you just go, you just wear what you're wearing, and but you have like two dollars in your pocket, you know.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: I yeah, I'm I'm I'm buying stuff, I'm helping out, which people would kill for Steve.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Two dollars they would, yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: It's worth a lot of money.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, I thought Morocco was a you know, was a deal, but uh, you know, this is just this is crazy.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: You know, I we got so much more to talk about, but I gotta tell you, Jeff, we got we got a repeat sponsor tonight.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Cool, my dad.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Well, no, yeah, you know, you know your dad never gonna be there.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: They he he produced a few commercials, but they didn't let him out of Stateville because they said, no, no, no, we're not gonna let prisoners send this message out.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: It it's I don't know, it was something it was it it didn't make a lot of sense to me, but apparently it was code to some people, and they I just you know, so they said no no no not going out, but I dig grasp, you know, that public service announcement that we did for for the church, you know, the attendance was down, attendance is still down, and it's funny in October is when they count people, they count the attendance and they they kind of base you know the the rake, if you will, on the take for the the people that are there, right?
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: And you know, I just talking to a guy last Sunday and he said, Oh, you know, numbers are still way down, I don't know what to do.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: So I thought, you know, maybe let's run this again.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Now we're pretty well done with October, right?
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: But there's always next October, Jeff.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: We get somebody in now, they'll be thoroughly ready by next October.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: I think we should just roll the tape here.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, it's fucking US 30 Cathedral.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Watch the holiest folks in the country get together for a monster Sunday service.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: From Detroit, down the Deacon Allen in his microfield funny car, from Ellentown, Pennsylvania, the Lehigh Legend Lee Vale and his dual exhaust twin pin bangster.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: From Chicago, Steve the Shite customer stomped against Petal and his 457 D'Challenger.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: And of course, from the Arch DCs of Omaha, big daddy further funny pigs and his breakfast field.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: If you only go to church once this year, this is the confession time trails at night, racing a ten, admission, just one little dollar in the collection plate.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Speed thrills, folks.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: So get your thrills, at smoking US 30 Cathedral, where the great ones pray.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Pray, pray.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: You know how much I love all of our advertisers, but you know, this is my favorite commercial of all of them.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: And I love when we play this.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: And it's mine too, because it not only we were talking about that, we are doing some good, yeah, but it also takes me back to my juvenile delinquent days when you know mom and I had share a vodka and a cigarette, and I'd listen to those great old WLS drag racing commercials, you know.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, Union Grove, Wisconsin, US 30 drag strip, all those, all the great times, you know.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh, those are the days.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: It's brilliant.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Those are the days, but we digress.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Diane, tell us a little more about disaster travel.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: Are there particular disasters that are better for trips than others?
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: Any disaster is is going to be beneficial.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: Hawaii has been a great destination this year in particular.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: Well, I bet Maui has some great bargains going right now.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_04: Everybody always loves to go see Chernobyl.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: You know, there's you know, there's things there that you can't see anywhere else, like six-legged dogs.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: And Chernobyl, too.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, you could save so much money because you wouldn't have to go out to eat.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: You could just take raw food in your hands and walk around for 20 minutes and it's done.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: It's cooked.
- 14:47SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: That'd be perfect.
- 14:49SPEAKER_04: And what a great lifetime experience.
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, who can actually say, hey, I went to Chernobyl and I cooked my food with the air and saw a six-legged dog.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I mean, you could almost you could get one of those t-shirts that says, I went to Chernobyl and all I came back with was this lousy extra arm.
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: That is so true.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Steve, I'm sorry, I don't I didn't realize last week's episode meant so much to me.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: But again, Chernobyl, you're looking for radiation treatment, go to the source.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: How perfect is that?
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: What are you gonna pay Mayo Clinic?
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: What$300,000 through insurance when you can go to Chernobyl for pennies on the dollar?
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, that makes perfect sense.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: You know, you need radiation therapy.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, I know the place.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: Jonestown's always a favorite, too.
- 15:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, I've I'd love to go there.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: They can call me up, they want to try the Kool-Aid.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Well, I've heard that those fruit-flavored drinks in uh turn in uh Jonestown are just to die for, really.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, literally, I mean, they're just really good.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: I I would love to go.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, that would be fascinating.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I've seen every documentary and every made-for-tv movie on Jonestown.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: So to be able to go there would be you know, it would be amazing, especially at like 50 bucks a day.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Uh I have one more question for you.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: In looking forward, besides the ones that are always available, do you do any predicting?
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I know that you don't know when an earthquake's gonna hit, but you probably know when like a hurricane season exists, that there may be like you keep people on notice that you know, if if you're interested in Florida, you know, there's always gonna be a chance, or if you're interested in Houston, you know, but but is there any way that you predict, like, do you have anything that you think might be popping uh this coming year that we can uh look forward to?
