- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi Catherine, Hi Chelsea, how are you well?
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's Thursday, so you know what, Anne just chirping away.
- 0:08Speaker 2: My foot is healing from my foot surgery. My laser
- 0:11Speaker 2: is healing from my laser. Everything's healing. I'm healing. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 2: in my hyperbary chamber.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I had my Mel Robbins podcast come out this week,
- 0:20Speaker 3: which was awesome. I was a guest on her podcast,
- 0:23Speaker 3: which was great. So I got so many beautiful dms
- 0:26Speaker 3: in my messages, which I always love, and about our
- 0:30Speaker 3: podcast as well.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm gearing up.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I have two shows in Westhampton September twenty first. It's
- 0:36Speaker 3: now sold out, so I have tickets for September twenty second,
- 0:39Speaker 3: So if you're in that area, come see me before
- 0:42Speaker 3: I go on my next big tour. What else is happening.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I had one of my Pupsi's visiting, Poopsie. Whoopsie was
- 0:50Speaker 3: visiting for two weeks. That basically drove me off a cliff.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Lots of lots of issues, lots of driving, lots of
- 0:58Speaker 3: chauffeur ring, lots of being a stepfather.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, So that was that. Well, you're looking fresh faced.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I feel like you're relaxed because you've been like kind
- 1:08Speaker 1: of offer a little bit, so that's really nice.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I have.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I've been in LA for four straight weeks, which is
- 1:13Speaker 3: you know, not something that is yes, And my new
- 1:16Speaker 3: move and date to my house, everybody pay attention is
- 1:18Speaker 3: August twenty second.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Let's see if this happens. Let's see.
- 1:22Speaker 1: All right, I'm putting money on it this time. That
- 1:24Speaker 1: might be a foolish decision, but I'm going to.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Okay, Well, thank you. I appreciate that. And we have
- 1:29Speaker 2: some exciting guests coming up in the next few weeks,
- 1:31Speaker 2: so I've been reading lots of books to prepare. Yes.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Our guest today, though, is an Olympic medalist in figure skating.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Figure skating is one of my favorite pastimes, as we
- 1:41Speaker 3: all know, because of my coordination.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So our guest Today's Olympic medal is in figure skating.
- 1:45Speaker 3: He's an author, actor in TV personality and host of
- 1:49Speaker 3: the podcast Intrusive Thoughts with Adam Rapon.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Please welcome Adam Rapon.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Okay, shall we close the door and begin great, I'd
- 1:59Speaker 3: like to I'm chewing on food.
- 2:02Speaker 2: We haven't done that yet, not today.
- 2:05Speaker 3: We have a very special guest here today, and I
- 2:07Speaker 3: who's someone I'm meeting for the very first time. I
- 2:09Speaker 3: just want to go over a list a little bit
- 2:11Speaker 3: some of your accomplishments. Okay, before I introduce you, Ada's
- 2:14Speaker 3: Rippon Okay, twenty eighteen Olympic bronze medalist in figure skating.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Okay, this is a team event.
- 2:20Speaker 3: He was the first openly gay man to make a
- 2:22Speaker 3: US Winter Olympics team and to win a medal, and
- 2:26Speaker 3: he won Dancing with the Stars Season twenty six in
- 2:29Speaker 3: twenty eighteen. You're one of Time magazine's most one hundred
- 2:32Speaker 3: most influential people of twenty eighteen, and your profile was
- 2:36Speaker 3: written by Cher. That's fucking cool. He is a vocal
- 2:39Speaker 3: advocate for LGBTQ plus rights, including opposing Mike Pence leading
- 2:44Speaker 3: the twenty eighteen Winter Olympics delegation That's another highlight campaign
- 2:48Speaker 3: for Elizabeth Warren in twenty twenty two, and has been
- 2:50Speaker 3: critical of the International Olympics Committee selection of host cities
- 2:54Speaker 3: that have human rights violations. Okay, first question, which do
- 2:59Speaker 3: you think is gay the Winter or Summer Olympics.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I think this summer.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Wish they were the gayer one, but I definitely think
- 3:07Speaker 5: it's the Winter one.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I think you're right, I think the winter is gays. Dude,
- 3:11Speaker 3: Now tell me why do you say that.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I think like inherently you're thinking like summer games naked gay,
- 3:19Speaker 5: But when you really think about it, winter you always
- 3:23Speaker 5: have to buy some sort of costume, right, whether it's
- 3:26Speaker 5: like some sort of ski gear costume or whatever. And
- 3:30Speaker 5: all of the winter sports are like most of them
- 3:32Speaker 5: are like you have to go to the chalet.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Also there's ice.
- 3:36Speaker 3: There's also there's a figure skating and ice dancing basically
- 3:41Speaker 3: are happening, and that takes the cake. So whatever's happening
- 3:44Speaker 3: in the summertime would have to quadruple down on its
- 3:47Speaker 3: gayness to overtake that, you know what I mean, because
- 3:50Speaker 3: that's like having a bullet ball and wiping out nine
- 3:52Speaker 3: pins already. With ice dancing and figure skating, yeah, I mean,
- 3:56Speaker 3: I'm saying them like they're two different things. But ice
- 3:58Speaker 3: dancing is a part of figure skating kind of right, yes, yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 3: oh yeah, I don't want to I don't want to denude.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Figure skating or diminish figure skating, no d thing.
- 4:07Speaker 5: And I'm sure the whole figure skating community now is
- 4:09Speaker 5: grateful that you don't want to denude them.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I don't want to denude them like a plant.
- 4:14Speaker 5: No.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I also want to say that Adam was so nice
- 4:16Speaker 2: that he.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Brought it not only donuts from Sidecar Donuts, he brought
- 4:19Speaker 3: in gluten free donuts for us. I'm not even a
- 4:21Speaker 3: donut person, and I've already down to half a one,
- 4:23Speaker 3: a gluten free one.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They're amazing. I don't have a problem with gluten. I
- 4:26Speaker 2: don't know what's going on. I'm having donuts and gluten
- 4:28Speaker 2: free donuts. It's like a fucking double whoopsie doodle.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And you brought me a condom from the Olympics. Yes, wow,
- 4:34Speaker 3: I love that you think I used condoms.
- 4:36Speaker 5: No, I didn't think that you did. I thought that
- 4:39Speaker 5: you'd want that condom. Freight the Olympics as like a momento.
- 4:42Speaker 3: How much sex is happening in Olympic village at the Olympics.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Okay, So I think in the summer there is probably
- 4:49Speaker 5: a lot more happening. Like it's like I said, hotter
- 4:52Speaker 5: there there's more likenedity.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I'm going to disagree with you because of the climate.
- 4:56Speaker 3: When it's cold you need someone to snuggle with. There's
- 4:58Speaker 3: more of an impetus for it. To take a lover
- 5:00Speaker 3: in this summertime, it's like, fucking, we're hot, we're outside,
- 5:03Speaker 3: there's men and women everywhere.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Why choose one.
- 5:07Speaker 3: In the winter, I want to hunker That's what I
- 5:08Speaker 3: want to hunker down with, like a mountain man.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 5:11Speaker 5: I don't know if people when they go to the
- 5:13Speaker 5: Olympics are like concerned about hunkering down, But if they were,
- 5:18Speaker 5: I do think that your theory would kind of pan out.
- 5:21Speaker 5: But when you're at the Olympics, so like now, because
- 5:24Speaker 5: there have been Olympic villages in the past that have
- 5:26Speaker 5: like completely like people went in, they left, and then
- 5:29Speaker 5: it's like turned to rubble. And so now when the
- 5:31Speaker 5: cities like present a plan, they need to show like
- 5:34Speaker 5: what will the village become. So at the Olympics that
- 5:37Speaker 5: I went to in Korea, it was all of these
- 5:40Speaker 5: like condo buildings that had already been like bought. So
- 5:43Speaker 5: I shared like a three bedroom condo with like five people.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So how does that work with five people? Are you
- 5:50Speaker 2: sharing beds with people? You were sharing rooms? So like
- 5:54Speaker 2: two in fash room.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Awful, But I guess that's part for the course, right
- 5:57Speaker 3: with the Olympics.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, and so they and then like everything's covered
- 6:00Speaker 5: in plastic too, like no, like because it was somebody
- 6:03Speaker 5: had already bought it, like that was the plan, Like
- 6:06Speaker 5: this was going to be something.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And is there what city?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Like Okay, Salt Lake City and like say Whistler, Canada.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Those were two great spots for the Olympics, right A
- 6:15Speaker 3: Rio fucked it up big time, didn't they?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:18Speaker 3: I think I mean it was weren't they swimming and
- 6:20Speaker 3: sewage and like that.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that was Paris too.
- 6:25Speaker 5: There's a lot of sewage related summer incidents, I think.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of sewage related swimming. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Now you've had a lot of success since the Olympics,
- 6:35Speaker 3: and I think that there is a definite correlation or
- 6:38Speaker 3: tell me if you think there is a correlation between
- 6:40Speaker 3: being a figure skater and then being able to transition
- 6:44Speaker 3: from that, because there's a lot of athletes that have
- 6:46Speaker 3: trouble transitioning from their sport into the entertainment industry. But
- 6:49Speaker 3: I feel like figure skaters, specifically gay male figure skaters,
- 6:54Speaker 3: have an advantage.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's almost like you the world is your oyster when
- 6:57Speaker 2: you come out of that. Do you agree with that?
- 7:00Speaker 5: I think like in the figure skating world, especially like
- 7:03Speaker 5: if you're like a gay guy, when you're in there,
- 7:05Speaker 5: there's a lot of like internalized homophobia within the sport.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And it's gotten like so much better.
- 7:12Speaker 5: But when I was like younger, it was like you
- 7:13Speaker 5: just didn't want to be that because it was everything.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Like every like father I say, like in quotes, would
- 7:19Speaker 5: fear that their son would go in and they'd like
- 7:21Speaker 5: turn gay, which is but do you?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but don't you become gay before you become a
- 7:27Speaker 3: male figure skater.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I understand that not every male figure skater is gay.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I understand, yes, but you don't become gay by doing
- 7:34Speaker 3: a sport, just like you don't become trans by hanging
- 7:36Speaker 3: out with someone who is trans.
- 7:38Speaker 2: No, so what comes first? The chicken or gay is gay?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Or the ice gate the gay? The gay? Yeah, because
- 7:45Speaker 2: you don't become gay.
