- 0:26Speaker 1: Saints were victimized by another almost.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Unconscionable call.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I know everybody by now has seen it if you
- 0:39Speaker 1: weren't watching the game live. Incredible play by Chase Young.
- 0:44Speaker 1: He sacks Jared Goff, strips the football. Heads-up play by
- 0:50Speaker 1: Carl Granderson as the ball is careening toward the goal line.
- 0:54Speaker 1: to take out the Lions player trying to recover it
- 0:58Speaker 1: so Jonas Sankert could come scoop and score. Should have
- 1:01Speaker 1: tied the game right about the midway point of the
- 1:05Speaker 1: second quarter. Should have tied the game at seven. But instead,
- 1:08Speaker 1: they go to review and rule that that Jared Goff,
- 1:14Speaker 1: that was an incomplete forward pass because Goff had started
- 1:17Speaker 1: his throwing motion forward, and even though the ball went
- 1:20Speaker 1: backwards and he threw the ball backwards, he intended to
- 1:22Speaker 1: throw it forward. As a matter of fact, this is
- 1:24Speaker 1: what Mike Pereira said on the Fox broadcast explaining the call.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Los Angeles, Mike, what did you see?
- 1:32Speaker 3: He had started his throwing motion. Now, throwing motion is
- 1:36Speaker 3: bringing the ball up. Forget about the hand at this
- 1:39Speaker 3: point going forward. Throwing motion starts hand going up, then
- 1:42Speaker 3: is hit. Ball comes loose. His intent was to throw
- 1:46Speaker 3: it forward. And since that motion had already started, that's
- 1:50Speaker 3: going to be a forward pass no matter where it lands.
- 1:53Speaker 2: His intent was to throw the ball forward.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Hmm. Hat tip to former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with
- 2:07Speaker 1: the best tweet that I saw. At NFL, per this ruling,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I'd like the league to review all 169 of my interceptions.
- 2:17Speaker 1: My intent was clearly to throw to my receiver.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Please advise.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Um... I know there's a lot of people that are
- 2:32Speaker 1: pissed off, and you should be, by the way. After
- 2:37Speaker 1: the game, Kellen Moore was asked about the strip sack
- 2:39Speaker 1: touchdown that wasn't. Here's what he said.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Yeah, a little bit of a challenging circumstance, but I
- 2:45Speaker 4: understand what the rules view it as. Once the arm
- 2:49Speaker 4: is moving, it really doesn't matter where the ball is going.
- 2:51Speaker 4: There's a protection there, and so unfortunate outcome for us.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Good for him for being measured.
- 3:00Speaker 1: In the post-game press conference, but honestly, that's one where
- 3:04Speaker 1: I would like Kellen Moore to lose his mind. Because
- 3:09Speaker 1: I don't care what the written rule says. Common sense
- 3:18Speaker 1: has got to apply. Moreover, let me finish that point
- 3:23Speaker 1: real quick. Common sense has to apply. We live in
- 3:28Speaker 1: a world where where we have been told you can't
- 3:33Speaker 1: legislate intent. Why in football do we not have, like,
- 3:40Speaker 1: targeting one or targeting two? Flagrant and common foul like.
- 3:46Speaker 2: You see in the NBA.
- 3:47Speaker 1: What they tell us in football is you can't legislate intent. Well,
- 3:52Speaker 1: in that situation, you're telling me his intent was to
- 3:55Speaker 1: throw the ball forward. But the ball went 20 yards backwards.
- 4:00Speaker 1: and you took a scoring play away from the defense.
- 4:03Speaker 1: And there's a lot of different layers of this, something
- 4:05Speaker 1: we don't even consider result of the game notwithstanding. Think
- 4:09Speaker 1: about Chase Young, who probably has, I'm not looking at
- 4:11Speaker 1: his contract, he probably has sack incentives, I would assume. Well,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you just took a sack away or a forced fumble
- 4:18Speaker 1: away from, and it went a sack because it's ruled
- 4:21Speaker 1: an incomplete pass. You took a sack and a forced
- 4:23Speaker 1: fumble away from Chase Young. Everyone, everyone who is watching
- 4:31Speaker 1: that game or has seen the play now on social media,
- 4:34Speaker 1: everyone looks at that and sees the exact same thing.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I watched a play where a quarterback got hit, the
- 4:41Speaker 1: ball went backwards 20 yards, the defense scored, and you're
- 4:44Speaker 1: telling me that's an incomplete pass. Logically, it makes no sense. Now,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I know there's people who say the fix is in,
- 4:53Speaker 1: the league hates the NFL, they always try to screw
- 4:56Speaker 1: the Saints.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I don't believe any of that. I don't believe in
- 5:00Speaker 2: conspiracy theories.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I don't think, like, Roger Goodell's radioing.