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: Jeff, that is a great question.
- 16:42SPEAKER_04: And I mean, only for your audience that tunes in, I'm going to tell you the one place that I would keep an eye on October 2024 would be West Palm Beach, Florida.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, high-class mega resort on the ocean.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: You will feel like a king.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: So even if you're not one.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: Even if you're not one.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: So I bet rooms there could be going for far less than the rack rate, than the advertised price.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, I bet.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: And if you've ever been to West Palm, you will know it's not usually a very I mean, it's usually a pretty expensive place to be.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, yes, yes.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: But I'm gonna say you could probably get rooms there.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, we're talking maybe$49 a year.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Jeez, wow.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Sign me up, Scotty.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Last time I was in West Palm, a hamburger was more than$49.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: That's that's great, that's outstanding.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: And I know that sometimes you have to be careful because the people that run these places sometimes overestimate what they're providing.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: You know, they may say that it's like a a suite when it's really an efficiency or a one-bedroom or that they include food and they they actually don't include anything, but at this rate, who cares?
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: Well, they may tell you it's$49, but okay, well, we didn't include the$10 resort fee.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, you know, fine.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: If I was a betting person, and I'm not saying that I'm, you know, checking out accommodations down there, but I would say a West Palm vacation, October 2024.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: That's where I have my money.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: I am liking that.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: I am gonna start looking at uh airfares as soon as we get off this the show here.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna as soon as we get out of eccentric Ladyland Studios, I'm gonna check out some airfares to West Palm.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: You know, it's good to predict disasters in the future, but some of the disasters that we know about, I mean, is there is there a shelf life for the disaster?
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Is it with some disasters like well?
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Let me tell you, I was thinking, I've always wanted to go to Mozambique, just because you know, nobody goes to Mozambique, right?
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: I just thought I'll be the only one that's ever gone to Mozambique, right?
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: And well, they had this big tropical storm, they had all kinds of they had flooding, they had all kinds of stuff, but that was like six months ago, seven months ago.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: Is it too late?
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: No, the answer to that is no.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: It is crazy.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'm gonna just Iraq, for example.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, or a perennial favorite.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 19:14SPEAKER_04: Yes, I mean, the mountains of Afghanistan, yes, it's still a beautiful place to vacation.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: There are certain places that it's just never gonna be too late.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: I think Mozambique would definitely be another one of those places.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: Deals will probably be going for, you know, at least the next 24 months.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: I think you're pretty good.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's not too late.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: And I, you know, you mentioning uh Iraq and stuff.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: I've always wanted to have, I love Syrian bread, and I always wanted to have Syrian bread in its place of origin.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: And you know, I bet the deals there are pretty outstanding.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: The the dollar goes far.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: I bet it goes, I bet it goes all the way to all the way to Iraq.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I bet it goes real far.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Here's another thing that just kind of came up.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, I used to live in Chicago, and uh there are some areas of Chicago that are many people describe as disasters, um, sort of ongoing disasters.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Any chance I can you can hook me up with a hotel or an apartment or a bed and breakfast, you know, in in like every city has an area that you you wouldn't want to go into normally, but for the right price, you know, you're only a a bus or uh, you know, hitchhiking or uh a train away from the nicer areas.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Exactly, Jeff.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: Yes, there's a beautiful green space in Chicago that I'm sure, I'm sure we can kind of hook you up and and get you a pretty good deal.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: Again, maybe not not as inexpensive as the strip right now, but you know, still still a better deal than well, and even if you get robbed, how much are they gonna take, right?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: If they take another 40 bucks, you're still probably looking at under a hundred bucks a night.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Because you know, I think when when the prices go down, the rate of theft, not the rate of theft, but the the amount of theft goes down.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: Like if people only need 40 for a night in a hotel, maybe they'll only steal 40.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Maybe they won't steal that extra hundred.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Maybe the the robbery is going to be less expensive as well, part of the package.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: So true.
- 21:25SPEAKER_04: And you know what?
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: Those bruises and bumps, they're free.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: You don't have to pay anything.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you go to work the next day, and it's like people are like, Hey, you're really brave.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: You you got in the fight or something or whatever.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: And so you get all this street cred, which I think is important.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: That's so great.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Well, and it's great to know that it's never it's really never too late for some of these places.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Because you know, sometimes you want to travel, but uh you know, you don't have the money, or or you gotta do you gotta do shows or whatever.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: But so if you if you miss that window, you really haven't missed it.
- 21:59unknown: Well
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: And I'll just say this too, you know, all good things come back around again.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: Ah, yes.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: So bed bugs in Paris today, tomorrow they're in New York.