- 7:46Speaker 5: I was like, because gay, Yes, I was already become right.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 5: So I think like being an athlete sets you up
- 7:56Speaker 5: to I think have like a work ethic that not
- 7:59Speaker 5: a lot of people do have. I think like maybe
- 8:02Speaker 5: ninety percent of the people that I've met I think
- 8:04Speaker 5: are so lazy.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But I like what you're saying because You're right, there's
- 8:07Speaker 3: a level of professionalism that if you're going to devote
- 8:10Speaker 3: yourself to a sport at that level, you're going to
- 8:13Speaker 3: be able to succeed at other things. Which is interesting
- 8:16Speaker 3: because you know, I just watched that video of Mary
- 8:18Speaker 3: lou rettin getting a dui, you know, and like her
- 8:22Speaker 3: sobriety walk, and I was just like, what happens to
- 8:25Speaker 3: some of these athletes that aren't able to parlay it
- 8:28Speaker 3: into I mean, and we know what happens that happens,
- 8:30Speaker 3: you know what I mean that aren't able to parlay
- 8:32Speaker 3: it because you are giving You're gifted with the first
- 8:35Speaker 3: batch of ingredients that is required to make a successful person,
- 8:39Speaker 3: which is work ethic.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah right.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I think like I was very good, but I wasn't
- 8:45Speaker 5: like the best, and I think people who were the best,
- 8:49Speaker 5: it's very hard for them to pivot into something else
- 8:53Speaker 5: because I've felt that, like, Okay, I'm starting like at
- 8:57Speaker 5: zero now having to work my way up, and I
- 8:59Speaker 5: know how much time and energy it took to be
- 9:03Speaker 5: very good at what I did in my last career,
- 9:06Speaker 5: and I think some people are intimidated by that, like workload.
- 9:10Speaker 5: But I told you before we recorded the podcast that
- 9:13Speaker 5: I had just read your book, and I feel like
- 9:16Speaker 5: I really see eye to eye with you in the
- 9:18Speaker 5: way that well, one, we're both one of six kids.
- 9:21Speaker 2: What number are you one? Oh? Ay, exactly, Well we're booked,
- 9:25Speaker 2: we bookend. Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 5: But I think that, like, uh, when I was reading
- 9:30Speaker 5: your book, that you put yourself in so many like
- 9:32Speaker 5: independent situations of like you know, moving across country when
- 9:36Speaker 5: you were really young and not as a typical like oldest.
- 9:40Speaker 5: My mom was really willing, like when I was training,
- 9:42Speaker 5: to put me in like situations that like now, I'm like,
- 9:45Speaker 5: those were dangerous, but they helped me grow up really quickly, right,
- 9:51Speaker 5: And I think that that also helped me because I
- 9:53Speaker 5: wasn't afraid because my mom didn't seem afraid putting me
- 9:56Speaker 5: in those situations, even though she must have been.
- 9:59Speaker 2: But or maybe she wasn't.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Maybe she wasn't thinking like that, and maybe she was thinking,
- 10:03Speaker 3: that's the necessary step in order for you to achieve
- 10:07Speaker 3: your goals is to be put in those situations, like
- 10:09Speaker 3: it's a means for you to get seen by the
- 10:11Speaker 3: right people or the training. I mean, what kind of
- 10:13Speaker 3: situations are you talking about? I mean it was all
- 10:15Speaker 3: related to ice skating right.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Like, you know, when I was like young, like twelve thirteen,
- 10:19Speaker 5: I was like always taking the Greyhound bus from Scranton
- 10:22Speaker 5: into like Philadelphia, like every Monday, Philly back to Scranton
- 10:27Speaker 5: Friday night. And I think like just being a young
- 10:32Speaker 5: person and having that level of like responsibility and just
- 10:35Speaker 5: like if you didn't know, you asked questions, and that
- 10:40Speaker 5: helped me, especially like pivoting into like an entertainment career
- 10:44Speaker 5: where it's like I don't know a lot of stuff,
- 10:45Speaker 5: and so I've had to ask a lot of questions.
- 10:47Speaker 5: But I'm not embarrassed to not know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 5: yeah yeah.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Your podcast, The run Through, you talk a lot about
- 10:58Speaker 3: the world of figure skating. What you think are the
- 11:01Speaker 3: biggest like dramas that are going on in sports right now,
- 11:04Speaker 3: whether it's figure skipping, well, in your sport, let's start
- 11:07Speaker 3: with your sport.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Well, you know what I think like a big thing
- 11:10Speaker 5: that's like happening now, is that, especially after like the
- 11:13Speaker 5: big like gymnastics scandal of like with Larry Nassar and
- 11:17Speaker 5: the abuse that was going on in there, that there's
- 11:20Speaker 5: like a reckoning of things that we thought were normal
- 11:24Speaker 5: and the way that like we were treated when we
- 11:25Speaker 5: were younger. It's like a real balance of like you
- 11:29Speaker 5: don't need to do these like destructive things to kids
- 11:33Speaker 5: to make them be performsful, right, And you know that's
- 11:38Speaker 5: like more on like a serious note, but on the
- 11:40Speaker 5: run through, Like it's the off season right now, so
- 11:43Speaker 5: we're going through different like lore things that have happened
- 11:46Speaker 5: in skating that are like amazing and like very entertaining.
- 11:50Speaker 5: And there's the story of this like ice dance team.
- 11:54Speaker 5: It's like in the nineties, like this is the real
- 11:56Speaker 5: golden age of like amazing, incredible drama. So it's like
- 12:00Speaker 5: the nineties Soviet Union. Yeah, oh done right, it's gone.
- 12:05Speaker 5: So where the natural place to go is, obviously, say
- 12:09Speaker 5: it together, Lake Placid. So there's a big fleet of
- 12:12Speaker 5: Russians that go to Lake Placid, fleet of Russians and
- 12:16Speaker 5: so it's like this whole like dance camp. So there's
- 12:20Speaker 5: this one couple and they're like the most you have
- 12:23Speaker 5: a question.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I was just gonna I was wondering why Russians are
- 12:25Speaker 3: so good at ice skating, and then I just realized
- 12:29Speaker 3: that they live in the tundra.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Right, I mean, that's why there's nothing.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Else going on but skating, and and if you want
- 12:36Speaker 3: to get out of there, you better skate your ass off, right.
- 12:39Speaker 3: That's how you're going to get out of Russia exactly
- 12:41Speaker 3: is by ice skating, right, But actually not necessarily because
- 12:43Speaker 3: a lot of those Russians, you know, whenever I watch
- 12:45Speaker 3: the Olympics, this is this is how I feel like
- 12:46Speaker 3: everyone's always.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Rooting for their own country.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I'm always rooting for the Chines, Russians, and the Russian
- 12:51Speaker 3: I am because I know if that they don't, if
- 12:52Speaker 3: they don't fucking win, they're going to get their ass
- 12:54Speaker 3: handed to them when they get back. I know that
- 12:56Speaker 3: Chinese people and and Chinese coaches and the Russian I've
- 13:00Speaker 3: got to be the worst coaches and then and then
- 13:02Speaker 3: they have to take the shit from their country too.
- 13:04Speaker 3: And their whole culture is not supportive of what we're
- 13:07Speaker 3: talking about in modernizing athletics, you know what I mean?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, sport, they're not.
- 13:11Speaker 3: There yet, and they're probably not going to get there
- 13:13Speaker 3: while we're still alive.
- 13:15Speaker 5: No, I would say that, like definitely, like culturally at least,
- 13:19Speaker 5: I don't. I can't speak for the Chinese, but they can't.
- 13:23Speaker 5: I can't. No, I actually can't legally I can. I've
- 13:26Speaker 5: been asked not to. But the Russians I can definitely
- 13:29Speaker 5: say that, like are like twenty years behind behind.
- 13:32Speaker 2: That's it, only twenty years, I would say, only twenty Yeah, twenty.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Okay, great, that's good to know. That's not as dark
- 13:40Speaker 3: as I would think. I would think it's more like
- 13:42Speaker 3: forty five.
- 13:43Speaker 5: I would say, probably in the last like because of
- 13:45Speaker 5: like what's going on over there now, they've probably fallen
- 13:48Speaker 5: back and they're like five or ten because there's still
- 13:51Speaker 5: like some coaches, like, you know, flirting with their fourteen
- 13:54Speaker 5: year old students.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Right, and of course Celine Dion's always going to happen,
- 13:58Speaker 2: you know, of course. So you go to back to
- 14:00Speaker 2: Lake Placid.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Yes, okay, So there's two couples there, right, There's one
- 14:04Speaker 5: that's like a favorite for gold, and then there's another
- 14:06Speaker 5: one who's like younger.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 5: So the one the favorite for gold married okay, married
- 14:13Speaker 5: young how young?
- 14:15Speaker 2: Twenties nineteen twenties, early twenties.
- 14:18Speaker 5: The other couple they're not together, okay, But the female
- 14:22Speaker 5: from this couple starts to have an affair with the
- 14:25Speaker 5: man from the married couple.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Oh okayle situation no, oh.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Like she doesn't know. He's like going behind her back.
- 14:33Speaker 5: In Lake Placid, there's nothing else to do there. Skate train, affair.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Those are the only three things you can do in
- 14:39Speaker 5: Lake Placid. You could fuck the lake. It's zen, I
- 14:43Speaker 5: mean that would be fun. Cdrilla Hall through the lake
- 14:45Speaker 5: and fuck it. Yes, four things you can do in
- 14:48Speaker 5: like fuck the lake and the first three. So they're
- 14:52Speaker 5: in this affair and the number one couple.
- 14:56Speaker 2: She doesn't know that it's happening.
- 14:57Speaker 5: So they go to the Olympics together and for good luck,
- 15:01Speaker 5: the man who's having the affair gives his affair partner
- 15:06Speaker 5: his girlfriend his wedding ring for good luck, which she
- 15:10Speaker 5: wears on a necklace through the first two segments of
- 15:14Speaker 5: the entire competition.
- 15:16Speaker 2: So then she finds out. The wife finds out, and
- 15:19Speaker 2: she's like right.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Because she's like, aha, has the ring like dangling, like
- 15:24Speaker 5: knocking the collar bones. So she finds out, she you know,
- 15:29Speaker 5: gives the ring back like whatever. So she's just hoping,
- 15:31Speaker 5: like the affair stops. Then they go on tour and
- 15:35Speaker 5: she's hoping it's not happening. They're all on the same tour.
- 15:37Speaker 5: The affair is like very in her face at this point.
- 15:41Speaker 5: And so while they're on tour, they're in Los Angeles
- 15:43Speaker 5: and they go to Spago and at Spago she sees
- 15:47Speaker 5: the number one team. She sees her husband at the
- 15:50Speaker 5: bar at Spago with her name is Oxana.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Of course there's only two yes and those she chose
- 16:01Speaker 3: the h three yeah, and fuck the lake.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Those are the four things. So she's at the bar.
- 16:06Speaker 5: So the wife goes over and she takes the back
- 16:09Speaker 5: of her head and she's max it onto the bar.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Okay, she should have done that on the frozen lake.
- 16:17Speaker 2: First of all, she should have done that at the Olympics.
- 16:20Speaker 3: She should have done that on Lake Blas said when
- 16:21Speaker 3: she had the first opportunity. But okay, fine, she didn't
- 16:24Speaker 3: know what she knows now exactly.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Now she knows the addressed to Spago, and she knows
- 16:28Speaker 5: that they're having an affair in public. So this is
- 16:31Speaker 5: like the nineties, but this was like they covered this
- 16:33Speaker 5: like on TV and so like this was like amazing,
- 16:37Speaker 5: Like these were the pieces that.