- 5:04Speaker 2: To the official on the field saying, no, we're going
- 5:07Speaker 2: to make sure we screw the Saints here. That's an
- 5:09Speaker 2: incomplete forward pass.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Like, you had Pereira come on. Everyone's seen the written rule.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You know the application of, like, you know what the
- 5:17Speaker 1: rule is. And so the rule, and Kellen Moore said it, like,
- 5:21Speaker 1: it was the, apparently the appropriate, um, enforcement of the
- 5:27Speaker 1: rule as it is written. What I'm here to tell
- 5:29Speaker 1: you is that is stupid. That is stupid. There is
- 5:34Speaker 1: no one who logically has ever watched a football game,
- 5:37Speaker 1: could look at that play and say, that's an incomplete
- 5:40Speaker 1: forward pass. You bailed Jared Goff out, you cheated Chase Young,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and you screwed the Saints out of a touchdown. A
- 5:47Speaker 1: scoring play in what ended up being an overtime game. Now,
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'm not going to say, like some of you have today,
- 5:54Speaker 1: That cost the Saints the game, because I don't believe
- 5:56Speaker 1: that's the case. Over the course of a 60-minute football game,
- 5:59Speaker 1: in this case almost a 70-minute football game, there are
- 6:01Speaker 1: plenty of plays that contributed to the outcome. Hey, Tyler Shuck,
- 6:06Speaker 1: don't throw two interceptions. Tyler Shuck, don't fumble and give
- 6:10Speaker 1: him a short field. Chris Alave, catch the deep ball
- 6:14Speaker 1: in the second quarter that would have been a contested catch,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but that hit you in the hands.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You make 31 million bucks. Catch the ball.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Hey, Quincy Riley, don't get dusted by Amon Ross St.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Brown and give up a touchdown on a coverage bust.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yet a 62-yard fugal attempt. Not high percentage, I get it.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But a chance to win the game. There's so many
- 6:32Speaker 1: plays throughout the course of a game that contribute to
- 6:34Speaker 1: an outcome. It never comes down to just one play.
- 6:37Speaker 1: There's so many things you could have done to change
- 6:38Speaker 1: the outcome. So I'm not saying they lost the game
- 6:40Speaker 1: because of this play. There's also the butterfly effect. You
- 6:43Speaker 1: can't assume that all else is equal. The game went
- 6:46Speaker 1: to overtime, tied at 24. Well, you say, well, it
- 6:49Speaker 1: was tied at 24. The Saints scored this touchdown. They
- 6:50Speaker 1: would have won in regulation. Maybe, but 7-7 with nine
- 6:54Speaker 1: minutes to go in the second quarter, the sequence probably.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Isn't the same.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Who knows how it goes in that point? But the
- 6:58Speaker 1: bottom line is, this should have been a scoring play
- 7:00Speaker 1: for the New Orleans Saints. And the fact that the rule,
- 7:03Speaker 1: when applied the way it was, took a scoring play
- 7:05Speaker 1: off the board, is hot garbage. And I can absolutely understand...
- 7:13Speaker 1: the frustration of the Saints organization and Saints fans who
- 7:17Speaker 1: do feel like you're consistently on the wrong end of
- 7:21Speaker 1: crap calls like this. What I can tell you is
- 7:23Speaker 1: I tweeted that video And I said, there's no reality
- 7:27Speaker 1: where this is anything but a defensive score. NFL officiating,
- 7:30Speaker 1: your rules are broken. If you try to convince me
- 7:32Speaker 1: this was an incomplete forward pass. That tweet that I
- 7:34Speaker 1: put out yesterday has been seen 1.3 million times. There
- 7:39Speaker 1: are 195 comments on it. And so many of those
- 7:42Speaker 1: are from fans of other NFL teams. And I'm telling you,
- 7:46Speaker 1: reading through the comments, there's a lot of fans. There
- 7:48Speaker 1: was even Lions fans in those comments saying, tell you,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I think we got one there, but it's nice to
- 7:52Speaker 1: see the Lions not get screwed for once. Every fan
- 7:55Speaker 1: base thinks they get screwed. Every fan base thinks the
- 7:58Speaker 1: NFL is out to get them. They're on the bad
- 7:59Speaker 1: end of every call. Every fan base thinks it. Now,
- 8:01Speaker 1: I understand the Saints have had high profile bad calls.
