Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Amous Kerr, you might recall the name. He's our high jumper,
- 0:03Speaker 1: one gold at the Calm Games so far, hasn't won
- 0:05Speaker 1: anything at the Olympics, hasn't got an Olympic medal. But
- 0:09Speaker 1: boy is he looking good for Paris. He's apparently in
- 0:12Speaker 1: great shape, great form. The opening ceremony kicks off this
- 0:15Speaker 1: Saturday morning, by the way, very excited. Yeah, apparently he's
- 0:19Speaker 1: peaking right at the just at the right time. He's
- 0:22Speaker 1: taken up the men's high jump title at the London
- 0:25Speaker 1: Diamond League Athletics meet. He cleared two point three meters there.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Imagine that, clearing two point three meters in the high jump.
- 0:32Speaker 1: He also won in Monaco earlier this month, where he
- 0:35Speaker 1: cleared two point three to three and that equaled his
- 0:38Speaker 1: personal best in an outdoor event. So the men's high
- 0:41Speaker 1: jump for those who are interested, is on August the seventh,
- 0:44Speaker 1: which local time, which means it'll be the eighth for us.
- 0:47Speaker 1: The opening ceremony is this Saturday morning. The time is
- 0:51Speaker 1: five thirty am, so set your alarms, get up a
- 0:53Speaker 1: little bit early. Apparently the ceremony will peak at seven
- 0:56Speaker 1: thirty in the morning because that'll be the sunset and Paris. Anyway,
- 1:01Speaker 1: I just love this. It's our biggest ever athletics team
- 1:04Speaker 1: heading to Paris this year, apparently heading to the Olympics.
- 1:07Speaker 1: And there's nothing quite like sitting down on the couch
- 1:10Speaker 1: for hours on end with some Bicki's and a cup
- 1:13Speaker 1: of tea, watching these incredibly disciplined, unbelievably skilled and fit
- 1:18Speaker 1: athletes perform for the world. It's almost like because you're
- 1:22Speaker 1: watching them do such athletic things that you don't feel
- 1:27Speaker 1: lazy for essentially just sitting and watching television for hours
- 1:31Speaker 1: on end. It is incredible. It is great to watch,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and there's something emotional about the games too. There's always
- 1:37Speaker 1: tears and joy and exhaustion. It's humans who are dedicating
- 1:41Speaker 1: themselves to something for years, for their life sometimes and
- 1:45Speaker 1: knowing all of that comes down to just a few
- 1:48Speaker 1: seconds in a race or a game or an event.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It's perseverance and dedication on full display. And I just
- 1:55Speaker 1: love it. So Hamish Kurr to the record seventeen athletes
- 2:00Speaker 1: that we are sending from the athletics team and the
- 2:02Speaker 1: entire team of one hundred and ninety five kiwis who
- 2:06Speaker 1: will be wearing the fern in Paris, good luck. We'll
- 2:09Speaker 1: all be watching for more from News Talks at b
- 2:13Speaker 1: Listen live on air or online, and keep our shows