- 16:38Speaker 2: We were watching when you're watching the Olympics.
- 16:41Speaker 5: So this is like the Golden Age and this Oxana
- 16:43Speaker 5: is like she eventually, so there's another Oxana in nineteen
- 16:47Speaker 5: ninety four Bayoul.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Yeah, so like two three years after she wins gold,
- 16:54Speaker 5: she gets a duy Akxana Bayola. Yes, and this other
- 16:57Speaker 5: Oxana her name's Oxana Grieshook. She's won the Olympics in
- 17:01Speaker 5: ninety four and she's still skating. So she's like has
- 17:04Speaker 5: more titles in ice dance, right, this this same Axana
- 17:07Speaker 5: who had her head smashed at Spago.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Okay, so she's not with the guy anymore though, No,
- 17:13Speaker 3: she's do over him.
- 17:14Speaker 2: She's moved on.
- 17:14Speaker 5: Yes, she's moved on because the wife called her and said.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Hey, get the fuck away from my husband.
- 17:20Speaker 5: No, he's having an affair on you with some other
- 17:24Speaker 5: younger girl at the rink.
- 17:25Speaker 3: And her name is also Oksana Tatiyanakana, Olgana Olga and yes,
- 17:33Speaker 3: okay for Russian female names.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yes, the only four.
- 17:38Speaker 5: So she's like, okay, that's fucked up, and she now
- 17:44Speaker 5: is like successful. I told you about this other Oxana
- 17:47Speaker 5: that's you know, Oxana Bayoul do u I okay? So
- 17:52Speaker 5: this Oxana Grishuk, the ice dancer. She wants to go
- 17:57Speaker 5: into Hollywood and you know she's from the Soviet Union.
- 18:00Speaker 5: She's in like Placid. I think she's watching a lot
- 18:02Speaker 5: of MTV haircut, bleach, blonde, Bindi. She looks like when
- 18:08Speaker 5: Sefani lots of MTV going on, okay, and she wants.
- 18:13Speaker 2: To be like a Hollywood star.
- 18:14Speaker 5: But she's upset because you know there's she's Oxana, but
- 18:18Speaker 5: everyone's getting her confused with the other.
- 18:21Speaker 3: He's already who's a success and has notoriety in a
- 18:24Speaker 3: different way now too, Yes and thunder so to speak.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:29Speaker 5: So she gives this interview where and like I said,
- 18:32Speaker 5: this is the golden age of figure skating drama. So
- 18:37Speaker 5: she gives this interview and she's like, I've legally changed
- 18:40Speaker 5: my name to Pasha because my name should be reflective
- 18:44Speaker 5: of who I am, and I don't want to be
- 18:47Speaker 5: confused with Oxana Bayule because she's a fat hasband and
- 18:52Speaker 5: a criminal.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Well does it get any better? No?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Well, and we have a sixth name too, Pasha Pasha.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So is Aksana Bayul a criminal?
- 19:05Speaker 5: Well no, but she just called her a criminal, yeah,
- 19:08Speaker 5: because she had a dui.
- 19:09Speaker 3: But that's not a criminal. If your name, I mean,
- 19:11Speaker 3: if you've been arrested. A criminal is somebody who like
- 19:14Speaker 3: that's not a it's it's a crime. But would you
- 19:16Speaker 3: call someone who gets a DUI a criminal?
- 19:18Speaker 6: No?
- 19:19Speaker 2: I mean, I guess, I think.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I mean, of course I get it, I get it,
- 19:24Speaker 3: but I just want to make sure, like I've had
- 19:26Speaker 3: a DUI?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Am I a criminal? No? I think it's been You're
- 19:29Speaker 2: not attacks like.
- 19:31Speaker 5: That was another key that we all will be right.
- 19:34Speaker 5: But she wasn't even there yet, like the metals still warm, right,
- 19:38Speaker 5: you know, because it's just been a few years. If
- 19:39Speaker 5: that has been, I mean, that's really the mud slinging.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Was they don't do that anymore. That sounds glorious.
- 19:46Speaker 3: It was What about Share writing your profile for your
- 19:49Speaker 3: time one hundred most influential?
- 19:51Speaker 2: How did that happen? Did you be Chair? Have you
- 19:53Speaker 2: met Shair? I have met Chair.
- 19:55Speaker 5: I had no idea I was going to be on
- 19:58Speaker 5: that one hundred most Influential People of twenty eighteen and
- 20:03Speaker 5: I found out and then I found out that Share
- 20:07Speaker 5: had written my write up.
- 20:09Speaker 2: When I got the magazine.
- 20:11Speaker 5: I had no idea, and I obviously, like, you read
- 20:15Speaker 5: it and you're like, this can't be like the Share
- 20:17Speaker 5: And it was the Share.
- 20:19Speaker 3: That's weird because I was on that list once and
- 20:21Speaker 3: I could have sworn they asked me who I wanted
- 20:23Speaker 3: to write mine?
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're like famous. Oh you think they tell
- 20:27Speaker 2: some of the people and not the rest of the people.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Right, But I mean to get Share to write it,
- 20:31Speaker 3: that means somebody had to go out on your behalf
- 20:33Speaker 3: and ask Share to write it. And she would have
- 20:34Speaker 3: had to have been a fan. Why she's just going
- 20:36Speaker 3: to write a random letter for somebody she doesn't know.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean, you have a point. What was it like
- 20:40Speaker 2: when you met Share?
- 20:41Speaker 3: Because I've met Share before and I felt like I
- 20:43Speaker 3: was dealing with a non real person.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I felt like I was like Madame Tusson's like come alive.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like night at the Museum.
- 20:50Speaker 3: I didn't want to take any more steps closer because
- 20:53Speaker 3: I didn't know where it began and where it's like, Yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 3: I was like the hair and the face it was
- 20:58Speaker 3: she was we were in Vegas.
- 20:59Speaker 2: It was bad stage up after her show in Vegas.
- 21:01Speaker 3: This was so many years ago, and I remember just
- 21:04Speaker 3: looking at her and thinking is it okay?
- 21:07Speaker 2: Like is she okay? Is it okay?
- 21:09Speaker 7: Where is it? Like?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Does it? Do I touch her?
- 21:12Speaker 5: It's very like it's abba hologram, because like a hologram
- 21:16Speaker 5: in person, she looks like a hologram.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yes, And so somebody was like rushing.
- 21:20Speaker 5: They're like, you have to meet Share, and so like
- 21:22Speaker 5: they bring me over to her and she's like, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 5: it's it was the premiere of like the Share show,
- 21:27Speaker 5: like the Broadway play, and I'm like, hi, Share and
- 21:32Speaker 5: there and she's like hello, like you know, she's one
- 21:34Speaker 5: of the animatronics from like Chuck E Cheese, just like
- 21:37Speaker 5: waving and then like I hear somebody whisper scream in
- 21:40Speaker 5: her ear and they're like, it's the skater you wrote
- 21:43Speaker 5: the piece about him, and she like lights up, and
- 21:45Speaker 5: so I gave her a hug. And when I gave
- 21:46Speaker 5: her a hug, I've never felt anybody so corseted, so tight, so.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Wound up like a geisha like wound. Yes, I felt
- 21:55Speaker 2: like one loose thread. Share would have been all on.
- 21:58Speaker 1: The floor, like they'na say you felt the missing ribs
- 22:00Speaker 1: or something.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I couldn't feel. She was hard to the touch, but
- 22:06Speaker 2: she was very nice.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I can imagine that that would be something you
- 22:09Speaker 3: have to wrap like a doll and then you put
- 22:12Speaker 3: shoes on it and you're like take one foot forward,
- 22:14Speaker 3: one step forward, because when you see her dancing, like
- 22:16Speaker 3: just as recently as this last in the last few months,
- 22:18Speaker 3: she was at some event and I was like, wow,
- 22:20Speaker 3: Shares on stage wearing pantyhose and moving. I mean, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 3: she's not doing triple soucals or anything, but she was
- 22:28Speaker 3: fucking moving.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And I'm like, I mean, she's moving more than
- 22:32Speaker 2: I can move.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Right in this case, she's like getting fully decked the
- 22:35Speaker 5: thing and she and.
- 22:36Speaker 2: She's getting fucked or plucked, I should say, because.
- 22:39Speaker 1: She's got that young boyfriend who's like thirty years old
- 22:41Speaker 1: having a great time.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Let me ask you a question about when you came
- 22:44Speaker 3: out before, because you came out.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Is it twenty sixteen, twenty eighteen? You came out twenty
- 22:49Speaker 2: sixteen and then twenty eighteen were the Olympics.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Yes, So I actually I have a friend, her name's
- 22:53Speaker 5: Ashley Wagner, and in like twenty fourteen, she was going
- 22:57Speaker 5: to the Olympics in twenty fourteen, and they asked her
- 22:59Speaker 5: and she was like very outspoken about how she didn't
- 23:03Speaker 5: think Russia had come out with this like anti gaye
- 23:05Speaker 5: propagandla and it's twenty fourteen. A lot has happened in
- 23:08Speaker 5: the like last like eleven years of people speaking up
- 23:12Speaker 5: and they ask every athlete about you know, what do
- 23:15Speaker 5: they think about it? And everyone's like, well, you know,
- 23:17Speaker 5: I'm not from there. Who am I to knock their
- 23:20Speaker 5: traditions and whatever. And my friend Ashley was like super
- 23:23Speaker 5: out spoken. She was like, it's fucked up. And I remember,
- 23:27Speaker 5: like I had just come out of like the closet
- 23:29Speaker 5: myself like a few years earlier, and I wasn't out
- 23:32Speaker 5: like publicly or anything like that, and I was asked
- 23:36Speaker 5: about it, and I kind of skirted around the question,
- 23:39Speaker 5: and then eventually I didn't make that Olympic team, and
- 23:42Speaker 5: I in the years leading up to the twenty eighteen
- 23:45Speaker 5: Olympics was like, Okay, if I'm going to skate for
- 23:48Speaker 5: more years, I'm going to do everything that I wish
- 23:50Speaker 5: that I had done before. And I really regretted not
- 23:53Speaker 5: saying anything. And so in twenty fifteen I decided to
- 23:56Speaker 5: like come out publicly. You know, I have not an
- 24:00Speaker 5: Olympian or like a national champion yet at all, like
- 24:03Speaker 5: so nobody really cared. So it's like, okay, we know,
- 24:05Speaker 5: like nobody cared. It was for me like personally, and
- 24:09Speaker 5: so when I had already been out for like a
- 24:11Speaker 5: few publicly for a few years, and then when I
- 24:14Speaker 5: had made the Olympic team in twenty eighteen, that's when
- 24:16Speaker 5: I found out. It was like, oh, you're the first
- 24:19Speaker 5: openly gay American athlete.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So you didn't do it with the intention of being
- 24:24Speaker 3: the first openly gay no male figures.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Possible that that would be the twenty eight Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Also like my question because I think it's I
- 24:34Speaker 3: feel as a public figure that it is so important
- 24:37Speaker 3: and this is people disagree with me all the time
- 24:40Speaker 3: on it, but it's so important to be honest about
- 24:42Speaker 3: who you are because you don't understand how many people
- 24:45Speaker 3: you're helping. And that's not necessarily anyone's burden to carry,
- 24:48Speaker 3: Like you don't have to be a public person. And
- 24:50Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, like, yes, I have to
- 24:52Speaker 3: come out with every secret. But it's like if you're
- 24:54Speaker 3: if somebody, if you're part of a marginalized community and
- 24:57Speaker 3: you have a huge platform, it's kind of like, I
- 25:00Speaker 3: feel a personal responsibility to make sure that you are
- 25:03Speaker 3: loud and outspoken about it for everybody coming after you.