- 22:10SPEAKER_04: You just sometimes you just gotta wait for that perfect timing.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: And if if you go to um bigdtravel.com and you sign up for my email, you will get an alert anytime locations become very affordable, and you'll be the first to know, and you'll you'll get those deals.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm gonna sign up for that alert.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna get on your email list.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And you know, that is such a great point that I mean, I'm thinking of like the Caribbean, where you know, you got hurricane season.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: If you want to go to the Caribbean, you know, and you're not real particular.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Hey, could be Puerto Rico, could be Barbados, could be, you know, the Bahamas.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Doesn't matter where, you just kind of wait for hurricane season and you'll be able to go one of them.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: That's amazing, you know.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean cross our fingers, you know.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I want to go on a vacation this year, so I'm hoping for some bad weather to free up some discounted rooms.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I have one more question.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: So Big D, I can only see your head.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Is that uh are you are you big Diane, or is that what it stands for?
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Or so my my full name is Diane Daisy Dixon.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: My mom loved the letter D.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Who doesn't?
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: It's really it's all for my mom, everything I do.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: Love you, mom.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Love the letter D.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Her name was Florence, I assume, right?
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because why wouldn't she?
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Why wouldn't Florence love the letter D?
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: But but I digress.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: But we could talk about deals for hours, but uh I see that the engineer's doing that little circle the finger thing, you know, he's gonna wrap it up.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: And as far as I know, it's his finger.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: He's he's you know, I like him.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: He's better than the last guy.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: I really hate it, but I, you know, this guy's a little weird too, so I don't know, but he's doing something over there.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna kick us out of eccentric Lady Linia Studios.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: But Diane, Big D, I am so glad that you came to the show tonight.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: And I I don't know about you, Jeff.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, well, you've already become a customer, but I am gonna become a customer of Big D.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: And maybe, hey, maybe she'll advertise with us, dude.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: That'd be exciting.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and Diane, I hope that maybe you I was you know, Steve, old habits are hard to break.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna say, I hope I get a discount for my next trip because she was on our show.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: How much more of a discount can you get than like twelve dollars a night?
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: So you know twelve dollars for for Morocco.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh you know what do you want?
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: 11?
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, come on.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: What what used to be used to be a Hilton, yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: You know, it still technically is a Hilton.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Well, you still see the H, it's still on the Yeah, you can see see that, you know.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: It's like out of a Marvel comic movie, you know.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you kind of see that after one of the big fights.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: It's cool.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend it.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Well, and speaking of Marvel, some of them, you know, the elevators are so you have to do kind of a Spider-Man.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, gotta go up the up the front of the building, you know.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: You kind of got to do that, you know.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: But but that's part of the adventure, part of the exercise.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: You want to get some exercise when you're on vacation, don't you?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: What better exercise than pulling yourself up 27 floors?
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Hey, you'll be you'll be in great shape by the time you get if you get up there, right?
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: You know, yeah.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: Jeff, I'll just say this.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, I you're right.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: $12 a night.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: I can't really do much more of a discount.
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: But just for you, when you're ready to book your trip to the Gaza Strip, I'll throw in a couple protein bars, pack them in your backpack.
- 25:26SPEAKER_04: You won't go hungry for at least like a day or two.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll be ahead of the game for sure.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: Or you could, you know, you could probably sell those protein bars and get an extra two days.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: I wasn't gonna say anything, Steve, an extra two days so well, right?
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I was thinking that, you know, but oh man, probably break them up into like eight servings apiece.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, sunny Gaza, you're right on the beach.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: God, what I wouldn't give for that.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: So and you listen to the roar of the surf and the explosions, it's just you know, it's just it's romantic, you know?
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: It is, it's great, Diane.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: It's been a pleasure.
- 26:03unknown: Thank you.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Diane, it's been great meeting you and what a great concept, Diane.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: You should be very proud of yourself.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: It's all for mom.
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: Love you, mom.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, there you go.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: All for mom.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm kind of I'm kind of a mom guy myself.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: In fact, I'm gonna I'm probably gonna go have a vodka or two with my mom here, you know, because she's you know, she's got that baby now, it's 90s, she's had a baby, so you know, she doesn't get out much because you know, it's 90 and she's got a baby, so she's nursing, so nursing, yeah, it's kind of stuff.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: She's not supposed to drink go out.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: It's my mom, she's gonna drink.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, come on.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: I know, I know that's what I love her.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna I'm gonna go have a vodka, maybe some mac and cheese with her.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: But uh Diane, Jeff, thank you very much for being on the show.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: And uh, Jeff, I will see you on our next program next time around.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Hey, sounds good.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: Bye.