- 8:04Speaker 1: The Nolan no call being chief among them is the
- 8:06Speaker 1: worst ever. In that same game, though, Cam Jordan grabbed
- 8:10Speaker 1: a face mask at a goal line and should have
- 8:11Speaker 1: given the Rams a first-goal situation. They would have scored
- 8:14Speaker 1: a touchdown and won the game in regulation. Nobody ever
- 8:16Speaker 1: talks about that. But again, that's the point of it
- 8:17Speaker 1: being a 60-minute football game and there being a lot
- 8:20Speaker 1: of different plays that contribute to the outcome. So I'm
- 8:22Speaker 1: not going to boil it down to one play. What
- 8:24Speaker 1: I am going to say is this is exactly why
- 8:27Speaker 1: you can't... Like, if you're going to legislate intent... then
- 8:31Speaker 1: you have to be able to appropriately legislate that to
- 8:34Speaker 1: other calls in the game as well, like personal fouls
- 8:37Speaker 1: or targeting or what is the intent. But when you
- 8:40Speaker 1: start to get in pain in areas of gray is
- 8:42Speaker 1: when you get into trouble, which is why you have
- 8:44Speaker 1: to look at that and say, I don't give a
- 8:46Speaker 1: damn what his intent was. We all watched the play.
- 8:49Speaker 1: The ball went backwards 20 yards. That is a great
- 8:53Speaker 1: defensive play that you wiped away because of a poorly
- 8:57Speaker 1: worded rule, regardless of the interpretation or the application of it.
- 9:01Speaker 1: The Saints got screwed out of a touchdown. It should
- 9:03Speaker 1: have been a defensive score. Chase Young got screwed out
- 9:06Speaker 1: of a sack. Jonas Sanker got screwed out of a touchdown.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And it's brutal.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And everybody associated with the NFL should be embarrassed by
- 9:13Speaker 1: what happened in Detroit yesterday on that because nobody should
- 9:15Speaker 1: look at that play.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Nobody.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No matter if you work for the NFL, if you're
- 9:19Speaker 1: an official, if you're an Alliance fan, if you're anybody.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Nobody should look at that play and say, yep, that's
- 9:24Speaker 1: the right call. You should look at that play and say,
- 9:27Speaker 1: that's ridiculous. And if that is actually in the rule book,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you've got to fix it. Because if it was the
- 9:32Speaker 1: Saints today, it could be your team tomorrow. Because you'll
- 9:35Speaker 1: be victimized by something that stupid. How in the world
- 9:39Speaker 1: am I living in a world where a defensive lineman
- 9:44Speaker 1: beats a tackle and obliterates the quarterback, the ball goes
- 9:48Speaker 1: backwards 20 yards, a defensive player scoops and scores, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: you tell me it's an incomplete pass when the ball
- 9:53Speaker 1: went backwards 20 yards. Ultimately, that has to be the
- 9:57Speaker 1: standard that we can all appropriately acknowledge. The ball went backwards.
- 10:03Speaker 1: It is either a fumble or it is a lateral.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It went backwards. We all know this. You throw the
- 10:08Speaker 1: ball backwards, it's a fumble. And the fact that there's
- 10:12Speaker 1: a protection in the rule book that negates that is absurd.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And they got to fix it. They should have fixed
- 10:17Speaker 2: it by now already.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I don't know if it's got to wait till after
- 10:19Speaker 1: the season with the competition committee or whatever it'll be.
- 10:22Speaker 1: But just like they amended the rule after the NOLA
- 10:25Speaker 1: no call. And then, of course, officials didn't want to
- 10:28Speaker 1: be held accountable. So they never actually overturned pass interference.
- 10:31Speaker 1: So they wiped that rule away, which is stupid in
- 10:33Speaker 1: and of itself. Same thing should be true here. At
- 10:36Speaker 1: some point, common sense has got to reign. And it
- 10:39Speaker 1: sucks that it cost the Saints on Sunday. I don't
- 10:41Speaker 1: know that it cost them the game like some of
- 10:43Speaker 1: you might think. And I don't think there's a conspiracy.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I don't think the fix is in or anything like that.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I think it's just a crappy rule, a crappy interpretation
- 10:51Speaker 1: of a rule that's poorly worded, and it cost New Orleans.
- 10:55Speaker 1: How many more teams will it have to cost for
- 10:56Speaker 1: you to fix its stupid rule?
- 10:57Speaker 2: It's annoying. Freaking NFL.
- 11:03Speaker 1: The fact that we sit here in 2026 and it's
- 11:05Speaker 1: so commonly phrased, it's 2026. I don't even know what
- 11:08Speaker 1: a catch is. Like, that's the problem. You can try
- 11:13Speaker 1: to standardize things with your verbiage, but when you do
- 11:16Speaker 1: that and you get so down to the nitty gritty,
- 11:19Speaker 1: you end up putting verbiage in there like, if the
- 11:25Speaker 1: forward motion has begun, the intent, it doesn't matter. Like,
- 11:28Speaker 1: now you're sitting there legislating intent. When the most obvious
- 11:32Speaker 1: thing is the ball went backwards, it's a fumble or
- 11:35Speaker 1: a lateral.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Either way. Either way, Lions lose the football. Fix it, please.