- 25:06Speaker 2: How do you feel about that?
- 25:08Speaker 5: I feel that like well, as an athlete and when
- 25:11Speaker 5: you go to the Olympics, it's like your time to
- 25:13Speaker 5: share your story and who you are, and sometimes you
- 25:16Speaker 5: just have a few minutes to do that during your performance,
- 25:19Speaker 5: during your interviews. And if I wanted to like perform
- 25:22Speaker 5: and I wanted people to connect with me, I it
- 25:25Speaker 5: was incredibly important that they knew who I was and
- 25:28Speaker 5: what I stood for and what was important to me.
- 25:31Speaker 5: And one of those cases was, like, you know, when
- 25:33Speaker 5: you're getting ready for the Olympics, there's this talk of
- 25:36Speaker 5: like enjoy the experience as much as possible, and for me,
- 25:40Speaker 5: I sat down and I thought, like, what does that
- 25:42Speaker 5: even mean? And it meant that, like, listen, I'm going
- 25:46Speaker 5: to go I'm going to skate great, I'm going to
- 25:47Speaker 5: do everything I can to be in the best shape
- 25:49Speaker 5: of my life. But I also want to enjoy myself
- 25:52Speaker 5: and I love the entertainment stuff, like I love connecting
- 25:55Speaker 5: with people, I love talking with people, I love making
- 25:58Speaker 5: people laugh. And so that means that I'm going to
- 26:01Speaker 5: go into and every interview and I'm going to act
- 26:04Speaker 5: like they're my best friend, and I'm going to answer
- 26:07Speaker 5: questions super honestly like I would if we were like
- 26:10Speaker 5: at dinner and I got asked this one question of
- 26:13Speaker 5: like what do you think of Mike Pence leading the
- 26:15Speaker 5: athlete delegation? And I remember like giving that interview in
- 26:18Speaker 5: my car at the rink, which is like in a
- 26:20Speaker 5: strip mall. So it's like I'm sitting in my car
- 26:22Speaker 5: at the Taco Bell light from like it's like pouring.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I look beautiful, by the way, It's just like gorgeous.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Beautiful right now, by the way. Yeah, your skin is
- 26:30Speaker 3: what is the word for that? Alabaster? Yeah, alabaster.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That is absolutely my like golf, Yes, of course it is. Well,
- 26:38Speaker 2: you're reaching it. I mean you're ascending. Thank you. Wow,
- 26:42Speaker 2: I'm off track now, I know, but try and stay focused, okay,
- 26:46Speaker 2: Taco Bell. Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 5: And I remember I was asked this question, and I
- 26:51Speaker 5: remember thinking in that moment it was like just answer
- 26:54Speaker 5: it honestly. And I answered it and was like, I
- 26:57Speaker 5: don't think that he like stay ends up for like
- 27:00Speaker 5: every athlete. I don't think he should be leading the
- 27:03Speaker 5: athlete delegation. Somebody who was like a proponent of conversion
- 27:07Speaker 5: therapy doesn't represent me. Somebody who thinks that I'm mentally
- 27:12Speaker 5: unwell does not represent who I am. And I said it,
- 27:16Speaker 5: and it was just like okay, great, like we move
- 27:18Speaker 5: in and like how are you feeling? Like is the
- 27:20Speaker 5: next question? And then like a few days later it
- 27:24Speaker 5: was like okay, That's when I really felt like the
- 27:26Speaker 5: momentum of like what I had said, because I was
- 27:28Speaker 5: just like some nobody was not favorite for.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Gold or whatever.
- 27:31Speaker 5: It's this old gay guy going to like the Olympics
- 27:34Speaker 5: for the first time.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 27:36Speaker 5: And I remember, like I was, you know, we have
- 27:38Speaker 5: all of our music like downloaded or for our programs
- 27:40Speaker 5: on our phones, so like I would always put my
- 27:42Speaker 5: phone on airplane mode when I was training so I
- 27:45Speaker 5: could play my music and my mom wouldn't be like
- 27:47Speaker 5: calling me in the middle of like wop yeah exactly
- 27:50Speaker 5: exactly my famous routine just walked up. Yes, And so
- 27:54Speaker 5: I turned my phone back on and I have like
- 27:56Speaker 5: thirty missed calls, and I'm like, what's going on? So
- 28:01Speaker 5: I find out I call my agent at the time,
- 28:03Speaker 5: and he's like the Office of the Vice President wants
- 28:06Speaker 5: to like they want to set up a meeting, and
- 28:09Speaker 5: I'm like for what, And so you know, I've.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Got a tutorial right to send me to camp? Yeah,
- 28:17Speaker 2: and so to.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Take him to camp with you because I believe he's
- 28:22Speaker 3: gay too.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I think he has a tendency. Can't be that homophobic
- 28:25Speaker 2: unless you're gay, it doesn't make any sense.
- 28:26Speaker 3: No, it's always the case. Yeah, I mean, I'm just
- 28:29Speaker 3: dating always. I'm platitudinizing right now. It's always the case.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It's always the case.
- 28:33Speaker 5: So I was dealing with like the communications person at
- 28:36Speaker 5: US Figure Skating as well, because they went to like
- 28:39Speaker 5: the Olympic Committee who forwarded them to US Figure Skating,
- 28:41Speaker 5: like our governing body. And she was this lesbian woman, Barb, obviously,
- 28:49Speaker 5: and she's like.
- 28:50Speaker 2: So, kid, what are you going to do?
- 28:52Speaker 5: And I said, Barb, tell Mike Pens to fuck himself,
- 28:56Speaker 5: like I'm not gonna do this meeting, like I have
- 28:59Speaker 5: to practice. And she's like, I'm not going to say
- 29:02Speaker 5: it in those terms, but I love you. Hung up
- 29:05Speaker 5: And so then that was that until I got to
- 29:08Speaker 5: the Olympics, where like it had leaked that they had
- 29:10Speaker 5: reached out and they tried to set up this meeting
- 29:14Speaker 5: and I denied it, and then it became like a
- 29:16Speaker 5: much bigger story once I had gotten there.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so then and did so you never ever had
- 29:22Speaker 2: any interaction with him no, and I never will God willing.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Oh not.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Well, he seems to be in the background right now.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I'm surprised they haven't arrested him yet. It's shocking, isn't it.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Actually it is shocking. Are you ready to take some callers.
- 29:35Speaker 3: We're going to take a break and we're going to
- 29:36Speaker 3: be right back with Adam Rippen. And then we're going
- 29:38Speaker 3: to take some callers and we're back with Adam Rippin. Adam,
- 29:46Speaker 3: you're so delightful.
- 29:47Speaker 2: I'm going to just double check pronunciation for your last name.
- 29:50Speaker 2: As long as you say Adam Rippon, Rippin, it doesn't matter.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yes, we're going to take a break and we'll be
- 29:55Speaker 3: right back with Adam Rippan.
- 29:57Speaker 2: And we're back with Adam Rippan.
- 29:59Speaker 5: You have to say your name right, it doesn't I
- 30:01Speaker 5: feel like that part doesn't.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I'm not a bunch of different Yeah, Adam Rippon is
- 30:05Speaker 2: your name? Okay? Okay, thank you. Don't suck it up again.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I won't. Yeah, okay, So.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Don't doesn't that make you wish that like I had
- 30:12Speaker 5: a name that was like simpler. No, I don't feel
- 30:15Speaker 5: any like connection to Ripon or rip In. Yeah, I
- 30:19Speaker 5: feel like handler is so like rolls right off.
- 30:21Speaker 2: The hand hand handler or hand job. Yeah, I wouldn't
- 30:26Speaker 2: mind hand jobs.
- 30:27Speaker 3: You don't ever have to go handler like sometimes I
- 30:29Speaker 3: have to enunciate handler really yeah, I think is I
- 30:32Speaker 3: have a problem with d's and L handler?
- 30:36Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 30:36Speaker 1: I guess you're right because handler handler sounds like you're
- 30:39Speaker 1: missing with the D handler.
- 30:40Speaker 5: Because I feel like if I saw rippon, i'd say
- 30:43Speaker 5: rip in like it's not I'm not saying like baton
- 30:46Speaker 5: for like button right.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Like a aren't you saying baton? I am never mind
- 30:52Speaker 2: red handed. Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Well, our first callers today are Jackie and Hope.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Actually we need these on. Is it Jackie or Hope?
- 31:00Speaker 2: I mean's fun you'll see why.
- 31:03Speaker 1: So Jackie is the one who wrote in and said,
- 31:05Speaker 1: Dear Chelsea, My wife and I have been married for
- 31:08Speaker 1: almost eleven years together for thirteen. Several months ago, my
- 31:11Speaker 1: wife had a coworker who was very forthcoming in her attraction.
- 31:14Speaker 2: To both of us.
- 31:16Speaker 7: It definitely threw.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Us for a loop, considering that we've never considered ourselves
- 31:19Speaker 1: the polytype or open to other partners.
- 31:21Speaker 2: But we opened ourselves up to the idea.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Things got a little weird and we decided to take
- 31:25Speaker 1: some space and not talk. Fast forward six months later
- 31:28Speaker 1: and we found ourselves all at better places in our lives,
- 31:31Speaker 1: so we felt we could revisit the conversation. At first,
- 31:34Speaker 1: we thought we'd just have some fun times in the
- 31:35Speaker 1: bedroom and just be friends aside from that, but we
- 31:38Speaker 1: quickly realized that we really liked her and started forming
- 31:41Speaker 1: more of an emotional connection as well as a physical one.
- 31:44Speaker 1: My wife is more used to sharing me, considering that
- 31:46Speaker 1: when we started dating, I was a divorcee with three kids,
- 31:49Speaker 1: and I was also dating another girl who was in
- 31:51Speaker 1: a polyamorous marriage. Me, on the other hand, I've always
- 31:54Speaker 1: had her all to myself and all of her attention,
- 31:57Speaker 1: so as we move forward, I can tell that she
- 31:59Speaker 1: isn't experience and seeing the same insecurities that I am.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I also really like this girl.
