- 0:00Speaker 2: My name is Trevor Matthews, founder of RefrigerationMentor.com. Over the past decade, I've trained tens of thousands of refrigeration technicians and contractors on supermarket refrigeration, and I've seen the same problem across the industry. Technicians are under pressure, second-guessing, and getting stuck on jobs too long.
- 0:03We gotta think logically about it, and this is the basic component. Is there an oil pump? Is there not an oil pump? Is it internal resistor sensors, or is it like a internal line break, like kind of like a Klicksan to trip it off if it overheats or gets too high of amperage? There's different things that we need to think about of these basic components.
- 0:06And so all-- the whole purpose of this metering device is to maintain superheat for that evaporator, so we don't get any liquid back to that compressor. So this is what this metering device is doing, and we set it up according to the ma- manufacturer case or coil or plate heat exchanger. So it really doesn't matter what it is that it's the, the evaporator that it's on.

- 0:12Why do we have that? 'Cause we think, "Okay, well, it's at the top of the roof. We get non-condensables. This goes to the top. How do we check for non-condensables?" Once again, this is a b-basic check. , Putting your gauges on, putting your temperature probe on, on the, on the drop leg or on the condensing, shutting the unit down, running the fans, checking your PT chart to match up to that refrigerant.