- 32:03Speaker 1: We connect on so many levels, and I feel myself
- 32:06Speaker 1: missing her and wanting to spend more time together. But
- 32:08Speaker 1: I also catch myself feeling a little jealous at times
- 32:10Speaker 1: of their relationship. For the most part, we've spent most
- 32:12Speaker 1: of our time together as a threesome, but it's the
- 32:15Speaker 1: moments when they see each other or talk when I'm
- 32:16Speaker 1: not around that I worry they'll form a stronger bond
- 32:19Speaker 1: than my wife and I. I find myself getting annoyed
- 32:21Speaker 1: with myself for not being able to just be as
- 32:23Speaker 1: fluid as they are. And they're both doing everything right,
- 32:25Speaker 1: saying the right things, showing the right amount of affection,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and I really love the situation for the most part.
- 32:30Speaker 1: It has absolutely enhanced our marriage with all of the
- 32:33Speaker 1: communication and transparency required to even make such a scenario work.
- 32:36Speaker 2: So why am I still.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Having these feelings from time to time? I can imagine
- 32:40Speaker 1: having this beautiful relationship together as a threaple, and I
- 32:42Speaker 1: really want it all to work out, So any advice
- 32:44Speaker 1: to get me out of my head and out of
- 32:46Speaker 1: my own way would be amazing. Sincerely, CHECKI, Hi, Checky, Jackie, Jackie.
- 32:53Speaker 3: And Hope.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Check Republic. I just have to say this about throubles.
- 32:59Speaker 3: If you up for this situation and most of this
- 33:03Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, you have to be okay
- 33:05Speaker 3: with every aspect. I know that doesn't make it okay,
- 33:07Speaker 3: but you have to have a conversation with yourself every
- 33:10Speaker 3: time these feelings come up that you just said yourself
- 33:14Speaker 3: in the letter that the good outweighs the bad, and
- 33:16Speaker 3: it's just your insecurity, So for in order for you
- 33:19Speaker 3: to say yes to this situation, it's almost like there's
- 33:21Speaker 3: not really room for your insecurity because you can't extinguish
- 33:25Speaker 3: your insecurity, but you can constantly just remind yourself that
- 33:29Speaker 3: these are thoughts in your head.
- 33:30Speaker 2: You have an understanding.
- 33:31Speaker 3: You guys have an open understanding and arrangement, and it's
- 33:35Speaker 3: almost like being with somebody and expecting them to cheat
- 33:38Speaker 3: on you every single time you're not with them.
- 33:40Speaker 2: What's the point of that.
- 33:42Speaker 3: You've already said yes to this situation, so you really
- 33:45Speaker 3: have to kind of go at it with open arms
- 33:47Speaker 3: and hope and assume that the best is yet to come,
- 33:50Speaker 3: and assume the best everyone has their best intentions because
- 33:54Speaker 3: coming from a place of self doubt or being non trustworthy,
- 33:57Speaker 3: and it's all self doubt.
- 33:58Speaker 2: It's from what I can gather from you.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Letter isn't moving anyone in any direction, but just like
- 34:03Speaker 3: leaving you feeling not great about everything.
- 34:06Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that as each day gets easier, so
- 34:09Speaker 8: that's a plus. And I think in the beginning it
- 34:11Speaker 8: was more the fact that they had a prior work
- 34:14Speaker 8: relationship that I felt like, oh, they know each other
- 34:16Speaker 8: already a little bit better and so like not sure
- 34:19Speaker 8: if I was gonna get on that same level. But
- 34:21Speaker 8: like with time, you know, we are finding that we
- 34:24Speaker 8: have a lot more stuff in common. So like that
- 34:26Speaker 8: has been helpful.
- 34:27Speaker 3: But but it's also you have to like have a
- 34:29Speaker 3: lot of respect for yourself in the fact that you
- 34:32Speaker 3: are unique and what you have to offer, nobody else
- 34:34Speaker 3: has to offer, no matter what the dynamic, no matter
- 34:37Speaker 3: if they spend more time together than you do.
- 34:39Speaker 2: She doesn't have what you have.
- 34:41Speaker 3: She is a completely different person and offers a completely
- 34:43Speaker 3: different set of excitement than you do. It's not one
- 34:47Speaker 3: is more than the other, it's one is different.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Than the other.
- 34:51Speaker 7: So that's what she tells me.
- 34:52Speaker 2: So like you have to really.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Work on your self love and your self respect because
- 34:58Speaker 3: that's what it's all about. It's about no knowing that
- 35:00Speaker 3: you have high value and that you're giving high value,
- 35:03Speaker 3: and that you're not competing with anybody in the situation.
- 35:06Speaker 8: Yeah, no, I definitely don't think it feels like a competition.
- 35:09Speaker 8: I think it's feels or was feeling a little bit
- 35:11Speaker 8: more like fomo. I guess in a way like right,
- 35:14Speaker 8: what am I missing? Or which is also stupid, like
- 35:16Speaker 8: fomo is stupid. I you know, what do you think, Adam?
- 35:20Speaker 5: I mean, I think that like in this situation, when
- 35:23Speaker 5: you're feeling these like different doubts and insecurities, maybe you
- 35:26Speaker 5: never wrapped your head around a polyamorous relationship before and
- 35:30Speaker 5: so it's it's new to you. And I think that
- 35:32Speaker 5: like one thing that you know, when we have these insecurities,
- 35:36Speaker 5: sometimes like the scariest thing is just saying them out loud.
- 35:39Speaker 5: So I feel like to keep everything like out in
- 35:42Speaker 5: the open so that you're not holding onto anything just
- 35:44Speaker 5: thinking like, oh, just it's stupid that I'm thinking that.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Just say the stupid thing and get it now.
- 35:49Speaker 7: And I have been.
- 35:49Speaker 8: I've been very vocal with like, you know, just so
- 35:52Speaker 8: you know, because I think it does help to put
- 35:54Speaker 8: that out there. I have actually had open relationships with
- 35:57Speaker 8: every partner I've been with, but it's different this time because,
- 36:00Speaker 8: like you know, we've been together longer than any other
- 36:03Speaker 8: relationship I've had, and it was I think it's just
- 36:04Speaker 8: a little scarier opening up our marriage because like it's
- 36:07Speaker 8: on a different level than any other relationship.
- 36:09Speaker 7: So I have hopes that everything is gonna work out.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I think just like that constant check in with
- 36:16Speaker 5: like all partners, just to make sure everybody's always, like
- 36:19Speaker 5: constantly on the same page, because I think some of
- 36:22Speaker 5: that fear is that maybe there is a miscommunication or
- 36:25Speaker 5: maybe somebody's feeling something that somebody's not. And I think
- 36:28Speaker 5: that like just a constant check in between the three.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Of you, but a regular it's like a schedule check in,
- 36:34Speaker 3: not a constant check in, because I feel like it's
- 36:36Speaker 3: not every time something comes up for you, because you
- 36:38Speaker 3: have to figure out a way to self soothe. Also,
- 36:41Speaker 3: you have to understand that the voices in your head
- 36:43Speaker 3: sometimes are just silly.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Then that's all they are.
- 36:45Speaker 3: There's a difference between like, you know, being impulsive and
- 36:47Speaker 3: being instinctual. Just because you feel left out, then you're like,
- 36:51Speaker 3: you don't have to react to that. Then you could go, oh, yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 3: you know why I feel left out. This has happened
- 36:55Speaker 3: before when they're together.
- 36:56Speaker 2: This is just me.
- 36:57Speaker 3: This is like the negative narrative I have in my head.
- 37:00Speaker 3: That's not happening. I'm safe, I'm in a healthy, loving relationship.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Everything's out on the table. And then you talk yourself
- 37:06Speaker 3: out of it most times and you're fine if you
- 37:08Speaker 3: really have a ghet or of feeling and you're like
- 37:10Speaker 3: something's off, then that's a different situation. But what I
- 37:13Speaker 3: suspect and what I'm hearing is that you just have
- 37:16Speaker 3: you know, this kind of negative self not self talk,
- 37:19Speaker 3: but this kind of negative idea of what's happening without you,
- 37:22Speaker 3: that you're missing out, And I think you can talk
- 37:24Speaker 3: yourself out of that, like you can counsel yourself to
- 37:27Speaker 3: make that going. Oh, this is what happens when they
- 37:30Speaker 3: go away. Okay, this is what happens when they're on
- 37:32Speaker 3: a date. Oh, I'm doing my thing, Okay, I'm going.
- 37:35Speaker 8: To be You're not doing any of that separately. We
- 37:37Speaker 8: have agreed that, like we're the our dynamic. What we
- 37:40Speaker 8: want is like the attraction is it's like the three
- 37:42Speaker 8: of us. So it's a little bit more unique and
- 37:44Speaker 8: where like we don't have intentions of dating separately apart
- 37:48Speaker 8: from like each other whatever. But there are moments where
- 37:51Speaker 8: like there might be a work thing that they might
- 37:53Speaker 8: have to discuss or like you know, she and I
- 37:55Speaker 8: go do something together. But when we have those moments
- 37:57Speaker 8: one on one, it's more of like a platonic friendly nature.
- 38:00Speaker 8: We're not like doing anything physical or whatever. Unless we're
- 38:03Speaker 8: all together. And I think that makes everybody feel more
- 38:05Speaker 8: comfortable because that was the attraction on her part, was
- 38:08Speaker 8: like us together. It wasn't like oh I have the
- 38:10Speaker 8: hots for you or I have the hots for your wife.
- 38:12Speaker 8: It was like you guys are you know? So just
- 38:14Speaker 8: kind of like went here WiFi. Do you have anything
- 38:17Speaker 8: to say for yourself? You've been very quiet.
- 38:19Speaker 7: I usually always am. They don't let me get a
- 38:22Speaker 7: word in.
- 38:23Speaker 6: So that's kind of been my biggest hurdle is I
- 38:26Speaker 6: now have two of these and they gang up holding them.
- 38:32Speaker 7: I you know, I mean I'm at max capacity right now.
- 38:35Speaker 7: Let's just say it.
- 38:36Speaker 6: But yeah, Like I was used to sharing her and
- 38:38Speaker 6: sharing partners beforehand, so I think like just seeing them
- 38:41Speaker 6: bond has been great. Like I get a sense of
- 38:44Speaker 6: happiness when I see them being happy or just connecting,
- 38:50Speaker 6: because I feel like that's that's the biggest thing that
- 38:52Speaker 6: draws me to this, is it's a bonus. I don't
- 38:55Speaker 6: look at it as like breaking down the pie and
- 38:58Speaker 6: like we're getting less of each other. It's just more
- 39:01Speaker 6: yeah mm hmmm, yeah, Yeah, I mean I'm taking it
- 39:05Speaker 6: a day at a time. That's all I can say. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 6: I didn't even know about.
- 39:08Speaker 7: This whole call in thing. She forwarded me an email.
- 39:11Speaker 6: She told me what she did, and I was like,
- 39:13Speaker 6: I would like to sit on this, even though I'm
- 39:17Speaker 6: mostly here for technical support, but i'm usually a few
- 39:21Speaker 6: a few words. They don't let me get any any
- 39:24Speaker 6: words in other words, Okay, Well, you.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Guys seem like you all respect each other and love
- 39:27Speaker 3: each other, so I think everything's going to be fine.
- 39:29Speaker 3: I think you just have to get those little voices
- 39:31Speaker 3: out of your head, and you do that by exercising
- 39:34Speaker 3: your self soothing your self love and your self respect.
- 39:38Speaker 3: There's nothing, there's nothing to see. It's kind of like
- 39:40Speaker 3: there's nothing to see here.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Yeah, like even body language together, and like the way
- 39:45Speaker 1: you're both looking at each other when the other like
- 39:47Speaker 1: you guys have something really special.
- 39:49Speaker 2: So I don't think there's a.
- 39:50Speaker 8: Lot that's I think that betther part of it too,
- 39:52Speaker 8: for me was that like I have done this before
- 39:55Speaker 8: with other, you know, relationships, and it came so easy
- 39:58Speaker 8: to me, and it's like this time, it's like I
- 40:01Speaker 8: think it's because it felt like there's so much more
- 40:03Speaker 8: at stake and so much more to lose.
- 40:04Speaker 7: She'll share this and you're hard to show. I mean,
- 40:08Speaker 7: I got a real, real prize on my hands here,
- 40:10Speaker 7: but so yeah, that's part of it.
- 40:12Speaker 8: It's like, am I an idiot for doing this because
- 40:15Speaker 8: like they have so much more to lose, like you know,
- 40:18Speaker 8: but I'm like no, because I don't know.
- 40:20Speaker 7: I'm trying to just be organic with it.
- 40:21Speaker 8: It's like an opportunity presented itself, and I feel like
- 40:23Speaker 8: we owe it to ourselves to explore it. That's kind
- 40:25Speaker 8: of where we're at with the thing, because we think
- 40:27Speaker 8: they're looking for it by any by any means.
- 40:31Speaker 5: So yeah, I think you do owe it to yourselves
- 40:33Speaker 5: and just enjoy it, you know, experience.
- 40:37Speaker 8: We're recent empty nesters, so it's just like the timing
- 40:39Speaker 8: and all of it just seems like what are we
- 40:42Speaker 8: Why should we not see what happens?
- 40:44Speaker 7: Why not? Yea, so well?
- 40:46Speaker 2: Will you check in with us in a few months?
- 40:48Speaker 7: Absolutely, it was good to do that.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Yeah, don't care from you again?
- 40:52Speaker 3: Love it Okay, Bye, ladies, Nice to you so much.
- 40:55Speaker 7: Nice to meet you.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Bye another happy throat wile served. Have you ever been
- 41:00Speaker 2: part of the threat ball?
- 41:01Speaker 6: No?
- 41:02Speaker 2: Do you have friends who are Yeah? I think so.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Are you in a relationship yeah, I'm married. Oh oh god,
- 41:08Speaker 2: how's that going? Good? Do you have chick kids?
- 41:10Speaker 5: No?
- 41:11Speaker 2: I can't even say it. I'm like, well, I feel
- 41:13Speaker 2: the same way. It's like I stutter when I say kids. No,
- 41:16Speaker 2: I no, I don't I don't want kids. Yeah. Good,
- 41:19Speaker 2: it's kind of what's the point the world is about
- 41:22Speaker 2: to explode? Well, I know, bad timing, Yeah, to have children.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Anytime I see a pregnant woman, I just am so
- 41:28Speaker 3: confid you need a ride and like yeah to mars.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Well, our next caller is Catherine with a K and
- 41:36Speaker 1: this is a long email. I just want you to
- 41:39Speaker 1: It's a very long email, but kind of.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Like it all needs to be there, so okay. Sometimes
- 41:43Speaker 2: emails I have trouble for the same Yeah, well you through?
- 41:47Speaker 7: Yeah, hold her hand.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I am in a conundrum that I don't know how
- 41:51Speaker 1: to get out of, but won't.
- 41:52Speaker 2: At this time for one main reason. Let me explain.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I've known this guy since twenty nineteen. We met on
- 41:58Speaker 1: Ashley Madison and started at three year sugar baby.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Sugar daddy relationship.
- 42:03Speaker 1: We hung out once a week the majority of the arrangement,
- 42:05Speaker 1: with more time when our schedules allowed. We lived an
- 42:08Speaker 1: hour from one another, and this dynamic was great for
- 42:10Speaker 1: both of us because he's a workaholic and I was
- 42:12Speaker 1: just as busy being a single mom to my two
- 42:15Speaker 1: sons while working full time and dealing with their unhelpful
- 42:17Speaker 1: co parent dad. Obviously, because we met on Ashley Madison,
- 42:20Speaker 1: he was married with two children of his own. I
- 42:23Speaker 1: knew this, he was transparent about it, and it worked
- 42:25Speaker 1: out perfectly for me, as married men tend to be
- 42:28Speaker 1: too busy for a real relationship. Call me terrible, but
- 42:30Speaker 1: that dynamic works best for me at the stage of
- 42:32Speaker 1: my life. From the beginning, we both said this was
- 42:35Speaker 1: strictly business. Both our sexual needs were met, I received
- 42:38Speaker 1: financial compensation, and we respected the boundaries surrounding his married
- 42:41Speaker 1: life and my children. Then, of course, he fell in
- 42:44Speaker 1: love and wanted more, while I fell in love too,
- 42:46Speaker 1: I didn't want more. I wanted the arrangement to be
- 42:49Speaker 1: kept the same, the main reason being I didn't trust
- 42:51Speaker 1: that he wouldn't do the same thing to me that
- 42:53Speaker 1: he was currently doing to his wife. My marriage also
- 42:55Speaker 1: ended because my ex husband did the exact same thing
- 42:57Speaker 1: to me. It's crazy how I was willingly to be
- 43:00Speaker 1: the other woman. I own my shit, and therapy has
- 43:02Speaker 1: been great for me. During our initial three year relationship,
- 43:05Speaker 1: he never once mentioned leaving his wife, but did state
- 43:08Speaker 1: that they should get divorced. He told me they weren't
- 43:09Speaker 1: sleeping together.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Believable. I don't know.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Divorce is messy since he was married. I met someone else,
- 43:14Speaker 1: which I didn't feel guilty about. He eventually found out
- 43:17Speaker 1: and all of a sudden decided to leave his wife.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I'm sure that this was in an effort to prove
- 43:21Speaker 1: to me he wanted to be with me.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I'm not naive. I know he would eventually do to
- 43:25Speaker 2: me what he did to his wife.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And we stopped seeing each other after in an argument
- 43:28Speaker 1: in which he said some nasty things. No one talks
- 43:30Speaker 1: to me that way. We've both moved on, or so
- 43:32Speaker 1: I thought. A couple months ago, I texted him in
- 43:35Speaker 1: a weak moment. He responded, We met up and slept
- 43:37Speaker 1: together once in April. We both wanted to do it again,
- 43:40Speaker 1: but haven't. He is divorced from his wife, currently living
- 43:42Speaker 1: with a new lady.
- 43:43Speaker 7: He claims is.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Great and he's happy. But if that's the case, why
- 43:46Speaker 2: is he meeting me? I know why.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Our sex is phenomenal. My main struggle is that I
- 43:51Speaker 1: know this is wrong. I'm not a stupid woman. I
- 43:53Speaker 1: know he's a liar and a cheater and always will be.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I put myself in that category two because my current
- 43:58Speaker 1: boyfriend has no idea. I don't want to get back together,
- 44:01Speaker 1: but I know what I like sexually, and he delivers
- 44:03Speaker 1: it every single time. I think it's purely sexually driven,
- 44:05Speaker 1: because I don't yearn for him or find myself missing him.
- 44:08Speaker 1: I only text what i'm horny to note. I am
- 44:10Speaker 1: not having grade sex with my current boyfriend. He tries,
- 44:12Speaker 1: but it's not there. So what's a lady to do.
- 44:15Speaker 1: We're only here on this earth for a short time,
- 44:17Speaker 1: we might as well have grade sex. Please give me
- 44:19Speaker 1: some advice. I admire you as a fellow boundary living,
- 44:21Speaker 1: fierce independent woman.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Boundary loving. I'm a boundary I don't have boundaries.
- 44:26Speaker 1: And then the day I emailed her, she emailed me
- 44:28Speaker 1: with an update that said, we sleve together this morning.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Phenomenal as usual.
- 44:33Speaker 1: So Hi, Hi Catherine, Hi Catherine, Hi Catherine, Hi.
- 44:37Speaker 3: This is our special guest, Adam Rippon here today and
- 44:40Speaker 3: he is here to counsel you.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yes, that was a long letter. I was being able
- 44:45Speaker 2: to pay attention.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Throughout the whole letter, there was a lot happening, a
- 44:48Speaker 3: lot of different characters.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Okay, Adam, do you want to start this one? Sure,
- 44:52Speaker 2: I'll start.
- 44:53Speaker 5: I think that you're right in thinking that, like, if
- 44:56Speaker 5: you get into a relationship with this guy, that it
- 44:59Speaker 5: will end in disappointment. It'll end up the same way
- 45:03Speaker 5: that it started. Basically, Yeah, I think you know that.
- 45:07Speaker 5: And I think that the like forbidden sort of love
- 45:10Speaker 5: and the lusts that you're able to like have with
- 45:13Speaker 5: each other can be really passionate because it is what
- 45:16Speaker 5: it is, Like you do that and it's then you
- 45:18Speaker 5: don't see each other, and it's this like really exciting,
- 45:20Speaker 5: like adrenaline pumping thing. And I think that more so
- 45:25Speaker 5: than like the sex with him, it's that rush of
- 45:27Speaker 5: adrenaline that you're feeling. And I think it's the rush.
- 45:32Speaker 5: And I think that you think of that rush, and
- 45:33Speaker 5: you think of like the thrill that like that sexual
- 45:37Speaker 5: chemistry that you guys have is so intoxicating that it's
- 45:40Speaker 5: probably making the sex better feeling better than it actually is.
- 45:45Speaker 2: And I think like when you're with your with your boyfriend, you're.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Thinking, like God, it's just it's not that exciting, well,
- 45:51Speaker 5: because it's not wrong and it's not like forbidden. So
- 45:54Speaker 5: I think it's that like adrenaline, and sometimes it's like
- 45:57Speaker 5: thinking about that will make it less exciting. If you're thinking,
- 46:00Speaker 5: it's just these chemicals like pumping into my brain making
- 46:03Speaker 5: you want to do this, What do you think, Catherine with.
- 46:05Speaker 4: The King, No, I definitely agree, that's definitely part of it.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Even when we were exclusively but maybe not exclusively on
- 46:14Speaker 4: his part, seeing each other back in twenty nineteen, it
- 46:16Speaker 4: was the same thing. I saw him once a week
- 46:18Speaker 4: and then you know, he went off and did his
- 46:20Speaker 4: life for the rest of the week and I did mine,
- 46:22Speaker 4: and then when that day came around the next week,
- 46:24Speaker 4: it was new and exciting again.
- 46:27Speaker 7: So I get that.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Part two where I struggle the most is do I
- 46:32Speaker 4: have feelings or is it just the lustiness that we
- 46:36Speaker 4: just talked about, like the fun and exciting and the wrongness,
- 46:40Speaker 4: or do I actually really care?
- 46:42Speaker 3: I think that you have to trust your female instinct,
- 46:46Speaker 3: your internal instinct, which is this guy is trouble.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Is the right voice in your head that's you've been saying.
- 46:53Speaker 3: You've said that three times in that letter in three
- 46:55Speaker 3: different ways, and you said it again with regard to
- 46:59Speaker 3: the situation, and as it stands today, we as women
- 47:02Speaker 3: need to pay attention to that inner voice. It is
- 47:05Speaker 3: protecting us. You don't may not even ever find out
- 47:08Speaker 3: what it's protecting you from. Hopefully you don't find out
- 47:12Speaker 3: what it's protecting you from. But I would just say
- 47:14Speaker 3: to everyone who's listening today, always listen to that fucking
- 47:19Speaker 3: voice that is like your internal like reader telling you no, no, no, no,
- 47:24Speaker 3: something's off here, and it's never fucking wrong. And we
- 47:29Speaker 3: instead think, oh, well, this is fun. I might have
- 47:31Speaker 3: fun with him. I mean, he's doing the same everything.
- 47:34Speaker 3: His behavior hasn't changed at all. He's got some other
- 47:36Speaker 3: woman now, and so you're now talking about having an
- 47:39Speaker 3: affair with him.
- 47:39Speaker 2: But for what you like?
- 47:41Speaker 3: Why just because it's good sex. That's not a good
- 47:44Speaker 3: enough reason.
- 47:45Speaker 4: I don't think, I know, I agree with you, And
- 47:48Speaker 4: that is the main thing. Other than and sometimes people
- 47:53Speaker 4: can play pretend attentive. Would check in things like that, right,
- 47:59Speaker 4: Things that always start at the beginning of something and
- 48:01Speaker 4: if you're lucky, continue on so you have a lasting relationship.
- 48:05Speaker 2: But eventually those things die. Yeah, but that's a chase
- 48:08Speaker 2: that's a chase.
- 48:09Speaker 3: This guy has demonstrated his behavior over the years, and
- 48:12Speaker 3: it's pretty consistent, right, And the idea that if you
- 48:16Speaker 3: were to be with him, he's going to change into
- 48:17Speaker 3: this different person is exactly what you think.
- 48:20Speaker 2: It is bullshit.
- 48:22Speaker 7: I know that.
- 48:22Speaker 4: I think I just needed to hear it from some
- 48:24Speaker 4: other people. Yeah, of course, to kind of solidify what
- 48:29Speaker 4: I already do know. So then I guess my main
- 48:32Speaker 4: question goes too, in which I know I can block
- 48:36Speaker 4: and such, How do I resist the orges to text
- 48:39Speaker 4: because A, I know he's always going to answer, and B,
- 48:43Speaker 4: like we said at the beginning, it is very very
- 48:45Speaker 4: good for whatever the reasons. Maybe the sex is very
- 48:49Speaker 4: very good.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Do you know how you're going to resist your urges
- 48:53Speaker 2: to text him?
- 48:55Speaker 7: How?
- 48:55Speaker 2: Because you're a grown ass fucking woman. You are grown
- 49:00Speaker 2: I knew you were gonna say what hello?
- 49:02Speaker 3: Because you don't feel like texting him back anymore. It's
- 49:05Speaker 3: a wrap on this guy. Forget about him. You are
- 49:08Speaker 3: a grown woman who is empowered. Give yourself a little
- 49:12Speaker 3: bit more power. You are not going to text him again.
- 49:16Speaker 3: You don't need his validation, you don't need to have
- 49:18Speaker 3: good sex with him. There are millions of men out there,
- 49:21Speaker 3: find somebody else to fuck.
- 49:23Speaker 2: You already have somebody to fuck, don't you. Isn't that
- 49:25Speaker 2: wasn't that part of the letter that you're also fucking
- 49:27Speaker 2: someone else?
- 49:29Speaker 7: I am?
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yes, so yeah, it's not as good and bad. Okay, Okay,
- 49:36Speaker 3: this guy's not the right one. Find somebody else to
- 49:38Speaker 3: tickle your fancy. I seriously, like you've said to me
- 49:42Speaker 3: in this letter enough times for me to know for
- 49:45Speaker 3: you that you need to be told to trust yourself
- 49:47Speaker 3: and trust your instincts.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Yeah you know already.
- 49:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you knew the answer all along, like
- 49:54Speaker 5: you were alluding to it throughout the whole email.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Go write down on a piece of paper that right,
- 49:58Speaker 3: I am a grown woman.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Write that down and put it on your mirror in
- 50:03Speaker 2: your bathroom.
- 50:04Speaker 3: And I want you to say that to yourself every
- 50:06Speaker 3: fucking time you have an urge, walk into the mirror,
- 50:08Speaker 3: look at that, and say to yourself in the mirror,
- 50:10Speaker 3: I am a grown ass woman.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to do that. Yeah, Okay, let's not
- 50:15Speaker 2: have this conversation again.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Okay, we will not, Okay, okay, Catherine with Okay, good
- 50:20Speaker 3: luck with everything.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Thanks for calling in.
- 50:22Speaker 7: Thank you bye.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Bye meeting on Ashley Madison. Also, I'm looking at myself
- 50:28Speaker 2: in here.
- 50:28Speaker 5: I look like Steve Harvey in this shirt, which has
- 50:31Speaker 5: been a tough.
- 50:32Speaker 2: With white face.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Yes, I mean your skin couldn't be more opposite than
- 50:37Speaker 3: Steve Harvey's.
- 50:38Speaker 2: I have to be honest with you. Similar.
- 50:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but that is a Steve Harvey shirt. Yes, that's
- 50:43Speaker 3: not what you're giving is Steve Harvey. Like you have
- 50:46Speaker 3: to really go, you have to really get in there
- 50:48Speaker 3: to figure that out.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Yeah, Ashley Madison, I almost started watching that documentary the
- 50:52Speaker 3: other night on Netflix or wherever it is, and I
- 50:54Speaker 3: was like, I don't care. I don't care about this story.
- 50:56Speaker 3: I don't care about Tawdrey. I don't like tawdry stories.
- 51:00Speaker 3: I don't like tawd Like. I tried to watch that
- 51:02Speaker 3: Poop Cruise. I'm like, this is tawdry.
- 51:04Speaker 1: The poop Cruise, Miss Netflix all about there.
- 51:07Speaker 3: There's a cruise that like lost their power in the
- 51:10Speaker 3: middle of some ocean and then everyone has a poop
- 51:13Speaker 3: it And I was like, you know what this is.
- 51:14Speaker 2: They had to poop and buckets. When you don't like
- 51:17Speaker 2: like poop, I don't like cruise. I don't like poop.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I don't like cruises. I don't I don't like festivals,
- 51:24Speaker 2: you know, whenever they're like I've never been, I will
- 51:26Speaker 2: never go. Sorry. I don't need to be like dusty,
- 51:29Speaker 2: like I don't know, sweaty and dusty and hot and
- 51:32Speaker 2: thirsty and being on drugs. It's too much of a combination,
- 51:35Speaker 2: like I want to be on You hate drugs, Yeah,
- 51:38Speaker 2: I hate drugs. I hate them. Well, should take a
- 51:42Speaker 2: break and wrap up with a quickie.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Sure, we're going to take a break and we'll be
- 51:45Speaker 3: right back with Adam Rippon. Am I saying it now?
- 51:51Speaker 3: I or even too much?
- 51:53Speaker 6: No?
- 51:53Speaker 2: I think you can make it more and more.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Okay, we're gonna we're back with Adam Rippan, the litlt
- 52:00Speaker 3: and I have so many different ways I can say things.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Oh, excellent.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Well, our last call comes from Jess. She says, dear Chelsea,
- 52:08Speaker 1: from one dog lover to another, I need your help
- 52:10Speaker 1: before I spiral. I rescued a dog from the shelter
- 52:13Speaker 1: seven months ago. She's a little over a year old now,
- 52:16Speaker 1: and since the day I brought her home, I have
- 52:18Speaker 1: been her everything. I feed her, I walk her, I
- 52:21Speaker 1: give her peanut butter. I take her to the dog park.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I clean up her emotional and literal messes. Basically, I'm
- 52:28Speaker 1: her unpaid therapist, chef, chauffeur, and life coach. And yet
- 52:32Speaker 1: this bitch is obsessed with my husband. The man does nothing,
- 52:36Speaker 1: He didn't even want a dog. He barely acknowledges her existence.
- 52:39Speaker 1: And still she looks at him like he's the second
- 52:41Speaker 1: coming of Caesar Milan. She snuggles him, She follows him around,
- 52:45Speaker 1: She waits for him at the door, like he's deployed overseas.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I could be on fire and she'd be like, but
- 52:50Speaker 2: where's dad? Chelsea? Help?
- 52:52Speaker 1: How do I get this furry little trader to appreciate
- 52:54Speaker 1: the woman who saved her from doggy prison and spoon
- 52:57Speaker 1: feeds her high quality kibble every day.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Attached to a photo for reference.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Please note her delusional level of devotion centreats and therapy.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Send help, sincerely, Jess.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Hi, Jess, this is this is our special guest, Adam Rippon.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Hi.
- 53:13Speaker 7: I see you.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Nice to meet you too.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Have you thought about is killing your husband an option
- 53:19Speaker 3: or considering it? Yeah? Not not with a gun, not
- 53:23Speaker 3: in a violent way, like a.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Way and snuggling.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Oh, there's nothing you can do.
- 53:31Speaker 2: No, there's nothing you can do.
- 53:33Speaker 3: I mean, all you could try to do is let
- 53:35Speaker 3: him do all of the work that you're doing and
- 53:37Speaker 3: see if that flips a switch and the dog because
- 53:39Speaker 3: sometimes dogs like the person that plays harder to get you.
- 53:42Speaker 7: Know what I mean.
- 53:43Speaker 3: But there's nothing you could do about a dog's affection
- 53:46Speaker 3: my dogs. First of all, you're coming to the wrong
- 53:48Speaker 3: person for good dog advice. My dogs don't respect me.
- 53:51Speaker 3: None of them have ever respected me. They don't understand
- 53:55Speaker 3: how hard I work and how much I provide for them.
- 53:57Speaker 3: They love me, but they don't respect me. So like
- 54:00Speaker 3: you asking me how to get your dog to love
- 54:01Speaker 3: you more is like it's like talking to It's like
- 54:04Speaker 3: talking to Liza Minellie about not doing any pills.
- 54:06Speaker 2: You know what I mean. I don't know how to
- 54:08Speaker 2: help you.
- 54:09Speaker 3: But what I can say is you can try and
- 54:11Speaker 3: take the responsibilities, put them all on your husband and
- 54:13Speaker 3: see if that changes it and flip a switch.
- 54:16Speaker 7: You know what I mean?
- 54:17Speaker 3: Star Well, right, right, But but like there's something to
- 54:23Speaker 3: be said for you know, everyone says, oh, it's who
- 54:25Speaker 3: feeds them, who doesn't, who takes them for walks, who
- 54:27Speaker 3: does that like, maybe if he is doing all of
- 54:29Speaker 3: those things, if you're doing all of those things and
- 54:31Speaker 3: he already and your dog loves him so much, maybe
- 54:34Speaker 3: if he's doing all those things, the dog will start
- 54:36Speaker 3: being more attracted to you because he doesn't feel like
- 54:38Speaker 3: you're waiting on him.
- 54:39Speaker 2: And is it a he or she? She?
- 54:41Speaker 3: It's a she that she she won't feel like you're
- 54:44Speaker 3: waiting on him handed her, hand and foot.
- 54:46Speaker 2: There's a lot of genuine confusion on this show. I'm
- 54:49Speaker 2: so sorry.
- 54:50Speaker 7: That's okay.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I've considered maybe she's just a whore
- 54:54Speaker 3: and she just loves maybe. Yeah, I mean, yeah, they are.
- 55:00Speaker 3: I mean a girl dog with a man. I can
- 55:01Speaker 3: see where you're going with that. My dog is very
- 55:04Speaker 3: into females, loves females like he's very sexual. You know,
- 55:08Speaker 3: he wants to be around women all the time. He
- 55:10Speaker 3: knows exactly the faces to make. It's very manipulative. He
- 55:13Speaker 3: only wants to me when he needs something, you know
- 55:15Speaker 3: what I mean. He's not like coming over and going, hey,
- 55:17Speaker 3: you want to hug in the middle of the day.
- 55:19Speaker 2: It's like food related. Uh huh.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:22Speaker 2: He is a protector. Actually, Actually, Doug is.
- 55:24Speaker 3: The best dog I've had so in terms of like
- 55:26Speaker 3: a relationship.
- 55:27Speaker 2: But he doesn't.
- 55:28Speaker 3: When I say Doug, come, it's like I might as
- 55:30Speaker 3: well be talking to a hot air balloon.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Or Adam Rappon or Adam Rappon.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what, this actually might be a time
- 55:39Speaker 1: for a second dog.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Maybe it's just like you need to get a dog
- 55:42Speaker 2: for yourself.
- 55:43Speaker 7: You have a second dog.
- 55:44Speaker 5: Oh wait, what's the deal with the second dog?
- 55:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 55:48Speaker 5: I have two dogs too, Jessica, and I feel kind
- 55:51Speaker 5: of your pain.
- 55:52Speaker 7: I have Achwaa.
- 55:53Speaker 2: He is twelve years old and he was also rescued.
- 55:57Speaker 3: And it's funny because it was my husband dog first,
- 56:00Speaker 3: but now he is obsessed with.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Me, So you know what it is? Yeah, but well
- 56:07Speaker 2: but I can't believe you. I can't believe you how
- 56:10Speaker 2: greedy you have a dog that he rescued. First of all,
- 56:13Speaker 2: you don't have to say that chihuahua was rescued.
- 56:15Speaker 3: Nobody is going to a breeder to buy chihuahuas, so
- 56:18Speaker 3: you don't again, Okay, okay, we know it's a rescue,
- 56:21Speaker 3: but I mean, you already have a dog that is
- 56:25Speaker 3: obsessed with you. That's his dog, and now the same
- 56:27Speaker 3: thing happened to you and you're calling into a dear Chelsea.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You know, I always have two kids who are also
- 56:32Speaker 2: obsessed with me.
- 56:33Speaker 7: But I want all of them.
- 56:36Speaker 3: If people keep coming out of the woodwork during this
- 56:38Speaker 3: phone call alone, I mean, I think everything's good, everything's
- 56:42Speaker 3: fine with you, and just keep going and just hope
- 56:44Speaker 3: for the best and be grateful for the love that
- 56:46Speaker 3: you are. Go where the light is, Harriet fair enough,
- 56:49Speaker 3: And it's over there. It's it's next to a heat lamp,
- 56:51Speaker 3: next to the chihuahua.
- 56:52Speaker 5: Uh huh celebrating their thirteenth birthday.
- 56:56Speaker 7: Yeah, he saves with my hating times.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, all right, we'll take care. Thanks for calling in.
- 57:02Speaker 2: I thank you bye.
- 57:04Speaker 3: Talk about a problem, not problem, but it's like a
- 57:07Speaker 3: non problem problem.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 57:09Speaker 5: The hardest thing about I never had dogs until I
- 57:12Speaker 5: got the dogs that I have now. I have Tony
- 57:15Speaker 5: and Tracy. Tony's from Mexico, Tijuana and Tracy's from a
- 57:20Speaker 5: dumpster in Bakersfield.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Oh and we got Tracy when.
- 57:23Speaker 5: She was like one year old already, she didn't know
- 57:26Speaker 5: her name, she wasn't trained at all, like total street dog.
- 57:32Speaker 2: And Tony is like we had him since he was
- 57:34Speaker 2: like a puppy.
- 57:34Speaker 5: He's like great, And Tracy, I've really had to learn that,
- 57:38Speaker 5: like dogs just don't think the same way that we do,
- 57:42Speaker 5: and like sometimes like you just need to think of
- 57:44Speaker 5: Like I think in this situation, it's like the dog
- 57:46Speaker 5: is just associating like relaxing with the husband, because the
- 57:50Speaker 5: husband's always relaxing when they're together, and when like the
- 57:54Speaker 5: dog is with Jessica, I think the dog is just like,
- 57:57Speaker 5: oh wet, this is what I who I eat with,
- 58:00Speaker 5: but this is who I relax with. Like dogs compartmentalize
- 58:03Speaker 5: like different things like that.
- 58:05Speaker 2: And Tracy, she's also a huge bitch my dog. I mean,
- 58:09Speaker 2: do we really know what dogs are thinking? And do
- 58:11Speaker 2: we really care? I don't.
- 58:13Speaker 3: Sometimes I care too much, I think, But it's like
- 58:15Speaker 3: what could they possibly be thinking?
- 58:18Speaker 2: Not much, I'll tell you that what are they thinking?
- 58:20Speaker 3: They forget people when they're gone, and they remember you
- 58:23Speaker 3: when you come back, so there can't be a big
- 58:25Speaker 3: margin of thinking, you know what I mean. They're like,
- 58:27Speaker 3: votes you again, I'm excited.
- 58:28Speaker 2: To see you, and then three minutes later they're over it.
- 58:31Speaker 2: So it's like if nothing matters real, it doesn't know
- 58:34Speaker 2: it nothing does matter.
- 58:35Speaker 3: All right, Adam Rappan, I can't believe we finally got
- 58:38Speaker 3: the pronunciation of your name right. You wouldn't think it
- 58:40Speaker 3: would be that confounding. It's r ippo, n.
- 58:43Speaker 5: I know, but in our English of today, we don't
- 58:47Speaker 5: go hard on with that.
- 58:50Speaker 2: That are we go in Yeah, that's true and any
- 58:55Speaker 2: other thing. Thank you for the.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Donuts, the gluten free donuts specifically, even though I'm not gluten.
- 58:59Speaker 2: For I really enjoyed it, but you went to it
- 59:02Speaker 2: immediately because I wanted to be higher.
- 59:04Speaker 3: I was like, that's better than a real donut, you
- 59:05Speaker 3: know what I mean, I better take the gluten free one.
- 59:09Speaker 2: You can listen to Adam's podcast.
- 59:11Speaker 3: It's called The run Through, and he gave us a
- 59:13Speaker 3: real nice slice of that's in today's episode. I am
- 59:16Speaker 3: definitely going to be listening to it. And thank you
- 59:18Speaker 3: for coming. I'm my friends were very excited that I
- 59:21Speaker 3: was having you on my podcast, and now I understand why.
- 59:23Speaker 2: And I'm so glad I'm more familiar with you.
- 59:25Speaker 5: I'm so glad to be You're so cute familiar with you.
- 59:28Speaker 5: You're also so cute. I'll also say that thank you.
- 59:32Speaker 5: I also have another podcast. Called intrusive thoughts of course,
- 59:35Speaker 5: if you don't want to listen to anything that's not
- 59:37Speaker 5: solely figure skating related. Because I don't talk about getting
- 59:40Speaker 5: your head smashed in at Spago all the time.
- 59:43Speaker 2: You know, it's.
- 59:43Speaker 3: How can although that could be a recurring theme for
- 59:46Speaker 3: a podcast, it's judging by what's going on at Spago.
- 59:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so in truth of thoughts you talk more about
- 59:52Speaker 2: like there is kind of like everything. Yeah thoughts.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I did enjoy your sun flowers have too many muscles,
- 59:59Speaker 1: and that's I don't like that.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Don't they look strong? Totally?
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: I just I did a feel to win. Dancing with
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: the Stars.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Felt good, Chelsea, real good, real fucking good.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: How did you celebrate something like that?
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: Well, it was like a whirlwind because it was like
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: right after the Olympics. So I celebrated at first by
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: losing like ten pounds, which I didn't even know I
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: could like lose still after like the Olympics, and so
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: it was at an all time low weight wise, all
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: time high win wise.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: But that seems like a win win. It was a win.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I mean, as a gay man, aren't you just excited
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: to be losing weight?
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: I think as a gay man.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: You're always excited to be focused on your weight whatever
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: it is, high, low, dangerous.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but what did you do to celebrate? You didn't
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: answer that question. I don't think I did an anything.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: No, really, you win Dancing with the Stars and you
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: don't go out and like have a night or I.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Mean maybe I did that. I don't have a cupcake,
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: a donut. I think I a sidecar, don't gluten free. Maybe,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I mean, if that's what it has to come down,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I think so. I mean it was like I was
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: so tired at that point, like it was.
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: It was right after the Olympics too, and so I
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: think I just took a good old nat and I
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: was literally like inch thick of like spray tan too.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: Oh it's amazing. I go to sleep, you wake up,
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: you look down shroud of Turin. It's like just it
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: was a biblical experience of being bat tan.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I would have really looked like Steve Harvey. Wow, what
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: sounds like you really have a thing for Steve Harvey today.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: I do because I'm looking and I'm like, I should
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: host family feud.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: When I see myself, maybe will.
